left wait the senior from Kansas the reigning Big East Player of the Year and Setter of the year but notably was not named the preseason biggies player of the year that went to her teammate Nora CIS here is CIS with the swing Northern Iowa trying to generate their first real Attack of the match a double double against Nebraska that was a really Sensational game Steph went five sets you saw kraton really get into the match in sets three and four that third set just a a really terrific college volleyball match what did you what did you make of that one as it applies to kraton and also as it applies to Nebraska one of the real headline teams in the country this year and Martin as you said started off kind of slow in that game and then we saw her and CIS really be able to take over and just prove themselves as one of the best Dynamic Duos of outside hitters known everyone Harper Murray Lindsey crowy those are known names in the outside hitter World fer had the swing for Northern Iowa but it's another point to kraton and the Blue Jays off to a Bright Start early fer once again on the left side with the swing and then the block for the Panthers will add us Northern Iowa led by Bobby Peterson the resumés of these coaches for both sides and really throughout this event would have LinkedIn just lighting up 25 years for Peterson at Northern Iowa she's LED this program to 20 wins in 20 different Seasons during her tenure and oh by the way she will Coach in her e 800th game later this weekend we expect anyway when Northern Iowa takes on Rice another point for the Panthers this time off the block and it comes from Olivia chigle sized by kraton but they're using the block chigle the senior a fifth year senior LED this team in blocks last year B the swing on the left side for Northern Iowa and there is outside in that case and not the block of reinard in the middle Reinhardt this season now with 29 blocks to her name kraton this time goes to their right side and that's ja Johnson the red shirt freshman from Kansas with the point Johnson was was another pin hitter that released in the game against Nebraska earlier this week Kendra weight back behind the service line mentioned her accolades from last season but like the coaches in this one her resume is already just filled with accolades through her career another point to kraton this time fite she is one of the big players to watch for the Blue Jays definitely she plays six rotations her defense has really stepped up she carries a huge serve receive load for the team she was attacking front row back row and blocking a slide solo at very key times and maybe the size match up might just show itself a little great for this program in the top time top 10 rather for kills all time and out of the timeout it is a point to kraton NE Northern Iowa rather just a little bit out of sorts defensively but yep and as you said she's been that preseason player of the year she's not someone that's flown under the radar but she's also just continued to develop as a more Dynamic player really embracing attacking out of the back row really embracing the server seed and defense load as she came back last year from her injuries scoring run continues for CR win seasons and you see the four-time Big East Coach of the Year also a three-time national Coach of the Year Award winner the resumés again between these coaches this weekend will just make your ey pop with all the awards and success CA you talk about extracurriculars on your resume there's one for you and she truly is the face of kraton volleyball she put them on the map and it is it is her passion it is what she loves and that shows in her being the ABCA president where she's not just promoting college volleyball not just promoting kraton volleyball but promoting volleyball as a whole across all spectrums in the nation has a chance to reach the five just since 2012 this program really has taken a big step up under her leadership and her team stepping up before her eyes right now with if there were any thoughts of either The Hangover from the big game against Nebraska on Tuesday night or maybe a trap with kraton looking ahead to Sunday's game against Louisville they have uh put that to rest in these early moments though part to the block that time go cross inside the block she will find her Rhythm as this match goes on Bard's on the preseason all MVC team she was a second team member of the allconference team a year ago and this is going to be a point to Northern Iowa that's one of the ones where you talk about way it ended up being Reinhardt in the net trying to save it big swing there from Martin with power from Overland Park Kansas second straight year that she has been on the preseason all Big E team banovic back behind the service line and fer with the swing for Northern Iowa but it's off Target love the set Choice there by [Applause] Booth Matty banovic transferred to Katon from Penn State enrolled in January so has been a member of this program for several months now as she commits the service error one of two real headline transfers coming into this kraton program along with Elise gel at Kentucky two really talented players and in this day and age Steph in the transfer portal is Northern Iowa scores with Lily dyra portal if you can go get two players of that quality that really gives you a great chance to be a successful team like kraton hopes to be this year well I think that's the way to use the transfer portal success Y is they just picked up a couple pieces of the puzzle to level up just a little bit after a very successful season last year just get that little puzzle pie that name sounds familiar it's for good reason she's playing against her mother in this game Kirsten Bernthal Booth the mother of Reese Booth to the stadium now this year um at each venue what the challenge is about and the results of it and that's definitely something new for the officials makes our job easier what the situation waston looking to go up five