[Music] [Music] lineman work to get horizontal than vertical creating advantages by spreading out the defensive line You'll see a lane form in the Gap and out wide I can't fault Benson for going wide here due to his angle and the pl hole but an over tendency to bounce outside will result in higher volatility and less playing time it's only his first run so we'll see how recurrent this is if our Titan could gain leverage and turn his hips Benson may not have needed to cut this as wide as he did resulting in a moderate gain there is also the creation of a lane here that Benson had an opportunity to take eliminating the sideline as an extra Defender and bailout for the defense don't think many coaches will turn down five yards on first down so a fine result [Music] sender gets exposed he's lucky they're running outside Zone rather than inside watch Benson's feet here he gets tangled up with this guard he only stumbles but something to note when we've seen other backs be more instinctual with their footwork even while St Ling he evades a not so threatening arm tackle attempt regaining his balance quickly and then dispatching a waste High tackle attempt is also [Music] impressive this play is a better example of Benson's athleticism than his instinctual feel as a runner in my opinion [Music] our right tackles assignment is to chip this defensive tackle pushing him more inside then progress to the second level I love the fire in the initial chip but he ends up getting in the way of the play by not finishing his assignment you see he finally lives his head to find the backer and realizes he's Del [Music] late now we're in the way and we're also the only thing standing between our running back and what could be a touchdown this is the reason why Benson nearly Falls here [Music] a theme I'm seeing of Florida State utilizing Benin on the edge is more than between the tackles however it is just one game in a few runs and it's understandable given his athleticism overall everything along the line is fine my only issue is with our tight end not setting a strong enough Edge especially when you have 6 in and 20 to 25 lbs on the die you see Benson make the decision to go outside rather than cut up field I like to see my backs go more north south rather than east west hell of a stiff arm wow a couple of things here one I think our left guard is a step to slow on his pull two I think Benson is a step to quick with the combination of these we're going to see a traffic jam at the point of [Music] attack typically if a Defender gets a hand on her back in the back field we've done something wrong you're going to see Benson chop his feet setting up the safety for a move but he ends up tripping here again because his foot gets caught on his teammate that's twice now where Benson's footwork was a bit in tidy another outside [Music] run a good play by our Center and particularly our left guard nice block would like to see your wide out get to his block a bit quicker he does enough but I'd like to see more aggression you see Benson juk to the right his back foot ends up sliding just a hair causing him to really lose his balance was this the footwork was this the turf hard to say especially given some previous runs [Music] three things I want us to watch one our left tackle ends up locking nobody I mean come on [Music] man two defense makes a good play call blitzing the DB from the playside [Music] [Music] three you see Benson's top half and bottom half out of sync this tells me Benson predetermined his initial angle too much making it difficult to adjust in situations like this his top half can't keep up with his Bott half creating this imbalance it's especially frustrating because he should have his eyes towards the playside he should see the Blitz and know he'll need to adjust quickly ultimately he's not able to correct his imbalance and therefore doesn't provide much of a challenge to the tackers [Music] everyone on the playside does a good job making an easy Lane for Benson part of me wants to praise Benson's Bend avoiding this reach another part of me wants to question the angle he's taking if he is just one step to his left he doesn't need to avoid the reach then he's better set up to attack the incoming safety perhaps a better line could have changed this play the Run stops here but Benson shows off his strength by not going to the ground [Music] [Music] tight end comes from backside to playside and cross lead block based on the count we see on screen we've got a man Advantage but we see the safety already creeping up he's ready for a run then we have the third backer in the four to three set off to our right so now we're at a disadvantage Benson is going to read the Mike linebacker if he's attacking backside Benson goes playside and vice versa we see the safety do a good job moving laterally into the Gap he finish the play making a good tackle on Benson this was a good play by the defense particularly the safety whether his assignment was to Blitz or not honestly everyone on the offensive line does a great job on this run left guard holds his block very well pullers do a great job attacking MDM most dangerous man Titan continues to move up field making key blocks then finally The Prodigal sun look at the hit my man lays here this is the same guy who was blocking nobody earlier [Music] now that we've watched the line let's focus on Benson I like his patience following his blocks check this footwork these subtle shuffles allow him to acutely adjust his angle while keeping the defense off balance you see he gives a final small burst off his left leg to narrowly out angle the defender great execution by the line and great footwork by Benson [Music]
