Kirby Smart is worried about Georgia's depth? | Plus, NFL head coach has HIGH PRAISE for Georgia!

Intro [Music] welcome in the dog dispatch I'm John Smith your host here with my good buddy coach Hayes uh coach it is uh August the 21st fall Camp is over we have 10 days until Georgia kicks it off with Clemson and Mercedes-Benz um college football is here I mean it's here it's it's here uh how you feeling how you feeling about the season how you feeling about the dogs how you feeling about summer how how are things going John I'm feeling great man it's good to be back on the mic with you uh looking forward to actually getting to see some actual ball this weekend you know across the pond we got two ACC teams going at it I'm really excited just to see college football in general even though I'm really not a fan of either one of those two teams I definitely want to see some ball being played but our Georgia Bulldogs are done fall Camp uh there's a lot of speculations out there with different things proceed with rosters and you know who's going to make the uh who's going to make the cut who's going to make the bus trip who's going to be showing up at Mercedes VIN on August 31st when they clash with Clemson Tigers but I am definitely excited to talk about all things that uh we have discussed and looking forward to those things yeah absolutely we are going to break that down today we're going to talk about fall Camp we're going to talk about our takeaways we're going to talk about the depth chart a little bit we're going to talk about uh questions from uh our Twitter friends we have all kinds of stuff to cover um before we jump into it uh two things number one if you haven't subscribed to the show uh subscribe on YouTube subscribe wherever you get your podcast really helps us out um we are excited to be pushing A lot of content as the season gets started here um so make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss it um number two uh this painting behind me coach um is lab mccon running over uh an Auburn safety from a couple of years ago um with the Junkyard Dog logo in the background this is from sweet yeah this is from my buddy Chad Barker Chad if you don't follow Chad on Twitter he's at C Barker ATL he is a fantastic artist who does a lot of uh college football and sports um painting so um Chad you know has has uh our family my brothers uh and I have have bought a number of paintings from Chad so want to give him a shout out because that's new in the background there and uh I didn't have a chance to mention on our last show so thanks thanks Chad for um the work that you do uh go support Chad he's he's a great guy and a great artist so um coach we are going to talk about fall camp we are going to talk about the depth chart we are going to talk about uh questions from Twitter we're going to talk about all those things but before we do that um demo NFL Coach has high praise for Georgia! Ryan and Alabama guy why aren't we leading the show with an Alabama guy demo Ryan is the head coach of the Houston Texans he was asked this week in a press conference about Kamari Lasser who was drafted by the Texans and boy demo Ryan may have given one of the best advertisements for Georgia and recruiting players to Georgia uh that I've seen in a long time so I'm gonna we're going to play the clip and uh and discuss what demo ryes the head coach of the Houston Texans had to say about Kamari Lasser and Georgia football for Kamari you can tell like he was he's built for this like when it comes to the mental toughness piece that plays a lot into being a good football player at this level like you have to be mentally tough you have to be have that next play mentality and you know at Georgia Kirby's done a great job you can tell of of raising him the right way of having those guys Kirby's doing a great job with all of his guys having those guys NFL ready to go and that's one thing you see from Georgia like year after year since he's been there right those guys are plug andplay type players and it's a credit to him and his program and how they run things there um it's you get a Georgia guy you know you're getting a NFL player nice coach um could anyone have articulated a recruiting pitch a development pitch anything as better uh as Deo Ryan just did for the Houston Texans um talking about Georgia football players I don't see right now why you don't have freshman in high school already trying to sign their National letter of intent with Georgia that have any you know potential of playing in the NFL I mean just listening to him talk I mean it is a fraternity across the board coach smart even though being in the college ranks I'm being you know where he's at he's obviously raised himself to a very high part on the hierarchy of of college coaches but there's just a small connection that you have also with those NFL coaches as well plus he has some NFL experience so he's taken all the things that he's done and that's what makes coach Kirby Smart such a great football coach it's not just about the X's and O's he has taken the strategies of different people that he has found effective in leadership that's been effective in how they appropriate their football team how they create leaders and embed them within and uh and that's the reason why you're getting these kind of compliments from NFL coaches because realistically it's just an extension where he is at at the college realm at his head coaching career right now with the University of Georgia I don't know if he'll ever take a head coaching job in the NFL or ever go back to the NFL but I do think he is a small extension away from a lot of these guys that are realizing you know what if we recruit or excuse me if we draft a Georgia Bulldog we are getting a top-notch recruit that we're not going to have to spend a lot of time in investing trying to develop he's already developed all we got to do is plug and play as he says I I like that he used that concept Plug and Play how many times have you ever used that with electronics but never heard it in in football terms but it is a plug and play where you install them into the system and it's just that that boot system is just bam it's just in there it's smooth it's ready to go so what a great job by him just basically solidifying what we already know about Coach Smart's recruiting you know and his staff around him and their and their proudness when it comes to uh bringing in those great football players and making them ready NFL ready by the time they're ready to graduate or you know ready to go to the NFL to be drafted yeah and I mean you know the the refrain has been from Mostly Rivals um who are who are becoming more and more bitter Rivals by the day uh on the social Medias but the refrain has been right that uh Kirby is just recruits he doesn't develop you know he he just gets guys that are five stars that are NFL ready from high school and all these things you you