Gut Reaction: Broncos Moving on From Tim Patrick | Plus, Samaje Perine | MHH Pod

okay we are live but we're going to let it breathe just for a second or two while we uh pardon me bring on Facebook and bring on Instagram and those meta peeps almost there almost there hang tight and we're good welcome in everybody it's the mile high huddle podcast yet another gut reaction episode I'm your host Chad Jensen with me my fellow football priest you know him you love him in fact he's been known as the fire breathing dragon Zack kelberman and after today's news Zack the Denver Broncos moving on from Tim Patrick I wondered if perhaps the dragon has been awoken I'm I don't want to get too too far ahead of ourselves here so first things first your gut reaction to the news we'll get into all the other stuff but your gut reaction to Tim Patrick who ostensibly was resigned for the purpose of proving he could stay healthy and produce this summer does just that they're still moving on I don't want to force it Chad and go on a rant when I really don't you know believe it it's not coming from a natural place I understand to an extent the business side of why the Broncos moved on but just like you I thought that TP did enough to make the team coming back from injury two years in a row he had a really good training camp a really good preseason and uh the only takeaway that I feel emotional about Chad is if little Jordan Humphrey makes the team over Tim Patrick or David Sills or Michael Bandy I know the NFL it's what have you done for me lately but I feel lately Tim Patrick did enough to make the team it's a big loss for the locker room I get it you know we've on one hand Zach we've rebutted the notion that the Broncos have no receiver depth Beyond courland Sutton but at the same time I'm not going to go too far ahead and stand on a soapbox and claim the Broncos have this phenomenal wide receiver core and yet part of the rationale that we're hearing from insiders like Mike kiss is due to the phenomenal I'm I'm paraphrasing but due to the excellent depth I think was the actual word that was used the Broncos feel like they can move on from Tim Patrick and really it's not that it's all these known names right Zack the this these these quantities that are known but rather it's a it's a body type that big possession Type X Type receiver which is what Tim Patrick really is from a type prototype perspective you have him up and down the roster today we'll see how the the cuts look tomorrow but Zach you have guys like Devon V the rookie seventh rounder emerging in fact wearing Tim Patrick's old number 81 if you didn't know better you'd think that was him out there catching those passes uh but even Lil Jordan Humphrey 6'4 Brandon Johnson's 63 even the fourth round rookie Speedster probably set to make the roster Troy Franklin you know he's 61 so they have a lot of that length and we know how much that means to Shawn pton but still none of those guys including courland Sutton Zack bring that that leadership component that Tim does and then we'll grab the lady d i I want to give Dianna Her Shine here $50 super thank you so so much di it's incredible evening Chad Zack and Scott not surprised at cutting Tim Patrick you keep the healthy V is the right choice wish Tim Patrick well again not surprised on Sam pan we'll get to that in a second Deana depth heavy got to go with our best we want to win this season mhh for Life btg B Knicks for six and Chad just to tack on to what you said giving V the chance a younger uh less injury prone version of uh Tim Patrick giving him the shine I totally get it but he's coming off an injury Troy FR Franklin was Mia in uh the preseason Marvin Mims was playing into the fourth quarter in the preseason games if they had someone 100% established behind Courtland Sutton it would make me feel better about moving on from Tim Patrick but in this instance all you're doing is taking away another weapon for B knck yeah I keep forgetting to mention Josh Reynolds too who was also over six feet tall I mean there are options there I just don't understand what the whole point was of even now of restructuring him and bringing him back unless you're able to trade him if you're able to trade him and get a little something out of him where you were just going to cut him at the top of the Year okay you know back in January they were probably just going to cut him they're just going to release him if that that is able to be parlayed into some kind of a draft pick or something then hey kudos to the Broncos for finding a way to get that done getting him healthy enough again to get out there and compete and create some value for himself but I don't know Zach do you believe that there's this great market for Tim Patrick that were being led to believe by insiders both local and National and Lady D love you I don't know that there's a market for a receiver who's going to be 31 in November coming off two consecutive major inj inuries and kind of like with courand suton that we talked about weeks ago I would rather have Tim Patrick on the team than have a sixth round pick in return He just adds more uh to the offense and to the locker room I'm I'm not a fan of it Chad I mean I don't want to make a mountain out of a mole hill it's not like he's this perennial pro bowler that's just had two years of bad luck