nonetheless it's it's a really good week of uh college football matchups and we're not talking Nebraska Louisiana Tech here uh kicks off at 2 30 p.m on Saturday um first off this this is at 11 A.M on ABC just because Clemson's not ranked as high as they were prior to losing to Duke I still think there's some attraction to watch Clemson if they're playing another good team well I feel this week's attraction with Clemson is just to see them continue to fall potentially and that's and that's very possible this week they host number four Florida State at home okay at Clemson I'm watching for Florida State and you might be you might be Florida State obviously had the scare I think against Boston College this last Saturday I care not for the Tigers but the Seminoles I'll watch the semins Regal watches seminars obviously if they wear the all black there you go yeah the the 2 30 game on ABC 19 ranked Colorado who will more than likely be without Travis Hunter I believe three to four weeks yeah I believe so with a lacerated liver yeah um 19th ranked Colorado travels the number 10 organ that's a loss Your Man Bo Nicks yeah he's going to continue his Heisman campaign okay Bo knows not the same boat but Bonos that's who it is we need two bows with heismans it's necessary I want to say about Nixon a new Heisman commercial and then UCLA and travels to Utah that's a top 25 matchup 23rd ranked UCLA who comes in 3-0 going to number 11 Utah is my game is my guy uh cam Rising back because they struggled in their last this might be the first game that cam Rising if they get Cam Rising back they're rolling they're rolling UCLA and they're rolling through the rest of the Pack toys I cannot find if he is back right off the bat I need cam Rising back so so we might that might be too many trophies in the Big Ten Conference number 24 Iowa they've crept their way back into the top 25. look at them number 24 Iowa travels to number seven Penn State on Saturday this one's at 6 30 on CBS you see there on the night game on CBS they're wearing black pants I did not yellow with their white jerseys yeah yeah if I you gotta look good for when you get blown out and then they very they're very well might get blown out um just just rolls yeah I actually I need Penn State to just roll the spread in this one is Penn State now once again this is a a 7 verse 24 matchup Penn State ranked seventh in the country while the Hawkeyes come in at 24th Penn State in Happy Valley in a night game is far they're favored by 14 and a half questions after you're done the over under is just at 40. so if you want to do the math here they're predicting what is that a oh gosh uh 35 to well you guys no it'd be more like 20 22 20 yeah 22 to oh I want to be seven but I mean they're talking about like yeah like 30 31 16 31 14 game not even seems interesting so question for you what's up has Penn State joined the top two like joined the the top three the top two teams in the Big Ten Ohio State Michigan here's here's where we're gonna find out because this week and probably the game of the week um and this is a big one for me personally with our playoff picks uh because Ohio State travels to South Bend to play The Undefeated number nine Notre Dame Fighting Irish this one 6 30 p.m kickoff on NBC not ABC man on NBC tragic and so Notre Dame obviously led by transfer quarterback Sam Hartman now here's the thing what is Fox up in Eugene Fox's would Fox is going to be in Tempe where it is number five USC versus Arizona State you know for uh for a for a TV station whatever that's uh followed or not followed but stayed in in Boulder for the past two weeks do not go up to Eugene big noon is going to be in Eugene but are they going to bruh okay just because you say that 11 A.M on Fox this weekend so there's gonna be there's a lot of good there's other ranked games on here there's some good unranked games um Arkansas goes to 12th ranked LSU this weekend let's go Sam Pittman uh Texas travels to Baylor let's see North Carolina goes to Pittsburgh California goes California Goes to Washington so I mean there's some there's some how many points does Washington put on Cal oh more or less than they put on Wisconsin you mean Michigan State Michigan State whoever they played ye more more more on Cal okay absolutely yeah callus not squid not good Cal is bad yeah Cal is very bad oh they're they're although they're two in one um their two wins have been to North Texas they went on the road in the first game of the year this is the cow two North Cal Golden Bears they went to North Texas and won 58-21 came back lost to Auburn 14-10 Peyton Thorn the Tigers and then they beat the Idaho vandals at home 31-17 so California and cows is not good either so all right released earlier today um so we're gonna kind of take a take a step back from football we'll definitely get to that but the overarching thought that I have regarding Nebraska men's basketball and the way their schedule lines up this year is somewhat in favor of Nebraska there's there's plenty of opportunities there for Nebraska Men's Basketball to maybe put together some wins coming off of a season where they were 16 and 16 right uh here they are they start out with now this is Nebraska basketball we're talking about I understand that be careful now plenty of layups but but left-handed