Is Zverev the US Open Favourite? | US Open 4th Round

Intro okay we have the first set of quarterfinal matchups prepared we've got big matchups some players playing big tennis ready to put themselves in there as the favorites for the US Open title now that you know arguably the two biggest favorites are out on the men's side jokovic and alcr is Zev the player that I see as most likely to come from the bottom to win the whole thing we're going to talk about it to me he looked absolutely uh scary against Nakashima so we're gonna get into his level we're gonna look at dimitro TFO Fritz the other guys who got through on the bottom half today take a look at all the results and talk about it because that's what we do here on the slice this is the slice presented by betway thanks for being here let's get into [Music] it okay welcome back to the show big you know I feel like we're in a bit of a new era here with this major because of the fact that especially on the men's side uh alra and jokovic went out so early in the tournament that a lot of guys have the feeling that why not me why don't I go and win this and I talked about it on the last show but I've been thinking about it ever since eight of the last nine Majors have been won by either jokovic or alra and you just can't say enough I think about that especially with CER and meev the only other two major Champions being on the top half one of these guys in the bottom is going to be in the final and they're gonna be like hey why not me why don't I go and make it to the final and just beat Center or Mev or whoever is there from the top because I think everyone on tour thinks that those guys are more beatable maybe than um jokovic or ALR especially at that stage of the tournament at in the finals um so yeah that is that is super interesting so we're going to talk about that but before we do that thanks for being here welcome the slice if you're new here smash the Subscribe button means a lot helps us get to 20,000 subscribers and thanks to betway for Best Bets of the Day by Betway supporting the show this is Best Bets of the day um looking at the top half of the draw the men's draw for tomorrow um who do I see value in I see Tommy they got Tommy Paul right now versus IC Center they got Tommy Paul at plus 500 to win the match so to me that's a little bit crazy um he's not that much worse than Yanik Center I wouldn't say yanx CER is clearly the favorite um but he didn't you know he's you know it's Tommy Paul and on these courts with the home crowd behind him I think he's got a chance he's got a lot better chance in plus 500 I think so there's some value there so that's my best bet of the day presented by our friends at betway Tiafoe, Dimitrov, Zverev, Fritz Win in R4 okay let's go into it I just watched Francis tifo uh take out Alexi poin and I called poin winning that in three or four uh so that aged like milk and was not true but you know Francis tafo is really playing that type of tennis that uh has got him to the quarterfinals in us at the US Open the last three years which I didn't really know it's kind of crazy I think the LA last year's US Open was probably his only really good result uh since before then until now uh obviously other than you know this whole American hardcore swing has been good he made the finals in Cincinnati but yeah he's playing a great brand of tennis seems to be a lot more locked in and as he said after the match enjoying himself which is key um so yeah that is that is good for him another good American Story Taylor Fritz through um he beat or he comes through I don't know why I'm forgetting who he beat right now but he's through um and he's looking good on the hardcourts and also dimitrov is through and my thinking here is why not Gregor demitro I was thinking about this before or when I was watching him play when he's watching him beat rublev is this the best chance Gregor has ever had essentially to win a major a lot of people are thinking you know he's an ex- feter when he came out baby Federer but he you know at when he was coming up and he was at his height even in 2017 when he was kind of had his best year you know he had to beat in the Australian Open that year he would have had to beat he almost beat Rafa in the semi-finals then he would had to beat Federer in the final like you always had to go through two or three of The Big Three to win right now in this tournament he doesn't have to go through any of them and obviously none of these guys are easy like he's still probably the oldest guy in the draw but as far as a rout to a major he's now into the quarterfinals and he's got SE quarterfinal semi-final final he's got three more matches against guys who are not named alcra or jokovic that's a pretty good uh I would say chances not chances for him but the best chance he's had in a long time i' would say so on that let's look at the results from today which he was involved in so match recap he came back he was up two sets to love and then he let ruv back in or ruv got back in at 6163 and then cregor played great smart solid tennis in the fifth set to get back on top and close it out um he won 80% of his first serves only 