Defense because I'm sure we'll talk defensive line tomorrow as a part of our discussion with tandre sweat quandre Diggs was made official by the team this morning so now you have the safety pairing that you come into this training camp with or as you continue on through this training camp that you come into this first game week with whether quandre Diggs will be ready for game action on Saturday remains to be seen I'm sure Brian Callahan will be asked I'm sure quandre Diggs will be made available if not tomorrow then on Thursday in some form or fashion that'll be among the questions that's a that's asked do you care to play in the preseason are you ready to play in the preseason what what where are you right now as you get ready to ramp things up for training camp and I'm sure as most professional athletes have done or do has continued to train throughout the course of his pending free agency process because it sounds like this has been in the works for about two and a half weeks this quandre Diggs deal uh and finally came to fruition on Sunday evening which is about the timeline since they signed Jamal Adams right yep so so Jamal Adams who famously played in the Seattle Seahawks defense last year and for the past couple of Seasons with quandre Diggs was asked about quandre Diggs what was this last week when he was made available prior to him missing the last two practices due to rest yeah we talk every day man every day um you know obviously you know I'm the type and he he knows me we've known each other for so long uh since we were kids and um I'm not going to you know push him to come here obviously I would love for to be here um but you know you know he he he has to figure out his process you know on his own and he will eventually uh I know there's so many teams looking at him and hopefully we get him well and they did they got him narrator they got [Laughter] him so now quandre digs into the mix and we read you that Mike hearnen tweet yesterday the idea that quandre Diggs or at least in Mike's estimation that quandre Diggs immediately becomes the best safety on the team ammani hooker we hold him in I would say relatively high regard around here based on what he's been able to do and I know that the availability since he's gotten the contract is something that he's actively had to work through and I think done so uh last year with success he's a versatile player so it's good to have a versatile piece as quandre Di's running mate but do we think do we agree with that assessment that quandre Diggs immediately becomes the best safety on the team uh to hear Mike hearnen tell it that is interesting I mean h how much does he have left at 31 I mean assum plenty based on Tony Jefferson getting jobs and there's you know there's markets for safety well into their 30s in fact defensive backs that no longer play Corner often transition to safety late in their career just to kind of as a means of sustaining so you know theoretically he's on a one-year deal certainly he's got one year left in him well according to the depth chart which I know we're going to talk about a little bit later on with more takeaways but spicy depth chart though uh yes Amman hooker and Jamal Adams are the two starting safeties on the first unofficial depth chart yeah but Diggs isn't on the dep put out by the Titans no he's not but I thought that was interesting that Elijah molden is a backup even without Diggs on the depth chart sure now I'm curious to see when Adams practices again because you know whatever the reason rest is an acceptable reason for player who had injury I'm not going to you know bury him if the goal is to get him ready for regular season play if there's rest required in the training camp process you heard Keith Bullock talk about it these guys know their bodies certainly Jamal Adams they would have been well aware of everything that he's been through and he cleared a physical here so at whatever point he returns to the lineup would be curious it's just how are they deployed and who's going to play the higher percentage of snaps CU if you ask me who's going to play the higher percentage of snaps between molden and Adams molden molden is a more versatile piece than Adams your your point yesterday about getting too caught up in the word starter yeah no that's what this would be right that is what this is this is an unofficial depth chart like I I don't know how much Jamal Adams is going to be playing safety like legitimately playing safety is he a starting linebacker he starting safety in the safety backer was the term that we came up with but there's SB is not on the depth chart you don't have the option to put that in there so yeah you take it for what it's worth and that is a put star on the depth chart for Tennessee I guess you could do whatever you want I mean they have nickel on there right like they have you know CB CB and CB and that's Roger mccre yeah so you can do what you want with your depth chart but I don't know we we don't know how they're going to use Jamal Adams but I we're in agreement that we would expect molden if he's you know available just based on if they're both available for the same amount of time I would expect Elijah molden to play more snaps in this defense because I would assume they're going to play a fair amount of three safety looks that that can be something that comes from Baltimore right just because they may be a more aggressive pressure defense than last year's Baltimore Ravens doesn't mean they can't use some of these similar looks and and systems to disguise or disrupt or or whatever I mean if even if it's part of your press pressure packages you have to have guys who can play around the line of scrimmage and for a team that lacks Edge Rush Talent outside of Herold Landry right now Jamal Adams who has had success getting to the quarterback in his past though it is not a recent past and Elijah molden who in his rookie year before the groin injury started affecting him I thought was a pretty effective nickel player because he wasn't afraid to put his nose in it right the same way that mccu does now it's just that molden got derailed uh and mccre was then more than sufficient to take over that spot the sobros network on the F&M Bank chat says they don't have dime linebacker and flat defender on the death chart which is kind of where we're all assigning Jamal Adams at this point without having seen any sample size of what they're going to do with him agreed so uh we'd expect to hear from quandre Diggs at some point in the next two days looking forward to that does it change how you feel about the Titans defense or I guess how do we feel about the Titans defense right now just a general you know taking of temp on how many different starters have they added cuz sweat's a starter on this depth chart we'll we'll do more depth chart talk later on in the show specific to the rookies and a couple of primary takeaways that at least I noticed sweat new starter you're talking about I mean there's going to be a new starter on the edge now who that ends up being whether they're a new player whether it's a player to be named yet yet to be acquired or you know if Shane Ray or Rashad Weaver kind of establishes