Expectations for Browns entering '24 season | 'GMFB'

Love with his player on his shoulder. Oh I love that. It's great for the Seahawks. But let's circle back to that first face that we saw on that highlight shall we. It's a quarterback Deshaun Watson not playing again after playing in just a half a dozen games. Last season. How do we go about talking about the Browns as we enter the regular season with them. Once again with Deshaun Watson as their quarterback, but we just don't know what version of him we're getting. I in my opinion, they have to take a play from the Denver Broncos playbook and just move on. Oh oh you move on. I think sometimes franchises you get into a situation where you where you invested so much money into a player and it's not working out and you're just hoping and praying that all of this money just listen. Myles Garrett isn't getting younger. Nick Chubb isn't getting younger. Denzel Ward, Grant Grant Delpit David Njoku you have the supporting cast to be really, really good year in and year out. You have a defense that just dominates the NFL football game. But your quarterback hasn't been able to produce like how you're hoping them to. So in this situation it's just one of those things where, hey, it was it was something that we were hoping worked, but it hasn't. Let's move on. Let's take advantage of what we have. And the window is now. So that's that's my opinio. Yeah. It's I mean that's. Do you I hear you? Do you agree? I don't agree to move on from Deshaun Watson. I'm probably one of the very few people that still believes in Deshaun Watson. I know we have not seen you know Deshaun Watson play in you know more than six games since 2020. I mean and that's when he was playing at a high level. Obviously there's been off the field issues. There's been injuries and this could be the very first year. We see that like he could be a candidate for the comeback player of the year. I truly believe they've got all the weapons around him from Amari Cooper to you know obviously Joe Antonio Myles Garrett on the other side Denzel on the other side. Like this is a solid team. And the way they looked last year with him without him this is a good team. So Deshaun Watson really to me the pressure is off. Like you got dogs around. You like you're ready you're set. Now all he has to do is just put in the mentals I mean from a front office standpoint Manti you're talking about you know like maybe you know because being forced because they, they put all this money into it, they really don't have another option. Like it's like you know, like you could go with Jameis Winston right. You could. But can I interest you in some Dorian Thompson-robinson D.t.r. No I'm cool. Yeah I'm cool. But to your point like yeah no I know. Yeah yeah yeah. Skidding your tires I'm cool. Deshaun Watson is you paid $230 million. You're going to get everything you like I know if I bought something for $230 oh I'm going to get everything out of it. Even if it starts to break down I'm going to get everything out of it, I think Deshaun Watson is going to be a comeback player of the year. Oh wow okay. So we're we're throwing that out I think that's fascinating. We run the gamut in this conversation. And that's what makes him interesting from move on to comeback player of the year. Here's just some facts okay. The Browns traded three three first round draft picks for him. Plus some more picks. They signed him a five year, $230 million deal, fully guaranteed. At this point, he still has over $130 million fully guaranteed left on the contract. So like they're in bed with Deshaun Watson and he ain't leaving. I just I don't know if they know what he's going to give them I don't know what if I know if you know the fact is and Akbar hit on this. Deshaun Watson has not had a full complete quality season since 2020. That's the Covid season. It's been that long. That doesn't mean he's not going to be good again. It just means my god it's been a long time since he's been out there. Deshaun Watson he was a superstar. He was a top five guy in the league and now it's completely a mystery. Add to that he has the reigning coach of the year who won that award based mostly on a playoff run that they made with Joe Flacco out of nowhere, during which they were real conversations being had about, you know, the team responds to Joe Flacco a lot better than they ever did to Deshaun Watson, who we guaranteed a quarter billion dollars. Notice that Joe Flacco is not there anymore. Of course he got them the hell out of there because we can't have that conversation. I think it is. I've said this before, the most enigmatic team in the entire NFL, because the star of the team, who is guaranteed to be there for a long time, we have no clue what we're getting from him. And there's very little conversation about it because there's nothing to sink your teeth into. We talk more about Justin Fields practice reps in that division than we do about the actual starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson. You got burrow. You have Lamar. You have whoever the Pittsburgh Steelers choose. And then it's like oh yeah there's Watson who at one point was looked at as the future of the league. Maybe the face of the league before everything went to hell I don't know what to expect week one. And remember week one Browns Cowboys Tom Brady's first call as an announcer. Everybody's watching it. Everybody's listening to it. And I think even Tom Brady himself is looking at Watson being like, show us something