you've heard it now Bill bich said it a couple years ago demo Ryan has said it now um talking about um a and even uh Matt rule was talking about it when he said he was relaying last year what an NFL scout told him and basically saying that Georgia runs an NFL development program yes they get good play but that development and those ready is so important and um and you know just a key stat that um that we've shared before on the show but we'll share again you know Kirby Smart has 17 firstr draft picks as the head coach at the University of Georgia and he has 16 losses and so at the end of the day the man has more first round draft picks than he does losses as the head coach at Georgia so that that you know and and a lot of those first round draft picks were people like Jordan Davis who was a three star um people like uh uh Eric Stokes who came in um you know as a skinny running back converted to DB so you know at the end of the day um I I think it's such a good recruiting pitch I think it's so great to hear I also think Kamari Lasser I mean shout out to Kamari last we we know what kind of player um Kamari was going to be when um Kirby Smart was praising him after the after the Orange Bowl talking about he he could have set out and he didn't um but uh for him you know to get that kind of Praise from an NFL head coach I mean those guys they don't they don't hand that stuff out I mean this the NFL is a business it's a tough business it's a performance-based business um and so when head coaches are up there saying those kind of things um you got to you got to really believe um that they mean it so um shout out to Kirby and NFL development shout out to to Kamari Lasser um thought that was worth starting the show with today all right let's move on to Georgia um fall Camp is over and uh and now you know things UGA Fall Camp: Key Takeaways start moving toward game planning for Clemson things start moving toward um installing installing your game plan installing your dep chart install and all those things um Georgia you know escaped fall Camp relatively healthy I mean you have guys uh clearly who who are hurt um Rod Robinson it has turf toe we'll talk about the running back room in a second but Rod Robinson has turf toe Warren Brinson is is still you know trying to come back from an a killing issue um uh Xavier McLoud um has been uh injured and Kirby Smart said he wasn't sure when he's going to be back um you got Jordan Hall that that has an injury to his other leg now um but overall Georgia you know escaped fall Camp relatively healthy in the grand scheme of things a lot of those guys like Jordan Hall is a good example was already injured coming into fall Camp right so um but I did want to talk about two things I want to talk about um first of all let's do give us you know do you have any key takeaways besides the depth chart from Fall Camp is there anything that you know that you've heard that you've learned that you're you're excited about um coming out of fall Camp besides the the depth chart which we'll talk about in just a second I'm perfectly fine where we're at with a depth chart I think everybody gets this mindset during fall camp that we're it's kind of like what are we doing getting all these guys hurt it's football I mean it's yeah yeah we'll talk we'll talk about that in a second yeah what are the key takeaways besides the depth chart I don't want you to I don't want to steal your thunder and you to unload the cannon before we play the the clip so yeah that's the key takeaways yeah the key takeaways honestly is good I mean you see solidification across all the different uh position players as well as your position groups I don't think there was anything that stood out that really just uh made you go oh wow that's going to happen um I think there's growth from those freshmen those 2024 guys that were really high on the depth chart that are going to be able to contribute to so to throw splashes out there so honestly I don't think there's anything that's just you know just a BRI light or deer in headlights look that you're going wow um I think everything's kind of falling into place as how they've been projected since before even fall Camp started yeah yeah um well cool well let's talk about the dep chart then so uh Rod Robinson is Running back Injuries and suspensions for Georgia um it doesn't sound like he he's he has turf toe Kirby doesn't know when he's going to be back it doesn't sound like he's going to be ready for game one um and then Kirby was asked about suspension so we know uh Trevor etn um was charged with DUI and reckless driving he pled uh down and and the and the DUI was dismissed and pled no contest to reckless driving but Kirby was asked about SM mundon um uh Trevor etn a couple other guys around suspensions this is what Kirby had to say um this week SM is charges dismissed soovi had some charges dismissed too I know you've been dealing with this stuff off the field are any of these guys uh Trevor as well um looking at any first game suspensions uh as a result of all of that yeah we'll deal with all that when it comes time ship first of all uh first first of all um we both have kids and uh I have uh I have given that look to my kids many times when they were asking about something that they knew uh they shouldn't be asking about um I love I I love Kirby Smart's disdain uh In that clip just his facial expressions but second of all I do do think um I do think Trevor etn is going to be suspended for the first game this is something that other uh folks in Georgia media uh are starting to uh to talk about and starting to say you know lean that direction as well um these are caseby casee bases right so I don't think that I don't think that all these guys with driving um arrests or driving issues are going to be suspended for game one I do think Trevor etn and again maybe he won't be I don't know Kirby's not going to tell us either way so uh you know it's kind of Nick Sab when he a couple years ago when he was asked about the quarterback situation where he said I'm not going to tell you so quit asking I feel like that's what Kirby Kirby wants say he to say that so bad it's what he wanted to say so bad but um but you know this does put a strain on running back depth so let's talk about that specifically right so if Rod Robinson has turf toe and let's assume that Trevor etn is suspended for the first game versus Clemson what does that mean for Georgia for you know this running back room uh what do it mean for um you know some guys that you that that you know Georgia really is depending on this season um missing a game like that and and who do you expect to step up um from Georgia in that running back room it's amazing to think that I was thinking Branson Robinson was going to be the acclamation running back this year where we're going to see him in spots due to the fact of what rodri and Trevor etn was going to provide but now it