Lamar Jackson & Peyton Manning Agree On PERFECT Ravens Offensive Strategy

n a n okay Ravens flock good afternoon it is 12:02 Eastern on Friday happy Purple Friday the last Purple Friday before regular season football six days away from the Ravens and Chiefs squaring off to officially kickart the 2024 2025 NFL regular season it is Friday August 30th I'm your host Bobby tret welcome inside the Vault for a Ravens lunch hour live stream Sarah and family have begun their labor weekends I hope you and yours have as well partner hope you uh have an awesome weekend if you're watching so lots to get to today over the course of the next hour including why Payton Manning and Lamar Jackson have some symmetry in terms of offensive strategy and Effectiveness we'll also take a look at some Ravens wired Clips the way that Ravens Productions puts together these films puts together these incredible inside looks at their organization is just exceptional and I thought Marlon humphy in a brief clip that was released and kind of is circulating all throughout Raven's Twitter uh is a great symbol for why you can do both right you can be the class clown and the humor guy on social media yet be anything but when it comes to professionalism in the workplace and he is as dialed in as you will ever see we'll get to that and a whole lot more including Brandon auk no longer The Saga is over in San Francisco he will remain a 49er but I would be remiss before we dive into today's live stream if I I how can you not mention the horrific unimaginable unspeakable tragedy that took place in the suburbs of New Jersey last night news broke this morning that Johnny gdo and his brother Matthew 31 and 29 respectively lost their lives to a drunken driving I I'm not even gonna say accident a drunken driving uh tragedy last night Johnny of course star forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets there he is with one of his daughters on this next slide that I I wanted to show you as well because while this is a huge loss obviously for the hockey world and the Sports World At Large uh both of these men leave behind families significant others kids and it just straight up breaks my heart 31 and 29 Johnny was an absolute legend in the South Jersey area within the hockey Community went on to Boston College where he scored a goal in the national championship game as a true freshman went on to have a stellar career of course was a stellar athlete a stellar player for both Calgary and Columbus his brother Matthew not so shabby himself as a minor league hockey player the worst part about this they were in town and visiting his sister their sister for her wedding which was supposed to be today oh there's no way to properly describe or eulogize these two it's just so incredibly difficult so I wanted to read the official statement released by the Columbus Blue Jackets and they said they are shocked and devastated by the unimaginable tragedy Johnny was not only a great hockey player but more significantly a loving husband father son brother and friend we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife Meredith his children Noah and Johnny his parents their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the on the ice he brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets he thrilled fans in a way only Johnny hockey could the impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him Johnny embraced our community when he arrived two years ago and Columbus welcomed him with open arms we will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other throughout this tragedy at this time we ask for prayers for the gdo family and that their privacy be respected as they grieve again I wanted to be sure to start off this this live stream obviously a little bit heavy about my prayers thoughts and all the energy that I have positive energy that I have is out to the gjo family because you just can't even prepare for something like this with that let's try to transition to talk about football I know a lot of you are hockey fans as well a lot of you are in the uh in the Northeast perhaps you have roots from where around the goodro family grew up and so uh certainly a difficult time pton Manning recently said something to Stephen A Smith that I thought was was fitting and it's fitting because the Ravens offense as we know operates and relies heavily not just on the Run game but with tight end usage particularly with multiple tight ends and that's something that as we enter into a year in which we hope that both Mark Andrews and Isaiah likely are healthy that they can coexist together on the field at the same same time something that is on Todd monins plate going into his second year as the team's offensive coordinator but listen to what pton Manning says with Stephen A Smith in terms of offensive strategy the way he looks at today's game and the way that he would build an offense players two wide outs slot receiver tight end who you got I'm going to audible which I used to like to do I'm I'm going to move the slot off the sideline I'm going to bring in two tight ends okay all right okay I'm going with Kelsey and KD right here right here okay and now and now you're in a bind on defense because you go okay two tight ends I better bring in you know uh our you know extra linebackers right and play our base defense well there's no linebacker in the NFL that can cover Kelce or KD so okay now we're going to bring in two DBS and play you know nickel or dime coverage well those guys aren't built built to stop the run now we're going to run the ball ball at you so now you got a major problem on matchups Kelsey and KD make defensive coordinators have long nights right I'm putting Justin Jefferson out there out there on the right right I'm going to put Chase on the left put Chase on the left over Tyreek Hill no I'm putting Tyreek at running back put Tyreek running back next to me okay so pton Manning courtesy of the Stephen A Smith show now let's go ahead and Sub in some names for the Personnel that he was looking at we'll do that in a second but let's talk about the strategy because Lamar wanted to talk about it as well he quote tweeted Stephen A Smith's clip that you just heard right there certainly endorsing the strategy part of it and tagging his guys Mark Andrews Isaiah likeley Derk Henry Rashad baitman and Z flowers as if to say oh hell yeah two tight end sets are our bread and butter and good luck trying to stop us coming up this season That Remains the biggest question can Todd monin cook up multiple tight end sets effectively with both Mark Andrews and Isaiah likely on the field together assuming that both remain healthy by the way along those lines Ravens will practice today media availability will follow and Jeff cbec just noted that when he went up to one-inning drive and got over to the castle on the media board John Harbaugh Bo braid and Mark Andrews are the players scheduled to talk after practice and as Jeff sort of hints at perhaps that's a good sign that the Ravens plan on having Mark Andrews back at practice today he has been sidelined with a minor injury unrelated to the car accident that he was in just a couple weeks ago so hopefully good news in terms of Mark status but back to the strategy