250 | What It's Like For Vinnie Pasquantino to Hit Behind Bobby Witt Jr. | Chris Rose Rotation

Intro hey everybody and welcome to episode number 250 of the Chris Rose rotation a production of johnboy media and it's a milestone episode as I said 250 in the books so why don't we bring back an old friend yeah it's Vinnie pasquantino from your Kansas City Royals hello stranger hello Chris good to see you uh good to be back yeah it is good to have you back it's good to have you back we wanted to give you some distance this year wanted you to focus on your game and you and the Royals have done a fantastic job much to my chrin which we will get into momentarily but let's start with this uh you are joining us from Detroit Michigan um you're not a bed maker are you I actually I actually moved it made it a little nicer for you uh no I'm not a bed maker but I made it a little bit nicer for the production quality yeah I'm not I'm not um complaining here because most people don't make their beds particularly on the road at home are you a bed maker no because I get up first so uh I'm already out of bed and uh my dog and my wife are still in in bed so I don't make it because I'm already I'm already up and moving by the time they get up really you're like even if you have a night game the night before you're an early riser yeah I mean depends on what you say is early she's more of a late Riser than uh than I am an early riser in the offseason I'm up at like 7 7:30 but during the season probably 9 9:30 something like that okay is that because you want to go play College Football 25 college football 25 um I don't want to just admit this but you're currently the the computer is on my PlayStation and I do have college football up right now currently soon as we're soon as we're done I'm gonna grab some food and then lock back in so I am uh taking away from your fun while on the road uh yeah exactly yeah exactly that's a good way to look at it so you you want to make this a seven minute interview and just move along or what I you know I depends on how good bad your questions are I suppose well you know them so you you can be the judge right now yeah perfect so seven minutes yeah yeah that's right so why don't we talk about college football when last we texted um I think I actually I I was asking you what you were going to do during the break and you were like I'm just going to immerse myself in college football 25 so let everybody know where you stand right now are you the dynasty League player yeah I'm a dynasty player I'm not a big Road to Glory person I'm all d all the time the only thing I don't like is mad Madden is my favorite game I the thing with college football is you obviously can't make trades so sometimes I'll recruit three four star quarterbacks and then it's like well if you have too many quarterbacks you have none so I'm working on my game working on my craft a little bit and my recruiting Styles and yeah we're getting better we're doing we're doing a better job so you started the season as your with your Alma moer Old Dominion right that's correct yeah okay and take us through where we we are now yeah so I'm in like 2034 um I got to 2030 after two days so I was really I was in a hole just grinding um now I'm now I'm the head coach of the Florida Gator I'm down in Gainesville just just recruiting my tail off right now uh first year in Florida didn't go too well second year went really well third year is going well undefeated so far 8 and0 um yeah we're pretty excited we're happy with with where we are um we're looking forward to a national championship coming back to Gainesville does the coach look like you or are they able to um screen your face into it and everything no I just picked some random uh character and I don't use my real name either I use a use a different name you know really immerse myself into it so wait a second you play against other you don't play Just against a computer you play against other people no no it's all computer but I use a fake name because I'm living vicariously through someone else what what is the name of your coach can't give it out can't give it out because it's also the name I use for like uber and stuff so can't just say it and and is it your Alias at the hotels uh no because when we stay at Marriotts I like to get the points so I just use my real name to uh to get the uh to get the knights you did not just say that did Marriott Points you yeah yeah I'm I'm like a titanium elite member in Marriott thanks to staying at Marriotts on the road do you think Bobby wit does the same because he likes to get his Marriott points no he uses uh he tries to get his Knights but but he he uses a a different name that I was saying that because he's got a $260 million contract and probably doesn't need the points no but he still wants the points he does not yes he does we talk about it quite a bit he's like yeah I tried to go get my points but they wouldn't let me because the name he like they could call and and make it happen but it's just not worth it so what you're telling me is because they don't believe that he's Bobby wit Jr that they won't give him the points because he uses an alias on the road well no they believe that it's him but they're like well it's under this name so we can't give it to your account and he's like well why not I'm standing right in front of you and so you know you know just no I don't I don't know because th those people should know it's Bobby wit Jr they should understand he is an alias like they're in the hotel business of having major league teams roll through you would think hey no problem Bobby wit Jr here's your um 20 87 points you earned tonight congratulations yeah well technically I guess they don't give you the point because the team pays for the room but you can get the Knight so you would think it'd be even easier uh to make that happen what's the difference between the points and the Knights the points are