night against the rock hounds and says appears to be doing okay still has that nasty slider awesome okay so be great to see him um in the big leagues uh someone else wanted an ETA for Josh Young coming back uh Jeff reported said looking like uh early to mid June now uh so would be good for the Rangers to get him back in the lineup as well seem to be a little seem to be a little dinged up Rangers are off today they'll start a weekend series uh tomorrow in Denver against the Colorado Rockies we'll have uh that game for you after the Red Raider Oklahoma State game uh tomorrow night same thing on Saturday Sunday pending um we'll have high school baseball for you on the air uh tomorrow as well as uh the playoffs are getting ready to get underway for the high schoolers and uh just kind of start at the top in class 6A friendship we'll take on Keller that'll come to us from Graham we'll have that for you tomorrow on Sunny 977 and the sunny 977 mobile app if you're uh out and about you have other activities game two will be uh at 2:00 on Saturday we'll have that on Sunday 977 as well and then game three would be 1 hour after that if it's necessary L Cooper Pirates will take on Hanks they're out of El Paso these games will come to us from Fort Stockton you'll hear him on 100.7 the score game one is tomorrow at 5: and then uh game two of that game will be Saturday morning at 11: and again that game will be on 100.7 The Score as well and then game three if necessary will be 30 minutes after that game uh also in action um will be uh the Monterey plainsmen they'll take on Clint Horizon uh as their uh as their opponent in uh in the baseball playoffs and those games will be in pacas okay that'll be Friday night Saturday and then game three would be uh 30 minutes after game two on Saturday if that is uh if that is necessary okay so that's that's some of the games for you coming up and again we'll have uh love Cooper softball against Monterey tonight at 6 on dou T 973 that's a game one game two of that would be uh tomorrow okay so kind of keep uh keep all those it's going to be a lot of juggling game two would be on 93.1 Texas FM that'll be at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon so lots of uh lot of balls in the air which is good which is good you know a lot of softballs baseballs you know uh shot puts things like that in the air yeah you don't want to catch the shot puts that means we're in the playoffs right absolutely we're past the first round so that mean teams are winning that's those are good things those are good things ABS absolutely and T-minus one week to the most important week of high school baseball season I think I think it's next week graduation probably it's coming up it's it's I'm going to you know what I'm not going to get baited into that today I didn't say today today I'm not going to get we're like a week out we got plenty of time no no no you're more than that it's Memorial Day weekend it's it's High School graduations no so two more three more weeks yeah you got you still got you got a lot of winning left you got a lot of winning left the question will be how many teams will be left to for us to even be worried about that well clearly all of them because our teams are awesome we'll see hey the uh do you not believe all of our teams are awesome no I don't I don't I mean they might be Chuck hates High School baseball that's what it is now oh boy we're going to run with that narrative you you're blind um Texas Rangers uh made a trade with the white socks uh they reacquired Robbie Grossman from the Chicago White Socks he'll be a guy that will get at bats as the designated hitter or outfielder against left-handed guys uh Chris Young saying historically a very good platoon split guy from the right side or an area that we need a little assistance uh beyond that the intangibles he brings veteran president quality of at bat he's exactly what we need uh he actually uh made it to the Bay Area made it to Oakland so so he went from Atlanta to Oakland okay and was available uh but Bruce bochi said he didn't want to mess up his lineup nor did he want to risk an injury for Robbie Grossman after a long travel day smart yeah smart veteran manager and then Robbie Gman promptly got on another plane after the game last night and went to Denver with a team so he went from Atlanta to Oakland to Denver good might have been just easier for him to meet him in Denver but hey it might have been but you know who knows where team was and he's a team guy right Rangers could have used him maybe yeah maybe so may have been a desperate situation may have been may have been a desperate and if you watched the ninth inning he might have been able to get going out in that bottom of the ninth inning last night and we said earlier uh Dane Dunning goes on the 15-day injured list this is retroactive to Sunday a strin rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder but they say this is what they say but anytime you hear strained rotator cuff immediately you just think of send him off to Dr James Andrews um he's expected to return after the minimum time on the injured list though okay we shall see which tells you that line of thinking is inaccurate yeah yeah uh okay so I did not check the bo box score what somebody else has for me apparently Robbie Gman did get into the into the game let's see here let me look at the