here with merer behind the service line but and they will as a matter of fact that swing sophomore from Iowa I like the decision there from Hartman to go down the line we talked about challenging the block of weight as opposed to the big middle block from kraton another swing for Northern Iowa this time from the right side it was dyra again but it's another attack error and another point to the Blue Jays they're ahead six and sometimes when you get in these top 10 matches you know the game plan I think una is making all the right decisions it's just a matter of execution real opportunity here for ginger but well handled by [Music] uni and to Hartman on that swing High hands high hands and Hartman was able to execute Jinger denied oh what a pancake there from Hartman to keep Northern Iowa in the point but Ginger puts an end to that with authority that time but to no avail eventually Martin behind the service line chigle with the big swing but it was denied by kraton in the Northern Iowa out of sorts couldn't keep the play alive and another seen them jump out to a four win two loss record they've hit 250 over those opening six matches not quite up to that level so far today a negative hitting percentage and Steph you were saying in that break that you think it's a matter for the Panthers of getting their middles a little bit more involved in this one yeah I think their outsides are where they live and die all of their pin hitters however if they do not establish the middle it's going to make those pin hitters lives a lot harder to hit against this great block of kraton just great reactions defensively there by Northern Iowa including from Powers the lero can she chase this one down not quite fard also running after it set and you mentioned the hustle plays it is going to be the digs by Powers the long rallies getting some of those wins that's going to put you and I back back into this match maybe they could hope for a few more of those too to get Martin you'll always take an easy pointer to when you're down you talked about it though that's the identity of this Northern Iowa Bunch right is playing sound defensively making they dig everything as what people say so maybe that is the recipe for them to get back into this one they've always been a scrappy gritty team that's always been the identity of you and I volleyball and this Katon are huge middle blockers and we've seen them so disciplined so far in set one yeah least getsinger there with the block the 6'4 Wisconsin native who like we mentioned spent the last four years of her career playing down the road here from Louisville at the University of Kentucky so she's trained to play her best game in the Louisville gym right that's right I I'm sure she was ready to play today when she saw some Cardinal head logos around town in the arena turned out to be a reasonably comfortable opening set for them Sky mun back behind the service line now the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Junior and this time off the block Northern Iowa is able to score through Fowler that so here's Aaron Powers previously played in her career at UAB but a sensational player for Northern Iowa [Applause] [Music] another big swing and another kill for Nora sis five kills now for CIS on the afternoon working her way to yet another double figure day in the kill category you and I trying to make it interesting late Fowler with a Hardy swing crosscourt to get a kill herself right now those are the booth was checking out booth there as she went back behind the service [Applause] line Point here to Katon and now they're two away career in 2021 and 2022 was the Big East tournament MVP that 2021 season according to volleyball magx azine she was the national freshman of the year just one of the many awards that decorate the resumes of these kraton play two matches a year ago has stepped into a much larger role this year Lily dyster the sophomore from Iowa walkie Northwest High School coming into the game Destiny nadam Simpson in a big match like this give her the ball Adam Simpson a all Big East freshman team member a year ago set point here for the Blue Jays it'll lead ad Dom Simpson again phenomenal dig by Powers but an opportunity for kraton getsinger with the mistake but it works out not sure she meant it but that will end the first set kraton cruising here in Louisville but northern or E that have made both of those programs given rather both of those programs high expectations coming into 2024 Northern Iowa out of that break with some energy and Cassidy har the antenna and wait can kraton match that energy out of the break they do here Olivia hman freshman from Nebraska playing in just her third set this season coming in to serve and there you see the height advantage and the size Advantage for kraton coming to fruition ryanh Hart involved was able to finish [Applause] down this time you and I able to score off the block really the game in many ways in my mind Steph has been dictated by those midds for kraton and Northern Iowa just finding a little bit of success like you said earlier just swinging as hard as they can and hoping for the best well and you saw again there four hitters as an option for you and I and I think that's going to be really important down the stretch to keep these kraton midds busy on the Block and have four hitters coming at them from all directions at any given time 100 career kill for Kiara Reinhardt of the kraton Blue Jays fifth year player last season finished in the top 10 in the Big East in hitting Aces and blocks per set set another Sensational return a [Applause] and Martin that time great set there set but she was able to get hands on that ball on the run and not go under the net Ava Martin three kills so far today hitting 375 with a pair of [Applause] digs fower terrific flying dig from banovic and CIS just too much on it got under it a little bit as here's ree Booth behind the service line once again and Johnson for kraton to [Music] score