ESPN updates new: CeeDee Lamb still waiting on that phone call; Ja'marr Chase is back and practicing

Jamar chase out on the practice field for the very first time that's according to NFL Network the star wide receiver has been a hold in at Bengals Camp as he tries to get a new contract from the team but time is running out for a new deal with the season opener against the Patriots now just two weeks away Chase has two years remaining on his current deal which includes his fifth year option in 2025 all right let's welcome in NFL analyst Ryan Wilson for more on this Bengals fans rejoicing probably some fantasy players rejoicing now that a top Target is back practicing Ryan what's your reaction to chase expanding his hold in to now include practice minimize the unforced errs and we've seen a lot of unforced Errors when we talk about teams like the Cowboys for example so if you can have your best players on the field ready to go for week one this feels like a step in the right direction and you talked about something that's very important with Jamar Chase Jeremy and that he still has two years left on his rookie deal this season and the Bengals picked up his fifth year option so they have him for next season as well and the Browns have made excuse me Mike Brown the the head of the Bengals has made it clear that it's probably more likely that they try to get something done after the season but he also said we are going to bend over backwards to keep Chase now obviously Chase feels differently he held in and he didn't take part uh in training camp and obviously preseason but Joe Boro did say this and they played together at LSU of course during that Championship run he said I only need one day to get back on the same page with Jamar and to your point that's incredibly important now that week one is here uh they're facing a Patriots team that's really good on defense that'll struggle on offense but you want to have all your weapons firing uh we know T Higgins is unhappy with his situation he's on the franchise tag and he'll probably be out of Cincinnati after this year uh but Jamar Chase is one of the best players at the wide receiver position in the league and then the question becomes shemy is he going to get Justin Jefferson money 35 million per or is it going to be something less than that and to Circle back to what Mike Brown said if you wait till the end of the season it's probably going to be north of that because he's set up to have a huge season with Joe burrow and that offense yeah you mentioned Jefferson getting paid Brandon iuk CD lamb they're next in line along with Chase so what does this hold in and the move to move back to practice potentially tell you about a possible Chase deal that could be coming so part of me wonders Jeremy if this is just Jamar understanding that he's out of Leverage now he could hold out the season but I don't know if that serves him well in the long run or even in terms of what his contract might look like in terms of being different should he not play at all I think he understands that he was making a statement and if something had gotten done up to this point contract wise he would have been happy about it but now he understands that he's got to play football so I don't know if this means that a deal is imminent but it does mean that he understands that he can go out there and ball out and make himself JJ or North money going into the 2025 season we're already looking ahead 12 months uh but I think it was a hold in to the point that was no longer feasible and now that he understands he has to play football he'll suit up and he'll be ready to go and I expect him to have a monster year yeah you look at the aavs there Jefferson at the top at 35 million his deal signed in June and then you have AJ Brown at 32 Aman Ross St Brown and Tyreek Hill in at 30 all right so what could Chase returning to practice possibly mean for another guy who's looking for a new contract CD lamb if anything yeah I'm not sure they feel like different situations and that CD came out a year ahead so he's ready to get paid Justin Jefferson got paid over two months ago they're in the same draft class Justin Jefferson was the one of the last wide receivers draft in the first round CI was one of the first and cidi has been every bit as productive as anyone on planet Earth he has been a huge part of why that offense has sizzled in recent years having Dak Prescott throw you the ball certainly helps in that regard as well uh but this team is not set up to have a lot of success throwing the ball without CD lamb no matter how healthy or how sharp Des Dak Prescott is back there it was good to see Jaylen Tober get some snaps during training camp and preseason and he's a young player that has a chance to come on they have veteran Brandon Cooks but you're not going to go very far without CD lamb and when will a contract get done uh your guess is as good as mine uh Jeremy I wanted to call you Jerry and part because Jerry Jones uh waivers back and forth about when this is going to happen he said there was no sense of urgency a few weeks ago CD lamb disagreed and if you look back to 2019 that's when Ezekiel ellot got his deal days before the start of that regular season so maybe that's what we're looking at here but the issue is unlike that time with with Zeke is that CD has to get paid 30 plus million Dak is going to need to get paid 50 plus million and then Michael Parsons uh one of the best players on defense in the league is going to get paid 30 plus million as well and when you do the math Jeremy that's currently 40 to 45% of your salary cap devoted to three players so things are a little more difficult to sort out in Dallas than they are in Cincinnati and part because Jamar has two years on this deal and CD only has one and part because they two other players are going to get big money deals as well so what's your confidence level that CD's deal gets done before Jamar chays at think it has to get done Jerry Jones could not not let that happen to to use a double negative there it has to get done I don't know what the foot foot dragon is about you get cidi done now and then you take care of Dak and