what he did he got two at bats well I mean we've never been wrong on this show before well I'm reading an article that was I guess published either right before the second game or as the game was being played but Gman went 0 for too so thank you he struck out once say we're not used to being wrong oh I mean not always accurate not always fair just you know just winging it on the happy to ENT no not of players retiring from an injury as young as he was when he retired which is why I'm like I knew he was young if you told me he was 45 I'd have believed it especially with today's technology I mean he there has even been any discussion of him even attempting a comeback I mean he has literally dropped off the face of the earth I what has he really literally he's gone off of the face of the Earth he's gone he defied gravity he's in the middle of the space so where exactly is he now I don't know he's dropped off the face of the Earth he's on his way to Mars you know if you have a chance Google Billy Joel singing Piano Man at uh at the Mets stadium during the World Series he's reluctant to do it but once he starts doing it and the fans see him up in the Suites and he's singing and he gets and a bullpen and a starting pitcher daily and I've never thought one time man there's not enough there to go win the game not one time and and so maybe I don't see what all see as far as that goes to me that's our job no matter what you have you got to have enough other guys you know to collectively go try to win the game and play good baseball I guess there'll be a time where I look at what you're looking at but right now I'm not going there right now we're going to still water with 30 guys and uh you know to me like 30 guys for crying out loud only nine of them played a time I mean what y toille win a baseball game and so you know it's about it's about playing the game the right way obviously um doing the things that ask the game ask you to do but I guess at some point I'll get there um but like there just hadn't been that I hadn't had that just yet 716 this morning here on the morning drive comments from baseball coach Tim tadlock yesterday he was asked about how he looks at all the injuries that his team has had and not just kind of scratch your head about it you know um I thought that was the comment that was most interesting to me yesterday just the mindset I I mean okay so we all know that there's a little coach speak in every coach right sure all right if you don't think that first off I I love the approach of No Excuses hey we got 30 guys we can play okay and they got more than 30 they have other ones to choose from too but only 30 that they can travel with right we got to play we're not making excuses over our losses of all these pitchers we're we're not we're not making excuses for that um and the other part of it is you don't want to be disrespectful to the guys that you have stepping in right sure because if you're like hey we have no chance to win right now what are you saying about the guy that's filling in you know man I think this guy's terrible he can't he can't beat Oklahoma State you can't say that right but I just think there's a little bit of Coach thing speak and everything that you at a certain point I'm sure that coaching staff has sat down just like any other coaching staff hasn't said they just look at each other and like how how I mean when is the bad luck going to stop when do we stop losing these guys right and so I I I think coach tadlock is is saying all the right things and saying hey we're not using his excuses and we're not letting the guys you know say hey we're we're going to lower our expectations because we don't have certain guys available to us even though they we all fully know how much harder it is for them to win yeah the reality is without the Five Guys that they have but I I feel like that's the right approach to take yeah I I love the fact we're taking 30 guys you can only play nine at a time we ought to be able to win a baseball game and then well and I would what I would want to say to coach tadlock is we'd like you to win two not a we'd like you to win too but I I think also there's the there's the there's the point to his team when he says something like that that whether they read it or hear it or or see it or anything like that there's that point of hey yeah you know what he's right there are 30 of us and just because we're missing some guys doesn't mean that the rest of us can't step up a little bit too yeah you just don't want guys to try to do too much do too much right you kind of do your job kind of thing and don't try to try to do somebody else's but um anyway that I thought that was I thought that was an interesting comment and I thought this one was too from when he was asked are things starting to close in on them with how the last two weeks have gone yeah I mean that's really a drown out really good question I mean I think you could ask the guys that question I I think our staff I think I can speak speak for myself I really enjoy what we do I enjoy teaching I enjoy watching the process of them go day to day enjoy trying to get them to play at a high level and so to me there's still a window there where they can still play at a high level and obviously you know it's uh you could say I think I don't know how you worded the first of the question you said closing in and I said