welcome to Houston Texas and the house Billman and Andre we built home to the Houston Cougars where the fans are ready for liftoff today a battle in the Lone Star State and when you play another team from Texas it just feels a little bit bigger as we'll see a squad from the Big 12 the Texas Tech Red Raiders taking on another team from the Big 12 and an in conference matchup the Houston Cougar for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] started and the Red Raiders will kick it away [Applause] [Music] first takes it inside his own 20 chance for great field position here probably needed to pick up an extra block or two but as it is he'll be stopped at the 28 so Houston's offense will get the first swing of the game here he comes and obviously a defense is always going to be aware of a quarterback but boy he finds a way to put defenses on their heels all the time David I mean what can't he do he's got the weapons he's got the confidence he's got the experience Jesse these kind of guys are so hard to defend you're right they better be able ble to find a way to get pressure on him cuz if they don't this is going to be a long day stopped at the 42 but he got 15 yds on the play one big play and now they've got it at the 42 yd line on first down at the 45 on his way he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs they'll give it to him again he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon or if I can quote the great Reese Davis that was very UNG good not a productive first down play third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off they're bringing heat pressure in his face and he lets it Fly another incompletion on third down offenses know and work on it all week third Downs third downs we got to be really really good this offense not good on this third down it could come back to bite him fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and that is just about a perfect punt as he pins him deep inside the 10 yd line so Texas Tech offense will go to work for the first time today as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up the these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football game this is a tight end that not only is going to play with his hand in the ground but he can line up in the slot as well and attack the defense vertically he's too fast for linebackers to cover and he's too big for DBS to cover he's a real weapon in this offense brought down at the 33 but not before he gets 10 and this set of downs get started from the 33 first and 10 looking for a man it's Morton and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down hey man if you're going to force incompletions when the QB's thrown to the tight end you better be physical nice job with the hit forcing that incompletion throwing right complete downfield major gaps in that defense and he got loose and they finally knock him down at the 41 a first down for the offense he's looking to throw it quickly to the tight end they make the Stop and that'll bring the first quarter to a close defense has dominated the early part of this game and and the stats point that out emphatically let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm as we start the second quarter back at it to open the quarter with this first down play he wants to throw lets it Fly he's got it touchdown Red Raiders and once he founds some daylight it was time to make a house call now that's the way to bail out the rest of the team start with bad field position put together a drive anyway and very confident you can see the quarterback just had a bit of a Swagger ree he was like look all right we're starting deep in our own end special teams didn't help us out but we can fix that right now fellas and they went out and looked so good on that last Drive gets it all the way out to the 33 before he stopped here comes the Houston offense once again they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal Smith dropping to pass fires one high and deep got it into into the end zone touchdown Houston a lot of times you see those receivers as soon as they get by the DBS you know that hand goes straight up in the air I got him I got to step on him he got to step on him and the ball was thrown perfectly out in front you can see he runs underneath it gets it and gets the long touchdown on the go route and we're all square as he's set to kick it away on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Texas Tech ready to send the offense back onto the field Jesse looking to take it down the field for back-to- back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first down looking to move it through the air throws for the tight end fired in there but incomplete the defense was obviously ready for that play they've obviously been watching film they know that that pass play is one of the bread and butter plays this offense has so nice job defending him they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that that one great job by that Defender I mean he timed that snap count perfectly got into the back field and created a negative play the clock has stopped and we've reached the two-minute warning before halftime trying to move the sticks on third down through the air makes the grab it's Brooks and they'll move the chains and get it to the 47 yd line well it's a nice play design there you're getting the running back involved in the pass game quarterback gives it to him early so he can go to work up field get the first down got his man on the outside and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain well he comes up with the reception but not a lot of room to run after that yeah and I like the QB doing this I mean I'm going to find ways to give him the football and see if he can make a miss and I'm going to bet most of the time that my guy is a little bit more athletic than that defensive guy defense won this battle but I like trying to get this guy the ball in space they're going to throw it again catch in the middle it's Kelly putting together a real scoring threat here as they pick up the first down at the 36 the Red Raiders come to the line with a new set of downs starts to scramble to the left can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again here's the handoff pick up of five it'll be third down and five and a nice job by the offense picking up the blitz understanding that extra guy was coming and creating just a little bit of a hole for that running back to Slither through and get some positive yards he'll throw it grabed near the sticks it's Douglas he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down