layups but what I would say because it's Nebraska is that then it gets a little tougher and we'll let you know who they're gonna face off against in conference play um because Nebraska this is a crucial season you bring in some new faces obviously still up in the air about Aaron Euless who took a plea deal and got fined a little less than 700 bucks for his uh his that's crazy his part in the underage gambling scandal with the University of Iowa um now he's just waiting on his decision from the NCAA but no no nonetheless uh Nebraska they have an opportunity here with with their schedule uh they get to avoid going to some some daunting places and having teams come to Pinnacle Bank Arena this year rather than having to travel somewhere as well so I'll tell you this no trips to Iowa City for Nebraska men's basketball this year so if you're a fan in Iowa City then I'm sorry you're not going to get to go right down the road and watch Nebraska men's basketball but nonetheless we'll let Sports here um men's basketball football and volleyball in this hour first let's go ahead and start with a little bit of husker volleyball discussion um because we we were unable to get to them and talk about them yesterday when the previous evening they knocked off and I should say held off rather yeah number 21 Kentucky that was a nail biter Kentucky it was as you mentioned a nail biter and and especially in the third set it got really interesting because Kentucky comes in takes the third set and then it was like oh no Nebraska I found myself going don't lose this set do not because then you're talking about a clear momentum shift Nebraska won the first two sets Kentucky and despite Nebraska being at home Kentucky if they would have won the next two sets that makes for a very anxious and nerve-wracking fifth set but thankfully Nebraska who is starting to get into their Gauntlet of the schedule right big tense big ten plays about you know is on the horizon Ohio State Ohio State comes to town on Friday and they're currently ranked I believe 21st in the country now with the new eight people Nebraska is moved up to number two behind number one Wisconsin in the AP poll this week who got pushed yes Erna who pushed Florida so the the the thing yes or not yesterday the the night that Nebraska played Kentucky is that there were obviously multiple volleyball matches going on around the country but two in particular saw ranked home teams in Louisville and Florida yeah take 2-0 leads against the teams that they were playing Louisville was playing Stanford had a 2-0 lead and Florida was playing Wisconsin Louisville went on both of those teams went on to lose in five sets reverse sweep action for Stanford Over Louisville and Wisconsin over Florida so in the in the media room before we're sitting there and you know just talking about the reverse sweeps that had happened earlier in the day and were like you know hopefully Nebraska is able to take care of business and as soon as they lost that third set we're up in media Road looking at each other like is this about to happen yeah because you mentioned it the the crowd at the Bob was loud and raucous and and Roland and Kentucky wasn't able to find their groove offensively hitting somewhere or you know under 200 for the first two sets and then in that third set just exploded they hit like 400 and just took the crowd almost completely out of it outside of a couple of plays here and there for Nebraska and I the set was going back and forth but I don't think Nebraska LED at all or for a very short period of time during that third set and Kentucky just almost took all of the wind out of the devaney crowd but then that fourth set going back and forth you had a an epic what was it 72 second rally between the teams that just had the had you know the Kentucky fans that are sitting behind uh media row which shout out to Kentucky I want to say they traveled the best out of any of the teams so far outside of Creighton who's just down the road I want to say Kentucky traveled the best out of any of the other any of the other teams that have come to the devaney this season but they were loud and they were excited for for the Wildcats but during after that 72 second rally um the entire Bob just on their feet clapping crowd they excited and uh Harper Murray after the fact uh in in the post-game presser was saying that she's glad that Kentucky challenged it because everybody on the court needed a breather because it was just it was crazy and you could tell about halfway through that they were getting some heavy legs and they were getting a little tired the the jumping for for uh kills wasn't exactly the same height or the same explosiveness as it was earlier in the in the in the rally so it was an it was an epic time during that 72 seconds but um Nebraska very Scrappy play a lot of long points that they ended up winning I think they won all of the the longer points during that entire match but again that third set Kentucky despite only having two wins on the season is a really good team they had a gauntlet of a schedule early and as John said if after uh after the game in the in the post-match uh presser he wouldn't be surprised if they're competing for the SEC title well so one thing I do I mean as you mentioned Rico Kentucky went through a gauntlet of