but he is a fan F favorite for a reason I want to say his career high without looking it up right now now something like s or 800 receiving yards valuable again fan favorite we all have a little bit of a soft spot and after seeing how well he produced in the preseason it is a little bit unexpected so unfortunate um let's see what else we got Drew what's up brother great to see you one of our Legendary Super Chat Superstars dating back many many moons says man the Patrick move hurts I'm in agreement he did enough to make the team should be Sutton Reynolds Mims Franklin V and Johnson now now in my opinion in terms of who's making this thing Zack and Johnson definitely made a late play for the roster Zack but I got to tell you he was he might it might have been too little too late even Shawn Payton yesterday at the podium was like look I'll paraphrasing most of the decisions are made like you you don't just suddenly with very few exceptions win a roster spot by virtue of the last preseason game like it's just one additional Factor uh in a greater file so to speak on each player and Johnson was a relative no-show all summer and then he had himself a decent uh Sunday game against the Cardinals meanwhile Zach conspicuously Lil Jordan Humphrey did not play yesterday like he's being protected somehow some way now whether that's because he's a shoe in for the roster the Broncos are protecting him as if he's you know starter caliber or like shoe in caliber or they're protecting him cuz he's also a guy they're dangling out there seeing if they can't get some some trade uh action and they don't want to risk him getting hurt this is the only thing I really don't like about Shawn pyton is that he's too loyal to his guys Lil Jordan Humphrey for example or Philip Dorsett who just got cut today Chad he's been with the Broncos two years now for what I I just don't see Michael Burton at fullback for example it's it's a archaic position yet he's one of Shawn Payton's guys I would have liked to see you reward Quinn Miners you talk up the other rookies on the team why not reward Tim Patrick with a spot on the 53 I just thought he did up chat and uh when I saw the Brandon J touchdown Brandon Johnson touchdown yesterday I thought to myself great play by Brandon Johnson I did not think it would lead to the demise of Tim Patrick though I don't think it did dude like honestly and here's the problem too with with moving on from Patrick is like you just said why does he stick so much his loyalty stubbornness and whatnot but also you got to think about the message this is sending to this to the locker room I mean Tim Patrick first of all has had did you see the way that he energized the team by catching that one touchdown in Indianapolis in the first preseason game everyone's like oh my goodness Shawn Payton then talked about after the Green Bay game how much of an energy shift and just because everybody on the roster was so excited for Tim Patrick it like lifted the team beat down the Packers now what do you what's your message to the team you know what I'm saying though all those guys that were just like stoked on Tim so it takes a really Savvy coach to be able to sell that and hey pton is Savvy I don't know if he's that Savvy time will tell Franklin Lewis what's up bro thank you for the generous Super Chat big dog sounding off everybody and that's what we're here for you know we are your football priest and we're here to help offer you the Absolution and answers to your burning Broncos questions but as your football priest sometimes we got to also help you exercise the demons and I think for a lot of our audience and and our friends out there listening right now that's what tonight might be about just a little bit Franklin says I hate to see Patrick leave just curious what is the position group that gives you the most concern going into the season now that the preseason is over all right so a very a very uh a shifting of the gears here Zack what's your answer for Franklin really quickly I see Michael Davis saying Philip Dorsett is not good that's kind of my point he's not good he's a Jag yet he's hung around because he's Shawn Payton's boy but I digress on that I'm going to say the offensive line Beyond just the starting five I mean the back Chad we've talked about it over the course of the preseason they were downright terrible I would look for the Broncos to maybe uh peruse the waiver wire for some help there the secondary what's going on at safety I mean Al also more to my point with Tim Patrick in recent years Chad the Brock has moved on from Von Miller Justin Simmons all these other legendary players I think over time we can weather the Tim Patrick loss as well but the secondary I mean who's going to be quarterback to who's starting its safety what's going on with Brandon Jones who's the other safety there so I'm going to say o line and the second I agree and that includes cornerback dude like hey Riley Moss we've all been waiting for you to ascend looks like this is your opportunity you're there for now that's how deari matys felt this time last year he thought he had ascended he's the other starter opposite of Patrick ctan and it's a what have you done for me lately league so hopefully he does enough that he makes that a no-brainer and cornerback depth they stay healthy and it doesn't become an