Notre Dame football vs. NIU Huskies postgame reaction show | Irish lose a STUNNER 16-14

hey go Irish I don't really know what to say oh my God hey hey this is easy to talk about man this is this is the easiest show we've ever done so I mean what do you mean what the hell are you talking about Tim Mike there's tons to talk about so just kick it off there's plenty I mean Notre Dame's the fifth ranked team in the country didn't show up I mean this was Marshall 2.0 every single play felt like you're watching Marshall so it's the same thing I mean we're in year three we're in year three Freeman will get you extremely hyped for the big games zero Focus for the little ones I mean we've been seeing this for three years so ain't no way that just happened oh it it happened when you don't show up and you don't play with energy some guys did some guys play their butts off today but you just don't make plays and I mean what can you do so hey first off kudos to NIU how about how about how about all the Twitter the you know the the Twitter foes who mocked that guy and trolled that guy when he said hey you know we we put on our pants just like Notre Dame the same way yeah you sure do buddy kudos to you because he did it man he I mean I mean this is literally the same type of thing pass games atrocious Mike there's so many freaking times I'm like poor guy's trying to throw how many times you hear Jason Garrett's like protection's good no one's open same thing against Marshall it's um hey you can still go to the playoffs right are we gonna be keep hearing this 11 and one come on this team's not going 11 and one it's like it's unless they just find a way to Rally this is embarrassing it's h pretty pathetic but it also shows how hard it is to go undefeated everyone figured undefeated I mentioned that the other night right there's only five programs have gone undefeated three times which Notre Dame has done since 2012 so it just shows how hard it is to do and um it's um I know I I cut in as you were starting but I'm just like I'm I'm numb it's kind of interesting yeah exactly death taxes Notre Dame struggling versus unranked teams this is this is unreal so Brian Kelly won what 54 57 games in a row against unranked team team that went out game two under Freeman and obviously is's continuing now so his uh actually his last two losses are against unranked teams Clemson and and and NIU were both unranked and oh I I don't I don't even know what to say I don't know how I'm gonna get through this show Tim oh I get through it I'm I get through it it's not it's not on us Mike it's not on us we did throw the worst Tim that interception yeah that was horrid Horrid he underthrew him by maybe 15 yards it's a walk Walking TouchDown for Chris Mitchell and he throws a line drive like he's hitting a Whipple ball I I think he just when the ball left his hands you know what my first thought was okay he can throw a deep ball like the ball looked great touchdown the ball looked great but when he released it yeah Mitchell was blowing bu him um the guy the DB stopped to come back how do you not how can you not throw a pass 30 yards in the air so I who would have thought Drew Pine could throw farther than Riley Leonard I guess on a go route um I I guess now we know why we see five yard hitches every other play so there's one play Notre Dame sent four guys out I think it was God I I'll have to check but it's like third and eight four guys go out in the pass route three out of the four run routes less than eight yards I'm like is is this the pass offense that Den Brock's bringing um just hey it's um whatever the comments are man keep them coming five years but um yeah I mean this is obviously tailor made for Notre Dame everything we've talked about setting up this schedule is cupcake Ville it's cupcake Ville if you show up and do your job but Notre Dame did not do their job they let NIU Hammer them for 200 almost 200 yards rushing by the way how about their quarterback is that the most accurate dude I've ever seen I mean that dude threw dimes into just the smallest windows on Earth you know but um I know how golden loves his past D but you know you give up a 90 that 90 yard or 80 yard or whatever it was was just a thread but I you know some of my notes real quick from the you know first quarter was just like I thought Notre Dame was just like being too cute they they ran a 62 six D lineman on the line of scrimmage they ran a 62 a 44 I saw a 34 with three down guys and two standup out outside with KVA one of those two inside then they're a nickel I don't think I don't think they ever went to a dime today there was never hell they never had long distance outside of a couple times but they really didn't go to it um I I thought they got too cute early trying to mix and match and do all this stuff defensively it's like man just play your base five just play your base and and go win and they couldn't even play their base and win which is uh you know it's just kind of pathetic you know yeah I like I want to take a step back and think about the big picture of this game Tim because this is like an all-time worst loss for the Irish right like this this this has got to be it's got to be up there Tim considering your schedule right like this is Notre Dame's chance to like you beat A&M your schedule is easy and you know what Tim I talked all off seon about about this schedule might be easy but we've seen Notre Dame crap the bed in some of these games but before you move on it is year freaking three what