itself this is what the ra this is what makes the Ravens go they have the Personnel to do it they have the deepest tight end room in the entire league they've got an outside presence in terms of playmaking ability with Z flowers you're hoping that Rashad baitman can take a step forward in that category and of course you always have to take into account for what they now have in their back field and that is King Henry gearing up for his first season in Baltimore Shannon sharp had an interesting take recently I know some of you have dragged him as we have here on the show some of which has been deserving uh related to the way he views Lamar Jackson the way that he critiques Lamar Jackson I thought he had something interesting to say though in terms of the significance if Lamar does what he hasn't been able to do yet Shannon's ready to put him up amongst the game Elites at the quarterback position listen to this Lamar Jackson is so accomplished it's the only thing on his resume that he has not accomplished which is that signature win in a playoff game over Patrick Mahomes if he were to get that now we're talking about something because I think Lamar Jackson when it's all said and done he's already for me if he can get one a signature playoff win over Patrick Mahomes Dio I think that's going to put him in the top 10 he mess around and win a Super Bowl there's no telling high high because of huh excuse me top 10 all time yes yes yes I think if he gets that playoff because if I think if he can get past Patrick Mahomes I don't believe anybody else can beat him in the postseason so Shannon sharp says that if Lamar can get past momes in the postseason he'll all of a sudden consider him a top 10 quarterback of all time I would love to know my follow-up question would have been like well okay where do you have Lamar overall at the Cur at this current moment I think we all probably agree he's the best dual threat best running quarterback to ever play the game but where do you have him right now in terms of all time both prototypical and unconventional I would love to know that from Shannon but that is is some High Praise Lamar became the 11th player in NFL history to win multiple MVP awards joining pton Marin we've talked about this right join joining pton Aaron Rogers Tom Brady Jim Brown Brett Favre Johnny unitis Patrick Mahomes Joe Montana Steve Young and Curt Warner there are spoiler alert a lot of Super Bowl winners a lot of Super Bowl trophies among those names Lamar still searching of course for that elusive title but make no mistake about it Lamar's licking his chops and that's exactly what I think he meant with the use of this GIF right yeah it's time it's go time you don't have a weakness in terms of your playmaking ability on this Ravens offense is it the best wide receiver room in the entire league no far from it are there questions at offensive line of course but I'm willing to give the Ravens historically what their track record the benefit of doubt in the meantime and when I when I say benefit of doubt I'm willing to give them not only my confidence but the patience that's required yeah there might be some hiccups like Eric dasta mentioned during his press conference yesterday but at some point you have to rebuild and retool and they decided collectively as an organization as EDC mentioned we're going youthful we're going with Vorhees we're going with Rosen Garten we'll see if it ends up being F alele at Right Guard and so while there are some questions offensively it's hard to truly find a Bonafide weakness Lamar knows that he understands what it means knowing what he now has at his disposal that's wheels up from here it is wheels up from here let's get to some Ravens wired Clips curious to get your thoughts on this because one thing that we know about Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey well we know a lot about him he lets us know often uh what he's all about he's an open book on social media I think sometimes though with that he can come across as a class class clown he can come across as being unserious and a lot of times he is but this one clip from Ravens wired really stood out to me and what I was struck by was the way that he addressed the team and how genuine he comes across as in this I was Hur a lot and at one point it just seemed like I wasn't even in the NFL I was just I was truly just rehabbing and it just it wasn't very fun it wasn't very fun it wasn't very fun I remember Roose said something we were out of the country like 2 years ago he said when I get done with football I'm not going to miss it cuz I'm going to put everything in it while I'm playing to where when I'm done I'm done I don't miss none of it so lately I be coming in here and I just be Jour well I'm tired or whatever and I just right man I'm a tree today like if I if I was like zo I played one snap and it was my last I wouldn't say dang I wish I would have had more fun that day these past this training camp has been every day I've been trying to have enjoy every single moment of the day I be hating going to that way room but I try to enjoy it whatever I'm doing I'm trying to enjoy and it's been paying dividends it sound corny to do that but it's really been working bro the last thing in life outside of real world life inside of job life is to get a ring that's all I want I ain't going to say I'm just going to just life over with but man if bro keep let's keep striving for that we got to work we got to push each other every day we keep coming out here with that mindset like hey let's just put in the work Dy we in pass again eff it let's just put in the work let's just keep putting in the work bro and we going to get what we want to get let's not worry about getting let's just worry about doing every step of the way don't think about what's next think about the now that's all I got I love a guy that can do it both right he can be fun he can be humorous he can be unserious at times and yet when push comes to shove when he's in his element in that building he understands what's at stake there is no funny business and seeing that side of Marlon Humphrey perhaps for the first time maybe some of you are seeing that for the very first time for Marlon who doesn't come across like that on social of course and certainly doesn't come come across like that in a lot of different press conference set whether it's his punchline podcast with Jack whether it's just the traditional media access uh press conferences that he's asked to do on a semi-weekly basis throughout the year uh but that right there gives you a good sense of we discussed a lot at length yesterday about this sense of urgency right this uptick in sense of urgency that Eric dasta and a number of us have been seeing either from afar or firsthand of Lamar Jackson and I think there's a trickle down effect there I think that's a collective understanding inside that building they know the type of window that they're in right now with Lamar and they know where they almost had a chance to be last year just a matter of a couple of plays were the difference between heartbreak and a trip to Vegas so I I found that to be not surprising because having been around the locker room before earlier in Marlin's career the 2019 season to