themselves that way don't think it's going to be Herold anyway so sweat Diggs let's count Adams as a starter you're talking about Murray and Sebastian Joseph day who should be considered a starter that's at least am I leaving anybody out that's at Le oh lerus sne and shinob aozi we're talking about seven starters that this this team has added now over the course I forget about those two because they don't practice very much or at least not available for aier lately seven starters on the defensive side of the ball how do we feel because last this is a substantially different unit Beyond Jeff and Herold than the team that finished about middle of the pack and really well in red zone defense and all the other things that Mike Vel and Shane Bowen's last defensive unit was able to put together I don't know I don't know how I feel about them relative to last year's defense but I don't don't feel as bad as I should given that the edge group looks the way that it that it does I I don't know why I'm cautiously optimistic about the Titans defense I don't think two days of sweat is enough to do that to me it feels like the best case scenario with the group that you see now understanding they could add an edge rusher is tandre sweat continues to get in shape and get better and stay healthy throughout camp and he and Jeffrey Simmons turned into what could be a dominant interior tandem in the pass rush and in the end you're asking your Edge rushers to play cleanup a lot of times right Rashad Weaver running into sacks coming off the edge not because he's creating the pressure but because the pressure's been created from the interior of the pocket that's mostly what Weaver and I don't want to take anything away from because you have to clean it up but that's mostly what Weaver's 2022 was five and a half se but that's best case scenario to me with this current crop of players on the defense uh when you look at this depth chart that that that's where the upfront dominance can come from it would be sweat and Jeff cre opportunities for the guys on the edge so tandre sweat uh will be on the show tomorrow we'll look forward to speaking with him it'll be around what have they been typically about 10:40 10:45 right after practice gets done so you can check right probably the most improved unit on the roster digs better than yeah I would say Diggs is better than byed right now even though they're right around the same age The Edge rushing unit from this year to last year better worse push right worse because of no Deno arry well and and also Arden and Arden out for six games uh reportedly so where do you put this defense you expect it to be better than last seasons like is that a fa where do I expect them to be better do you expect them to be a better defensive unit than last season no if we came away if we came away after the end of the season saying yeah they're right about the middle of the pack maybe they're different in a couple of different yeah you know maybe they're not the best red zone defense this year maybe they're slightly worse or maybe they're significantly worse I have no idea maybe they're not allowing teams to get to the red zone as often yeah as last year's defense did because it felt like perpetually exposive explosive plays were putting teams in position to score on the Titans and the Titans then would have to defend the Red Zone more often than your average team um I they are definitely definitively a better secondary and that has helped kind of talk me off the ledge of what this Edge Rush group is and also sweat and Jeff working together and seeing it in pads you know understanding the vision there more more clearly I don't know that that's better than Jeff and Deno though because Jeff and Deno ay were a really really effective unit I feel better about Harold at the start of this year than I did last year because Harold Landry finished the the stretch great double digit sacks last year and and coming off that ACL we knew it was is going to be a bit of a slow play so can I say push is that is that unfair can I push yeah until they prove it that's not that's not unfair okay cuz I shouldn't I shouldn't feel as cautiously optimistic about them as I do but I kind of am and I don't know why coming have you paid attention to much of his uh Chargers press conferences oh yeah he's been I mean he's been just he's been Jim Harbaugh he has been very much authentically Jim Harbaugh since taking this job sure but I always felt like Michigan Jim Harbaugh was constantly under duress at press conferences not maybe showing duress but constantly being questioned about different things sure job status you know recruiting violations all these kind of things Conor stallions which by the way we'll get to here in a second it's hilarious to me that Conor stallions already has a Netflix special like they got to him so fast he's got legal fees to pay I'm sure but Jim Harbaugh has been holding court it's Harbaugh land out there in LA former Chargers quarterback they're eating it up everything he says is is quotable everything he does is social media postable right Jim and the Chargers it's a match made in heaven except for all of this pending Michigan stuff that's still hanging out there after the col Connor stallions thing and Jim Harbaugh is asked well hang on there needs to be more context here because it's not just all this Connor stallion stuff Michigan received a notice of allegations from the NCAA on Sunday yes and this includes a level two charge against Chiron Moore who is now the head coach who stepped in for Harbaugh during his suspensions after he allegedly deleted a thread of 52 text messages with former Wolverine's employee guess who Conor stallion Conor stallion that's what I mean that's what I mean by all this Conor stallion stuff yes all of it uh Chris Partridge the former linebacker coach that was fired last season for uh for deleting things uh off of off of Michigan computers and dard Robinson Michigan Legend dard Robinson the last athlete to be on the cover of an n AA video game before the new EA college football is uh also has a level one charge levied against him as does Connor stallions and of course uh Jim Harbaugh so this is all kind of coming back up as they are saying that Jim Harbaugh has not been cooperating with the investigation talking to nobody so can I hear from Jim Harbaugh who's asked about all of this at the podium was this yesterday yeah I do have a comment on that um Never Lie never cheat never steal I was raised with that lesson I have raised my family on that lesson I have preached that lesson to the teams that I've coached no one's perfect if you stumble you apologize and you make it right today I do not apologize I did not participate was is not aware nor complicit in those said allegations so for me it's back to work and attacking with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind unknown to mankind what who did who did that remind you of Jackson I just want to say from the bottom of my heart I'd like to take this chance to apologize second Bel to absolutely nobody the does what the want that's what that reminded me of that is such a great moment Conor McGregor before you know all the can I get