looks like Branson may be taking more of those more more of those carries in game one um I'm also going to say thank goodness I've been hearing great things and I didn't want to say it a while ago about my takeway from the you know fall fall practice but Nate Fraser has been turning heads and I knew that he was already going to get spot play anyway um and now it looks like he may be thrown into the Lim life a little quicker it's still may be in the same sort of spurts where hey we're not going to ask you necessarily to pass Pro a bunch right out of the gate we're going to do stuff to get the ball in your hands very quickly you know things where you don't have to think just run and you know that's what you should do as a freshman for him um and then of course I you know I don't know what it is I've talked about it on my previous individual pods that I've done but I'm I like cash Jones I I think that uh I think cash can be a contributor when he's out there I don't really know what the negative stink is about him at the in the running back room but I think he's got experience he's got carries in big games he he's effective when he's in the ball game and I think he provides some added depth even though a lot of people don't see him as being a primary Ball Carrier so I think when you get Branson Robinson Nate Frasier and cash Jones all together there and that doesn't even take into the fact chony Bowen who's been there since spring and uh now you got dght Phillips Jr in there as well so they've got some kids that are getting totes that are getting experience and unfortunately it may be a little Trial By Fire by a few of them because the game's going to come out them 100 miles a minute but I do think our running back room is still going to be in really good shape for game one against Clemson if Trevor etn and rodri Robinson which I agree with you I think Trevor is going to be probably suspended for game one and like I said we'll all be guessing to the last second cuz coach smart is not going to tell us he's not going to let us know to probably last minute and uh I'm telling you turf toe is something hard to get over especially if you're a skill position player it's really tough I know they're trying to get him back as soon as as possible but he he needs to be 100% before they put him back out on the field that's not something you can go back at 85 90% because it'll just nag you all all year long so that's my takes I think those three will take care of business along with those other guys that we mentioned yeah and you know and I will say you cash Jones um you mentioned it uh you know didn't see a ton of action but I mean the guy had uh had 189 snaps you know last year um and in those uh in those 189 uh 89 snaps a a good percentage of uh of those were um were pass Pro were pass blocking you know a lot of it was was clearly garbage time in um you know versus you know like Tennessee Martin for example versus Florida State but um but he he he's been on the field right and I and I do agree with you I do think um I do think Georgia you know will certainly um if Trevor etn is suspended I think Georgia's going to be fine with Branson Robinson with Nate Frasier with cash Jones I wouldn't sleep on Dylan Bell you know Georgia did this last year um a little bit when they were having issues with depth um at the running back position of lining Dylan Bell up um in the back field uh running some stuff out of that formation um as well so um so that's you know I think I think the running back room I think there is going to be you know maybe some angst um especially as things get closer and potentially this suspension gets confirmed but uh but I do think that Jord is GNA be gon to be fine um but overall Kirby did have some comments last week um to talk to share about Kirby Smart's comments on depth at Georgia depth and this is kind of where I I cut you off because I didn't want to steal your thunder about about depth earlier but um Kirby Kirby made some comments that I think were taken out of context so we're going to do two things one I'm going to read uh the first part of it and then I'm going to play a little clip Kirby said he said last week we are nowhere close to where we need to be as a team I feel like we have less depth than we've ever had and that's kind of a common theme talking to other coaches I call it the deterioration of football every year we've been here I feel like we've had more players capable of going in and playing winning football and every year that number goes down so we have to keep working to increase that number so he basically saying you know in that in that part of the answer um we have less step than we have ever had the number keeps going down of of players who are capable of going in and playing winning football then he was asked um uh to expound on that a little bit later in the press conference and this is what he had to say I don't know I don't know if it's transfer portal or the deterioration of football could be less people playing um high schools not having uh as much of an opportunity to develop kids because their practice uh regimen and and practice schedule is tougher it's a trickle up effect so we get the guys coming from the high school level but do we have the same number of players so it you can't blame the transfer portal for that I think we lose some continuity um in terms of guys that have been in the program multiple years Therefore your next statement of making it easier for a younger player to play um I don't know it's any easier because he's up against um guys that come out of the portal but we have less guys that know uh and execute our system um and we're not even really considered a portal team I mean I don't know how many we've averaged over the last four years I can't imagine it's it's even double digits I mean we don't have many guys uh coming from that so um but it's not as much quality depth that I'm used to uh but we probably have more than a lot of people all right all right coach so two things one um a couple of media Outlets took the first part of that answer and ran with that where he said um I don't know if it's the deter the deterioration of football uh and they ran with that as he was equating the transfer portal with the deterioration of football which is not what he was saying at all so that was taken out of context what he's saying is the deterioration of football is there are less players playing at the high school level there are um less players even in high school and you know this maybe you can speak to it in a second um as a coach is that the way that the rulle rules have changed around practice schedules around what you can and can't do you know when I was playing back in the day it was two a days in the 100 degree and you were and you were you know sleeping having sleepovers in the gym and all that other stuff and you can't do a lot of that anymore and so he was talking about the