Riverwind Casino Simply the Best Ted Layman how we doing sir I'm doing fantastic cannot complain we got uh the trickle of college football content continues right I mean just what you think we you were sitting there going okay maybe we're going to have to wait till SEC media days for a couple things to talk about I actually had to cut things out of the rundown because we have listen ladies and gentlemen we're not talking about the Jake Rosenberg partnership until Wednesday's episode we'll work that in there somewhere we we got what I believe is one of our favorite things each and every year Ted the updated Heights and weights on the updated roster and our overreaction we spend I would say a silly amount of time diving into each and every player but before we get into the updated roster I did want to check on you it appears you did strike a nerve your comments about uh the SEC teams over the last three to five years not accomplishing much especially with LSU fans I feel like you made some new friends down in in the state of Louisiana but yeah apparently it it does just mean more my goodness how are those mentions Bud well here's the thing I would say 90% of the comments didn't even watch the clip apparently um and really don't understand the context of what I'm talking about so I think that is going to continue for sure because I've yet to see anyone chime back with the last time Old Miss won a sec championship I haven't seen that you know I there's there's a lot of things that I still I'm looking for the accountability and it's still not there you know so it's they could keep talking and keep throwing stuff at me but the fact is the fact okay there's one coach in the sec's won a sec championship one that's it so I mean that get mad at me for that I mean it's just how it goes it was interesting to see all of the fan bases kind of uniting against you yeah that was that was an unexpected surprise that I kind of enjoyed yeah well hey you know it's probably going to continue to be that way and it goes back to the the point that you made the only thing you can do is go Inn football games right it's all you can do and it's all you could do I guess it it certainly didn't hurt I I feel like in all seriousness that clip was the first time a lot of SEC fans have been exposed to our podcast so even though it appeared to make several people a little angry my My Hope Is that those SEC SEC fans will check out the podcast for the full conversations we we have because it is kind of hard to get the entire context of our conversations on here in two minute Clips but my hope is that some people that got very angry at you for what you said in the clip my hope is that that will have them checking it out more often you know we'll see perhaps I bet they will oh roster updated Heights and weights Ted I'll give you the floor first as you went through it what really stood out to you well I was I was checking out the defense and couple of backers putting on weight I I think is great like not all weight that you put on is created equal I a guy like Kip Lewis who is incredibly lean he's like a three or 4% bodyb guy has a difficult time putting weight on he put seven PBS on and like that's when he put seven PBS on that's seven pounds of muscle there ain't nothing else that he's putting on uh so it's really good weight he leis Carter put on some good good weight I was kind of shocked and we had talked about this before you know Kobe McKenzie he he came in um I I wouldn't say that he was overweight but he slimmed down and athletically I think it helped him a lot he was moving a lot better and he's put weight back on and you know I don't know when exactly all that weight has gone on but from what I've seen of him recently he's still moving really good so I I think that he leaned up and put good weight back on that is that was the number one in the linebacker group that was the number one number that jumped out to me was 241 for Kobe McKenzie because I felt like when we saw him in Spring ball it was as witchy as we had seen him look since he had gotten Oklahoma and I thought a lot of it had to do with him being a little leaner so I'm going to assume just like you mentioned that that is good lean mask that he put back on but overall it's clear Brent vinals Zack allly Jerry Schmidt they wanted the linebacking core as a whole heavier Ian because across the board Ted all the numbers are up and if you if you want your guys you think about the modern linebacker that like 225 230 range all of these guys are headed north of that eventually so so it's clear that this was a big point of emphasis for that room as a whole yeah and you know it's just it's um we've talked about it everyone knows it's going to be a long season it's going to be a physical season and you put on good weight you know it's going to help those guys stay healthy be more durable over the Long Haul because I you start to lose some of that that muscle mass during the season when it's harder to lift and you know you're just getting beat up so often so you've got to really do a good job in the offseason putting on that good weight and then hopefully it can sustain you through the season um yeah we're getting bigger we're bulking up in the right right places you know dline I Grayson Holton continues to put weight on I'm really excited about him I think he's got a chance to do some real damage this year and you got to imagine you know we still got some time hopefully by the time we kick off in the fall he's knocking on the door of that three bills number and you know what I love about it is is at least from what I've seen of him from the beginning as he's put on weight he hasn't Lo lost any of the ability to run and that's what I really like about him is his quickness his explosiveness the only thing that he was lacking a size and at 291 playing that three technique I don't I wouldn't say that he's undersized anymore I think 291 could especially since he's a low center of gravity guy I think that's probably a really good number for him so is it ideal no you you want to see that number start with the three and and I completely understand people that look at that and go 291 seems a little light but not all 2 91s are created equal and the important part for Grayson hton and what stands out for him as compared to the rest of the group is is the twitch the suddenness the quickness the question becomes is that a291 that's really explosive and really Twitchy because if you have explosion and technique you can play it that way if you're a heavy-handed strong explosive guy that plays with good hand placement and good pad level you can play it that way the question becomes does he put it all together at 291 does he play with great technique does he play with does he play with great explosion if he does he'll be fine if he doesn't Ted you and I both know what's gonna happen he's gonna get rolled off the football in the sou Eastern Conference that's just what will happen so that's the question for me is yes it is it's not where I want him to be but it is a step in a good direction him being over 290 Pounds you don't want him to be sloppy you don't want him to have bad weight but if he's going to play at that size man you better play with great technique and you better be an explosive guy yeah yep and we'll see I mean I think that's that's part of the beauty of a guy like him and maybe even a guy like David Stone when you start light and work your way up like you can't have you can't play high with bad technique when you're really light you get blown off the ball so you have to learn really quickly pad level hand placement punch all those things you have to really dial in on the technique and then you know by the time you add 25 pounds and you're still playing with that same technique that you had to use when you were lighter you become an ass kicker really really quickly so I like the way they're headed um David Stone 294 295 I think that's good for him I saw him at the champu barbecue which was in June and I it's I think it's always good when you see D lineman that look lighter than they are you know it's not it's not just bad weight he looks he looks really good he looks he looks like he's in great shape so uh you