iPhone 16 Pro, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4 - Apple Event LIVE Recap!

technology a live stream this is our second live event and we're so glad if you're joining us live but we're going to recap all the announcements that just came from Apple's glow Time Event including the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Apple Watch series 10 and I don't know if we can count new products as airpods Pro 2 and Ultra 2 but we're going to get into that um I'm here I'm one of your host Ste mes and joining me as always my good friend Jason Aon how's it going Jason it's good it's good we're doing this for real we're doing it for real we are live I see everyone in in the YouTube chat hello everyone ma lover was asking if Jason is at the Apple Park podcast Studios uh which I'm not this time I'm I stayed home they really threw me for a loop having this event on a Monday I just there were some unavoidable things that I could not get out there so yeah so we are we're just here broadcasting from home but uh I just got my recap video out I'll put it in the show notes down on the wire I literally hit publish 10 minutes before jumping on this call so I did the whole recap but I really want to get our thoughts Jason because I have have thoughts about the event thoughts about airpods thoughts about Pro Tim Cook literally said significant upgrades to the entire airpod lineup he literally said that Jason in the event and I don't know yeah and they even said profound new benefits and then listed three things that already existed okay all right let's go let's go in event order here Jason let's try to be organized about this and uh this is such a weird event Stephen it was so weird I feel you did call that they were going to open with stories of the Apple watch saving lives which they did and also uh they talked about just random things they were like so and so likes listening to music on her airpods while on her way to work which I'm like that's cool to see I guess real people using it but people actually do use them because none of us have ever come across someone using airpods on their way to work it's amazing just never seen that it was it was kind of a little funny but you know all right cool cool intro video Tim Cook comes out and he says airpods Apple watch and iPhone notably no additions no homepod mini or homepod announcements no Mac Mini or any of those kinds of announcements no Apple TV none of that just airpods Apple watch and iPhone and uh I'll just say it right here off the bat I don't even want to wait till the iPhone section fine woven Jason fine woven I need I need basic apple gu to make the little Tombstone image fine woven 2020 3 to 2024 that was it yeah it's had its run it's yeah you know the funny thing is I lost my Nomad leather case so when I use a case I've actually been using the fine woven one because it's the only one that goes in and out of my pocket without like sticking to me like the silicone ones do yeah it's it looks disgusting but it's fine as a case it's very fine woven it's it's there's it's fine but I'm glad it's they need to do something better so I agree I was really hoping that we would see a vegan leather option like a cactus leather andar has a great Cactus leather phone there's lots of great vegan leather cases out there from third parties it it feels a little weird to have only silicone and a clear case for the I guess we're talking about the iPhone case right now I'm sorry I should I should have saved it U I'll save okay I'll save it I'll save it because I want to talk about the cases and the capture button and all that so let's work up to it we'll work up to it first off Apple watch we have Apple Watch series 10 no X we got the numeral 10 one0 it is a thinner design and it has an increased display size it has some additional sensors from like the ultra namely water depth and water temperature but also the quote unquote most advanced display so not only is it a little larger on the series but it's actually I actually have the uh the comparison page uh up here we have the series 10 here on the left if you're watching on YouTube if you're watching live hey everybody watching live I see all you in the chat here I have the series 10 vers series 9 vers Ultra 2 which we'll get to that in a second but the series 10 has an ltp3 OLED which is the new newest and the only model to have it the Apple watch Ultra 2 is ltp2 so it is the newest display they call it a wide angle OLED and that's kind of the big story here of and also the case sizing which now the series is at 42 and 46 millim as opposed to last year series 9 41 and 45 the uh the small apple watch it's getting bigger and bigger Jason I don't know if we could say we have a small apple watch anymore I guess this the SE that's the small as you can get yeah I mean 42 in is not huge not huge no 40 yeah 41 mm 42 mm not bad it looks great they also changed the big change is the materials so we have polished aluminum and at least in the jet black and then polished titanium as the materials how do you feel about the materials Jason well I told you I wasn't going to get one unless they had stainless steel so they just saved me $799 so thank you for that see I I mean yeah I the the jet black looks good A lot of people were making the comparison to the iPhone 7 jet black and people like that phone this jet black aluminum might be cool I'm still of a mind where I want the sapphire glass I don't like yeah I don't know just the cracks and how my my orangutang arms hit the doorways everywhere I walk I need the sapphire glass so it doesn't crack but the jet black looks interesting but there's no more stainless steel no ceramic it's just aluminum and titanium but the titanium is now polished and this you know I think also curious how it's going to look compared to like the titanium on Apple watch Ultra but I think I think I'm down for the polished look I like the look of that here's the three colors yeah I think it's fine I mean would you consider going from the ultra 2 to the series 10 well we'll talk about what we bought at the end of the show okay okay because uh it's it's going to be a tough decision cuz battery life I still imagine the battery on the ultra 2 is going to be better I don't know if here on this comparison chart if we have battery the Apple watch Ultra says you know up to 36 hours it's still just 18 hours even on the series 10 so it does have faster charging which I have so many questions about the 0 to 80% battery in 30 minutes I'm like does the current fast Apple watch Chargers on all the three in ones that I have tried over the last year does this include like will it work on those or do you need a special charger for it but so you get faster charging but the battery capacity I mean is that enough you you want to stick with the ultra um I think if you look at specs like the things that matter the battery life that the ultra is still a lot brighter right 3000 it's like 50% brighter which if you're using it Outdoors is a pretty big deal and I mean we're not doing a a good job of going in order but the ultra is still the same like they didn't even update it there's no new anything for