Carson Beck ties school record for touchdowns, talks through big performance in Georgia home opener

how easy it out uh yeah know I thought we had a really good plan you know for their defense we knew how they were going to play against us and we attacked what we thought were their weaknesses um but no I thought our wide receivers had you know a really good day we have so many athletes on the field and they went out there and made plays and there's a few guys wide open out there that make next job really easy so you know thought we had a really good day as offense how important is a game like this for you to be able just to build chemistry with your receivers and your back tail backs yeah I mean every every game we play is important um and I'll continue to stress this and say this I mean it's never about the opponent whether it's team a b or c um it's it's always about us and US playing to our standard um and obviously I'm on the offensive side of the ball so how can the offive offense play it's our standard every single week week in week out whether that's a practice game um and know I thought we I thought we did well um I think there's some things that we can go back watch them and fix um but know I thought I thought we had a a good uh game et's debut for you guys OB obviously the leading rusher for you and just to see him back after the supension yeah no um thought he had a great day you know he's very capable back a lot of talent there excited to see you know as as the offense progresses and as he progresses and it's our system what what he's able to do as far as like death is concerned with the receivers is one of the deepest uh yeah I mean I'd say so as far as I look out there I'm not really worried about who's out there you know it could be a a two quote unquote um I don't know there's really ones and twos twos and ones you know I think there's a lot of guys that are capable out there that go out there and make our off exposive uh Caron last week you guys were kind of criticized for slow start to the first half of this but this week how ref fresh it was to have that fast start and get up to really strong start yeah absolutely I mean defense goes out gets three and out um we get a huge Prim return down to the I don't even know yard line 20 25 um we take a shot at the end zone we complete it um it's always always makes it a little bit easier when you go out there and I mean score on the first play as you know offensive possession but no it was good to go out there and start fast and follow that up the second drive as before half time you guys decided to stay out there and go for that drive to that live reps yeah I mean obviously we're going to treat every hand the same like I said earlier you know we're going to try to go to our standard it probably wasn't the best drive that we've had you know concerning a two- minute before the half it's always good to get those type of reps you don't know when the situation going to come up in big games but no I think we can go back and really really learn from that and improve in that area you know sub before that what you say like your defense performance well yeah it's back to back weeks you know only three points uh like I always say I hate against our defense I have to go against them for 21 days straight during fall camp and it's a miserable time uh but no obviously super proud of our defense um I think they're really talented we have some really talented players but also really good coaches that put our players in the best position possible a really good scheme that I think just confines offenses that are trying to play against us so know super proud of them and it obviously makes our job a lot easier when our defense handles an offense like two is there any chance that you like I want to get that 6 TV so bad to take do you ever think about that like you wanted to do that oh no I could care less um whether we run it in times whether I throw it six times um a win is a win that's you know week two we're one and0 again so we'll watch the film we'll get better and then we'll move on two weeks and two touchdowns with Kobe and what did you say to him after you looked like you came up and said something about the routy ran and what how did you guys build this chemistry set um yeah you know it's just reps in the offseason um I was actually trying to check the uh I was trying to check the play um and then he didn't he ran the original play which ultimately ended up working which was kind of funny um but no uh yeah he I mean he's a really talented guy obviously last week touchdown this week touchdown again then we have a lot of talent in now room and you know he's just one of the guys that's in there soon in a game where th barly cont do you have some fun with him or does he come up to you kind of joking like dude just let me have one time well yeah I think I think the like on running joke is is that like you know the the quarterback and the funner hate each other especially I told him well my goal is to never have him you know come on the field you know I want to obviously you want to end every uh drive and a kick whether it's a punt or an extra point or a field goal you don't want to turn the ball over but my goal is to never have red por and you know get on field obviously he got out there today but it wasn't in my doing so I still counted that I haven't let him play I told him at the beginning of the year he wasn't going to play at all so you get to see your old friend next week you get to BRS you all been texting about the game and and just kind of what do you think about how we play I haven't even watched a game but no I mean we talk we talk every now and then I haven't