Johnson already making an impact in her first season playing in this program as a right and the Blue Jays eeking out in front in set number two as you see Johnson and getting are over there as well but Johnson with the contact kraton we talked about the size advantage that over 790 digs in her career as a nitty lion up over 80 already this season with kraton there's a misc by the Blue Jays to give you an eye the right side early in the second set valard continues to lead the way for this team with those seven kills CIS is denied they'll go to her once again and this time she finds the angle you can see the point at which she is contacting the ball she's not only touching up and above that block but she has so much power and great location bringer was the one back behind the service line here for kraton to put the ball in play dyster the swing and there's Bry singer hitting the deck sis off hands able to score and that's just the UNA defense time fer out of the back row with the attack here's CIS and this time the block of Northern I position instead of we see most teams do it from the labero position and we'll see Elena Scott on Sunday there's Lexi Rodriguez from Nebraska fantastic Setters on that second ball kraton uses their middle blockers especially getsinger here and we saw her set sis on that last play different Dynamic we've seen her go over in two we've seen her back set successfully but maybe not planned at the end of the first set and it's it's an interesting different look um for where to run the second ball when the setter digs a point right and while kraton three points up here in a set to the good already there have been a a few moments where they haven't been quite as neat and tidy as coach Booth maybe would prefer them to be albe it they're playing on again and Sydney golden steps behind the surface line getsinger blocked by the [Music] Panthers I think blocking us into that hole as we saw Hartman and the ball goes down fast and powerfully there's Martin off hands able to score for the Blue Jays we've talked a lot about noris cis's scoring totals AA Martin starting to climb the scoring standings as well that's her fourth kill second for kraton today [Music] [Applause] [Music] andma Zigler back behind the service line for kraton from Northern Iowa set Grace Makoto back behind the service line here for un and I Fowler The Target just took something off that one off speed for kraton to deal with maybe a chance here for the Jays it's Martin sent back Martin again sent back and Northern Iowa ties it at 11 the displine of straight down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] twice it's Fowler to score once again for you and they've taken the lead can they handle and maintain this lead and they will add to it out of the timeout it never hurts to add some blocking it can help get your offense going we see rewards here with two in a row and getting we've talked about needing to vary the offense points in different ways that's what the block can give you as well Casey reworks the grad transfer from Drake playing in her fifth Collegiate season making a big impact when you need a point you go to nor assist Martin with the swing opportunity here for un and I they go to fower did that take a touch it did not it's an attack [Applause] error fer had to come in acrobatically and athletically to get that over the net little more conventional this time Martin hitting the deck and kraton just had to get it over chance for you and I and it's going to be a point to you and [Applause] I and something more effective in set two unfortunately though service error here from power is on Q the wrong kind so far for either of these sides but you always worry especially as it develops and continues maybe one team tries to take a more aggressive approach behind the service line here's a little mistake from fer can you and I recover they do getting over from chigle but a real opportunity here for kraton and kraton goes to the right side with Johnson who hit it powerfully to give the Blue Jays the lead quite as loud today as we're used to is you can really hear the contact on some of these hitters and it's impressive yeah this neutral sight game certainly not filled to the brim with fans like we would expect tomorrow night and Sunday afternoon as well tomorrow afternoon I should say to be specific fer with the swing and Northern Iowa pulls back even at 15 Bard's doing a great job this tied for the game lead with nine kills a piece for either side Johnson had to wait on that ball to get it [Applause] over fer did not have to wait and she won't have to wait to be awarded the point either net violation on the kraton [Music] Block it's a proud team a proud program and despite the high standing of kraton you knew that Northern Iowa would have this kind of response at some point over the course of the match the question with the score even at one set a piece and I think you can tell that just by their demeanor even in that first game they were losing pretty significantly for most of the first but they didn't Flinch they kept doing the right things we talked about that they were making the right decisions they just weren't necessarily executing and then you've seen a lot more execution in this second set and it's [Music] working Booth hits it over for you and I gives a huge opportunity up and that's a deadly combination just feels like in this set kraton has taken a punch or two from Northern Iowa but they're still standing maybe ready to throw a few punches of their own they'll need better delivery than that and Northern Iowa is going to land a blow themselves to stay alive and keep this thing [Music] going but comes back with a service error that's starting to show itself a little bit more in this set two total they've both been in this set and I think it's paying off they're keeping kraton's offense a little bit more on their toes it's going to be a violation against kraton to give another point to Northern