has Marcus Freeman learned what has he learned exactly we saw Notre Dame mess the bed as you say so it's year three all this study and all the analytics he had the little you know 17-year-old behind him you saw what the paper always reading out the analytics notes if you saw that during the game a little like a little binder with five sheets of paper he kept telling them the the data you know okay great you know what else have you learned it's about and there's going to be ups and downs we always talk about the Val you know the peaks in The Valleys of a football season and stuff like that you know when you upsets happen yes we all know that upsets happen but when you're the fifth rank team it's only game freaking two it's the home opener not like they beat A&M at home last week in a crazy crowd and then they're taking a a a break off today hold on a second hold on uh super chats T sper won't Mike what what's what are your thoughts right now man why can't I be a Utah fan that's what I'm thinking hey nine and three gets to some good bowl games every now and then compete for a you know conference title you're right I yeah I just I'm I'm absolutely stunned I'm absolutely stunned I didn't I didn't think Notre Dame would come anywhere close to covering but it's just yet another weird day game loss to a team you have no business losing to under Freeman but those Day games are tough man they're tough what do you attribute this loss to Mike like what is like what are the biggest things well Tim and I love to go back and forth on Golden's defense right and it's like you give up so much and Tim there's times like in that A&M game and it doesn't look like a bust where we will leave guys uncovered in the passing game because it's like we know the rush is gonna get home right you can see it when you watch l22 film but like defensively we can't stop the run same last that's not really an eort thing there's a little bit of technique Tim you could talk about but just generally speaking it's like we are so vulnerable to the run and if a no NIU coaching staff with a with a senior Laden team like they had can just jump into that film and just like it doesn't take a rocket science him to see I mean you could you could we will give you four yards every snap in the Run game just take it I think I texted you on Monday and I said why didn't A&M just run the ball 40 times yep you did I me seriously they could have just ran the ball like Mad Dogs and they wanted to chuck it all over the place so not to say you know A&M wins the game but they would have but there was gashes their heck their one their one touchdown Drive they never threw the ball so when you go back to that game I think that's exactly with the NIU guys when you hear they have 18 starters coming back 30s something seniors on the team on that one graphic you got all these guys returning you know the old line almost 12 when starts it you know these it it all makes sense that that guy knows that that old coaching staffs knows we're on four wides against these guys y they had 12 Personnel 13 they had wild cat wild whenever you go wild cat it's automatic unbalance because you have an extra guy you have to fit against and Notre Dame is not good at fitting it they're just not even a couple that plays last week against A&M where there was some I mean Owen took some bad angles even today not the single out guys or whatever but it's just like it's run fits man there's there there's so many gaps and and there's a great NIU play on like a third and two where they got it they goty plls whenever you pull a guy there's an extra Gap automatically Notre Dame was like two guys short in the Run game just by gaps fits with DBS on the field and it's it's so noticeable but you know you know what it is too to answer kind of to answer your question singer like what happened what did you see and again I'm I'm gen like genuinely stunned like I'm stunned and really disappointed but it's like NIU didn't overthink it no to your point Tim you're like we got a a great we got an NFL Talent at running back potentially you got a A bunch of senior guys we've been watching Golden's film and it's just like okay we're not going to overthink it we're just going to run the ball we're going to play a little bit of bully ball and that did not get cute and it's just like we we absolutely get queued on defense and maybe it's just the old school old school in US Tim but it's like as a as a defense I'm always taught I was brought up it's like you gotta stop the run and then we build off of that like that's the foundation of your defense and then offensively speaking oh it's it's it's the Mike it give me 12 seconds it's the same thing as always no one gets open and it's just scatterbrain type of a pass attack they can't throw Riley Leonard is shown in two games he can't throw a past 20 freaking yards Drew pin's got a stronger arm than Riley Leonard he has shown in two games he cannot throw a deep ball well I shouldn't say can't because he hit freaking Jaden greous who didn't make the play that was for 30 yards but there is zero vertical threat zero it is a sad jump in no it is true and he had he had time in this game unlike the A&M game he had time and it's like yeah where is the separation who's getting open and then beyond that back to the getting cute thing Jeremiah love is like one of our top two or three players in the team I don't care what anybody says like in terms of god-given talent and all this he makes that amazing Sports Center top 10 run