he hasn't exactly been Stellar here on his home now well I'll say this every player wants to perform well at their home ballark in front of their fans in front of the city and you know this guy no different he wants to be more effective here so know you look at the numbers they haven't been great at home I'm sure he wants to turn that around and we'll see if he's able to start that in this one and a pitch bounced to the right side Frasier on the first in time one up one down as we take a look now at the New York Yankees lineup an offense that knows how to mash Chris lots of power throughout the lineup they're leading the league in homers right now yeah and I think when you're facing a team like this pitchers coming in they see the stats they end up trying to nibble trying to work on the edges trying to expand the zone and so I think the key if these hitters can stay within themselves obviously they have the ability to hit the ball a long way and score runs quickly so we'll see how it goes in this one up the middle and he knocks it down and they get the out after the Ricochet and now the hustle out to check on him that was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee yeah clearly in some real pain but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn't have to it's looking to me like he's going to try to shake it off and continue two outs SP is empty now it's Tren Grisham to the plate hit hard base hit and that gives Aaron judge a chance to hit with two out it affects the game in so many ways right your ability to come back is usually tied to power if you can deliver a huge hit with one swing of the bat it really changes your capability when you fall behind runner at first with two away here comes Aaron judge and he can't come up with it but they get the out at first and that'll do it for the inning the Yanks lead one the Royals will get their chance now in a scoreless ball game it's major league baseball and it's on the show and we're back our starter in this one Marcus strowman and sing We were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout and a quick out number one and here now the lineup for the Royals and a big factor for them in recent games hunter Renfro and one of the most versatile players he can bat anywhere in that order and he can play anywhere on the field not just the Outfield the infield as well Drew Waters at the plate now that's ball one strowman he has a reputation I don't know maybe a knack for working himself out of tough situations that he finds himself in you know you like that in a relief pitcher but when you have it for a starting pitcher a guy they can get out of a tight spot that is pretty valuable one out base is empty swings through that one it's a strike out he's locked in at the plate when he's using the whole field he was out in front there just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track good pitch for the strike out Freddy fine stands in now and watches strike one and a swinging a Miss there no ball two strik [Applause] two out Bas is empty got him and good work there as he gets a one two three all set for extra bases and that rolls into the corner [Applause] here's the Yankees catcher now Austin Wells definitely scuffling at the dish lately only two hits over the last five games that misses the Zone ball [Applause] one in the air left field down the line Mendez makes the catch throw behind the runner and they've got him doubled off here's Alex D go H last night added another hit as well wide drive and that's just foul well off to a great start he's really cruising out there on the mound he's got a chance to get through these first two innings with under 20 pitches That Could set him up to go deep into this game finish him [Applause] two outs that's foul off to the right side keeps the AV [Applause] going the pitch up the middle throws the first in time and weo back here in Kansas City ready to go for the last half of the inning and now the DH Nelson Velasquez and a pitch turned on but foul wide of [Applause] third and a swing and a miss looks like he's picked up right where he left off here's Adam Frasier rolled softly but that goes foul [Applause] comes up empty that strike two Mike Filmore our Playdoh player very consistent with his Zone Cris gets a lot of praise for that he does Br and I think that with any umpire you really just want them to be consistent Filmore is a guy that does a good job back there in that way so people around the league really appreciate his [Applause] consistency swing and a miss and he got him now two away yeah there's no doubt boo electric stuff from the jump and there's just no messing around right now still very early but we could see a pretty impressive outing here left field way back there and it one hops the wall now he'll turn for second and he'll beat the throw that's a double oh a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win and a foul ball well they're looking to get on the board first here after that two out double this interesting with the [Applause] count on the ground right side it's in and out of his glove no C that's an error and everyone is safe I think he got a little casual on that play and took it for granted a little bit so maybe just as much of a mental mistake as a physical one and with two outs that's a tough one to swallow for the entire defense swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left Center pulls it down and he makes the catch and welcome back to the ballpark on to the third inning now here is Jason Dominguez and the first pitch misses for ball one you know these Yankees as you probably noticed haven't been shy at the plate at all in fact they've probably been too aggressive at times I'm specifically talking about the first pitch these guys are swinging more than 80% of the time which is fine if you're scoring runs but that hasn't been the case today that misses and it's two and [Applause] one in the air out towards Right Center Waters makes the catch and there's one gone and next for New York Oswaldo [Applause] Cabrera hard hit to third throws the in time so the lineup flips over Lise stands in short hop liner handled it short over to First and that is the inning set for the bottom of the third and now the first baseman number 88 that one finds the Zone one [Applause] one