throw uh Dominic Williams in there at 320 and uh dejon Terry at 323 I like where we're at I I just imagine you looking at Dominic Williams with the 3919 next to his name and dejon Terry with the 323 next to his name and you just letting out a slow chuckle or just like a nice little smirk yes just a just a slow motion fist pump no it is you you look at those two guys and we talked a lot about Jaden Jackson throughout the spring and I still fully anticipate him being a big part of the defensive line rotation but the fact that he's up to 300 pounds Dominic Williams and dejon Terry right where you want him at right that 320 around that 320 number you you're feeling a lot better about the first group of D linemen when you're just looking at the weights next to their names yeah the question becomes when you get to you know series at 295 and strong at 290 and Sanders at 295 like those depth guys along the defensive line that's where you start going okay can those guys hold up if we really need them and I I guess the same could be said for you know for David Stone and Jaden Jackson we haven't seen those guys play any college football but we we know where the talent level is at with those two I I like seeing some bigger numbers against next to the guys names that I know that are going to play significant roles but I do think the the depth question when it comes to the interior the defensive line it it's still kind of an interesting one for me yeah yeah no I agree with you um I'll be fascinated it's one of the things I'm most looking forward to come fall Camp is to see how that rotation kind of lays out like who are going to be your first two guys who's going to be your next two guys I mean if you've got if you have a solid six guys in a defensive line rotation I mean you're in a pretty good spot you know you can you can it gives you like three little rotations through a a long series and then you get your starters back in in the critical moments but just to see how that unfolds but yeah the size that we've added in the front SE seven you can look over at the edge as well with some guys putting on some weight I think we're we're in a much better spot than we were think back three four years ago we're in a really good spot compared to them looking at that that group of edge guys Ethan Downs at to 265 he's just been stuck there right I mean it's I feel like he's fluctuated some but that number's been the same for like three years it feels like it felt like okay is he gonna be a 250 guy or is he gonna be a 285 guy yeah and he's just kind of found this sweet spot at 265 I great number I know exactly what we're gonna get from that guy physical got to play a million miles an hour but the the rest of the group is interesting and I think number that's standing out to everyone is PJ up to 251 PBS and it feels like there's still a lot more room on that frame but I'm really excited to see what he looks like during Camp because the the measurables just the physical tools the frame just don't have don't have many guys like that around so I I'm really really excited to see does there is there an improved level of play on the field that comes with the added the added mass for PJ yeah yeah and you know just talking about the dline rotation it's the same with the edge guys you know Ethan DS that's the one guy that I think we real feel real confident with with what we're going to get out of him he's going to be a starter for you uh in in most of their packages and then um you know PJ obviously but you know if if we could get um uh why am I drawing the blank Edge guy came in last year at the end of the year had like three sacks um not in three pressures I guess in the Arizona game I was about to say three sacks our Mason Thomas or Mason Thomas um I don't know why I couldn't think of that I if if he's healthy and he's ready to go and PJ continues to progress uh you know and you got some guy you got Willard who came in as a trans for portal guy he you could have a good four or five man rotation at the edge spot as well going to need it I I don't know if he's goingon to be a factor at all but the fact that Nigel Smith is already up to 267 is noteworthy yeah big just you can't have too many big humans in a 64 267 pound true freshman it's a good start really good start a good start he's one of those guys that you start to wonder it's like okay either speed up or slow down with the weight gug you're you're going to find yourself in a weird position where where are we going to play him we gon to bump this guy down inside or is he gonna stay out there on the edge Force did anything with the secondary just kind of rounding out the discussion on the roster updates with with the defense did anything in the secondary really stand out to you Bowman's 200 lb which I feel know with how explosive he is I feel like that's that's a solid weight for Billy I guess it's noteworthy de Malone switch numbers he's number four instead of number 12 now with Harrington moving on so that is just we luckily we haven't had to call any games with him wearing number 12 so we'll just this will be the first time we really memorize it but you know he checks the size box at 6 foot 204 really I think that the thing that stands out to me is you look at the defensive backs and there's no outliers as far as guys you just feel are way too small yeah which is a good which is a good thing like Woody Washington feels like the slightest guy at 511 195 and a guy that's played a ton of football so I I think that that just goes to show how they've emphasized size and length over these last couple years when it comes to the guys that they're bringing in the program in the secondary yeah and it go it's the same thing and I mentioned about the dline group or the front seven in general yeah the secondary we've gotten taller we got more length and and more size so I I across the entire defense I feel really good about where everyone's at at the moment boganowski 62211 come on man that's true freshman stay calm Ted stay Cal love it clearly everyone had an eye on what the o line weights were looking like and my goodness does one number Stand Out Fetti weu 339 pounds and he moves good right like he so it it's interesting because let's just be real That's Heavy 339 is heavy any way you slice it it just is however I did have some conversations during the Spring that they felt you know there are some things especially with his lower body like that they he had not been his Potential from a strength standpoint had not been fully tapped and it sounds like this dude's legs are just massive and that with what they've been doing in the weight room that he's just the the legs have just gotten real strong and real thick so they feel like it's a it's a good 339 because when we out we went out to Spring ball Ted he was he was heavy but he was not a heavy guy that looked fat like he carries it really well I said it multiple times he looks like he was made in an offensive guard lab so the only thing when I see a number like that is what's the tempo of the offense going to be like because I don't care how good a shape you're in if you got to play 80 whatever snaps at 339 that's that's hard it's just hard especially if you're playing fast so I I still think they're going to use quite a bit of tempo with with Seth Latrell and Joe John Finley running things offensively but that's going to be one of your starting guards you're clearly not going to slow everything down based on one guy but that's just that's a lot to ask a guy at 340 pounds to play between 80 and 990 snaps that's one of those things I just went down a rabbit hole of thought when I saw that number well I guess it depends how strong his legs have gotten and how good he's playing is if he's blowing people off the ball we're running I mean I like Tempo I don't like tempo as a cover of of something that you're in inefficient at or inadequate at and often times it's Run game if we can't move people off the football we got to get lined up fast get them discombobulated get them where they're not down in their stances and we can get some movement and run the football if you can line up and slow it down and and grind people apart in the front seven and run over the top