window so I guess again like you just want to play good baseball to me like there's there's got to be enough respect for the game that there it presents a challenge whether things are going good or bad like if it had all gone great till now you're still should be trying to play you know as good as you can tomorrow right or Friday it's Tim tadlock on his baseball team and kind of how things have have gone for them the last couple of weeks obviously not swimmingly uh with a couple of sweeps back to back and now you're you're taking on another really really good team a team that's in contention for a big 12 title and uh has a has a ton to play for this weekend so you know you're going to get I don't know if you're getting them at their best in terms of their roster or their strength but you're certainly going to get their full effort because they have a lot to play for over the next uh over the next few days and possibly even working themselves into a hosting role or whatever I I don't I'm you can I don't know if this is an ignorant comment or not but to me it's not even about playing Oklahoma State it's it's more to what coach tadlock is saying there I mean you're playing to me to actually put together really good baseball on the road consistently that's I mean we this is a team right now in the situation they're in it can't be just about the opponent because it's got to be about who you are and you haven't been able to be consistent on the road and especially on the offensive side of the ball you haven't been able to come up with with just you know the key hits and driveing runs on the road for whatever reason and I mean part of that is because you know it feels like the wind's been blowing in where you've played or the ball hasn't carried whatever and that's you know that's how how you score runs but I mean it comes down to it's not always about how many home runs you can hit but it's can you can you drive in Runners and that's what this team's looking to do I don't I think Oklahoma State's a really good baseball team I mean both offensively and defensively they're or and pitching wise they're they're an impressive unit I think they have a way better chance to go deep in the postseason than Oklahoma does I think they have a deeper pitching staff than Oklahoma you see Oklahoma struggles in the midweek that speaks to them not having the depth to be able to you know win in Omaha or Advance deep into the NCAA tournament whereas Oklahoma State I feel like has a better roster to be completely honest with you um so but to me it's not about Oklahoma State it's and that coach tadlock talking about hey you just you know every day you want to play a little bit better you want to play the game the right way you want to do what the game asks you to do it seem hasn't been able to do that enough this year and so to me it's right now it's about can you get this team playing their best they're talented enough to do it it's just a matter of can they can they live up to that to that Talent level can they do the little things cuz sometimes that's what it's really about yeah know and I think uh uh I think two you know just not giving up the extra outs and just you know making some plays defensively to get yourself out of innings and help your help your pitcher out a little bit or or you know like you said you know getting a you know base hit when you've got Runners at second and third or whatever or or Advance the runners when you have Runners at second third ground out fly out whatever you do that in the ninth on Sunday and you get that game to extras give yourself a chance to win and too many empty at bats too many you know balls in play where you're not getting outs too many you know extra bases given up whatever sometimes you've almost made it too easy on the other team to beat you um when when you've just not had competitive at bats or or tried to make tried to make it competitive so it is uh hopefully a better weekend for the Red Raiders they'll play Oklahoma State tomorrow night and then Saturday night as well we'll have the games for you at 5:30 first pitch just after 6 and then Sunday as well tomorrow Ryan free goes to the mound for the Red Raiders and uh we'll see what uh we'll see what happens you know you said a few times that Oklahoma state has a lot to play for I don't I don't disagree with that but I think you've still got a lot to play for okay your postseason life depends on I think this weekend is the biggest deci okay now I mean be positive on one and you get to be unfortunately negative on the other do you think we do better with the two-part questions than we do just with the simple you know point blank question cuz I feel like that when we have the chance to meander a little bit we do better with it as opposed to when you just ask us a point blank question because I think we tend to meander even more with that well I mean the the request has been made by some that we don't Meander that we answer the question and then all three of us answer the question and then the discussion comes afterwards okay and that we don't Meander do we remember that that request who did that request come from you me yeah yeah yeah there are reasons okay um I would say no it's not better when we do two parts because usually at least one of us does not give two parts okay yeah I'll try to be better been I didn't say you no no I I know