and it's s him in this guy's got such a good Sinker as a hitter you've got to look up in the zone if you look down you're going to be chasing stuff in the dirt fights it off he'll see another the pitch foul ball still o and two and the pitch and down on strikes he goes and one G so the batting order turns over now the third baseman right side and that chance handled tosses to First and a couple of quick outs Drew Waters stands in and that one missing low still T at zero last to the third inside almost got [Applause] him there's the strike that split he a pretty nasty pitch he explodes out of the hand looks like a fast ball in the bottom just falls on right through there for a [Applause] strike spoils that one and it remains two and [Applause] two bounce to the left side and foul ball to the right side he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it KC back here at Coffman Stadium out of the fourth Vladimir Guerrero Jr now and the right hter back to work smash to Center way back and you can forget it hold [Applause] r a gigantic blast and that gives him a lead it's one nothing that adds another game to his hitting streak CH yeah he's been doing so many things well with the plate and clearly driving the ball with some Authority as part of that he's really dangerous with the bat in his hands right now singy this was a mammoth home run over 460 ft according to stat test you know boo there only maybe 20 or so guys in the game that can hit a baseball that far and it's absolutely crazy it's even that many such an press to swing to the backat right there kicks andos F off foul part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage not close with that one one and two the [Applause] count hard hit right side tosses to first that's the first out in the top of the four Aaron judge at the pl 0 for one he grounded out to First his last time bounced up the middle what a stop throws from the seat of his pants in time got him what an acrobatic play right there knocks it down throws from the seat of his pants and just looks like he's playing in the backyard he makes it look really easy St the next to hit takes outside swings through that one for strike one hitter Nelson Velasquez big swing in a miss these hitters have been very aggressive early in the cow but when you're down might want to be a little more patient take some pitches see if you can extend that'll make you feel good as a hitter right there off the bat that one registered at 105 mph man that is smoking and these days you hear it all the time but the numbers just don't like there's a swing and a drive and it bangs off the foul pole home run a monster shot to right it's three nothing he only needed one swing to square it up not wasting any time in that is bat boo aggressive and it this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don't give that other team any hope you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they're hot so up now for Kansas City Michael Massie he swings and misses at the first pitch old well these Royals need to bring up the quality of their BS and specifically their swings just one extra base hit for him so they haven't exactly been hitting the ball Gap to Gap or out of the park that makes it really difficult to generate RS and there's two away for me that's one of the toughest double plays to turn on the infield the first baseman has to get inside create a throwing to hit that middle infield to start the double play and then from there completing it back to First really good job all the way around Mendez batting for the second time and that's strike one two down nobody on last half of inning number five drilled out towards left center field that's well struck and one hops Off the Wall should be extra bases and into second easily with a two out double I'm sure he feels really good about that one nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many oh get dirty from his backside nicely done for the out first it looks like making the stop is the hardest part but feeding to the pitcher on the move I think even tougher great job of hitting that moving Target all right we go to the top half of inning number six now the number two hitter Vladimir Guerrero J Junior Line Drive caught man he really turned on that one absolutely ripped it towards third but quick catlike reflexes down there at the Hot Corner to bring it down and first off ring is fouled off Grisham first round pick of the Brewers in 2015 one down base is empty swing and a miss slider right there action in the pen down there Matt sour getting loose out there Sanchez also throwing couldn't catch up to the heater Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter yeah he's been very frugal today economical with the pitch [Applause] count Massie tosses across the first and the Yanks and welcome back to the ballpark well we go bottom six and to the pl for Kansas City number 11 that one down the line and it goes just foul the one swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play and the righty deals now one's upstairs ball one and the count is one and two wouldn't chase that time still two and two after the foul ball and another ball now on this three ball count down in the ball game you got to be very selective take your walk if they'll give it to you got him looking and he did not like the call so up next Drew Waters that Clips The Zone that's strike one is empty one away here in the second game of the series breaking ball through there for a strike love how vocal the Umpire is today no doubt in The Hitter mind catcher mind and even the pitcher mind as to the conviction in the call the onew just missed really good take especially with two strikes and this is inside he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he's W hit hard on the ground to short Zips it across two up two down oh he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution fine in the box now no balls in a strike close here and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game ST up for the third time and takes ball one you know these Yankees simply put are producing a lot of quality swings they've been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it's right into a glove but still they've hit nine line drives so far that's something they should feel very good about Wells