Brenden Rice Making Plays At Training Camp!

Chargers Training Camp News and Highlights the Chargers were not in pads yesterday but there were still a ton of clips from practice and a guy who flashed is Brendan rice and we have video evidence of this so this is going to be very exciting to go over but first we got to talk a little bit about special teams like I said we got a lot of Clips to go over so I'm just going to be really fast here because no one really cares too Cameron Dicker and Special Teams much about the Special Teams but we have not talked about Cameron Dicker yet he has been balling in training camp so far he was 11 for 11 on Saturday on his kicks 9 for9 on Tuesday he has not missed a single kick so far and he was great last year as well so it's awesome to see that our kicking issues hopefully entirely behind us for now because I mean that that was a terrible era of Chargers football and I mentioned Brendan rice was balling out yesterday another guy who was balling out but we AJ Finley and Safety Battle don't have the clips of is AJ Finley the safety he had a great day picked off Justin Herbert and then also broke up a pass against that second team offense where e stick was the quarterback AJ Finley man he has been building up momentum since last year and with alohi Gilman out of practice not he's not injured it's just he had a uh daughter that was just born but he's AJ finle he's been getting even more looks now with that first team offense because alohi Gilman is not taking up those snaps so he's going to be battling with JT Woods for those looks as the third safety when alohi Gilman and Derwin James and then you have another another safety out there it's going to be either him or JT Woods right now that's what it's looking like so far and I think AJ Finley he's got a good shot to be that third safety because JT Woods we haven't really seen him do much in Camp so far you know we haven't seen any good plays from him yet we've seen a lot of good stuff from AJ Finley though also a guy like Thomas Harper we've seen some good stuff and even yesterday he had a very good play against Quinton Johnston as you can see this picture breaking up a deep ball pass but just Mentor this is what he had to say about AJ Finley AJ's a guy that that guys have confidence in you know he's made some plays in practice he communicates really well all Xavier Worthy right this first CLP that I want to show you is not the charges obviously this is the Chiefs look at Xavier worthy right here this is their first round pick wide receiver this year working against press boom getting smacked and thrown all around by this Chief's defense when he is in pads so I just want to show you guys that's their first round wide receiver okay we got Quinn Johnson this Quentin Johnston Sideline Catch is who they got now this is the first clip that we got from Chargers country on Twitter the legend giving us all of these clips it's kind of midre as you can see this is Quinton Johnson going up against Matt henkins the DB you can see he does a nice adjustment to make that catch on the sideline let's go back and look at the tippy toes okay did he actually make this catch because he does a good job you can see pushing off a little bit it's not interference or anything like that he's just creating space and then nice body adjustment uses his hands to catch the ball everything is good left foot was in but that right foot was up once that ball came in contact with his hands as you can see right there boom right foot is up so now we need that right foot down and it looks like he steps online yeah to me this is not a catch I like the adjustment to the ball though and I like you know everything up until that point I couldn't see the route get off but right there everything right there boom I liked just needs to get that tow Quentin Johnston vs Cam Hart drag another one from Chargers country this is Quinton Johnson right here going up against cam Hart he's got press coverage right there but he does a nice job boom right there on that cut separating against cam Hart who is a big physical Corner that can do well against press Quinn Johnson one of the things that we saw last year wasn't very good against press coverage and it looks like you know you can't really see the hand fighting very well looks like he missed that swipe on cam Hart's uh hands initially but does a nice job of working through it obviously it's tough one-on-one drills for the DB but still uh Quinn Johnson right here planting getting low boom right there that outside foot that's exactly what you want he's working on the route running I can tell because I saw every single freaking snap last year and then those hands and then you tuck into the elbow and get in that running position a lot of people were telling me yesterday like hey you can body catch that's what you're supposed to do not really you don't want a body catch into your chest like that with your forearms on the ball if your body body catching you want to have the ball boom get it into the elbow that's why Keenan Allen was so good at that he didn't haul it into his chest with his forearms he brought it into his elbow in a running position we actually got another angle of this from the Chargers Instagram so I can see exactly how he did this get off no wasted steps that's good get off that back foot and you launch looks like he's trying to get those hands okay yeah so he does you see this hand right here his right hand he's trying to swipe away this left arm of Cam just misses it barely and then he kind of hits that other arm of camart so now he needs to yep get that elbow push it away and try to get away from him creates some separation even though he did mess up initially I I like what I see right here on this play this is Brenden Rice vs Zamari Walton pretty good now this is our first clip of Brendan rice you can see him right here against zamari Walton in one-on On's the undrafted free agent from Old Miss he's a big physical corner and so he is able to get some good Separation on that route one-on