a schedule and Nebraska that's gonna be a similar story with with Ohio State this this Friday um Ohio State the record on paper three and six overall but since let's see what date would this have been September 1st so in this month of September they went into September they're on a six-match losing streak um they've played number 11 Georgia Tech twice they've lost both of those they lost against Stanford they lost against number six Oregon lost against number six Texas at the time and then lost also against number 18 Baylor so they have lost their six losses have all come to top 18 opponents in the top 25 at one point Ohio state was actually ranked ninth they were in the top ten of the avca uh Top 25 Poll but uh you know obviously six losses Are Gonna Knock you back a few spots Nebraska as we mentioned one of six Big Ten teams to be ranked in the top 25 uh this week as of Monday uh Wisconsin comes in at number one Nebraska at number two Nebraska actually received two first-place votes as well uh in Monday's poll all the other Big Ten teams uh in the in the top 25 Minnesota comes in at 12. Penn State comes in at 15th Purdue at 19th and then as we mentioned Ohio State at 21st so Nebraska's next two matches 21st and 12th and 12th State Minnesota exactly so Nebraska they started out with a couple I don't want to call them cakewalks but easy warm-up games I should say matches if you will they were and that's a big reason why Nebraska you know had swept every opponent and their their first set that was lost was against Creighton I believe they've only lost three sets and so when you look at just the differences maybe in schedules and this is absolutely not a knock on Nebraska and it hasn't hurt them necessarily in rankings and and in uh in National respect this season but Nebraska somewhat started out with a little bit of an easier schedule while you see a Kentucky play play six or seven ranked teams in a row and have a two and five record you see now Ohio State plays six ranked teams in a row and obviously have that three and six record Nebraska for the matter played a really good Creighton team who were out one of their better players they were missing one of their better players they end up beating Creighton in four sets at the Bob devaney Sports Center and then now this last week they go on the road they win in four sets at Stanford number five Stanford that is they then follow that up with a top 25 victory at home against the Kentucky Wildcats so for for the record obviously Nebraska who is 9-0 this year they've been challenged in the games that they have been challenged they've answered the call and they've uh certainly looked dominant and looked like a top five team in the country so you would expect them to be able to uh keep that thing going here and if you remember last year Ohio State I believe came into the Bob and beat Nebraska I could be wrong on that I do remember the Ohio State very good last year made it to the elite eight um but this Ohio State team completely different they lost five starters to the transfer portal in the off season because with and this this happened to a lot of teams and this is probably going to be something that Nebraska is going to have to deal with at the end of the season with the covid players being able to say an extra year they had a roster that was full at the end of the season well they had a really good recruiting class coming in and they weren't going to tell those girls that they couldn't come in so they need to find five spots for them five starters left including their All-American Mac Pedraza of the five players that left janesha Moore Gabby Gonzalez Adria Powell Kylie Murr uh and Mac Pedraza um all leaving Ohio State this last season so that's this team that's coming in right now is is different they're still really good team still ranked in the top 25 but they are in the midst of a youth movement a little bit different than what Nebraska is going through where Nebraska has extremely talented um young athletes but is still very um not not senior heavy because they don't have any seniors but experience yeah they're experienced in playing volleyball just maybe not at the college level I should say uh because we know they have that International experience that they can back it up on now one thing I would also add just going back to 2022 Nebraska beat Ohio State at home in five sets when Nebraska traveled to Columbus Ohio last year Ohio State beat the Huskers in four sets uh so that's something I also keep an eye on uh Sten chimes in on the text line 464-5685 on the starter Heyman text line and said it mentions a good point Stanford went on to beat at the time number two Louisville on the road after Nebraska went to uh Palo Alto and beat Stanford last week one of them never sweeps and exactly and so that was part of a big shift in in college volleyball is the number two number two team in the country Louisville lost they fell out of that spot and then number three as Rico mentioned at the top of the segment number one Wisconsin went on the road to Florida before former School of Merit Beeson Who currently plays for the Nebraska Cornhuskers who was Big Ten player of the week as well uh in the conference Wisconsin beats uh Florida on the road in the swamp and so Florida moves out of number three as well