he gets one touch the rest of the game so it's like what are we doing don't overthink it you know it's like oh it's more important to get anas Williams in as your third down back as a true freshman that it is to just give like give the ball to your best player on offense it's like all of the rotation and such it's like some of the stuff is mind Bing but no Riley did not look good and said this all off season he's an athlete playing quarterback he still a lot of work to do in terms of the Polish at the position yeah he looked like gou hot garbage yes sir all right between Leonard looking like hot garbage like you just said receivers not getting open Den Brock like I'm curious for your take on the offensive play calling like where do you if you have a pie chart here like where do you put the most blame for that offensive performance well Tim helped me with this and I've yet to see the all 22 I'll get the all 22 ball you run the ball but then I got a I got a ragtag group of young offensive linemen that are getting beat up and getting o like out intensified like you know they're getting they're getting Northern Illinois played harder so it's like what do you do and then by the way you don't have a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and you don't have two first round picks at wide receiver so I do think that the den Brock hype was overhyped because again he doesn't have the same tools at his disposal that he did in LSU yeah so I don't know really know where to place the blame other than I guess then Brock because you got to go back to running the ball that you you have to because you don't have the talent outside save for Bo Collins Bo Collins is good and he's a dog he has juice and it's like you know Jaden great house was was was anointed this off season anointed it was like that was the one thing we felt great about was Jaden great house and just drops a beautiful ball so it's right there man it's right there yeah Bo Collins 45 yards receiving and he's your best guy I mean but but once again Bo I I don't know if he could beat anyone deep because I never really he's an underneath guy he competes for the ball he plays his ass off so just keep throwing 10 yard outs to him damn it because he's really freaking good at catching 10 yard stop routes he's he's really good but uh there there is absolutely Tim there's absolutely an element to our offense over the years where everything's a lot of stop routes everything stops everything hooks up you know look here look here it's because we don't have guys that can run themselves open we don't no no no we don't that's what we keep talking about fans keep saying we're idiots yet we're like they don't we keep saying this each and every year that's why we've been once again who is the dude that threatens a defensive coordinator nobody does again and we tried saying that all year long but we were told we're wrong and um it's the same stuff I I have no idea what people see during training camp when they get those videos or get the watch because it's but you know I I have no idea it'll happen it'll happen next off oh it's gonna happen next year because because there's because they're gonna lose five receivers the three transfers Thomas and KY are going to be gone they're seniors they won't come back for a fifth so that's five receivers are going to be gone they have who are they gonna replace them with Jerome Bettis Jr no so they're gonna go get some transfers next year so we're going to hear the same thing the transfer wide receivers Who the hell's the quarterback next year Riley Riley Leonard is a competitive son of a gun there's no doubt about that I was more you're right I just looked at the the play byplay Love only touched the ball one more time the the second the rest second half now they only had a few more drives but only one touch just feed the son of a gun I I was more Blown Away by them just not running QB QB runs more they ran this I mean that was so successful in the first half they didn't do it the second half just take it and go run Des run just real quick because it was a dog fight of a game they weren't going to ex explode by anyone so just put it in the hands of Riley Leonard and kind of like what NIU did and just run freaking wild cat down your throat and they didn't do that at all in the second half I was very surprised by that yeah well that break it begs the question first drive six design runs for Riley yes and it's like we talked about that on patreon with Jared like I you and I differ we have different opinion on quarterback design quarterback power you love it I I don't love it just because of the wear and tear you know on a on a a kid that's a quarterback's not built to take hits like a five 11 220 pound back right so Jared Jared says Jared says Tim in that game he's like I don't really like it either but in a big game when you need it when you got to pull rabbit out of the house and this wasn't a big game but it was a big moment to your point it's like yeah go back to what what we knew at least worked at a point in time in this game so either that and or give Jeremiah love the ball well that's why NIU did wildcat with that stud running back it's the same thing it's just quarterback taking the ball it's one extra blocker like on on the one touchdown run they had four Dudes out in front of Riley Leonard you had for you had Emil Wagner you had Cooper Flanigan pulling around because Eli rared in uh pin block great block by Billy Ralph and Ashton Craigs pulling four Dudes out