Micah later again it should have been done a month ago but but here we are NFL analyst Ryan Wilson joining us to discuss the news Jamar Chase emyy hunt for more on this game emry we won't see Bo Knicks here but from what we have seen he's been pretty impressive completed 70 77% of his passes two touchdowns no interceptions on the resume thus far this season based on what you've seen based on what you know what's the outlook for Bo Knicks this season on a Denver team that's not expected to be very good I think we'll see a lot of what we saw in the preseason a lot of short quick passes to get the ball out of his hands quickly uh where he had issues at Oregon was consistently hitting the Deep ball and what we didn't see in the preseason is him hitting the Deep ball so that's why the percentages were up Sky they partially referring to the connection that that he has developed with top draft pick Marvin Harrison Jr Kyler's now two years removed from that ACL injury what are your expectations for him well Kyla clearly has been watching CBS Sports HQ and sports line cuz I've been on the over for the Cardinals All Season all off season long and for a lot of those reasons you mentioned Jeremy you talk about his second year in this in this offensive system fully healthy from the knee injury you add Marvin Harrison Jr Michael Wilson was a fantastic receiver last year he was my number one split in last season so you got two excellent receivers Greg dorch is another one Trey McBride is an excellent tight end we know about the running game and I think they've improved the offensive line enough to where they can have success offensively but I'm most excited about this Cardinals defense because selfishly when I look at my draft rankings for these players that they've drafted the last three years there's a lot of ones twos threes and fours so I'm like listen they've excelled in the draft so they are talented they just have to get consistency down to a more consistent level that makes sense and I think they'll do that this year which is why I'm big on the Cardinals playing for that six or seven seed the NFC Wild Card there we go look for that Cardinals defense according to Mr football game plan okay look your knowledge of the game is well established you're the only guy that I know that can talk NFL UFL and CFL in a single conver conversation so having examined these two rosters who is an under the radar player to watch in this game Xavier we Hever the wide receiver for I's say that fast Xavier Weaver the wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals the undrafted rookie for from Colorado he was my number eight split in and what I love about him is his release off the line of scrimmage he's able to stack and track the football you go back and watch him at Colorado he was shadur Sanders's number one option in clutch situations and he's been thriving in the preseason so he has worked himself into the two deep to where he's going to make this team strongly uh putting himself in position to make this team he just has to get a better number right now he's rocking number 30 at wide receiver that's not going to cut it but they'll give him a better number once they cut down his list of 53 but he's been standing out in the preseason I think he's going to have a sensational rookie season it's Sunday it's recovery mode right we just just we're just letting it roll here uh let's talk Wagers for this one Broncos are favored in this game at home the total sitting at 35 a half I think the the line was four points what's the play for you on the game I like the Broncos to win so I'm taking the Broncos to to take care of this ball game the reason why even though B knck is not going to play you know who else has been having a really good preseason Mr Zack Wilson he has been awesome in the preseason and this is another opportunity to where you can not only go out there and show that you are worthy of that first round pick that the Jets picked you a couple of years ago but you can make yourself valuable to another team that may want to trade for a wide rece or for a quarterback if you go out there and perform well like he's done all summer so I'm looking forward to seeing how Zach Wilson plays I've always been a big fan of his I'm glad he's able to calm down his game work with Shawn pton even Shawn pton unprovoked was like hey Zack Wilson has been killing it in training camp now he may be trying to sell somebody to go and come and get Zack Wilson but I truly believe he says that for a reason because he has been playing really well so I like the Broncos to win yeah given what he went through with the Jets last season it'd be nice to see Zach Wilson just have a nice calm season be able to establish himself kind of rebuild that NFL career all right in terms of season long win totals Broncos sitting at 5 and a half their favorites to go over that is that where you're laying your money emry I am and barely laying it over 5 and a half I think six is the number for Denver they are on a tougher side of the NFL conferences the AFC is a gauntlet and they're in the tough conference as well so I feel like when we look at the Broncos and what they have good defense Zack Allen you know Pat tan I like the rookie Jonah Ellis out of Utah and Ry Moss is coming on strong as a corner so I feel like defensively they'll be solid the offense can play fish like I talked about earlier and that can buy you about six wins so I feel like they'll go over this number they'll be competitive this year and then next year you can expect a breakout from Denver yeah those winds are going to be uh scattered across the board here as you look you wouldn't be surprised to see them one and three by the time they hit week five there all right for the Cardinals slated for seven and a half wins favor to go under that again do you agree or disagree listen if people just tuned into the Columbia broadcast station all summer like they should be doing they would have known why I outlaid the reasons for the Cardinals going over this number they will get nine wins in my opinion this is a very competitive team think about this remember last year when they lost kyum Murray and