like currency and the Knights are just like free nights yeah pretty much so I like getting the knights because it just adds up because if you get enough free Knights then you get free rooms now I use it in the offseason where if we could pick one place to go right now with your beautiful bride where are we going well we are going to uh Mexico for Michael massie's wedding in the offseason for a week so so that's probably the one and we're doing it so I'm pumped are we using Marriott points yes yes we are yes absolutely whenever I can use points I try to find a way does the coach does some does he do do some recruiting the trip to Mexico or no yeah I I don't think I'll be allowed to be recruiting on that trip I don't think my PlayStation will make the trip with me what does she think of this because you know it is a long season for you guys and you had what Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday so you have like four solid days where you don't have to do anything in the middle of your baseball season and I could imagine you were like the little kid like you were probably um posting up with a bag of chips on your belly and you had your drink next to you you know your your Stanley Cup like I do All-Star break with a really long straw like did she literally not see you for hours on end even though you lived in the same house yeah I simply asked for two days I said give me two days where I have no responsibilities and that then I'm good and she did that she was very uh understanding we walked to the dog you know four or five times a day we went to dinner one night uh other than that she she did a great job left me alone and I just grinded you know just just got after it virtually that's a that's a solid relationship I'm not so sure that that early in the marriage my wife would have been okay with it yeah well you know I wanted to go home to Nashville for the break and she didn't so that was a that was a little compromise that we made so you guys just stayed in Kansas City because of the 100 degree humidity she really enjoyed soaking that up yeah well it was mostly because she didn't want to drive or or fly and leave the dog in Kansas City and spend four days in Nashville without the dog so you know so we're at the point of the relationship where she loves the do dog significantly more than she loves her husband yeah but I mean we were there before we got married I think I love finding out about this stuff all right um since we're kind of on the football train do you want to talk about your beloved Jets or not yeah well so we're in La this year at the New York Jets Dodgers and I'm hitting one it bat and there's a Jets Jets Jets Jets chant that breaks out from a few guys which thank you to those guys because that was incredible so that's the biggest thing I get chirped about at stadiums currently is the Jets and uh after this year I won't be getting tripped about them anymore when they make their run so I'm excited I don't really have much to say because I haven't been following all the training camp stuff too much but they're you know they're going to make a Deep Run so we're confident you know you do know that they have the longest playoff drought right now in the NFL yeah that'll end this year that'll end I think they're uh I think their over under total is 10 and a half half I'll take the over I'll take the over and that they're going to win the division did you see um the little sideline issue that Aaron Rogers had with Garett Wilson the other day yeah I saw I I saw I thought theuh Clips were funnier of what people said that they were saying um I thought that would have been really funny if Garrett Wilson actually said to him like we should have been working on this in mini camp but you were in Egypt yes uh I don't know and those are two guys that two best players on the team so they're going to figure out uh they're just upset I'm watching the C yeah they're just upset something happened I guess and they're figuring it out that's fine it's training camp who cares that's what it's for yeah I don't really care have you ever gotten into it with a teammate on the field before I can't imagine you you would do that maybe yes n and I did earlier this year um it was a it was one of his first games back but we've played together for years so it doesn't matter but there was a flyball uh where had to drift back a little bit um he called it I didn't he or maybe I heard him I don't remember what happened but I ended up catching the ball and we started yelling at each other on the field which was kind of funny what do you yell at somebody I mean you either hear somebody or you don't it sounds accidental not Getting into it with teammates intentional well yesterday there was a video uh Joel Goldberg who's one of our who's our like sideline um does a good job yeah how do you say that Dugout reporter sideline reporter what do you say in baseball fine either one he posted a video yesterday I was coming back into the Dugout and I started screaming and um because somebody hit me in the head when I was walking through giving everybody high fives if I leave my helmet on for some reason in baseball if you leave your helmet on when you're walking through the Dugout people just slap the [ __ ] out of you in the head and it's so annoying it makes me S like I think it was in New York earlier this year somebody hit me and I thought I had a concussion um so now normally I take my helmet off when I go through because I don't like getting hit in the head and when you take your helmet off people are like oh I won't hit him in the head um but I left my helmet on somebody hit me in the head so I threw it down and yelled few explicits and he posted the video which was kind of funny but yeah that's me getting into it with somebody I suppose yeah I've seen that a lot obviously Adrien Bel who just got into the Hall of Fame you know that he was famous for not ever wanting his head touched