of them then it's a much better way to play football um especially whenever you're you're going to be playing to a really good defense that you have this year but I'm with you um it's just I don't know I'm excited about to see see if he can translate that onto the football field and I you know I take my um my cues from you on that and it sounds like even even before that he was moving really well as a puller as a guy that's kicking out or whatever different kind of blocks they asked him to do he is I I thought during the Spring he was the best we got so I cannot wait to see what that 339 is looking like in person when training camp rolls around you you look at some of the other o linemen Branson Hickman who all indicators are that he's going to be your starting center especially with Troy ever's in injury in the spring he's up to 301 pounds he's a guy that when you go back and you watch his tape he's never been heavy but he makes up for it with technique pad level and strength so is that the heaviest he's been yeah for sure I I can't imagine he was playing any heavier than you know 293 295 at SMU I I could be wrong but I I think that's a good number for him it's it's kind of a similar conversation to what we said about Grayson hton when it comes to Hickman is hey it's all about the technique and the explosion that you're playing with if you're playing a little lighter but I really liked seeing seon at 322 pounds I continue to believe that he's if he can put it all together and he's feeling good that he's your best option at left tackle now seeing Tarin up to 317 was encouraging because I actually he was better than I thought he was going to be during spring but I always walked away from watching him going man he just he just looks small for a left tackle in the SEC he just looks small so that 317 number is is encouraging even if he's not a starter Ted that is a guy that he's played a lot of football you know kind of been up and down he was better at Florida than he was at USC but you feel better about him if he's got to start some games if he's got to be your swing tackle you feel better about him when you see that number next to his name as opposed to like a 305 or you know 308 317 that's that's close to right where you want your your tackles in the sou Eastern conference to be yeah or at least that's where I I want them to be I don't I won want 340 pound offensive tackles I like 315 guys that can that can move yeah no I I agree with you on that um I was now Logan howand he's up quite a bit right just he's on he is he is basically the super siiz version of what my plan was he is on the express I and he moves well he's got a lot of potential he's he's got a lot of potential it's as long as he continues to work at it and stays the course I I think he's GNA be a player for you eventually but didn't play the position long I think what just played tackle of senior year in high school still learning the technique still learning how you you know just kind of the misery of the position but he's getting he's getting to where he needs to get physically from a weight and strength standpoint and and once you get there if you can marry it with the techniques that beatbo teaches you're gonna be able to play football at a pretty high level so I I loved seeing him continue to add weight because it kind of just lets me know that the guy cares that he's fully embraced this position move that he's putting all the effort he needs to put into it and he's working at it right it's a it's a work in progress he's not a guy that you know moved to offensive tackle and it just kind of happened for him overnight it it takes time but I think that I think that Logan H's going about it the exact right way now Eugene Brooks is a guy that whoa I thought he got way better throughout the spring early spring to late spring looked way better and I know he was a guy that you liked but you thought he needed to be able to trim down to move better I I will not lie I was not thrilled seeing 336 next to his name because he doesn't carry 336 like weo carries nearly 340 pounds but I'm going to save judgment until I get eyes on the young man during training camp but I always I would rather a freshman be lighter and you add weight as opposed to being heavy and having to kind of fight that battle throughout a guy's entire career and remember go back to his high school he he got really really heavy yeah he was like 360 is and then trimmed way down so it's kind of a slippery slope with him it feels like but it is is it's one of those things where hey you just got to trust Jerry Schmidt and his staff and their play that they're putting together for these young guys but yeah 336 pounds for a true freshman that's that's a substantial number but once again I will save judgment until I see him move at that weight yeah because there can easily be a body composition change and the numbers not look a whole lot different so and getting into a strength that add conditioning program like he's in now that can definitely happen yeah if he has really trimmed down leaned out but it's heavy because it's the hardest he's ever lifted in his life and he's added a bunch of lean mass then hell yeah let's go 336 but we'll see yep I thought oida 38 is a great number for him but yeah I I thought that the offensive line overall it's pretty obvious they wanted these guys to gain weight I mean it doesn't take a rocket size just to figure that out Ted you look across the board everyone's up well it's good that's what we need that's um that's one of the things that we've talked about gosh for a long time right is as a football team in general we haven't looked the same as some of the teams that we've gone up against in in your playoff scenarios and stuff like that and we're getting closer we don't have the depth right now that we need to get to but when when all is said and done and we line up with our 22 starters come this fall after after fall Camp is done I think that we'll feel really good about what we're walking on the field with running back you and I we we had talked quite a bit about it what was Taylor Tatum GNA look like 510 205 is a true freshman yeah that'll work that's about the number y that's that's about what you're looking for you've got Caleb Hicks at 213 pounds Barnes at 207 so you know sawchuck at 200 which is is a good number for yeah it's a good number was he did he start at like 185 or so I feel like yeah he's been on the leaner side by the way his brothers on the team now they look a lot alike just on the roster I was like wait those guys I was like oh Sawchuk yeah and his name's Gabe what an awesome name way to go sawchuk's brother but I I thought that you know seeing those guys it's clear that DeMarco Murray is looking for that six-foot around 210 pound type of back like that that's kind of the mold that they're looking for and really other than that Jackson Arnold 21 pounds all the wide receivers Heights weights look good yeah Ragin is really really light we knew that was going to be the case the kid can still fly at what 145 pounds there's a reason he can fly but all the other guys kind of right where they've been in their career here at Oklahoma so did anything on the offense really stand out to you B Sharp 247 good number about right yeah right around that 250 number for him no I I like what I've seen so far um you know I would like to I don't know I I like a little bit heavier backs but you know for what we're doing I I guess I think it's I think it's it's okay but and it's I feel like we're deep there but I mean I'd like to see that group continue to get bulkier Nick Anderson 64219 just built in a wide receiver lab you see that and I don't know maybe it was really old but I saw like this video mashup of him working out did you see that oh working with the the the wide receiver coach that a bunch of those guys go too yeah he was moving good moving real good when he's healthy like when you watch it it he doesn't look like he's 6'4 220 PBS no he is I I I feel like people just don't realize how much of a physical freak he is no he was really productive a season ago and seems like no one talks about him no well nobody knows and nobody cares I apparently that you know like when