42% of his second serves I mean this is a super tight match obviously um both kind of grinding lot more both had more on forc erors than winners um one of those gritty US Open matches where both guys really want to win badly and uh demitro comes out on top so that's a feel good story for him because he's such a good guy has been grinding at it for so long um and yeah you feel like you know maybe this is his time I don't know he's still got a lot to a lot of space to cover so we'll see about that uh and here's an interesting one okay so Emma Navaro beats KOCO goof Brad Gilbert on ESPN after Coco Loss 63 4663 Coco go had let's look at it so I get the number right she had double faults do they show that there uh yeah double fault she had 19 double faults Coco Golf and to me that's just shocking like a professional tennis player I just don't understand how you're throwing in that many but we've seen it before with guys like shaav valv Z we it happens the crazy the most controversial thing about this match to me was after the match Brad Gilbert comes on to ESPN like immediately after the match and I believe I saw on Twitter I can't confirm this but that like Emma was still in press she was still in the locker room and Brad Gilbert's on ESPN at the desk and he was asked about her serve and he said look in practice it's never an issue uh and in G and in matches she has to be able to hit the same speed on her second serve every time and she changes it up that's where he feels the the uh the inconsistencies come in and then Renee stubs just literally roasts Emma's or sorry Koko's uh form to Brad right there and kind of just like you know says like it's not a very good excuse her form's bad and she's probably right but I think it's insane that Brad's there having to like defend his player immediately after a loss he's probably still rattled or upset by it and then also if you're Coco goof I don't want my coach out there talking about my loss right away I want him there talking with me I don't want him doing a different job when you're probably paying him a ton of money to be your coach you guys just failed you guys just lost at the US Open and now he's out there collecting that check from ESPN I think that's weird and I think that's it's not a conflict of interest but it's just a strange scenario like I I believe what I've been hearing on Twitter because I tweeted that out is that Darren kah Hill essentially won't comment on any of the men's tennis um because he's coaching um he's coaching yaner obviously so I don't know what do you guys think about that I think it's a little bit weird to have the coaches these high-profile players commentating on as high-profile analysts on ESPN uh during the tournament I know they've done it for a long time I know especially uh Darren kahill has done it for a long time coaching someone on halop anyways what's your thoughts on that anyways that was a tough one for for Coco go but a great one for Emma Navaro she played great she's so strong from the Baseline such a big hitter U for not being that big and uh yeah that was a great win for her fr TFO beats Alexi Po in three hours uh in four sets and yeah like we said impressive performance from him solid big hitting but with measured approaches came forward a lot how many times did he come forward I don't know from what I saw I didn't see this whole match um but yeah first first serers in not super high for either guy um but yeah I think probably just Francis it's it's a match Francis just played the clutch the big moments better won three out of his five break points uh compared to three out of nine for uh for poin and uh I mean look at this both of them this is a clean hitting match winners 55 to 28 for for poin and 44 to 20 for for TFO so both have a huge winner to uh unforce ER ratio compared to a lot of other matches like that demit TRV rublev match and uh yeah points one I'm gonna say you know 36 times uh TIAA got to that poin also came forward a lot anyways poin great player great win against jokovic he's gonna be I think he's gonna be at the top of the men's game for a while now um and he's got because he's got the game for it but TFO is extra hard or extra good at the US Open third time in the quarterfinal so he'll be looking to make it through we'll get to the draw in a second here um Bosa over Wang 6162 butos is just cruising through the draw Taylor Fritz beat Casper Roode yes in four sets only two hours and 43 minutes Casper just doesn't seem to have it right now he seems to be tired he seems to be not to be slow he doesn't seem to have you know the level he's maybe had in the past in Majors but again you know he's kind of he's kind of consistent a guy like Taylor Fritz has more Firepower and in these quicker conditions he's more deadly that's just a fact and yeah he showed that 64 6362 to finish that one out um and then zov over Nakashima lost the first set and then was just absolutely routes Nakashima 61 62 62 and that is what I said Domin very scary performance from from Z if you're anyone else nakashima's got a great return and Z won 88% of his first serve points he literally dropped five points on First Serve