it could be the final week for luggage and passengers to load on Air Canada planes for a while the company and the airline pilots Association continued to hold discussions at the bargaining table despite warnings the airline could cancel flights as early as Friday and even though Canada's labor Minister says he's optimistic there will be a deal opposition parties want to ensure one is made at the table without ottawa's influence we're not going to support preempting those negotiations we stand with the pilots and their right to fight for a fair deal we're always going to support the working people we're always going to back them up we want to send a clear message to the liberals do not interfere with the workers and their rights to negotiate freely for a contract the concern comes after the fed's made similar comments in the lead up to the CN rail and cpkc labor disput only for the Liberals to impose binding arbitration there are significant uh differences between those two situations knuckle down get a deal Canadians are expecting you to do that work expecting the union to do that work and to make the compromises necessary and expecting Air Canada the company to do that work and make the compromises necessary the 5400 Pilots are coming out of a 10-year contract and are looking for similar wages to their us counterparts the airline says a work stoage could take place as early as next Wednesday impacting 110,000 passengers for everyday operations are down one hospitality and tourism expert says if you have a flight with Air Canada planned and don't have cancellation protection now is the time to start considering your options the reasonable thing to do if there is a strike and that's the thing we don't know yet if there will be a strike is is would be toh to cancel your flight or to uh to push it back to to to some other time but or to book an alternative flight on another airline Kyle Benning Global News
