Los Angeles Rams Training Camp Update: Latest Injury News, Demarcus Robinson SZN?

I'm actually at Chargers Camp about to kick off but uh we're bringing you all things Rams here on the Rams skinny skinny what's up brother how we doing doing great only uh well this is the second to last day so one day left of of rams training camp it's bittersweet you know it's uh it's hard it's a it's they long days sometimes but uh it's awesome to be out here so yeah a little a little Bittersweet yeah it's always a lot of work but crazy how fast it goes by like just like that and it's two weeks in and then the final two weeks are just no media coverage they still obviously have camp and practice but um different schedules and whatnot so yeah it goes by fast but excited to talk with you about the Rams and hopefully some good news um real quick show is always brought to you by news yesterday or yeah yesterday Jonah Jackson out with a what was the official bruised uh scapula Bruce scapula Bru scap yeah the the Triangular bone in your your shoulder blade basically so the unfortunate thing about that is it's not related to his injury from last season it's a new one um so unfortunately good or bad yeah yeah I don't know if that's good or bad but just tweak something new um and then today new news the other stalwart on the offensive line Rob havenstein leaves practice what update do you have on on his injury status uh coach McVey didn't have a lot to say about it he said it was a foot uh maybe got stepped on as kind of what he said um yeah uh the the Jonah Jackson other the confusing updates are that the Rams official position is that Jonah Jackson is week to week um and then the national media your uh Mike Graal and uhh Adam shfs are saying more than that six weeks so in terms of havenstein still seems to be a wait and see I'll be back here on Saturday have an update for you then um and then then the final guy that's been struggling with injury is a tweaked to ankle aeric Jackson not out there today um but again McVey is not worried about that at time at this time uh but um you know today you could really feel the difference between uh the starting lineup for the uh for the for the Rams offensive line and their backups um there was a there was a big drop off there yeah and obviously we know from our last show that You' updated us that Joe Noom has been playing for lar Jackson at tackle were you able to see any more of who's kind of been playing for Jackson is it Bo limmer the rookie were we seeing Logan brus kind of making that jump maybe or are they kind of just doing a carousel guys uh the Warren McClendon was in for ra Rob havenstein after he went out and then uh 57 Zack Thomas in for um Jonah Jackson gotcha so not not great in the news that Logan bruss progressing if he's not even getting those those backup reps yeah that's another one that's a you know I they had more one-on ones today with the with the the pass rushers and the offensive linemen and th this Defense defensive line is looking is looking Stout in that kind of way where they're where they're able to to beat up on some of these guys on the offensive line uh you know we had all of our questions heading into the training camp was all about the defense and the defense is really other than a couple injuries on that side it's really coming together it's really looking uh pretty Fierce and and pretty strong and pretty energetic and Youthful and excited and the offense you know with these injuries it's it's hard hard to tell but that that outside of Cooper cup and outside of uh of Demarcus Robinson um there's just not a lot of pop on that so side so far uh not I'm not trying to be alarmist it's just uh how these things work sometimes when uh you're expecting one thing to expecting to see one thing and and the opposite is true so yeah that was kind of my large takeaway from today yeah well and we talked about it last show and I think that in in where we stand right now this is probably outside of the injuries of course terrible but where we saying right now that's probably the best news that the Rams could have and the Rams Fans could have is the fact that the defense is looking so good because those were all the questions like the offense will figure it out as long as they can get healthy um as long as that offensive line you know can come back come together and build that continuity before you know week one I don't think there's any question or any fear of the offense getting things going get the running game getting things going um so if there was a a unit that's quote unquote struggling that would be the one you'd want because you know they'll do it whereas if the defense looked like oh man this is gonna be a rough you don't know how long that thing is going to take to get going with the youth and the unknown and the fact that you're seeing like they're really balling out I mean these young guys are looking get on defensive front the secondary travius White's looking like old travius white a little bit like that's got to be really really encouraging and really really exciting yeah yeah absolutely you know I wrote about these injuries along the offensive line yesterday and it just occurred to me that you know this team is going to go this way the the offensive line goes if the offensive line all falls in together Offense uh and looks like it should look with the amount of money that they're spending there and the amount of draft Capital that they've used um yeah at at at the position um you know if if this is what the depth is offering you don't love that you don't love to see that and you know then then the next question is continuity heading into the season are they are they going to you know seem like one cohesive unit having if Jonah Jackson is out for the duration of of the rest of the offseason and preseason um is is he going to hit hit that first week is he going to play the second week we'll we'll wait and see on that but those are just questions that are you know obvious ones that just pop up yeah no absolutely and ones that will obviously monitor throughout the rest of the camp even uh during the the closed media time so um let's talk about the good of the offense and um obviously Cooper cup pukan COA are who they are and they look to be Prime and ready to go puku was just on Sports Center I think this morning um the beauty of having you know espnla right here in our in our confines he was in studio before training camp um but just talked about you know how his expectations and and now his expectations are