that I'm I know that I'm a violator of this all right so there's one answer here that is off the board for both of them okay Baron Morton's Health okay okay cannot answer with Baron Morton's hell all right fill in the blank Texas Tech will win nine games or more if fill in the blank second part Texas Tech will win six or less games if fill in the blank okay I feel like um I feel like that your receiving group has to be exponentially better than what it was last year whether it's downfield mid-range tight end blocking that you you've got to become more um you got to become less predictable and and I think the easy answer to a degree is Taj Brooks is going to run and have you know a thousand yard rushing season all that's going to be could be fine but I think you've got to be multi-dimensional and I don't know that you were multi-dimensional enough to keep the opposing defense off guard okay so that's that's to win the nine games you've got to be more multi-dimensional on offense okay less predictable defense I think if your defense isn't as good as what Tim darer made it sound like it's going to be on on Monday um because he was pretty excited about his front four and his linebacking core and the and the depth overall of the defense so I'll just say if if the front four and the linebackers don't prove out to be as good as he thinks they are right now you're you're not going to be able to stop people and you can't score enough points to win to win enough games okay Texas Tech will win nine games or more if they remember that they are a running football team first I'm going to say that again CU I want to make sure that it gets out there um that you're a running football team first don't forget that you have Taj Brooks in the back field for a half after your quarterback gets hurt on the road and you put in a guy who's never thrown a big 12 pass before Texas Tech will lose will not what's the bottom six games six or less six or less Texas Tech will win six or less games if they try to be something that they're not if you are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole this year it's going to end badly whether that be trying to throw the ball all over the field when your quarterback doesn't have the arm whether you're trying to get away from your run game whether you're trying to Blitz and not having any effective Effectiveness in it and just get smoked on it like we've seen so many times that this team in the last couple of seasons has tried to do too much of something when it's not working that if you do that too much you're going to dig yourself in the holes you can't get out of okay um I'm going to start with the positive one I think Texas Tech wins nine or more games if we see an um Market Improvement within the offensive line um whether it's Baron Morton or one of the other guys back there I I think a really good offensive line I'm not telling you guys anything you don't know but a really good offensive line can help out a a young or an inexperienced quarterback or whoever or a great quarterback and so if we're going to get more um production out of the passing game then I I think that you've got to have better offensive line play if you're going to be what you think you should be with Taj Brooks in the backfield um if you're going to reach that you know Peak potential then your offensive Line's got to be better and let Taj you know creat some Lanes I know he the stat last year about him breaking more tackles than anybody in college football is uh is impressive and at the same time you're like hey how about he not have to break all those tackles how about we block somebody sometimes that'd be cool you know so I just think that we need more consistency and better play in the offensive line okay that that would be huge for for me as far as you know if you're going to end up six wins or less I I think it it has to do with you being really terrible in the turnover department and and that's on both sides of the ball you know you're not forcing turnovers you're not getting after the quarterback and forcing bad passes and you're not creating fumbles and then at the other side of the football um whether it's Morton or whether it's somebody else that you're losing the turnover battle every day because you're throwing too many picks um or you know your wide receivers are putting the ball on the turf whatever I I think this team is way more talented and the schedule is I mean it's just hard to believe that you could only be at six wins on a season looking at the schedule the way it plays out for you so to me that I mean the best way to lose to a team that's that you shouldn't lose to is lose a turnover battle and so that's why I feel like if you're going to lose six or less you're gonna you're gonna flounder in the turnover Department okay I I would I think I would have predicted offensive line for you and I think I would have predicted Taj Brooks um running I like the turnover battle I like the thought on the offensive line too I think you're spot on um with that and and I think Jeff makes great points with regard to Taj especially if you're not with a healthy quarterback you got to run the ball I think a good passing game though would help Taj in that run game a ton and so I'm I'm like you and thinking that they need to they need to get more production out of their passing game than they did a year ago and