Taye Diggs stars and Executive Produces "Terry McMillan Presents: Forever" now playing on LIfetime

[Music] hello I'm Scott Patrick in the disc Studio what a lifetime lifetime is celebrating 40 Years of entertaining audiences and this network is aging very well as it continues to be one of the most popular channels on Dish a new film debuting right now on Lifetime is Terry McMillan presents forever I got the chance to sit down in Zoom with one of its Stars Tay digs but first here's a preview of you met my girls you're ruining my life hate you this is an easy day with them what you've never had a father before it's the man who's here every day taking care of you that's the guy you call Dad I've never been in love not like this T digs I've never been more scared I just Megan good I glad that you're here I'm going to be here for you all of all forever I'm counting on that Terry McMillan presents forever Premier Saturday August 24th at 8 only on Lifetime all right Tay welcome to Dish and the dish studio uh let's start at the very beginning gets off the plane um he gets thanked for his service which is really nice the first thank you for his service and then served the some uh some divorce papers yeah that's not that's not the uh the uh the most uh exciting way to to be received after uh serving a country but uh but you know were it not for for that situation he would not have ended up in uh in such a such a beautiful relationship absolutely and let's talk about how that gets set up he gets pulled over for speeding um and that could have gone pretty wrong but instead sure it's every uh every uh every heterosexual uh male's I guess fantasy is to be uh stopped by a cop that is uh that is that intelligent and beautiful and ends up just uh being just a wonderful a wonderful life partner you know I I love this uh I love this story because it's it's uh it's unashamedly um uh about people that have kind of been through uh relationships before uh it it it lets everybody know that that uh it's never too late to kind of give up on love uh second and third chances can sometimes work and uh you know that can even happen with uh with extra family members um Megan Good Megan Good plays uh plays my love interest uh we're both producing this this piece and uh her character has three three girls three sassy uh you know uh intelligent just uh whip smart uh uh uh females and they uh they give me a run for my money but but uh you know the love uh the love is so strong that that we uh we give it a solid go absolutely wonderful wonderful love story absolutely What would you say is more difficult tour of a military Soldier or tour of a home with three daughters I think probably with three daughters probably yeah probably the three daughters um and I have to say it was it was so much uh whenever we had uh shooting days where all of us were on set you know they were singing they was dancing you know people were youtubing and tick tocking and Instagram it was it was it was a it was it was a lot of fun it's it reminded me of theater actually um because it was a true Ensemble everybody uh brought their aame and uh yeah it it was it was a it was something else uh it's it's quite emotional as well it was it was great to uh to kind of I haven't done anything like this for a while because uh you know I've I've been playing uh a a football coach and it's a it's a different it's a different kind of muscle um so uh to be uh you know Back in the Saddle Again with with an actress as amazing as uh as Megan Good it uh it felt it it felt uh it was very satisfying yeah we see the Chemistry Between the characters but there's such great chemistry between the two of you you have to be really good friends and uh talk about that just the joy of being able to work with her sure well she's everywhere these days uh and rightfully so we actually worked together for the first time on this my first uh my first uh uh St into uh television there was a program on UPN called Kevin Hill and uh it was about a lawyer uh uh you know a a hot shot lawyer that that ends up having to adopt uh uh this toddler and uh and then you know the L has to go on and try to continue his career but he learns a lot about himself and parenting and and um Megan Good plays the uh the mother the mother of the uh of the toddler that has to give give uh give the little baby up for adoption and then she ends up trying to uh to get her back again so we met years ago on that we uh we shot in Toronto and I remember having like a snowball fight with her uh after we uh we finished working so she uh she's just as much she was uh probably me because I'm I'm I'm just amazing and everything but um since she's not here he's uh she's just as uh she looks even better than than she did then if you can believe that and she's just as talented and uh and uh and then lovely as she was uh back in the day absolutely and you see the words and the dish customers will see the words U Terry McMillan presents when you see those words you always know you're in for a good time I would hope so yeah she's got she's got great taste uh