EA College Football Simulations Game 7 TCU @Stanford (8/30/24 Prediction)

[Laughter] [Music] Stanford University a Bastion of Academia and the alom of some of college football's most legendary figures Elway luck Sherman and mcaffrey and today the Stanford Cardinal will try to live up to that Legacy there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the Big 12 the TCU horn frogs taking on a team from the ACC the Stanford Cardinal for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started and the horn frogs will put total leather to crank us up and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 so Stanford offense will take the first swing of the game and here he comes a man who epitomizes the phrase the tight ends always open David and yes he is Reese and it's so cool the tight end position now has evolved so much you can move him all over the and the heat will get home and the quarterback goes down at the 17 well coaches watch tape all week and they get so excited first play Let's make a statement this offense tries to come out and throw it under the lights all the excitement and what do they do they forget to protect their quarterback and they give up a sack on the first play they come to the line hoping to get some of that yardage back from the 17 wide receiver shows motion the give out of the gun a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 looking to throw it's Daniels fires one high and deep and he reels it in inside the 30 touchdown Cardinal made the snag and Str hold his way into the end zone one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play lining up to attack one more under that lead and the extra point is good and it's 7 nothing quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they top it off by going up top 81 yds on the touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 so tcu's offense will get the ball for the first time here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they and immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys of the leaders these are guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed the horn frogs want to crank the tempo from the gun the ground game Gun Room at the 35 they wrestle him to the the ground but he's got plenty for a first down defense is going to have their hands full trying to get this guy in the ground man he's got some serious moves once he has the ball in his hands now from the 40 it's first and 10 they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and you want to run the football that's okay you'll take some of these but if they start to add up down the road obviously you might want to think about Aaron and out didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they're looking for an advantage to the right and they'll bring him down after a short Pickup 4 third down some third down conversions tougher than others this one a long one on third down from the 43 looking downfield it's Hoover they'll throw it to the back on the screen and they knocked him down but he got past the line to Game quarterbacks are just like anybody else they get in rhythms and and to get in the Rhythm early on third down and have a little success here and get the sticks moving great chance to continue to get this offense moving down the field to get some more points and the horn frogs have their offense in high gear the give to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is it yards per run they look at how many negative plays they can create cuz why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down lost one on that last one it's second and 11 they'll run it from the gun that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs a third and long coming up here from the gun wants to pass throws to the wide out and that ball is picked off bringing it back he's out of bounds showing off the hands on the pick and then the Nifty moves on a terrific return why I love the job by the coaching staff there defensively matching the Personnel of the offense putting their dime package out on the field so you bring out the extra defensive back you're anticipating a pass perfect timing to run that personnel and you get the P Stanford has it back back the Cardinal offense returning to the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one dve let's see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on so they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered up after the productive first down play it's second and six trying play action hit as he throws got it in the middle it's I man makes the grab over the defense and they are threatening now down at the 15 and those long shots man I tell you what it takes a little bit longer to develop so as a quarterback you know you got to buy a little bit of time mad respect man hanging in there knowing he's going to get hit but still making the big play play down the field receiver on the Move gets the touch pass and they'll stop him just short of the first down just inches away from moving the sticks well in that down in distance you're probably expecting them to throw it way down the field to get the first instead they go push pass and they did catch the defense off guard and even though that was a big explosive play David he still didn't have enough yards to get it well and catch me off guard as relative that's what you would say the offensive player I would say listen we're playing a little bit deeper cuz we're not going to give up a first down we react to the short stuff and obviously that's a quick easy pass from the offense rally up make the play Live to fight another down tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can pick up a first down without scoring third down looking to throw for it got it and he won't be able to get in as the defense gets him down at the one third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most yeah it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you turning to the running game on first and goal and he takes it to the house touchdown Stanford well well well somebody's been doing their box jumps you ain't lying getting up in the air Hey listen I'm taking a picture of that saving it that might be my screen saver on my phone that vertical way up in the [Music] air he'll try to add another to the lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they capped it off with a one yd Pune about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 TCU will send its offense back onto the field to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing on all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense safe completion on the screen hard hitting tackle I want to get my running backs the ball in space as much as possible and sometimes it doesn't work in the running game but I can throw it to him I can try to create some space out wide dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out of the horn frogs are in the hurry up and works it to the 40y line that'll be a first down he did a really good job on third down knowing where the sticks were making sure he got past it listen quarterbacks can get hit near the goal line punching in on third down those are those situations where it's okay to put the quarterback's body on the line and the horn frogs come to the line with a new set of downs quick strike complete they'll get him down but not before he crosses the 50 he's down to