players coming in from high school just being ready to play being developed being further along but then you did mention the transfer portal you know saying that that there's um a lack of continuity and what what he means by that you know for those who are interested in this kind of stuff is like you have players there's a reason why Kirby Smart has focused on uh players in year three at Georgia getting them on the field and it's because you come in you learn the system you learn the terminology you learn the signals you learn uh your position you learn the the reads the calls the keys all those things and by year you know by year two or three you you know the system that you're in you know the position that you play and and you're ready to go play winning football and what he's saying I think with the transfer portal is that you know Georgia loses a lot of guys and so when you lose a lot of guys that's that's players who know the system players who know their position player who's know how execute jaman Dumas Johnson is a good example of a guy who played you know damn near a thousand snaps uh for Georgia and then that's gone that's that's gone out the window to uh to another team and so um coach tell me a little bit about though like besides you know people taking out of context which is ridiculous how how should you know Georgia fans feel about Kirby Smart saying I feel like we have less depth than we ever we've ever had even though he did say at the end of that we have a lot we have more than a lot of people have but but what is what is how should we take that as Georgia fans how should we feel you know feel about that and and what's your take on the deterioration of of of football at the high school level the finale sentence that he said is what we need to hear probably as the take-home message because he's right as the number one team in the country we do have a lot of depth there but well I think he probably as a coach and as a coaching staff I will um talk about this in two in two parts first off I think the NFL has trickled down into college football obviously we've been saying that I've been saying that for a long period of time it's almost like college football is becoming just a a small subdivision of what NFL is and now to me college football is trickling down into the high school level because of these kids that are wanting to go be a high recruit and the nio money that they're talking about already just to be recruited and and brought into a football program so if you really want to play football at the high school level I mean you are participating in that sport nine months out of the 12 typically especially if you go deep into the playoffs you only have about two or three months off and I mean for people who wanted to be a multisport athlete a lot of times they have to make a decision by their freshman year of high school what do they really want to do where is my passion where does it lie and that's what he's talking about in that regard and why you're probably seeing more limited numbers of who's wanting to participate in said Sports football being one of them because it requires so much time you got to be a dedicated individual to want to play high school football your summers are gone go ahead and say that right now your summers are gone the spring is gone about the only time you have off and if you go and I watch my son for four years ago 13 14 and 15 deep in the playoffs when he was at Calhoun I mean they go all the way up to December I mean and then you've got maybe a little bit of January a little bit of February off and all of a sudden you're getting ready for spring and March with you know the workouts and things of that nature so I think that's where he's coming from from that perspective which does limit you know the amount of kids who are interested in the game as well as the fact now that you're looking at taking away walk-on opportunities because of the scholarship increases if those things you know come into play and come to fruition uh the second part to your question I want to say is with his you can almost see it in his voice when he's talking I just hear those deep breaths as he lingers through those conversations because as a coach when you're putting stuff up on the board two and 3D and you do have in your head you may not think he's going to say to the Press he's going to say to the fans you know we're out there seeing who our best 11 is going to be sure you are but you already got a pre-nap A precognition in your head of who your 11 are both on defense and on offense you can say that you're going to see who that's going to be at the end of fall camp but you already have an idea who it's going to be it's the same reason why when you go out and do that first individual drill by God the ones you want to start are probably going to be the first in line more than likely so you know when you have all of a sudden sudden a Warren Brenson who's banged up a Jared Wilson on at Center who's banged up you've got a CJ Allen who's banged up all of a sudden you're having to rotate those ones and twos so like you're running a perimeter drill and then you're going to inside drill and you're like oh crap we don't have one Center we've got to bring the number two up we got to rotate the guard over here there's that constant ju toos of trying to get people in the right spots and if you don't make it effective and pre-plant it correctly you can have very you can have exhausted reps could have wasted reps I'm sure you probably heard that concept before when you have wasted reps it it's it's a waste of your time and time is everything when you're practicing when you're in five minute periods so you know I think that's where more of his frustration is coming from because it's a constant Daily Grind to figure out okay who we missing today who's not going to be out there today okay we got to rotate these three to the to the ones these three these three on the number threes we got to go to the twos and when we go here you can just see where I'm talking about that constant rotation of going through different things makes it very frustrating and then when you finally get someone back like you know Jared Wilson I heard got you know he he practiced in scrimmage to which was uh you know kind of a a breath fresh air you know sort of a side relief to hear him back at Center you know all of a sudden now that kind of changes things back it changes the appropriation of how you do practice so and then that kind of connects over to what you want to take out on the football field so I think that's what he's trying to convey to the press and trying to help them understand the frustrations of the depth because if the depths not there and they're not getting reps and all of a sudden you see that sort of Disconnect between your ones and your threes that have to play twos and you're having to make them grow up fast and with that I think that's