so that allowed Nebraska to slide in there at number two um Wisconsin by the way who's also 9-0 this year their first conference game is going to be against Northwestern on the road they they open it up with maybe a little bit of a lighter schedule in the conference Wisconsin took northwestern's best player Tammy Thomas ilara um and she's there starting one of their starting outside hitters this season so Northwestern down their best her first conference game she gets to face her old team no so Wisconsin they started out I I should say I mean they played a couple ranked teams in non-conference play uh nobody really highly ranked other than the number three the number three team at the time the Florida Gators uh who we just talked about as they beat him on Sunday they've been pushed to five a couple times they have been but now Wisconsin they will start out with a little bit of a lighter load in conference play than maybe the Huskers do uh they face Northwestern who's unranked Indiana who's unranked they'll travel to Ohio State um but then it's Michigan Iowa Illinois Rutgers Maryland their first so I mean up until October 18th Ohio state will be as of right now the only ranked Conference team that they'll play I'm pretty sure Nebraska only plays ranked teams in conference to start this to start their conference plates the Big Ten is a fantastic it's a gauntlet conference and even with a Northwestern and an island in Michigan those are still going they're still going to push Wisconsin but I mean when you look at Wisconsin you look at the roster that they have you look at the towns that they've assembled and regardless of the fact that they've been pushed to five multiple times against you know Florida but maybe I think it was like two unranked teams push them to five as well um despite that they are probably the most talented team in the nation they're number one for a reason they have all but two first place votes for a reason that is a very good Wisconsin team that has has women who would start on every other team in the nation on their bench because of how much talent they have similar to Nebraska though for that matter as well so very similar Nebraska as we talked about they'll open up with with quite a gauntlet Minnesota Purdue uh Indiana after Ohio States and so you have uh let's see it's it's two home games against Ohio State and Minnesota who are top top 25 teams produce a top 20 team uh they'll face them on the road in uh West Lafayette and then it's Indiana Michigan State Michigan Michigan State again before towards the end of the year though Nebraska I mean welcome back to the Big Ten volleyball I mean because you have in a stretch of just a couple of weeks it's Wisconsin Penn State uh Wisconsin again Minnesota Penn State again so I mean you're talking about just in the span of a couple weeks with other decent programs mixed in there I mean some some really difficult tests for you it's a good way to uh test yourself right before uh the NCAA tournament gets upon you but uh to just really quick uh injury update for uh Nebraska volleyball yeah Lainey choboy has not practiced yet John Cook isn't sure when she'll be back um I think she was supposed to practice today but he wasn't sure and then Lindsey Krause did practice today but he wasn't sure how much she practiced um Laney choboy nursing and injury that she suffered against Stanford just a collision on the court and uh Lindsey Krause in an uh she got rear-ended on O Street and John Cook kind of went on a long rant after the game he also talked to an LPD Sergeant yeah as well about the safety of driving on O Street and and how crazy some folks can be out there um he's not a fan of those three but we're right here what's crazy about Laney also that maybe we haven't discussed she stayed in the game yeah like she stayed in the match and she finished it out although uh it would definitely looked awkward and and she was not a hundred percent don't rely on what her injury is but yeah Augie this on the text line we'll have to get to this here uh before the break and we'll get to Big Ten basketball Nebraska football in the second segment but I thought we we both thought it was important that we mentioned Husker volleyball as they knocked off number 21 at the time Kentucky on Sunday August said this how do you think conference realignment will affect volleyball and other sports I mean specifically for volleyball you're just adding fuel to the fire in in this case because UCLA is really good at volleyball they're gonna add they're gonna add themselves to it USC USD 15 team year in and you're out watches it's pretty pretty uh uh solid as well I mean you like you said other sports look at softball yeah Washington Oregon us UCLA that's just ridiculous women's basketball is the same way men's basketball like everybody talks about football and all this but you look at the other sports USC UCLA Washington and and Oregon being added is just going to make the Big Ten that much more of a power conference in every single sport exactly so no looking forward I mean it's only hopefully uh I think what all big ten schools and institutions and it's come I mean how enjoyable is it for for Nebraska Alaska fans sitting here in from their perspective when you have a program like Nebraska volleyball that is in such