and so once somebody figured that out oh here we go let's see the video there you are oh yeah you got your helmet on now you take it off oh oh were you searching somebody out at that point yeah it was Adam Frasier I knew exactly who it was oh wait he knocked it off or did you knock it off he hit me and then I tried to slam it and it's reminiscent of when Harper tried to throw his helmet and slipped slipped right out of my got it okay yeah well that's the um that's the downside of hitting two homers in a game I guess huh yeah I'll take it I'll take it any day of the week but still I don't like getting hit in the head I don't have like a head problem like like whatever I'm not Adrien belr I just don't like getting slapped in the head yeah well I saw that the other day um Jose Ramirez I think had that happen in Detroit Brian roio came up and was literally tapping the back of his helmet and Jose who you can go ask Tim Anderson whether or not he's got a short fuse he turned around we thought we were 2 homers vs Guardians going to have another one except it was going to be teammate going down in The Dugout so I'm just happy he didn't get to that sort of level yeah yeah um I do want to ask you about other uh home runs this year you went deep consecutive days against my Guardians I am curious at any point while rounding the bases did you think of me yeah just it was actually just the whole series I was just thinking about you um we played pretty well against the Guardians did series and yeah you were in the back of my mind the whole time just uh just letting you know but the problem is is whenever we don't play them every time we win they win so I also think about you those nights because because they're doing a nice job of uh holding serve what feels like every single night that we win it's true uh gosh almighty this is uh this is painful so yeah like when my family we watch what' you oh big Christmas isn't that a great nickname great nickname we say it all the time like we watch all of his bats whenever like sometimes we have other games on you know when we're in the clubh housee or something the big Christmas that's the best nickname going he doesn't hit a lot of singles have you had a chance to have him at first base yet uh yeah a few times I think he walked or something uh talked to him a little bit seems like nice guy he supposed to be a really really nice guy like how how old is he I think he's 25 or 26 he's not 22 he's been in the organization a while gotta he did hit a foul ball Homer against us that was fair somehow yes yeah I I remember that one yeah that was it we did get we did get the uh we got a good call for that one I think that was maybe the one game we won there in can City yeah I think so okay um so yeah maybe you can walk me through this because I consider you a a good friend of mine now but you are you're very hot team and you're chasing my Guardians whom I really love really really love so how do I handle this like am I supposed to root against you when you're I don't like rooting against you that's what that's Trevor plof does um he just Roots against anybody that's not Facing Chris’ Guardians the twins uh specifically the Royals I'm pretty sure um so that's what you could do you could just go full on hatred uh for the team yeah I don't but I don't like doing that I like you as a person I want you to do well I want you to get a great contract I want you to not have to count Marriott nights and Marriott points at some point in your career I want I'm always going to be carrying counting Marriott points points that don't matter like I've got my favorite restaurant in Kansas City that I go to for lunch pot belly I mean I'm grinding points right now on pot belly getting free sandwiches left and right so if you get a nine fig contract one day you are still going to be the Potbelly card carrier yeah 1,000% do you clip coupons when you go to the grocery store no I don't do that no I don't grocery shop though I don't I don't nor I grocery shop in the offseason but during the season I I don't think I've stepped foot in grocery uh I've been to Target a few times this year was that to go get college football 25 no no no I ordered that online no the only no actually I could tell you why I went to Target that day is because it was last week because I woke up and we didn't have coffee cream it was like 8 amm there was no coffee cream so I was like well gotta go to the store so went to the store then I made Ryan breakfast and she woke up with breakfast in bed and little did she know I had been out of the house for an hour going to going to the grocery store what did you make that day eggs bacon sausage toast classic American breakfast are you a old school like grease it up bacon sausage guy or are you new school chicken sausage turkey bacon no just standard standard normal bacon normal sausage you can eat that in your mid 20s when you two work out the way that you two do yeah you'll make hey you know what I did during the break I forgot to tell you this um I went to a women's workout class in Kansas City like one of those like Studio workout classes okay what is what is a women's workout what is the it Going to women’s workout class was it was in like a hot room okay and it was like there was like three other guys there I think and it was like 50 like women and it was like 45 men what was it called like power sculpt or something right power scul okay I got you I thought I was in a pool after that workout because their eye was sweating so much it was insane and what was well first of all did you go with Ryan with two NS yeah yes I did go with Ryan I did not go alone creeper yeah yeah I did not go alone I went with Ryan okay and did anybody recognize you um one person did on my way out but that was it so you didn't wear a Pas quentino Jersey while working out no but it was funny the only shirt that I had at my house to work out in was one of those like long sleeve