be to be specific I know that Sid's there but when it comes out uh especially for the general public within this fan base I know it can be like whoa okay Marlin's like that what about Trenton Simpson another key member of this Ravens defense you know during the year the broadcast Crews get to meet up with certain players coaches pre essentially like meetings they their their pregame meetings production meetings is what they call them and I thought Trenton which also showed up on Ravens wired was really interesting and I think it really reveals just how ready this guy is pre-season are you expecting to play do you want to play are you asking to play yeah yeah I I need the rips I want I feel like and that's one thing I'm to away from World the more you see and the more you practice you know you grow every single day so I mean I'm ready to go out there Friday and ball out you know I'm going play as hard as I can and I just continue to improve because every rep I get especially as a young NFL linebacker the more reps you get the more comfortable you get and the you know things start to slow down so man I'm excited R I need reps I need reps Trenton Simpson is as ready as I think you will ever see from a second-year player who's gearing up for his full-time starter role he's somebody that flashed in the pre-season he's somebody that flashed in the regular season finale against Pittsburgh when they already had locked up the one seed and weren't playing their starters last year he's flashed in special teams and you just get the sense that this guy is such a pro already that while there will be your your rookie if you will wall or learning curve you're playing alongside one of the game greats in ran and you have these study habits or this relentlessness to not only learn the game of football but to play the guy's begging to play in the preseason he wants the Reps and so while all of us on the outside are like no we don't want him to get those reps we already know we already believe we know who he is after what he's shown us he's thinking to himself he couldn't be thinking anything anything more different oh wait a second I want the Reps I need the Reps and I get it the situational stuff just the feel of a few preseason games going into week one I'm sure will pay major dividends for Trenton but man this guy's got an inner dog he's got that sideline to sideline speed clearly a confident young player who knows who he is in this league and you just get the sense it's going to kind of be Plug and Play he may not pick up where PQ left off right away because PQ was playing at a pro bowl you know dare I say all pro kind of level last year alongside roquan but you just get the sense that this guy knows what it takes to get it in this league and the middle part of Baltimore's defense feels to be just in good hands with number 23 and number zero running alongside one another well my featured guest that I for got to tell you about off the top because of various things popped in the waiting room a little bit early you give me the thumbs up if you're ready to roll there friend if you want to pop on and I am getting the thumbs up from the top Ravens YouTuber a friend of the show a massive Ravens fan a great father a South peridian himself with the rest of the Ravens and that is in Graven vids who joins me for a Ravens lunch hour live stream on a Friday afternoon great to see you hey what's going going on Bobby how you doing man well it's funny you popped in a little bit early I said to myself does he want to pop on a little bit early why not let's do it we got a lot to discuss including the Brandon auk chatter because he is no longer than good in the mix so I'm so glad it's over man because it was fun it was fun I I knew the Ravens waser going to get him it was fun thinking about that but then when you heard about the rumors that the Browns they were in on them and then the Steelers they were in on them then we kept hearing oh yeah Brandon auk to the Steelers is pretty much a done deal that's to rap and they not even going to have to give up a receiver to get Brandon iuk I'm like oh okay I don't want them to do hopefully it falls through but I I a think it was going to fall through I thought it was going to happen but last night when they said oh Brandon auk he's staying with the 49ers I said yes Steelers lose so when Steelers lose it's always a good day for Baltimore Ravens fans so yesterday was nice right and we'll get to that in just a second because there was a lot to this negotiation there was a lot to this Saga and here is the specific tweet here and by the way I'm getting a little bit of feedback do you have me on in the background maybe if you can let me yeah Okay cool so so anyway Mike gapo cool thank you so brand and iuk of course here's here's the specific contract it's a fouryear $120 million contract extension 76 million in guarantees Ryan Williams was in on this he was going back and forth with a bunch of content creators throughout this process over there in San Francisco I mean this really became quite the Saga but as you just mentioned there were other teams that were rumored to be in on it listen to Adam schfer talk a little bit about the AFC North side of things with Brandon auk nothing ever seems to be what it appears to be right on Thursday August 1st I thought a trade to Cleveland was happening and was imminent and then it didn't get done and so the hold up with Cleveland all along hasn't been whether or not the Browns have cap space the hold out the hold up there has been Brandon I's willingness to accept a trade to Cleveland big money the contract would have been done there if he wanted to go the compensation would have been done there if he wanted to go he's bed at going to Cleveland so I figured you guys might appreciate this one because it wasn't the money as you heard there from shefy that was hanging it up from him going to Cleveland it was actually no Brandon's wishes can you blame him in I love it man and real quick can can y'all hear me much better now team vault we hear you fine we hear you fine I think there's still an echo do you have you have a pair of headphones hanging around I'm I'm about to I'm about to grab one in in two seconds you know what take me out for two seconds and I'll be right back with headphones so no more Echo so we got to have it sound right no worries we'll catch you in a second here so again the Brandon iuk chatter is so interesting here when it comes to the AFC North because auk was the one sort of like using his leverage to be like nah I'm not going to Cleveland and maybe even Pittsburgh was in the is in the boat there as well he was like look I I I want to win now and as far as I'm concerned look it's we'll see what happens in Cleveland the roster around Deshawn Watson pretty talented but Deshawn has not yet proven in his post Houston era that he's capable of being what he once was he hasn't even proven that he can be capable of staying healthy and so can you blame Brandon I I certainly can't and you just let me know when you're ready with a thumbs up as well and we'll continue this chatter on the auk Super Chat donation coming in from Nick and he wants to know any chance we'll get exclusives with row or anyone else on here this