there full on 1944 Frank Le single wing and you never saw that again the rest of the game according to this rushing play log for Riley his last rushing attempt was with 1155 in the second quarter so he ran the ball 11 times within the first what is that like 17 minutes 18 minutes of the game that's wild and then not again maybe maybe at that's you know when he fell he looked like he got hurt when he threw the ball backwards thank God that thing didn't get scooped up and scored what was that but um maybe he was a little beat up a little banged up and they're like oh you know that does that just go back to a cocky mindset well we're gonna beat these guys anyway but no you needed his ass to run and I mean this is just like Marshall Notre Dame's only in that Marshall game because Tyler Buckner ran the ball like crazy and as a single wi quarterback that's what kept them in that damn game and they had the lead in the fourth quarter same thing in this game what kept them in the game in the first half was Riley Leonard running the damn football so they really got away from that um as as as as Mike just showed us so yeah and you're right it's a young old line they're not physically empowering Billy shr's a man I can't wait to read what he really stood out a ton today just mauling people the other guys looked you know I'm gonna have to see but shr really stood out today and then Mike you know gouby when you when you you know here we are talking about run you know run defense but I thought Notre Dame had this freakish D line there's did they have how many tfls did they get today singer outside of what Osberry may had one and sne had a great tackle or three from the dline uh let's see I got Kingston and Howard cross your weight get ready to like wrap up his legs like it's so bad it's so bad you know how do you not make this Play You're a a freak list two two years consecutively and like you just can't you're a football and he still looks a little confused God love the kid totally understandable but get him some more runs because he will insert on a run play too many times our linebackers just catch they Osberry he had to have played the second most snaps behind Kaiser he was out there a ton he is little though how there's no way that dude weighs 220 pounds whatever He's listed at he looks doesn't he look like he weighs 195 pounds yeah he looks he honestly physically he looks like almost like a running back playing backer but I'll just say this if we talk about like a little bit of technique sorry just find little holes and just go make plays especially when he blitzes and when they shoot him on run fits Kaiser you know they did the xcross or favorite xcross today gets picked up of course but Kaiser man Kaiser's the new Merit he just get he runs into guys this year if you're noticing so go for it yeah I just I I you Dre Drake Bowen's a very physical kid but I've always had questions about his stiffness and then like in particular in his range like his range and you'll see Tim you'll see in the film like you can run away from Drake Bowen but like back to Osberry in KVA super loose player like as small as as small as an Osberry is if it's a 64 65 inside 66 tackle or whatever like you can reduce like watch go watch Fred Warner play tomorrow it's like you know they you it's a technique to like slip around those blocks versus trying to catch him all the time but uh yeah that was a I mean that was a frustrating game and Tim it just feels like a broken record doesn't it Bud conversations two three years running now and I until you can get a player that can like run himself open on the offensive side of the ball I I you know Den Brock's hands are tied to a degree but I think not playing love not going back to the quarterback run and like nut cutting time in this game that's you know that's absolutely coaching that's you're so right with the you know saying nut cutting you you can't lose this game so this was literally like trying to beat Alabama it's the same thing you you're it's a one-point game go win the game you had to win this game 1413 or 17713 or go score the interception was atrocious great house drops there's a field goal you know the the block before halftime holy moly well two blocks now obviously in this game it's hard on the last play 62 like you're there's no Waiver Wires you're not gonna just go cut somebody in free agent this is the football team you have so as someone who's watching these guys what the hell you been doing since January who who who is the go-to guy so they're going into this game Mike Den Brock and Marcus Freeman and these guys know they do not have a guy that could go deep they they how do you they know that we've seen it now in two games so there's nothing new that's gonna come it's Riley Leonard's gotta obviously complete some passes uh he oh shucks it's third and five sorry I threw it behind you like there's one once again great house is wide open over the middle of field he throws it his ass so like hit him in front he's running like gby talking that's one play he could have been catch and run there are no catch and run type of guy so you're gonna have to gr you know ground and pound Riley Leonard needs to probably run the ball more just to give you an extra hat in the box and then just find a way to get the ball I guess I mean if if we've seen anything after two games Bo Collins will compete so build a package around him competing whether it's 10 yard stops a quick post I mean he had hit a bounce pass to Chris Mitchell on a