welcome everyone to the home of the Wisconsin Badgers Barry Alvarez field at historic Camp Randle Stadium where we are looking forward to a fantastic battle there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the back the Western Michigan Broncos taking on a team from the Big 10 the Wisconsin Badgers for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis David Pollock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going and the Broncos will get us underway with the opening kickoff and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so the Wisconsin Badgers offense will have the first possession of the game and all eyes on this man as he takes the field the defense knows they're going to try to throw him the football and it probably won't matter guys oh but the defense reefe will be locked in he will see double coverage they will know where he's at on every single snap Jesse or else you will get beat quick fast and in a hurry one of the re receivers in the country guys where if it's man coverage he open Zone coverage he's open if he's double covered he's open throw that guy the ball halfway there on first down it's second and five the inside hand off got the first down and still on his feet and he's brought down after a nice game really good looking run right there he reminds me of one of the greatest Wisconsin players of all time Heisman Trophy winner Ron a teammate of mine with the New York Giants and he was so good at being patient and setting up blocks this guy shows that patience as well he really helps out the running game because he's not in a rush he just takes his time and carbs his way through the defense we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into long runs after picking up a couple it's second and eight now they're going to throw it got it on the outside it's Paulie and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short game I really like the slot receiver and I understand he's not the biggest guy in the world but he just runs really good routes and he's always under control he can run option routes he can run double moves he does a great job cutting and he's dangerous after the catch nice weapon to have work in the middle of the right down the middle it's caught down field knocked down immediately but a big gain down to the 45 third down a lot of times it comes down to not necessarily who's the most open who do you trust the most no it's not about the x's and the O's it's about the jimmies and the Joe's and when my guy's better than you and I get you matched up out wide and I know I trust you I'm finding you looking for a gap it's meoi he's dropped by behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well the linebacker showing you read and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football to the line of scrimmage and forced the tfl last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 they'll keep it on the ground and a decent gain there before the defense makes a stop hey five to six yards a pop I don't know guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock here comes the seventh play of this opening drive they've moved it well but now facing third down back to pass it's van Dy he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete and the Badgers will punt this one away he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep punt goes out of bounds and a really nice job as they stick them deep in their own end they'll mark it around the 10 so Western Michigan's offense will have its first possession of the game one way to the explosive capabilities he has on the outside is be physical with him and this dude will do that he will do that and you don't see a lot of offenses take the top off this D because of this guy roaming around in the middle of the field he is a true center fielder so this receiver is going to have to make plays I just does such a great job of getting guys on the ground a lot of people are in position but he makes plays so him versus a dynamic wide receiver on the outside will be a great match up the Roar of the crowd trying to fuel this defense to keep them pinned in their own end from the gun they'll try to impose their running game follows that surge up ront he's got five out to the 13 and runs like that are like body blows in a boxing match four five sixy gains early turn into 20 30 40 yd gains later they really wear down defenses and they test their physicality this crowd bringing the energy and noise early they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw brought to the ground but not before getting enough for the first down well we knew coming into this game that field position was going to be massive they had their backs against the wall in their own opening drive but a really nice job there on the Run third down getting some Breathing Room moving the sticks the Broncos have it with a first and 10 touch pass on the Run good solid determined run there they'll Mark him down at the 27 well you got to give the defense a lot of credit on this play because they were doing a nice job understanding who had the football and where they were so a nice job by the defense rallying around that ball carrier and now not giving up the first down kept it on the ground on first down let's see what they do on second looking to pass it's wolf he makes the connection at the 42 but he got 15 yd on the play when these wide receivers work the middle of the field so much of this is feel understanding where the holes are in the zone or understanding how to get leverage on a man and these wide receivers are dangerous nowadays because they do it so fast and see that so quick and make those plays over the middle and the Broncos are on the Move they'll ride the running back and leave it with him pass the sticks and he may get more fin run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early he'll do it himself and the stiff arm was strong but the defense was stronger and they sto him for a short game yeah and it's a nice job by this defense understanding listen that QB is a threat and they're going to run all kinds of options and he's going to run the football they were dialed in and got that supper to the ground on second down will they go back to the ground game the pull and throw off the RPO he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your player times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down they'll try to pick it up on the ground the Broncos will move the sticks well they needed two yards to get that first down that's exactly what they got great job of execution no secret about it just got to be physical get a hat on a hat low man wins all the cliches to get that third down in short this crowd going to try to make life miserable for these guys they'll see if they can find some Running Room on the right here he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive if he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play to the air it's wol makes to grab on the left and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up offenses don't like being in this situations they don't like having little success on first and second down because now you know I got to pass the football I got to air it out makes me really predictable so let make sure you take care of the football and find those plays you really like a third and long coming up here he can't make the