you start hearing people talk about like some of the Texas skill position guys it's like well hang on like does anyone remember the football game you lost last year and the guy that caught the ball in the corner of the end zone and like he's 6'4 220 pounds what do you have like 14 touchdowns last year I mean put up big big numbers and he he might be the receiver in the entire country that's flying under the radar it's like wait a second there's a 6'4 220 lb wide receiver at Oklahoma that caught double digit touchdowns last year why is that not something that's talked about all the time it is a little strange yeah all right let's get to call your shot we asked you guys what stood out most to you on OU updated roster I like this one that comes from Mark Stacy Mark Stacy II he says I love that the boys are putting on wait and preparing for war the SEC wants a fight and we're going to give them one preparing for battle that's right long season physical season it's going to be tough week in week out you know you just you got to continue to prepare they've done a done a good job with it and then this was kind of you know I would say not not negative but King Charles says only three defensive lineman weigh at or above 300 lb that's I I think that's fair and I assume that a lot of U fans looked at that defensive line group especially the interior and said better but probably not where you want to be quite yet but better yeah you know I you know how I am I don't get caught up in it nearly as much um do you would you in a perfect world would you like to have a bunch of guys that are 320 330 lbs yeah perhaps um but I with what we've got I I guess I'm not in where I just want the guys that we have right now to be at sloppy body weights it doesn't really fit what venables does you know he is a multiple front M like Blitz from different angles stunt penetrate on some there's a reason why his defenses typically lead the NCAA and tackles for loss and and sacks it's because of you know the required movement and quickness from the guys up there on the front line I I don't know I I think there's this I think there's this feeling and there's been some some years and there's some some defensive linemen in this conference that are absolutely gigantic but but I don't know I guess I'm not really worried about where we are as a defensive line I think we're we're getting closer to where we need to be it's not perfect adding a a 320 pounder in Williams like changed a lot right this this lineup of of guys would look totally different if we didn't have him in there so I guess it's not perfect but it's improving you know you what are you going to do you can't just slap together uh you know 15 to 20 pounds to add to everyone on the roster so we'll see if what they the work that they've done is good enough but yes we do need to keep acquiring bigger stronger talent and that's the goal big humans big humans can't have too many big athletic humans NCA football EA Sports NCA matter to me but it is a one of the things I like about it is it's hard to it's hard to keep up with everyone in college football with where they all are like what players are where how good are they so I think it's actually a good guide to kind of know like what all is out there so to speak who all the best players in the country are I I saw them release their top 100 players on the video game and I actually found it extremely helpful because and maybe I think the ratings are more meaningful than maybe a lot of other people do but I'm assuming that EA Sports went through a similar process like they do for Madden those ratings are not an accident these rankings are determined by people that know football coaches NFL Scouts NFL Executives so when I saw the top 100 players on EA Sports college football 25 I I do think it is a good tool to look at and go okay who's really loaded and you see Ohio state with eight of the top 100 players on the video game yeah and it kind of PES a picture of okay they have some serious Talent they always have serious talent but they've got some absolute dudes on that football team and that's why expectations are what they are for Ohio State but yeah these these player rankings they they aren't just random now some people may say well there's SEC bias or there's big bias I I don't know if that's the case or not but these player rankings are they are a product of people that know football and collecting those people's input so I I did I found them extremely useful and I found them really interesting to look at I did too especially the top 10 when the top when that's what I saw first I saw the the top 10 first and I was like oh yeah yeah I forgot Michigan is uh is loaded with talent because they have the number one player and they've got the number I think he was the number one defensive tackle he was number eight uh is it Mason Graham he is an absolute beast and then they've got another I think they've got like another two or three players in the top 100 most of them defensive guys uh so it's like oh yeah I forgot Michigan Michigan's got some players they got some dudes coming back they they aren't just a bunch of slappies right but I looking at the OU guys sters only have two players ranked in the top 100 players Danny stman is a 91 overall he is the 52nd ranked player on the game and then Billy Bowman is a 90 he is the 94th ranked player on the video game did does anyone else really have an argument to be in that conversation I think maybe you look at the wide receiver position I I don't know but it it feels like those two guys belong in that group and then maybe there's a group of guys that that have the ability to play themselves into that top 100 and maybe that's the more fun conversation is what guy is most likely to play themselves into being a top 100 guy on the video game as those rosters get updated throughout the season but it feels like those two stutsman and Bowman it feels like those are the two that belong in the conversation as of now for sure um without a doubt I I guess like if I'm if I had a guy to argue it'd probably be Dominic Williams um I think like CU because a guy like per is he's a relative unknown but he he is an 88 overall though yeah so I if he has the type of season that you and I think he can have if that offensive line comes together and Jackson Arnold gets time back there Burks is gonna have a big year because that dude can absolutely fly yeah so I I mean I would say like Burks I think should I'll be upset if Dominic Williams doesn't find his way in there if Burks doesn't find his way in there if Nick Anderson doesn't find his way in there and well if Burks and Nick Anderson find their way in there then Jackson Arnold's gonna find his way in there that's right that's right I think it it all comes together so maybe maybe Jackson Arnold will be ranked higher than Arch Manning by then maybe maybe oh you fans were so mad about that and understandably so but it is you know it is interesting that you're point about does anyone really have much of an argument I it's kind of hard to say that they do but I think we've got plenty of guys that we could go down the list that are kind of poised to jump into the national conversation right I mean on both sides of the ball I think that's fair I I think that out of all the guys one of the wide receivers and and then I don't know what how about this would it shock you if Gentry Williams was completely healthy and was arguably the best player on U's defense this season I don't even know if he's gonna start Ted but all I know is there were some moments a year ago where you and I were talking to each other going okay this kid is going to be the real deal and then his shoulder started falling off his body and he he wasn't the same player but there are some moments where he was playing at a very very high level I agree and I it's it's kind of hard to say like the best player on the defense I think it's hard to ever say a corner is the best player on your defense I because it's almost like they're in a totally different world you know like in some aspect I do think that he could end up finding himself to be the highest ranked player out there because of of what he the skill set he has at corner that's