issue but with matthysse injured uh I was I was intrigued and encouraged Zach by what we saw from Levi Wallace yesterday our first real exposure to him in a game uh because he did show out early in Camp then he got hurt Beyond those two guys though be Beyond Riley moss and Levi Wallace it's a little sketchy at cornerback right I'm not counting Patrick ceran I'm not counting jaquin McMillan those guys are are starters we've got Zeus MC PE in the house we used to say this and it's true technically he was the very first face we etched in the mhh mount and the first two faces up there Zeus mCP Michaela Parker but Zack let's give it to him Zeus what's up steu he says I was very surprised about Tim Patrick hopefully they have a plan good to see everyone good to see you big dog thank you very much and no doubt they have a plan no doubt they have a plan it's just ah this is one of those moves that to me Zach kind of smacks of cutting off your nose despite your face kuki what's up great to see you says Hey bow Knicks could Inspire us like Tim TBO did in 2011 I think the plan and and thank you Shuki for that the plan after uh moving on from Tim Patrick is to give Devon V the opportunity because he's a younger version of Tim Patrick um I just to me Chad it's the bigger indictment here is on Marvin Mims I mentioned he played into the second half in the preseason for me second year former second round pick probably going to be a starter it's crap or get off the pot time for Marvin mims in my opinion this is a good point from Scott here ask Albert o about making the team based on the last preseason game or Lucas koll for that matter in New Orleans uh same same same story but yeah B Knicks hey we'll see Tim TBO had a little something about him that that transcended uh even the average starting quarterback former first round pick everybody knows there was a reason why it was called TBO Mania right you think back Elvis Mania Beetle Mania like these are things that reach a level of hype that defy the rational I'm not sure Bo Knicks uh is Gonna Come Close to scratching that particular surface not because he's not a better quarterback he probably is in fact he is a better quarterback than Tim TBO but there was just that hype factor with with with Timmy that even with Payton Manning Zach I mean the Broncos had a lot more media and a lot more kind of foot credibility attached to the Payton Manning era but like arguably from a hype perspective from a maniacal wave of media or or fan scrutiny and energy I should say and that did translate to the media Tim TBO was an entity unto himself that year but uh Phil brother down in Tucson we love you he says good evening Chad Zack and Deacon Scott any chance Timmy P could wind up on the practice squad Buck mhh for Life Broncos for life I mean Zack I think there's a chance um but he would be a vested veteran so he would be released he wouldn't have to pass through waivers he could then correct me if I'm wrong on this guys but as a veteran release he might want to go he can then negotiate with any team in the league go find the best situation I I could promise you even if there isn't a trade market like I'm actually G to despite report Zack I am going to be surprised if the Broncos find a trade partner for Tim Patrick uh because as as Scott mentions here in our private chat if there was a market for Patrick he wouldn't have agreed to a pay cut okay but nevertheless let's say it doesn't materialize I don't expect a trade to but hopefully I'm wrong I'd rather them trade him than get nothing out of it but nevertheless he's gonna find something out there Zack that is worth more to him as a player than resigning to a Broncos practice squad make 100 grand for the year whatever yeah I was going to say I mean if if he was going to end up on the practice squad there wouldn't be trade conversations right now if if he ends up getting cut he would be picked up by another team probably a contending team where he can be a number three number four guy and go get a chance to uh chase a ring and if that what it comes to or even in the trade I hope Tim Patrick goes to a a solid landing spot same with you know Simmons before he signed with Atlanta I want him to go experience some success because I feel like Timmy has earned that all right we've got the Ron checking in Michael ronio our uh Facebook mhh Ambassador definitely he's saying good evening Chad and Zack on the mhh podcast bow time Bo leave God bless boow Knicks and go Broncos yeah that's the thing is like lot of lot of positivity and excitement every team Zach has a disappointing cut or two each and every summer I mean for the most part you can't really get around it so hopefully that won't eat too much into the general wave and excitement enthusiasm around Broncos country but George Fox for bow we all know we'll have a lot of cuts and someone some we won't like uh some of them uh as I am on Tim Patrick but it's football exactly dude that's the thing is you're not you're not going to agree with or understand perfectly Sher a brain with the team on every single roster move it makes Zach but this one is particularly salty because he is a fan favorite Tim Patrick he's everyone's kind of got a soft spot for him not only because of his story in terms of undrafted guy battles his way into a role on offense battles his way