catch had it right in his hands and it'll be fourth down nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion they'll send out the kicker here looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt it is as he puts three on the board and that'll put the first points of the game on the board it's three to nothing I'll tell you this is not an easy place to play on the road especially at night time this crowd they get loud that's the way it's been so far but they have a nice drive to open it up they're able to execute they put themselves in field goal range knock it through the uprights they did exactly what they needed to do taking a three nothing lead here early on the road that's impressive they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last [Applause] drive from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit from the shotgun now here's an inside G good blocking good running pick up of six the 30 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four quarterback on the keeper they get him on the ground but not before he gets it up for the first down all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on a defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this if they're going to be successful on offense it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little cre and he can make yards for it halfway there on first down it's second and [Applause] five from the shotgun the inside G creating some space getting just enough good blocking and they've got it up to the 47 yd line I think you run that play on second down knowing it's going to make third down easier you're not trying to hit a home run you don't a big play right now now you know third down everything's on the table everything's available High success rate will they keep it on the ground again here on third down they'll try to run for it runs through the tackle he's got first down yardage as they move it to the 44 well the offense is in a really nice Rhythm right now it seems like no matter what they're dialing up they're getting positive yards and it just feels so good as a play caller when you know on first down you can get yards like that around and handing yeah and on the other side you're scratching your head going what the heck can I do here you got to find something the defense has got to find a way to create some momentum whatever they're doing right now it's not working so you got to keep going through that play sheet and maybe find something a little bit different that can give this offense something to think about first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it right now he's doing some damage on this defense I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three using his legs it's malusi oh he gave him the limp leg defense makes a stop but the chains move in it's first and goal from the eight well it just seems like everything is working for the offense on this drive another nice game this time on the ground the Badgers are threatening on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer I I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him on to the Run make them know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively theyve pushed it ahead to the four they'll try to cash in on second and goal they'll switch it up here and look to throw he snares it in the end zone touchdown Wisconsin and wouldn't I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in the Rhythm nice start for this offense lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point makes it seven to three they Mark 78 yd down the field and they cap the drive with a four yd touchdown pass the kickoff unit about to go to work looking for blockers nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Western Michigan has it back as they send the offense onto the field the give to the back slams into the pile he'll get one to the 17 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking to throw it's wolf throwing rights it in and they were looking for a chunk play and they got it the explosive picks up more than 30 well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at him see if they can turn this drive into points they've got it first and 10 at the 50 looking to move it through the air quickly to the tight end and he's able to shed one tackling that's a pretty good pickup that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep that's exactly right find the guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my match up get it to him let him do the rest with Jet Sweep pass looking for room at the 30 and he's brought down after a nice game I love that play call and I love the timing of the pre-nap motion because the quarterback was able to get to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to use his speed nice job with the pre-nap motion and time they'll throw it on first down quickly complete and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one nice job there good timing between the QB and the wide receiver executing that out rout [Applause] and the Broncos have taken it inside the 20 looking for a crease it's Buckley finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride and they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got enough push there on that run play to pick up the first the Broncos will snap it on First and 10 right back to the well and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop [Applause] both teams wanted to establish the run and they have done exactly that in the first quarter they are lined up and ready to go and get things started here in the second going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone little touch pass to the receiver and he's going to score touchdown Broncos they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point puts him up by a field goal so a drive there of 84 yard [Applause] from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 and Wisconsin has its offense back on the field there wasn't much need to throw it around on that last drive for the touchdown Jesse they got it done running the ball and David I don't think you have to overthink this thing if they can't stop you running it why would you stop handing it on just keep at it here on this drive well and if I'm the defense I'm making some changes I'm bring more big bodies I'm playing more aggressive towards the line of scrimmage I am not going to let them have that kind of drive again second down coming up takes a hand off it's maloi and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down Wisconsin's had a long list of great running backs but those Big Fellas up front that's a pipeline to pro football unbelievable Joe Thomas will be proud C in the way just physical they always can block the Run game so well and they're going to establish them every game Wisconsin plays they're going to run the football he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple everybody talks about DBS they talk about dropping in coverage and not being physical that DB begs to differ great tackle coming up playing physical like a linebacker after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 looking down field it's van Dy he's looking deep oh he toast the coverage got it deep down field and he'll take it all the way they couldn't bring him down touchdown Badger and what nice play design you get your speed s you put him