just a weird thing for me to say the corner is the best player on the on a defense um but I I don't know I hope that we say that I hope that we say anyone is the best player on our defense like that comes out of nowhere whether it's a kall Dolby who coach vbl thinks has a chance to have a incredible year at cheetah uh if we find a arason Thomas starts you know getting to the quarterback at a at a high rate if Kip Lewis you know has a couple of interceptions and he's making tackles behind the line of scrimmage like I think there's capabilities for a bunch of guys but I mean Gentry Williams does he he does seem like one of those guys that we could find ourselves at some point in the season being like you know no one's caught a ball on him yet and he's made a bunch of tackles behind the line of scrimmage because that's what I loved about him the most and you know maybe it's the reason his shoulder got destroyed but anytime they threw something quick like behind the line of scrimmage or a little bubble or tunnel out to his side no chance he was he was super aggressive coming after it we'll see it will be fun how those how those rankings are going to get updated throughout the season so what is the process on that do you have any idea not really but it happens on Madden yeah from what I understand and I'm sure that won't make guys competitive in the locker room at all I know hey the more metrics there are out out there for everyone to measure what's happening the better it's going to be great now you look at the highest ranked players on the game you mentioned that top 10 you got will Johnson at Michigan Will Campbell at LSU couple of corners and olly Gordon no will Campbell's their left tackle and he's legit oh yeah uh yeah Will Johnson's the corner Sor I was yeah olly Gordon checking in at 96 highest rank guy in the game it's a lot of respect for olly Gordon man and he was he was fantastic for them a year ago I mean he was an absolute dog for them but highest ranked player on the game Oly Gordon I saw it didn't surprise me but maybe it did surprise me I'm not sure I just I I was a little surprised that he was the highest ranked guy on the foot on on the football game yeah I he's he's such an intrigu player to me because like and and I don't like I I trust what Mike Gundy and them have done at Oklahoma State I mean they've got good coaches over there clearly but how in the world could you have a guy that's the highest ranked player in the country at college football and he's almost an afterthought to start the season till they got what three or four games in that just seems incredibly rare now maybe there and I'm sure there is a lot more to that story but it's almost like they stumbled across him last year you know what I'm saying you are you're saying what a lot of Oklahoma State fans were saying last season like how did we not why were we not giving the ball to this guy all season long I know I know no it is I I said at the end of last year I thought he was the most important player to his team in the country oh my gosh I I thought that you know what he did for that offense was just spectacular so I've come around to it yeah 96 feels right with well he's he's got great size he's got great vision like some of the cuts and things that he makes are incredible clearly has good topend speed he's got some really long runs you know 70 80 plus yards so I mean it's hard to argue with it I'm at the same time I would be shocked if he replicates the type of season he had last year yeah maybe I should maybe I shouldn't be but I don't know they got a they got pretty much everyone back yeah and Oklahoma and Texas are no longer in the conference that's true so I I I wouldn't be now I'm not sure he's gonna have the same amount of touches he had a year ago because man they now the Gundy did say he's gonna last year he didn't really start touching the ball till like the fourth game so that's true I I think I have I don't know if it's a hot take or not Ted okay but I was going through the rankings and Kelvin Banks is the 13th highest ranked player on the game he is the second ranked second highest ranked offensive tackle only behind Will Campbell from LSU and man I just do not understand how you could watch his film from a year ago and think he's the second best tackle in college football he wasn't even the best tackle on his team last season Christian Jones was he was a better player than him last year there is there's no denying that Kelvin Banks is extremely talented I'm not saying he's not but he's not the second best offensive tackle in college football or at least that's not who he's been up to this point and maybe he will put it all how long have we been told that I I don't know he had a really solid true freshman year and I didn't think he got much better yeah so that's that's where I saw it and maybe I'm just lower on him than a lot of people and I actually asked some NFL Scouts I was like what kind of grade do you have on banks some guys have a really high grade on him I I am undoubted dedly lower on him than most but I also watched the tape and I just I thought his inconsistency last year was alarming got beat a lot got push pulled a lot was on the ground a lot and that was in the Big 12 What's it gonna look like him like for him in the SEC against those Edge players week in and week out I I don't know I just I just don't think he's put that type of play on tape maybe this is the year that he does but I just I don't know man I I yeah it's it's important to be big and athletic and to move well and he does all of those things but man it's it's about blocking people and there were big stretches of last season where he struggled to block people so I I don't know what I'm missing once again maybe he puts it all together this season but with what I've seen from him on tape I mean there there's just no way you can convince me he's the second best tackle in all of college football I know I hey I'm with you i' like to think what I I like to think I know what I'm looking at when I'm watch an offensive line play yeah but I just I I'm just not seeing what a lot of people are seeing when it comes to Kelvin Banks and I also think that you do a really good job of of calling it fair with no bias and for whatever reason it's like been hammered in the head with how good Kelvin Banks is for a long time now you know and he he's I'm not suggesting that he's not any good he's he's definitely a good offensive tackle for sure but it's ju it's I don't know the the propaganda has been just over overboard it feels like U but you're right I mean this is a this is this is kind of the year for him this will be the year where they got a tough schedule he'll have some tough matchups and going to have a lot of eyeballs on him so maybe he lives up to it yeah I I will be the first one to say if he comes out and he's playing extremely high level I would say hey I was wrong guy's a baller y but that's not what I saw a year ago so we we'll see but I don't know who's gonna be playing Edge but he'll have a good test early against Michigan that defense there's no doubt about it but you you look I think one of the more interesting things about the player rankings in in the top 100 is just seeing the collection of Talent on some teams you know we mentioned the eight guys on Ohio State clearly stacked then every time you look at a list now man you got to look at how many SEC teams are on it and what Georgia and Bama both have six players on the top 100 LSU who their fan base you are their new favorite Ted LS has four players in the top 100 Old Miss has three Texas Kentucky and OU have two A&M tennessy Arkansas Missouri all have one so I'm not great at math but you add all of those up together and I think the SEC has 29 of the top 100 players in the video game you'd think it'd be higher than that you think it I I thought it would be more you know 35 to 40ish yeah but 29's still a lot for one conference yeah and I have I'd have to go back through it and scan it in depth but think you you probably get a lot of quarterbacks in there and I don't know it is interesting though it is interesting 29 of the top 100 how about shadar Sanders being the highest ranked quarterback I guess