obviously she's an amazing writer and uh you know uh having her at the helm um you know definitely definitely wasn't uh wasn't uh you know uh um giving us pause so uh yeah hopefully we'll continue to to to to uh bust out some some more of these pieces and and uh and hopefully people will will enjoy it as much as uh as much as we did filming it Johnny Taylor your benefit of the doubt has just ran out license and registration it's about time I've been racing up and down the street all week trying to get you to to do your job do my job yes pull me over so you'll reconsider going to dinner with me I know that you already said no but I don't your reason is not valid I don't care if you have kids I just want to want to get to know you so are you going to keep all right you can write me up I'm going to be back tomorrow and the day after that and listen I'm going to break the law until you agree to go to dinner with me I can't you speeding again and I'm going to run you in yeah let's talk about how cool is it to play this character to be able to go to the set be this guy for 24 hours uh tell us what that's like I mean this was a cool character to play it was fun you know um uh once again I just came off of a a project where I was just with a bunch of you know talented but you know smelly loud obnoxious men young men that that uh that uh you know played on a football team and to immediately uh not immediately but for the next major role uh to be thrust into you this situation where it's so much feminine energy uh it was a it was a nice uh a nice break and uh you know it's always wonderful when you're working with people that are as talented as professional um and as committed as uh as everybody was on the set um um it had been a while since since um I had been in a romance that's how I got started with Terry McMillan uh so many years ago and Howa Got Her Groove Back so um and then I did a bunch of uh bunch of romantic comedies right after that um but I hadn't done one in a while so it was great to uh to be uh you know um in those situations once again just as a human being I'm a single male and uh and it reminded me how uh you know it reminded me of the the positive elements of of having having a girlfriend so um that was that was kind of uh that was kind of nice too yeah and you know you're part of the lifetime family with this and uh you know a lot of the lifetime things are have the words murder in them save by and and it's also lifetime has really terrific films that are positive and sure and really U you know worth uh for the men to watch with the the people absolutely absolutely what I loved about this uh this story is it's it's not necessarily about two people biting each other's heads off it's it's uh the love is there the commitment is there uh it just kind of shows us all how uh how uh interesting relationships can be uh through circumstances you know um you know you can see especially when you have two two uh a couple that is African-American you know it it it it goes against a lot of stereotypes that are out there um and that was uh that was fun too so obviously raising three girls on my own is hard enough and and yeah their dad helped out financially when he could but I needed a job that was Secure and and had benefits and so I tried out I passed the test they sent me to the academy and uh at first I just worked different divisions kind of filling in here and there and then this job opened up in a town where I could actually afford a house so I jumped right right and uh the father Lamar yeah uh he's in Los Angeles doesn't make much money Drive stock cars and perona was actually never very good at it but he certainly loved the attention thank you um that women gave him I'm sure but uh yeah as a father he was good when he took the time and as a husband we just never really yeah well I was going to say how many scripts do you get and you go oh done this seen that done that right yeah yeah that was definitely one of the reasons why I think we both jumped uh at this I hadn't worked with Megan since um since Kevin Hill and uh and it was uh to type of role where you know you need to have lived a little bit to uh to have uh some of the experiences so we both were able to draw I think uh on our own personal experiences and uh and I think it uh it lends itself to uh to some some really great work I'm really proud of uh of this I'm proud of her and I'm proud of uh of the work that I've done a lot of times you go on a job and it's either just fun or uh you know you kind of just do it for the money but this was thing this was something that uh that I'm really I'm really proud of and you should be all right I appreciate your time yeah I think I interviewed you for How Stella Got Her grew back God that was few hairstyles ago I think you and me both I was a lot darker than I mean so weird you like the movie this much this much but this much it because I like it this much I hope you heal soon physically and mentally that's brilliant uh where did you get that or should I I just bound it literally we'll take that as the truth all right great