Iowa back behind the service line here for un and I and the Panthers not quite able to respond to that one as Kendra weight went over her head to score since the opening points of the match and that just opens up that slide for getsinger look for her to use that on one of the next couple plays to finish off this set serve receive issues for Northern side for un and I fard also a senior but from Minnesota those the leading lights for these teams so far but kraton trying to lead their way to a two set cushion despite this Valiant fight from sis not only takes the big swings for kraton she also does the little things which Aces aren't necessarily little things but right when they needed it right when the game was close in crunch time sis stepped up with two Aces right there back to back kills per set starting to get her rhythm going to complement fow's success Northern iow was going to need a little bit more of it but time might soon run out on them here in set number two Ginger with the kill of option Elise getsinger with double digit kill totals in four of the six games that crate has played this year a little bit quieter in that category today but of impact a moment ago you and I trying to answer trying to stay alive conly have three hitters in the front row but they do fit it in off of service Eve and it's been very successful today flying out of the back row there was Nora sis with authority I think we said it before when the game booths game planets it's working pretty well so far I wouldn't go away from it that one just off the tape [Applause] fer Martin and Martin scores to put the blue Nebraska on Tuesday night with that double double leading the way once again hopefully leading her team to Victory from her point of view hopefully but Northern Iowa has had a lot to say in this second set right now they can't get it over this block they finally do but it is an attack error out of play and kraton takes set number two despite had a 24th consecutive Victory following a loss after they fell to Nebraska on Tuesday night it's kraton in control but we saw a lot of fight from you and I in set two might yet be more in set three as we resume play following the intermission and it's it's going to be you and I on the board right out of the gate they went to chigle who's starting to heat up just a little bit of an explanation man when I played I'm going to show my age here you lied about those things you said of course I didn't touch the net but now with the challenge system I love how the coaches can rely on that Honesty from their players and not waste a challenge in a critical [Music] moment it's another points to Northern Iowa match they were below zero in the hitting percentage kraton hitting wonderfully over 300 at 310 to this point here's Martin with precision and power down the middle to put kraton on the board for the first time in set three noon for Kendra weight to lead all players you see AA Martin with the sixth kill of her afternoon but she backs it up with a service error to add to the Northern Iowa Early lead here in set three there's Martin out of the back row looking to atone for that mistake Northern Iowa goes to Hartman and it was deflected so from kraton telling coach they did touch it here's Ginger and Elise Ginger trying to stop the bleeding a little bit here for with getsinger going all the way to the far right pin for the slide kinger with four kills and four blocks four for 10 with a pair of Errors Housman back into the game to serve and that's just a misc from Caitlyn selner you see that on Peterson's face that oh that was the right idea but the execution is just not crisp with the middle connection [Applause] today Katon with an ace to tie it back at four and in the Seesaw of momentum you just wonder if kraton might be due for 1:00 on Friday kids are in school [Music] [Applause] that would uh go go under the title of other duties as assigned on the job description all hands on deck for a neutral game at 1:00 and we just saw that slide off of serve receive again from you and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I quick thinking there by weight but well handled defensively by un and I and that pass from weight just a little bit off Target for Reinhard might give you and I the opportunity Bry singer had to chase it deep to keep it alive sis dealt with by Powers this is a good rally between these [Applause] two sis again Powers had to go to the floor assist one more time to get the point for kraton took a while rally great defense on both sides but then great off system swings from both teams outside hitters that was in that's an ace for kraton to add to their scoring run that start to the season for SMU you talk about the ACC being talented having quality teams with the likes of Louisville and pit Miami with a big win earlier this year add SMU into the mix now seemingly they're going to be a power player in this league throw murderer roow yes what a great conference season we have upcoming for the ACC that used to not necessarily be a Powerhouse volleyball conference I definitely conference realignment maybe has dividends for sports other than football as it turns out although it'll be interesting to watch over the course of the ACC season how those long travel days make a difference going for the East Coast teams to go out to the West Coast likewise for the West Coast team this time they're telling coach Booth they did not touch it it was called a touch the ball landed out we've had one kraton on a major run now 90 as it [Applause] stands make it 10 for the Blue Jays looking to run away with set number three branh Hart with the block might be the longest Stanford oh by the way Kentucky and Louisville set to do battle later on in the season as well it's been just so thrilling and exciting Steph to see so many top tier teams going up head-to-head with each other and let's talk quickly that most of those in the regular season a sport certainly on the rise in terms of