him and Carson Becker technically both 93s but shadur is one spot ahead of him on the list that EA Sports put out yeah I I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that I I'd have him definitely close but his offensive line is so horribly bad it's hard to give him like an honest assessment like if you go back and watch Colorado vers USC and I know USC's defense okay I understand that but he makes some of the most unbelievable throws I've ever seen in that game just like evading getting outside and like threading the needle into the end zone so I don't know I think that think that like a lot of things there's probably a little Marketing in there but he's de because I know there's there's and I don't know if you asked NFL Scouts about this but there's plenty of people that have him as the the highest draft drafted quarterback coming out this year he's he's got tools man yeah do you think the quote of Big 12 media day about them being everyone's Super Bowl is that going to help or hurt his ranking I mean there's some truth to it but it's not like people are gunning for them but it's not like the Super Bowl like there's a different Dynamic at play there he's on to something but he's got the wrong aspect of it I think I I would say they have created a Target on themselves so there's a difference between their target and B's Target yes B's Target is or in Georgia and you probably throw Michigan in that conversation now as the defending champs but their target is those are the big dogs let's go beat them Colorado's Target is those guys talk a lot if we go and whooped it we're gonna get a lot of attention for it let's go whoop him yeah it's like the Bama Super Bowl is hey if we all lock in play our best game maybe could we could win this thing with Colorado it's like let's see if we can beat them by 100 points it's different it's a i they do have a unique ability for a team that does that has not won games to have the other team motivated to beat them and to be really excited for the football game because may be the worst trait you could ever have for a team team you're not that good and everyone is super motivated to play you and beat the hell out of you it is literally the worst combination possible oh wow it's funny but hey you know I they've got some players they put you know they' put a you know a handful of really good players together but it's going to take way more than that and people can say whatever they want about the Big 12 without OU in Texas it is not an easy League the they may have a more difficult time this year than they did last year and they had a hard schedule last year yeah I it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were a 4 and eight team we'll see I it may be hard to get to four it's going to be really interesting to see how they get covered last year especially way that the year started with TCU it was a perfect storm last year and it was fun man it was entertaining it was it was but I I don't know I am I know this I'm gonna want to watch Colorado at least early NE they start with Nebraska is that the first game out of the gate for them or is that the second game I I don't think it's the first game out of the gate but that's going to be a big one like you can't you know who they have out of the gate dude dude who North Dakota State Ah that's right who scheduled that game that is a bad pick of a game bad oh my gosh they get North Dakota State on a Thursday night it is North Dakota State Super Bowl okay let me let me retract it yeah they get they get North Dakota State then on the road in Lincoln and then they have to go to Colorado State and remember how much fun that game was season ago oh that game that see that was that game was awesome last year and that came right did that come right after the TCU game I think it did I it's all a blur at this point yeah it is but that that's like a Matt rule you cannot lose that football game no I cannot lose that football game gotta win that one but hey if they're if they're everyone Super Bowl man they're gonna get everyone's Best Shot for what no matter what the motivation is for the opponent but it it was interesting to see shadur Sanders say that publicly and kind of frame it that way because it sounds ridiculous because they weren't a good football team or at least as the season progressed and we all realize they weren't a good football team it was it was just a weird thing to say but it it does make sense it's it's not a Super Bowl as in they were so good of a team they got to the Super Bowl it was it is a we know we're going to get a bunch of attention because we're playing Colorado and we want to smoke them that's right that's right we'll see how it ends up for him see if he can get any protection I saw one thing like Travis Hunter complaining about their offensive line on the video game as he was playing it pretty funny oh let's finish up with our that's inss ia.com as always Ted kick us off who do you have as your winner of The Weekend Paul SK about exact close to exactly one year after he was drafted he's going to be the starting pitcher for the All-Star game uh as a rookie I think he's the fifth rookie to get that he's going to be starting for the national league team and uh if you've kept up with his stuff he's been incredible he had a no hitter through seven Innings the other day and just effortless fast ball and then he's got this back door slider that is just a killer it's fun watching him pitch he is he's winning in life man he's yeah he's doing pretty well first of all absolutely nasty on the mound yep personal life's going well yes saw his girlfriend's going back to for for another year there at LSU I I see her on like the viori commercials I'm like oh hey that's Paul's girlfriend no she's uh she's made a name for herself herself didn't eat Paul but what a power couple for them it is at at first it was like is is he yeah her boyfriend or like who's the it was like Livy dun's boyfriend is pretty good at baseball right like hey yeah that's I'm pretty sure and then oh my gosh he's incredible yeah he I've just and I I know I I'm no baseball expert but the effortless velocity is maybe the most impressive thing that I've seen from him it's just great command and throws so hard and it looks like it's the easiest thing he's ever done he is also massive yeah was it like 66 240 yeah big dude big dude now I think the only the only other thing left to discuss when it comes to skines is how you feeling about that mustache I you're not a facial hair guy you're not a facial hair guy despite despite for years the listeners of this podcast demanding that beard and Ted make a return you just won't give it to him you're not a facial hair guy you refuse well I don't necessarily refuse um for whatever reason it makes the skin on my face like real itchy and dry it's just for whatever reason it doesn't work well with me but I do do not look down on it at all I got no problem with it the mustache thing has over the last couple of years has had a massive comeback will it last I don't know if I'm skin I'm not changing a thing no no no no no no no don't touch that much you you leave that mustache alone you you do you keep doing exactly what you've been doing skin everything's working yeah whatever whatever your little routine is brush that thing out before you go out in the mound whatever it is you keep doing that it's working wonders this is how good he is I can't tell you the last time I thought about the Pittsburgh Pirates I know and now I'm seeing stuff about him all the time because of him I know it he he had that no hitter through seven I think he just walked one guy uh 11 strikeouts through seven Innings and he got the win they won the game one to zero so that was nice that was nice does Andrew McCutchen still play for the Pirates I don't know he he when I think of the Pirates that's who I think of he had a hot run there for a little bit but I don't know I'm G say he still plays for the Pirates I could give it a quick Google but that's no fun yeah McCutchen of course he's still a pirate come on of course I don't know if I could handle like the the complete reversal with the Orioles doing as good as they are and if the Pirates turn it around like