BECAUSE OF THIS ASPECT, YOU ARE TALKING I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO BE HITTING THE LAKE. WISH ME LUCK. >> THE IDEA WITH THE SWIM IS THAT IT IS A HARDER PART OF THE TRIATHLON . THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO GET INTO THE POOL AND WHEN YOU ARE TRAINING FOR THE CHICAGO TRIATHLON, BUILD YOUR ENDURANCE BUT DEFINITELY MAKE SURE YOU GET OUT INTO OPEN WATER AND EXPERIENCE IT BECAUSE IT IS DIFFERENT THAN SWIMMING . HAVE TIME TO BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE IT AND TO STAY RELAXED IN THE WATER AND SPOTS WHERE YOU'RE GOING . YOU WILL BE JUST FINE AND WE START HAVING THEM COME BACK AND LOOKING REALLY GOOD IN THE WATER . AND ON THE SWIM A WOMAN GRABBED MY ANKLE AND TRY TO PULL ME AND I JUST GAVE HER A LITTLE KICK >> WE HAVE TO THINK OUR FRIENDS AND I WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE SWIM AND SHOWING UP A LITTLE BIT OF A TRANSITION LATER IN THE SHOW IN THE 9:00 HOUR BUT COMING THAT IN THE NEXT HOUR, SPEAKING TO AND HE WAS TRAINING WHEN HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH STAGE 4 LYMPHOMA. LAST YEAR YOU WERE TRAINING FOR YOUR FIRST TRIATHLON AND PREPARING TO GO OFF TO YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS WHEN YOU STARTED FEELING SICK AND GOT A PRETTY PAINFUL DIAGNOSIS. >> LEADING UP TO IT , YOU NEVER REALLY EXPECT SOMETHING LIKE THAT TO HAPPEN. SYMPTOMS FOR ME INCLUDED INDIGESTION, HEARTBURN , SOME HIP PAIN BUT NOTHING COULD DESCRIBE THE PAIN. THE DOCTORS DO NOT REALLY KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME UNTIL THEY GOT ME TO DO A CT SCAN WHEN THEY FOUND A MASS. THE WHOLE PROCESS OF AUGUST WAS FIGURING OUT WHAT WAS WRONG AND FINDING A WAY TO DEAL WITH IT. MY AMAZING DOCTORS GAVE ME A TREATMENT PLAN OF SIX ROUNDS OF CHEMOTHERAPY AND A LITTLE BIT OF RADIATION. AND HERE I AM TODAY. >> HERE YOU ARE TRAINING AGAIN FOR YOUR FIRST CHICAGO TRIATHLON WHICH IS HAPPENING NEXT WEEKEND. YOUR ENTIRE LIFE FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN BECAUSE YOU HAD TO GO STRAIGHT INTO TREATMENT. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT EMOTIONALLY? >> IT IS SOMETHING THAT IS A BIG LIFE CHANGER. PHYSICALLY HAS BEEN THE EASIER PARTS BECAUSE YOUR BODY WILL GET BETTER AND I FEEL LUCKY TO HAVE THE HELP I HAVE NOW BUT EMOTIONALLY IT'S TOUGH AND I FEEL VERY BAD FOR MY PARENTS BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT'S EVEN WORSE TO WATCH IT RATHER THAN EXPERIENCING IT YOURSELF BECAUSE MY PARENTS ARE VERY HELPLESS AND THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING BUT WATCH ME. I REALLY APPRECIATE THEM BEING THERE BECAUSE IT HELPS A LOT. EMOTIONALLY FOR ME SINCE THE CHEMOTHERAPY SUPPRESSES YOUR BONE MARROW, A LOT OF TIMES I WOULD FIND MYSELF ISOLATED BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET DIFFERENT INFECTION SO IT WOULD BE VERY LONELY. THAT WAS THE HARDEST PART MENTALLY AND SOCIALLY . >> AND EMOTIONALLY TO DEAL WITH THAT ISOLATION AND HAVE NOW BEEN IN REMISSION SINCE APRIL. HOW DO YOU FEEL? >> I FEEL GOOD AND HAVE BEEN TRAINING A LITTLE BIT. I AM PRETTY NERVOUS ABOUT THE RUNNING BUT I THINK I HAVE DONE A LOT MORE RUNNING AND I DID SEVEN MILES AT A PRETTY GOOD PACE. I FEEL PRETTY READY PHYSICALLY BUT I'M THANKFUL TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE AND MY BODY BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TRIATHLON. >> YOU HAVE SUCH AN INSPIRING STORY AND I'M SURE YOUR FAMILY IS PROUD TO CHEER YOU ON AS WILL BE THE REST OF CHICAGO WHEN THEY MEET YOU AND HEAR YOUR STORY. YOUR COMPETING ON SUNDAY AND THAT ARE HEADED OFF TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS. SO IT'S GOING TO BE A BUSY MONTH.
