e [Music] and welcome in everybody glad you're with us inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Baltimore Orioles taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers John shabby and Chris single on the call and we got a rubber match on our hands today partner yeah the final game of a three-game set they've split the first two and regardless of how important a series is within the larger picture of the season it's a game you want to get up for every series win feels good so we should see a fun matchup in this one all right we'll be back to get this one started after this just about ready to go and on the hill today yoshinobu Yamamoto how about a report on him Chris yeah and as whip tells you he's been pretty effective this year on the mound I mean opposing hitters having a hard time getting on base and then being able to really distract him and do damage in terms of getting around the base path so they're taking the M this is a guy you want out there if you're his teammate and I expect him to be good in this one here's the center fielder Cedric Mullins the wi of the pitch fouled off he was [Applause] late swings through that one out in front that time down to the dirt swing and a miss gets him one away on a drop third strike first strike out for him in this one that splitter is maybe the go-to pitch when he's looking for a swing and Miss like that he throws it quite a bit and that's a good example of the effect it can have on a hitter and now it's Austin Hayes right through there for a strike I'm so glad Yamamoto made the move to Major League Baseball he's one of the most decorated pitchers to come out of Japan and finished his knee Pon professional baseball career in style that to right Hayward in position makes the catch for the out two down all right let's take a look at the Orioles lineup now one of the more high-powered lineups in the game right now it's built to do damage and they got some guys that could punish the baseball Chris so fun to watch these guys take their ADV bats I mean they're so disciplined don't give not just at bats away but really pitches away very aggressive competitive in the zone and when they connect there's usually some loud noise to it so we'll keep our ears open [Applause] today adley Rutman stands in with two away as he takes a ball facing elimination and pitching in game six of the Japan series Yamamoto pitched a complete game with 14 strikeouts and broke the series strikeout record held by U darish what a way to go [Applause] out next CCH is outside two balls one [Applause] straight wouldn't chase that [Applause] time two outs the rander gives up the two out walk ability to draw walks has been something that's been part of his career since day one Anthony sand at the plate Homer last night added another hit as well boots it at Chavez Ravine and getting the start for Baltimore Kyle bradish and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout and the pitch mie bets leading things off and takes a strike well you always have to be careful in these spots because mooki is lethal in the leadoff spot he has the most multi-home Run games out of the leadoff spot in baseball history that one down the line and it goes just foul [Applause] the 02 the short stop takes the ball the guy at the plate could recognize slider out of the hand didn't stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch [Applause] turns and fires the bets swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K definitely made him chase a little bit out of the zone right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes it pretty textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the Box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage sh Otani up to the dish coming off a big game last night with five runs driven in no missing inside ball one one0 one out base is [Applause] empty and another ball he's been raking in recent games and a big reason why getting ahead and counts he's been able to do that consistently and you see the results one down base is empty that one finds the zone two and one now in today's game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they're looking for one two change up call right there excellent pitch selection to go with into Center Mullin settles under it out number two here's the Dodgers lineup now this is a ball club that can really slug lots of homers lots of extra base hits and Chris that of course a huge part of success in the standings for this group well if you're going to be successful in today's game you've got to be able to hit the ball over the fence just defensively very hard to find the holes and when you're talking about guys you know coming out of the bullpen throwing 95 and above very difficult it's hard to string together two three four hits to score Those runs so definitely critical to hit those homers get the extra base knocks and that's exactly what they've been doing two down nobody on he swings and fouls one off [Applause] and now one and two a power such a big part of the success that we see with the good teams in the league right now and even in the postseason that's down and in a slider missed two out space is [Applause] empty got him swinging Rookie of the Year in 20123 got off to a slow start but finished the season with 28 homers playing as the Orioles every everyday short stop you know adley rushman nearly won the award in 2022 the future is bright for the [Applause] Orioles next pitch is inside now two and0 Henderson became the first Orioles player to win rookie of the year since Cal Ripken Jr did it in 1982 it only took Gunner side of these steel attempts Chris yeah you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag such a threat on the bases and that's outside and that's ball one Matthew Ross umpiring behind home played for us in this one he's got a reputation for having a bit of a wide Strike Zone Chris yeah no doubt boo he rewards pitchers when they're working the edges and sometimes the little a little bit beyond that so for the hitters just have to really be aware don't miss your pitch when you get it early in the count Hayward makes the catch grounder tags it second and he's in safely at third with one out the third Ramon Ur and now Ramon uras the goal is to give your teammate a chance to score from third there's a few ways he can get it done but his best chance is to drive mechanics and they're aimed at keeping everything at the knees get ground balls but