again that will just open things up more you have to do X and lose six or more you would not do this uh one person says nine or more finished top three in the conference in offensive production six or less finished in the bot bottom three in offensive production all right that's pretty Captain Obvious kind of stuff there well but I mean you're totally putting in saying that this this is about the offense right we're confident in our defense and we feel like the defense is going to be solid he's that texter he she is saying that the determining factor of how good you're going to be is is is about how good is your offense going to be uh this win nine games if the offensive pass blocking is above average and your quarterback has time to go through progressions oh okay whenn six games or less if there is a drop off in your running game due to bad run blocking if your run blocking is bad chances are your pass blocking will be bad as well you buying to that um some of that I mean that's probably the majority of the time if you're not good at one you're not good at the other but I I I mean some sometimes it goes the opposite way though where I felt like last year you were pretty good run blocking and but weren't great at pass blocking yeah uh this is probably Fair sentex Hank says Chuck's nickname is Mr Meander um I think close to Mr Miyagi I almost watched that movie the other night it was say he still doesn't know who that is so he doesn't get how cool that could be as a compliment it's one of those things though right that you don't want to watch it because the rest of have said no no no that I don't have that no that that that that stubbornness is purely reserved for Star Wars um the um karate kid stuff is is more just it just wasn't my thing um there have been some times when I've seen it coming on like you know I should I should watch that movie just so I get it uh but I do not have any there's no I will never ever watch that you can sit me in front of a movie and tie my hands behind my back and force my eyelids open no I mean I I don't have that feeling about Karate Kid and you have one of yours is one of your grandson's is a karate K right yeah black black belill so he probably would like it he probably would the young Phenom would probably like that maybe I should long as he doesn't try the crane kick on the younger Phenom well the little Phenom you know he he um little Phenom my bad no that's okay this is his now third nickname though not boy wonder anymore well he he wants to be a Phenom cuz he's four years old he's I you know he's a Phenom he wants to be a Phenom sometimes you have to put your foot down Chuck well he you know you don't get to pick what your nickname is it get it's given to you we we I mean Boy Wonder SL little Phenom but we're we're the phenoms I call them now just collectively I just call them the Phenom where we are in 2024 you can have multiple nicknames just whatever you want phenoms you could associate with whatever you want to be on that given day everybody gets a Phenom I was trying to teach him how to play pool the other day and you know he was telling me he knew how to do it I'm like okay listen I know how to do it I'm like okay sounds like he's got big boss confidence he does he does yes and just remember everybody no blood so anyway this is a pure case we have a handshake of nurture versus nature we have me and the phenoms we have a handshake we have a we have a handshake that we go through oh like when you're going when they're starting lineup line me and the young Phenom have one and the little Phenom it's it's but it it always ends with phenoms forever all right do you get capes to go with this uh no capes are you the old Phenom I think they would refer to me as the old Phenom yeah that's what the young Phenom calls me the old Phenom so you guys need to get like sweatshirts mate phenoms just say phenoms Phenom yeah yeah op old Phenom Texas Tech jerseys yeah old Phenom young Phenom little Phenom there you go there we go and have the numbers be their birth year yeah that could that's not a bad that's actually not a bad idea but then I would be an offensive lineman I'm more of a quarterback it's kind of how I view things what your were you born 60 Le are offensive lineman I mean oh you okay my bad that number would be an off would be an off that you wanted a 12 or something and yeah I want to be yeah okay I had that backwards in my mind yeah yeah anyway we got off on that um so anyway um yeah so me and the phenoms we got it we've got it going on right now we're we're in good shape all right so what I wanted to what I wanted to get to and we we we have plenty of time just we'll have a couple minutes here then we'll continue on with it is I saw this article about and and basically what it was is the five easiest 2024 football schedules okay this is one person's opinion okay um and they have five teams that they've listed here the Red Raiders they say are one of the five teams teams that have the easiest football schedule in the Big 12 and it kind of goes back to the winning of nine or not getting to sixc and you made the comment of with as easy a schedule as you have it's hard to see not getting to six yeah yeah even if the injur even if have have a quarterback that's injured so I'll give you those five teams and tell you where the Red Raiders sit um and we'll get get your guesses
