>> WE BEGIN AT 4 AS THE BUFFALO OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JUST CONFIRMED WITHIN THE HOUR. A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN DOWNTOWN BUFFALO THIS AFTERNOON. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT DID SOME DAMAGE MOSTLY THROUGH THE CITY'S LOWER WEST SIDE. SOME PRETTY SHOCKING VIDEO YOU SAW JUST BEFORE OF A ROOF BEING TWISTED OFF A BUILDING. ANOTHER VIDEO SHOWS WHAT APPEARS TO BE A FUNNEL CLOUD NEAR FOUNTAIN PLAZA CITY AND COUNTY LEADERS SAY MOST OF THE DAMAGE IS AROUND NIAGARA STREET AND CAROLINA. AND YOU ARE ASKED TO AVOID THAT AREA SO FAR. 35 PEOPLE LIVING AT THE DELICATE NURSING CENTER ON CAROLINA STREET WILL HAVE TO BE MOVED TO ANOTHER BUILDING. THAT'S ABOUT A QUARTER OF THE PEOPLE LIVING THERE. WE WILL HAVE TEAM COVERAGE ON THIS EXTREME WEATHER ALL EVENING LAW. THEY'RE ALL HERE. STILL A HIVE OF ACTIVITY. PEOPLE STILL OUT AND ABOUT. I WANT TO SHOW YOU AS WE WALK ALONG HERE, A NIAGARA CAROLINA STREET AS WE PAN UP, YOU CAN SEE THAT SEVERE WEATHER TEARING OFF PART OF THIS BREAK BUILDING, BRINGING THOSE BRICKS TUMBLING TO THE GROUND. IT'S REALLY JUST A SIGHT TO SEE SOMETHING. MANY PEOPLE SAY THEY WOULD NEVER EXPECT TO SEE IN THE LOWER WEST SIDE, GREATER BUFFALO, DOWNTOWN BUFFALO AREA. NOW TAKE A LOOK AT THIS VIDEO. THIS IS WHAT HARD-HIT PROSPECT AVENUE OF CAROLINA STREET NEAR NIAGARA LOOKED LIKE JUST BEFORE. 1 O'CLOCK THIS AFTERNOON, ROOFING TORN FROM BUILDINGS, UTILITY POLE SNAPPED AND TOSSED ACROSS YARDS AND OF COURSE, EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE ARE SEEING BLOCKING OFF STREETS. SEVERAL VEHICLES TAKING DAMAGE FROM THOSE DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES. SUSAN BRAUN LIVES ON PROSPECT IN WAS IN HER BACKYARD WHEN SHE FIRST FELT A STILLNESS COME OVER HER IN THE AIR. COURSE BY THE TIME WE GOT DOWN THERE, IT WAS OVER. AND WHEN WE CAME OUTSIDE, WE WERE >> AND CAR ALARMS WERE ALL GOING OFF DURING THE INITIAL CHAOS AS DEBRIS FLEW THROUGH THE AIR. COMING BACK OUT LIVE HERE TO CAROLINA, NIAGARA STREET. A LOT OF ACTIVITY. YOU CAN SEE A CAVALCADE OF UTILITY CREWS PULLING UP. YOU'RE TAKING A LIVE LOOK DOWN CAROLINA'S 3 WHERE UTILITY CREWS ARE WORKING TO RECONNECT SOME OF THOSE DOWNED POWER LINES. AND OF COURSE, STILL REMAINS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. IF YOU COME ACROSS A DOWNED POWER LINE, DO NOT GO NEAR IT. STAY AWAY. A LOT OF PEOPLE STILL LOOKING ON AT THE DAMAGE OUT HERE TODAY.