the Reckless speculation sound please that's your convenience yeah thank you before all the HGH and steroids and terrible Roadhouse acting Conor McGregor was actually fun and and promotable and enjoyable and you know all the all you know beyond all the sideshow stuff that also makes Conor McGregor what Conor McGregor is that is very similar Vibes without his much cursing so Harbaugh is accused of not cooperating with the NCAA investigation by not providing emails and messages from a personal device due to a disagreement over the scope of the ncaa's request that is according to the athletic you remember when Tom Brady wouldn't give the NFL a cell phone during the flight gate like is that what is that what we're going to get ready to go through with Jim Harbaugh the Chargers this most interesting the Chargers have been in you know my entire lifetime by the way other than Philip Rivers trailing by six points down down with no uh timeouts from his own 25 5 yard line having to drive the length of a field to try and avoid yet another disastrous Chargers comeback only to throw a death pick this is the most interesting Chargers or the most interesting that the Chargers have been and I don't know how long and I just have to imagine that this is going to carry through the entire season I mean what what's Chiron Moore's deal is he is he going to be suspended for his many games as Harbaugh was is Michigan going to win without Chiron Moore the way that Michigan won with Chon more and without Jim Harbaugh last year what a mess and here's the thing Mich are they going to vacate this thing Michigan is under 3 years of NCAA probation at the moment sure for a separate case that had to do with contact with recruits during the covid Dead period and other recruiting infractions violations you remember when he took this uh this like 9-h hour visit to the Minnesota Vikings not this offseason but I think it was the last offseason or the prior offseason he had to know this stuff was coming again Reckless speculation had to even though he's denying it a Podium like if you're willing to get out that badly for any opportunity Minnesota wasn't any kind of Beacon of light as as far as Super Bowl contention is concerned certainly the Chargers are viable maybe but we'll see he had to know some something was coming for him at Michigan that he needed to get out fortunately for him he won a title before he did it uh Harbaugh could get up to the podium tomorrow which say yeah we cheated and nothing will happen to him right like he's good correct so something will happen to Michigan but nothing will happen to Jim Harbaugh didn't we see this happen in 2010 P Carroll refresh our memory Jackson P Carroll leaves for the Seahawks Reggie Bush's Heisman is taking away all these different infractions and essentially it put Lane kein in a bad spot real bad spot for Lane kein so Jim Harbaugh and Chiron Moore has done nothing but pledge undying loyalty to Jim Harbaugh so much so that he's sobbing in in the the last game the post game the last game that he coached for Harbaugh uh with I can't remember who the sideline reporter was was it the Ohio State game was it I thought it was a game before I thought it was the first game he coached when Harbaugh was suspended he had a couple of moments yes I remember his sobbing I think you went at him a little bit I think you might made your dumbest thing in sports or something like dropped an F bomb with the sideline reporter it was yeah I couldn't really believeit unhinged a little unhinged yes um yes playing the victim right so if Jim Harbaugh is going to reciprocate that loyalty to Chiron Moore then he's not going to say yeah we cheated of course no of course you got me jokes on you boys I got the title and Justin Herbert eat it uh the Athletics report concludes with this it says Michigan could face further penalties as an institution if the NCAA finds that the new allegations constitute a pattern of non-compliance the draft notice outlines charges the NCAA intends to pursue and provides an opportunity for the parties to negotiate a resolution a postseason ban is not off the table based on the allegations contained in the draft the First Source said but it is possible the case could be resolved with lesser penalties this is all reporting done by Austin Meek of the athletic all right can I ask the room a question because I'm surrounded by vs especially now that Reed just walked in back there I think Reed is also a graduate of the University of Tennessee I'm alone on an island is this a question uh of rhetoric nature no okay is it worth it what if if you're Michigan is the title worth it absolutely 100% yes yes it's always the answer is always now wait no doubt wait in my mind wait Joe pno just back it down okay well hang on what I'm saying this is the one that came to the microphone with yes 100% of the time it's always worth it they didn't win a title and that had nothing to that that is no back it down second we're talking about back it down competitive Advantage would you like to walk back your statement of yes 100% of the time it's always worth it okay this is your opportunity well we're talking about competitive Advantage here like was it worth it for Louisville basketball yes yeah yeah it was yeah it was yeah they got a bunch of strippers they got a bunch of strippers for recruits strippers yeah strippers that did other things for recruits that came to play basketball at Louisville and helped them win a championship they rightfully had many penalties not not Reckless speculation these that is all quantifiable factual that is correct uh all those things help them obtain recruits that helped them win a championship they were right they rightfully had many penalties levied against them and WIS vacated was it got tattoo was it worth it yes yes it was so for Michigan fans yes it will have been worth it now this is rare because this is a case of actual cheating like this isn't you know you know certain things to get good joking about $100 handshakes and Chick-fil-A bags or all these other things this is putting a man in sunglasses at night dressed in central Michigan gear on the sideline to steal Michigan State sign this is the most insanely elaborate cheating scheme that we have seen in modern football right like what even parallel like spy gate no there is no well no cuz spy gate didn't have the Spy gate manifest the way that stallions has the Michigan Manifesto the background on this dude sounds nuts and that's the other thing stallions loves Michigan right like all these people have thisy loyalty this Michigan man aura about them so this is going to be fascinating to see how it plays out I do think people see the phrase draft notice of allegations from the NCAA and say oh well who car NCAA is powerless now but this is different though this is not about pay for play right like the Supreme Court ain't backing you up here Michigan this is this is you had a plant on the sideline and also that plant was not just directly working against your your your next week opponent but had built the profile on so many other teams that you might play in the college football playoff did play in the college football playoff all these