the 49 that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab yeah and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot is he can go either direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties looking for a gap it's cook he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few on defense man it helps you a lot when you can be a linebacker or a corner or safety anybody and you see the QB throw the football now I can break on the football right away and limit gains like right here on this play looking to push the pace with the no huddle give to the running back relying on that running game and it works for about three yds to the 31 yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the tempo run the football be consistent make that defense physically meet the challenge this will be the seventh play of the drive and they need to convert third and six back to throw it's Hoover can't find a man and he'll be knocked down at the 40 and you usually don't bring in dime packages for running teams you bring in dime because you know they're going to throw the football you got more speed on the back end to cover and defensive linemen know they have their job to do and their job is to go get that quarterback and get that sucker on the ground the horn frogs will line up to punt it away he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep and that punt will Sail Out of Bounds let's see where the officials spotted man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out on first down here comes this offense now they'll try the right side and this one will be stopped for no gain and just a great job by the defense being Stout right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get in more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 quarterback on the keeper he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three they're trying to go option and they're trying to put that defensive end in the bind but he's just way too athletic and he guessed right the quarterback was keeping the ball he knew it and was able to make the tackle in the back field you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 he took a hit as he threw it and couldn't deliver the football it's incomplete and fourth Down's coming we're already in the first quarter but already you get the feeling this is could be a long day for this QB he's already been sacked he gets hit right there on the incomplete throw they've got to find a way to do a better job up front of protecting this guy or it's going to be difficult to put up points fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way hand goes into the air for the fair Catch and the catch is made around the 40 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense out of the shoot quick toss to the right and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three you know the short passing game is a great go-to weapon for any offense of coordinator in the first quarter because it's reliable obviously but it also allows you to see how the defense is going to react and play you so for coordinators this can really open up the rest of your playbook for the rest of the game and the horn frogs in the hurry up pulls it and fires to the left they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks love the way he didn't just run to a spot he found the cushion in the zone and got himself open for the first down yeah and you're taught to find that space don't run right into a Zone Defender who's sitting there looking at the quarterback and looking at you so much creativity with routes now of being able to just have subtle moves One Way come back the other way nice job by the tight end finding that hole in the zone he tosses one high and deep down the left side and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on and the offense clearly saying we want to take those deep shots we want to be aggressive and and I think that's a good strategy because makes the defense really honor what you're going to do and just missed a little bit but I wouldn't be surprised if this offense finds a way to come back to some of those deep BS using the quick game open space of the 25 and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game the horn frogs are on the move running back searching for a hole and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that this is a defense that we know takes tons of Pride stopping the Run that's where it all starts and ends with them and you saw great effort on that last play going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone scanning the field it's Hoover got it and he's into the end zone touchdown TCU and what an I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting a touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense [Music] ready to try the point after and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish it by firing one in from the 13 for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field off the play fake on first down to throw gets it out quickly they get him down after he makes the catch yeah and you see runningbacks in today's football they play a wide receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently still some work to do after that last completion at second down he's looking to throw gets it out fast and they reacted well to the completion but it was too L to keep them from getting the first down it's not a great feeling on defense too when you're blitzing you're expecting to get a sack you're expecting to get a hit on the quarterback if the offensive line and running backs p it up uh-oh because now you have one less guy in the back end trying to cover all these receivers and tight ends and you know you're in trouble keeping it on the ground with the running back and they'll make the Stop and we are headed to the end of the first period at the end of the quarter it is Stanford holding the edge we' played one before we move on let's have a look at the stats [Music] and they've swapped into of the field and we'll get it going in the second kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line wide receiver now comes in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep can anyone catch him and they get him down at the 43 but this is the kind of explosive play you want to build on yeah would it be creative way to get the ball in the perimeter really quickly get some speed outside all you got to do is secure that edge and you're just trying to get that first down nice job nice play call by the offense Stanford going back to work with another first down leaves it with the running back brought down at the 28 a chunk play 15 yds on that one and a first down all right well look I know the defense was feeling really good about their rund de coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on a defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this and they're going to be successful on offense well you know who's got to love this offense picking up so many first downs it's their own defense David I know know you love playing on teams with great offenses inside the 15 first and 10 from the 14 power football with the Run Relentless tough R and gets it down to the four and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making a good run great job finishing with his PS going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of perer Stanford comes