stable hands that which is John Cook and and and you know that the Dynasty is going to be alive and well for multiple years that it's hey Bring it on Bring on that those those those top Ed you know top end of the of the of the of the market teams let's get it because we believe we're still better and Nebraska has been competing obviously at a national uh National level as well and I just want to go softball and baseball is really going to be interesting because will will the Big Ten Conference eventually you know Institute early season conference games so that Nebraska can go out to UCLA and play why not series can they go out to USC and play a four-game set same with softball um rather than really having to go play non-conference games in Arizona play non-conference games in Florida uh games in Texas I think they'll still hold on a whole lot of those but you'll have conference games that then you're not trying to cram everything towards the back end in all these Colder Weather States and sites you know and such so you might have a lot of uh a lot of the Big Ten teams going on road trips out to the West Coast to start off even even you know you'll keep those early season tournaments out in California Texas Arizona Florida but then early season exactly conference play you know you'll find yourself out at Washington and Oregon and USC and you exactly so all right let's get to break when we come back let's uh dive into a little Husker basketball Husker men's basketball uh specifically because their conference schedule got released we'll we'll just kind of give folks a refresher on who they're playing in non-con uh because there are a couple intriguing matchups outside of just the one that is a staple in the against the Creighton blue jays who come to Lincoln this year uh into Pinnacle Bank Arena but there's a couple other uh really intriguing matchups that Nebraska is going to have in the non-conference and then we'll fill you in on the conference schedule because people are forgetting this we are 10 days away from opening night with the Husker Hoops uh here at Pinnacle Bank Arena and then I believe so somebody had never heard of I don't know who that is but uh so we're 10 days away from that as that is uh going on on September 29th and then a month from that day on October 29th women's are gonna get rolling opening night with Husker Hoops is on September 29th uh so I believe if I'm not mistaken that's not this Friday but the following Friday I believe because I believe this Friday is the 22nd you are correct so coming down the shoot um as uh as they say Nebraska Men's Basketball opening night with Husker hoops from Pinnacle Bank Arena on September 29th then a month after that it will be the opening of or I should say season opener sorry season opener the opening of the Season yes against don't I was trying to fix the quarter of my headphones there um you're not wrong so I was a little disappointed or a little distracted um but nonetheless here is how the conference slate pans out for Nebraska they will start conference play they'll have two uh suit or you know earlier conference games this year they will travel to Minnesota the team that knocked them out of the Big Ten tournament last year on December 6th and then they will face Michigan State at home on December 10th but then not play another conference game until they get fully into it uh starting January 3rd now I was looking earlier at Nebraska basketball schedule and this is a a team that went 16 and 16 obviously right 500 uh last year under Fred Hoiberg depending on who you talk to the seats warm the seats not warm give them some time depending on who you talk to that's not the conversation we're gonna have today um but more so the Husker Men's Basketball schedule if you if you look at it understanding the Personnel that the Huskers do have do we ever understand the personal that the Huskers have though I think this year maybe you have a better a better idea but like truly like year in and year out and this isn't me being a Debbie Downer but it's gonna sound like if you're gonna figure out we look at uh Oscar men's basketball roster and we're like look man this team has some Talent this team has a lot of guys who can do this and this guy can do this and and they're going to be able to you know hopefully fix the things that have plagued them the season before with the returners and this and that and we look at it and we say that and then the season starts and they break our hearts again so so and this again this isn't me being a Debbie Downer but with the people that are returning you you feel pretty solid about that some of the guys that are returning maybe don't have as much experience playing but they are coming back on the same team with some of the same players and all that and some of the transfers that they brought in you feel pretty good about what they did at their previous steps right we felt that way before whatever so you put it all together and we look at a schedule and we say you know what Nebraska should be able to beat these teams or or maybe Nebraska has a better advantage over these teams when I guess what I'm trying to say is I just and it's one of those it's kind of like the football team this year where give me a couple games in and then maybe I'll feel a little bit better about