into a starting job gets a fat second contract from the Broncos then Calamity like Bonafide Calamity strikes with the first injury what was it an ACL or was it Achilles ACL or I think it was ACL Achilles but still and then to just as he's back on his feet the very next summer in ailles but he doesn't give up a lot of guys Zak would have given up the ghost there they would have cash cashed in their chips he made 20 million bucks up to that point just on his second contract through two years adios I'm out no he battled back he stuck through and not only did he battle back Zack but he stayed with the team sitting in on wide receiver uh meetings during the season and being a sounding board and a resource to his teammates and coaches then he accepts a pay cut sticks around everybody loves it does well in the preseason and this is what he gets for his for his troubles it's a rough business the NFL speaking of Broncos fan favorites Taylor Christianson $1.99 super thank you so much Taylor what's up with the javante Williams trade rumors I hope he doesn't go I personally have not heard a lot Chad about the so-called trade rumors and this has been the the the speculation with javante the entire offseason oh he's he's in danger he's going to be cut he's going to be traded meanwhile he looked really good as the summer went on and and Shawn pton is hopeful that we're getting the pre-injury form of Pooky so I don't I don't see him being traded especially with samj uh being out the door that's as good of a transition uh segue will get from Papa Bear here though first saying uh good evening Broncos Country Chad Zack Deacon Scott what's with stum 12 and five God bless USA buckham times three mhh for Life Broncos for Life Nicks for six yeah Zack um I mean according to coach Payton it seems as if this wasn't something we knew whilst we were live yesterday for the gut reaction because of course we go live as he's hitting the podium so we learn of this after but he basically all but guaranteed all but guaranteed that they're keeping all three quarterbacks and then you had the story today Zach St him on the record for the first time discussing his uh reaction to not being named starting quarterback I'll let you break that down for David and then we'll get to the perine stuff yeah his uh little sound bite went pretty viral on Bronco's Twitter last night but Jared S him was honest after the game he said he was very disappointed that he wasn't named the starter that b Nicks was uh chosen he thinks he's a starting quarterback in the NFL he knows what type of person he is and I saw you roll your eyes Chad and I feel the same way at least I thought you did yada y y what else is he gonna say but you would have liked him to take more of the Zack Wilson approach which isct team first and I support Bo he did say he'll help Nicks get ready for whatever it takes but he's obviously still a little salty about not getting the qb1 job and he's obviously a little bit delusional about his capabilities in the NFL I mean let's ask New England if he's a starting quarterback let's ask Vegas if he's a starting quarterback and now Shawn pton we can ask Shawn Payton he's a he's a Jag you know he's a dime a dozen handy to have in a pinch if your starter goes down Guy high floor we talked about it till we were bleue in the face yesterday but I I was a lot more pleased and just encouraged it tasted good Zach Wilson's remarks in fact if you could find that pretty pleased Mr Producer you might have to go to Twitter for it I'm not sure but just what Zach Wilson said and in contrast to Jarrett STM it is it is quite striking and it kind of made me even less a fan I got to be Frank with you Zach like made me less a fan of Jarrett stum you have done nothing to really earn the platform to say what you did yesterday look Free Speech no nobody here is as big of a proponent for for free speech as your boys here on on screen right this moment but at the same time speech is free and should always be free but it's not free from consequence and what he said last night just made me realize even more like this dude is delusional David Wilder wondering what if it's the injury question on Timmy see that's a good point in fact I kind of tweeted something to that effect it so doesn't add up to me that the Broncos are moving on from Timmy Patrick that the only thing that actually makes sense to me not again I don't want to make it sound like we're they're getting rid of Jerry Rice you know 1992 version of Jerry Rice but the only thing that makes sense to me here Zach is maybe there's something known internally about his relative health and where things stand with those surgically repaired needs surgically repaired ankle Achilles that is that we don't know I don't know but if that were the case I can't imagine they would be having much success at all with people on the other end of the phone trade-wise so I don't know hard to say David but I do wonder it could be I also read that the uh the Broncos wanted someone with a little more prowess on special teams so Devon V you know fits that pill and also you know Shawn Payton never had an investment to Tim Patrick he inherited Tim Patrick but he drafted Troy Franklin he drafted Devon V you know he brought in Lil Jordan Humphrey and all these other receivers so I just think again it goes back to Shawn