ones with a little KC right on the front so I was wearing like a royal sink it was the only thing I had at home that I could work out in you went long sleeves in a sculpted hot room yeah I have a I have a picture of me afterwards I think on my phone oh you can send it please send uh afterwards I will would you go back yeah it was cool like I can see how they stay in such good shape like it was intense it was I mean it was 45 minutes of work um so it is it like uh is it part yoga is it a lot of body weight work what is it that caused you to sweat immensely I think it was just a constant movement um you're doing like two minutes of you know uh reverse lunch switch legs then do like jumping jacks like burpees different things I don't even remember everything that we did but but it was fun I don't know if I will go back again this season but uh I had a good time okay uh I love it that you two did that stuff together it's nice that you crawled out from under your video game for a 45 minute sweat to the oldies sort of deal that's awesome I did have a really awkward moment at a gym over the break too I went to a Chiefs f that's like a it's like a local gym or whatever and when I went to the front I was using a guest pass and the guy at the front didn't recognize me and he was like Hey you know he's trying to sell me on the gym he's like where do you normally work out and I just kind of dead panned I was like uh Kaufman Stadium which was like super awkward like he ended up apologizing to me later and then I apologized to him cuz I was like dude like sorry I didn't mean mean to be a dick I just didn't know what to say like I I have no idea factually accurate yeah I mean it's accurate I just I probably could have handled it a bit better but uh I didn't know what to do and I was like I had already had my pre-workout so I was ready to rip so like I didn't really want to be talking I was just ready to go well but I mean In fairness what are you supposed to say when somebody says where do you normally work out like Well normally it's just like yeah you know like I'm traveling I just try to find gyms at hotels or wherever you know but then it takes you down a road that you don't want to go where he is literally trying to sell you a MVP award it's it's basically he and judge uh is there something that is taken his game to an entirely new level that you didn't know he had in him uh not that I didn't know that he had um but I mean lately he's been pulling the ball in the air which is like for him made a massive difference since the allstar break uh like early in the year he was hitting a ton of like opposite field home runs or long fly outs the other way um and any analytically speaking or any anal analytically thinking hitting mind will tell you you need to pull the ball in the air because that's where your most efficient fly balls will be because you spin them better normally you hit him you know you just hit him a little bit more pure and he's been doing that and he's you know he's got four or five Homer since the break which I think has helped him uh but yeah he's just I don't know he's just a nightmare for pitchers like what do you do you throw him in he'll he'll pull it for a homer because that that was the hole is you can you know if there was a hole that was it get them in you know don't go away because he can get his arms extended and he can take you you know he can take you 400 feet the other way but right now he's just you know he's walking which I think is probably the biggest thing for him is that he's allowing them to walk him uh which he didn't do as much before and that's unlocking you know he's seeing more pitches the next time he's more comfortable swing at the first one he's just doing things at a really high level right now and it's just I don't know I've never seen anything like what's currently happening so what does your mindset change when he gets on base let's say he doesn't hit a double or a triple or a home run and he's on first do you have to have the thought process of oh I got to give this guy a chance to steal what is it at the beginning of the year I think I thought a little bit too much about that but lately um him and I have a really good working like relationship when it comes to that too like we talk quite a bit can you get this guy what are you thinking um so I kind of know what he's thinking too especially the more that we play together um you know the easier that's become but i' I've started to worry about it less where it's just okay I know a pitcher is going to be quicker to the plate when he's on base and I know I'm probably going to see more fast balls early in the count because they don't want him to just be able to steal so it's giving me an opportunity to be more aggressive than I normally would be early in the count which is super nice for me um because I can just you know give it a shot and if I can put something down the line or in the Gap he's scoring and that's a really good spot for for me personally to be in with that much speed in front of me that's nice seeing more fast balls isn't it yeah I've see more fast PS is really cool what what were the two pitches you saw last night slider down and change up like up middle of the way okay is that your first Show multihomer game first one yeah first one in the same place that I hit my first ever Homer is the uh is the phone blowing up afterward more so than normal yeah last night was definitely more so than normal um but uh yeah it was cool uh I hadn't gotten a hit in Detroit this year so before last night so that was a that was a good one because I wanted to they they owned me the first time that I was in Detroit this year so yeah there wasn't and we're recording this on a Friday for people that don't know there there weren't a lot of baseball games so we were kind of locked in on the the Guardians game to start out with and my oldest son Josh goes damn it you know he's like the Royals of