what's going on guys my name is Deshawn and I'm back with another NFL uh overview and today I just wanted to talk about the Chargers and mainly how I feel about the preseason because I a Chargers fan so I just wanted to talk about it and this video is mainly going to be focusing on the quarterback uh position and East stick in uh specific because he's just so bad that I feel like I need to make a video about it all right so um just for some context e stick is currently listed as the backup quarterback to Justin Herbert with Luis Perez in third meaning that the Chargers have Cut Max Dugen from their roster and I don't know if he's on practice squad or what but he's not here right so that's already mildly concerning seeing as I would think Max Dugen had a higher potential than Easton stick does but be that as it may and uh before we look at his preseason stats let's just look at um him as a as a person uh 61 224 PBS he's a pretty decent sized um pretty decent sized man um I'm not he's 28 years old so he's already a little bit older um I think he's older than Justin Herbert actually yeah Herbert's only 26 and uh for context Luis Perez is 30 so Perez is obviously older um but that being said I do think he still has higher value than e stick does just because of his performance in general so moving on if we go to the first preseason game of the year for the Chargers and look at player stats we can see here that e stick in 13 attempts he's five for 13 31 yards and a pick and Luis Perez it may not look much better only being 5 and 12 but he does have 30 more yards and no interceptions overall uh not great for either of them and then Max Doug in 4 for 741 uh but he got cut I believe so he doesn't really matter anymore and if I had to pick between these two performances I would obviously pick Luis Perez so so far um Perez has one of three on uh e stick and we can look at running uh e stick did run for 12 yards once uh Perez did not run at all but once again it's the quarterback position it is what it is uh so for game one Perez is already proven that he might he might be better and going on to the second game of the pre season against the Rams uh once again low scoring game we have here that Lu Perez 13 for 20 78 yards no interceptions all right statline obviously you would like to see touchdowns and more yards but once again he's the third string quarterback in a preseason game so all things considered not terrible and then you have Easton stick going 8 for 13 so pretty good completion percentage um compared to what he normally does 85 yards and an interception and once again he throws another pick not great especially when you're going against backup guys it's throwing throwing interceptions at one per game isn't good in the preseason uh and only having 85 yards on eight passes in 13 attempts all right right um for being the the backup so here honestly I do like his completion percentage here so I don't know if I would give this to Perez stick but I feel like Perez just performed better he had more passes similar amount of yards only seven less no interceptions so I would give Perez the one again which gives him two out of three games better than STI and if we move on to this uh last preseason preseason game which happened yesterday as I'm recording this video it was so do not let this this fool you right e stick 12 for 29 is already terrible that's uh around like the 35 percentage area um from completion rate 187 yards that's all right it looks good if you don't look at the rest one touchdown and one interception again throwing another interception just not great and uh in this game this game was uh pretty it was fun to watch it just was was also painful in the second half um Darius Davis first uh touch of the game 70 yards runs it all the way um but but I want to focus here on the team stats and just kind of just kind of look at this right so the score is 26 to 19 Chargers win by seven which is okay they won against the the Cowboys by seven give it it's preseason but still a win is a win right um um the Cowboys have 31 first downs compared to the Chargers 11 which should already give you kind of a like how did the Cowboys lose this game right uh third down efficiency eight for 17 on third down Chargers 5 for 13 so Cowboys doing better once again on third down fourth down Cowboys two for two Chargers didn't even attempt one they didn't need to so that's fine um total plays the Cowboys had 93 total plays on offense while the Chargers had 49 and you may be thinking well they won the game so maybe they just completed a lot of passes or ran the ball a lot right wrong and I'll get back into that in a second uh sacks Cowboys let up one more sack in the Chargers Cowboys also only punted twice while the Chargers punted six times and then you have the penalties uh kind of not not relevant to the point I'm about to make make and then this is where it really comes down the the Cowboys had six turnovers this game one fumble and five interceptions yet their offensive stats are all better than the Chargers does that make sense okay well let's let's think they threw picks defense got a lot of yards returning the ball fumble recovery pick six fumble six whatever it is so the the off doesn't see the ball as much