third and five freaking slant ball bounced to him so Collins needs to be the guy Mitch Evans obviously came back and looked solid um and then love you know love and price no running I don't think we saw a running back screen today so that's two games in a row we've only seen one I'm expecting more screens but um and then defense man you just got to stop the run I for as great as the A&M game was A&M got too cute and wanted to throw to beat Notre Dame is pretty easy you just keep doing the same damn thing you just play the Marshall game stack the Box No One's Gonna beat us outside we're gonna shoot safeties on on on run and then on defense make don't allow Al golden to play five and six DBS Al gold you know Notre Dame will not beat us playing three linebackers Notre Dame was in three linebackers 80 plus percent of the snaps today I think and then to add to that great job Tim being put on the spot but like specifically singer you know Riley talked about this during the offseason it's like he loves to just drift out to his right there's a couple formations cannot wait to watch the film but you've got was it tight trips or something to the field Tim so like you know to Riley's right is the short side of the field right we're into that boundary and it's like he just drifts away it's like all of his tools and all his weapons are out to his left and then he just inevitably rolls out drifts out to the right where he has a single receiver side right he he has no vision back to the field so I'd really like to work with Riley on like get into the pocket like step up into the pocket I earlier singer you were talking a little bit about his mechanics early in the show on the well I'm just saying like there's times where you I don't I'm no guru but like new age quarterbacks you know watch the Nebraska game tonight like you watch this Dylan rayola who's like a Patrick Mahomes clone like the the the the pockets are so condensed now that quarterbacks are like no longer do they you know step into that thing like a Drew bledo or a Troy Aman like they snap through their hips and Riley's doing like a lot of arm throws and stuff like stop drifting and like get in get up into the pocket and then the only other thing we show so many stop routes on film it's like eventually he had time today to throw where is a double move you know it'd be nice not to not to mention fa On's hurt too so I I mean he's one of your two or three best talents in the room at wide receiver and one of the with the highest level of compete but yeah and again I will Echo what Tim said on defensive side of the ball it's on film Tim you can shove it up our you know whereare defensively you just can't it's on film so it's like you've got to really spend time on inside run period and teaching the techniques of like getting off blocks or avoiding blocks like Jaden Ury puts on a clinic on how to do that just to jump off of that is as we heard all offseason oh we're going to see the spread Notre Dame's in doubles a ton they're in trips a ton they're in 11 personnel 99% of the time oh it's going to open up the Run game no it's not until you have a wide freaking receiver who can beat you so it's not that's all we heard and it's not no one respects it's it it is I me we're just talking in circles so you can do all the spreading out you want to do cover one cover zero all night long exactly it's it's this it's the same thing you know that's beat that's beaten Notre Dame and it's um it's it's it's frustrating this is why I'm gonna say it this is why Tommy ree went to 12 personnel and just said screw you we suck outside I have Michael Mayer Michael Mayer played wide receiver we he was he lined up outside as a wide receiver 90% of his snaps compared to inline tight end and that's what they did and they had to create running lanes and you create running Lanes with extra guys we just saw it by NIU NIU with extra guys in the Box create extra gaps you don't you you're limited in gaps when you go two by two so because no one's playing too high against Notre Dame no no one who the hell is gonna play too high safeties against Notre not until passing Downs right yeah exactly and then they're like even then why do it that NIU DC heated the crap out of Riley Leonard because you know you can't throw deep yeah they're in a bad I mean they're just in a they're in a bad place you've got a quarterback you very very you can easily question his accuracy and you've got an old line you're still trying to break in and then you don't have talent outside and then your best pass catcher Mitch Evans he's still trying to get his mojo back so I mean it's it's a bad place but then going back to what we talked about earlier run with what you got you know you got you can run your quarterback and you've got a really talented running back room yeah the whole the whole wide reer thing and we'll get into the film and see okay who's open who's just assume Notre Dame's more talented but they're just they not more talented today physically to just take that game over I mean especially on the opening drive the third quarter right they go right down love jumps over 16 guys does three back flips touchdown I'm like one of the best he just jumped over a dude so damn high and just you know prances into the end zone you're like all right man let's turn this thing up and by the way as much as we're poo pooing on the D they played they held him to 13 freaking points until that interception put him at Midfield that's the other thing that interception got ran