LATEST Rumors On Alabama Football’s Position Battles + One Freshman WR Who Continues To Shine

Intro [Music] welcome into the Alabama football report I am your host Chris do we got a nice show on tap for you guys today we're going to be talking about the latest on those position battles both that right tackle and that cornerback spot I know we've been talking about it for a long time now but we're just 12 days away from really starting to figure out who is going to take hold on those starting spots also want to give a little bit of a shout out one of those freshman wide receiver that we haven't really been talking a whole hell of a lot about you know we've been talking a lot about Ryan Williams and Caleb odm but I think there's another guy that has been generating a lot of Buzz during Alabama's fall Camp I also want to just let you guys know the goal on today's show we want to position battle that we really want to talk about on all the latest news and rumors on today is that right tackle battle really it's been between wilin fory and Elijah Pritchett I think there's a lot of pros and cons for both guys at that position and you know what coach kayin abor has said that position battle is probably going to go into the season just how last year at the left tackle battle between Elijah pritchet and Kaden Proctor did I think this one's going to be about the same before we get into breaking down you know that position battle and the latest on that get in the comments section for me and let let me know who you guys think is going to start at right tackle at the beginning of the Season not necessarily who's going to win the battle in the end who's going to run out there first snap of the Season at right tackle for the Crimson Tide if you think it's going to be Elijah pritet type EP in the comments section you think it's going to be wil fory type WF for me right now this is Chris Capers On Right Tackle what Alabama offensive line coach uh Chris cap said about the latest on that right tackle battle he said wilin is great at understanding the scheme and what we need to get accomplished he makes good calls he has the tools to be a very good player with Elijah pritet he plays with a little Edge to him he can be physically a physically dominating player when that shows up he does a nice job in pass protection and in the Run game so we're looking for a little more push out of wilin and a little more consistency from Elijah pritch it and then we'd have two really good players at that position and look right now The Run Game personally I'm leading a little bit towards wil and forby and mainly it comes because wil and forby took more steps during the uh during the spring time at that right tackle spot but really what I want from either guy who ends up winning this right tackle job is I just want to be dominant in the Run game look last year the year before we've had guys on the offensive line talk about how they want to be back to that Alabama of old at on the offensive line running it down guys throats and really it hasn't really been the case for the last couple of years you know we we know the phrase run the damn ball well if you're not really getting a good push up front you really can't run the ball that effectively and at the end of the day I do not care who wins the job at right tackle whether that is wilen forby whether it is Elijah pritchet I am just looking for consistency at the end of the day because you know last year at that left tackle spot we really didn't get too much consistency whether that was Elijah pritchet there or Kaden Proctor there the consistency just was not showing with Elijah pritchet last year he just wasn't very good Elijah Pritchett unfortunately like I said Kaden Proctor beat him out but it did take a couple of games for him to end up beating him out in middle or during that Middle Tennessee game Elijah pritch had only seven snaps so you really can't take too much into that uh One Snap against South Florida but then Mississippi State and Old Miss he got a little bit more playing time and just wasn't able to really take anything over especially that Mississippi State game you know uh 58.9 pass block grade these are Pro Football Focus grades by the way only one pressure uh against Old Miss but just wasn't able to really take the bull by the horns and take over that left tackle spot you continue on as he gets more reps into the season Texas A&M he only had 12 snaps but you know you really want those run grades to really be like in the 70s for it to really you know be a positive for you I think Arkansas absolutely terrible you know he had 25 snaps in that game most he had in a single game on the season and was absolutely terrible gave up three sacks and only 25 snaps that is not good enough hence the 1.1 plat uh pass block grade no that is not a typo he was just that bad and like I've said before I'm one that you know doesn't give up on a player just because of last year's performance you know I you know you want to trust in the process you really hope that he can you know get better in the off season and you know continue into this 2024 season so I'm not you know just totally ruling Elijah pritet out I think he's definitely you know in the Run to be the starter at that right tackle position but you never know right now it could be either one of those guys Pin Comment so let me know right now in the comment section at the pin comment of today's video battle that I really want to dive into we've been talking about both of these position battles for a long time now but they are the biggest two really out there for Alabama right now and zaven brown has really been just getting a ton of Buzz for that second quarterback or corner back spot alongside deani Jackson because he's been battling Wake Forest transfer transfer to Shawn Jones for that and really I would think Deshawn Jones a guy who has more playing experience in college would be able to take the bull by the horns and really solidify himself as the starter but zavia Brown has really really been impressing in Fall camp this is what Nick Kelly of al.com said about that cornerback battle he said at quarterback freshman zavan Brown still seems to be firmly in contention for the starting job at cornerback he had opportunities in the first group on Saturday talking about this past scrimmage that Alabama had Deshawn Jones The Wake Forest transfer might still start early because of the experience if that ends up being the case it wouldn't be a surprise to see brown before long we're going to Game Time break this down even more um right after this because today's show is talking about disa Jones I personally thought he was going to be the guy that is going to be able to go out there and start for Alabama iname game one not saying that's not still not going to be the case but you know this is what he did the last two seasons for Wake Forest was okay in his uh his freshman season and his sophomore season you know got more opportunities as well but I would like to see those yards allowed come down more now the interceptions went up so I really really do like to see that he played a whole lot more snaps too so you know just the experience in general for Deshawn Jones is really what you know you know shines to me when it comes to this quarterback battle and there are a lot of pros and cons to this quarterback battle now like I said Deshawn Jones has a whole lot more experience so far in college he has 865 career snaps that's a lot of experience and when you talk about that cornerback position you know in particular you know you don't really always want to throw a freshman out there I understand zaben Brown is very talented ented he's been getting a lot of reps with the starters during camp and I love hearing that but it's just always nerve rcking to throw a freshman out there at that cornerback spot because the one thing that I don't that I do not want you know which guy is really going to separate himself right now that's that is the biggest question that I have and the one thing that I really do not want is for them to you know throw one guy out there maybe it's DeShawn Jones first and he plays okay maybe there's you know a couple mishaps some miscommunications and things like that but and then they go and throw zaven Brown in there he plays okay you know couple of miscommunications what I don't want is for them to just be going back and forth all season long one of these guys really has to you know I I said it with the with the right tackle position somebody needs to take the bull by the horns and obviously you're not really going to be able to do that until you get those in-game reps and really you know when it when it hits the fan that's when you really know who is going to be able to you know solidify themselves at the starter or as the starter at that position we're going to see what happens we're 12 days away now from Alabama football kicking off so it's not going to be too long until we figure out who is Alabama we've seen uh their media team put out a bunch of videos and photos as well he had a touchdown uh that he caught the other day took a really big hit was able to hold on to the ball he also you know had a ball and got hit by I think it was uh uh Quinton Reese dropped that ball but there has been a lot of buzz when it comes to Rico Scott during fall camp and I just wanted to shout him out as well because it is not just Ryan Williams and Caleb odm like I said Alabama's freshman wide receiver class is very very talented Bubba Hampton I cannot wait until we see a little bit more of him you know we haven't heard too much about him during fall camp but you know there's only so many guys that can really stick out you know what I mean um and then Amari Amari Jefferson also another really talented guy who is just going to have to go through the process and you know it's some guys it's going to take a little bit longer and I'm not even saying that Rico Scott is going to go out there and play meaningful snaps for Alabama this year but he has shined during fall camp and I really love what I see for the future for Alabama in that wide receiver room [Music]