how nice is it as a quarterback when you don't have to throw post routes to get great stats no I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players in the entire nation and let him burn and he takes it to the house touchdown Red Raiders and that is exactly what you want from your offense man late in the half you want to execute and then punch it in physically on the ground Take the Lead going into the half take all the momentum nice execution of the drive by that offense so they got the touchdown and as they kickoff really important for the defense to shut them down here from inside the 15 here's the return maybe if he could have eluded just one or two more guys it would have been a big return but they'll mark it at the 30 the Houston offense comes onto the field this lead in the have you're behind you'd love to create something before the break to build momentum Jesse well you've also had some miscues on offense a big part of makes a grab on the right open Runway ahead touchdown cougar and once he found open space the band might as well start playing yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you Trail a little bit in the first half stayed calm this passing game can continue to heat up look out in the second half so they got the touchdown now going to put it in the hands of their defense to finish off this half and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any creee in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Texas Tech has it back and the Red Raider offense on its way to the field now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come down to how much confidence they have in this quarterback and his decision making because you cannot throw an interception at this part of the field with this little time left and I think that's conversations you've had with a young fell on the sideline be like what are you comfortable with right here that we can run maybe stay aggressive but make I don't make that mistake that is a completely avoidable penalty the quarterback just went into brain lock and lost track of the play clock line gets set first down back to pass it's Morton well the offense got themselves into trouble they're back in their own end it's an obvious passing situation so the defense is just pitting their ears back and they're trying to get after him they could not allow him to escape Step Up Get rid of the football they take a sack very close to the goal line makes the grab referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half trying play action but a little time lets it Go finds his tight end and it is a good idea to gang tackle first guy couldn't get him second guy finally did we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right guys thanks looks like we've had ourselves a very enjoyable first half so far it's been a fun start to this one and this offense has really been the story they've opened up a sizable lead and unless something drastic changes things might get even more out of pain a combination of lethal efficiency and that offensive line has been the key they've mauled that defense and also just about broken their will and with that let's send it back to the guys in the cage in Southeast Texas all right Kevin about ready to get things cranked back up [Applause] here just about set to start the second half hou will kick it [Applause] away here's the return from inside is 10 and the returner is stopped Texas Tech ready to send the offense back onto the field first drive of the second half always fun to watch you see what type of tweaks were made at the half especially when you're locked up in a ball game like this one yeah and it's been a good game I mean it's been a little bit of back and forth in a feeling out process and now once you get in the second half who's going to get aggressive Palmer who's going to take some shots try to make some plays and really go for it yeah it's interesting I think as play callers right now you learn a lot about these coaching staffs with respect to who does make the best adjustments there's a lot of coaches that believe we're just going to be who we are we're going to keep doing what we do we're just going to do it better but then there are others that tweak things a little bit on offense and on defense we're going to find out here they'll throw it on first down got him downfield he found plenty of room and he gets it to the 39 yd line well we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven on the the ground it's Brooks just making a play getting it to the 23 yd line it'll be first down and the Red Raiders come to the line with a fresh set of downs off the play fake on first down to throw makes the grab it's Brooks and good coverage by the defense just a short gain listen I know that wasn't a huge gain it was positive but I like doing more of that in today's college football I'm just going to try to give my play makers a chance to do damage in space away from all the big boys inside fires to the tight end they get him down and that'll be the final play of the third period we've reached the end of the third quarter and we have a potential Classic on our hands all tied up as we take a peek at the stats this is when winning plays are made and we start right now in the fourth they love to start this quarter off with a touchdown right here they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three there is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide on these situations you know the physical ground game comes into play inside the 5 yd line and they match the intensity nice job everybody flying around to the football making the tackle for a loss nice job by this defense man I love the decision making right there like drop back the pass look for your shots you don't see it tuck it get positive yards makes the next down even easier that is a great heads up early down play for this QB and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half they could have tried to break the tie with a field goal attempt instead they'll try to punch it in on touchdown Red Raiders and they've moved out front here in the fourth well they didn't overthink that one fourth and goal down close like that you just turn around David hand it off to the big fell and let him do the rest and a lot of times in these situations fourth down and goal you see quarterback sneak so much they trust the big running back and know he's going to drive his feet forward finish the run and get the touchdown and it's caught from inside the 20 and here he comes he's going to get loose he'll take it to the house touchdown Houston