up with a first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and on that situation on the one yd line the defense brings so many guys Palmer Gets In The Back Field creates the negative play yeah I think we're seeing the overall athleticism of this defense they've got guys flying to the ball and the D Deni him on second and goal and the ball comes out Out close to the goal line defense falls on the ball going to be a turnover oh and it's a hit like that that will absolutely light up the sideline light up the stadium change the momentum and help you win a football game because that hit is what caused that fumble TCU will send its offense back onto the field David they' love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they executed and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well and I'd love to see that here on the next drive too just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their heels and the horn frogs want to pick up the tempo he leaves it with his back back gets the nose of the ball to the 25 give him one you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs so they're facing third and short from the 25 to the air it's Hoover fires to the wide out complete downfield he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down man they needed that one and that took every bit of concentration by the wide receiver there that was awesome big third down you got to make the catch but you got to make sure you stay in bounds you did a really good job of securing that and keeping the chains moving quickly out to the tight end and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones you got to get him involved just had a solid pickup on first now let's see what they've got on second down from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back nice solid form tackle from this sophomore third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here from the gun wants to pass caught close to the marker it's Richardson and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good reys at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on Third and short and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf well this defense knew coming in they were going to see some RPL and they were going to see some quick game a nice job there taking the throw away from the quarterback now on second down after the incompletion to throw it's Hoover getting some heat and he can't escape and down he goes this defense they are tenacious and they've got guys up front that are athletic and that are so strong in the could collapse the pocket you saw it right there in that play action attempt and they've converted their first two third down opportunities but a third and long is a different animal looking downfield and he needs a bunch they've got the screen set up oh there's the ball defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery defensive coordinators always preach swatting and batting at the football and trying to punch it out trying to dislodge the ball from the ball carrier and boy they did it right [Music] there Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field that last drive and the turnover not what you're looking for when you have the lead Jesse Yeah and really I think for them it's just staying out of their own way they're making plays they've got The Playmakers to go and win this game so it's just a matter of executing better D executing better understanding I still got the lead put a drive together here and build on that lead that incompletion leads to Second down and 10 to the ground with the back makes one man miss finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play they get just enough to keep the drive alive from the 33 it's first and 10 used the play fake now to throw but it f excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away Zone coverage that time in the cornerback a nice job with his eyes he's watching the quarterback he sees the ball thrown so he knows exactly when to break on it he's able to break it up for an incompletion now on second down dropping back it's Daniels grabs it in the middle he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down I don't know if that was a bust defensively but there was nobody in the middle of the field that time making it way too easy for the offense to pick up a chunk play in the middle this Stanford offense is humming set up with another first down leaves it with the back they pull him down at the 17 after a pickup of three I like my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven he's looking to throw a shot toward the end zone and he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity but it's incomplete and listen as a quarterback you're trying to find the matchup trying to find who's open I don't know if anybody was open but that was not a greatly thrown football I don't know if it was miscommunication but the ball thrown out of bounds and and just on to the next down they couldn't make the connection on second down now a third and seven to keep the drive alive unloads to the white out touchdown cardal reeled it in and just made the house call these two have spent plenty of time together that was almost telepathic David no doubt in quarterbacks and wide receivers throw all off season to get on the same page you can see he hits him in stride that's why he gets the [Music] touchd lining up to tack one more onto that lead extra point and the extra point pushes to lead to 14 so that drive covered just 44 yds and the score comes on a 17 yd throw for the touchdown the kickoff uned about to go to work on the move from inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 177 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here here make something happen on this side of the football motion from the offense off the play fake on first down to throw and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense well I think one of the biggest reasons why this team is finding themselves in a hole here in the first half is this has been a sack party they can't keep the defense off of their quarterback they haven't been able to get the ball deep down the field throwing it with the consistency they want because they can't keep their quarterback standing up straight these guys are bringing serious heat they are like sharks swarming and just getting after the passer good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets up to the 38 yd line I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm and they got him he'll get him down for the sack what a great job by this defense setting the toone early in the first half they've been hitting the quarterback early and often make him feel uncomfortable make him feel that pressure keep getting him on the ground that's why they built the lead the horn frogs will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and the punt team gets down there and gets the Return Man On The Ground the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing problem yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place and here comes the offense on second down to the air it's Daniels working that left side now they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down you know sometimes when you're throwing against Zone coverage you need time for the routes to develop so nice job by the quarterback there being patient allowing his