foreign 1944 amidst the turmoil of World War II one woman stood steadfastly against the German occupation her name Lucy abrac Lucy a history teacher and mother was a key figure in the French Resistance [Music] under the code name Catherine she participated in daring operations including sabotage and aiding The Escape of fellow resistance fighters from German captivity perhaps the most audacious of her Feats was the rescue of her husband Raymond abrac who had been arrested by the Gestapo Lucy conceived a daring plan she met the Gestapo claiming she was Raymond's pregnant mistress desperate for a wedding before their child's birth she persuaded them to let her have a marriage ceremony with Raymond at the Civil registry the Germans agree seeing it as a chance to capture more resistance members [Music] but Lucy had a different plan on the day of the ceremony a group of resistance Fighters stormed the registry guns blazing in the ensuing confusion they whisked Raymond away right under the noses of the Germans these audacity didn't stop there later when she and Raymond were both wanted by the Gestapo they escaped to London Lucy was heavily pregnant and gave birth to their child during the journey [Music] after the war Lucy returned to teaching but her story wasn't widely known until the 1980s today she celebrated as a heroine of the French Resistance Lucy abrac a teacher a mother a wife and a formidable fighter her courage and cunning are a testament to the indomitable human spirit in the face of adversity [Music] an amazing story of bravery and love that continues to inspire us reminding us that Heroes exist in the most ordinary of us