season I'll answer that in just a bit because we'll have a I'll have more details on that and now in is back with us so so how about the AFC North chatter here because what I found to be most humorous is that okay not only were there a ton of different teams involved here but there were a couple in the AFC North and and he's using whatever leverage he had to kind essentially wave off those teams it's the business baby but I'm so glad that the Browns and the Steelers both got used and abused uh and I know the Patriots they they not in the AFC North but the Patriots too because apparently the Patriots they were offering more than what Brandon auk what the the 49ers had on the table for him the Patriots were willing to pay him even more but like I know somebody mentioned in a comment section it did come out uh yesterday that he didn't even get more than what the 49ers were originally offering uh for the past couple of weeks so it it and it is that's business it happens sometimes you win sometimes you lose but I mean he ain't he ain't really a loser for getting that big contract he he got some bread he got a nice uh pay raise too so Brandon auk will be a okay okay yeah for sure like but like you said the the the contract that was on the TBL my understanding literally earlier in this month is what it ended up being so he didn't lose anything in terms of like you know contractual stuff or you know or or hold out ramifications or anything along those lines but I'm guessing that he didn't get what he ultimately was kind of hoping for but the bottom line is Brandon iuk is staying with the San Francisco 49ers it's a four-year $120 million contract extension and that is 76 million in guarantees what about elsewhere what about Jamar Chase as Kelsey Conway notes friend of the show Cincinnati Inquirer out there all eyes officially go to Jamar Chase and the Bengals now with Brandon's contract done and he's now the only wide receiver in the group of those seeking a new contract before the season this is really unique in because he's got two years left on his deal this is what we discussed at the AFC North round T earlier this week with Zim I know you've been popping in for those which have gotten certainly spirited but uh with with two we haven't seen this I don't think since maybe Zeke did it in Dallas but players got some leverage here but yet again the guy's got two years left on his deal we know he's played like a number one who deserves to be paid the way that the rest rest of the market is paying these guys I wonder if Cincinnati's gonna budge I think if if it goes into the regular season then I think they will um but if if this him not practicing it if they get a little shaky they get a little nervous and whatnot then may maybe they will but you know they they don't like budging at all I mean you see everything that happened with t Higgins and everything that's been happening with him and now they like you know what franchise tag he finally ended up signing it and he been back in practice ever since but with Jamal Chase It's tricky because I think we all we always figured that it was going to be Jamal Chase uh if it wasn't going to be both it was definitely going to be Jamal Chase if they were going to pick one wide receiver over the other um so now the pressure is on because the regular season is is literally uh right around the corner um so if the Bengals are without a Jamal chase that would be a big dent in their offense and they can't afford that they can't and as Jeremiah just noted as well they've had a lot going on this off season you think T Higgins is satisfied with the tag no chance not in this market and that's why in not to transition to a different topic totally but if you want to comment on this please do that's why it's like you know how Team friendly they just got baitman for the next next few years like I know you do Rashad baitman we all understand has underperformed in terms of what the expectations are when you come in as a first rounder both from availability statistically performance things of that nature but what they have now is an opportunity and from Eric's front office point of view to allow this guy to become a complimentary piece and if he can become a complimentary piece somewhere in that five to 700 yard receiving category and a few touchdowns to go along with it and be a piece for them that is so incredibly Luc not lucrative for the team but that is so that's such a team win because of the fact that they got out in front of it Rashad was surprised by the extension we were surprised by the extension but given where the market is right now and given what some of these wide receivers have signed for whether it's CD JJ you name it Jamar will be up next I'm sure uh it it just deserves to be a part of the conversation because they are stacked in other areas and we know that they haven't invested in this position in the past but they have in other areas they have uh with Rashad bitman we just hoping that um it just ends up being a very valuable signing I think that would be one of the words to choose and because it's what 5 and a half m per year something like that so super super cheap um obviously like you mentioned Rashad baitman has underperformed thus far especially being a first round pick uh but the Ravens are really putting their all into Rashad baitman this year I I just remember being surprised throughout the off season like okay are they going to draft the receiver early no no are they going to sign somebody else no they just brought back aalor um and they really didn't do anything they they kept what they had a receiver last year minus of course Odell Beckham Jr uh and they like look I remember even when um Eric dasta even said it he even said uh months ago oh yeah I'm bullish on Rashad baitman oh yeah okay EDC you just talking you you trying to get ready to trade him huh you trying to talk him up so you could trade him and whatnot but no he ended up signing him to that contract I said whoa oh okay I was shocked by that so they're really counting on Rashad baitman to be one of those guys this year Rashad baitman in the past he's certainly shown flashes that he can be that guy um but now it's about continuing and put it all together and now Eric D in that presser yesterday um when he talked about Rashad baitman he made some really good points and I think he answered it perfectly and summed it up perfectly he said that about like half of it is on Rashad baitman as far as has availability being healthy and also making the plays catching the ball when it comes to you but he said the other part uh is on them getting him involved uh in the game plan so we're going to see this year because again they relying on him heavy and now it's up to him and the Ravens offense to deliver we we both our our ears were peeled we we heard the same thing when he said all those things that you just mentioned but the one that kind of stood out to me was that he deserves his opportunities essentially is what he said paraphrasing EDC and he thought to yourself okay you guys is going to look to get him more involved like is is that going to be the case and and will we see more of a connection in the Deep ball game which we've seen some flashes this summer if that can be