because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence this pitch has them where he wants to right now so we'll see how long he can keep this streak [Applause] going PA in the Box now as he looks at ball one second plate appearance of the day for him that one finds the corner and one and [Applause] one that's towards Center outman under it and makes the grab and that'll do it back here at Dodgers Stadium ready to go for the last half of the inning and at the plate for the Dodgers James outman the right hander back to work lined and that's a base hit so a man on base to start the inning went up there looking at to be aggressive and got something he could handle pitch was on the outside didn't go the other way with it but still a nice job of using the big part of the field to find a hole no way he hits it that well if he hooks around the baseball there and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion Gavin Lux in the box now take strike one if it were an average catcher behind the plate I'd say take second base but this isn't a catcher you want to run on his quick release is unreal right-hander kick steals top of the zone and it's called a strike with two strikes may see some movement over there first base trying to stay out of the double play right here right back to the mound could be an easy two throws to Henderson on to o two great job on the mound Fielding his position and making a good throw to second to get the double play started far too often we see pitchers have a hard time with that throw but no issues right there that's good practice paying off in a game and resulting in two big outs here's Jason Hayward definitely scuffling at the dish lately only two hits over the last five games two outs right through there for a strike [Applause] that one finds the Zone one and two the Orioles up by a run here in the last half of the third fights that one away still one and two [Applause] left hand hitter Waits and that one's a little bit low two and two it's a good [Applause] take there's a swing and a drive high bounce takes it over the fence for an automatic double well this tends to happen more often in this park than others and that short fence is just so inviting for hitters you see a lot of balls bounce over for an automatic double when no one can run it down so the lineup flips over here's mooki to hit year in and year out this guy and MVP candidate and that one just misses a ball and no strikes [Applause] man on second two down BS chasing that time baseball's coming out of his hand very well he's been able to paint all four corners but really good ride at the top of the Zone hitters have to respect that very difficult pitch to hit righty delivers chopped left side and he grabs it in foul ground well he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit but when you've got opportuni driving runs you've got to expand the Zone he's capable of going out there and doing damage with [Applause] it and now two and two wouldn't chase that time sh Otani would be next big bat with a potentially huge opportunity [Applause] swing and a miss Dro him out couldn't catch up to the heater a lot of adrenaline we can see it right there and sometimes you just got to let it out back in 2023 Shi hit a home run stole a base and had a scoreless pitching outing in the same game you'll never guess the last person to do it Pablo sandal oh you're you're good I feel like I've heard that one [Music] before the2 and there's a ball pretty standard High 02 fastball right there if you're smart look for something down in the zone but not too far and I want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt and the righty deals towards first it's off his shoulder eats him up he's been swinging it really well lately there's something about pulling one down the line and shooting it through the infield it's just so satisfying as a hitter it's just fun turning on a pitch like he did right there and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on First and now it's Max mzy his first hit bat was a strike out one ball out but nothing going on well here's a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and hardly order coming up right behind him this is where they need to get going and that one fouled off [Applause] and a pitch mie hits one in the air they get the out on Muny and there's one down now patting catcher will the batter now will be Will Smith went down on strikes his first time through definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an inning ending double play and he takes one right on the black that's strike one I love this part of the game does he really want to try and steal second against this catcher I know he's fast but it's pretty [Applause] risky and fouled off [Music] [Applause] and he deals and another ball with a lay off that pitch [Music] [Applause] down on the ground a second might be two flips it for one and their second double play of the day will end the fourth pitcher made the pitch and his players made the play behind him nice job 463 any ending double play we go to the top of the fifth and into the box for Baltimore Ryan o' Ryan [Applause] Oar the wi of the pitch fought off foul some real good life going through the Zone on that one and the pitch in the air left field Hernandez ranging after it squeezes it and there's one away now batt third B so next to hit for Baltimore Ramon Ras picked up an RBI in his lasted bat still their only run of the game so far first pitch misses swing in a Miss as he was late that time and a one-1 nice curveball for a strike the Orioles still looking for their first hit in this one one next pitch is outside really good take especially with two [Music] strikes one down base is empty swing in a Miss struck him out had him out front for strike three he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had a four now it's the second baseman Jordan Westberg one he struck out swinging last time and first offer ring is fouled off two down nobody on and we're at the top of the [Applause] fif not even close there and it's one and one [Music] struck him out looking nothing doing this time around for the O's but they lead it one to nothing back here in La Here Comes Freddy Freeman up to hit he steps into the batter the Comfort level looks so high it doesn't matter what kind of delivery that pitcher has what kind of velocity what kind of secondary stuff he is so settled in there he owns the home plate [Applause] area wouldn't chase