different things Tennessee they came after a Tennessee sign can we have the Reckless speculation Jackson it's not Reckless speculation it's fact that's right that the only reason Spencer Rattler had the game of his life against Tennessee in clemon God was this is a thing that has gone around a lot no I know I remember it in real time I remember calling you tin foil hat fools then mine's on but the whole point the NCAA is very much still the governing body of College athletics oh yeah no it still exists even though it feels as feudal as it ever has it is still the final word in any of these situations until such time as it's actually dismantled by government and the reason they've been so easy to dismiss when it comes to I mean any anytime we've seen the NCAA in the news with this type of story it's been about pay for play right and these college football programs have the backing of the law yeah when it comes to that this has nothing to do with pay forplay it's about cheating it's about putting somebody on a sideline he doesn't belong on and cheating so I can't wait to see what comes of this and Chiron Moore deleting texts with Conor stallions just what all this will end up meaning will it end up in a postseason ban I doubt it could it end up with winds being vacated I could easily see that but does it take away the title no it doesn't well I mean it could technically take away the title they did technically take away Louisville's title but the experience the the feeling the accomplishment people don't forget people don't forget that is correct I I will say though that it sounds like right now based on the reporting the early reporting that's out there that it doesn't seem like they're planning to vacate the title which would be a huge deal I mean no matter what you think of the experience the moment was it worth it all that the answer to it in almost every circumstance is the way that you should have phrased that not every circumstance but in almost every circumstance yeah you're right it is absolutely worth it and for Michigan their schedule I mean if they're having to do this thing with Chiron more the way that they did with Harbaugh last year where I mean he missed six games didn't he at different points throughout the course of their season oh he missed half the regular season it's it's insane including their most important game of the season against Ohio State I I just I guess you have you have to think about it because who is it worth it to right it's worth it to to the fan base to the fan base and to the primary actors involved at the time including the athletes involved at the time it is ultimately worth it but who has to pay for the consequence this is what my my whole issue is with it because while I would still you know I would take all of the Rick patino experience if it if he was the Indiana Coach and been winning a title at Indiana I would have taken Kelvin Samson I'm still pissed they fired Kelvin Samson it's the last time I've been that kind of relevant as a basketball program and it hurts me the RE repercussions on the athletes who come after you is so unfortunate so unfair the scholarship diminishments the the how often a lot of these programs get left in shambles what is Louisville basketball right now shambles shambles the definition of shambles that's what I'm saying and that is a PR that is a proud program in a state that cares deeply about basketball is is it still worth it to Louisville fans cuz I think I think there is is some feeling of especially Tennessee fans I mean God you you have not tasted that in so long and it is I mean there's probably no fan base more crazed for that Feeling Again than Tennessee in the world of college football after the fact though I don't know how far you have you get removed from that title where it ceases to become worth it because I would I would argue with you in the immediate yes absolutely worth it but I just I feel for the I don't want to make it you think about about the kids but kind of think about the kids a little bit here truly think about the kids a little bit here what's going to happen to Chiron Moore it'll be interesting they played Texas week two yeah that's un week two uh that's going to be fun uh so we gloss over this too but real quick speaking of vacating wins Kentucky football yeah 2021 and 2022 and swimming love this seeing this headline uh on the ncaa's website violations occurred in Kentucky football comma swimming programs so the year in which will Levis had his best season of his career 2021 wins are going to be vacated from that and KY is being placed on probation because according to the NCAA at least 11 football student athletes received payment for work not performed between spring of 2021 and March of 2022 and that's my Friday fire uh Levis is for sure going to be asked about this at some point I mean it was asked about Mark stops trying to duck out for A&M and being successful this came out about a week ago and and Levis has spoken since then uh the the Kentucky stuff came out about a week ago uh four days ago has he talked in the last four days I I don't think he's talked in the last four days no he he did not Friday this Friday we saw this drop yeah so yeah I think Lis had talked on either Thursday or Wednesday that week either way so we'll we'll get around to it because Titans are back on the field today closed practice tomorrow open to the media uh coming up next speaking of college football where do the B's rank in the coaches poll it's officially out we'll tell you e e e e e e e e e e e welcome back to the show we are fueled by Hatty be's Hot Chicken coach's poll is out in the world of college football always worth getting a perspective on where teams or where coaches view the teams heading into the upcoming college football season which is what Lucas about three weeks away we're not that far Labor Day weekend coming up three weeks from Saturday week zero right around the corner so unsurprisingly Georgia the number one team in the country Ohio State Oregon Texas round out the top four Alabama five Old Miss 6 Notre Dame seven Michigan eight uh how much does the eth overall ranking have to do I mean is their current ongoing situation being factored in here no okay uh Penn State Florida state Missouri LSU 11 and 12 Utah Clemson and Tennesseee comes in at 15th on the AP or excuse me on the coaches preseason College Football Poll about right overrated underrated appropriately rated I would say appropriately rated because they're around well Clemson here is interesting to me because I don't know what to do I just don't know what to do with Clemson I don't know what to do with Dabo right now and so you know preseason polls are are you take them with a grain of salt whatever but as if I'm if I'm going to judge Tennessee I have to look at what Tennessee is around do I think Tennessee is on par with Utah as a program right now heading into this upcoming college football season I would say yeah I feel pretty good about that as a parallel Kansas State and Oklahoma who are 16th or I guess Oklahoma 16th Kansas State 17th are they right around there as a program with Tennessee yeah I would probably put them in the same kind of tier working