it I'm not sure after after the first couple of games you're really gonna know much about this team so so just a little bit of a 5 000 foot view into Nebraska Men's Basketball here they return five of their top eight scorers from a team that went 16 and 16 last year they won six of their final eight Big Ten contests uh last season as well obviously headlined by Casey Tomi Naga they also welcome back three other players who made at least 12 starts last season in Juwan Gary CJ wilter and sophomore Jamarcus Lawrence Nebraska adds uh seven recruits five transfers and two freshmen and Nebraska's transfer class brought in Five Guys that features All Conference performers rank mass at Bradley Bryce Williams at Charlotte and Geron also known as boogie boogie Coleman at Ball State so as I was looking through this right we haven't and Byron the hog farmer says this we haven't had depth like this in a long time 10 Deep and two Walk-Ons that can help I I think this season's going to be a lot of fun I think there's a lot of expectations towards Nebraska basketball right because you look at what maybe last year sparked or invigorated into this fan base we're sitting there at 16 and 16 thinking Nebraska is a really talented basketball team Casey I mean I was in the building for that Maryland game it was a lot of fun there that was great that was a lot of fun where it went to overtime K-State tomyagas as electric of a player as there is and probably the country seems to take a step forward yup Sam Hoiberg after not really playing a huge role as a walk-on at the start of the year due to injuries and other stuff has to play a big role towards the end and was such a vital part of this team towards the end of the year that all is is returning everything we mentioned now yes you want Gary early season yes solid until he got hurt you lose and you you you graduate a guy like Derek Walker which his leadership on and off the floor is is hard to replace you're not going to be able to find another Derek Walker you're not going to be able to expect somebody else to be in a Derek Walker that's my biggest worry but then also Sam griesel as well that is true but that's my biggest worry is when Derek Walker wasn't playing in those first however many games what was it four maybe more I don't remember exactly but when he wasn't playing in those games how how often did we find ourselves saying man really wish we had Derek Walker man really wish we had Derek Walker when Derek Walker wasn't on the floor in certain games in some situations you're like man you really need to get Derek Walker back out there you can see how much the offense relied on him how much the offense moved through him so losing him him going on to to you know greener pastures um starting the trucking business yeah wherever wherever he is whatever he's doing I wish him the best and I hey all that but not having him on this team is my biggest concern because yes you do have the electric KSA tominagi you do have that guy who can you know shoot it from damn near wherever he could probably inbound the ball shoot it and it might go in um or at least we'd expect it to go in and and you have Juwan Gary coming back Jamarcus Lawrence took a step forward uh uh uh Sam Hoiberg with what he was doing towards the end of the season was fantastic uh uh you you like the potential of Romel Lloyd Jr you bring in rink Mass who has shown you that he he has a little bit a little get up and go uh when he was with Bradley and playing for his national team where I forget his national team uh wherever he's from I don't mean Netherlands yeah for the Netherlands national team and uh all the other players that are here but the one the main Cog in the machine for Nebraska men's basketball last year was Derek Walker how do they function without him is my biggest concern and I think that hopefully and I like you said you probably won't learn a lot from the first couple of games but hopefully will be able to see some semblance of what the offensive uh how the offense is going to to maneuver itself how efficient they're going to be without him in the middle you know guiding everybody where they need to go making passes uh playing Bully ball what did you say last year whenever he lower his shoulder and just go into somebody downhill Derek walk downhill Derek Walker without that how are they going to how efficient are they going to be without him I would say this so we got asked on the text line who's their who's the next big right I think and with with every Nebraska basketball team right same we do with with Husker football you're always going to be kind of banking on potential I think right like that's just Nebraska is never going to be a program at least in the near future that's going to be able to reload on five stars reload on these Ultra talented players that are you know high level Prospect like you're never going that's not where Nebraska is at and that's not what they're going to be for the near future as a program so you're always going to be reliant on Talent now with that being said you would hope that a healthy Blaze keita steps up right at six foot eleven 257 pounds that's what he's listed at you hope that A ranked Mass transfer of six foot ten 248 out of uh Bradley who who can shoot a jumper as well and you can help out right yeah