welcome to Upstate New York Syracuse University and Under the Dome today we have a terrific clash in store today a clash between a couple of ACC rivals in a game that could have big time implications for the rest of the season as we'll see the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets taking on the Syracuse or for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Po and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started [Music] Syracuse will kick off and we'll be [Applause] underway and he takes this from inside the five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 so Georgia Tech's offense is on the field for the first time today and here he is one of the best receivers in the game and he just commands attention both from the defense and from the fans yeah he's a guy you got to keep your eye on and you're going to see him line up all over the field in this game he can play in the slot he can play out wide he can run the entire gamut in the route tree as well really nothing this guy can't do they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first [Applause] down right back to the well they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one they're trying to run the ball on first down guys but just nothing doing up front their offensive line got blown up on that play there was nowhere for that guy to go lost one on that last one it's second and 11 they'll Run play action he's going to let it go oh he dropped it and what a missed opportunity early in this football game quarterback could not have walked that ball and placed it into the hands of his receiver any better that was a perfect throw white out deep down field you got to finish the play third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off back to pass it's king oh he loves to fire downfield he's got it inside the 15 and he'll take it all the way they couldn't bring him down touchdown George attack you want to talk about a great way to start the game and set the tone early it's so nice to have a quarterback back just get himself into the game and get himself established you make a couple throws you lead your offense down the field you score right off the bat could not have been a better start for that QB lining up for the pat [Applause] and the extra point makes it seven nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they find P from way out covering 69 yds on the touchdown pass the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one away he'll start the return inside the spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the orange offense will get its first chance now one thing to watch can this guy get in the quarterback's head and make him take a peek at the rush David dang Skippy that's what you want to do you want to make this guy a little bit more human and not as much of a game breaker at the quarterback spot get some pressure on and hit him a few times he's one of the best quarterbacks in the country but he can't hurt you if he's laying on his back and this defensive end can put him there often Syracuse right back at it they go to the ground he's stuffed after picking up one to the 23 defense showing plenty of pre that movement of their own coming to the line of scrimmage on third down dropping back it's McCord got his man quickly he'll make a play on third down he's got enough for the first as they mark it at the 32 obviously third Downs are so critical cuz you you get you get an extra chance to wear that defense out great job by the offense great job by the quarterback completing the pass getting the first down moving the sticks fresh set of down continue to wear on this defense wants to throw on first down going to try to pop one on the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short gain there still plenty of ground to cover for the first down well it's important in this game this offense gets the running back involved out on the perimeter in space we can do some damage that time they got it to him throwing the football he picked up a couple of yards but it gives the defense something to think about on second down he'll fire CAU in the back field it's Allen he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short well he comes up with the reception but not a lot of room to run after that yeah and I like the QB doing this I mean I'm going to find ways to give him the football and see if he can make a miss and I'm going to bet most of the time that my guy is a little bit more athletic than that defensive guy defense won this battle but I like trying to get this guy the ball in space gets it out fast good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch shotgun fundamentals are so key he was like a short stop caught the shotgun snap and right away rifled it out of his hands like he was turning two that was beautiful Syracuse has a really nice drive going going to the ground not much working there it'll be second and nine they want to get this defense on its heels they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw finally pulled down but not before moving the chains for a first down and another nice gain by the offense all right defense we got to change something up here they they're putting a big drive together play after play having a lot of success how do we break the Rhythm how do we give him something that can create a tackle for a loss or a sack or something to get momentum back on my side they'll try the run and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two Syracuse right back at it leaves it with the running back nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry it's amazing how played by a defensive end in the back field can really swing the momentum not only of a series but of a game sometimes all you're trying to do is create negative plays to get them behind the sticks a little bit to get those sacks to get those tackles for a losses you see so much stunting in college football up front with the defensive line because you know once you get one of those plays you got the offense right where you want he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three tell you they tried to go draw in the middle of the field that back had nowhere to go with the football he was tackled right away for a loss Syracuse will be forced to punt first punt of the day and he love to lock him up close to their goal line [Applause] and he will boom that punt out of bounds no chance for a return let's see where the official spotted plls and fires complete that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and I think you're seeing these guys in every offense now these little are guys that they're so quick it's hard to get a hand on them run crisp routes you can throw it short you can throw it long but they're just Big Time Playmakers we've definitely seen an emphasis shift towards smaller wide receivers with some serious St he is knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and they sniff that draw out the draw you really have to sell that pass like you're going to throw the ball down the field but the defensive line the defense was not fighting you could tell they were ready for it Kan got on the running back got him on the ground