receivers to work themselves open this defense will try to force a fourth down on Third and short from the 45 he'll try to pick it up on the ground found enough room to get it into enemy territory they're down at the 43 yd line this running back loves running into the teeth of the defense in between the tackles he keeps a low pad level and he's got some speed Stanford gets set to snap it on first down might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again he will step out of bounds but not before with a big pick up and a first down for this offense right away after picking up the first down they go right back to their playmaker at running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the back and you become so hard to defend when you can run the football successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up play action now you're making me play pass and run this offense if they can create that run physicality now it opens up everything everything else man this quarterback is having a first half he's over 200 ydd already heating up setting up this dude might break his career high in passing I don't know what it is somebody get stats for him now down to the 12 yd line it's first down takes this hand off and headed to the right here is trying to bash It Forward he got a couple it's down at the 11 operating in the Red Zone here on second down they go to the ground touchdown Stanford and they K it in for six more points another rushing touchdown that's now two on the game this offense thought they could come into this one running the ball being the more physical team and they look like it right [Music] now on to attempt the TR is on for the exra and and they knock through the extra point and they're up 28 to7 so the touchdown Drive goes 63 yds and it was punctuated by an 11 yd Run for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown just into the end zone and he'll bring it out pulled down at the 18 and the decision to bring it out of the end zone was not a good one TCU will send its offense back onto the field dropping back it's Hoover they're down by 21 points but you got a touch down here and you do at least apply a little game pressure Jesse it's true I think for them to get back in this one at this point now they need the quarterback to play his best football he's going to have to be good really pre- snap David making sure they're in the right looks and he's got to be really good with his decision making he's got to be dowed in because defensively you're giving up points so it's not like you have the luxury of your defense playing great the offense is going to have to score and score pretty dang quickly finds a man on the left building momentum picking up a chunk of yardage moving the chains out to the 34 and I love the awareness by the wide receiver on that play because I'm not sure that route was supposed to be that deep you got to wonder if the receiver decided maybe to adjust the route a little bit to make sure that he got the first down now give it to the back they'll wrestle him down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one yeah that would be the definition of first down success putting yourself in a good position it's second in inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution from the gun give on the inside and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down and this offense is clicking everything's moving and the guy carrying the football I mean he is carrying the rock like this is a guy that's he's setting his tone for this game creating some balance on this offense this offense is going to be a handful yeah David I'd love to sit here and say well the offensive coordinator is just one step ahead of his counterpart across the field that's not it right now his offensive line is establishing the line of scrimmage and you mentioned in the back he right now is running with authority on this drive good solid pick up there now they can start to smell it with a first down at the 31 and the horn frogs come to the line with a fresh set of downs dropping back it's Hoover finds a spot in the middle just a quick Rhythm throw there and really good use of the tight end yeah good use of the big fell I mean go through your progressions real quick you can't find anything get the easy gain don't take a shot down the field all the time take those shots later but take those easy wideopen opportunities to get some positive chunks on second down he'll fire pressure coming seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down from the gun wants to pass and he just throws away on third down I don't think you can give up on a play like that and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third and long so hard to execute especially when the field starts to shrink but the good news is they got a field goal in their back pocket they'll send out the kicker here and very important not only to generate power but to find his Mark a 49 yd try from the left and that is no good after the Miss field goal still down by 21 points [Music] [Music] guys Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field this has been an impressive first half and Jesse they love nothing better than to tack another one on before the break why would they want to stop at this point everything they've dialed up they've been able to execute throwing and running the football Bame and how critical is it for this defense to get a stop down right now before the half they can create some momentum on their side by getting a stop before the half looking for a man it's Daniels and that's going to fall to the ground incomplete that was a physical matchup there third down coming [Music] trying to pick up a first down they'll throw on Third and short he finds his man nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding that it's Zone coverage on third down you're going to have to find someone working into a soft spot get the ball out of your hands quickly make an accurate at throw and pick up the first well done now on first down from the 43 yd line he wants to throw finds his big tight end they've got it inside the 30 they'll mark it at the 28 it's first down the offense calls timeout it's the second one they've used this half now on the move at the 28 yd line on first down he's looking to throw it fires to the right a strike downfield they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down man this defense they have got to get better in coverage if they want to get off the field anytime soon you keep defending like that this offense might hang 50 on you by the end of the game this offense has been running up and down the field and here they are first and goal a chance to tack on another one before halftime looking to the end zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score well the game plan's been pretty simple offensively right they are taking shots and they're being aggressive throwing it down the field this guy's already got two touchdown passes we're still in the first half and on that last one he was looking for number three just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime looking to throw it's Daniels snags it they will score touchdown cardinal for [Music] [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead they took it 68 yds on that drive and they finish it up with a three yd scoring toss so here comes the kickoff after the touchdown