course are up three nothing I was like well let's see if our buddy did anything he's like yeah Vinnie hit three run Homer I was like no he didn't he goes yeah he did and so once again we you're causing us angst in the Rose household yeah well you guys are causing us angst because every like I said every I swear like I'd like to know the record of the Guardians on days that we win their record's obviously really good anyway but the days that we win it's it's got to be especially good I know it is kind of crazy that's that that part is true uh so the trade deadline uh passed earlier this week um what is it like in a major league locker room for those final few hours it was it was different um because Trade deadline this year the past two years like I've been used to oh okay you know our high leverage guy where's he going to go or one of our better hitters where's he gonna go um and this year it was like who are we going to get um now at the end of the day that means somebody has to leave the clubhouse too which which stinks um but the exciting piece is this is what good teams do um you make moves at the deadline you do different things things uh to to strengthen what you're doing and you get ready for this final push so it was uh especially the last probably 15 20 minutes I mean everybody's just watching the TV looking at Twitter seeing what's going on um especially me because I like pay attention to kind of what's going around on the Le in the league more than maybe like most guys do but and maybe I probably shouldn't as much as I do but I just think it's exciting uh just as a fan of the game like the trade Deon is super cool seeing the different things that happen you know especially when it's the Royals do this um because that you know that's the team I play for so that's super exciting um to see so I mean some of the guys like all the guys we got like bringing in a veteran like Paul D young it's massive for the team just having another guy with with as much experience as he does then some of the some of these guys that we brought in uh you know Michael lenzen Hunter Harvey Lucas hereg I mean these guys are nasty and it's it's going to be fun to it's going to be fun to watch them do their thing and we're excited to have them and I think they're really good fits into this Clubhouse yeah plof and I both thought that the Royals did extremely well like ersg he hasn't been as good the last two months as he was the first two months for Oakland but he's still I mean that power fast ball plays hard good slider um I thought the Lorenzen pickup was really interesting because in our opinion as we've handicapped the American League Central we kind of broke it down okay Cleveland's got the best Bullpen Minnesota might have a slightly better lineup than you guys although it's pretty close and then you guys definitely have the best starting pitching and then to kind of add him who's had such a good year we thought that was a really uh interesting move but I want to get to D young he goes I mean he must have felt like he got out of jail uh yeah I mean I don't want to talk Paul DeJong trade about what's going on in somebody else's mind or something in a different Clubhouse but I think he think he feels good about where he landed um he walked across the hall you guys were playing him yeah he walked in and he was was wearing white socks uh apparel and I was like what the fu I was I was like yelling at him when he first came in like that's the wrong colors like we don't wear black and white in here uh which was kind of fun he's like well I need somebody's got to give me something then because I got nothing this is all I got uh so it's been it's been cool getting to know him um yeah I think I think he's pretty happy with where he's at okay you all just um so the White Sox had yesterday off they'll start a series I think with the twins tonight they have lost 17 games in a row including a real tough one to you the other day where they had yet another lead late it seems like they can't I don't know how many times you guys have come back against them but it's been several um is there a little bit of you that Feel bad for the White Sox? feels bad for the guys over there and it's okay if you don't because I've I've asked that question to other guys and they're like no we're all professional athletes yeah I mean at the end of the day like you try not to feel bad for anybody in the game because it's it's a harsh game you know everybody's going through it at the same time I I think for me like I know quite a few guys over there from playing with them um it's it's a really good group of guys that they have like I know like I just said I know a lot of them like it's a really good group of guys and you know you obviously never want to see anybody lose that many in a row but at the end of the day like it's our job to to to beat them it's our job to beat every team so you know as bluntly as I can like no I don't feel bad for him because it's our job to go out and and play every night so um you know they got to do their thing and and like I said good group of dudes like talking to them um you know they just got to figure out a way to to get through it could you imagine having to do this for two more months if you were on the white side I mean I know that the Royals have struggled for a couple years when can you explain to people what it's like when you know that out of it and there's still two months left in the season well I think it that's just when it comes and that's where it kind of where it sucks the most is it turns into such an individual game at that point where you're just you're almost just trying to survive um like we were talking about on the opposite end of it I was talking about it last night with a few guys in our clubhouse with just how little like I matter on a team that's winning and I meaning like the individual um because if you win oh I went 0 for four who cares you know but if