in the slot usually get a better match up and then what do you do you fade him towards that sideline run a go nice ball thrown out why he just runs underneath it and just too much speed couldn't catch him gets in the end zone for [Applause] six ling up to add [Applause] another and the extra point is good and it's a fourpoint lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finish the drive with a 64 yd scoring toss about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll start the return inside his SP he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Western Michigan offense ready to go back to work the give on the inside pits up the first first down still moving and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up well he was able to gash him on that PL you just give this guy one inch one little crease he puts his foot in the ground and he gets North fast and this set of downs gets started from the 33 first and 10 they're getting this guy lathered up and the ball comes out what a disastrous play the offense looks as if they fell on the fumble and they'll keep the ball man what a break great job following on the football great job having some awareness the running back coughed it up but teammates there to pick him up follow the football listen it's lucky but it's good job by the offense oh they are breathing a sigh of relief after that recovered fumble going up top oh he gets down field for the big catch found a bunch of room and got it to the 44 yd line man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different and the Broncos getting set on First and 10 wide out in motion on the run it's Buckley oh it's a fumble oh the offense very fortunate to fall on that football man those are back Breakers defensively and wait just a second the officials going to take a second look at this one and you know the standard is indisputable video evidence and the officials will change the call to the air it's wol they get to him as he throws you're not getting him on the ground still on his feet they get him down with this offens is set up first and goal from the nine well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game and that big Gainer on the last one has him ready to go from inside the 10 fast motion from the offense quarterback touch pass from the Jet Sweep a strong attack and wrap up from the junior well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain coach said don't never go broke taking a profit take what's there take the positive yards and never complete you can't hear yourself think on Third and goal try to get the edge with a quick touch pass touchdown Western Michigan and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board and that's why this running back is so dangerous it's not him off the football but he's a weapon in the passing game you see his his ability to catch it turn up field make people miss and find the end zone getting set for the point [Applause] after and the extra point puts them up by a field goal they March 72 [Applause] yds on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Wisconsin def will come back on the field to jump around a bit looking for room it's maloi and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go that back had nowhere to go the defensive line ate up the blocks but how about the linebackers swarming in coming in and making a great play on the ball car got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 out of the gun they'll run it inside finds a little bit of space gets three to the 22 and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and livening his carries and that last run leaves him with a third down will they keep it on the ground back to pass it's van Dy throws to the tight end it's caught and the explosiveness the big gerain gets it to the 49 yd line man this offense is so dangerous ree they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels and the Badgers moving quickly to the line leaves it with the running back able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down when you're a defense it is stop the run first that is your first responsibility it makes the whole game easy and right now they got it going on the ground the defense is going to have to change something up these little tiny Dink and dunk Dink and dunk you keep doing this they'll go all the way down the field on you so you might want to get a little bit more aggressive got it up for the first really good surge for this offense they move the chains and he's got it at the 34 man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more the Badgers are flying down the field he wants to throw getting nowhere to go and the ball is loose Scoops it up still alive ball man and this is why you practice Five Points of pressure with the football you cannot put the ball on the ground doesn't matter how many Defenders are around you or how hard you get hit you cannot turn the football over and expect to win games second down after the offense recovered its own fumble he leaves it with his back just a solid stop by this sophomore seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down looking to throw needs a chunk play fires to the right he's got an open man and that won't quite be enough for the first down as he's knocked down just short of the sticks well this offense is given a lesson right now on how to fight through adversity because first and second down was ugly but they come up with that huge completion to Now set up a manageable fourth down opportunity to keep this drive alive and it looks as if they're going to try a field goal this is not a straight on kick a 42 y from the right hatch and this one splits the uprights and after the three spot guys were all tied up well the head coach decided to play it safe on Fourth and inches and try his field goal team out there and his field goal kicker just made him look like a pretty smart guy all tied up in just about set to kick it away and he's coming out of the end zone I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 going to run it it's Buckley and he won't quite get there but boy after that pick up just a few inches to go for the first an array of possibilities here man when I can run the football like that on first down and create second and Ines and stay way ahead of the sticks and and be in a position now where I can throw the football or run I will have a lot of success on the offensive side of the football fires to the right he makes the catch he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down just outstanding execution continuing to work his way back through the football yeah and everything about this route looks vertical The Comeback it looks like it's a go I'm thinking speed and then he sets it down QB puts the ball in the money and he makes the play The Freshman able to get home with the sack the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned back second down now after the sack back to throw it's wolf fires a b and now it's picked off God Brom on the return touchdown Wisconsin and this defense coming out with points of their own what an interception return DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six he these guys can play offense too now look at this I show you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back brother now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and will be stopped at the 17 guys