Braves trade Odorizzi to Rangers for Kolby Allard.

what's up guys Braves make a trade left-handed pitcher Colby Howard old friend back from Texas for Jake odorizzi and why I didn't do this earlier I was waiting on the financials and just kind of trying to figure out um my opinion on this trade it's a little odd to be honest this is why typically the Braves have Team options and not player options with Jake odorizzi having a 12 million dollar player option at age 32 obviously you think he's gonna opt in with his recent injury history and inconsistent performance even though I thank him for the MLS clinching game against Miami last year uh that was a clinic for him and he pitched well um against Philly keeping us uh with a pulse in the um playoffs as well when we're our backs against the wall so thanks Jake for that um but we basically saved two and a half million which doesn't seem like a lot but all the money um matters even if they're since in terms of um baseball two and a half million can go a long way um but I think it's essentially because of the roster spot because you clear a 40 spot Kobe hour does have a minor league option uh which he might be likely dfa'd and signed to a minor league deal given how much he struggled uh one and two last year with the seven two nine and a nine and three 9 and 23 record with the 607 era in his career nothing to write home about for sure but he's only 25 um and we've seen some magic be worked at AAA and double A with our pitching pitching staffs before AKA Kyle Wright um so maybe um Kobe Howard can get a refresher um but basically this gives you an extra roster spot um and obviously we are more confident in our younger arms in our system to be comfortable doing this with uh Jared Shuster uh Kyle Muller Bryce Elder things of that nature I think it's a better option for your fifth spot and nothing against Jake but um 12 million for him is a little too much chunk of change for even me I know the savings didn't seem like it should be like it like it's a good thing because two and a half million but like I said uh any any savings is good and you know there's always a method to AAS Madness um so welcome back to Atlanta Colby Howard thank you Jake odorizzi for what you did in Atlanta um he had some really good moments so I really really appreciate that and I hope uh Colby can figure it out and have a career Renaissance back with the Braves Colby was the former 14th overall pick in 2015. so um it's definitely an interesting trade and we'll have to see how it plays out but roster spots are definitely important uh we have 38 of our 40 man roster filled and I'm pretty sure like I said earlier the DFA for Colby Aller and he might sign a minor league um contract giving us an extra one so 37 plus the Rule 5 draft and you have to protect some players as well um in the coming days so there's going to be a lot of moves especially since uh free agency starts tomorrow at five if you have any questions I know that was a lot um but overall I think it's an okay it's it's an okay trade just uh salary dump that doesn't give us much salary relief but the roster spots more important so as always go Braves Champions forever if you have any questions drop them down in the comments I know that was a lot but I will have everything covered for you as always go Braves Champions forever