quick fast not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 incomplete he had to get rid of it before he wanted to the defense put the heat on it's so nice when you know it's third and long you know a pass is coming we worked on it all week get your feet set at the sticks understand that quarterback's got to be rushed get him off of his spot nice execution by this defense the yellow jackets will bring the punt team onto the field they'll have to punt for the first time this afternoon typically at this spot on the field you make a fair catch I'd call that risk aversive but it is good field position the give to the back and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up linebacker shuffling around trying to keep the quarterback from getting a read they try to pop a run on the draw and he's stupped by that big defensive tackle up front well they try to go withraw they didn't catch the defense blitzing so it wasn't a great look anyway but up front they just got beat regardless and that back David had nowhere to go he had nowhere to go but those offensive linemen you got a set and you got to invite those defensive linemen up the field and kind of push them by and and you could tell they didn't do that they didn't create any holes there was really nowhere for him to go you got to give him that first little hole then maybe he can make a move so the offensive line needs to do a better job that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the Stop Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down give to the back and a nyd gain on first down leaves him with second and short Syracuse right back at it scaning the field it's McCord good timing on the quick out he's got enough to give Syracuse the first down why that got the completion there and it didn't go very far but the big fell with a nice catch just inside the Red Zone first and 10 from the 19 the give to the running back from the shotgun they get him stopped after a 2yd game ball is at the 17 guys we've reached the end of the quarter and Georgia Tech has the lead we played one before we move on let's have a look at the [Music] stats they've switched in into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second and here comes play number six of the drive the give to the right picked up maybe a yard it's down at the 16 they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on third down going up top oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down after that incompletion it's now fourth and short in the Red Zone decision time if you're the head coach you just take the field goal or do you keep your offense on the field looking to get six and they decide to trot out the kicker the holder will put it down on the right Hash a 33 yd try it is good [Music] [Music] after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it [Applause] away on the move from inside is five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense catch open down the middle he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down love the play call on the RP that time the defender bites on the Run fake and that opens up the window for the slant coming in behind it nice job and now on second down for this offense he leaves it with his back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and just nowhere to go for that Runner he had no choice that defense they were bringing it up front everybody body winning their one-onone and they completely had him surrounded looking for that first down on Third and short from the 28 dropping back it's Kane fires to the middle he makes the catch and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and listen the defense knew coming into this one they were going to Target him early and often he is a weapon and there's no mystery where the quarterback's going to be looking on critical down and distances let's see how they are able to cover him throughout the rest of this game caught in the back field it's Lane and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game just had a solid pick up on first now let's see what they've got on second down he's looking to throw quick strike complete and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few well when you're running the drag outout against man coverage like that as a quarterback you got to put the ball out in front of your target when you do that you give the guy a chance to then Advance the football up the field pick up a first down like they did right there a completion but not quite enough for the first down third down coming for this offense they'll try to move the chains on the ground they've got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down you wonder now on offense have they found something in the Run game finally it's been tough for them to get the Run game going but they picked up a nice gain on that last one let's see if they go back to it and the yellow jackets have their offense in high gear they'll give it to him again we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line looking downfield it's King looking left it's caught downfield he's br brought down but he's got him inside the 10 first and goal from the eight this offense is clicking everything working together really well coordinator quarterback offensive line good Rhythm good flow defense is going to have to find something to kind of mess up this timing they got going on the yellow jackets have it in scoring position on first and [Applause] goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he bullies his way all all the way down to the 5 yd [Applause] line now the offense tries to punch it in on second and goal he'll run it up the middle trying to pick his way to the end zone and he takes it to the house touchdown yellow jacket man did he show some hops for that one some serious vertical right there I tell you what everybody in front of you hey I'll go by air if I need to good job getting in the air getting the [Music] touchdown lining up to Attack One More onto that lead exra point and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead they marched 78 yds down the field and they punctuated it with a 5yd touchdown run the kickoff team out there and ready to [Applause] go here he comes from inside his own f five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work it's always great to get points on a drive but it would behoove them to try to get a touchdown this time around Palmer they may have to get out of their comfort zone here too David a little bit and just start being more aggressive and take some chances but that's what's going to have to happen for them to win this game yeah and when you're losing obviously everything gets hypen everything becomes more critical this Drive is crucial because you've got to cut into this deficit and put some points on the board Syracuse right back at it back to throw it's MC h his tight end and they pick up just a few on that completion you know I know it seems like an easy pitch and catch but for the tight end there that route potentially changes if it's made and coverage so good job by him knowing it zone I'm just going to sit down this is basically like a check down right let's just take the easy pitch and