you're if you're on a team that's not in that position you know you go over four you start overthinking things a little bit you're trying to you're chasing your own numbers instead of just chasing victories and it's a tough spot to be in um it's the reality you know for for some teams I've been on teams like that and it's it's not the most fun you try to find you try to find the positives wherever you can uh but it's definitely it's definitely a tough a tough thing but you get to play spoiler which which is fun as its own way in its own way um when you're playing a team that needs some wins and you're able to able to take from them um that you know that's an opportunity for you to grow as a clubhouse too I know when we we went down to Houston last year and swept them when they really needed some games um that was a cool moment for the Royals last year so there's always positives to to be found okay I got a positive for you the Pas The Pasquitch Squatch sandwich yeah how many how many have you eaten I've had a half of one um it's a heavy sandwich yeah it's a it's a heavy sandwich I had an after game uh one night so I'm not the biggest uh I'm not the biggest like either pre- or post game like I wait until way after the game normally until I get home to officially eat so that's a that's a sandwich best served hot uh not letting it sit around for a little bit so it's a really good sandwich though guys in the clubhouse like it seems like the fans like it so I I'm pretty proud of what uh what aark and the Royals came up with uh with that I I thought it was a really cool thing all right so walk us through the entire I idea from its Genesis they approach you hey Vinnie we want to give you your own sandwich in the ballpark yeah so that's kind of how it started I our clubhouse manager Jeff Davenport came up to me and said hey there's this idea with a sandwich but we want you to have your own mark on it we want you to approve of it so I'm going to send you some options of what they're thinking they sent me three options I picked the one I like the most we kind of worked with it from there we did some taste tests I kind of said I like this I I like that or I don't like this I don't like that then I said let's add bacon um because bacon never hurt anybody no uh and so yeah here we are now and it's being served through the rest of the year at uh at pasquantino down the left field line pasquantino yeah there's a cool it's like this really cool poster pasquantino I'm trying to let them I'm trying to get them to give it to me at the end of the year so I can hang it up in my garage or something I think it'd be a cool thing to have hell yes it would be yeah okay do you get like uh 17 cents of sandwich or do what do we do some of the proceeds I'm not sure what the exact percentages are but some of the proceeds are to my knowledge going to Wayside waves which is an animal shelter in Kansas City that I've worked with before so that's that's happening and then for players weekend I'm using a bat that has their logo on it which would be cool I think on Sat on Saturday of players weekend I'm doing that I love that that is that's sweet as can be you should do another portion that go directly to your Marriott points yeah and we should get more than just the logo on a bat it need there needs to be a picture of the pass Squad pass what do we call it a pasand what is it A Pas witch shout out to Cameron ker who was a a groomsman in my wedding and one of my best friends for coming up with that name uh so shout out to him yeah how did that's pretty good that he came up with that yeah he came up with it I he texted it to me he said this would you know that feels too easy huh yeah and and here we are now all right sorry Robbie we got to play a little bit of the sound full we just can't show the ad that you did with pass Squatch so let's listen a little bit to this here Vinnie's Italian beef pasit it's like us part Italian part pasat m beefy and Italian you want to feed me smell that that's Italian beef how long how long did you spend with the pass Squatch shooting that probably about 15 minutes uh one of the things I'm very proud of is that that was one take no yeah we were only in there for like 105 minutes nailed it they had like 20 lines I said them done did the pass quatch talk no he stayed in character the whole time didn't say a word didn't say a word I think after I think we said hello but that was about it he grunted a few times it was kind of awesome it was kind of badass somebody asked him a question [ __ ] and I think he just [Laughter] went did he try and eat the the pass quitch no he did not he just held it held it out like you know held it in his hand sometimes those things can get a little goofy the fact that you nailed it in 15 minutes got in it was this on a game day and everything it was uh we went in at like 2:30 3 o'cl so it was we did it like three or four days before those that commercial came out and what do the teammates think they actually like it uh Bobby sent me a text he had it at night he sent me a picture of him eating the sandwich which was really funny um K Isbell really liked it got a text from him after the game because there's a hash brown at the bottom the hash brown sold it you know a little Crunch at the bottom of the sandwich I think helped a lot nobody has said anything bad about it to my face so that's good what did they say about the ad with pass Squatch I don't think anybody really said anything about it I thought your acting skills were pretty solid thank you I think that's why nobody said anything about it yeah you think you think there's a whole lot of compliments being thrown around in a clubhouse not a lot not a lot at all do do you have an acting background I do oh wait have we discussed this yeah yeah we have haven't we yeah you were you were a thespian all yeah still am some say I don't think it goes away well but if you don't work on your skills I