their way up trying to grasp at the top the Heap right now in their respective conferences and then you get into Miami at 19 Texas A&M at 20 Arizona NC State USC Kansas and Iowa rounding out the top 25 Missouri falling out of the top 10 in the coaches poll the preseason poll interesting they're a team that finished in the top 10 last year and return most of their offense including Brady cook and Luther Burton the wide receiver but they lost just about their entire defense and their defense defensive coordinator so okay that's fine the thing that I'm most perplexed by because I agree with you 15 for a team like Tennessee that still has a lot to prove Nik IM malava has all the tools all the excitement the head on his shoulders all of those things but will this Tennessee offense get back to being the 2022 version with henden hooker with Nico that all remains to be seen who steps up at wide receiver what does that rotation end up looking like can the running back room stay healthy all of those questions make it okay for me to Tennessee in as number 15 team in the country in the preseason and see how they could rise up from there but LSU at 12 is interesting to me because when you're talking about teams that have a bunch of players with nothing with just a lot to prove that's LSU to me and their defense should be better how they utilize Harold Perkins will have a spotlight on it all year Brad Baker the defensive coordinator did a phenomenal job with Missouri last year he comes in to fix an atrocious defense and there's always going to be exciting Talent at LSU always Garrett nus me has waited his turn there are breakout candidates at wide receiver for the Tigers but I don't know what about LSU and what they have coming back makes you think that they're on the cusp of the top 10 in the preseason I don't know and all this is is a way to talk about these teams right and preseason expectations I understand this doesn't matter and the games will play everything out but I think it's interesting to frame Tennessee as a top 12 or excuse me LSU as a preseason top 12 team with just how much they lost last year so four teams from the Big 10 matches the same amount for the SEC the most among any of the conferences did you we never got to this clip of Matt rule at what was it big 10 media days talking about what the big 10 deserved relative to the SEC as far as the college football playoff seating looks and is concerned let's hear from Matt Ru and see what the audience thinks of this clip I I I laugh at Troy sometimes like if if if Haven Fields our our sport administrator would have said hey I want to add uh USC and UCLA to the noncon and i' I'd have thrown a fit like I'm not playing those guys well here they are so um I think I think you know when you Road games and sometimes one's like a neutral sight so they play three where you have to go into someone else's Stadium we have to in the Big 10 we have to go into someone else's stadium in our league five times and Duke it out so but I think we'll have a lot of access to the college football playoff and I think I think four teams from this league should get in get in every year because they're this is the best league this is the NFL of college football on my mind stretches from coast to coast different okay that is certainly an opinion is the Big 10 the NFL of college football based on what Matt rule who has been an NFL head coach wasn't a successful NFL head coach has uh but that's his opinion on this situation I think it's I understand his perspective I disagree with his position he's also going to do a good bit of coaches use car salesmanship up there at the podium like these guys some of these guys are expected to do and I know Paul fine bomb kind of went went at him uh a lot harder for this position and and kind of speaking out of turn as as fine bomb basically put it I just can't Envision how Matt rule can justify putting the Big 10 including Oregon and Washington and teams that have competed programs that have competed for the college football playoff I don't I still don't think that you can put them up against the SEC no you can't the SEC is the best conference in the country uh when it comes to the NFL and the amount of players put out to the NFL it's not close but if I am a head coach in the Big 10 I too would be saying the Big 10 is the best college football conference in the country it's what I would be saying in living rooms to players I'm recruiting and it's what I would be saying in the media so I will never take a shot at a coach for saying something that I too would be saying in his very position even if I completely disagree with the principal if this was ex radio host in Michigan with the clip that got out saying the big 10's the NFL that we could rip the guy all day long but I'm not going to go after a coach for saying that I too would say that oh so you're also a liar uh if I was a college football coach yeah that's fair but I'm way to put it in an unofficial capacity it is officially out in an unofficial capacity I just they they treat these things officially so why can't we even if it says in boldprint unofficial at the top it is worth kind of discussing you don't have to parse it too much to try and see where players who you think have fared well maybe where you think players have fallen short ative to expectation or you may be surprised by where the coaching staff puts these guys based on what you've been able to see or notzi there's a couple of different things that are worth noting here on the unofficial the first unofficial depth chart because it is of course officially game week uh who who won the uh Niners Titans tickets for Saturday's game Jackson do you Remember I do not all right good job it was it was Gary he for submitting that French pole vter for his oh no so Gary and so many others uh who will be in attendance at Saturday's festivities the first preseason game of the season at Nissan stadium and on this official or rather unofficial depth chart there's a couple of things of note here because the starters are expected to play in the preseason so now as you watch Starters play in the preseason how much is yet to be determined based on all of this uh based on all of this other stuff that they're currently working through and injuries will factor in the the things of note on the depth chart let's start with the offense just generally what is the base offense a three wide receiver set it is no longer a two- tight end set as it was under Mike Vel for the past six years there are three wide receivers all listed as starters they are Calvin Ridley DeAndre Hopkins and Tyler Boyd shocking to nobody do you see who is listed as the starting right tackle I sure did Nicholas petite fry is listed as the starting right tackle as he turns off the pup sadique Charles listed as the starting Right Guard right now JC leam Peter scony Lloyd cushenberry it is being called a split situation between both CH both sets of tight ends and running backs chiga cono and Josh Wy listed as co-starters Tony Pard Taj Spears the same on the defensive line tandre SWAT listed as a defensive starter as is Sebastian Jose Joseph day Jack gibons chobia wer Jamal Adams as Lucas mentioned at