you hope that Josiah Alec a transfer from New Mexico coming back home playing a big part as a six foot eight six foot nine body certainly helps and then also you also have a true freshman in uh matter job excuse me is that how his job okay uh for a 610 freshman 213 pounds from Senegal uh where he played it he played also played at the Keystone athletic Academy you hope that that benefits Nebraska basketball rice Eli rice IMG not necessarily a big man but he's he's a forward player he played power forward at IMG Eli rice six foot eight He's listed as a guard on Nebraska's roster interesting nonetheless so there's your next big back to the schedule here Nebraska basketball and this is where they have an opportunity to start out with and rack up a couple of wins right out of the gate and it's you face you face don't obviously to start then it's Lindenwood and all these games are at home I should say yeah Lindenwood Florida a m writer and Stony Brook that was your first uh five games for Nebraska men's basketball all at Pinnacle Bank Arena careful now Sony Brook baseball can do it that's right well and frankly Nebraska basketball one thing that they've really improved on over the last couple of years has been the ability to beat the teams they're supposed to beat in the non-conference last year was so so nice that's such a great adjective so so great as a fan because you were able to see them beat the teams that they were supposed to beat there was no loss to Kennesaw State there was no loss to Incarnate Word Garner Webb there was none of that last year um in the non-conference where it felt like dang maybe this team is a lot worse than we thought it was going to be you had the lyrics you had the blowout loss against Kansas State but then you were able to back that up with a blowout win at home against Iowa and then and also yeah Kansas state was really good led by Jerome tang and obviously keonte Johnson and and uh and Marquis Noel as well for for the Kansas State Wildcats then you have a neutral sight game against Oregon state which obviously one of your first Power five opponents there Oregon state that one's going to be played in Sioux Falls Oregon State last year 11 and 21 overall out in Corvallis you come back home you have a matchup against Duchesne then it's Cal State Fullerton at home all of those before you hit Creighton at home and on the road at Kansas State so those are your two hardest I think we can all agree oh yeah and then it's North Dakota South Carolina state to uh finish out the non-conference and then you enter into conference play and have yourself a grand all the time but with that in mind and there will be two there will be two uh conference games wedged in between Creighton and Kansas State what's it Michigan State and it will be somebody else Michigan State and Minnesota yeah so Wednesday December 6th three days after you play Creighton you will go to Minneapolis oh that is a rough two games and then four days later Michigan State comes to you so there's that and then obviously then about a week later you travel to uh Kansas State now excuse me is Minnesota going to be good I don't know well Ben Johnson former Husker coach himself there we'll see Minnesota did be you know knock Nebraska out of the Big Ten tournament last year as well that is true um so just a breakdown of the conference schedule here uh home away who wears Nebraska gotta travel um they will let's see they will host Michigan State Purdue and Penn State they do not have to go to East Lansing do not have to go to West Lafayette which is a big one and do not have to go and travel to Happy Valley Penn State in the uh in the in the midst of a coaching change right because they Micah Shrewsbury goes to Notre Dame this is going to be a trivia question by the way Rico I forgot to ask it to you I just worded it wrong Penn State Micah Shrewsbury moves on don't ask me who their new coach is Mike Rhodes is their new coach former VCU Rams Head Coach Mike Rhodes in his first year Penn State lost 11 guys this off season to either graduating or moving on from the program what I was going to ask you is who was the team that Purdue beat in the Big Ten Tournament championship last year Penn State Nittany Lions they ended up getting into the national or the NCAA tournament whooped Texas A M as a 10 seed and then lost by I think three or five to uh number two seed Texas in the in the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament but nonetheless Nebraska avoids traveling to East Lansing a place where they've actually played pretty well in years past um but then also they avoid going to West Lafayette which has never been good for Nebraska basketball and then they avoid going to Happy Valley they will not host these three teams but they will have to travel to Iowa Maryland and Illinois so there's no uh Hawkeyes in PBA this year which might be a little bit disappointing there's no Terrapins in PBA this year and there's no fight in Illini dang it either really like um Maryland they will they will host and visit Minnesota Indiana Wisconsin Rutgers Northwestern Ohio State and Michigan as well so um once again Nebraska avoids traveling to Penn State Purdue Michigan State they will not host uh Iowa Maryland and Illinois at Pinnacle Bank Arena all right let's take a break