what do we what we do then uh do we have to start watching baseball during the regular season then I guess so I'll be watching the All-Star stuff that's I I always like the Home Run Derby and and the All-Star game that's pretty fun I just the new home run derby format where it's like basically cardio for the guys I absolutely hate it but I will watch it congrats skin keep winning it life man you're we're all rooting for you dude who do you have as your loser of the weekend um man I had to go with I had to go with Joker the jokovic man got his ass kicked in straight sets is this the the passing of the torch I'm not sure guy just had knee surgery okay all right he's get he's getting up there was he 36 it's a young man's game I watched I went to said I've gone to Wimbledon one time and now I'm just a tennis guy what's up I I was watching it was on early I was up I was like hey let's now what it was 33 in the third set and I think it was 3-3 or maybe it's 3-2 but Joker took forever he if if jokovic would have got that break where he had him they were going back and forth for a long time but he couldn't complete it I think that was like he he may have had a chance to make a run at that point but I don't know I the young kids got some attitude to go with it too some Cockiness a lot of fist pumping for alcaraz yeah I I was a fan of it this is I'm not a tennis expert I know the rules that's about it I I don't know anything about technique or anything like that I know a whooping when I see one mhm and that my friend was a whooping yeah I mean alarz was hitting the ball harder he was moving faster I mean it's so many more winners like the Precision of his shots was it just a different level than jokovic is dude there was so much hype for that final the get in prices were crazy and it was like it wasn't even close no it it honestly was it was a bit of a let down for me because I was pretty excited about it and that thing you you realize pretty early that that thing you know jokovic did not have a chance against al graslin on Sunday were you when you went were you guys in the main Court yeah Center Court was sweet how what how big is it it's big cuz it look like you're never F like none of the seats you you wouldn't feel far away if that makes sense yeah because the playing surface is probably what like all things considered about the size of a basketball court or maybe smaller it it's bigger than that because because there's there's a lot of space around the actual court if that makes sense yeah like it's like in this oval pretty wide were the ridiculously the ball boys are the W the most entertaining thing man those kids are oh they're like dude I guess they're like military trained or something it's it's this big UT like this intense thing I don't know it is but you just watch some of the stuff they do I was just sitting there chuckling watching them I was like do you really need to do you really need to do that it's pretty it's a Well oiled machine however it is they're running all over the place it's yeah it's pretty fun to watch I I only watch Tennis Majors oh that is right US Open I only watch Tennis major finals yeah maybe you know sometimes they're on in the background on ESPN stuff like that if you got the channel on I I like watching the semis and the finals typically it's a good background sport to watch tremendous just come check in every now and then especially great Point possibly you know French Open Wimbledon on early because of the time change that type of stuff but it does feel like Carlos alarz is going to be in our lives for a long long time oh yeah was he four for four in major finals he's 21 years old dude back toback Wimbledon right so I don't know I I don't think jokovic is done but I think it's a sign that they're going to be way more difficult what do you think is it is like the standard Court going to be easier for him after a knee than the than the grass and the clay where you slide a little bit I he's one of those guys where I I just think it's going to take a little time with where he's at age-wise like to get back to you know full form but alarz is just an athlete man it may just be a bad matchup for him yeah I I do think they' played I think they've played six times and I think it's three three but these last couple it just feels like alcarez is quickness his youth is a problem for him oh I know don't you know that Joe uh jok is is like that cocky little prick he's so fast he gets to everything like I hate this kid oh man let's get to my winner and loser but first three things matter in banking service off for my winner of the weekend thought about going with Dylan Gabriel was perusing ESPN bet Ted and guess who is your new pre season betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy DG how about that d g jumps Carson Beck and Quinn ERS over the weekend and is now ESPN bets betting favorite at plus 750 to win the Heisman Trophy I'm not sure we have we acknowledge just how weird this situation is it's weird it's it it continues to feel weirder and weirder and he had a really nice season for u a year ago he's got a lot of talent around him at Oregon now but a guy that a coaching staff said you know what we're gonna go with the young guy with the higher ceiling best of luck is now your pre-season favorite to win the Heisman Trophy it's just we've never really had a story like this we we had to essentially defend him for his two years at Oklahoma you know or at least that's how it felt that's how it felt I mean there there wasn't there was a lot of people that uh respected and could see how good his play was but I think this is like all things being equal and I know they're not but Oklahoma has seen Heisman level quarterback play very recently and what we saw it was good it was really good but it didn't feel like Heisman level quarterback I think that's completely fair I so I just interesting man it's just a unique situation yeah now you look at the numbers that b Nicks put in that system insane if he can replicate that it's hard to say that he won't have a great chance at it no doubt but my win of the weekend you kind of stole it a little bit but not all the way I went with Spain so first of all okay Spain wins the Euros beat England 2-1 that play at the end was crazy what is say what was that Elmo the header to prevent The Equalizer that was that was that was legit that was nuts that was cool but so you had you had that in the the goahead goal for them in the 86 minute you talk about barely just on sides that was that was beautiful that that's why they call it the beautiful game plays like that that was uh well executed there Spain but you had that and then alarz won Wimbleton and even Sergio gar won live golf this weekend in Spain how about that big Spanish weekend big Spanish weekend well I sorry when you said you had Spain I done me you you thought I was just talking about soccer I did that's okay but it's soccer it's alarz I'll even throw Sergio in there just a good good week for the Spanish and did you see algr tweeting about the soccer no I think alcarez was having some Beverages and celebrating the Victory and he basically he was firing off it felt like just drunk fan tweets and it made me like the kid even more oh that's awesome that's awesome yeah I guess that is a big weekend there I didn't even yeah wow how about that can you imagine if you're Carlos alcarez you just won your second Wimbledon by destroying jokovic and then you get to watch your soccer Squad win a massive soccer tournament where was that game the soccer game it was in Germany okay so that's that they were they were hosting the Euros but should we feel bad for England I feel like every time they I feel like every time they feel like they're going to experience true Joy it just gets ripped away from them it's socer that's how it feels they it's the soccer version of the Dallas Cowboys it's the like maybe this is the best thing in the world to do is you root against England it's the most rewarding thing in sports I've never thought of it that way you got to try it try rooting against the Dallas Cowboys I'm telling you it is oh I don't need to try okay not difficult for me and I it's personal no no nothing against Cowboys