All match came forward winning you know 20 out of 25 net points 51 winners 33 unfor erors absolutely massive tennis uh compared to nashima so that's gonna Tommy Paul vs Gabriel Diallo Analysis be tight um I will say before we move on to the draw Tommy Paul beat play Beat Gabriel Dio friend of the show and Canadian yesterday uh in a tight match actually and he played it he played or Tommy Paul played I think a good match wasn't playing as best best um but dowo made things really tough for him the stats show here I'm just going to bring him up that you know because Doo has a massive serve but he was also able to break Tommy uh five times and then Tommy was able to break Dio nine times there was a time there's a I believe there's a point in the match where there's six breaks back to back to back so there was a lot of breaking a lot more rallies than you would have expected I think from um Gade Diallo so I think a lot of people who hadn't watched him before saw what game is like uh it's big time he's got a huge serve and he's not even getting the most out of it I think at this point he's he can still get it bigger um but Tommy kind of grinded that one out 32 winners for Gabe 77 on forc ER so just a lot um but yeah super dangerous player and really I think Gabe Dio will be in the top 50 by this time next year I uh that I believe that he's got the game for it and he's another Canadian star who we've been talking about for a while obviously over two years on this on on the slice here but he's coming into it now and yeah he's looking good so big shout out to Gabe Dio there let's look at the draw Men's QF Draw US Open 2024 let's look at the draw and where the matchups we've got here now so obviously we've got the quarterfinals so we've got Taylor Fritz versus Alexander Zev which is a big hitting match that's tough for both of them and that seems to be you know you know that's like two if I had to put the two biggest favorites maybe coming out of the bottom I'd put it as those two guys so they're playing them each other in the quarterfinals where you got demitro and TFO playing each other that's a huge opportunity for grigor or Francis to make the semi-finals and to play one of those two guys but that's gonna be a huge hitting if ver ver and Fritz who can serve better who can play better behind their serve it's going to be massive so who do you guys think below I don't even know I I'll pick Z because I really think um he's the most dangerous player from what I've seen potentially in the whole draw but mevans Cent are right there as well they both been playing fantastic um and then Dimitra versus TFO that's gonna be wild that's gonna be a shot Maker's dream shot Maker's Delight demitro what can he do can he bring experience to this match that's gonna help him win because Francis is definitely the more physical player at this point I think he's got more to him but yeah demit does have a lot more experience especially you know getting the semi-finals of Majors uh he's been there before he's won more than TFO he's been around a lot longer um I think is that how much exper or how much of a factor will that experience play in this match I don't know but it's G to be a really good one so I'm looking forward to that um so yeah those are the matchups if I had to lean one way I would actually kind of lean tifo in the bottom just based on what I seen tonight he's playing great like he's playing like a well-rounded tennis game game and you know unless he just gets away from that and just plays a poor match I think he's got more physicality right now more um and he's got more crowd behind him against demitro and yeah we've you know he's he's he's playing better tennis or he has been for the last three weeks I think than demitro and he's younger so I'm leaning TFO and zov in these two matchups um but again zov this guy look at this Beast right now in this outfit I like the outfit a lot of people haven't been saying that they like the outfit um to me he's a freak and you do not want to be playing him right now he looks good and I think the biggest thing standing in his way as far as form is getting tight because he'll know that he doesn't have to play jokovic or Zev jokovic or alcaras even though he has a good record against al Graz he did lose him in the French Open final so he's got to be thinking man I should have already had a major this is my time will Zev be able to play his best tennis and serve bought it because these are serve body conditions and the balls are fly courts are quick and his ver can just play really downhill big tennis and play himself I I see no reason why he can't beat anyone left in this draw and win his first major that'd be pretty crazy he's already in the live rankings now number two in the world um over alcra and jokovic that's pretty crazy um so yeah it's going to be interesting to see we will be back at you tomorrow with the top half of the draw getting their quarterfinals done we'll do a few full quarterfinal preview show uh both men's and women's tomorrow on that leave your thoughts Below on what we talked about today good tennis happening today some weird things happening like the like