ones like I said they're tough for DBS but let's look it and break this down see if we can you can't really see the hand movements or anything zamari is kind of giving him a little bit of space and then he's jamming him right here brenon rice does a nice job of running through that contact swiping that arm away get low chop the feet like to see that puts zamari Walton in a little bit of a trans right there you can see wh which way is he going Brenan Rice doing a nice job running that route using his hands to catch that ball you see the how that ball was thrown to him like if if this is Quinton Johnson right here on that route I might be seeing a little something like this you know get those hands out I like seeing that from Brennan rice the seventh round pick and then you plant that foot and you go the other way baby and now we got this play Brenden Rice DEEP PASS from Brendan rice this was probably the play of the day yesterday deep pass along the sideline catches that ball in stride with the DB all over him and keeps the feet in bounds that's something we saw Johnson didn't do in that other clip earlier and I see like I mean you can see this is a gold jersey right here obviously so you think it's Justin Herbert no this is the second team offense that's actually Easton stick wearing that gold jersey I know they're both wearing the gold jersey now it's a little bit crazy maybe we have a QB competition but uh so basically what's going on here is it's a deep pass Pretty well-placed Ball by East stick honestly can't really see the route by Brennan rice but check out the extension Boom full extension right there using every bit of his length to get his hands on that ball soft fingertips bring that in nicely also mids tried in the air with that DB all over him this is a very very tough catch he's getting all the way out there getting both feet and Bounds you can see how he immediately tucks it into that Runner position with that elbow and then maintains possession throughout the ground perfectly I mean that's look he's got full possession of that so you can see Brennan rice right right here going up against off coverage just going to do a fake slant double move go straight towards the sideline and now we see boom right there catches that ball really nice play from Brennan rice that's exactly the kind of catch that Quinton Johnson struggles with Sant Samuel Jr even dabbing him up right there listen bro Brendan rice he could not only make this roster but he could do some serious things this year I said as soon as he was drafted that this was probably the steal of the draft so I AJ Finley vs Zach Heins said that there was no clips of AJ Finley but this is actually the interception against Zack Hines on that corner route did a pretty good job right there of getting up and getting that hand on the ball again this is Justin Herbert throwing it let's see if it's kind of underthrown at all ah I mean not really just does a nice job of getting that arm up there now this clip is from Jason Delgado on Twitter this is going Daiyan Henley to be a pass breakup over the middle Deon Henley working again Simi foko that is that's who the wide receiver is targeted right there but but Deion Henley man we saw in yesterday's video against will dley he tried to get that arm in there just couldn't get it because Justin Herbert's ball placement was so good but today boom right there getting that hand on the ball not able to reel it in for the interception like AJ Finley was in that last clip but pretty good play by Deion Henley the linebacker hopefully second year he's going to break out a lot of people are expecting big things from him also look at this Jared Patterson still getting Josh Palmer Catch work in with that first team man now this one's from from Jason Delgado again it's going to be Justin Herbert throwing this ball deep towards the right side Josh Palmer gets that looks like he was down looks like AJ Finley touched him while he was down but let me just go back can't really see too much only thing we can kind of see is like Joe Al against Tuli Tui Pou right here so let's check this out pads were off today so not really much we can take away from this I mean yeah push him out and then on this left side I think that's Trey pipkins or is that ran Slater can't tell exact oh that's Trey pipkins so you know doing a good job on both sides there honestly against K and Tuli Tui Pou this pocket's pretty clean can't tell if uh Bradley Boseman is ling up a pressure right here or what but that's Morgan Fox Jordan McFadden at TE, DJ Chark catch going up against Bradley bosan and now we got this clip from Chargers country on Twitter and look who's out there this is not left tackled this is a tight end jumbo set tight end Jordan mcfaden getting some looks with that first team in team drills and you can see he's going in motion this just going to be a pass over the middle to DJ ch also if you didn't notice left tackle in there was ran Slater he's still healthy out there playing still I think limited but let's look at Jordan mcfan in the tight end right here I can't believe I'm saying that tight end and now he's going to be in motion going towards this right side and check this out we have the slide protection the protection is sliding to the left because now what we're doing is we are picking up this Edge rusher right here I think it's Tuli Tui palu with Zack Hines and Jordan mcfaden are two tight ends right picking up that edge rusher and that allows us to slide the protection and it creates this beautiful pocket for Justin Herbert nobody is within five yards of Justin Herbert by the time that he's throwing this ball over the middle to DJ CH that is why you want to have some good blocking tight ends because it allows you to just pull this guy and then you have these two tight ends blocking him even you don't even need Zack hindes out there honestly I think if you just have Jordan mcfan as that jumbo set tight end and then you slide that protection nobody is even close I love that so that is everything you need
