Eddie is contacted by his ex-fiance and Wang who tells him that she is now engaged to Dr Dan Lewis to Venom's displeasure Cletus who has been found guilty of his crime s and sentenced to death by lethal injection invites Eddie to attend his execution Eddie speaks with Cletus who insults Eddie provoking Venom to attack Cletus Cletus bites Eddie's hand and ingests a small part of the Symbiote back home venom has an argument with Eddie about wanting more freedom to eat criminals and the Symbiote decides to leave Eddie's body and go off on its own as cletus's execution begins a red symbiote emerges and blocks the inje named Carnage it goes on a violent Rampage through the prison freeing inmates and killing guards Carnage agrees to help Cletus break Francis out of ravencroft in exchange for cletus's help eliminating Eddie and Venom Mulligan visits Eddie at home and warns him about the situation at ravencroft Cletus frees Francis and they travel to the St Estus children's home to burn it down Mulligan grows suspicious of Eddie and arrests him Eddie contacts and as his lawyer and reveals that venom has separated from him as Venom makes his way through San Francisco by hopping from body to body and finds him bonded to Mrs Chun and convinces him to forgive Eddie Venom reunites with Eddie after first bonding with and to get into the police station and they escape custody Cletus takes Mulligan hostage and Francis captures an taking them both to Grace Cathedral where Cletus and Francis plan to get married Eddie and Venom arrived to fight Carn while Francis seemingly kills Mulligan by hanging him with a chain Venom is overpowered by Carnage but provokes Francis into using her powers to separate Carnage and Cletus Venom devours Carnage and kills Cletus while the first film script this marked the official beginning of work on the film for the studio and was revealed alongside confirmation of Avi arod Matt tlmi and Amy Pascal returning as producers Hardy and harelson were also expected to return for the sequel along with Michelle Williams in the role of Eddie's ex-fiance and weighing no director was confirmed with Sony considering replacing fly due to his was excited to adopt the comic book version of Carnage for the screen and explain that the Symbiotes were designed to reflect their hosts so he differentiated Venom and Carnage by reflecting Eddie and plans to change the film's release date as the worst kept secret in Hollywood following the box office success of Shan Chi and the legend of the 10 rings in early September Sony moved the film's release date forward 2 weeks to October 1 65 music main article Venom Let There Be Carnage soundtrack Marco Beltrami was revealed to be the composer for the film in December 2020 after previously an abominable 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but that didn't stop audiences from flocking to see AE Tom Hardy embody the character in The corny 2018 Standalone which racked up an astonishing $864 million plus worldwide no surprise then that parent Studio Sony whose grip on the Marvel Cash Cow has been limited to Spider-Man and his spin-offs rushed to Greenlight a follow up that would pit Venom against his most recognizable non-s Spidey Nemesis back in early 2019 managed more than directed by motion capture star turned aspiring Blockbuster Helmer Andy Circus Venom Let There Be Carnage has all the indications of a slap Dash cash grab the set pieces look sloppy the visual effects are all over the place and the laughs come largely at the movie's expense but it does introduce Carnage so in that respect mission accomplished the irony of course is that in their haste to get a sequel into theaters the execs couldn't have known that a global pandemic would swoop in to delay the release by a year if only they had slowed things down and taken their time to hash out a better story Kelly Marcel's script feels like she was tasked with taking dictation on a square one spitball session where the attitude must have been there's no such thing as a bad idea so long as all ideas were in service of getting Venom to square off against his blood red adversary serial killer Cletus cassadi a suitably derranged woody harelson who's been possessed by the same extraterrestrial symbiote that infected Eddie Brock acting even more erratic than he did in the original a not well-looking Hardy shares story credit on the borderline incomprehensible script which switches genres on Ruben fleer's earlier entry where Venom took the Fairly novel approach of treating a comic book origin story as an alien body snatcher horror film the follow-up plays like a cross between an 80s mismatch buddy movie where the characters share the same body and off-the-wall gym carry comedy the mask the disjointed First Act finds Brock Hardy still struggling to coexist with the shape-shifting space blob which manifests as a tar black piran toothed Siamese twin SL mutant tumor the metaphorical monkey on Brocks back growling insults only its host can hear and demanding human brains to nourish its insatiable appetite Brock has managed to keep Venom operating on a diet of