Payton sticking with his guys absolutely true uh David thank you buddy Zack on this same note a few more to get to well we we don't want to we don't want to keep Michaela waiting she's jumping in with a generous super love you Duchess she says you killed Timmy poor Timmy P what do I do with my jersey I guess it will join the pile of gone hey steady's comments were in bad form be gone hey uh I agree with you on the bad form and look I have a closet full of jerseys myself of no longer Broncos in fact every Jersey I own with the exception of this stack of bonck that I bought for everybody else not me but the ones I own not that I don't want one I do want one I'll probably end up keeping one of these just but the ones I have were for you guys uh are all cor you know players that are are gone from cudy to Wes Welker pton uh Jake plumber Elway I mean couple of those names are like altimer sure the type of jerseys that are kind of Evergreen in that sense but also I wear my Jake plumber with pride uh I wear my Jake Cutler with pride I really do that's no lie uh so Micha just know that Timmy P you could still wear that jersey with absolute and utter Pride blood free for your team uh orangee and blue achieved and defied odds that not many I mean you talk about Zack What It Takes the statistical probabilities of even being able to make it to the NFL let alone make it to the NFL as a player who never heard his name called in the draft and then from there to earn a second contract I mean his achievements are significant it sucks what happened with the injury bug but I would still feel very good Michaela about your stash yeah and really quickly unlike if you wear a Drew lock Jersey a Russell Wilson Jersey or like a Jay Cutler Jersey like you were talking about you're not going to get a smattering of booze from some people if you go out in public wearing a Tim Patrick Jersey Michael you're G to get a 100% cheers because he is that almost legendary status in Bronco's country okay Mr Producer though let's illustrate what we've got here uh so first let's start with stum let's start with the stum if you have it if you have yeah for sure um stand by getting there hang tight hang tight here we go yeah uh I mean first of all I obviously I was very disappointed you know um I know I'm a starting quarterback in this league I have zero doubts about that and you know it just didn't shake out my way um but I know what kind of player I am um kind of person I am and I like I said earlier I I'll be ready to go if if if I need to be and um yeah like I said I I have no doubts that I'm a I'm a starting caliber quarterback in this league okay let's Jose that with I don't think it was a surprise too much obviously yeah I was excited for him I mean I don't think it was a surprise too much obviously right I think he's had a great Camp um you know I told him I'm excited for him for this opportunity I really I really believe that they're putting him in a good situation I think Sean has done a phenomenal job and then the guys that we get to hang out with you know starting with Davis and then Joe and Pete and then Johnny Mo you know we have a great offensive staff I think they do a great job um and then Bo has just continued to keep getting better you know so I'm excited to see what he can do and and um I think he's ready for it to me Zach that strikes of genuiness like that sounded like a dude you could have asked him at any point that's the same answer you would have got whereas with stum it came off as very uh first of all delusional as I mentioned earlier but also like almost kind of uh well very very egotistical but but without a reason to be egotistical like what are you talking about dude you of the four starts right like anyway but your thoughts I was going to say self-centered and I don't think that's too much of a leap what I heard there in sdm's remarks were a lot of eyes and mes yeah it's not the Denver stms it's the Denver Broncos it's about Bo Nicks it's not about you obviously like you said Chad the NFL doesn't agree that he's a starting quarterback in the NFL and and to come off that salty and uh for a lack of a better word but hurt not a good look we got Troy in the house otherwise known on the interwebs as Eclipse Stormborn love you big dog one of the ogs from the mhh UN we're talking rewinding the clock all the way back to 2019 says happy Monday priest and Broncos family if we're keeping a fullback regardless who and how many RBS are on the roster peace and love from Philly Broncos for life mhh you wi really good question so it's going to be of course my Burton will will be sticking around uh even though I was mostly impressed with the Nate Atkins fullback reps that I saw in the preseason for what it's worth but Zack who do you got the Broncos keeping at running back obviously I think gavon Williams is safe Jalil mlin is safe and audri ese is safe being a rookie if they keep one more and go to four running backs and a fullback I could see uh you you're a fan of Tyler batty I'm a fan of Blake Watson one of the two I think would make it but they could go with three and keep an extra fullback or a fullback in Michael Burton yeah I think uh I think javante Jalil are absolute and audri are absolute lock so there's your three you factor in uh Burton there's your four running backs I think they'll keep