the start of the show and Mason Kinsey as the starting punt returner Taj Spears the starting kick returner Spears and we we always got to say two with the kick returners I think because I think there's always going to be two back there and kiaris Jackson Spears Karis Jackson and Mason Kinsey are your returner group right now jaquin Jackson and KY Phillips are last on that list uh it is worth noting where some of the other rookies are on this depth chart based on where everything else is and we'll do that here in just a second but that that would be my primary observation is that npf starting right tackle he said I've done it twice why not again turns out doesn't have to do too much at least at the star of Camp to be considered the starting guy that makes sense it makes sense that npf is going to have I I understand the ramp up and you had a lot of concern about the ramp the fact that he hadn't gotten any work with pads in with Bill Callahan but he still always had the best path forward to being the starting right tackle he is the most talented player that they have at that position the most talented and the most experienced player at ride tackle that doesn't make it a good situation at right tackle the right side of the offensive line still a concern but it doesn't change the fact that he was always going to have uh the every opportunity to win that job even with missing time so other things of note here that you find on the depth chart uh they're not doing the thing anymore where they put the rookies at the back of the uh that they put them at the back of the list here basically although Kevin excuse me Kevin Farley I almost said Caleb Farley evil twin brother I yeah perhaps we will explore we'll do some big J journalism out there on the practice field yeah it's always so loud maybe my headphones had just turned up but that that was jarring the drama with you the the way that you just threw your entire body back in exasperation it's not that deep I get I get jump scared way too easily like there are people respond differently to jump scares like when Bert jump scared Ramone in here a few weeks ago Ramone you know that switch we talk about with with football players yeah most of us are flight it's flight for me Ramone was the intensity it chart not surprising based on um again dealing with hamstring tightness they're being precautionary about it so he missed a couple of days of practice or about a day and a half of practice right now the backup Corners after Cheeto uer and lerus Sneed are Jarvis brownley ironically enough as an outside corner I would have had him as the backup nickel right now the backup nickel to Roger McCreery is Eric garrer Trey Avery is the backup CH to chidobe AER and Shane Ray is being given prioritization over Caleb Murphy and Harold uh why am I not seeing Harold on the step chart Jaylen Herold the seventh rounder out of Michigan where is jayen har he's buried there with the with some of the the rookies uh he's behind Weaver well sure that makes sense but I don't okay got him uh so Caleb Farley and Caleb Murphy let's just start with the calebs because people have been asking about Caleb Murphy how how he might factor into the edge competition and you want to be fair to him right this is a new system new coaching staff we'll see how it goes but he is still he was a highly productive lower level college football player at FIS State he was excellent you don't what he have like 22 and a half or 23 and a half sacks in a season as a college football player he was he was unblockable unblockable so let's at that level of football so let's not I don't want to discredit him but he has not to date done anything at camp that would at least make me pick up and notice and thus far it doesn't seem like he's been able to crack further than the threes on the depth chart right now so that's your Caleb Murphy update Caleb Farley do we think he makes the roster I know it's an initial it's an it's an unofficial depth chart we're a month away from cutte but he doesn't have to make the roster according to this like does he make the roster today if if roster cuts are happening today right I would say no aier Trey Avery Roger mccre Eric garrer leria sne well maybe he does make it today because of oio maybe that's way I should sure sure you know fair enough that's that's I guess the way that I technically should answer that question but he he probably has an uphill climb um wide receivers and how they're stacked right now Calvin Ridley his primary backup listed as NWI DeAndre Hopkins his primary backup listed as Tayon Burks Tyler Boyd Kyle Phillips seems to be have the at least slight Edge in the backup slot competition despite not being listed as either a primary or a secondary returner what do you make of that yeah we talked about KY Phillips as though he had to have an impact on special teams to make this roster but like you said he's the backup slot according to the first unofficial depth chart and hearnen with the joke of the day Kyle Farley will make the roster Chris Farley will make the roster unsure of Caleb Farley and making the roster to date I mean is there a path for C Phillips to make the roster without having even being in the conversation at P return well cuz he would not I mean where else is he playing on special teams like where else are you putting that guy on special teams you know uh as a backup slot receiver I would have a hard time justifying well I mean in that situation they're not keeping three quarterbacks right I mean unless they're going to go light really light at another position like corner or yeah you never know where you know if they yeah you don't know how it's going to balance out but you don't think there's any path for KY Phils [Music] I is there a path yes sure there there is the path that currently exists right now which is that he's not listed as a primary Turner but he's still a backup a backup player to a a primary player like he's taking up a a slot that would be you know maybe not active on the on the 46-man game day roster but on the 53 could he and jaquin Jackson make the roster I don't know but as well I mean in this scenario it's Kyle Phillips and Mason kiny right as a backup slot I I see a path for Kyle Phil Phillips to make this roster without being the punt returner but we'll see if they Tred him out there at all uh Jon Christian the backup left tackle MH the former Cleveland Brown and Jaylen Duncan relegated to third string at right tackle uh Leroy Watson your boy Bo has not apparently at least on an unofficial depth chart has not really done much to advance his case to date and Hassan H Haskins is listed as rb3 ahead of Julius Chestnut and Jabari small in that battle all right so some observations on the Titans rookies uh we'll talk about sweat and laam of course sweat jaquin Jackson's name is we'll have to bring that up the next time we talk to jaquin JC leam and tandre sweat are starting players on the step chart anybody got an issue with that because I sure as hell don't Devon DW's GNA be on the radio show uh tomorrow as a matter of fact can we hear from Brian Callahan Jackson about tandre sweat and the impact that he's been able to have at practice so far and what