the ultra and and here's the thing my my ultra has the blood oxygen sensor on it right so what why it be a downgrade to go to the series 10 that was another thing that was no mentioned during the entire event was blood oxygen right right oh goodness and the sleep apnea tracking which is the only real new health feature specifically for the watch is coming to the Altra 2 like it has all the it has the sensors it needs to do that like they're it's you're going to get the same stuff if you just have the ultra 2 that you already own so I don't know really like other than if someone I do think one thing's clear the the series watches are never GNA get flat sides that's the thing everybody's like make them flat sides which they want to take a mini iPhone and stick it on their W their wrist I don't know why it seems like the dumbest idea I've ever heard of but I think Apple's pretty clear like if they were going to do a dramatic redesign in this form factor this would have been the time when they do it it's the series 10 it'd be pretty dumb if it's like oh series 11 we forgot to do this last year so now we're going to change everything the thing they changed is the size of the screen and the the thickness right yeah and the Sip so the the series 10 now has an S10 sip yeah I just mean that's not a design change no no no no no yeah yeah that's just changes overall but I'm glad you pointed out the whole sleep apnea thing because I did not cover my recap sleep apnea if you have a series 9 from last year or an Ultra 2 that actually is going to get apnea notification so they'll be a part of the software update so you don't have to upgrade just for sleep apnea tracking the ultra also has a side I don't know how often you use that Jason also highspeed water sports and recreational scuba of 40 met I don't know if you do any of those Jason yeah we've so here's the thing they they uh was it Jeff Williams was describing the ultra as the Ultimate Sports watch and I still get people who comment on the photo I shared years ago which was me sitting in a soccer game holding up my ultra two or whatever Ultra one at the time and saying yes this is the ultimate watch for sitting and watching someone else do Sports it's perfect it is true it is true um but like go back to the battery life if you want the most battery and never think about battery it seems like the ultra 2 is still the one to do even after a year I mean my ultra 2 battery is still amazing and you still get the sleep apnea stuff I'm just I'm curious about the design oh and also I like how they said uh you know the S10 chip will enable double tap on on the newest watch and I I was going to Tweet it but I didn't I have not used the double tap gesture once in the last year I don't even know when to do it do you I mean do you use the double tap I know I don't even I don't know uh there have been a couple times but only like not as a regular it's never made it into my here's how I use my Apple watch I've because really it's like it's only useful like if you want to pull up your list of Widgets or whatever whatever we call those things other than that it still doesn't let you pause and start things it's it's just weird yeah yeah yeah it doesn't work with pocketcast which is what I'm us most of the time so yeah double tap okay uh there is also a Tides app which is the first time Apple has its own first party Tides app there's been great third party apps for that in the past and I'm sure there'll be differing features and stuff but that looks nice I I don't know when I'll use it but it it looks really cool maybe at the beach where where I want to gives me a fall detection because I hit a big wave so anyway that's cool that's what I need is more reasons to get fall detection alarms going off on my phone seriously every time I sit down in this chair I get a looks like you've Fallen should we call one SOS so exactly so series 9 pricing $3.99 starts with the aluminum model if you want to go with the polished titanium you're up to $6.99 $300 premium there you get the three finishes in the titanium gold slate and um the natural uh well we'll say what we ordered later 42 that is cheaper though than stainless steel was right cuz doesn't stainless steel like $7.49 or something like that I think I think it was 700 well it's 749 for the larger size so if you go to 46 mm it's 749 for the Polish titanium which is like Apple's so good at the uh the price tiering you're now only $50 away from an ultra an Apple Watch Ultra which starts at $4.99 but yeah you could pre-order today let's see are they still uh in stock if we get a uh a rubber solo Loop let's get the light blush and uh yeah one of these no Trad clicking things it still says oh you can pick it up on the launch day but the shipping times are slipping right now September 25th through 30th right now for it always depends on the configuration I mean you could choose a different color Apple watch band and it might change the the shipping time so yeah that's Apple Watch series 10 anything else I missed I mean that's that's kind of it it's not really big I mean for the series 10 I don't I don't know I just I don't feel like oh I'm sorry yes there's one one thing this is life-changing because it's going to mean I'm going to get that I will no longer have to answer a question that my 10-year-old asks me constantly about his Apple watch SE now it won't help him but someday when he updates his watch he'll be happy which is you can now play media directly from the speaker on the watch and he wants to know all the time why he can't rock his you know Imagine Dragons from the speaker on here he has to only do it from his airpods right cuz he doesn't have a phone he only has an Apple Watch and his is just an SE so unfortunately this isn't going to help him as much but right I actually think that's seems like a no-brainer like why has this not been possible why can the only thing you do is talk to people on the phone and for a 10-year-old you can understand why like I can hear your voice out of here but I can't hear the pretty people singing voice why do I have to just listen to you instead so that is true yeah the the sound thing is weird I'm trying to look on this comparison page where it says uh like can you play media or whatever uh it's very strange I don't I don't imagine the S10 sip is all that require I don't know no it's got to be they redid the speaker because they had to redesign the speakers in order to do the case thinner and stuff whatever speaker that they put in there clearly is just higher quality and more capable of doing that and then the other piece of it is probably the improved battery life gives them a little bit more margin that they can spend on that because if you just imagine my son he would have Taylor Swift coming out of his watch all day long until somebody ripped it off of him and his battery would last him like 45 minutes and so I imagine that the combination there is probably probably what happened Steve Penny in the chat saying 40 plus new watch bands and he is right there's actually a lot more colors especially if you uh the ultra ones have new colors the solo Loops all the new colors this is