back 30 plus yards so they held him at 13 yards they were just starting to get a Mojo forcing the ball obviously a pooch punt they stopped him on one fourth down so D was starting to do the thing it's just offense man one freaking score just one score out of those five drives uh or the four drives post the opening drive and they just they just couldn't which is just absolutely frustrating and um you we'll dive more into the plays and situations and that just they miss them easy passes to get mojo going and I I'm definitely gonna I mean price I love price but you're right yards a carry this week and it's just like get back to and then even on the defensive side the ball it's like he makes a play to get us back in the game injected into my veins singers as you love to side of the ball like ury's out there making some plays man you know it's like okay and then you they start to talk about him on air and then he's out the next series you know which got me back into like yeah the whole coaching and the rotation and maybe it's the nil it's too much too much and these big games these big environment it's like okay Osberry is on one right now it's just okay I'm my pick but year four for Freeman If he if they do not have a big year next year he is in he's in trouble and here's the thing about next year Tim new quarterback new receivers new tight ends o line Tim you potentially could return five you probably will sh could go pro I I don't know dline brand new dline linebackers you know that linebacker of course going to be pretty good if they keep everybody DBS a lot of new Watts lots of new guys you're gonna have gray Clark yeah yeah yeah gr maybe Mickey I I don't know yeah it's a next year's team is like brand new and even this year's team felt brand new new receivers right you know you lose SM new quarterback next year is like even more nervy next year's team on paper might be not even as talented so it's like Tim Tim I'm nervous I more thing Tim Freeman has a couple of the worst losses in in school history losing to Marshall and NIU at hes I mean Notre Dame no more scheduling g5s just you know play play you know Vandy or Missouri go go go play more SEC teams yeah it's funny you say all time because Air Force and night I still remember air air force in 96 when Bo Morgan ran like a machine and they beat Notre Damon overtime that that was a that's when Holtz knew he wasn't he was done that was a that was a kick in the ass in 9 six um but uh yeah Marshall was horrible Bob Davy just lost a better football teams when he was there same with Willingham the loss I I'm glad gby is not on because the BC loss in 2002 is just Notre Dame's number three in the country was just like bam just punched me in the face uh that that was so bad and then and then but that was the beginning of the end for Willingham because the rest of his tenure he was done a after that lost to BC and then Weiss just had the one horrible year and just lost to obviously Hughes and then Connecticut turned down you know and then Kelly Kelly had horrible losses early but I'm always with Brian Kelly with people always talk about oh he lost to tulson yeah was year one and and and Notre Dame just step back Notre Dame was a was was just bad football from 97 99 and it took and they were he wasn't going to clean it up in year one that's why they lost a toll set Navy ran the ball down their ass um and and went from there but Marshall and niu's worse than Marshall that Marshall team ended up a top 10 defense one like nine or t games I believe singer so we'll see what this NIU team does but um that was a good Marshall football team that year but you shouldn't lose a freaking Marshall for crying out loud this niu's 28 point Underdog playoffs last year with all that offensive Firepower but uh and then Dem brck comes he's got wisdom he's got age he's got all those things you know you can only you can only do so much and that's why I know gouby will probably agree with this when he and I talked so much during the off season was hoping he would you know gouby calls him miss you know mismatch Den Brock well there's no mismatches in the last two games I I don't know I mean I gouby gave him that little you know moniker but there's no mismatch the mismatch is thr to Malik neighbors that's the mismatch yeah you know it's like the mismatch is teams run too high without a spy Daniels runs 80 yards like against against Florida that's the mismatch uh there's just none of that and I saw in the comments someone just says I'm out of here I'm done I feel you buddy I really do because I feel like we've been talking about this for 30 freaking years and right when you think you're on the tip you come down a little bit um it's like 2015 I feel 2015 that was a national championship football team and they laid an egg against Clemson you know in the rain but then they got all the way back into the playoff hunt and the worst offense or worst defensive performance against a ranked team in Stanford and lost that at the end that was a gut wrencher but um I'm just talking about teams with expectations um this team had their expectations this year was literally we've been talking forever is about not not just the playoffs because none of has been to the playoffs it's final four Notre Dame's been to the final four three times you know championship game and Final Four counted three times um they haven't won a a big bowl well you don't get a big bowl unless you win round one and then next game is the neutral sits so we gonna is Notre Dame