a part of the equation here and you have the vertical threat that is z and you have your secur security blankets around the middle in the intermediate passing game with with Isaiah and and Mark and you have your back field that's now stacked with King Henry and we haven't even talked about what Lamar brings at the game himself we haven't even talked about can a rookie like devontes be a complimentary piece can aalor continue to be the the The Proven veteran so um is is tylon going to be more of a than just a special teams guy he's been getting some national love crazy enough this week after what he did in the preseason by the way the specific contract figures for Rashad that you alluded to a minute ago uh two years 12.8 million in change that's extension remember he was under contract through 2024 this is a two-year deal he is under team control through 2026 a signing bonus of 3.4 and change 4.5 is guaranteed and you a little bit more north of what you said there around five the average annual salary is 6.4 and change so when you think about what these wide receivers are commanding in this market that's what we're saying it's like temper your expect I'm not obviously speaking to you I'm speaking to a good portion of the fan base here temper some of your expectations I know it he hasn't lived up to his draft status he hasn't lived up to the potential but at some point you have to say to yourself okay this is is might this may be who he could become in the NFL and if he could live up to those numbers then that's a win because of what they've now built around them oh yeah yeah for sure man especially um like you mentioned with everything that they have around them um now I don't think the Ravens are in the best situation offensively but they are in a pretty good one and with the Baltimore Ravens offense it's really going to be about making the most of what you got now they do have one of the best quarterbacks in the game got one of the best tight ends in the game uh they should have the best tight end tandem in the game like EDC mentioned yesterday too you got one of the best running backs in the game so they they got a lot of good situations around um at wide receiver some question marks there but Z flowers is nice and we'll see about the rest of them but again Rashad baitman those numbers that you mentioned earlier too if he can put something like that up 6 700 yards get like five six touchdowns and whatnot then then that'll mean this Baltimore Ravens offense really just they they on a whole another level because what the the the fact that they've been doing their thing as an offense I know we've had our complaints and whatnot with some the way they operate sometimes but overall as an offense they've been doing pretty good and Rashad baitman has not been putting up numbers like that so if he were to put up numbers like that then that would mean they they took it up another notch and the beauty of it is I mean obviously we could view him as being under pressure and we can have that conversation all we want but at the same time I'm kind of thinking to myself like this dude's playing with house money you're under contract for the next few years nobody's really expecting you to do you know what like go out there and ball there's there's no longer that pressure right there the pressure now is can Z be the number one wide receiver for you in his sophomore season can he avoid the sophomore slump if you will you know who who's going to come become the complimentary piece for you you got other guys in the room can devontes take a step we know what they have at tight end and so if anything I actually think that from a Rashad standpoint the outside noise is always going to be there right uh but there's going to be less of an emphasis on him because the expectations have been tempered at least by me I think I think that's That's Where It's Tricky I think I feel like Ravens fans are are never going to temper expectations when it comes to Rashad baitman um especially being a first round pick and appreciate you as Modia shout out to you man um I I I just feel like with him just because of how it's went uh I feel like Ravens fans are going to they never going to ease up off the gas off of Rashad baitman and reason being one he's a first round pick there were a lot of expectations in two because um the other two first round receivers that have come in that the Ravens drafted they produced they produced Z flowers last year he certainly produced uh and then there was Hollywood before Rashad bman so he's always going to get compared to those guys uh as as far as production and Ravens fan they just want to see more they just want to see more we we hear so much about Rashad baitman excellent route Runner Rashad baitman he was always open uh so we see that it's like okay cool that that's nice but all right we need to see something something more than that we we got to see some production we got to see them numbers go up and again like Eric DCA mention it's not just on baate but it's on Lamar It's on Todd monin it's all about all of them coming together and making this thing happen so hopefully this is the year uh you said that a lot of pressure has been taken off of him it has been with that contract because if he was still in the last year of his deal then it'd be like o man what do these Baltimore Ravens think of me um what happens if I do this what happens if I do X whatever happens if I do why what goes down but now with them giving him that contract extension be like okay all right I'm I'm Baltimore Raven for the next couple of years that's a big monkey office back cool now it's just go out there and do your thing go out there and be you go out there and be exactly what you have shown us to be at times before but again it's all about consistency at this point man and to be clear too I think we're on the same page like I'm viewing that as like what I would be thinking if I were him externally to your point it's always going to be there we know the noise is going to be there and as Evan just mentioned a minute ago it's also because of the history that the organization has had Ah that's that position right that's a that's a great Point too cuz yeah yeah it ain't the best history in the world no and there's no there is absolutely no getting around that unfortunately until Z or somebody else does something something about it let's stick in the AFC North here Jay Glazer noting this was from earlier in the week but Sarah and I hadn't gotten into it yet so we might as well spend a couple minutes on it now but the man who's been in Pole Position from the jump according to Mike Tomlin has officially secured the job in Pittsburgh that is veteran Russell Wilson who's going to be qb1 week one for the Pittsburgh Steelers if you're the Ravens who would you rather be matching up with Justin fields or Russ I think um Russell Wilson uh because and I think the Steelers went with him because he's sort of the the safe the safer option um but with Justin Fields I I feel like he's more lightning in a bottle for the Pittsburgh Steelers meaning he could get hot at any given second we know he doesn't have the B the best track record uh when he was with Chicago for me I personally think a lot of it had to do with