Florida State vs Miami 2024 Roster Battle | FSU Football | Miami Hurricanes Football

welcome back to another episode of rock boys football I have been extremely vocal that I'm a massive fan at both Florida State and Miami's roster heading into the 2024 season I've even gone as far and saying these are probably my two teams and I'm picking to win the ACC if you throw in Clemson as well I think there's kind of that clear from a roster standpoint that clear Benchmark that Florida State Miami and Clemson are probably at the top of the ACC now between Miami and Florida State I want to do a little bit of a roster battle and talk about position by position what team has the edge at those position groups really excited to get into this one this is not necessarily who I'm taking to win on October 26 but it's more early March what position groups do you have more confidence in between Miami and Florida State obviously a long way to go really excited to get into this one before we do and as always just want to say thank you to you you guys and it is no secret both of these of rivalries and with both these teams I think on track to become probably one of the better programs across the country both teams clearly going in the right direction this is a really fun conversation to have I'm excited to get into it and without further Ado let's go and I think you start with the quarterback position I think this one I think most people lean cam Ward here even the Florida State fans you go back to the days where it was between dju and cam Ward for Florida State I mean both of these teams were gunning for cam Ward Florida State ends up with dju Miami ends up with Cam Ward now right now I'm taking cam Ward I think a lot of people agree with that I think cam Ward and the ceiling that he has is extremely high but I also think he gives this Hurricane's roster a really high floor you've seen him play very good football at Washington State the last two years now you put him in this Miami offense with a better offensive line with better wide receivers I think cam Ward is primed for a massive year for the Hurricanes now you look at dju and the storyline that is so exciting for me is we know the ceiling is so high for DJing can Mike Norvell kind of work that magic that he worked with Jordan Travis over the last couple years if you ask me what staff do I have more confidence in in terms of developing quarterbacks it probably is Florida state with Mike norell and so can Mike norell work that magic with dju because we know DJ's got one of the more powerful and talented arms that you see in college football and if he can put it together that's going to be a special quarterback in 2024 but right now early March I think you got a lean cam Ward now the more interesting conversation here now the depth charts are not totally accurate Miami not they don't have included the the true freshman and transfers you take a look at the wide receiver room I think this is where the conversation gets really exciting if you were to ask me right now you're lining up tomorrow what wide receiver room are you taking I'm going to lean with the Miami Hurricanes because I think you have more returning production I think you have a higher floor right now now with this hurricanes wide receiver room right Xavier rreo returning I think one of the better wide receivers in all of college football and I think that connection between cam Ward and Xavier Restrepo gonna be extremely special you throw in a guy like jacobe George you throw in a couple young guys like joejo Trader nikar Ray Ray Joseph I think I lean Miami right now but going to Florida State this is a Florida State wide receiver room that we've kind of said the ceiling is extremely high you just don't necess necessarily know what you have yet guys like Malik Benson all the talent in the world guy that's 61 190 pounds running a 104 in the 100 meter dash you have guys like KRON hem Williams Dustin Hill there's a lot of guys that don't necessarily have the returning production numbers they haven't necessarily shown what they can do on a college football field but if you follow the recruiting Trail if you read the spring practice notes you kind of know that Florida State in this w receiver room is kind of like a sleeping giant and so the conversation is going to be come October 26 when these teams square off what does this wide receiver room look like for Florida State because you fast forward a couple months I I don't think it's crazy to say okay Florida State might have the edge in the wide receiver room but as of right now in early March you have to lean with the Miami Hurricanes next position we're going to go to I'm going to cop out here and just say a push here that running back room you have both both running back rooms are extremely loaded with not only returning production right guys like royell Williams coming from Alabama at Florida State you have a guy like Henry Parish who's been very productive but it's also filled with a lot of young Talent right Florida State C Davis has a true freshman a guy that I think is going to come in and play right away for Miami you have guys like Mark Fletcher you have the burner like Chris Johnson you have Jordan Lyle coming in both of these running back rooms are extremely talented with experience but also have a lot of young guys that I think could break out in 2024 you asked me to take a running back room I'm not necessarily sure which running back room that I'm taking I think it's two running back rooms that one are extremely talented but also extremely deep now the next position you you take a look at is the offensive line and again Miami this roster that I have or dep chart not including the transfers that they have coming in I'm gonna lean Miami with the offensive line right now now Florida State I think has a lot of depth it has a lot of experience it returns a lot of guys from last year and I think the narrative around Florida state is that can this offensive line stay healthy in 2024 I thought that Florida State offensive line in 2023 as critical as I was of it at times was a solid group and it's continuing to get better I think the narrative with Florida State's offensive line is you got to stay healthy and I think they did a really good job bringing in some more depth right TJ Ferguson from Bama Richie Leonard from Florida you feel good about Florida State in their offensive line but you look at Miami and the reason I lean