newcomers so my expectations are wait and see it's a huge experiment in college baseball we talk a lot about the transfer portals it relates to college football even college basketball but the that roster is so limited college baseball the way they they go get guys from Juco they're more Juco guys making an impact in baseball Nebraska's had some impact freshmen year after year um this is I think Garrett England's offense at this point hopefully Josh Karen you know steps up and takes another step forward there outside of those guys those are really the for sure known quantities at this point uh how about this so fall schedule uh Nebraska a lot of stuff happening on September 29th Nebraska baseball will uh play Omaha at Haymarket Park on September 29th that game is part of their fall schedule else else or other other match other games um on October 7th they'll play Cloud County uh Community College and Arkansas how about that it's not Arkansas but not Kansas I'm sorry what is our computer is not set to Spanish um and also all the other words are not correct then um bro so it says at Arkansas verse Cloud County Community College Cloud County is in Kansas yes so you're going to travel to Fayetteville to play someone in Canton why the heck is that what's going on right yeah schedule tournament yeah interesting okay that Nebraska has so there's something there's something similar there's something going on here because then the on three days later on October 10th it says at Arkansas or Kansas Nebraska vs red white series so there's something else going on with this schedule Nebraska's not playing any home games at Haymarket anymore all of the games are in Fayetteville no see I don't like the rules so I just follow I need to exercise Nick is the new Ron Burgundy will get deeper into uh throughout the show um but yeah it's been somewhat quiet but that might be a good thing after uh 16 and 16 year right um I think there's a lot of excitement surrounding this ball club and I uh for I think for good reason they also their conference schedule for the most part somewhat favorable I would view it as and especially their non-con um because they start with programs like Lindenwood like a Florida a m before they have to get into the Creighton Kansas State Minnesota Michigan State which is going to be that that four games in a row at one point yeah it's hard to say there's a very favorable um night at night out it's tough but given what it could have been really it's not that bad so many times Nebraska's had a tough schedule and a pivotal year and again now that the Big Ten schedule is ever easy but given how important this year is for not just these players and this coach but really this program trying to spark something you could have done a lot worse you've done a lot worse in other programs before so this is a massive opportunity is that Edie gone yet no no but listen you've got to understand the landscape of college basketball right now the landscape of college basketball is not Center dominated now here's something I I we kind of mentioned on the on uh WTF which is going to be happening tonight eight tonight but listen one of the things was we talked about the transition of and we've even talked about it here on the crossover yeah the transition of out of a sinner-dominated league to a very guard-dominated yeah rule changes guards and wings as opposed to absolutely now is it possible that a shift is starting to happen again where now jokic is starting to show that dominant Center play is still an effective aspect of the game with range I was just trying to say from stretchability the ability to shoot yeah is is I think just becoming more and more but but the issue had been everybody looking at a wimpin yamba style a kristaps porzingis style those those long those Chet Holmgren likes and forgot that back to the basket basketball can still be a dominant aspect of the game is that as well especially in college where the lane is still a little narrower than the NBA you still have room for your edies your Bay Cuts Hunter Dickinson's kind of in between he has a little bit of the range but definitely not the passing ability um they're just so few Elite big men in college that they can run wild versus the NBA yeah it's it's difficult almost impossible to stop jokic but he's one of a kind but the thing is what I'm saying is this is why Edie had to stay yes because he understood the landscape is not a straight back to back back to the basket short mid mid-range 10 12 feet jumper abilities he has to work on that so what you you'll probably see is they'll have some probably pop action for him that they've been working on to show that he has the capability this is why a lot of those dominant sinners like what was the center oh the one that came at uh Kentucky no a Yukon did a little bit yeah no go did he hit a couple threes in the NCAA tournament big spot she boy never really never and he wasn't a good enough Defender to make up for it yeah that's what makes me really I mean intrigued by um rink Mast yeah is because he does have the ability to shoot but then also he he hopefully has the size and he's built the size after he got done playing International ball for a little bit here to to maybe bulk up a little bit where Josiah Alec he's going to be your I believe your typical