and the last thing you need right before the half is to give up a big return he'll bring BR it out from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 under a minute to play here in the first half and the offense will take a knee and that is how we'll wrap up the first half we played two job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense huge deficit to start this third quarter they just need to find something to build a little confidence yeah it hasn't gone well um when you're trailing by this much this first drive man is everything matter and hinge on this cuz every possession in the second half is going to be critical yeah and I think if you're on offense why hold back what are you worried about nothing went well in the first half for you and at this point trailing by as much as you are throw caution to the wind be aggressive and let's just see what happens back to throw it's Hoover quickly complete they've got it out to the 34 after getting five there you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now they may want to think think about bracketing him having a Defender play to the outside and to the inside probably some sort of Zone coverage where you're trying to get two bodies forcing the quarterback to have to go somewhere else with the ball they'll leave it with him just sort of a Relentless run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 you see they need more runs like that it's just it's been so few and far between defensively they've been in position they've been winning their one-on-one battles getting off of blocks and rallying to the ball carrier this defense has done a nice job slowing down the Run game thus far the play action fake oh he wants it all and they wanted it all on that incomplete pass instead they're looking at third down well this defense has been lights out for the majority of this football game they did give up a score to this guy but they know who the big weapon is they know where the quarterback is is going to be looking so here in the second half they're going to have a plan for him and they did on that last one lining up trying to convert this third and short from the 40 caught on the outside it's Williams he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks now we'll hang on here the coach is called a timeout he wants the officials to take another look thinks he's got a good shot at getting this one overturned he spun that Wheel of Fortune by challenging the call and it does not go his way and he loses the timeout the horn frogs are marching down the field wants to throw it's Hoover he's got his man and he'll run across the sidelines after the good game my coach said don't never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complain he'll send out five wide receivers on second and four he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three [Music] they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knock the ball to the ground fourth down coming up this is a point where you just got to be able to focus in the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play and the horn frogs will send out the punt unit let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one you couldn't dial it up much better than that as he knocks it out of bounds inside the 10 yd linei defense so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keep this drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty they'll try the Run Stop just inside the 25 will'll mark it at the 24 pick up of 10 and a first down well you wonder if one of the adjustments they made at halftime trailing in this game was to try and get the ground game established D and they're off to a good start here dang right stay patient you don't have to worry about it you don't have to press just try to get scoring Drives together don't abandon the run off the play fake on first down wants to throw and that's just a flat misfire not even close to his receiver and I've been there fellas this is no fun if you're a quarterback all game long you've got guys in your lap you've got guys chasing you all the way across the field you just never feel like you can get in a rhythm because this pass rush is in your face all day off the play F pressure is on the way and the pressure has arrived and down he goes goes at the 30 this quarterback is thinking to himself I need to get an nil deal at some restaurant so I can take my offensive line out and feed them more because I don't think they like me very much right now I've been sacked six times in this game it's time to get that New niil Deal paycheck they've methodically worked it down the field this the 11th play of the drive but the defense can get off the field now Ires deep toward the end zone and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down third and long situations are really hard to convert the defense knows it's going to be pass the pass rushers are getting up field you're under pressure you don't have timing and as a result now fourth down and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight he's got it showing off that big leg from 47 yards out [Music] so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down he'll bring it back from inside his five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field out of the gun to give to the back just gets it to the 208 pick up of one down y up [Music] second didn't get much on first down it's second and nine back to pass it's Daniels firing to the right complete and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few oo and that was close for the offense they try to go wide receiver screen they're counting on that receiver beating that Defender wasn't able to make him miss that time but if I'm on offense I'm going back to that play later picked up some yards on the last completion but it's third down now the play fake snagged in the middle it's rockme and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains and with that pass right there over 300 ydd that's a good day at the office being able to execute doing a good job seeing what's coming anticipating taking some shots today but has held really strong put up some good numbers hands it off at the 45 on it way in his sophomore season he's really learned to find that Running Room there's really no secret to it David when this guy's running well this offense is so hard to stop it opens up everything and he's having a great day showing you a little bit of everything and this offense has got it rolling on the ground this Stanford offense moving quickly down the field they're getting this guy lathered up and he doesn't find much Running Room a short gain on the play this just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down got three on first down it's second and seven he's looking to throw quickly complete and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down you know often times these slot receivers they're not the biggest guys in the world but they're really good at finding the Open Spaces in the middle of the field and you saw that guy attack the defense in the perfect spot making life easy for his QB Stanford going back to work with another first down the give to the back fighting off the defender and he'll pick up the first down after a tough run there no surprise I mean with the way they're running the ball early in this game they're just going to keep doing it and they're just