the situational uh and I think once the Bears once they sort of Envision Caleb Williams they I feel like they even done with Justin Fields even before B that um but now he's in a brand new situation but um yeah I feel like Russell Wilson he will be the better one for the Baltimore Ravens to go up against that would be the the preference uh because if you get pressure like Justin Fields he can make somebody Miss he'll move out the way but Russ Wilson while he could move a little bit he can't Justin Fields move so when you get that pressure you most likely to produce a sack a force fumble strip sack whatever against a Russell Wilson then you are a Justin fields I I would agree with this live chat what say you Russell Wilson or Justin Fields who is your more preferred matchup when the Ravens play the Steelers we know that week one as far as Pittsburgh's concerned it's going to be Russ but you know what the other thing too ising and I don't know if you can put a price tag on this or or dis you certainly can't discount this Justin's trying to resurrect his career Russ yes is trying to resurrect his career but he still showed that he can do it in Denver albe it at horrific situation for him to be in clearly especially last year but for Justin it was an utter disaster in Chicago now you put him in a a stable organization that's always going to compete the longest tener head coach in the league and Mike Tomlin okay does he have a ton of weapons around him no but at least you got some guys in the building it's a more Stout offensive line it's just a more high functioning employer really right when you look at what Chicago's been and who knows they could take a huge step forward this upcoming season but I'm with you I would rather see the old grizzled veteran Russ than I would Justin Fields right now oh yeah for sure live chat where are you at big CZ says I'm not worried about either one I like that Luke says Russ is corny what else we got going on c will says give me the young guy now you know to the flip side we've seen that La we saw that last year the young guy was Dorian Thompson Robinson and I think some of us just felt badly for that guy in that that Cleveland game and that was just I think that was his first career start So Justin's got a lot more experience than DTR speaking though of Cleveland they had four quarterbacks on their initial roster as you know there's only three there right now after they released Snoop Tyler Huntley yesterday are you one of those that are calling right now not only I think we all agree you could there's an area and and a need for maybe a need is a strong word but certainly you could upgrade the primary backup position to Lamar right now I think we can all agree on that are you one would you say that you're one that's calling for Snoop and a reuniting I would rather him than a Josh Johnson um that would be my preference I would I I was actually been calling for Ryan tanah Hill this whole offseason but that obviously ain't going down um but I I certainly wouldn't mind if they brought Snoop back um to replace a Josh Johnson uh Snoop obviously had been around for a long time um but and then he he was here last year so yeah he knows their offense and stuff like that but I just I I don't see it happening um cuz they unless they sign him to the practice squad and they let Deon ly go then I could see a scenario where where it went down like that but I just don't see them bringing him back to be qb2 I feel like they they really like Josh Johnson and they feel like Josh Johnson is just super super safe for them not that Snoop wouldn't be too but they got Josh Johnson they brought him in early this off season to really be that qb2 for the Baltimore Ravens um we all figured that Snoop was going to go uh especially when they signed Malik Cunningham last year a lot of us thought that Malik Cunningham they were prepping him to be that uh qb2 or three behind Lamar Jackson but that obviously didn't happen they changed him to wide receiver but one snoop's uh exclusive rights free agent contract ran out we knew the Baltimore Ravens they weren't going to be bringing him back but there there is an opportunity so and again they could just swap him out for Deon ly or swap him out for Josh Johnson but I just don't see it happening no I don't either I think they know what they have in him they got a decent sample size of what Snoop was all about with some of Lamar's injuries a few years ago and Snoop got his opportunities right and that's what hurts you you really imagine if he crosses the plane and and just uses the momentum there in Cincinnati from the guys that were going to kind of be pushing from behind and he doesn't try to go up and over the the whole and and I hate to revisit it right but the it warrants conversation at least in like what would Snoop be looked at like had he won that game and I think we all feel pretty confident that they were in route to winning that game had they punched it in and so what would the what would the dialogue be the discourse around Tyler Huntley be if he put the Ravens in a position there a couple years ago to not only win on the road to not only win in the playoffs but put Lamar in a position where he could have returned later on you never know I mean who who knows I mean it's it's you don't want to go back and of course uh hindsight is always 2020 but uh I think the team is is telling you and told you this offseason what they feel like they have in Snoop uh and I'm of the belief that while I would take him over Josh Johnson I don't view that as enough of a difference to go and spend the money right now yeah I I agree just to to switch gears a little bit I got a question for you um and I'm not sure if you covered this or not uh earlier before I had came in here um Eric dasta's press conference yesterday he had a lot of uh fun things to say um but there was one part of it where I was just like M I don't know about that one and it was initi it was when he talked about he's not subscribed to the idea that if you don't win a Super Bowl that your seasons of failure now I remember initially when I first saw when I first saw it yesterday I saw the quote from Jonah schaer he posted and I was like H so you know what no no let me listen to the whole press let me watch that whole question and and hear that whole thing how the there it goes right there how do you feel about that how do you feel about if do do you agree with him or do you disagree how do you feel about that if if the Baltimore Ravens do not win the Super Bowl whether this year you could talk about last year the past couple years do you feel like them not winning a Super Bowl recently is a failure of a season or not yeah so the way you just asked me that question what makes me feel differently about the way that I addressed this with Sarah yesterday and I'll tell you why oh I missed it yeah no no this is good though because now there's there's a couple different layers to this in live chat we would love to get your thoughts on this as well M right now in what we know is precious precious time within Lamar's window we know that as team building continues and as the years go on into this Mega deal it becomes harder and harder for Eric dasta and Company to stack Talent