high but when you have a guy like Cooper cup leading that room everyone's expectations are high and I think the exciting thing that you've seen and we've talked about but I'll I'll turn it over to you is Demarcus Robinson and really looks like he's coming into his own as that wide receiver three that we kind of thought he would be he we we slated him as our wide receiver three but from what you've seen and written it certainly feels that he has taken a firm grasp of that but what just talk more about Demarcus Robinson and His Kind of Ingenuity in this offense thus far yeah that was my question for uh Chris or uh for uh Mike Mike laflor yesterday at the podium was you know what does he bring uh and he stopped me before I even got the question out he said energy he's bringing a lot of energy and it's interesting because uh you see a lot of the the second and third string guys the depth guys at the position going to him um that's an interesting thing to see obviously they're going to go to Cooper cup and they're going to go go to pukaa but there's a there's a certain camaraderie there's a certain um Brotherhood or something like that that exists among the rest of the receivers and him um so you know it's a leadership role it's a uh you know like a a consola you know like uh what am I trying to say like uh you know they're going they're going to him to to find out what they did right and what they did wrong and um you know that's that's a really impressive thing to see uh for a second-year receiver um you know and and LeFleur also said that he's he's really hard to cover because he has a unique wiggle uh other guys use wiggle um but you know we've been seeing a lot of of trips uh sets with three rece three receivers on one side uh and with th three those three guys uh you know cup puka and you know Demarcus you got not only do you have three really good receivers you got three guys that can beat you in different ways and that's that's what we're seeing here is uh even the even the Rams defense is struggling to keep up with that and you know who who's going to take who you know oh man the route Tre combination that you can do with those three on one side has to have leflour and McVey just salivating what they can do with that because all guys with elusive speed you got Dr Rob has that jump ball capability that is a little bit you know lengthier than maybe AA and cup but all of them can go over the middle all of them go on the outside all of them can can do drag routes like it's just got to be so much fun as an offensive mind to to you know go to those two and I think or go to those three excuse me I think um you know we knew all offseason how great cup and ncua could be together now we need to see them at that elevated level fully healthy together but big question was who truly was going to be that third receiving option like you Rams might have the best two receivers in football but it seemed like it was going to be a significant drop off to that wide receiver three but if Demarcus Robinson is looking as comfortable taking that lead ERS ship role on and the skill set that he does have that he provides to that room I think you can start to see and we're getting ahead of ourselves we haven't got to week one a preseason yet but you could start to then make the argument that this three-headed receiver room truly is with some of the best in all of football so I mean that's great to see and shout out to you your your question was used on the the Rams Twitter so you know making Making Waves there yeah made my my cold dark heart feel nice and warm your G CH I guess yeah exactly grew three sizes um special shout out to uh JJ lap with two A's as I like to say uh on the on the third team but he just broke a route just beat his man pure speed caught just probably the deepest touchdown of the day without his helmet on he looks maybe just out of Middle School uh but uh he's a he's a man out there lap with two A's who threw it who was a was it Steady B to lap ston Ste Steady B to Double A's okay yeah I'm not I'm not entirely sure uh Jimmy grappolo could have made that throw though after he had he had a terrible day today I'm sorry to report that I don't want to talk about bad news that much but uh he he had a couple interceptions didn't look like he could uh get the ball down field outside the numbers any of that stuff so you know one bad day and you're saying that was Jimmy G had that bad day Jimmy G yeah yeah yeah okay so but he only one rep uh one series for for ston Bennett today okay good that's good but that would indicate based on what we were talking about last show that it's still uh garoo like firmly as qb2 at this point yeah absolutely even with the bad day okay um well yeah getting over to the defensive side um you know I don't think any injuries from defense today right I think we the defense made it out clear the offense did not but defense made out clear how has you know we've talked about the secondary we've talked about the defensive line um I have a followup on the defensive line but I want start first with with Ernest Jones in the linebacker room I I don't think we've hit them yet and Jones obviously is one of the Premier players on this defense um in linebacker is hard to really analyze in training camp because you're not you're not tackling and and so you're just kind of seeing them in in individuals or just seeing if they're in the right places during 11on 11s but how's ER Jones look to you I know he's your guy so give you some shine on ER Jones he's looks so phenomenal man uh he's just looking sharp he's looking more and more EJ Gaines confident um you know his his vocal leadership is very apparent out here um you know he's he's taunting guys on the opposite side he's talking his guys up on the defensive side um you know he he's he's just a a True Heart and Soul of this team um which is which is great to see and uh you know it's just all pointing towards that second contract for him as we've talked about not a lot of uh draft picks get that second contract for the Rams I think this is going to be one it it needs to be one it needs to be one um I love just seeing you light up when you talk about EJ uh you can see a light out has there been any other backers because you know as of now we I would say we both feel that probably Christian nose roseboom is the you know other starting linebacker obviously they play a lot of one backer sets um we've seen in the past so probably won't it's like he's out there every single play but it does it seem like he's