one more actually no I don't I don't perine's gonna be gone I think it's three in the fullback and then they'll try to keep batty around they'll try to keep Watson on the practice squad probably one of those guys gets claimed one of those two I bet gets claimed Eric Flynn brother I was just checking on your jersey you'll have it Thursday I think you saw the email that I sent you today buddy appreciate the stars and support big dog Cody dub jumping in we need a true wide receiver one I know we have courtand Sutton but how many names in the NFL are in front of him I'd love to find someone that could take the top off a defense uh Zack the Broncos have a few budding possibili ities relative to growing into a wide receiver one status I mean this is the most quarterback dependent position in the league and the Broncos have been dang short of quality quarterbacks since pton Manning hung up his cleat so if bonick Zack ends up being the guy we all think he is that's that gives rise creates an environment for True wide receiver one to rise all right it creates the uh the potential and it creates the room for a Marvin Mims can you grow into a guy that takes truly takes the top off the D that the the opponent has to respect game in game out Troy Franklin maybe not this year but eventually Devon V these are guys that are untested uh unknown quantities relatively speaking including you know I say that only because of Mims but a quarterback raises those ships it's the tide and I can't wait to see how high that tide can rise this year yeah Cody I agree that Sutton's not a you know true no doubt Elite wide receiver one but you do have a couple players on the team that could take the top off a defense Marvin Mims Troy Franklin uh Jaylen Virgil if he's kept around they have some Speedy guys and that's why I mentioned earlier it's crapper get off the pot time for Marvin Mims he really has to step up but what you said Chad is also true if you have an elite quarterback or at least a franchise quarterback he can make everyone else better he can make a mediocre receiver into a good receiver a good receiver into a great receiver a bad receiver into a mediocre receiver Etc and look what the Chiefs did last season they won the Super Bowl with a collection of number twos they didn't have a Bonafide number one rasid rice was the closest not saying once again that uh Nicks is gonna be Patrick Mahomes but if you have that level of quarterback play you don't need a CD lamb you don't need a Jefferson you can get by agreed Cody dub great to see you tonight big dog thank you very much for the Super this huge Welker fan it was one of those situations thinking back on it where kind of just the Stars aligned I was able to get a good deal on it so I'm like oh you know Bronco Welker Jersey for that okay so I buy it but really he had what a two-year stop in Denver um obviously part of the greatest offense in the history of the NFL 2013 Broncos that was really cool but interesting factoid the very first mhh article ever ever ever published was a West Welker concussion uh article back in uh 2014 very unbrand we have David Wilder $ five super thank you so much David true OG of the podcast I now like Zack Wilson more and Jarrett stum less I wouldn't have said that a few weeks ago I agree with that I mean you're talking speaking for myself I was someone that was heavily critical of Zack Wilson and heavily supportive of Jared sdam but Zach has kind of won me over in recent weeks with his play his attitude his team first mentality you can tell he was humbled by the turnout in New York and he just wants to be the best quarterback he can be in Denver and the last message that we showed about the jerseys at being about the the name on the back of it Jared sdam should get that message because it's not about him it's about the team and the team success and if B Knicks could give the team the most success he has to be behind that and not feel so disappointed yeah I mean Zack Wilson also did a lot to win me over just by virtue of his performance on the field and for a guy that was so discounted Zack I mean I wrote this if I wrote it once I probably wrote it 10 times seriously and said it multiple times on this podcast but emerges from the Big Apple might as well have the word bus tattooed on his forehead you guys have heard me say that many times I wrote it many times and so he was uh kind of starting from below square one and he just kept battling uh really poor start to training camp but first preseason game was like whoa this dude actually hey there's something to this whole Shawn pton knows what he's doing with quarterbacks thing and that holds true he continued to to battle through the preseason and hopefully what Shawn Payton was saying at the podium yesterday Zack is not a lip service I would rather them keep three at this stage to be frank Zack then have them keep two and one of them is not Zack Wilson for what it's worth I don't want to make too much of it but you know STM Is straddling the line of kind of being a cancer to the locker room with with that sort of mentality and I know that he uploaded something to Instagram today about you know being team first or whatever but you really can't put the cork back in the wine bottle the Broncos are building something special with Shawn pyton you saw it after the Bailey uh pick