around him because of what they have on the books there will be restructures I'm sure I'm sure that'll be coming down the road they have to actually do restructures between now and the beginning of the season so they could become cap compliant but specifically right now anything short of a Super Bowl is a failure yes in this Lamar window where we are right now the way that I viewed Eric was a thousand feet up looking at his job as a whole looking at the NFL on the lens of just how difficult it is to get to even where the Ravens got last year and so when his quote what you see on the screen here says I don't really subscribe to the idea that your season is a failure if you don't win the Super Bowl I know some people do I actually took it at face value I appreciated the transparency it felt refreshing and obviously the the joke landed you would be in a mental institution if if you rode on that because of of of what your job is just how difficult it is to win a freaking Super Bowl much less a game uh in in the in the NFL so uh but the way again the way just asked it brought me back to the present time rather than looking at it generally speaking from a th000 feet up and said and I said yes based on what they did last year based on the the sense of urgency that they have as an organization uh absolutely anything short of it is a failure how about you no and from yeah I I definitely look at it as a failure um and and the reason I I say it's a failure is because if you you you can't put every single team in the same boat if we talking like Jets pre Rogers if we talking Browns if we talking just teams the commanders we talking Giants if we talking about a team like that and they make the playoffs that's a success because in a lot of previous years and recent years for the most part they haven't those teams have for the most part they've been pretty bad uh but if you're talking about a team like the Baltimore Ravens who and he even mentioned this one in his answer too he talked about uh he talked about the year the the team in 2000 he talked about some of the best teams that the Ravens have had he brought up 2000 he said 2006 he said 2011 he said 2019 and 2023 um but he talked about even how in the past five or six years two times we've had the best record in the NFL so if it's a team like the Baltimore Ravens that have had a lot of success uh in a regular season and have been one of the best teams in the regular season then to me oh yeah it's certainly a failure it's certainly a failure because you're not getting where you need to go you're getting far and you're making improvements but you're still not reaching the ultimate goal and he did mention too he said at the end of the year only one team can be happy that's spot on that that's so true Eric Dasa was right with that but it's like with the 49ers I think about them would they consider all of these Seasons that they've had recently successes no I don't I don't think so because they've built these great teams these great offenses great defenses they get to countless NFC championships they even make it to Super Bowls but in 2012 they played us loss in a Super Bowl 2019 they played the Chiefs lost in a Super Bowl last year they played the Chiefs lost in a Super Bowl to me I don't see that as success you had an overall the season was good but you you you keep lo you keep losing and for them I think it's even worse because they get to the ultimate goal to the Super Bowl and still lose so with Eric I I just do not feel like I feel like it's a a failure that uh the Ravens have not won the Super Bowl uh so with with him I I I agree with a lot of what he had to say overall in the press conference yesterday but with that one I had to give a little push back in this is really interesting because when you use the San Francisco example and I think it's a great one because when you think about stability when you think about always in it when you think about competitive they're one of the first teams over the last decade plus that comes to mind and yet they don't have much to show for it to your point of what the ultimate Pinnacle is but then if we really want to get into the nitty-gritty and into the weeds you say to yourself well wait a second there's half the teams in the league that wish that they could be John Lynch Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers every single year so is that not a success right it's like it it depends on how you define success true because they're always going to be in it they're representing the NFC in recent years more often than not in the big game right they're they're grabbing number one seeds more often than not in recent years and they're doing so with this incredible internal development with a quarterback who's not only Mr Irrelevant but still on his rookie deal and so they're capitalizing on that window speaking of sets of urgency they got to be feeling that way right now because you know they're they're paying Brock at some point barring something unforeseen yeah so so it's an interesting kind of dichotomy here it's like well wait a second literally probably 16 plus teams wish they could be the San Francisco 49ers year in and year out and yet we're calling it a fair because they haven't gotten to where they have been yet maybe they're on a different maybe they're on a different grading scale is that kind of what you're getting at yeah uh because again every team they they can't be judged the same because not every team is in the same situation um like I said if it's a team that has been losing for years and years and years and years um then then they finally make the playoffs okay that was a successful season we made a big Improvement but if it's a team that's in the playoffs and if if the QB is playing then they're I don't want to say isoing to make the playoffs but they're pretty much isoing to make the playoffs and the Baltimore Ravens and they' again they've been one of the best teams they've two out of these past what however many years they've had the best teams in the league especially last year and they didn't even get there that that that that's a failure to me we'll stick a pin in it there live chat's weighing in with a bunch of opinions we appreciate you guys for being here some other notes before we get out of here the Chargers signed former Raven Sam muster to their practice squad and as Kevin noted yeah and as Kevin noted take a look at Ravens West with the Chargers Gus Edwards Hayden Hurst Bradley Boseman Ben Mason JK Dobbins Tony Jefferson that doesn't include by the way Greg Roman and several other former Ravens on staff so can't wait for this is it a Monday night game I want to say it's a it's definitely a Prime Time game yeah it's prime time for sure but the LA game and the hard ball Bowl reuniting is going to be something else that'll be fun man that'll be fun especially since the world will be watching too that that'll make it extra fun man oh I can't wait man muster muster is a a of course a local guy he did spend some time last year with the Ravens and I know a lot of folks were kind of clamoring to get them back in the building because of some needs to kind of bolster the offensive line room well what an offseason it was for you before we get you out of