we're about to get another look at this Western Michigan offense from the gun they'll try the middle uses a Nifty move to work his way to the 24 you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three he'll keep it himself they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one he tried to make something out of nothing but there was really nothing he could do on that play and I hope offensively that's not going to make them quit on this option play that that's a scheme that really puts the defense in a bind if I were them I wouldn't let that play stop them from trying to run it later in this game looking for a man it's wolf got the back over the middle and he was just a couple of steps away from taking that one even further after the catch the magic bean is spinning out of control already over 200 yards in the first half yeah they're being aggressive offensively throwing the football trying to take advantage of this defense on the back end they've got their quarterback right now in a group quick pass on the jet motion and he's able to bounce off one t for a solid pickup all right so not a home run play for the offense but I do like the creativity and I like how they're going to stress this defense and do it in less conventional ways line getting set on second down from the shotgun the hand off to the back he tried to find some Running Room but they get him stopped great job by the defense everybody fir ball hit their guys holding their gaps running through the football nowhere to go Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down they'll try to move the chains on the ground they convert on third down as he gets it to the 46 yd line and this offense is clicking everything's moving and the guy carrying the football I mean he is carrying the Rock like this is a guy that's he's setting his tone for this game creating some balance on this offense this offense is going to be a handful yeah David I love to sit here and say well the offensive coordinator is just one step ahead of his counterpart across the field that's not it right now his offensive line is establishing the line of scrimmage and you mentioned the back he right now is running with authority on this drive oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running [Applause] attack quick pass on the Fly motion gets it past to marker wrestled to the ground after picking up the first down I just love the play call you're getting a fast player out in the open field and it's enough to get you a first down first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning we've reached the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the half the Broncos with the first and 10 scanning the field it's wolf lets it Fly and his throw is incomplete the quarterback there just trying to go to his primary target and they're just not on the same page [Applause] here comes the offense on second [Applause] down he's looking to throw with the catch it's Buckley and that defense doesn't allow a cut back and they get him out of bounds a game listen running backs are not just running backs anymore you're going to be a wide receiver in today's football and a great job sneaking out of Back Field getting the football letting them get some positive yardage this is the type of play that decides games are you tough enough to convert third and short from the [Applause] 30 oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down yeah and third and to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board and for the second time tonight they'll try out the field goal kicker and the holder will place it down on the left Hash a 47 yd try coming that is no good and they couldn't cut into the lead it's still a seven-point game and Wisconsin has its offense back on the field they kicked a field goal on the last Drive Jesse they've got the lead don't make a dumb mistake but maintain your aggressive play calling yeah no doubt and I think it's the play caller right now just taking a look at that script he's got in front of him and finding out where are my Playmakers who can we take advantage of on this defense to get a touchdown here yeah and just keep moving the ball down the field just execute a little bit better in the Red Zone there's no need to panic we're moving the football and we got the lead they've got it first and 10 at the 42 back to throw it's van Dy fires to the wide out good quickness to grab it off the bals and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end they're in the Red Zone first and 10 from the 20 trying to cap this drive with a pass and it's caught touchdown Bader you know quarterbacks and receivers they develop confidence inist as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page he will try to tack on one more and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they Clos the deal with a 20yd pass for Six so they got the touchdown now going to put it in the hands of their defense to finish off this half he'll bring it back from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Western Michigan has it back as they send the offense onto the field running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them the football on this drive you're down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts to the pressure really really mounts good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this squad going into half time let's see what they've got on second [Applause] down misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air got his a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half and the Broncos will line it up on First and 10 to the air it's wol makes a connection good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch it's really tough on offenses when defenses know what you got to do you got to pass the football they're in man coverage how about the receiv understanding where the first down is he smells it he goes and gets it time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half going up top on first down complete downfield they'll use a timeout right before halftime maybe time for one or two more plays and they'll send out the field goal unit from the left has he'll try to bend in a 37 y it's good e so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer looking for an alley from inside his own 10 he'll be brought down and that's the final play of the half that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with a halim update thanks guys looks like we've got a terrific atmosphere there in Madison and it' be easy to say these two offenses are glad we've hit halftime based on their respective performances it would also be accurate turnovers and sacks have told the story so far and you got to believe the play calling has been the issue right time to shred those game plans and just get back to basics with that said let's send it back to the guys at Camp Randle and the Badgers will kick it off to the second [Applause] half and he'll just take a knee in this drive will start at the 25 the Western Michigan offense ready to go back to work they ought to have some confidence based on that first half performance but they certainly can't let up in a game like this and and I think this possession is really really important and I say that because they had a lot of success but they're still losing because the defense can't stop anyone they need to set the tone here