kind of like the fall refresh uh as you would and we have the one I'm excited about this was announced with the Apple watch Ultra 2o not that that that's new but the new color but here you got the some new colors here the bands the loops all that kind of stuff The Ocean band there's now a black Ocean band and a Navy Ocean band also an ice blue oh shoot that one might get me right there I didn't see that the first time ice Blue Ocean band but these millanes Loops these millanes Loops there's a redesign millanes in titanium I still have my stainless steel for my original Apple watch Jason that was the one I got on launch day April 2015 with that original Apple watch and it just the stainless steel millanes never matched well with the uh titanium Apple watches and so now I'm looking at this one I'm eying it doesn't ship till October though uh even right after the event it wasn't shipping till October so I'm not sure what the deal is there but I'm down to try that that I mean that looks serious that millanes looks intense I don't I don't know the Apple watch ult doesn't Ultra doesn't feel like the kind of watch you can dress up well I mean the Giant Orange button on the side and it's fine it's like I think it's a great great watch but like I just still have whatever this Trail no it's not a loop it's whatever this band basically sure I don't know just it's just it just velcro's on every day and it's great I don't ever think about it so and also uh I don't know if they took a picture of your Apple watch but here in the middle of this one on the Apple's website it says falling I guess that's you 100% of the time that's me I'm falling just falling all the time okay also Apple watch Ultra 2 zero Hardware updates zero new features it is the exact same Apple watch Ultra 2 as last year just comes in black satin which is pretty sweet cool but it's hard to call and here okay Stephen this is the thing I was really frustrated about during this event because I'm taking notes yes and I'm writing all these things down and all of a sudden I'm like wait he just said Ultra 2 they didn't there they didn't update anything except for the color I literally wrote down just a new color question mark like just a new color the only thing that happened here is that they changed the color of it and they did add you know a little bit the sneep sleep stuff or whatever but it's just a software update that's just coming in the yeah but that's coming in and it's not even like it gets the S10 but they're calling it The Ultra 2 it's it's you still it's the exact same model as last yeah so the ultra 2 is going to have a lower system on process system imp package or whatever they call that thing than than the series watch I just think it's it's weird and this is not the only time they did it we'll get to it with some of the other things but I just feel like what what a weird way to talk about it because they clearly wanted people to think that this was new stuff yeah yeah because they definitely talked about it in a way that would make you think that there's something new going on here and a color does not qualify right is new and it doesn't matter how many millones Loops they throw at you they're just trying to confuse you for a minute to make you think something else is happening so I don't know I feel like I feel like all this watch stuff was just like it's like I don't know they're playing fast and loose it's like one of those those guys in the park where they're trying to like steal your wallet but they get you distracted over here oh there a three card Monty three card Monty we got the ultra 2 we got the series 10 we got the series N hey sleep apne well because they just kept calling it the ultra it wasn't until later they're like and the ultra too like I'm the ultra to wait a minute yeah uh madala in the chat made a good point if you look at the Apple watch bands there are new fine woven colors so fine woven is not completely gone they're actually is fine woven that still lives in the Apple watch bands but uh no phone cases well you know but I you know I say that maybe I should look at for the the iPhone cases Jason do you think they snuck them in here I don't know but while you're doing that I we did fail to mention the best thing about the ultra the most important thing that they changed is you can now get an AES version and you could probably pay like $14,000 for a watch face that it says air MZ or something yeah no thanks oh you can get so you can get these cases right now oh I needed to buy these because these usually arrive before before the uh phones and then you can do little comparisons before the case listen listen live Watchers podcasting with Stephen this is exactly how it is every time we edit this out usually but Stephen is like a squirrel with an apple card well well listen when there's tough there's tough to get Jason tell me what color should I get here I'm trying to uh you got the uh the ultramarine I like the silicone case so this is silicone 16 Pro Max I'm browsing it here in the video while we record live but I will be buying it in the Apple Store app here on my phone doesn't it depend on which color phone you're going to get or is that not a consideration that matters I mean it yes it it should be a consideration but also I don't know I'm just going to get it so here's what I'm between I'm between the Denim and uh you know the stone gray is not bad either or Lake green there's really only one choice here you have to buy them allall and do a video about how you bought them all I listen uh more power to all the accessory dudes on YouTube doing them all I green is one of my favorite colors chat if you're listening real quick tell me should I go with the lake Green Oh yellow or fuchsia Steven Penny say no I saw that Steve Penny I'm not doing yellow or fuchsia I I hear you I hear you but I'm not doing it Lake green stone gray or denim which do you think Lake green what do you think get the denim get the denim okay I mean okay then don't you said it was one of the options that's like yeah I should have said like which this has happened to me before when my wife's like which of these two things should I wear and I'm like how about that one she's like really why did you put it up in front of me then sometimes you need someone to like definitively say a color this way you know that's not the one you want I feel like I very definitively set a color too all right I'll tell I'll tell you what I'm going to do I'm going to get I'm going to get the the lake green because green is one of my favorite colors and I'm going to get one other color uh Steve Steve's trolling me he says if you must be boring denim okay I hear you gotam taper he says Stone gray stone gray color okay what did do you are you going to go case the the other thing I'm worried about is this camera control button with cases I'm not sure how that's going to go I mean they explained it there's like a sapphire crystal in there and all this stuff yeah yeah on on Apple's cases I'm curious with third party cases how that's going to roll because no third now you're just buying Apple cases right yeah I'm just buying appli how many cases are you buying