gotten the opportunity uh to talk about you know next week with him um I'll probably give him a little text this week I think he's playing right now um so probably go watch the rest of that game obviously great for him he's a great friend of mine uh but maybe not too much knowing how you changed I'm I'm assuming that that one minute uh offense I guess got 40 something left on the clock in the half is what stuck in your mind a little bit about go um yeah no I mean I think yeah I think that's that drive is something that we can go back and watch a film on and improve in that area I wouldn't say that it's stuck on my mind though um I mean we we move on fast you know we're we're moment to moment play by play play and uh we came back into the half we we recognized what we did where we messed up where we made errors and then we came out second half two touchdowns immediately um it's more about how you can respond to that stuff I always said it's stuck in my head Gunner got in today just talk about just how you've seen him grow in the past uh you know month from Fall Camp to this point yeah absolutely um I mean his overall growth you know has has been amazing I think even I me coming in he was so talented you know what he's able to do with his legs and then he paired that you know with his arm strength and the mental capabilities um really excited to see him you know continue to develop um you know as he you know starts to step into that role after this year Carson what does it do for you to have so many different receivers that that you can count on and can play big roles in this offense yeah I think it makes my job really easy um not that being a quarterback is Easy by any means but you know as long as uh I keep my you know mental processing right and I'm in the right place with the ball we can count on guys to be open and be in the right spot at the right time so you know having having that talent definitely makes my job a little bit easier Carson you probably already been asked about about Co young just how impressed have you been with him this year and and what has allowed him to to make such an impact early with two touchdowns in two games yeah absolutely I mean he's a he's a veteran guy obviously he's new but I mean this is his what fourth or fifth year of college football I mean he's he's played in a lot of games he's he's had a lot of reps and I think having a guy like that you know be able to step in and uh make an immediate impact we almost I don't want to say expected of him but we we expect that out of you know being able to see him in in Spring ball Mak some plays in summer fall Camp all that but continue make that's offense the term security blanket is probably overused but do you feel that a little bit in the Red Zone when you're like if nothing else I can just give him a back shoulder fade and oh absolutely I mean he uh I don't know how tall he is 64 65 but he's a big he's a big body he's a big dude um so there definitely is a almost safety net within that um and a comfortability you know throwing into him is there a sense of anticipation open the road you say what can you repeat that sense of anticipation as you get ready to go on the road yeah no absolutely we're about to go 8 game straight the SEC play um it's it's going to be a gauntlet but I think you know I think we're going to be prepared for that we're going to be ready for that and we're excited for that you know um obviously we'll watch you from of this game improve but we need to improve on on that and then move on to Kentucky next what difference do you think Trev joinging the offense side what does it make you already have some pretty good backs you needs some another yeah I mean I I think our running back room is really explosive I think there's some guys in there that I mean you make one miss and they might be gone uh there's there's one run today that crosses my mind which Trevor you know he broke it away for 50 however long it was but no I think he has that you know quick quick switch ability really good out of the back field as well I know we didn't see much of that today but no he's a really explosive back and I think that as addition to what we already have what do you all have to do next week that you've not done already I mean you playing on the road that's one thing that's a little bit different than you're like trip say you're playing in the league yeah I think um I don't know if it's different but I think the preparation of going on to the road you know the first technically Road game I mean I wouldn't consider Atlanta a road game for us um I never would um but no I think I think the preparation piece of going onto the road and playing a team um not at our home stadium is going to be different and then I mean honestly just the same stuff you know just the consistency of what we get that get out there on the field um and just do what we do and play to the standard five touchdowns to five different guys today how how good does it feel to be able to spread the wealth a little bit on a day where you you can spread the wealth a little bit yeah no absolutely know it feels good um we I mean we have so much talent in the wide receiver room even look a tight end room as well um honestly all across the offense um you know guys had a great day they were they were getting open so always always a good day when you throw five touchdowns to five different guys was there any part of you that wanted toh get get out there for six touchdown break the record or oh no I I mean I can care less no I mean whether we run it in five times run it throw it in five times that I mean you look at the scoreboard we we're one to0 again week two uh move on to