firmly in that or what have you seen from the other backers in the room yeah there hasn't been a lot of rotation in on the first team with the linebackers it's been pretty pretty much set you know they they'll test guys in and in and out on the defensive line in the secondary not so much at the linebacker and you know it's you know if if the guys are if those are your guys that are communicating the most to the defense you want them you know available and in there as much as possible so in a way I guess that makes sense but uh you know my my my guy uh ola kunle fasi nice you know still still making plays still making plays love it that's great hopefully he'll make the team so um and Christian roseb you know great great head of lettuce so can't can't be understated on that um quickly I wanted to follow up on um on Bobby Brown talked about him last show uh you know seemingly McVey a little bit frustrated peeved whatever you want to call it it seemed like Bobby Brown just decided to kind of finish up practice a little early you WR an article about it as well any update on that did he look to to bounce back or or is he in the dogh Bobby Brown house or what's going on with our guy freaking Bobby Brown man that's a quote from sea McVey right there freaking Bobby Brown no he actually had a fantastic day today he was in the back field several times couple of run stuffs uh and a couple of sacks today so you know and and Sean McVey made a point to call him out in his press conference today so you know you know still in the good graces still probably going to be uh fighting for uh playing time on the front with all those new guys but he's going to have some playing time for sure um you know the you know Byron young also had a fantastic day today as well um again a couple of sacks uh a couple of run stops looking good in coverage too getting outside they were doing a lot of Swing passes uh out of the back field uh getting Kiren kind of involved in that so that was kind of fun to see where you were able to see particularly Ernest Jones and then those two outside line linebackers uh kind of working left to right uh on those plays yeah that's fantastic that's good um and then then who has when Brown has not been at has it been Laurel merchon or who's kind of the other kind of interior guys that have been playing alongside Fisk that you've seen yeah there there's been a heavy rotation um Tyler Davis rookie hasn't hasn't cracked into that rotation but uh yeah L Laurel merchon definitely uh main stay up there Dean Johnson I saw him in there a couple of times uh Cory Duran in there a couple of times so yeah it's all you know they they're testing everybody out uh because you want you want that big rotation you want to you want uh certain guys for certain downs and distances and and programs so yeah they're they're trying them all out and based on the the skill set and just the the level of I this come off the wrong way but the level of talent being there there isn't an Aaron Donald like there's going to be a rotation this season you're not going to probably have four set guys in on 95% of the plays um specifically at the interior so um you know that that kind of being said any Kobe Turner Kobe Turner update I know he's been banged up throughout Camp saw that uh he did maybe make an appearance today what can you tell us about uh arguably outside of Ernest Jones the next best thing on the defense yeah he's he was back in today and uh looking good uh McVey called him out in the press in the press conference as well uh said his presence was was felt and um you know he you know he was really getting after it you know he really was uh uh making an impact today um probably the heart and soul of it maybe that's why they look even better today than they have in the other days um having having him in there um so yeah it's it's it's exciting to see this defense really coming together it's it's really fascinating like I was saying kind of unexpected yeah I mean geez something's in the water I guess this defense because last year our slogan was better than expected and they're just rolling that right into 2024 I guess better than expected let's hope so take that I guess yeah let's take that so um um well great well it sounds like it's been a great day at Camp obviously you'll be out there again on Saturday for the final media day at Camp any other kind of final notes that you want to share do we kind of hit all the the main topics there the last thing of the day was a uh a foot race between two of the strength and conditioning coaches apparently they had been going back and forth at each other about who who is faster uh I don't know their names and I don't know who won but uh McVey said it was really important for the guys to find out exactly uh who who was the fastest strengthening conditioning coach on the staff and uh McVey said it was a slow motion 40 for sure and McVey didn't get involved in that race he let them just hash out he didn't he did not I bet of all the coaches he's got to be the fastest right I mean Aubrey Pleasant might I me yeah uh I I would probably give uh who's the wide receiver what's the wide receivers Cut's name I'm just blanking on it right now Outro um uh yo yber yeah uh you know I think he I think he's got some wheels on him I think he's he's kind of a wiry guy I bet I bet he could put the burners on for 40 yards I'd be curious I I mean is this camp like other camps where McVey is always like running around and like literally playing Corner against the receivers on individuals and stuff oh yeah definitely yeah and you know the Flur out there I haven't seen too much out uh on the field doing that stuff but uh yeah all all those coaches are really getting involved on the field real active group real active group keeping H keeping the guys honest that's that's what you want to see so well another great uh camper Court skinny te looks like looks like you're getting the Sunshine's coming out down there so that's good the clouds may be away it is yeah we were getting some raindrops earlier and it was a little chilly when we first came out so this is nice I know I was telling you when we logged on like I left from Pasadena I'm down here in elag gundo now for Chargers camp and it's like a 23 degree difference uh did not prepare for cooler Beach weather uh so we'll see how the evening goes but it might be a little chilly down here at least you got sunshine now yeah yeah hopefully it it holds out for you yeah so well that will do it here for this episode of The Ram skinny