six you saw it after Tim Patrick's touchdown a few weeks ago you see it in the way they're playing flying around the field they have more camaraderie I don't want anything or anyone Chad especially Jarrett freaking stum to start messing up that process hey real quick guys uh we got Keith jumping in saying why hate stum for wanting the job I'm glad he worked hard enough to feel deserving do we want a guy that laid down couldn't care less and says he's there to support Bo no thanks I get it like and part of it too Keith is like hey one of the keys to success is you do have to believe it and sometimes you have to believe it when everybody else around you is thinking you're up in the night and crazy I mean I'll tell you that just what I could tell you that Zach as it applies to a million different things in my life where I have succeeded okay million I'm being a little uh hyperbolic but multiple facets in my life where in the early stages people around me I whether you want to call it crabs in a bucket syndrome whether you want to call it just people re genuinely uh feeling like they're looking out for my best interest they don't think it's going to happen and they don't want to see me disappoint myself but then only for them to come around going wow he was he believed it he wed it into existence it became a thing you do have to believe it uh in order to Zach visualize it and and thus will it into existence but there does come a point here where that does border on the delusional and it borders on uh hu and in this case tonally tonally he I just think he came off a little bit a little bit sour grapesy not good viby just not good vibes very sour grapes and where wasn't the same comments from Zack Wilson how come he handled handled it better despite playing better than Jared S it'd be one thing if sdam played you know exceedingly well in the preseason and then you know he said you know I should have won the starting job or this and that but it was six yards in a cloud of dust with every pass that SDM took there was nothing inspiring about his play there was with Bo Knicks and there was with Zack Wilson so what's the common denom denominator here Chad it's not the Broncos official wave tomorrow but did it surprise you at all that Riley Dixon came out on top in that it did and maybe it's my bias I'm not the biggest Riley Dixon fan I think they could upgrade their um big Le Chad but uh Trenton Gil led the NFL with a net average of 48.6 yards per punt in the preseason that's the type of field flipping ability that you want from your punter that's the that's the type of ability that I don't think Riley Dixon possesses but again it's an old boys kind of league and I feel like Shawn pyton just has a little more investment to Riley Dixon for whatever reason than Trenton Gill shout out big ear uh the Ron bringing up a nice piece of news uh CD lamb he of that 2020 wide receiver class has signed a new contract extension four years worth 136 million I remember Payton Manning you get pton Manning to Denver and you're you know what puckers when you hear five years $96 million 2012 of course we're talking more than a decade uh in the rear view but these wide receivers now Zach are earning Elite quarterback money from just a decade ago but he goes on to say does he deserve that contract what do you think Z I think he's now the second highest paid non-quarterback of all time he's a tremendous tremendous receiver I guess market value wise he's earned that deal All Pro just amazing talent to watch but if I'm the Cowboys I'm thinking I still have to pay the quarterback there Dak Prescott I have to pay my Superstar Edge rusher michah Parsons not an enviable spot for Jerry Jones but you know you had to lock down your talent in CD lamb let's grab a a comment that is not a super chat or Stars Mor and a PL on YouTube saying hey it was reported that Timmy P has lost a step and Devon V his Is His official replacement Patrick did make $31 million while hurt gonna miss him but let's turn the page not quite that much he made about two-thirds of that and then that last year of his contract where he was set to earn the remaining 10 million or so is what they did renegotiate but still you know you go the fan and you goes you know he earned 20 million bucks for nothing he didn't contribute at all in one sense that's true in terms of on field production no doubt about it but he also suffered through immense bodily harm and damage and all that stuff and look he didn't just like a lot of players when they get hurt including the top shelf guys they get hurt Zack and they basically just have to focus on themselves they they kind of turn away from the team not to say that they're not working with team uh recovery staff and rehab medical staff and all that sure but like they they're not they're not involved with whatever's happening on the field and Tim still found a way to stay engaged and that's one of the reasons why he's so beloved in the locker room and then that of course transcends trickles through trickles out of the locker room to the fan base it's one of the reasons why he is so loved but yeah I'm gon to miss him too and whether we want to or not looks like we're having to turn the page on Timmy Patrick yeah um it's it's a business the NFL and I mentioned before the Broncos have parted with tremendous talent