okay good see ultramarine see see the the chat is also torn on this I'm gonna go caseless for the win yeah I know well caseless do you go caseless I forget you're casel I do the only time I use I so I I have a nomad leather case that I've really liked for a long time it's just a little bit on the heavy side and that's my my preferred case I don't know where it is so I haven't been using it for a while so I just have been going caseless but my screen is looking a little bit rough which I understand you wouldn't think that having a case in the back of the phone would protect the screen it definitely seems to make a difference so I have been throwing this this nasty fine woven thing on there every every so often when I have to mostly it's if I'm going to be like at a soccer game and I'm going to have it out taking photos and stuff this is a little easier to GP grip it with well I appreciate you in the chat uh participating I bought the lake green and the stone gray I did those too because I think it's thank you I think it's going to match with uh my iPhone 16 Pro Max color Choice which we'll get to in a second uh that's I mean so Ultra 2 that's pretty much it if you want to get it in Black you can get in black $799 and uh pre-order that's it now airpods we do have new airpods and these are legitimately new not just new in name only airpods 4 which now come in two two models which is interesting Apple said that they have a new acoustic design what whatever that means so a new acoustic design and a H2 chip so it is powered by the more modern modern chip unlike some other airpods we're going to talk about in a second and you can now get them in two models no active noise cancellation or with so it's this weird Choice it seems like the same design like the actual airpods are the same shape and everything about the exterior seems to be the same but you can get them with or without active noise cancellation which is a interesting choice I guess I mean this is kind of what the rumors were right like there was going to be airpods and then there's going to be airpods that don't have the silicone tips that have active noise cancellation I think it kind of makes sense um because these are they they needed to still keep an inexpensive model right and then they are trying to offer something what it really feels like is they are trying to get people to buy the middle one right that's sort of like pricing philosophy 101 and I mean because they said that the airpods pro are the most popular headphones in the world and they're the ones that they sell the most of which that's not what is that what you would have expected that is not what I would have expected I think I would have because the amount of times it go on sale on Amazon for like $180 which is what these cost with active noise cancellation yeah and like just going around New York City a couple months ago I did see airpods Pro everywhere more than other models so yeah and maybe it's because I have like kids that there's no way I'd give them airpods Pro but all their friends have like the long dangly ones right and they don't fit in their ears anyway and they look like little Teletubbies or something but I think I think this makes a lot of sense I think that they're trying to create a slightly lower price point that will just like people who think oh I need to have the noise cancellation now you have two two options and I have to think that these have a are much less expensive for Apple to to make than the airpods Pro and so they're going to capitalize on that so I I think it's good I didn't I have a pair of I guess their airpods 3 which seem to be basically the same same form factor with the exception of whatever you're redesigned acoustical I mean they're headphones of course they're acoustically designed right isn't that like the whole like that's literally the definition of headphones well it seems like they they put a different driver in there because they focused on that during the event so maybe it'll be improved sound over the three I'll test it uh to see but $130 which is really really good for airpods 130 bucks for airpods 4 $180 for airpods 4 with active noise cancellation and I'm curious with a non-sealing airpod meaning there's no silicone tip to kind of isolate your ear from The Sound how that a and c will actually work like how good it does compared to airpods Pro so yeah I'm curious well there's a okay so here's the thing about this because I've heard a lot of people talk about like you can't have active noise cancelling in headphones if you don't have a seal which I don't understand because active noise cancellation is literally just the headphone are listening to The Sounds coming in and it's creating like negative sound waves you don't have to have a seal for that in fact there are Apple Store I think the Stanford store for a long time had active noise cancelling in the store because it was so loud because of all like the it had the full glass roof and it had the stone Sid and so you'd go into that store and it' be so loud and so they literally have speakers and microphones through that entire store that dead in the sound and if they can do that in an open space where you don't even have it in your ear I don't know why it would be complicated for them to actually do that in in headphones so they won't work as just like earplugs right like they're not going to just like you can't just put them in and shut the world out but yeah I don't doesn't seem that complicated to me so yeah so you can get yeah makes sense it's just a technology you can do it one question again from adala airpods 2 seemingly gone you know up to this point you could if you wanted to get that older style airpods the the longer stems uh they were I still I think still sold directly from Apple but now it's just the new airpods airpods 4 airpods Pro and airpods Max so that's all you can get at least directly from Apple airpods Pro no Hardware updates just to be clear during the event there was a whole section on the airpods pro to talk about some of the software features that will be launching specifically uh for like hearing aid hearing test and um I forget what the third one was but basically those three hearing hearing hearing protection hearing protection exactly so those are three featur coming to airpods Pro 2 the ones you currently have like no no additional anything needed um so it's just the same there's nothing new there airpods Pro same deal uh but let's get to what's really new Jason the the most the most new airpods Max a lot of people were upset about this on social media during the event they should be because because again they started talking about like this like they had updated a product they literally changed the color and the port the color and the port but here's what's so egregious here here's my biggest issues with this $50 that's that's what they didn't change the price which I do think is a little you know a Sonos Ace headphones are out there $450 so they're already undercutting by $100 plus you have the Sony XM 5S often times on sale for 300 something I don't think that 550 is sustainable especially when there's no updates and not just like