it's been like for Brian Callahan to have to call plays against him a lot I feel it a lot um he's just so big and so powerful and and he's got real pass rush wiggle for a guy his size I mean he can get on an edge and work it he's got fast hands um and and I feel it standing back there I feel the push you know those are two him and Jeff inside um you feel that and you watch him in one-on ones and he can win one-on-one which a lot of times those big guys struggle to win one-on-one um but he's got enough quickness to do it so I I feel him in the middle of the defense and I think that's a that's a really good thing for us as a team it's not great for me in practice so from an offensive play caller himself about what it's like to work against tandre sweat and Jeff Simmons and that Titans starting unit on a daily basis because he's talked about Callahan that dard Wilson is throwing different kind of blitzes at them every day talked about the impact that they have had collapsing the the interior of the pocket with success with sweat and Simmons there is no disputing that tandre sweat provided he continue on the correct path and I'll look forward to talking to him we'll see how much he's willing to divulge it seems like they've definitely you know told him less is better than more on public comments especially about it conditioning in his weight but I'd I'd just like to know kind of what their approach has been and how much he might be willing to let the audience into that just kind of like all right you know what are you what are you doing differently that you might have done at Texas or you don't have to take the Texas strength and conditioning people out in that circumstance but kind of just help us understand how you're going about this which we'll see how he answers the question I finally saw his rep against Lloyd cushenberry that you were talking about uh yester from the weekend they put it out on social media oh I think Charles Robinson of Yahoo somebody did maybe I mean Jim's always good with those but uh you're not supposed to during team I don't want to take anybody out but I don't think it would have been Wyatt anyway no it wasn't on this was a this was like an individual this was one V one okay got it it was just sweat against cushenberry who is one of the best centers in the AFC yeah right oh he's one of the best one of the best centers in the NFL he's paid like the best and it's I mean immediately the jam off the line of scrimmage looks like it knocks cushenberry back about 3 feet yeah and then the swim move afterwards so just a little Glimpse uh of tandre SWAT against uh one of the better centers in the NFL it makes you excited about the type of impact player he can be so he is uh to hear leam tell it and I want to make sure I get as close to JC's words as as possible but he said basically that he's not one of these sloppy bigs that just wants to bull rush you he's got some finesse to his game he's got different kind of pass rush moves Greg Co talked about this when we did the install live show with ran 6 days after the draft how how much more potential there is as a pass rusher based on what he's already capable of because he does have above average pass rush skills for an interior for a nose we'll just say I mean I don't know that a Vince will Fort comparison is is a Dept there because Vince did primarily get pressure by bull rushing that's that's kind of what Vince V Fork's game was he had some skill to him of course he wasn't just a one-dimensional player but I if if you can find the Next Generation Vince will fork in the middle of your defense and be able to move Jeff around that way you hear leam talk about Jeff lining up on leam on the tackle and then rushing from the inside kind of doing some of the Deno arri stuff where he's not just an interior player it it could end up being special so leam and and sweat are listed as starting players as outside of that Jarvis brownley Jr is the primary backup on the outside to leria sne which surprised me he is the only other rookie who is listed as a primary backup to one of the starters the rest of these guys including the undrafted like David Martin Robinson Steven sanos the tight ends Cole Spencer uh a udfa that a lot of you guys were interested in jaquin Jackson uh is further down the wide receiver depth chart and in fact Cedric gray is listed I mean you could Cedric gray and James Williams depending on how you might stack them are the fifth and sixth off ball linebackers according to the unofficial Titans dep chart Jack Gibbons and Kenneth Murray listed as the ones Gareth Garrett wallow not Gareth but Garrett wallow and chance Campbell who's flashed he's been around the ball noticed him a lot more he's been healthy right he's he's just not been healthy since they drafted him at a Old Miss I want to say is a sixth round pick but wallow and Campbell are the primary backups and then you see gray and Otis Reese after that stacked with Luke gford Jojo doen and James Williams surprised about Cedric gray there are you asking if I am I am asking if you're surprised about cedri gray I am not surprised about Cedric gray I will and and listen I can't watch every player every day it's impossible for any of us any of us to do so so I don't want to speak out of turn but I myself have only noticed Cedric gray in one practice which one uh it was on Sunday because he got effective pressure forced it would have been a sack or an incompletion against Malik Willis and they were running team at the time but they sent him on a pressure whether he was a fourth rusher or a Blitzer I couldn't quite tell from my vantage point but he got there and that was the first time that I've kind of noticed him other than you know being around the football with a bunch of other Defenders and secondary players yeah we talked about that inside linebacker battle next to Kenneth Murray like it was between Jack Gibbons and Cedric gray didn't we and you should never take away you know any blanket opinions about the season at this point in training camp with the first unofficial depth chart but with Gibbons in there as the starter and gray as buried as he is on the depth chart not behind Jack Gibbons but behind chance Campbell then it is hard to Envision a scenario where the rookie is starting next to Kenneth Murray in week one Taj Spears or rather jaquin Jackson not listed as a primary or a secondary returner in this unofficial depth chart Mason Kinsey is listed and listen to Mason Kinsey's credit he is heading into year five as an NFL player being on a roster or a practice squad in some form or fashion this is a big deal for Mason Kinsey even if it's just for the time being and it may not be for the for the time being but we'll see Spears as the kick returner Kinsey as the punt returner Karis Jackson as the secondary in both of those situations then Kyle Phillips and jaquin Jackson jaquin Jackson listed as a kick returner as opposed to a punt returner on this which is not what he was almost exclusively in college so worth keeping an eye on there in the new look kickoff rules tayin Burks not listed as a returner in this particular setup that was interesting to me yeah Burks would Burks be down down