what kind of creates that crunch because all those guys that are leaving to go to the portal or sort of that meat of the sandwich you know you've got this Elite group on the front end and you've got this Elite group but maybe not as cerebral on the back end and there's not a lot in the middle you know you take for example look at our defensive line you've got T Ingram Dawkins Warren Brinson Nair Stackhouse but behind that is Kristen Miller Jordan Hall and jaw Jarrett and J Jarett he's one that you would think would fit that middle but you know he hasn't done very well from what I understand I haven't heard a lot of good things about what he's you know if he's developing if he's you know trying to fight out for those number two spots so you know and so after that now you're talking about 2024 guys those freshmen and those red shirt freshmen who you know at times can spot and do a good job but other times are creating problems and with that connection and that chemistry you want and that's where Kirby's coming in saying you know we haven't had that kind of depth that he wants to see where he can take one guy out and put the next guy in and there's not a drop off and that's where he's beginning to see a problem I don't think that we have that big of a problem I think he sees it more because he's just OCD type A he's over the top and he wants to see us sucel and that's uh that's something that you know we've just got understand as a fan and we've got to understand the press needs to understand that it's just a frustration that's built up in him but when it comes down to it we do have a lot of talent and we're going to see that grow this year yep um and I'm gonna take one other just quick uh side angle um is uh I also think you know Kirby Smart we one thing we know about Kirby Smart is he's going to use anything he can as motivation um as challenge for guys and so I think part of that answer I do think you know clearly it's a it's a point of frustration for him clearly it's it's something that he uh is is trying to deal with um in this new world of of football in general uh but what I will say is I do I do think some of that could be a little bit of him uh challenging some of the guys too right like you know when anytime Kirby anytime Kirby goes out and says something about depth or something about we don't have guys who can do XYZ you got to think a little bit of that is him speaking um to the to the the players in the room and so um so I think that's something that uh uh that Georgia fan should keep in mind could we call that uh could we keep call that indirect psychology instead of reverse psychology because you know he could be talking about a JN Jarrett who he wants to see you know be that plug-in piece at the D line who's not maybe necessarily going out and executing like he'd like to see and uh you know so I agree with with you on that very much so yeah y I agree um all right coach uh so uh that's that's our you know fall Camp um want to talk about depth mostly because that's kind of what you want coming out of fall Camp um I do think that there are some players who uh who are going to surprise some folks we're going to talk about those folk those in a second um as well um I also think you know when you're looking at this week this is such a big week right so Georgia fall Camp has ended this is a quick recovery period and a quick uh turnaround to start installing um a game plan for Clemson um and so uh so we'll talk a little bit about that uh later in the show but but what what happens uh you know just from Coaching staff transition from Fall Camp your perspective what happens um you know in the few days between uh you have that hard push of fall camp for for three weeks and then you have a you know a couple of days uh where coaches you know get together and and look at film and analyze things and talk all that what's going through the the minds of of the staff during those during those days in between the end of fall camp and getting ready for the first game of the year well I think too if you hear Kirby always talk about we're still working on us we're not working on Clemson yet I honestly we have to call them out on that I know they've been working against for Clemson and working uh on their stuff probably since fall Camp started maybe in little bits and pieces but they I I can't say that he hasn't you thought about it yet they've been working on it so um realistically at this point in time his coaching staff are looking at okay what are our strengths what are our weaknesses by what we want to do and install from the things that we've implemented from what we do well to what we do not so well and you know my thing is from a defensive side what I always wanted to see is what do we do when we're in first and 10 we're lying down nothing's changed we're not blitzing what do we feel sound in when we're lined down ready to go defensively same thing on the offensive side of the if we had to run five plays in our sleep and did not even have to do anything except just walk through it we could do it like a zombie they could do it so I think that's what they're looking at they're going to definitely take what their install time through the fall Camp what's good what's not good what can we tweak and make better who do we like in these certain positions do you think that we can count on this person as a number two back up to this position all of those things and those you know those pieces are being put together for the complete puzzle and even if there's a guy injured they know what his capability is so more than likely they're not going to say hey this guy's not going to be in this spot you know they draw it up on the dry raceport or they had the little magnets or whatever they do to create their depth charts they're still going to put that piece there like Branson Robinson and rodri Robinson even a Kobe Young Who I hear is definitely going to be a a very good insert at wide receiver position but still dealing with a hammy issue so they're going to say hey is he better at The X position is he better at the Z position what's Anthony Evans doing for us at the slot versus being at the Z so those kind of questions are what they're going to be doing they're putting the puzzle pieces together they're seeing through their installs what they have done well what they haven't done well and uh they're going to start putting together a game plan to see what's the most effective way to stop Clemson's offense and obviously how they're going to execute their offense against what Clemson does on defense and that's all part of the install uh as they head into uh like I said less you said 10 days I think roughly 10 days Days days no exct not roughly not roughly it's coach it's 10 so you know and that's what they're doing and that's the reason why it's not just happening today guys like the way I'm saying it's almost like they're talking about it today guys they've