here uh not only were you hanging with Lamar and and of course your son's been hanging with these guys as well Carter what a what a life he's living thanks to his dad but Z of course the first annual inaugural Z day that you were in attendance for Isaiah was there to support what an awesome offseason you had with your boy oh no yeah for sure man it's really um shout out to to Lamar and z fls isia likely all of them for um just being a part of that because I know Lamar he says it every year I he say it's it's for the kids it's for the kids and then with flowers he was saying the same thing um at his event too that is for the kids and um it's just it's cool to see people that we watch that we root for that we we cheer on as Ravens fans um to to meet them up close and personal um and just see all the humility uh from them um how they were all three just super down to earth cuz not every single football player is like that uh but with Lamar Z flowers isaah they they certainly were uh for sure uh and their families the same way say like Z flower's family they same exact way uh very hospitable super super friendly super super nice so it it was cool being around all of them that's awesome let everybody know what's going on this upcoming season obviously we're six days out looking forward to of course doing this again and returning the favor whenever you need we know that but uh anything new You' got coming up you're going to be doing your ingame live streams everything back in on Thursday yeah we we we back officially on Thursday it's uh it's it's crazy man like thinking like saying it out loud we six days away so it's like it's right there man I remember uh when they first announced that this was the first game of the season okay we starting off like that from jump uh now I know it's going to be annoying for all of us Ravens fans because um they going to be so many replays of they championship game from last year but I get it I mean it's Chiefs Ravens so of course they're going to talk about that but this a nice way to start off but one thing to remember and this is whether the Baltimore Ravens win or lose that this is just week one now this week one could impact it down the road so to me it's still an important game but it's it's just week one you got what 16 games left after this game this game does not it's not the end all be all now we we hope that they get off to a winning start and I do expect them to cuz Ravens early on in the season usually do really good Chiefs usually start off a little bit slow but then they pick it up and then you know the rest of the history from there but um it's just week one so of course it's going to come with the the the fun takes the hot takes some cold takes to and we we G to get all of that but it it's just week one but be hyped for it and be excited for it don't let nobody tell you oh relax calm down but be excited for it because it's going to be a fun game and remember too I'm of the belief that you're kind of damned if you do damned if you don't if you're the Ravens going into this game from a national perspective if you do and you do go into Kansas City and you win uh guess what you guys got to do it and prove it to us in January if you go in and lose it's going to be noisy you can't get past the dynasty so again ride the wave we all know that's going to happen regardless of what takes place just ride it enjoy it football's six days out looking forward to it go follow and check out ingraven content I know most of you already do you can find them on YouTube at ingraven vids same handle on Twitter anything else you'd like to plug my friend oh no I I appreciate you having me on man much love to you shout out to Sarah shout out to the Vault shout out to everything that y'all are doing man I appreciate the both of y'all man of course can't wait to return the favor I'll catch up with you soon oh yeah for sure engraven vids go check him out always good spending some time with him and chopping it up right before the season starts we've got some Super Chat features before we jump and Nick asked me earlier thank you Nick for the the donation any chance we'll get exclusives with ran or anyone else on here this season uh just to be clear we had our exclusive show with roquan inside the Vault with ran Smith last year it was an amazing partnership we have every intention of of exhausting all resources to make this happen unfortunately we haven't been able to just yet that's the only update that I have for you on that we're still trying we're still very much uh putting effort in but unfortunately just it's one of those things that is out of your control in some ways so of course there will be as many as exclusives as as we can handle and as we can get um it's just a matter of uh picking and choosing and of course some luck along the way I will share this quickly with you along these lines this business humbles you every single day when you're in the content game and you are a self-employed entity and you are you know rolling and and you're relatively unknown within certain circles it humbles you every single day yesterday I texted Rex Ryan and I wanted to get him on the show today and I wrote him a nice note introducing myself told him a little bit about the show told him who I was buddies with that he has you know good connections with her or whatever to to kind of uh add to the familiarization essentially of somebody who I've never met in person and I got back a text two minutes later and all it said was no thank you and you know what he has every right right to say that he doesn't know who I am I've never met him in person he's got no clue what kind of text this is sometimes I feel like I should call the old heads like just call the ogs just pick up the phone and call them because they're probably better off that way but it humbles you but I'll tell you what for as much as it humbles you it actually adds to my relentlessness that motivated me I took a screenshot of it and I said all right it's all good on to the next one as modius I had this up on the screen earlier thank you for your donation engraven is the goat this is for your protein shake McChicken needs thank you brother and engraven is always always awesome and welcome here inside the channel he knows that habitual Lin stepper says I think tyon Wallace will take snaps from Nelson hope for a healthy season but I see him as wide receiver three by the end of the year the floor 12 and five ceiling 14 and three overall records appreciate it habitual and Nick one more donation from you as well I appreciate you that's a couple from you today uh you prefer Justin Fields the Ravens defense practices against mobile quarterbacks every practice okay but Justin's got a little bit of a chip on his shoulder and sometimes with quarterbacks in new environments they're playing like they really don't have nothing to lose I'd rather take Russell Wilson but I appreciate you Nick got to be sure to shout out and thank a couple of our returning patrons that support us through patreon and we appreciate them Blake and Shu thank you both for believing in what we're building here in Baltimore and Beyond if you guys are interested in doing the same this football season it is a great time to join the Vault patreon