at the plate now as he chases after that one wow that's not even close to the zone [Applause] got him swinging the pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast ball it used to be that a lot of pitchers didn't like to throw it because it' throw off their release point in their mechanics and they're aimed at keeping everything at the knees get ground balls but because hitters get ah that ends the inning so we take a break bottom of the seventh so here's the Royals DH Nelson Velasquez hit hard that gets through so run a board to start the inning Adam Frasier steps in for the Royals up next Fraser really thriving with the bat this season here at home y up by three the bottom of the [Applause] seven if you're going to get something going this is the time to do it you get the lead off man on everybody's got to look over the shoulder and say I'm just going to keep the line moving don't try to do too much and there's a rocket into the Outfield Vasquez round second on his way to third coming home he'll score easily and now just the two run deficit anytime you rip a l ey the other way you feel really good about what you did at the you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there next offering is in for a strike Frasier leads off second with nobody out outside and the count one and two foul ball left side he'll see another and here it comes pitch misses outside and the counts even a [Applause] two struck him out looking Michael Massie steps in for the Royals and here comes the Yankees manager to the mound pitching change coming here's a new pitcher from the pen Dennis Santana on for his 20th appearance of the Year and that one ripped into right Bas H here comes the throw they won't risk the send Runners at the Corners now with one away well that was an important at bat in this game so great job there stepping up to the challenge solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he and that one almost hit him all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning that one misses two and one and that's outside at this point in the game you cannot issue free passes he's going to have to challenge this hitter H got to be ready to swing it next offer is in for a [Applause] strike got him fou tiip strike three not afraid to throw it right there that's trusting your stum just one out away from getting out of a huge Jam number 88 at the plate now and that's inside strike one bad that was pretty gr right there line drive and that's a base hit into center field R from third into SC and it's a one-run game this confidence level is so high really nice job of coming through in a big spot we'll often hear the phrase short to it long through it and that's a great example of it right there got the Barrel in The Hitting Zone early sced it up with the well time swing and came away with a beautiful Line Drive in the center field that one to First Guerrero takes it to the bag that ends the inning and they limit the damage so it's two runs on four hits no errors and for the top of the eight and stepping in for the Yankees Jason Dominguez the right hander back to work sour measures 6' 4 in 25 years old and he was the second round pick back in 2017 not even close there and that is ball one [Applause] this one RI but foul to the [Applause] right the onew swings and misses struck him out so digging in Oswaldo Cabrera on the ground to third Zips it to away don't expect anything down the heart of the plate you may just have to be patient and take your walk here swings through that one out in front that time he's had a tough day at the plate three continue to carry through the middle of the field so up next Trent Grisham and that's off the Inside Edge one and0 ground ball right side and that one finds its way through throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out couple of singles back to back just one of those scene eye base hits through the infield he just kind of rolled over on it a little bit but sometimes those can find a hole and get you a knock and now big number 99 Aaron judge that misses the zone and now it's even one and one swings through that one for strike two one ball two St bouns it off still one and two one-run game here in the top of the ninth judge rips that one he's got it [Applause] now here's John Carlos Stanton one for [Applause] three swing and a miss and he was fooled oh one's the count swings through that he was really Tardy on that fast ball great job of setting him up by throwing the curveball add some velocity to the next pitch can't catch up SP in a miss and he's down on strikes two down so first and second with two outs Austin Wells the next to hit 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out swinging a foul straight [Applause] back drilled to right way back there and that is gone a massive home run home run number five on the season it's 62 that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on autopilot Jake Bren into the game and this could be a tough first test for him right here his numbers against lefties aren't great this season Renfro snags it on the Run but the biggest swing of the inning comes right here a now it's the second baseman Adam Frasier see it wi oh and one and that's a base hit and the lead off man aboard all over that one right there just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great man gets on you want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two and that's just foul the Royals down by four we're in the last half of the ninth inning foul ball it stays nothing in two triple digits on that last pitch came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate couldn't get Milo doal get handed the rock out of the pen well good luck against this guy he's been extremely tough to hit this year his numbers are excellent Messi B it with one down takes a [Applause] strike Frasier leads off first with one away gets a piece and it stays 0 and two two gone now now at the plate MJ Melendez swing in a Miss hold one's the count out towards right center field he's got it b game the Yankees take the first two games of this series on the road sometimes road trips can be tough you're away from your family but when you can win silence that opposing crowd it makes things just a little bit better makes the road trip just a a little bit shorter