Miami is I think there's just a little bit more NFL talent and higher upside on that offensive line you got two absolute nail tackles in Maui Noah and Jaylen Rivers you look on the inside guys like Zack Carpenter ANZ Cooper potentially Samson o canola I think when you look at Miami and Florida State on the offensive line and you start saying how many NFL caliber guys are on each offensive line you probably lean Miami and so for that reason I'm going to take the hurricanes on the offensive line but again I think Florida state has done a really good job developing that offensive line throughout the last couple of years now flipping sides to that defense and let start with the defensive line both teams I think have exceptional Edge rushers right you start with Florida State Patrick Peyton I think you got two of the best pass rushers in the country on both of these teams right Patrick P Peyton at Florida State Ruben Bane for the Hurricanes two guys that I don't think it's crazy to say those are two All-American pass rushers on the outside I like Florida State in terms of the depth that they have at that edge rusher position you start talking about Marvin Jones Jr Sone Lea you got Tumo Tumo do do from West Virginia really big fan of the flashes that he showed on the film for West Virginia and I think both of these teams teams have really good Edge rushers and I think the question mark on what defensive line you're taking is all right on the inside of that defensive line who's got the game records right and you look at Florida State guys like Daryl Jackson Joshua farmer played really good football at times obviously Daryl Jackson I thought flashing things the only game we got to see him against Georgia in the Bull game I'm gonna lean with the hurricanes on the defensive line because I think there is just a little bit more depth you talk about Ruben Bane you talk about Niger leag Kelly aim mesidor is a guy that I mean sat out most of the year with an injury in 2023 was phenomenal in 2022 I think you're looking at two of the best defensive lines in the country gonna lean the Hurricanes because I think they have some more returning production then Florida State but this is another conversation that what are these groups going to look like come October 26 when both of these teams play because you got some really talented guys for Florida State up front as well now the last two position position groups you want to take a look at these are probably some of the position groups that we have question marks for both of these programs right at the linebacker spot I think it's a no-brainer most Florida State fans going to agree that Miami probably has the better linebacker room right Francisco Maui Noah Wesley Bain two guys that played really good football I'm a massive fan of Francisco mauo and what he can do not only as a box linebacker taking on blocks being a force in the Run game but also a guy that can go sideline to sideline I like that linebacker room I think the question is the dep behind those two guys then you look at Florida State this is largely the biggest question mark that you have for this Florida State roster heading into that 2024 Year and that is you got DJ Lundy coming back that's massive you bring in Shawn Murphy from Alabama outside of that I mean Shawn Murphy's a guy that hasn't really played much football DJ Lundy is really the only guy that you have a lot of confidence in heading into 2024 Edge Miami for the linebacker room but then you go to the secondary and I think it's a pretty clear Edge for Florida State right you talk about guys like fentrell Cyprus you bring in Earl little AER Thomas there is not many question marks about this Florida State secondary it was one of the best units in the country last year only allowing a 49% completion percentage to opposing quarterbacks that was number one in the country and you get a lot of those guys coming back for another year and then you sprinkle in some young cats like Conrad hussy in the back end I this is Florida State secondary that in my mind is one of the best in the country and you look at the Hurricanes I think this is probably the unit that you have the most question marks for the Miami Hurricanes right you're return you're replacing two NFL caliber safeties in cam kitchens and James Williams you look at the boundary cornerback spot and I think you like what you have with Daryl Porter I think you are pretty confident with deari Bron on the outside you're looking for those Steps From A guy like Judas Richard the transfer from Vanderbilt and then you look at the back end and it's a lot of kind of question marks that hopefully we get answers to in Spring Savon Riley coming in from Vanderbilt you hope that he puts it together you're bring in Mesa Powell in the transfer portal a massive addition but you look at what team do you have no question marks for I think it's Florida state in the back end opposed to this Miami roster now going into the overall roster we gave the edge or I gave the edge I guess to the hurricanes in a of these spots now these teams play on the field I think the last question that you're evaluating is the coaching staff what team or what coach do you trust more to win a big game right and this is going to be one of the biggest games that we see across college football Mike norell or Mario crisal and I think why a lot of people lean Florida State and maybe this matchup as a whole is you have a little bit more trust in Mike norell in this coaching staff in terms of winning these big games Mario chrisal quite frankly hasn't proven that that during his time at Miami yet this is a massive year for Mario Cris ball and this hurricanes team to show that they can win these kind of games I am very we're gonna go through obviously and kind of pick this game when it when the time comes I'm not going to come out and make a prediction right now I want to go through spring practice obviously both these teams gonna make some additions in the transfer portal I guess we'll we'll kind of cut it at this what roster am I taking had into 2024 right now early March it's going to be the Miami Hurricanes what team and what coaching staff do I have more confidence in winning big games it's probably Mike norell and that Florida State staff I think that sets up for an extremely exciting game on October 26 cannot wait for this game to come can't wait to break it down appreciate you guys rocking with the fellas if