that time well usually a high level of confidence when you're facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation aead 2 has put himself in a really good spot two fouled off he was [Music] [Applause] late and here it comes on the ground to First oh' takes it himself and the lead offense set down in their half of the fif well he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air let the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution here's teoscar Hernandez home for one so [Applause] far a bit behind with that swing it's strike one just threw that fast ball by him elevated and if you're not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity B is empty one away last half of inning number five all one [Applause] low swings and misses struck him out oh that slider was way out of the zone and for me it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand not tracking it into the zone and then also being a little bit anxious not conf in your two strike approach and so when a guy's in that position you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and Miss as you did strike and he swings and lifts one to deep center field that one carried and and out of here that one felt good and we're all square it's one-1 this crowd is on fire right now they're going nuts thanks to that home run knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off and now it's Gavin Lux he's over one that's through there for a good Sinker as a hitter you've got to look up in the zone if you look down you're going to be chasing stuff in the dirt goes down looking but we're all tied up thanks to this solo Homer all even at one a piece all right we go to the top half of inning number six here's the designated hitter for the Orioles Jackson holiday the pitch and that's off the Inside Edge and it's w to know you know these Orioles just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the zone we'll see but I think they have [Music] to the pitch inside corner and that's called a strike and a pitch that misses three and one now well they have had a hard time scoring in this one the pitcher out there on the mound wants to keep attacking make sure that they don't get any confidence and it's filled up this game has been so tight feels like the next team to score will win it in danger of losing the no hitter here and down on strikes he goes looks like he's picked up right where he left off well he froz him with a great fast B right on the corner it's kind of like bowling when you think the ball's going to get into the gutter and somehow just hangs on to that edge and knocks down a pin well he got the outside corner of the plate and got that called third strike Cedric Mullins the next to hit for the Orioles called strike right there Mullin a former Allstar 29 years old and he's been on a good run at the plate hitting over 300 in his last 10 [Applause] games the wi strike two just not able to catch up to that velocity here goes the runner on the ground right side and it finds its way through for a hit into third now so Runners at the corners and one out two consecutive base hits for these guys here just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes that's all you need to do just let the ball TR put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run two on one out here's adley Rutman he's been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season so they'll have to be extra careful in this matchup at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning ending double play boo Mullins at third Hayes over at first so one away I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield two on one out and that's off the Inside Edge and the count one and two [Applause] the pitch knocks that one away and we'll do it [Applause] again at the belt and fires and another ball he's gone off speed he needs to elevate here with two hammered right field Hayward going back and it's off the wall headed for the plate he's [Music] safe well when you fall behind in the count you've got to come into the zone and then guys have a better down and into the box for Baltimore Ryan [Applause] oarn flyball down the line could be extra bases around third one run is in another comes in to score it's 5-1 and that knock bumps his hitting streak into double digits Chris he's hitting 10 straight yeah and on a nice trajectory average going up OBP everything he's doing at the plate right now just seems to be working so the Dodgers have a new arm on the mat Alex viia and he's done a great job keeping the ball in the park this year the numbers stack up with some of the best in the game Alex so two down now the third baseman ramono [Applause] Ras lace down the line could be extra bases runner from second scores as they add on it's 61 the throw is wild and it gets away up next for anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there so a man aboard Jordan Westberg the next to hit there's 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts this one high in the air to left Center Hernandez on the Move brings it in and that is that five and 1 half Innings complete and the no hitter is no more it's the orial six and the Dodgers won back here at Chavez Ravine bottom of the sixth inning now it's that's the right fielder Jason [Applause] Hayward and a pitch and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter movement in the Orioles Bullpen cenel Perez is up and throwing for Brandon Hy Kimbrell getting loose as well and that's outside they've got a potent lineup and when you think about teams capable of rallying from this kind of deficit they're right at the top of the list and a ball in two strikes the other way that's a base hit and that turns the lineup over couple of hits in a row form here here nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly now it's mukie bets his homeing away splits [Applause] there that's to third slings to Second onto o her two the 543 double play is a gem in baseball and how can you not appreciate the skill and practice it takes to make this Look So Easy great work by the infield two out space is empty here's sh Otani one for two and the first row that's inside good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch and now the Lefty that one spoiled and they count and away if you can locate that consistently it's going to be real tough for hitters to square that up that's what you love to see relievers do coming out of that Bullpen right-handed reliever just
