good evening Myrtle Beach this is Jay Gray with GNN that's the gray News Network today's top story of course is the flooding that we're seeing here along the Grand Strand including the in coastal Waterway the wal and other areas from Conway to Longs even down through Paulie's Island we're going to keep live updates on this throughout the day as for right now we're going to go to our live meteorologist Jay Gray who's in the studio now to see what he's got to say about this flooding Jay that's a nice suit what's going on Jay thanks for that Jay I appreciate it some might say that I dress better than I tell the weather and that would make sense because I am not a meteorologist nor did I go to meteorological school or the place that you go to learn how to say that word however I will talk about some of the things that we're seeing here in the weather and observations um that we have particularly in our area here in saky and along the Grand Strand right now there's a little bit of moisture out uh Past Lake City not super uh concerning at the moment the people of uh the Little River Longs Myrtle Beach and Conway areas have quite a bit more uh things to be concerned about right now obviously if you're familiar with our area you know all of our estuaries we've got the icw the wal the PD the great PD and the little PD and all those uh waterways that end up draining out into wiy Bay are just full from the inundation of the tropical storm weather and moisture that we received in North Carolina received just a few days ago all of that's now coming down um the water making its way out to the ocean so uh where where we're located here in saky actually let me see if I can zoom right in here all right maybe not too far here but so we're in the saky area here and if you're familiar with the swing Bridge there is a gauge on the swing bridge where they're measuring the tide and when it is intended to Crest according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that I spoke with earlier uh the waterway in Sak has crested or is expected to Crest today at about 16.75 ft and then begin to recede however the lunar cycle um being that we're going to have a full moon on Monday coupled with the fact that you know water here moves very slowly we're probably not going to see any relief from the water levels until the 26th or 27th of this month so just keep an eye out be safe and I know Jay's got some safety tips for those of you out there uh who want to go out and check the weather out just be careful and uh have a great day back to you Jay thank you for that Jay that's really great information and good to know um so what we want to talk about now is some of the issues that the flooding is bringing into the community that typically we don't uh realize of course we think about um the flood the damage uh you know ruined landscape ruined personal property your homes Vehicles things like that uh one of the things that we don't think about is the fact that there is a responsibility of Voters on the icw to um watch their wake and honestly if you can stay off the icw there's no need to be on it uh right now the icw should be unencumbered uh for any emergency issues that might arise there's no need to be out right now um but before we go any further into that let's talk to our live correspondent Jay Gray who is live in Forest gr Jay that's right Jay we're reporting live from forestbrook here where we had to resort to reporting from a resident's back porch which they're also using for their Poultry Farm apparently uh but what we can see here is the inter Coastal Waterway behind me we are looking East uh the Waterway is is actually receding just a little bit which might just be a temporary break for the residents here as we're supposed to have a high tide at 12:00 this evening and tomorrow uh we're supposed to have a full moon um if you just noticed a little bit ago there was a a boat that had gone by we're asking the boats that are driving by to be a little bit slow a little cautious and um hearing a little bit of thunder and I know that the National Weather Service just issued a thunderstorm warning so hopefully that's not too much of an effect on the residents here but we'll uh send it back to you in The Newsroom J thank you for that wonderful and insightful reporting Jay in addition to what's going on with the weather of course we'd like to inform our audience and our viewers of a couple of safety tips in addition to the typical things turn around don't drown uh some other things that you might not think about such as um making sure that you're watching out for bugs if you're having knee high or thigh high boots on those bugs will find a way from the water into your boot uh snakes and trees and if you're a fan of Toy Story snakes in my boots as well be careful of those those gators and for those of you who are fans who Stand By Me and can recall our good friend Gordy lechance leeches are also Out There Our correspondent Jay has found that out um but that's it for today folks we really appreciate you turning into GNN where we're not really news not really sure what we are uh but we're here to provide you with information provide you with value and be a resource for the community so thank you so much and here's another word from our sponsor who has not paid a die