there you think if dehop is healthy or no I mean DeAndre Hopkins is he's on the dep he is a starter on the depth so the answer to that is no uh just with the amount of work Burks has gotten at the return spot I was surprised to not even see his name on the Special Teams depth chart well you know again it's not it's unofficial for a reason so it's it's subject to change at any given point but that's kind of where things Stack Up on the depth chart and that's how I would expect to see things play out in the preseason game on Saturday we're going to actually start previewing a game tomorrow I guess uh out at Titans training camp practice the N the ners are not an uninteresting team right now in the news with everything that's going on with Brandon auk I don't know uh how much of a talking point that will be for us unless he I mean it sounds like he's he's potentially going to land in the AFC the Browns and the Patriots are the two teams that have been the closest it seems to acquiring his Services based on reports from NBC bay area uh if you missed that earlier they the reporting from Matt mayoko who is based in San Francisco is that the 49ers have a framework in place with both the Browns and the Patriots to execute some kind of deal it is just basically now up to Brandon iuk to choose which contract offer on the other side of the trade makes the most sense for him I I don't know where Cleveland's getting the money to be honest with you that is if not for Deshawn Watson which is a crazy sentence to say even as I understand what deshun Watson has been with the Browns if not for Deshaun Watson that's the best roster in football I feel like yeah it's up there I mean it's it's the ners in that discussion uh Dallas is less than but they still have they have players three of three really good players at three of the most important positions in daak CI and and Micah Parsons but it's probably the ners the Eagles the Chiefs by default and then I I would be willing to say the Cleveland Browns if not for deshun Watson who's just an anchor around their neck now the Niners have have reportedly accepted what the Browns and Patriots offered for auk and it's just about the money at this point Titans don't play the Browns they do play the Patriots so it's possible that you would see Brandon auk at some point because they pay the they play the Patriots in no November right now in fact it's the only game on the Titans regular season schedule that according to the offshore odds makers they would be faved in I don't know where I would rather see him I mean I think I guess the answer is I would rather see him in the in the Browns offense but that is I have such a bad taste in my mouth about the whole Deshawn about not even the person anymore at this point even though there is still a lot of that but about the player I have it's been a long time since I've seen joh Watson be a good football player I don't know how you just get that back what Brandon auk I mean he'd be in there opposite Amari Cooper yeah what does that mean for somebody like Cedric Tilman that they're trading for auk yeah or or are interested in trading for auk yeah there's there's a lot I mean you go down that there Donovan peoples Jones and Elijah Moore you can go down that list of Browns wide receivers Amari Cooper who I believe they redid some stuff with his contract this offseason too he's getting more money this year with while still being a a a pending free agent in 2025 uh haven't seen I mean what the 49ers coming to town I don't I can't say off the top of my head what Kyle Shanahan's preseason approach has been in terms of whether or not he plays starters do you remember no can you think about what what they've done in the past I don't Titans haven't played the ners in the preseason since I I don't know when no so I'm trying to think of you know maybe we could do some homework on that and figure out what kind of matchups would be there for tandre SWAT we by the time I mean as as the week goes on we may know by from Kyle Shanahan I assume he'll speak next Wednesday yeah uh at this point uh right now the reporting around auk's agent was that he was given permission at the time to see if other teams would pay the wide receiver what he was after and at that time the price was reportedly $28 million a year auk's agent and this is uh CBS Sports on the reporting on this auk's agent found five different teams willing to give that contract to him but those five teams could not meet the 49ers desired trade compensation now there was a couple of other teams beyond the Browns and the Patriots that were in on this circumstance um but did have since dropped out including the team that he seemed to be messaging that he wanted to go to the most which is the Washington commanders uh wide receiver Market has been crazy it continues to be crazy right it's anytime you start to see anybody in any profession making $30 million a year plus that is crazy money and it has been very active this offseason where there are now four wide receivers who have secured contracts that include averages of at least $30 million a year when does it be when does it get too much and I'm not saying that I'm not saying that players shouldn't demand what their worth but if you're an organization what is the limit or what limit are you willing to go to to keep a wide receiver in a situation like let's take San Francisco what does San Francisco have on the horizon well the pry conversation is going to be F P's contract yeah I mean if you think tuo was polarizing Brock pie the idea of Brock P making somewhere ballpark $60 million a year there is going to be all kinds of think pieces and and debates had about whether it's the system whether it's the player really Mr irelevant a $60 million a year player by the way worth noting Mary K Kitt reported that the Browns would be in a position to add auk if Amari Cooper were sent to San Francisco oh so that's that's the layer uh put in there by cat out of Cleveland so Niners would still be paying a wide receiver but Mari Cooper is not getting what Brandon auk is asking for I imagine in terms of topof the top of Market money for a wide receiver but you can't you can't pay one of these guys $30 million a year and also have that quarterback right Minnesota's not doing it uh Jaylen herzon and AJ Brown are are both on second deals but think about how much bigger the market has gotten since Jaylen Herz got paid yeah but Devonte Smith is getting paid up there too yeah and it's a lot it's a lot more that there's much more financial investment in the offense right now than there is the defense because the defense is still young they've done well to supplement that defensive Talent they got a lot of rookie contracts run around over there and Fletch did Fletcher Cox Fletcher Cox retired didn't he he's not on another NFL roster no maybe back on a one-year deal he retired okay did retire so there's some cap relief in that um they don't have buyer's contract on the books anymore so they they did have some money to work with and and they paid Squan right they're paying sequan a lot of money so the money that's not being spent on the defense is is currently being spent on the offense uh we