fans it's just it's it's a personal thing for me I want CD lamb to have 200 yards receiving every single game and they just come up short just barely it's awesome my loser the weekend and I'm I'm interested in your thoughts on this okay Jaylen Bronson New York Knicks I want to start by saying this him taking less money so that the New York Knicks can assemble a better team around him is awesome it's unselfish I think it shows how badly he cares about winning I think it shows that he's a competitor I love it I also I also think it's really stupid I think it's dumb because you look at it here agreed to and it's hard to feel bad for a guy that agreed to a 4-year $156 A5 million contract right it's hard like what do you mean he took less money how's that possible signs a fouryear 156 A5 million contract extension but that is $113 million less than what he would be eligible to sign a year from now so he basically when you look at it he is leaving $37 million on the table over the next three years in sure you can say that he'll be able to recoup some of that down the line sign another massive deal in 2028 or 2029 that's true that absolutely is but he's the face of the franchise he's the face of one of the most valuable sports franchises on the planet and he's playing for a discount I don't like it I I I don't like I love it but I hate it because he's one of the best players in the NBA he is an all-nba player he has brought that franchise back I just don't think he should be playing for a discount and maybe the reason I don't like it so much is it just makes me nervous for him and I love watching Jaylen Brunson play I don't want to be nervous for him for an entire season yeah because he's a small guard even though he's tough as hell but I feel like every time I'm GNA be watching him this season I'm just going to be think be thinking please don't hurt your knee please don't hurt your Achilles just please stay healthy because of the decision you made and I don't like that I don't want to have to watch jayen Breton and be worried about his Health the entire time because he left all that money on the table I don't know Ted I I love the unselfishness of it I love the competitiveness of it but he's one of like the best six or seven basketball players on planet Earth I feel like he shouldn't be playing for a discount well I almost always especially whenever the numbers are what they are almost always I would say that it's a good thing to do but in the NBA and you know more about the NBA salary cap than I do it's not a hard cat right it is they have implemented the new CBA there's these new aprons and the second apron while you can go over it it's becoming pretty obvious with how punitive it is that that second apron is essentially acting as a new hard cap for the NBA right or at least that's kind of how I am perceiving it and that is one of the things is this keep keeps the Knicks out of the second apron so I congrats you help James Dolan everyone's favorite owner in sports I that's my thing is I you know with where they're at and I I don't know enough about their team and who gets paid what but the fact that one of the best players in the NBA is having to take less probably means that they fouled up somewhere else by giving guys more or I don't know I but in the NBA I typically say with all the trades and how things work in that league and as much money as everyone's making I say get whatever you can like when you sign the max deal you sound it's like that's a given are there any other teams anywhere like where we've this is the first time I've heard of an NBA player not taking the max deal whenever they're able to get it if they're in that position you know yeah you just don't do this what LeBron took like $2 million less than the max and I think you go back all the way to him Duncan there was a time where he wanted to be able to retain I want to say it was jobble and he took like 11 million less this is you're leaving 37 million on the table and you're putting 113 at risk yeah LeBron we've never seen anything like this in the NBA yeah I it's it's wild that's that's the holy thing with me is like the way the contracts are done and how quickly people get traded and and how quickly things can change I it's it's kind of shocking to me like it's just kind of doing business like whenever you've got a guy you pay him the max deal whether they're really worth it or not I mean there's been guys on franchises that get the max deal and you're like hang on a second this guy makes how much like just doesn't seem right but that's just kind of how it goes um I I'll say this kudos to him for making a move that he thinks is going to help him help them put together a better team that can go be be more competitive but I'd be poking my head in that room to see who they're going to grab because you know they're buying him with your money that's an interesting way of looking at it he is it's a unique situation right Leon Rose who heads up to Nicks basketball operations used to be his agent but his dad's like all the coaching staff it it's a unique situation where there are undoubtedly people in the room that have Jaylen Bronson's best interest at heart but dude that is a lot of money to leave on the table it is no no matter no matter how close you are to the people that are making the decisions you blow a knee out you popping Achilles the loyalty is going to be there I no it can't be I got yeah I just I I don't like it man and maybe the Knicks because they were able to resign ogn and Obi to a massive deal they traded for Mel Bridges and got rid of all those picks in that process like they're all in and Brunson is doing a massive solid with what he's doing from his contract but what happens if nothing comes of it for for them yeah like Boston's not going anywhere the West is loaded now now maybe they go to the finals once maybe they go twice I I don't know but man it is do you think is there any chance that he maybe did that as a way to get out of there no he's the guy he's the man I mean he's Mr New York right now I mean he's the most pop from what I understand now don't spend a lot of time plays I really like and and this is this is only going to make that fan base love him even more yeah like hey this is our guy he took less so that we could be even better like that that plays really really well for a fan base let me make myself very clear a couple years down the road Jaylen Williams or Chad hogen does something like this I'm going to talk about how they're the greatest human beings ever and it's the best decision ever that's Sports fandom right but he's taking less now I I saw the numbers on his possible contracts down the road he can sign he's got a fourthe player option on the contract he just signed so if he opts out he can sign a 4-year $323 million deal in 2028 or a 5year four $18 million deal in 2029 so I'm not worried about Jaylen brut's Financial Security but I just I don't like the fact that I'm gonna watch him all year long going please don't get hurt yeah because of this decision he made and he's gonna I sure he'll get a bunch of marketing deals and that'll make up the Gap a little bit but you ain't making up 37 million with marketing deals you're just not no you're not but you know it is I perspective wise it wasn't very long ago at all the thought of someone making $37 million a year a 4-year $156 million contract would have been like this guy's the biggest [ __ ] ever he's not worth that much money how could he do that to the Knicks you know but now he's robbing Hood please just don't get hurt Jaylen Bruton I like watching you play basketball he'll be fine they're going to they're going to knock Boston out in the Eastern con Conference finals next year they're going to carry him off the court or Tom Tibido plays of like 40 three minutes a game and he's hurt by the All-Star braer yeah there's there's a chance of that too I love it I love it jayen BRS but I also I don't like it at all birthday shout happy 11th birthday to Reed Oliver Sutton happy birthday Reed and on that note episode 439 in the books we'll have a new podcast that'll drop on Wednesday Ted are you going to bit uh oh almost said Big 12 media days are you going to SEC media days