catch and keep this drive th here they come trying to convert a third and short from the 28 the playaction fake and they'll miss the connection here on third down third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the offense and the ball Falls incomplete Syracuse will send out the punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away they make the stop on the return but there is laundry on the field let's get the call personal foul nothing the kick defense the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty running back searching for a hole One Step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground got three on first down it's second and seven he's looking to throw grabed behind the line it's Ross Simmons he's there to make the Stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play great recognition by the defense on that pass play they knew exactly who the quarterback was going to and they got there quick the D thinking bring some heat on Third and long from the 44 looking downfield it's McCord it's complete and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 man this offense is so dangerous Rees they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 wide receiver now comes in motion going up top on first down fires to the middle and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball well that's just a great play by the defender and great timing is the hit that forced that incompletion Bunch formation trying to Spring a guy free on second down he'll try to make the connection quickly complete knocked down immediately but a nice pick up on that one third and short from the 22 is a field goal unit getting ready or is this already four down territory we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little something off of this lead before the break Ball's at the 22 third and short coming can the defense force them to settle for a field goal from the gun wants to pass got a man in the middle and he'll take it in and house it touchdown Syracuse and the defense has to be able to do a better job on the back end tackling this receiver and keeping him out of the end zone [Music] [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their score and the P will draw them one point closer they put together a 65 yd drive with to score and the scoring play comes on a touchdown pass from 22 yd out just about set to kick it [Applause] away here's the return from inside is 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Georgia Tech offense rolls back onto the field he'll come out throwing on first down the short hands it's Lane he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down yeah you throw a little hitch route nice job getting the ball out of his hands quickly wide receiver quarterback nice job being on the same page nice completion nice catch right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium looking to throw it's kinge fires to the wide out it's caught and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his to he's running free down the middle he was working his way toward that goal line they'll stop him at the two after the big play up top he nice job by the offense there attacking the middle of the field excellent route finding the a soft spot in the defense nice job by the quarterback putting it right on his guy and the yellow jackets will try to punch it in on first and goal used the play fake now a throw quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds I tell you what when you get inside the three I think your tendency is to run the football run the football run the football the offense try to change it up a little bit maybe try to throw it I I don't like it and obviously it didn't work but at least you got a few more Downs here to try to make up for it and this defense goes backto back sack Jack and that is backto back sacks you get down here in this part of the field man you you want to keep going going forward you want to make sure you put yourself in a good situation hopefully to go for it if you need to on fourth down but now you're putting yourself really behind the eightball back to back sacks third and goal coming up here dropping back it's Kane still looking on the move and this defense has maxed out this pressure another [Applause] [Music] sack they'll use a timeout right before halftime maybe time for one or two more [Music] plays so they are Deni a touchdown on this drive but they'll try to put up the three spot before the [Applause] break never anoun [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he'll be brought down and that's the final play of the half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update fellow a typical First Rate broadcast so far today from Syracuse and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps in the defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch radius and with that let's send it back to the guys inside the dome in lovely Central New York the yellow jackets will kick it away to start the second half he'll bring it back from inside to spot didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field they start this third quarter one possession game and hoping to get an early drive going this offense is ready and they're ready to take the field here and see if they can get something established they don't have to change everything and reinvent the wheel they've had some successes in the first half so let's get that continue here on the opening drive and I love getting that break at half to go talk with my coaches and pick my offens a coordinator's brain so I know exactly what I need to do to attack this defense and I get ball first out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 here on third down for this offense to the air it's mcco got it set up on the outside and they wrap him up but not before he gets enough on the catch for the first down you know it's a nice throw by the QB there when you're throwing to running backs you got to make it easy on so you want to put it right on their body make the catch simple and let them go to work like they did just there getting that First Defense trying to keep this offense from getting a line on who to block Syracuse right back at it trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here couldn't find a lane a pick up of one to the [Music] 31 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine from the gun they'll try to to impose their running game not a lot of daylight he gets one to the 32 a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass with the catch it's Hayes nice Patience by the quarterback here working against Zone coverage he was allowing his receiver an opportunity to find that open space in the defense before pulling the trigger the orange will have to punt this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return coming he'll call for the fair catch the Ramblin wreck offense rolls back onto the field guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and the tempo and all the stuff they do was a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win line getting set on second down he'll do it himself and they'll get it to the 39 yd line and they'll move the