been talking about this all the way back since probably the be you know I'd say the end of July going into August they've been talking about their personnel since then they've already been lining up and stuff and showing them how to run things they want to do so those things are happening I don't want you to think 10 days from the game and now they're just looking to install this has been happening now going on probably I'd say for a solid month with person prep and looking at all the they want to do effectively against Clemson yeah yeah all right um we're going to we're going to take we have a few questions from Twitter um if you're not following us on Twitter you can follow me at John tweet Sports you can follow coach Hayes coach haes huddle at Co coach haes Hudl um had a few questions that I that I want to get through uh from the people so we'll start with um start with Evan Grimes our buddy um fear theore G Who’s a Dawg that will be a national name by December? um Evan has a couple questions his first one is who's a dog that will be a national Name by December um I'll let you go first coach I'm going to stay away from the ones that we know like a Mel Carson CJ Allen even maybe Malakai starts I'm gonna say jayen Walker I think jaylen's gonna find a niche this year I really do see if he's if CJ Allen is not our sack leader I think Jaylen Walker Mel will be fighting for it but I think Jaylen Walker's finally going to find that Niche where he's going to be able to be a three down linebacker for us play more snaps and be out there on the defensive side of the ball and be a guy that we're talking about at the end of the season that is heavily counted on we couldn't have had a season like we had without him on the defensive side of the ball so I'm gonna pick Jaylen Walker yep um that's a good pick um I'm gonna say uh Ben URC um transfer from Stamford not a guy who's been in the program um but uh but a guy who um if you look at what Georgia want wants to do with the tight ends um you look at the type of tight end that Ben urk is he can they can split him out wide he can play in line um I think Ben urasek is going to be a guy that no one's talking about right now that by December uh he's going to be a national name and somebody who um uh the national media will be talking about going into the college football playoff as being a key player for Georgia hey Michael Morris buddy if I could vote for you I would at offensive line by God I I want to see you do well this year kids don't think I'm not giving the offense a little there's so many there's so many it's it's it's Michel Michael Morris I mean Dylan Bell I think Young's going to be a guy that people are going to be talking about um we can go on I think you know this happens this tends to happen you know every year for Georgia um it's a good problem to have John it is very good problem to have very good problem to all right second question from Evan um if Kirby got injected with truth serum I love this question if Kirby got injected with truth serum what question would you Questions we'd ask Kirby on truth serum ask him um coach what what question uh this is a good it's really two one's personal really and one's about game uh management but I would say how much do you hate chip Towers would be my first question and then my second question would probably be when you say that you don't get ready for another team prior to getting ready like for fall camp and those kind of things really how early do you get ready for a team and start actually doing install for a for a team that you're about to play Down the Road I'd like to know what his timetable is on that because I know I don't hate to say it he's not lying I'm sure he's probably fibbing a little bit but I would really like to know when he does an install like if they're getting ready for say you know Florida and then they've got you know how they used to do for Georgia Tech behind uh you know the last time they I guess whoever they played last before they played Georgia Tech they were prepping for them afterward so that would be my questions that I would ask him yeah um I'm gonna I'm gonna go with two number one I would ask him um did did they change the game plan did they really throw quote unquote the 2021 SEC Championship game when they got the doors blown off by Alabama um in uh in Mercedes Benz um what happened you know I would love to know his answer when he couldn't tell a lie of what happened in the 2021 SC championship game um and my second one uh also related to Alabama just because these are the kind of questions I personally would want to know he know Nick did he know Nick sa was retiring when they shook hands and they were laughing it up in the on the 50 yard line in Mercedes Benz and December 2023 did he know that Nick Sav was hanging it up those are the questions I would love to ask Kirby because I you know I'm very interested on the um uh the inside you know baseball with in this coach's uh fraternity so oh yeah um question yep y Who will be the highest drafted UGA player in 2026? uh another question this one comes from our buddy Bryce AOA uh on Twitter who will be the highest drafted ug player in the 2026 draft so um that's two years from now so you're looking at really you sophomores and uh and you know um maybe a maybe a red shirt freshman or uh uh or or Juniors I guess that that hang around for the next two years um who's going to be the highest drafted UJ player in the 2026 draft well you know I always tend to fade towards the defense John but I'm going to help an offensive guy out right here because I really think we could possibly see because you think about it wide receivers typically go later he said first round draft pick right oh he said just the highest so just the highest Pi you assume that Jordan is going to have a first rounder so we'll say first round but let's go Ahad yeah let's go ahead and run with somebody like Ernest Green Michel morus Dylan fch I'll just do any kind of the offensive line group that's in in that category right there because they all sort of parallel across typically tackles go before guards so let's say Ernest Green the uh the third I'm want I'm want to say him yeah that's a good that's a good call um I would say um yeah I I I don't want to say the same thing that you said uh but I will say I I'll throw maybe a little bit of curveball I'll say Ernest Green because I do I do think that's who it'll be I think it'll be Ernest Green um but I could see a guy like Anthony Evans creeping up there with the value that wide receivers have in the NFL um him being as fast as he is I mean he's the fastest guy on the team right now besides AR Smith I guess there's a there's a battle between those two of who's the fastest um I think I think um Anthony Evans the third could be potentially up there as well that's a good yep all right another question from uh from Evan at fear the theore G on Which UGA