no updates like the USBC Port that's welcome as charging this is the biggest Omission I think on the airpods Maxs they are still using the H1 chip which is the older style smart chip in the airpods and what that means is you just don't get some of the more recent noise cancelling features namely conversation awareness so they showed it off during the event where you like walk up to somebody you got music playing if you start talking or someone start talking to you it lowers the volume of the music automatically airpods Max their $550 headphones can't do that because they don't have the H2 chip so on this comparison with the airpods 4 airpods Pro 2 from last year and airpods Max airpods Max is just missing some of these features also the hearing a test and hearing features doesn't get any of that this case unchanged of doesn't have the dust sweat and water resistance of airpods pro like it's it's really kind of like adaptive audio also missing that because it doesn't have the H2 chip voice isolation which is a powerful feature especially if you're calling like using them to call other people I just don't understand Jason why why did they do this was a theme here like it was just like this to me feels like you don't actually care about this product because all you did is update it to USBC and that doesn't feel like the type of thing that's going to motivate someone who wouldn't buy one before to buy one now right like I don't didn't they do that the homepod where like the homepod now has a removable cable like if that was the only thing they had changed no one would care right you wouldn't buy it just because you're like oh now the plug is different they need and there's colors that are different like first of all yeah I had a white pair the only color anyone should buy is black because every other color is just going to be a disgusting mess like I've seen I've seen blue ones I've seen blue ones that look okay the older ones I'm just saying I don't know how I feel about the Starlight color maybe but now again that's basically what my white ones looked like when I got rid of them was that color that's what they look like the white ones they looked Starlight so what's going to happen to the Starlight no it's not good that's not good I just don't like when it comes to recommend like who who should this be a recommendation for I can't think of anyone really like even with USBC even if you're all in on the Apple ecosystem I just don't think that the price is cmeasured like if you just love over theee headphones maybe you find airpods Pro uncomfortable for whatever reason I even then I feel like airpods Pro 2 get some custom tips there's some you can get from comply like that's actually the ones I have they they're like the um earplug style uh tips which is a like this little foam things and uh that's actually the color they come in it's not like they were gray and they turn that disgusting green color that's the color they come with we have to put a disclaimer on this podcast no no I know um but I use those tips because these stay in better to my ear so like you can get third party tips for airpods pro and like $550 if you can get them on sale the new ones with USBC for like 350 maybe which there were some big sales on airpods Max before the event in the last couple weeks but even then I don't know would you would you recommend these for anybody no now maybe there's there's one scenario and actually I just thought about this because kid 15c asked if there's any difference between the airpods Pro 2 Lightning case and the USBC case the answer is yes but we still don't know what it is except for that the ones with the lightning case work with their with the Vision Pro and the ones that don't have the USBC I may have said that wrong but the ones with the USBC case work differently with the Vision Pro we don't know why like did they ever tell us what the difference was like the the airpods are the same except for the cases different so maybe the airpods max with USBC will have some special features you can use with can you just imagine sticking a Vision Pro on and then sticking air PS Max on your head people are doing it people are posting pictures and videos of doing it I tried you should not do that you should not do that I tried it once very uncomfortable like it's just not comfortable it pushes and like apple Vision Pro is already putting pressure on your head like in multiple places and then to have the airpods max which are heavy like that's one of the feel like your head's going to pop well it's just so much pressure which was one of the things people were hoping that maybe they would redesign the airpods max to have a light or a you know just lighter weight in general and the titanium rods or stainless steel rods in the thing like it can just not it's not comfortable so anyway yeah airpods Max I don't know I I I will definitively say I did not buy the updated airpods Max I yeah so you can rest easy Jason that did that did I feel like I feel like we're making progress and I'm glad to hear this okay good very good now if they'd put an llm in them I guarantee you you would have bought them for sure no no uh although I I think I am reging an I will review soon an AI powered Grill I'm just going to leave it at that leave it at that let's go let's move on to iPhone 16 so many questions iPhone 16 we have a new iPhone iPhone 16 this is just a regular 16 really honestly pretty significant upgrades I think it gets the action button instead of the mute switch so the action button from the pros last year now comes to the iPhone 15 or 16 excuse me we have the new a camera control button which is a capacitive and haptic button that's under the sleep button we covered this in our rumor last week and it's exactly what came out and a new a18 chip for the iPhone 16 means it gets Apple intelligence every iPhone that you buy new from here on out I guess except the iPhone SE will have apple intelligence because of the the new chips and Jason they changed the ink cartridge look at these colors they actually have colors this year they do there's this theme of like just pouring like they did at the Apple watch Ultra 2 you can now get it with color obsidian color jet black or whatever the heck they called it I don't even know but yeah there's some colors there I mean compared to the this is this is way better than last year whatever thing they did for the iPhones I still have one that looks like you just like yeah you can't even say You Dropped a drop of Dy because I've seen what happens with a drop of dye this is like not even like a whisper of color so yeah they did I remember I my wife actually upgraded to the iPhone 15 last year and I got her the blue color quote unquote and one of still my most viewed tweets ever was I said my wife opened her iPhone and she said is this color Hospital white she said Hospital white here you go this is the one your wife has right here is that the blue wait hold on this is the blue no one no one watching this believes me right now but this is the blue one that that's the bluest blue you've ever seen look at that H look at that here we go compared to the iPad Air case which I