chains there's an example of the offense taking advantage of all the attention the defense is giving this outstanding running back remember he's one of the best in the game they're expecting him to get the football so the quarterback says you know what I'll just keep it no one's keying on me I'm going to get up field and find an explosive [Applause] play he leaves it with the back and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go they got nothing on the last play it's second and [Applause] 10 the give to the tail back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anymore they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from [Applause] here to the air it's King fires to the right makes the grab and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down on third down offenses have their plays what they like in third short what they like third medium third long great job by the offense having success now it's incumbent upon the defense to learn their plays and try to shut it down throughout the game they'll throw it on first down he's got his man and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few that last completion sets him up on second down on the ground it's Haynes not a whole lot of progress made there on the short R they've been able to control the ball this is the seventh play of the drive it's third and three looking to throw for it caught over the middle it's Singleton he gets it to the 38 yd line and they'll pick up a fresh set of downs third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe and and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you quick completion to the right all the way down to the 25 yd line they move the sticks it's first down that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab yeah and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot as he can go either direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties using the quick game they make the stop but the sweet throwing catches plenty to give him a first down we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball power football with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple great running backs consistently make people Miss he did a really good job of breaking one tackle but he couldn't do it to the next into the next and the next the offensive line going to have to do a lot better job giving him some more space so he can get out in the open field and make some plays for this offense hit a little speed bump on this drive it's second and 12 to the air it's Kane and he drops it just took his eye off of it at the last minute why open big play opportunity hits him right between the numbers you got to make that play those are one of those where I I tap my helmet like d that that was me that was on me my bad give me another opportunity later 12th play of the drive coming up but they've got a long way to go here on third down and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up after that incompletion because you're down in the Red Zone setting up fourth and long you'd imagine they jog the field goal unit out here but we've seen offenses stay aggressive they believe in their Playmakers they want to score touchdowns you might see this offense go for it splits the upright it's good hold on just a second a flag downi defense this could turn out to be a huge penalty thought they were going to have to settle for three and now the offense back on the field with a chance for more leaves it with the back not much room he gets one down to the seven defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming [Applause] he'll bull it on the re he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three yeah nice job by this defense stringing it out towards the sideline and when I do that man all my body's got to Rally to the football we got to run with the football really really hard from inside out nice job by the defense getting to the quarterback and makeing the play wants to throw for it on Third and goal he's got it on the run and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short [Applause] gain they'll try to cap off this drive with a field goal and he'll try to knock through a short one is second of the day this one from 23 and it's no good and the margin remains at seven after the [Music] miss the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the pun this offense gets to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of a rhythm best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them to football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense halfway there on first down it's second and five using his legs of talent brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down more always have to run second place right it doesn't have to always be uptempo and fast and spread and doing all this stuff sometimes you just lower your shoulder sometimes you just run powerfully you get the first down and that's all that matters Syracuse right back at it it's a draw they'll wrestleing down just short of the first down I didn't think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one guys we've reached the end of the quarter and Georgia Tech has the lead they've built a cushion they've got a nice lead now the task is finish the deal as you take a look at the third quarter steps not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too it's time as we open open the for one running back in the back field and he has it he's got enough to give Syracuse the first down this is a guy that can find you the hit yardage that play he just pushes the pile to get that first down Syracuse has a really nice drive going looking to throw it's Court fires to the tight end didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few nice route there by the tight and making it real easy for his quarterback to find an easy completion linebackers trying to create some confusion moving quickly trying to Rattle the D they'll go back to the ground and he has a solid gain before the defense botles him up after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker they've got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more most important part of a clutch Drive piece together some first downs get in position and here they are on First and 10 and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up got a little work done on first down now back to the [Music] line looking for a physical attack from the gun makes the tackle at the 31 it's a pick up of five on the play Syracuse right back at it he'll keep it himself working their way closer and closer a third down conversion and they've got it at the 26 ooh I like that option play I'd keep running that too cuz it's obvious VI the defense right now is really keying in on this running back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to run now they'll try the right side nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and a great job by the linebacker you could tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss put themselves in a bit of a bind with that last one is second and 14 back to throw it's McCord looking to the big tight end working the middle dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down great job by the quarterback thrown against Zone coverage you cannot Telegraph where you're throwing the football you cannot eyeball wide receivers so great job by the quarterback using his eyes not staring down his guy and then throwing him open Syracuse ready to go to work with another first down he's looking to throw it the short hands it's Hatcher that completion will take him inside the 10 to the N yd line going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the End Zone from the gun the running back has it forges ahead for one to the 8 yd line tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can pick up a first down without scoring third down from the gun wants to pass and he makes the grab in the back of the end zone but the officials are all over it signaling incomplete he was out of bounds man they just couldn't find a hole down in the Red Zone the field shrinks so much harder to complete those passes but fourth and short now decision time baby and here we go down a score they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down feeling some heat and he sacked a big play on fourth down to stop this drive I know that was tough but as a quarterback you got to know on fourth down you cannot take a sack any way shape or form you've got to be able to get rid of that football and give it an opportunity that time I know it wasn't blocked perfect but the quarterback's got to have more sense of urgency Georgia Tech has the ball back and here comes the Yellow Jacket offense looking for a productive play on first down quarterback on the keeper makes it pass to marker they make the stop but this running game moves to change as they get the first down well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down the back goes in motion to the air on first down grabed in the back field it's Hayes makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground I think most offenses around the country in a situation like this with the lead late would be trying to run the football right or throw it short and try to bleed the clock but this offense man and it's still pedal to the metal they're looking for chunk play opportunities with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 to give as they work on that clock he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you got to give this defense credit because they have bottled this guy up all game long he's one of the best running backs in Olive College Football everybody was expecting him to have a big one today don't tell that to this defense though they've played with great effort they've gotten hats to the football and they have been able to shut him down to throw it's kaning they're bringing heat that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fuckle it'll be third down this defense fell coming into the game that if he was going to try to throw from the pocket they could get to him and affect his accuracy and they did on that last play certain moments in the game you know we just a little bit bigger here's one of the big play coming on third long from the gun wants to pass catch in the middle it's Hayes and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down that's why as a defense you want to set up third and long situations you just want to be able to keep the football in front of you it's okay for that quarterback to hit the running back on that pass now you have all those bodies flying the football they there and the yellow jackets will putt this one away this will be the second time they've had to kick K it away signals for the fair Catch and that's where they'll put it in play just outside the 20 the Syracuse offense heads back onto the field they'll come out on this drive and let it rip just a short pass to the tight end and they'll shove him out of bounds after the short gain and how about the defense how big was that stop forcing the punt getting it back to the offense and all of a sudden you feel the momentum now on their side let's see what they've got on second [Applause] down he's looking to throw that pass is incomplete fairly manageable distance here on third down from the 27 from the gun wants to pass finds his man it's Ross Simmons it's a game of first downs and they've got one after their own 37 and I like having matchups outside like this guys that I know will win right away third down find my guy get him the rock he gets the first down Syracuse right back at it looking to pass it's mcord and it just squirted through his hands he wanted to take off and got too anxious that is one the tight end is going to want to have back he was wide open on that play that's one he's got to make he's got to be able to make that catch second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was knocked loose and third down is coming the offense has plenty of time and this defense trying to dig in and get one more stop and hang on to this lead they're setting up the screen not a whole lot of room there on that screen pass as it just never developed so the most crucial decision right now for the offensive coordinator right it's a fourth down that you've got to come up with you're not in field goal range you need this completion where is your best one-on-one matchup on the field right here trailing by a touchdown this fourth down opportunity is Gant it's incomplete and they desperately needed to keep that drive going and they couldn't make the connection the give to the back he's on the way down to the 27 ydd line and they are threatening defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense moving closer to the Red Zone it's at the 27 on first down might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 really nice stop there from this C year leader timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible ball spotted at the 27 they're facing a third and long to try to keep their hopes of a touchdown alive they'll keep it on the ground to keep this clock moving [Applause] [Music] [Music] and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to saved him with his foot it's good and they'll push that lead out a little further you know it's funny in an age where there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing the good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter by kicking that field goal you've now made it a two-possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up oh the last thing you want to do here is give up a big return pin them back and then the defense can just stop them from scoring a touchdown on the run from inside own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the orange have the ball back and ready to go to work throws to the tight end holds it in makes the stop at the 33 but it's a 15yd gain I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing game they'll hurry to the line with the clock still running got to save every precious second and the spike stops the clock offense gets set for second down looking for a man it's mcord and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a chance if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long try to convert through the air a deep throw as the clock winds down and the ball