player would we want on the show? Twitter uh what player would you want on the show he says he would love to see Brett Thorson um who would you like who would you like to have you could have one player uh come on the dog dispatch and chat it up who who you bringing on coach there's so many different personalities on the side of the ball but I do know there's one that he's a jokester and does a great job actually of doing live interviews I'd love to talk to Warren Bron I think Warren Brenson does a really good job he's very energetic active he has a great sense of humor he seems to I just like the way he laughs it up so he would be somebody that would be real that I'd like to talk to yeah Warren Brinson was the guy who uh posted on um Instagram posted ston Bennett with his fade haircut and with the with the caption of St Quia quavius yeah yeah yeah he'd be he'd be a good guy um I think I'm going to go I'll go on the offens side of the ball since you did defense I would say Tate Ratt I think Tate would be a good guy um I I grew up in Rome uh my family's in Rome um that's where he went to went to high school as well so I think he'd be a good one too um yeah and would love to would love to talk about the mullet as well all right last question from Twitter um Should Georgia be on upset alert for Miss State? coach uh this comes from uh my my good buddy um at Lounge dog um he's a Mississippi State fan so we need to preface with that um he I'm going to lead into this a little bit before we get to the real question but um he also posted probably the worst looking brisket mac and cheese I've ever seen in my life so teas and peas to anybody who's eating Lounge dogs brisket mac and cheese um because it did not look appetizing and and then number two um he he also was out there uh this week begging for for Jake crane um of the crane and Company show uh to to rank uh to do to pick Mississippi State to win at least five games so he's begging for analysts to actually like prop up the win total predictions so Lounge has just had a tough has had a tough week but he came in with this question so we're going to ask answer his question can you explain why Georgia should be on upset alert versus Mississippi State coach can you uh help our buddy loung dog out why should Georgia be on upset alert versus Mississippi State well the first thing John I'm going to have to call you out on the brisket mac and cheese that sounds appetizing to me honestly I know I'm probably giv sounds okay let's back up it sounds great the picture look like watery mac and cheese that no one should be consuming it sounds delicious I mean i' I've made brisket mac and cheese I've made bacon mac and cheese I mean it sounds great it's just the photo we'll I'll post it on Twitter I'll repost it so the folks can so folks can look but why let's let's get to his question though why why should Georgia be on upsett Al versus Mississippi State uh the only way they'd be on upset alert honestly to tell you the truth is if they missed the bus or missed the plane honestly I think that's the only way they could lose uh I just with your coach that's the new coach is taking over he's got a lot of people that he's got to replace even though transfer portal people they're saying can replace those guys I think they're only bringing back two maybe three on each side of the ball so it's it's tough to be able to see that there's any way shape form or fashion that they could beat Georgia I think if I'm not mistaken they're playing them in Athens too which makes it even doubly harder uh the only way I can see us doing is just we all fall over or something I guess we can't even miss the bus because we're already at home I guess we just all have severe body cramps and just lock up in the locker room and can't walk out on the field but sorry Lou's dog but I don't see that being an upset at all I don't see how it could happen coach do you even know do you even know who the quarterback for Mississippi state is going to be I I don't have a clue no clue right exactly that's the point it's gonna it's gonna be Blake shapen who's a transfer from Baylor right Blake Blake shapen um barely played last year when he when he played um the year before when he played a full season he threw for 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions um this is this is you know not the guy that you want to go into battle with when you're coming into Athens number one number two um I mean you mentioned it uh you know unless something a catastrophe happens with Georgia um but do you know do you know the average score of Georgia home games last year the average window of difference differential um yeah let's go uh 20 no let's say yeah 20 I'll say 20 points a game Georgia was putting up almost 38 points a game at home last year oh total points I'm sorry I thought you meant differential between teams oh the yeah yeah no no 20 for sure it was 20 for sure but Georgia played Georgia played teams that were significantly better than Mississippi state will be this year in Athens last year um played Old Miss and beat Old Miss 52- 17 um uh in in Sanford Stadium played Kentucky and beat Kentucky 51-13 um and I think this Mississippi State team is going to be worse than either of those teams Georgia uh you know unless you're I mean Missouri played Georgia close at home South Carolina played Georgia close at home early in the season uh but I just don't see any way that Mississippi state has even a prayer um so Lounge dog um focus on improving the quality of your photos and focus on improving uh your brisket mac and cheese um because you're going to need you're going to need some comfort food you're going to need some uh some affirmation about your food throughout the year uh because you're not going to get a lot of it from your football team so there correct correct good good call all all right coach uh let's let's transition we're going to wrap it up um we are next week we are going to talk about a Quick thoughts on Clemson Clemson uh preview we're going to do a full preview of Clemson you're going to be breaking down Clemson you're going to be breaking down some some film of Clemson um between now and then um tell us a little bit you know of a few key things to know about Clemson versus Georgia what what should people be start tuning in to now that we are uh 10 days or less uh from the game well you know everything typically originates around Kate kumnick which is the quarterback they want to see be the sort of um the leader of their program um you know coach Luke is out there now with their offensive line they return two of their five starters their guard both guards and their Center will be replaced this year so obviously that's a big deal when you're wanting to do Gap scheme and obviously run the football efficiently they don't really have you know will Shipley's gone now so the their primary back that they'll be counting on uh Phil mafa