think is denim by the way I don't remember if that's what they call this but what one of these things is blue and one of them is very much not blue it is most assuredly Hospital white that is the most accurate Hospital white anyway I agree also big updates to the camera so actually new cameras across the line every camera got upgraded uh some more than others but with the iPhone 16 has two lenses now in the different uh format so you have the horizontal lenses l or I guess aligned vertically if you're holding the phone vertically for spatial video and spatial photos so you can capture spatial video spatial photos that's great and also the main camera lens it's 48 megapix like it was last year but now it has the optimized 2x Zoom which has a completely different image pipeline they said during the event so if you have an iPhone 16 and you do want to zoom in tapping that 2x is actually meaningful it is better than pinching and zooming from the 1X so you want to tap the 2X and the ultrawide camera has Auto Focus now on the iPhone 16 so I mean pretty good updates to the camera not bad yeah I mean I think that's a it's pretty clear from this entire presentation that Apple the fact that they put a camera control apparently that's the name of this button listen they're just basically saying what everyone like these things are just cameras for most people most of the time like the thing the thing my children do most of the time on their phones are besides texting but they don't even I think proportion of usage like have you ever received a text message from a teenager it's usually like less than four characters very short but they'll take photos all day long and share them with each other and so I think that apple is leaning all the way into this thing here so yeah and then they're calling the new main lens a fusion camera and they're calling it this on the pro as well which you know okay I get you know that's interesting seems like a rebranding I mean it's they had the 48 megapixel on the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro last year so something about the image pipeline well I would love to get like Sebastian DWI and Austin man on here to talk in depth about the cameras and video so maybe that can be a special episode sometime soon we'll see but yeah yeah that's the iPhone 16 I think it's a solid upgrade I think Apple intelligence of course is another big one if someone's on the non-pro upgrade cycle and you have a 13 14 Apple intelligence is a big reason the camera updates are a big reason and uh you know get the action button and now a whole new swath of people can watch my shortcut videos on how to program the action button to do fun things and the camera has its own button so now you Jason who you were using your action button as a camera button you can actually use it for something else yeah I got I got decisions to make it's not just deciding what to buy it's deciding what to do with this extra button that I just got back I do there was one other thing I thought was very funny which was when I who was it that was introducing it who stood up and said uh we jumped two generations ahead because they went from the a16 bionic to the A8 as if there was never an a as if there was never an A7 it's just you just didn't put it in that camera or that phone like I thought that was pretty funny anything that happened last year uh it's it's doesn't exist anymore you know what I mean like every everything's new everything's new you don't feel like you don't feel like they're gaslighting us a little bit maybe I mean I'll be that's fine it's fine what I will say when when I when I the part that I did feel not not gaslighted when Craig Craig fedi popped out to talk about which I didn't expect that did not expect that at all he is not typically in the iPhone events in the fall like they they save him uh for the WWDC that's his big show but he came out basically did an entire recap about Apple intelligence I mean everything from private Cloud compute to genoi and image uh generation and all the things Apple intelligence he basically did the whole thing over again namely and a lot of people on social media said this people don't watch W DC you know there's a lot of people that don't watch the developers conference they so they would have never heard about Apple intelligence whereas you know if they watch this event now they understand so it wasn't for us who might have seen dubdub and now you know all summer talking about Apple intelligence uh it was again new for some people but there is a new feature that Craig feder announced during the segment which is called visual intelligence which is % coming after Google lens and the like and even chat GPT although it basically integrates with chat GPT that basically the uh C the camera control button will can now be like a oneclick to trigger visual intelligence not just cameras and I think if you tap and hold on it and you can they showed people like you can scan a concert poster and it will add it to your calendar yeah add it to your calendar you can point it at your homework and I guess it'll do it for you but uh all the like very much of Google lensy type features will be on the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro and that side button like that seems pretty cool oh here was the uh he had they identified a dog that was the other visual intelligence thing of course and they did the the concert poster so here's the dog you do the visual intelligence you press the button and then you get the little popup and apple intelligence tells you what that is and then also the uh there was a poster that he scanned I I I mean I like seeing Craig Figi but he he really talked for a long time and I was trying to get to the poster thing so anyway yeah the first one was they also he like took he did it with a restaurant and it like pulled up the like Yelp review or something which I did think was interesting because you just said this is coming for like Google lens and and I do think there's a certain degree of like let's just poke them by featuring wasn't it like a Yelp or whatever it's like yeah right here you know they're suing Google that this was the restaurant lookup thing right here which yeah you got Open Table you get the maps result so but I mean it's pretty cool and this is a feature that I would have thought been reserved for like the Pro Models but iPhone 16 gets it I mean that's that's pretty slick yeah people you're going to this is one of the things that you're going to see other people do and will encourage people to upgrade like once the iPhone 16 gets out there which Apple intelligence Craig fedi says is coming next month so it seems like 18.1 and all the Apple intelligence we have to wait till next month which means iPhone 16's shipped with 18.0 but once this is like out and people are like holding up their phone and pointing it at restaurants pointing it at menus pointing it at their homework other people will see that and they'll be like I think I want that I think I want to upgrade so yeah I think that'll trigger a cycle $799 for iPhone 16 $88.99 for the plus version Oh and the biggest feature Jason they hid this in the