not hammering out two three4 yd gains they're gashing this defense you saw it right there down to the 18 yd line it's first and 10 from the Red Zone he's going to throw it let if fly touchdown Stanford and the beat down has ensued know quarterbacks and receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page [Music] he'll try to tack on one more and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further they put together an 81 yd drive and the finisher an 18yd touchdown [Music] throw they're just about ready to kick it away he'll start the return inside his five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 TCU will send its offense back onto the field wants to throw on first down off the play fake unloads to the right he's got an open man and an explosive play has him on the move and he gets it all the way to the 48 yd line that's a beautiful pass catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the defense with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his receiver more room to work his route you get a play like that and you feel like you can go in and finish the deal it'll be first and 10 from just inside the 50 One Step WRA two-step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell after picking up a couple it's second and eight quick touch pass to the receiver and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land you got to Fight Fire with Fire you got to fight speed with speed there's a receiver with the ball out in the open field trying to get the corner but a cornerback with the same type of speed and athleticism able to make the tackle nice job third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can put deep shot for the end zone and swatted down by the defense to stop the scoring opportunity yeah and that's nice coverage he's taking a shot trying to throw the ball to the end zone maybe put that thing up a little bit higher where his guy can go up and make a play and come down a nice job by the defender just getting his fingertip on the top of the football the horn frogs send out the punt unit no return possible on this one it goes out of bounds and they'll mark it right around the 30 yd line Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field couldn't find a lane a pick up of one to the 31 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine the give to the back and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pickup I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him honor the Run make him know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively will they keep it on the ground again here on third down to the air it's Daniels throws to the wide out makes the grab at the 35 he's open TouchDown Cardinal and the route is on this is like a baseball pitcher that can't miss he is just pounding pounding pounding the strike Z it just gets in the zone right you can't miss you you've seen quarterbacks get like that no matter what they do they're on fire they're hitting the receivers and listen that's also on the defense the defense has to do a better job making him feel uncomfortable changing what they're doing in coverage so he's a little bit confused you can't just let him pick you [Music] apart lining up for the Pat the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they cap things off with a big play up top going 63 yds to the house almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 TCU has it back and the horn frogs go on offense leaves it with the back into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he's looking to throw fires to the wide out on target to the left he'll move it up to the 37 yd line and it'll be a first down using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today wants to throw on first down wide open downfield lots of green grass as he gets it to the 31 well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all this speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at him and the horn frogs will snap it on First and 10 running back goes in motion back to pass it's Hoover and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 they got more sacks than a grocery store goodness gracious time and time again getting to the quarterback getting him on the ground this defense having their way second down now after the sack they'll Run play action trying to get to him and he'll Chuck it into the cheap seats there and save the down nobody getting open there that's a good decision by the quarterback I know that's not going to come up on the stat sheet but you're in the pocket nobody's open Don't risk turning it over just throw it away this is a third and long looking to throw and he needs a bunch he'll take a shot touchdown horf frog and they made it to the house where they found that six points waiting on them yeah and that's simple but it's not easy it's a go route like that receiver streaking straight down the outside of the field and my job as a quarterback is to put that ball up up in the air keep it away from the safety he does just that receiver comes down with the catch nice pitch nice catch touchdown now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and it's up and good so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they pay it off with a stripe from 38 yds out about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown number 4 set kick off here he comes from inside his own five he had a vision of getting loose but he'll go out of Bounds at the 18 the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field this has been exactly the way you drove all things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they wanted to do build the lead now Palmer is a different animal now you got to protect him you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now on the same page here comes the offense on second down from the gun the running back has it and the defense p holds firm no pickup at all on that play this defense obviously knows they've got to be able to stop the run if they're going to win this football game and you wonder if they've been able to make some tweaks and adjustments to try and take this running back away coming to the line of scrimmage on third down is deal looking to pass it's Daniels they're trying to get to it that one never had a chance incomplete Stanford lines up to punt it [Music] awayi he'll bring it back it's Richardson the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely team CCU will send its offense back onto the field give to the back a most efficient pickup of six on first down it's second and four coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you could run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and four on the ground it's cook they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and what you talk about on defense his speed his penetration getting in the back field making something happen and you can tell they got in there so quick the offense couldn't recover couldn't do anything with them nice job getting the tackle for loss line is set on third down fast motion from the offense unloads to the wide out got his man downfield he gets it to the 31 yd line a big play for this offense these two guys just on the same wavelength they make clutch connections all the time and that's practice man that's all summer that's all spring just so many hundreds and hundreds and thousands of balls