number seven he he ran the ball very well against Kentucky and the Gator Bowl last year but he's a Bruiser he's more of a thick kid that's going to hit holes and get North and South but he's not running away from anybody um so what I see with their talent at wide receiver they do have about two or three good wide receivers also you know it kind of centers around brinning stool they're tied end they really like him and I know you know Club Nick wants to go to him in any situation so if you're looking at third and situational things like that he wants to go to him anytime he can they do run a lot of motion I noticed that in what I was breaking down today they run a ton of motion to try to get people out of position for leverage uh but they're still going to come at you with zones uh Gap scheme uh stretch plays outside and honestly I think what we've got to do is lock down between hashes and we gotta I don't say that we have to bracket um the tight end brining stool but I I think we have the ability to cover him one-on-one but we're going to have to see if Cade can throw outside the hashes we got to see what his vertical game is cuz when he's given time to throw he's got a nice ball he throws a very good Ball but he tends to do a lot of boneheaded things when he's under pressure and if we bring a lot of pressure on him and he has to make uh plays Under Pressure it's going to be a long day for him at Mercedes ben so I I have broken some plays down for them I'll be bringing that to you guys soon but that's what I see you know from what they do so far and what they showed over the sample size of games that I've watched and uh and I've broken down yeah well uh well love it we will be breaking down Clemson um next week um if you haven't uh listened already a couple weeks ago we we did a preview with um uh Casey um at from Sluggo who's a Clemson um alumni and and follows the team closely a co-host of The Message Board genius podcast so you can go back and listen to that where Casey talks a lot about the depth chart he talks a lot about you know what Clemson fans are excited about and what they're looking forward to this season um if you want a primer before uh our preview um go follow at coach Hayes huddle on YouTube subscribe to his channel um coach Hayes Hudl he's doing a couple of shows um uh per week over there as well um where he uh does breakdowns where he talks about um some deeper analysis on uh on film and and other parts and he's going to be sharing a lot of that between now and then and um we'll be back uh next week to talk to talk about Clemson um talk about you know maybe will do do a recap of uh of what happened uh this weekend the first weekend of college football coach do you have you have do you have a Florida State vs Georgia Tech thoughts lean do you have a lean on uh we'll just do we'll do we'll do Florida state Georgia Tech yeah we'll just do Florida state Georgia Tech because the other games are you know probably not where talking about but uh but tell us uh tell us how you're feeling about uh Florida State and Georgia Tech well you know considering the fact that Georgia Tech and Florida state with the last two teams we played you know I really do think that it's going to be great for just College football being back but I'm going to go ahead and tell you I'm going to take the points with Georgia Tech I like Haynes King at quarterback I like Buster fauler as his OC I think he's done a great job with his chemistry and developing him to run that offense and I think he does a phenomenal job the only problem with it he does have to run out of a lot of the formations they've got him set up to run the football so if he gets hurt that could change the Dynamics of what they like to do but as long as he stays healthy I think Georgia Tech gives Florida State all they want I think Florida State is overrated I don't know if uh the uh DJ I can't even say his last name you know when it comes to the fact yeah DJ U I was going to call him ukulele that's what I used to always say but I'm I'm going to save that anyway but I just think that's something that he is just he's not shown to be that Dynamic of a quarterback and honestly I just don't see after the drubbing that we gave them last year with what they've got coming back I don't know really what they're going to put on the field this year so I with it being in a neutral side across the pond who knows who's going to win that game but I I'll take uh Georgia Tech and the points I think Georgia Tech beats Florida State Saturday there you go coach calling an outright upset listen I'm not telling you what to do okay this isn't financial advice but right now um at FanDuel at DraftKings um what is it and uh and other other places you can get Georgia Tech is a 10 and a half Point Underdog Florida State uh the line is Florida State minus 10 and a half um you can get Georgia Tech at minus 10 and a half um um and I I would put some money that Georgia Tech is going to cover 10 and a half points for four to your point I might uh take a fly I was going to say I covered him at 13 and a half I was thinking it was 13 and a half when I was thinking about it goad yeah yeah no no no but like but I might take a flyer on the Georgia Tech money line um because I will say you know at at uh uh plus uh what is it I was just pulling up at plus 340 plus 350 I mean that's there's some good odds there's some good odds out there on the Georgia Tech money line to win this game out right um I think that could definitely happen and you mentioned it I mean this game in this game in in Ireland um we've seen it happen um multiple times where uh you we we had um who was it uh Northwestern um was uh was one that um went over there and uh so last year it was nav and Notre Dame and Notre Dame I think blew out Navy uh the the year before I think was When It Was northwestern yeah Northwestern and Nebraska right remember um Northwestern Nebraska uh Northwestern was an underdog um I feel like Northwestern was a pretty big Underdog uh yeah nor Western was a 12 and a half Point Underdog went over there and won the game versus Nebraska outright just straight up won the game and then uh then that team uh didn't win another game the entire Seas season yep I remember that now that you say it yeah yeah so they went 1 and 11 after beating Nebraska as a 12 and a half Point Underdog so uh the the the Mojo the the ju guu all that stuff uh in Ireland can can really go with that Underdog um uh I guess unless you're a triple option team like like Navy but um yeah but anyway that's that's our show um go uh go put some money on Georgia Tech to cover that's the last nice thing we say about Georgia Tech this year believe me but yeah so uh really enjoyed it thanks for tuning in um we'll be back next week again go follow coach Hayes huddle subscribe to the show subscribe to the podcast subscribe to coach's channel uh and we'll see yall next time [Music]