in the in recent years Von Miller Simmons I mean down the list I just find it funny the the juxtaposition Chad of when the Broncos traded Jerry Judy and now when the Broncos are moving on from Tim much Zach made about the Broncos kind of youth movement do you see that as a Bonafide Trend and and a real thread that ties this whole thing together yeah it's it's a young man's business and Shawn Payne's the type of old school coach where he likes to have the veteran foundation around him a Michael Burton for example but you you always want to get younger cheaper faster more explosive anywhere you can the Broncos did that with Bo Nicks they're doing it now at receiver with you know cutting Tim Patrick going to Devon ve it's always the way to go younger in the NFL uh yes yes indeed and a lot of that was dictated by the whole Russell Wilson thing when you decided to you know it's kind of like with with pton Manning when he came to Denver it was a unique situation where they had a bunch of young talent that had begun to be cultivated that TBO season on both sides of the ball you know you had Demaryius Thomas waiting for a quarterback Eric Decker waiting for a quarterback Julius Thomas waiting for a quarterback Ryan clady just still providing Elite left tackle play Waiting for a quarterback on the other side you had Von Miller Chris sis you had this young talent and then over time as pton Manning helped develop those guys and the Broncos became a Bonafide Contender year in year out like automatic Contender it starts tracking toward the veterans you start paying guys here and there to make sure you can capitalize on this window that's sort of what the mentality was Zach for a couple years there with Russ but now not only is it a philosophic a philosophical shift that is I think serendipitous and kind of organic but they also don't have much of a choice when you're dealing with 85 million in dead money that you have to eat just over the next two years yeah you're going to get Young on the roster and that's why they they didn't look so cohesive the last couple Seasons because they had a mishmash of old and young and they had a very older expensive quarterback and then had younger receivers he was throwing to it just didn't make a lot of sense but now everyone's on the same page it's all coming together and they got younger and better at the most important position quarterback and it's kind of trickling down from there to other positions Duchess jumping in again love you Michaela she says I heard Jerry Judy was arrested good riddance in my opinion I preempted his his departure just by drafting audre EST which we got to see him do a lot more in this third game both as a pass catcher as a rusher so I'm excited to see what he how he can contribute as a rookie uh and also Jalil you know he spent a lot of time in between Seasons working on his receiving game his diminutive size whatever he is 5'7 5'8 you know you're never going to be much of a a factor as a third down blocker but you could do a lot more and Zack with this quarterback with a quarterback who understand understands this and the Rhythm aspect and just kind of how it all works you might actually finally see the screen game become a thing for the Broncos which would be the first time since the Payton Manning years I mean how many memories do we all have of watching DT for example catch a bubbles to the hisy right like those were the days and it just takes a quarterback who ha who has the uh command and an understanding and kind of flow to make that organic so it's not obvious to linebackers and uh the early return Zack on the preseason show to me B knck is that guy yeah I mean you know who else was diminutive as a running back Darren sprouls and he played pretty damn good for Shawn Payton in New Orleans so it's a offensive weapon type player added to it with the bruisers you have in javante and uh audre ese there's more talent and more ability on this offense and many people are giving them credit for it yet totally agreed and I think people four months from now are going to be singing a much different tune on the Broncos offensive uh Talent just generally upside and this is my opinion in this offense is like an 800 yard six touchdown guy Marvin ms's upside in this offense is something like Devonte Smith out there in Philadelphia which is 1,200 yards you know anywhere from eight to 10 touchdowns he's a real gamebreaking threat when it all comes together it might be uh unpopular opinion but I do think Mims has more upside dude Mims I gotta remind everybody real fast before he crapped a bit against the Jets last year with those two fumbles he was involved in he was on Pace he was averaging over 100 yards receiving per game uh well no that's not correct he was on Pace for well over a thousand yard receiving season as a rookie than Shawn pyton put him in the doghouse I think he is a very unique not to say that dolage isn't unique but a very unique Elite explosive twitched up wack job just crazy amazing athlete so it's on Shawn pyton to figure out how to make that work for the Broncos and think with this quarterback it plays to helping a guy like that uh kind of come into his own because the ball's going to go where the matchups dictate that it goes and if Marvin Mims is if if Shawn Peyton's finding ways to create Touches for Mims and