Bento Box did you see the big feature Jason of the iPhone I know what you're gonna say the big feature Jason huge massive feature Wi-Fi 7 yeah this is the this is the USBC on the airpods airpods max of the iPhone right like this is the this is the thing of the thing of the thing yeah Wi-Fi 7 uh I will of course be testing it in-depth with my Wi-Fi 7 router and see uh see what happens now a good question see in the chat knows Wi-Fi 7 now someone was asking why should you consider Sean hudgin is saying why should someone get the pro this year with all the updates that came to the iPhone 16 which is a great great segue thank you for that iPhone 16 Pro we also got some updates still titanium larger so that was one of the rumors that came out that did turn out to be true we have larger size displays let me go to the comparison I have the 16 Pro Max here in a comparison window with the 15 Pro Max and we've gone from 6 7 in to 6.9 in so larger display also a larger body size it is physically larger not that much larger if you go down to like the actual um size like the width the iPhone 15 Pro Max was 3.02 in wide the 16 Pro Max is 3.06 so a little wider but taller the 15 Pro Max was 6.29 in the 16 Pro Max is 6.42 so it's a taller device very slightly large wider but and smaller bezels all of that together gives you a larger display a 2 in increase in display that's gonna be a big phone Jason it's gonna be a big phone yeah I don't think I think that I was right last week I think I was right that you're gonna STI if all things are the same there's why the it's too much Stephen that's that is too much iPhone we've reached too much iPhone you're dangerously close to iPod iPad Mini range at this point it's it is very close which like you were saying feature parody the the iPhone 16 Pro also now gets the tetr prism 5x telephoto lens so feature-wise from the pro to the pro Max totally even now same camera system same 5x lens so if someone were to choose you can go 16 Pro and still have the same camera so no I which I think is the smart smart thing to do there unless really I mean it's not small the thing is still 6 point whatever three in 6.3 in it's still pretty big like yeah that's fair how many inches is how many how many inches is this this is original iPhone Right Here original iPhone right here oh 3.5 Ines 3.5 so are we we're almost double we've almost dou good in my hand actually I have no idea how I ever typed on this were you ever a mini user did you ever get the 12 or 13 this is the only mini I ever had right here this Ione listen the iPhone 4 I'm down like the iPhone 4 I really like that size and the design but anyway I know Jason's going to pull it I got an iPhone 4 there you go there it is it's in a drawer behind me I don't want to get it okay unplug so same camera system you got the 5x camera bigger screen size smaller bezels which looks nice you know that's cool we also have looks like polished titanium sides looks the sides now are a little shinier and we have a new color Jason that brownish color that we were talking about that is the color it is Desert brand desert titanium the brand color it's not brand okay wrong so we could talk about what this because pre-orders are not till Friday iPhone 16 and 16 Pro pre-orders are this Friday September 13th comes out September 20th what color do you think you're gonna go with Jason that's the question it's a tough tough decision tough decision I'm looking at him right now uhhuh yes and I feel like the only one that that I like is the natural titanium that's the only one you know you're not going to go the desert you're not going to do desert I'm 100% not going to go a desert like you're like the desert I looks kind super do not like the desert no oh really I strong strong feelings who who wants a Apple iPhone in that car I don't know I don't understand I just I'm not trendy I'm not fashionable and I'm not cool and that's fine I'll stick with my natural titanium so when you look at it like on this page it looks just like gold rose gold yeah I don't know about rose gold I don't know if it has a rose color to it I mean it looks but the gold iPhone was like a white back with a gold uh uh rail wasn't it for one year there were there were years where the back was gold the the natur but now the natural titanium though I don't know it feels a little uh I don't know a little not boring but compared to the desert I don't know that desert's popping to me they said the white titanium is now brighter I heard jaak talk about that and you also have the black titanium still but and the black is fine too whatever I mean I'm GNA go with that well anyway the the bigger update to the iPhone 16 lineup I Feel Again is the cameras you have the camera control button are we just going to call it camera control or do we say button I don't know what I guess it's just the camera control because that's the entire interface but if you're referring to the part you press with your finger it's it's definitely a button right like it is an actual physical and haptic button I think no I don't think it's a no it's just haptic it doesn't I think it has haptic feedback to let you know that you actually touched it but it's not it doesn't actually depress so Nei Patel was saying in his little Hands-On time he says the physical button itself is ultra sensitive BL what did he say he did say something um does it well looking at this he say it depresses into the case ever so slightly with an additional haptic feedback okay so okay so that I was wrong there it actually does move so it's not a physical button yeah I mean if it's not then Nei is lying to us but he doesn't usually do that so I think he's no no he knows so okay so that's interesting which would make more sense for the what they said too and what we talked about was with that button you'll be able to half press to focus and then uh all the way to actually take a picture but they also said that's not coming until later this year I I guess it's a software thing that they have to do so if you go on the iPhone 16 Pro page says later this year camera control will introduce a two-stage shutter lets you automatically lock focus and exposure with a light press so you can reframe your shot without losing focus on your subject so it is going to do that notably the iPhone 16 does not have this feature listed on that page like it doesn't say that you'll be able to do the two-stage shutter so I it's interesting if it's just the pro I don't know why but yeah that feels like a very arbitrary let's just find something to differentiate between these two things yeah that's that's interesting so so uh anyway I'm excited for the that and also the the video features back to the question who should get a 16 Pro instead of a 16 if you shoot a lot of video with your iPhone I think this year's iPhone 16 Pro is going to be pretty wild 4K at 120 frames per second in Dolby Vision they had a bunch of scenes of uh shooting the weekend a weekend music video and I mean it looks amazing being able to do slow-mo with this High frame rate Dolby vision and they even said and this part I'm going to have to I'm going to test a lot because they said you can