right um wrong actually because if we go back up uh to punts we punted the ball four more times than them and we had 13 uh third Downs as well they had 17 so they had they had the ball more which is a given when you throw six picks or throw five picks in a fumble but it's still like we the Chargers only one by seven only seven we they they had five more turnovers than us and had the ball for 41 minutes we had the ball for 19 they had over double our time yet we only won by seven does that really make sense if we go okay let's go to the player STS right out of the 29 throwing attempts East stick connected on 12 our defense got him the ball an extra six possessions of the game and he doesn't convert he converts one time out of the six that is terrible in my opinion don't let the near 200 yards fool you that is terrible and then if you look at Rushing we did great on the ground in my opinion Darius 70 yards one carry but it's 70 yards right uh Jared Patterson 27 yards six carries Elijah Dodson 23 four carries and then you have e stick with four for 17 and Isaiah's F three carries one yard not his greatest but he is going to be playing the regular season anyways and now this is kind of where I wanted to like talk about it and talk about East six yards and why it's a little bit deceiving Simi foko two receptions for 85 yards now I'm not sure um okay yeah you can see here he scored a 79 yard touchdown so 79 of the 187 yards were off of one short pass that he took to the crib so is that is that e stick making a play not really because he threw a check down pass that turned into a touchdown and yes that of course that counts for yards all quarterbacks get those yards right but I think in the preseason when you're determining who gets the backup roster spot uh to Justin Herbert I think you kind of have to look at the types of passes he's making and Eon stick time and time again continues to just miss open passes if you look here at Brendan Rice's stats 11 targets or wait oh it doesn't show targets here but I believe I believe he had like 11 targets and he only had one catch he has somewhere around there and it's like how do you target somebody that many times and and still miss 10 out of time cuz there's no way that a receiver is dropping the ball 10 times in game and at the professional level so it's like okay so what's the quarterback doing wrong and I just think that Jim Harbaugh and uh the GM all that I think they really need to have that discussion where it's like do we really need this guy on our team cuz me personally I'm already I already I'm 100% believer in that if Justin Herbert goes down or can't play the game we lose we lose if Justin Herbert gets injured in like week one two three out for the season we might lose every single game because e stick is just that bad and I I think honestly with all my heart I believe that we should we should be playing um Luis Perez over this guy I don't know if uh we're going to be able to see here I don't know if it it doesn't show uh preseason stats here this is for 2023 yeah it doesn't show preseason but it it's really bad it is really bad because you you can see here right so let's take a look at um let's take a look at Brendan rice just so I can uh kind of prove my point a little bit more um for his reception rate so if we go to his previous games um I don't know if you can see targets here yeah you can okay this game he had seven targets and six of them were missed and I don't think it drops but he didn't drop all of those I don't even know if he dropped one honestly and it's it's abysmal it's really abysmal and I just I don't see how Jim Harbaugh is allowing this guy to stay on our roster let alone be our qb2 I think there is a lot of work that needs to be done and if the Chargers want that security uh if Justin Herbert goes down which he's already having foot issues right now uh Luis Perez is going to have to be that backup guy and do I think he's GNA be great no I don't I I don't think he's GNA be anyone like quality but I still think he's going to perform better than Easton stick will seeing as he's a little bit older has more experience and um he was great in the XFL by the way that's where he came from he he was great um so I just I don't know but what I do know is that e stick is a very very bad quarterback and the Chargers really need to look at at getting rid of him or finding another backup quarterback and um yeah that's basically all I had to say uh about the Chargers and the preseason performance um good on good on the players on defense getting um those picks Tony Jefferson was phenomenal had a force fumble two interceptions uh Robert Kennedy to steal the game with a horrible throw by Trey Lance by the way uh just straight to him um yeah Morris Brash honestly keep him over Chris run uh I like I like what I see a lot when he plays um yeah and that's that's what I have to say about that get rid of um e stick put Perez over him on the depth chart bring dougen back and get stick out of here and yeah so if you guys agree let me know down below if you have any other takes or want me to talk about anything else that I've seen or you seen or that you want to hear about let me know but uh yeah thank you for watching uh have a great day peace