attracting fans and viewership and interest from around the country and Louisville hoping by the way as you and I gets a point back to try and well that game against Nebraska that you alluded to a 22,000 seat venue where we're broadcasting this game to you from today that would be quite the environment quite the occasion for all of colle college volleyball but particularly Louisville volleyball if they were able to get a crowd like that and we saw it a few times last year that was the preseason nonconference hype last year was the outdoor match at Nebraska the big crowd that they bought sellout crowds and that hasn't been just the The Fad so far this year but I think with the final four being here in December I think it would be huge for a sellout week it would just set the tone for the rest of the season and maybe give the college volleyball World a little preview of what might be to come when the national semi-final and the championship game are played here come her team certainly and like you've mentioned all broadcast step the execution has been there they're making the right choices often just not able to get the outcomes that they would have wanted they get the outcome they want here though with another point out their opponents that they will see tomorrow at 1:30 in the afternoon this nor Iowa Squad and of course they'll have an eye on wide on that ball love that she's coming behind weight in transition there really opening things up for those pin hitters but just a little bit wide on the swing so after the long scoring run for kraton Northern Iowa on a little run of their own here can they keep it going they cannot off the Block it's nor assists wait with a little bit of an ugly set there as she sis hitting 267 to this point today a player when she hits well has a high hitting percentage this team is really [Applause] [Music] difficult that was a terrific sequence there that results in a Northern Iowa point dyra in the end should have tried to recycle it off the uni block and give kraton time to set up offense here's Fowler well dealt with by weight defensively and then kraton gets the point Fowler the [Music] Panthers with a point back and great set there from Rees booth on her way Sydney golden to serve for un and I here's Martin and that was out just pass the line from Ava Martin just to stop the run and try to finish this match on a high note instead she goes to [Applause] getsinger and it's a point to kraton the swing there from rewards offt [Music] Target under coach Booth's leadership this team has really taken a big step forward after some early bumps and bruises after she took over the program started her career as a head coach LED them to some top finishes in the NJCAA National Tournament and then was awarded from that success awarded the job with kraton went through some early bumps but has now turned this into a perennially winning program that the coaches have in each other that the kids have in the coaches and I think that really shows in the replays these coaches are relying on their team to tell them what they're seeing and what they're feeling on the court and it's paid off [Applause] [Music] getsinger hammered that ball to score for kraton little bit inside the pin is get dinger's bread and [Applause] butter wait she's done that a couple of times in this match calling her own number whether to bite with her and leave ging her oneon-one or to leave weight [Applause] alone another point to the Blue Jays chigle with the attack error and kraton getting very close to a win in straight sets over Northern [Applause] Iowa it's weit again in there from weit last year's round of 16 in the NCAA tournament where Louisville emerg with the win based on this I see it as a big offensive battle I think the midds are going to be the up to play they're all six rotation players but we're seeing these slides from guing getsinger we know the confidence that the lers have in Cara cresy scoring out of the middle that's going to be a huge difference and then I really think the blocking kraton's block has showed up tonight and that can be a big difference in a top 10 match comes off the bench and makes a difference once again for kraton three kills for her tonight or this afternoon it's hard to tell inside no good skylights in the um Center two points away for kraton to uh sweep in this [Music] one again to nice block touches from reinard Martin out of the back row Hartman for Northern Iowa texbook perfect swing there from Hartman that ball Liberty Iowa played every set of the season last year her first Collegiate season for un Andi a rising softmore to be sure been held a little bit quiet today well I say that but I look at the Statue she's got 10 kills so that's my bad Cassidy Hartman for not recognizing your success today 10 kills for Hartman to go along with nine Diggs she's been one of the leaders for you and I closing in on a double double she's been one of those players that hasn't been flashy though it doesn't surprise me that we haven't really recognized her 10 kills she's done a good job of going off the block making those deep shots in transition that that don't get the the crowd reaction but they still score a [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] point attack error from nadam Simpson as Reese Booth steps behind the service line Martin well dealt with by Powers un and I's got to get it over though it's going to be an opportunity for kraton here where do they go they go to [Applause] reinard and nadam Simpson you saw there the labero banovic shouting for her teammates to the in to give kraton this set point opportunity well that was that communication kraton tends to run that second ball out of the middle but the middle had just run a slide so banovic stepped up and took control is it in it's not it's a point to kraton and despite the lack of reaction on the court that's it now they acknowledge it now they realize that kraton has defeated UN in a sweep to open up this 2024