where you know exactly when that guy's going to break you know he's a stud you're going to feed him especially on these third down situations and the catching run into the end zone touchdown t see you and it's now the second time this wide receiver has scored another outstanding job with the route great job securing the catch [Music] Pat unit on the field smashes it through for the pat personal foul roughing the kicker defense the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty the kickoff team out there to boot it away in 15 yds farther up the field after the roughing the kicker penalty no shot to return that one as he boomed it out of the back of the end zone first down here for the offense quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage well I love the aggressive nature of the defense on that play everybody playing with eye discipline they saw the pre- snap motion they knew who had the football and you saw guys play with excellent Instinct running down the hill and making a tackle line getting set on second down the inside handoff at the 35 he's got room they've got him down at the 40 after he ripped off 15 yards I tell you what with this kind of success on the ground I I think you two Knuckleheads could call play I mean that's how easy it is for this offense right now they got the ground game working it's really easy now you can open up for other things but you guys could even try your hand because they're dominating right now they'll give it to him again anded he delivers the blow and he's still running that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter oh that was less than choreographed everybody going on their own snap count there false start off so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty plenty of time for one more snap before the end of the quarter there to make the Stop and we played three in this one at the end of the quarter it is Stanford holding the edge and they are starting to pull away as we come to the end of the third quarter let's take a look at how we got [Music] here one more quarter to play it might be unlikely but a it's college football comebacks [Music] happen they'll go to the ground good pick up on that play it'll bring up second and four four yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four here's the handoff he stopped at the 32 picks up 10 on the play and gets the first down this guy's been special today coming into this one they thought they had an opportunity really to get him going running the football and he has delivered you've seen the speed the vision his ability to break tackles well over a 100 rushing yards in this game and that's why they have a nice lead here late one back in the back field he gets to carry finds AC crease at the 20 and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop yeah if this offense keep that rolling if they can keep the physical ground game and continue to add these plays up as they go along long drives eat the clock with the lead this coach will be estatic been showing them the run now they'll throw it touchdown Stanford and the punishment has been extended and this always is the debate of where you fall it's your job to stop me or I should to get conserved because this offense obviously has had themselves a day and apparently their day is not over they're going to continue to keep scoring and the defense better do something about [Music] [Music] it they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead they marched 79 yd on the drive and they finish it with an 11 yd touchdown Dart the kickoff team out there set to boot it away on the move from inside is five he was looking for more r Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense they'll start this drive with a pass it's complete and they'll move the chains and get it to the 47 yd line and now he's in the 400 Club 40 that's a pretty good day at the office when you're putting up over 400 yards this defense hadn't had a lot of answers that last play is what you call a drive start they're out to the 47 it's first down to the air it's Hoover throws to the wide out not able to hook up the air incomplete this defense has just been all over this guy all game long Under Pressure they're finding a way to get to him and affect his rhythm of course they have an interception in this game that's why they've got a big lead here in the fourth quarter this guy has never gotten into a rhythm and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down they'll go to the air grabbed over the middle it's Williams he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short now I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbox they want to just keep throwing it working that left side and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down well the defense just has not had an answer for this guy working out of the slot so far man coverage has been tricky he's beating them in zone you might want to think about bracketing them where you've got a defender on the outside and the inside to see if you can force the quarterback to go somewhere else with the ball trying to find his man on first down snags it over the middle they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down that's a good job by the Drager out there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback now here on second down see if they keep tossing it around he's looking to throw grabbed in the back field it's cook each brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had had it drawn up listen if I'm a QB second down I want to check the ball down and get a manageable third down but when this defense is flying around like this so fast closing out he got to that running back got him on the ground so fast the running back had nowhere to go out of the gun the inside K they tried to go Smashmouth on Third and short and it did not work against his defense yeah that's a really good job by the defense cuz when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing both got it stopped now forcing a fourth down on fourth down looking to pass grabb near the sticks it's Richardson wrestled to the ground after picking up the first down move those chains without a hitch well actually with a hitch but you get the point I like that nicely done the defense probably should have understood the ball was coming out quick something like a hitch a slant a screen something fast they didn't QB gets it on the money receiver gets the extra yards easy pitch and catch for the first down they make the stop but you can't give up four yards a chunk on the ground down in this area of the field it's at the 18 I think one of the hardest things to do is stick to the run when it's not working but it's Those runs right there that are the reason why you have to do it right right you can't get two onedimensional keep slipping Those runs in there keep getting a little bit of positive yards next thing you know you'll look up and you might break one of those after you got them a little bit tired defense makes a stop but the chains move and it's first and goal from the eight I think it's just too little too late David at this point that's a play that they could have used a lot earlier in this game but because of miscues they're down by a lot late and I don't think they're going to have enough time to claw back into this one yeah and I'm fine with you running that play if you want to do