chicken and chocolate but the parasite who incidentally behaves an awful lot like the ET and the far more entertaining Korean parasite movies Can't Hold Back much longer in theory that could have been licensed to come up with another memorably over-the-top public embarrassment building on what ex-girlfriend and Michelle Williams refers to as that bizarre Outburst at the Lobster restaurant from the earlier movie instead we observe Brock a Haggard tabloid reporter who looks like he hasn't slept or shaved in weeks trying to play house with this unruly organism as promised over the Venom and credits Brock has landed an exclusive interview with haralson's cassadi relying on Venom skills to solve a case that eluded police detective Mulligan Steven Graham that scoop puts casadi in line for the electric chair until the Symbiote increasingly unhappy with Brock's host fuses with casadi with much stronger and more destructive results relative to Marvel's more humanoid Heroes most of whom are just bulging muscles in bright skintight suits Venom and Carnage were freaky looking monsters by comparison whereas the earlier Venom movie was relatively restrained with how the Symbiote behaved the sequel aims to show a took the Fairly novel approach of treating a comic book origin story as an alien body snatcher horror film the followup plays like a cross between an 80s m match buddy movie where the characters share the same body and off-the-wall gym carry comedy the mask the disjointed First Act finds Brock Hardy still struggling to coexist with the shapeshifting space blob which manifests as a tar black piran toothed siames twins SL mutant tumor the metaphorical monkey on Brock's back growling insults only its host can hear and demanding human brains to nourish its insatable appetite Brock has managed to keep Venom operating on a diet of chicken and chocolate but the parasite who incidentally behav an awful lot like the Ed and the far more entertaining Korean parasite movies Can't Hold Back much longer in theory that could have been licensed to come up with another memorably over-the-top public embarrassment building on what ex-girlfriend and Michelle Williams refers to as that bizarre outbreak burst at the Lobster restaurant from the earlier movie instead we observe Brock a Haggard tabloid reporter who looks like he hasn't slept or shaved in weeks trying to play house with this unruly organism as promised over the Venom and credits Brock has landed an exclusive inter interview with haralson's cassad relying on Venom skills to solve a case that eluded police detective Mulligan step Graham that scoop puts casad in line for the electric chair until the Symbiote increasingly unhappy with Brock's host fuses with casadi with much strong stronger and more destructive results relative to Marvel's more humanoid Heroes most of whom are just bulging muscles and bright skin tight suits Venom and Carnage were freaky looking monsters by comparison whereas the earlier Venom movie was relatively restrained with how the Symbiote behaved the sequel aims to show a broader range of Tricks leaning heavily on unconvincing computer generated effects to Showcase both characters potential while casad uses his powers to track down mutant girlfriend Francis Barrison AK shriek Naomi Harris Venom breaks up with Brock and hits the clubs crashing a costume party as himself the executions too clumsy for the concept to register but if you take the trouble to deconstruct the movie you'll find two very unconventional romances Natural Born Killers cassad and barison spend the film trying to bust out of confinement and get married while Brock and Venom slowly learn to accept one another as life Partners overseeing it all is suus who understands the technology required to get the necessary virtual performances better than almost anyone but demonstrates almost no vision as a direct this despite showing promise with Earnest Awards bit drama breathe and dark Ultra ambitious CG Jungle Book adaptation mle but his Venom mry is garish and ugly to look at as digital characters wreak havoc on buildings we don't believe are in the first place at roughly half the length of the latest Bond movie before credits Venom Let There Be Carnage seems to have been cut to within an inch of its life leaving Phantom traces of scenes that were either scrapped or never shot why is casad so angry at Brock he repeatedly refers to a betrayal that circus never bothers to depict or else maybe it got cut after test screening badly later there are segments clearly missing from The climactic Showdown as when we see Venom pin beneath a pile of stone blocks where did they come from and wasn't he Brock just seconds before good luck trying to make make sense of such gaps or the last minute hints as to where this franchise might go next including a mid credits tease that connects Venom to the Spiderman Multiverse maybe he'll feir better there despite two dedicated features to his name and a prominent role in Sam ry's similarly dis pointing Spider-Man 3 Venom maintains enormous untapped potential that someone's sure to figure out eventually e