even gonna have a shot I mean seriously you watched Georgia last week how about Texas today even beat Michigan who has zero quarterback um yeah you know because they would just Hammer the ball uh but uh just frustrating I mean Georgia played a nobody today and played all backups the second half yeah oh man Nebraska I just I've got uh the USF I'm just gonna be complely honest I got the USF Bama game pulled up on my second monitor keep an eye on that Nebraska's up 14 z uh Dion's kid just threw a pick six and and backed up against his own uh up 73 in the second quarter DVR I know little little ankle sting or something like or if Notre Dame stinks so bad they have to they just make a change if Angeli plays well this year that that that's the variable for him to be the guy in 2025 if he balls out to the point like if he does get in the games and he is he has to play so well that Notre Dame does not have any other choice than to not start him in 2025 or Angeli if he plays this year year and doesn't do well then he kind of forces Notre Dame's hand and be like yeah sorry you're clearly not the guy we're going to go with Carr or minchi I I don't know if it would be minie I think it would be Carr next year and from what I had been told Tim Notre Dame has not and I've said this a bunch Notre Dame does not plan to go to the portal now as I'm going through this Spiel it it could be four out of five years that they go to the portal T it it it they might do it again they might have to I don't know like to to go get a starter I've also said this I believe if Notre Dame goes to Carr next year you could see angelli and Mig go right why would you sit behind a guy who's younger than you and then I think you would have to bring in like an FCS level transfer guy right go go get Harvard's quarterback or something to have some depth you can't go in with car and a true freshman as your your quarterbacks but anyways the Angeli thing is interesting I think if Notre Dame loses again God forbid they lose again and a bad loss to a Purdue or Miami Ohio sounds ridiculous but not name loss to NIU who knows maybe they do go in a different direction and go with he's a heck of an athlete he's pretty good intermediate which he showed today deep balls always scary his all in all his starts he's only completed 41% of passes past 20 years uh 20 yards excuse me uh during his Duke time and we've shown can't complete him here either so uh that's what's really frustrating um yeah the quarter right Ry Leonard's your quarterback because they didn't think the other three could could start correct but to your point if they go out there and Louisville kicks their ass in a couple of weeks because they don't block Gillette in that dline and two losses you're going to the freaking Gator Bowl the Outback Bowl the sunbowl the blue bonnet Bowl that's guaranteed do you start prepping for for 25 which is scary because going back to your point 15 minutes ago year four um Marcus Freeman's in his third year so Stephen jelly Stephen Jelly's been his backup for two of those Seasons he still went and got a transfer so obviously he knew it could have been a jelly Carr Minch or Minch Carr whatever those could have been the three quarterbacks this year he chose not to so for people thinking throw in jelly in there off of what that's what I don't understand I I I I don't know at least with Riley Leonard the dude's athletic as hell he can scramble and you can run him you can run him that's the biggest thing for me today you can run Mike Den Brock as you pointed out Mike his last carry was the 11 minute Mark in the second quarter so he literally goes almost three quarters without a carry after looking like Tim TBO the opening drive he can it it must have been something where he got banged up and they're just like We're not gonna run him anymore yeah to win a freaking game that that's what that that's what I'm starting to get pissed off about is you had to goal or you get a first down and a half you're in field goal range you know and and they just kept marching that though that whole time all right you're at Midfield defense is going to Rally up and stuff them and they just got they got whipped on that last Drive man just boom boom boom NIU got that because it was what what was the interception was it two minutes to go it's it's not it's not like who was a grocery remember working at a grocery store x five star at FIU been out of football like 18 months goes to Marshall runs for 150 against Al Golden's defense that day it's like just they gave up a 50 yard chunck run but we'll make the playoffs with 11 and one buddy Cameron I I will give you a virtual hug if that help happens okay yeah I mean okay there's there's two there's two parts of that that comment can it happen yes if they go 11 and one they they definitely can they they in my opinion would need help because it's not like you're you you would be getting in at 11 and one about money because it was it was broken down in the off season every year Notre Dame makes the playoffs they make more money as a program than the SEC teams do only the Big 10 with that TV contract makes more so this loss could be C Notre Dame $20 million yeah and they paid out 1.4 you paid exactly you and you gave Den Brock the contract you signed up mick signed up Golden didn't let Chad bow Dame is the only Power Team power Conference team did not play nine so everybody's playing nine so you're already climbing uphill that's why you can't lose to a game like this so I'm with you Mike