just did last week as you could see that was impressive thank you I love it did you guys take photos together and stuff uh I believe so I don't really remember there's a lot of cameras in there so I don't know if some were doing photos some were doing video you should put one up in your house of the two of you I think it'd be adorable the the costume's kind of terrifying like it's a legitimate like it's very real but it's the same guy who walks around the park right yeah I at least I think so I mean do we don't think there's multiple patches I don't know I I used to say you've never seen us in the same room together I can't say that anymore I mean does he still walk around when you hit home look at that soft smile with soft Eyes by me right there I know it it is it's warming you ever heard of dreamy because that's that's what it looks like right there I mean and you're a big guy for people that don't know you're what are you 6'4 you're almost 6'5 aren't you 6'4 250 yeah the pass quatch is holding his own I guess yeah I mean the first thing I said to him was kind of a dick I said uh man you're not as tall as I thought you'd be did it did he smell no not not noteworthy at least because Homering on Bobblehead day those things can get a little funky yeah but since we did it early in the day I don't think it was like outside you with it on all day you think it does get hot City yeah you think they cleaned it before this maybe I hope so but how do you clean that dry cleaner yeah here you go hi yeah no starch in the patch this time please yeah that's right um You homered On Bobblehead Day your Bobblehead Day which uh did you feel added pressure because of that no no just feeling good you know that's it just feeling nothing but positive vibes that day nice change up up middle we like those I hope more people throw them that was a good day that was good who you pointing to who you pointing to around the bases the bullpen the bullpen you gota you gotta give some love to the bullpen after a homer and if you don't you have to buy beer for the team so make sure that you uh make sure that you acknowledge your Bullpen well Who the hell's going to forget that then did has anybody forgotten I've forgotten twice this year no you haven't sometimes I this year I've gone on streaks where I haven't hit homers in like 20 games so you get so excited like I get so excited that I'm like yes I did it again that I forget what what beard is there a particular brand that the bullpen craves the ones I've bought the most I think was Kors banquet Kors banquet yeah is that any good I'm not the biggest Coors guy in the world but I don't hate it okay so if you had your choice if you were in the bullpen and you said this is my order you would be going I just I like Bud Light personally that's my that's my go-to uh beer Bud Light interesting yeah I've always been a uh a Corona or a Heineken guy but it's got to be in a bottle you're classy I Going to college went to Old Dominion so we were drinking Bush and Natty light so I upgraded lights yeah so I'm about I'm about to send Brady our young youngest uh to college a couple weeks it's going to be very very sad you know exhilarating on one hand because he's growing up and this is fun sad on the other hand um do you remember your first few days away at College like did you hate it did you love it um well so we we had summer school all the baseball guys had to go to summer school and it was just us and the soccer girls and the field hockey girls so we loved it yeah I don't think that we cared all that much we were having a good time uh I think everybody was happy to be away from home and to just it was like mini College which was the coolest part about it like I summer school was awesome you had I think we had two classes and then we just we got a bunch of like points on our card or not points but like monarch bucks whatever they called them so we we'd go to class or we'd go to Chick-fil-A in the morning we could use our points there go to class and then go to Tropical Smoothie every single day it was amazing Tropical Smoothie did you go to class I did until my end of my sophomore year second semester of my sophomore year and then junior year I had all online classes wait that's not because of why why did you do all online because I so I made a deal with my academic adviser it was at first it was it was Meredith McCall and second it was Amy Lynch I made deals with them that if I got good grades my freshman and sophomore year that they knew what I wanted to do they knew that I wanted to play professional baseball and it looked like we were in a pretty good spot to do that um so they said if you get good grades we will allow you to not have to go to class and just take online classes and I did that I I you know I did my part well good for you I mean you lived up to your end of the bargain I did and I got my degree which I told them I would do did you graduate before you got drafted no I graduated in so I got drafted in 2019 I finished so I only had like I think I had like 12 credits left I took six when I was playing rookie ball in Burlington North Carolina and then I took another six in the fall or in the spring of 2020 So Co probably helped a little bit be able to just knock it out but I ended up getting my degree in the winter of 2020 so you didn't have a chance to walk huh I think I could have but I didn't want like no I guess not if it was 2020 probably not that's a great accomplishment though man not easy like particularly once you leave you know yeah well I promised my dad too that I would get it so I made some promises when I was younger that I needed to do some things and that was one of them so good for you yeah thanks what's the degree in Communications of course of course it is yeah you know but again I took it I took it because I wanted to take journalism and broadcasting style classes and public speaking classes it wasn't just to get a degree yeah