that my goal now is with this lead if you want to run it so be it but just don't give up the big play he snares an NBN Zone touchdown hard frogs Yeah nice pitch nice catch and listen maybe this helps next game right like we're trying to find a rhythm find something that works find somebody to go to and this offense is struggling you're down by a thousand but I like that they continue to fight getting set for the point after and it's perfect they March 78 yds down the field and they finish things off with an 8- yd toss for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field there wasn't much need to throw it around on that last drive for the touchdown Jesse they got it done running the ball and David I don't think you have to overthink this thing if they can't stop you running it why would you stop handing it on just keep at it here on this drive well and if I'm the defense I'm making some changes I'm bringing in more big bodies I'm playing more aggressive towards the line of scrimmage I am not going to let them have that kind of drive again they're looking for space to run behind the left tackle he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's going to be tough sledding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late in the game but the defense knows the run's coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stop stops like what they just did be interesting to see what the offense does on this next one they'll keep it on the ground sticking with the running game and finding enough space to get eight it leaves them with a fourth and two the Cardinal will have to boot it away he's going to try to flip the field with this one fair catch called for and made TCU will send its offense back onto the field they'll throw it on first down feeling some heat can find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down it's a nice adjustment by the def defense here with a big lead in the game you're putting extra DBS on the field knowing the offense has to throw to get back in this one in the fourth quarter so your best cover guys on the field and they force an incompletion on the last one looking for a man it's Hoover gets open down the middle and he'll get it up to the 38 it'll be a first down you know the defense they just haven't been able to find an answer for this guy throughout the course of the game obviously he's got two touchdowns picks up the first down there they've tried doubling them they've tried man coverage Zone coverage nothing working on defense they can't stop them it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line he's going to pass he lost it high and deep down the left side and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it well trailing this much in the fourth quarter the offense is looking for an explosive play to try to ignite them and get them back in this one but nothing doing nice job in coverage they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 they're going to throw it again and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming at this point of the game in the fourth quarter it is going to be tough for this offense to get some completions here because now trailing by this much the defense is expecting pass and they're putting a whole bunch of extra DBS on the field to help them out in coverage they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on Third and long try to convert through the air and he dropped it incomplete passing what would have been a huge Gain No Defender anywhere around and he just flat dropped it down by multiple possessions you can't come up empty on this drive they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down it's caught he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it now a fresh set of downs the horn frogs are moving quickly down the field looking to go up top on first down complete to the right finally brought down at the 31 it's a pickup of 15 yds on the play and they've got a first down this is like he's orchestrating a video game out there I mean he's right at 500 yards he's a step or two or three ahead of any coverage ECS or 12 Rees I mean this defense just doesn't have an answer for him they've blitzed him theyve played Zone coverage they try to man up these receivers but the end result is always the same this guy right now that was Unstoppable nice job by the defense staying glued to him getting him on the ground as soon as he catches the football knowing he's a threat I'm not going to let this guy get out of my sights nice job by the D little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second down looking to throw it's Hoover and the throw down the gut falls to the grass listen I would get rid of that thing fast too if I've been sacked that many times today they're coming every angle everybody's coming they've got to me the whole day can somebody please get my back third and short from the 26 pretty easy field goal range but they'd love to pick up the first the give to the tail back they've got it just outside the Red Zone they'll move the change it's at the 21 well that's kind of the advantage of third and medium right is the defense you keep them guessing you could throw it you can run it that time they hand it off and they pick it up yeah and you can see the d drop back a little bit it creates a little bit of space the running back blasts through gets the first down off play action on first down working on the right works his way to the four yd line and they'll have it first and goal and when you get Zone coverage and you're running curls and the wide receiver Sprints off the ball you know what happens that DB starts to bail and that wide receiver comes back and it's easy pitch and catch for the offense and the horn frogs have it with they first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so on offense you've got to find a way to put six up on the board you know that in this game field goals may not get it done so big time players make big plays in big games who can you rely on right now to get you a touchdown defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming touchdown TCU and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board ling up to add another is point bangs it through for an extra point precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring drive and he found his way to the end zone from the seven to Cit [Music] the deficit is huge this one is all but over with they'll keep trying and line up for the onside kick looks as if the hands team will be able to recover the ball the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field after a punt on their last possession they are set up in plus territory this time and honestly it wouldn't have mattered if they scored a touchdown their last possession you've got to be able to turn the page and see this as a brand new opportunity to go get points yeah and your defense has set you up for the position to get points right away now let's get this offense back rolling again create some momentum just get a few first downs and I'm in scoring position they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 they'll keep it on the ground they want this clock to move he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three you haven't seen that happen too often tonight take a loss on a run this guy's been special he's been finding ways to get into the second level of this