hello ready to try the point after and the extra point was good and we are all tied up in the fourth here comes the kickoff as we are all tied up in the fourth quarter set to K this one on the move from inside is and the ball pops out oh inviting disaster there maybe some nerves on that return but a fortunate bounce and they'll retain possession wow they narrowly avoid disaster there they fumble the kick return and if that goes to the other team all the momentum is no longer with them so a nice job being able to pounce back on that and the head coach breathing a huge sigh of relief they'll snap it from the 25 here on first [Applause] down he spins that thing down the middle they've avoided the interception all day but they were lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again back to pass it's Morton going back to the well another deep ball and they can't hook up going for the big play on second down now it's third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here pulls it on the bootleg fate he's not afraid to go deep he's got it downfield for a huge game well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head spinning just a little bit oh and it's picked off this could be huge in a tie game oh he is hoping to make something out of that return but they'll have it first down at the 39 I get it it's the fourth quarter it's a tie game I need to go out and make a play offensively I tell you what I'm going to be on the sideline now after that interception as a quarterback I'm like please defense please go out there and bail me out give me another opportunity to go take the lead and win this ball now second down after that [Applause] incompletion he's looking to [Applause] throw with the catch it's Johnson finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down a new set of downs after the completion enough for first down they'll throw it on first down got his man all by himself touchdown Houston hello and with that they move out front here in the fourth man how about this offense in crunch time doing what they do getting six on the board now I turned to my defense right now said boys we need one more stop go out there get me one more the extra point is good and now in the fourth they're up by a touchdown and an extra point kickoff team lining up to send this one away Hills start the return inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Texas Tech has it back and the Red Raider offense on its way to the field there's plenty of time to work with here but they have to be highly efficient in their attack looking to take a shot makes a catch down the right side and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it the explosive picks up more than 30 one big play and you go from a little backed up to threatening it's first and 10 from the 40 [Applause] looking to throw it's Morton fires left and he's lucky to get that one back this junior quarterback knows better than to try that too often after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 he's looking to throw b a little time lets it Go makes the catch it's Brooks and he wisely gets out of bounds the clock can be the enemy right now and this offense needs to get some points and that big Gainer on the last one has them ready to go from inside the 10 a first down run on the doorstep he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd line now on second and goal he's looking to throw and good hands there by the defense on that shot to the end zone if they can get it into the end zone here they can really turn up the heat in this one third and goal into the end zone and it's caught for a touchdown and we might just have overtime on our hands number 2 and that extra point was good and we are deadlocked here in the fourth all tied up and just about set to kick it away looking for daylight from inside his 20 they get him Corral but not before he gets that return out to the 35 they'll start this drive from their own 35 yd line he'll come out throwing on first [Applause] down getting some heat and they're able to force him out of bounds after a short pickup well guys let's play some more headed to overtime and this just feels right both of these teams going back and forth so of course David this thing needs to get decided in OT let's see who's better short amount of time to do it a couple possessions probably maybe one possession each who's the better team all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and it's so nice to be on defense first to to set the tone to understand what you need try to hold them to a field goal the offense knows they can do their job to go out and get a win just two possessions Palmer like you got to be at your best yeah and I love the new rules too because in the third overtime possession it goes to alternating two-point plays back and forth who's got anything left in the tank here in OT so here comes our first play of overtime back to throw it's Morton dumps it to the back it's it's complete to the left really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down he wants to start this drive with a pass and swatted down by the defense to stop the scoring opportunity up operating in the Red Zone here on second down off the bootle looking to fire he caught it and he was thinking six but that D knocks him down at the two really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal on Third and short they'll go to the power running game and the defense stands up this offensive line and stuffs him right at the line of scrimmage he didn't get it the tension the intensity the drama the offense steps to the line on fourth down in touch down Red Raiders and they grab the lead here in overtime this quarterback really does a nice job seeing the field and reading coverage and when you go empty and you spread the defense out it's easier to see what the defense is doing now to push the lead to seven in overtime and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven personal fouling the kicker defense so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty the all important extra point would push this lead to seven and the extra point splits the uprights they up 3528 now on first down they need to answer with a touchdown Smith wants to throw a strike downfield defense makes a stop but the chains roove and it's first and goal from the eight first and goal as they try to answer with a touchdown of their own here's the snap looking to throw fires into the end zone oh and this one's picked off a huge overtime turnover and he's brought down after the pick but not before putting his offense in business
