Manny Sanguillen - Baseball Card Theater

it's tan baseball card theater today we're looking at M Manny sand yeah and I love his baseball cards cuz he looks so happy in them and he had a big gap to smile kind of a Michael stray hand always seemed happy my favorite card of his was from 1971 here he is writing a letter dear Johnny you son of a bench I'm never going to get to start an All-Star game because of you he made three Allstar teams but Johnny Bench started I mean you know that his early cards are the classic catcher poses he's in the catcher Crouch here oh throwing a guy out at second don't be stealing on me and my favorite taking off the mask to catch a foul popup behind the plate those are cool cards he's from Latin America guess what country yeah pan that's right yeah other greats from Panama are Mariano Rivera and Rod Karu nice headband so he's on the Pirates and he's best buddies with Roberto Clemente they're really tight and here's one of those weird twist of fate things he was supposed to be on the plane with Roberto CL he missed the flight and Manny actually missed the funeral services because he was diving off the coast of Puerto Rico trying to recover Roberto's body so the plane crash that killed Roberto clend happens between 72 and 73 and when Manny came back they tried to play him in right field to replace Roberto and it didn't really work out so then they made him start catching again Manny was a really good hitter in 1971 he came in third for the batting title in the National League he's a lifetime 296 hitter came in third for the batting leaders in 1975 to so in 77 he gets traded to the A's look at that paint job ain't that a peach here's the best part though when they traded him they traded him for the manager Chuck Tanner gets traded to Pittsburgh and Manny goes to Oakland I love those stories where a player gets traded for a manager the only thing better is if someone got trade it for a mascot it'd be like the a send the elephant to San Diego Oakland gets Johnny grub dude that would be a good trade that's a good deal but the next year he gets traded back and he plays first base a lot because they got Duffy Dyer and another guy so he starts playing first base so if you do immaculate grid he plays right field in first base he fills out have played one game there Manny sangen also won two World Series rings here's some cool cards from 71 also one in 79 and lastly from the back of his card some fun facts about him Manny once played for the Panama Allstars an attorney in Brazil and he's got a sombrero on making a catch nice something else you might not know Manny is a former boxer cool I like it he's got his gear on but he's boxing that's all for this episode of baseball card theater we looked at Manny sang again we love him I'm tan peace