record 4K 120 prores video to an external SSD over that USBC and I know just from testing 60 frames per second on the 15 Pro Max there were many ssds that fell short like you try to record for more than 30 seconds and the transfer speed just can't keep up 60 frames per second prores was too much data to move continuously so 120 frames per second 4K prores video I am very curious what if any of the ssds I have now will actually be able to sustain that or if there will be a new wave of accessories which I'm down for of course uh that will actually enable that kind of uh recording so we'll see yeah you point you also pointed out one of the most fun overlays on this page you want to you want to say it I just popped up oh yeah it's just a nerd out on pro video I love that I love that they just stuck that little in there so ner pro video like I don't think I've ever seen an that's just it feels very like like somebody put that there it was sort of like if you're writing an article and you're not sure about your headline so you just put like you know something random in there they never changed it like it's just like yeah we nerd out on video nerd out on pro video I'm down for that and in addition to the video update and the 48 megapixel main camera which you do get uh they have that Fusion camera that they talked about and the ultrawide camera on the pro phones only gets 48 megap so we actually have a second camera now that has 48 megapixel on the iPhone still no 48 megapixel selfie camera which the pixel 9 Pro head maybe that'll come next year but oh and autofocus on the ultra wide lens as well which would make for a really cool macro photography I mean macro photography with 48 megapixels you can really get in there I mean that'd be pretty cool so no that is cool and I think that the ultra wide camera is probably more used than the telephoto so like it's great that that's the one that they've updated like that because I think the telephoto is still just 12 megapixel yes it is the telephoto is still 12 megapixel and the last couple features audio Greg jazak said they have four microphones in the 16 Pro studio quality microphones and there's a new feature that you'll be able to capture spatial audio from your iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max again this is a pro feature only again goes to who should get this video creators you can then go into a new feature called audio mix which will be built into the phone and you can actually change the style of the audio so if you were actually filming a scene say of a movie and you're recording someone and you have two people in frame like I'm showing here and there might be background noise or people talking off camera you can actually choose give me inframe audio meaning just focus on the people in the frame frame that I've shot Studio audio which will basically use like voice isolation and other features to really enhance the quality of the people on camera their microphones and it sounds great cuts out all background noise or cinematic where we'll actually create a spatial audio mix and you can hear voices and audio from outside the frame like if a a waiter or waitress walks up and says something you'll kind of hear that separately than the subjects on camera crazy to do this directly on the phone very cool it looks like yep so yeah camera video creators that's who should get the pro and the 5x the 5x lens I like the 5x lens so yeah I agree all right so no fine woven we got the clear and silicone cases that was the iPhone 16 Pro and again that was it so Jason what did you buy I haven't bought anything at this point I mean I know that's not very exciting I don't need airpods I listen Stephen the only thing I have more of than Apple pencils laying around are airpods I'm not even joking that sounds like the first word world of first world problems I'm just being CED with you I just I I have two pairs of airpods pro and everyone in my house has airpods and so it's like certain different various different versions of them so I don't need airpods I'll definitely I'm hoping to review the airpods 4 with the noise cancellation because I would be curious how they stack up against the airpod pro that's great but there's there's no difference to airpod Pro at this point except for from software perspective that's that that's great um I I'm there the the 16 Pro is the phone that I'll be looking at so but also the watch like the series 10 is cool and if Apple wants to send me one to review I'll wear it for a couple weeks I'm happy to like do that please s a titanium polish because I'm not cool with Al I don't like aluminum I don't want people to know that I'm wearing aluminum because it's so obvious the aluminum one I just I don't love it from a perspective of like what it looks like and so so but anyway i' I'd be happy to or or or one of those jet black Ultra twos the jet black polish ones oh the ultra TW Ultra two it's pretty sick looking with the orange button but yeah I I don't I'm not buying a watch and I'm not buying airpods at this point so but the phone yeah phone's good what about you well I ordered the airpods 4 with noise cancelling because like you said I do want to test them see how they stack up whether or not I'll keep them remains to be seen I did like having airpods 3 when I had those just to not have an inar headphone sometimes just to kind of feel like they're just comfortable and also if you're going to do something like living in Florida if you're going to go outside basically and sweat a bunch sometimes I preferred the airpods 3 hard Style no in or anything so I might keep them uh just for you know those kinds of activities so I ordered those and I did order an Apple Watch series 10 in natural polished titanium and whether or not I'll switch remains to be seen I mean I love my Apple watch Ultra I love the battery life but I do kind of Miss sometimes just the more Sleek design and because the display is the same size as the ultra actually slightly larger according to Apple I would not be sacrificing on display if battery life is good and uh I don't know that millanes Loop looks pretty good too I think I don't know maybe I'll maybe I'll go series 10 for the next year and give my ultra 2 to a a suspecting child of mine that will probably really love it I'd give it to my wife but she doesn't want to wear the ultra 2 it's it's too bulky so that's what I got and we'll see and I got them both on launch day so they they'll be coming September 20th and yeah we'll see I will be getting the 16 Pro Max though color to be determined we'll have see how much how much storage are you going to get I think I'm G to go one terabyte go the way because here's the thing if I go to my iPhone 15 Pro Max right now open the camera go to video and let's say I want to shoot prores uh the time I have left is 3 minutes I can record 3 minutes of pro video on my 15 Pro Max right now and I I do a lot of it to an external drive but with 4K 120 there might be times where I want to just record to the internal storage and not think about it so I might do that that's G to be you're you're looking at a MacBook Air right there listen more more so I'll be I'll