you yeah I could see that yeah yeah I hate telling people I have a degree in Communications why because the immediate reaction is what you just said oh of course h communic a yeah no no I say of course because you're such an effective Communicator no no no you said Comm [ __ ] that's true no come on man or no all right all right fine I believe you I believe you I'm proud I'm I'm like proud of you I'm proud of you that you got your degree and all of that and I'm saying of course because this is what you do like if you couldn't Mash baseballs for a living you could do what we do easily in fact you'll probably do it once you're done yeah my goal is to just take pof's job can you be here Monday yeah I'm hoping he's on the call when we play at Minnesota next week oh I don't think he is I think yeah I don't think he gets any of your games I think he ducking us that's what it is he specifically is ducking the Royals I think that might be it yeah I think so too yeah well this is what he does he's uh he's kind of a travel snob so he wanted the two New York trips this year here um I know he's got one in San Diego obviously he's going to go to Milwaukee a couple times he likes Chicago so I know he's done that so you know he's staying out of my hometown he's staying out of your which I would like to make it clear I'm not talking crap about the twins I'm talking crap about Trevor plof everybody gets it okay I just want to make sure no nobody in Minnesota's gonna be like oh that Vinnie pasquantino is such a meanie I just want to make sure because he's a he's an alltime Royals hater in my book g to have to bring that up on today's edition of baseball today with him I love it because it's going to get him so frazzled he's gon be like he's gonna be he's gonna say something like no I'm not I just point out the facts that I see I love this um I know you got to go but I I want to ask you real quickly about uh you and salvi and I saw Bobby wit you went to soccer game in KC right yep saw you down there on the field KC Current game ahead of time why does it look like they actually understand what's going on with a soccer ball when you're supposed to kick it around and you're sitting there trying to knock it into a goal with like your first baseman's M no no no is a header it's a header was that really a header it it look like you used your hand no no no that's a header um those balls are so hard like that didn't feel the best like but also both of them are ridiculous with soccer balls like Bobby's just floating the thing on his foot and then salvi's doing the same thing they're juggling like I can't use my feet yeah I saw you hit it with your hand yeah right there yeah yeah yeah I'm not that coordinated yeah is Bobby Whit like did he grow up playing soccer or is he just such a damn good athlete he's the best at everything yeah jerk yeah look at salvi yeah he's good he's good all right both of those guys are ridiculous I'm just lucky to be along for the ride with both of them um are you guys watching the Olympics at all in the clubhouse yeah they're on we're not really like I'm not super into the Olympics so although I do think the gymnastics stuff is cool when they're like flipping around on the bar like those dudes are one jacked and two like I mean that's insane I do have a cousin who's trying to be in the Olympics she does gymnastics for uh she competes for Alabama I think so that's cool that's some serious stuff like if you think that like she doesn't we don't have the same last name Alabama Gymnastics roster oh I clicked Camp wait a second is this this must be like a seventh cousin she's my grandmother's brother's granddaughter your grandmother's brother's granddaughter yeah so she's the equivalent of what you are on that side of the family got it Lily Lily Hudson Lily Hudson she's a senior now I don't know if that means she's going to be a senior she got a 10 on the vault in January of this year a 10.0 a 10 on the balance beam 10 has to be the best you can get right I would suggest that's probably accurate see she's got a lot of accomplishments here okay 2020 2020 she was 2023 all SEC what conference was Old Dominion in Conference USA oh you were in Conference USA they the Sun Belt now you you must have been first team All Conference USA maybe I don't know what do you mean maybe who else I may I I think I was second team my junior year second I don't know I maybe I don't I don't remember that feels so long ago okay all right well I'm going to wrap it up I want you to go at least get a little grind in before the bus I got a big game coming up who we playing uh Arkansas State I think that's so funny because that's Brady's team yeah yeah I think it is yeah yeah for people that uh want to know like Brady started playing this too our youngest son and uh I said boy that's all Vinnie's been doing he goes well i' I just got a job offer do I stay at Arkansas State or do I become like the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame or whatever it is one thing I do find annoying about the game is I tried to start as a coordinator you know build my way up but if you're a coordinator you still have to recruit the other side of the ball so I was an offensive coordinator but you still have to recruit defensive players which I thought was annoying so now I just I just started a new one as the head coach what do you get paid if you're a Florida Coach you said no idea they don't give a contract offer yeah fiveyear contract that's all I know okay yeah it's not about the money it's not about the money for me it's about the Marriott points got it yeah which speak I do my I do have a credit card that is just for Marriott you have a Marriott credit card yeah okay yeah oh Marriot bonvoy yeah way to cover up the numbers and everything that's good yeah thank you don't worry people are going to try and take a still shot and try and remove your fingers from it better safe than sorry you know well