in the second half that's exactly that David you got to create momentum here early in the second half you only do that by going out marching the ball down the field and scoring right away trying to put pressure on the opposing offense they give it to him again he's drop behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three what a great play by the lback you talk about filling a hole defensive line does their job he comes in the sit out sir if every Journey begins with a step this offense needs to step into a third down conversion and then try to turn it into some scores and fast trying to get to him and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense yeah and man you talk about being down at the half what's one thing I need to do I got to protect my quarterback in the first series here now you're getting your quarterback hit and taken to the ground this offense has to protect that dude at all costs the Broncos will bring the punt team onto the [Applause] field he will signal for the fair Catch and take it just inside the 35 the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm moved the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make because they got to stop the bleeding right now it's a draw pry good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 well this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running down hill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage early come to the line at the 42 facing a third and short wide receiver shows motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down and little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the inside guys we're about to get another look at this Western Michigan offense from the gun and they'll try to impose their will he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple great job by the whole defense for how about the little B defensive back throwing his face in the fan I ain't scared I don't just cover guys I make tackles after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 wide receiver now comes in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short well in that down in distance you're probably expecting them to throw it way down the field to get the first instead they go push pass and they didn't catch the defense off guard and even though that was a big close play David he still didn't have enough yards to get it well and catch me off guard is relative that's what you would say the offensive player I would say listen we're playing a little bit deeper because we're not going to give up a first down we react to the short stuff and obvious that's a quick easy pass from the offense rally up make the play Live to fight another down and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs and the Broncos have it with a first and 10 they'll give it to him again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one linebackers in today's football obviously guys have gotten smaller they got space more cover fast guys out of the but how about this linebacker coming down hill and making a physical tackle in the hole lost one on that last one it's second and [Applause] 11 on the run it's Buckley into a massive giant bodies we'll call it a one yd gain to the 24 man that D tackle is a freaked athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness better find the ear plugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down to the air it's wolf unloads to the right it's complete that's the kind of play that can really get you going as they get it out to the 36 and with that when he's now over three bills for the game and there's two reasons why ree he's made good decisions and he's been accurate throwing the football all game one the Broncos look to keep this drive [Applause] humming gets it out quickly I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five and it is when we start getting those long yard situations offense walks to the line for play number seven of the drive it's a draw tackled but he has a first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown RS [Applause] hand off from the gun and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense they got nothing on the last play it's second and [Applause] 10 takes a hand off it's Buckley he has the first and still on his feet good pick up there they'll move the chains in their set up at the 41 and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down [Applause] Mark quick strike complete and this one will be stopped for No Gain he's just winning that match up in the slot every time and when you put him in the slot Reese he's closer to the quarterback it's an easier throw we can run in we can run out and really take advantage of his versatility of the guy that slot position long drive continues as the offense keeps working the ball down the field he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball Carri and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources on line comes free make in the back field for a tackle for once and this offense just can't afford not to get the first down here already trailing big and the clock is not their friend and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion what you do you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back we'll get some water in celebrate fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and wiconsin has its offense back on the field last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that put your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think d predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels I think tackling is about effort most of the time it's about how much passion how much physicality you can bring to get your guy on the ground refuse not to get him on the ground that's not a big back you got to get that guy on the ground you can't let him pick up an extra couple yards and stay ahead of the sticks turns it on Midfield hit the gas kid wide open the head touchdown was and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house huge play it's so nice to have guys that can create these explosive plays like this you hand it to him he can do the rest look at the speed look at the elusiveness get into the end zone nice run [Applause] lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead only took two plays to find the End Zone on that driving gashing them on the touchdown run finished it off just about set to kick it [Applause] away returner will field it and try to get some field position didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Western Michigan has it back as they send the offense onto the field they hope to be able to cash in this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to start it with the first play you need to be successful and productive on that first play and it gets you in less predictable situations no doubt to and don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board here after the productive first down play it's second and six back to throw it's wol got his man quickly steps out of bounds but it will be enough for a first down new set of downs after that completion looking for a physical attack from the gun squirts across the 30 to the 32 a pick up of five I like this guy as a running back because he could run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all halfway there on first down it's second and five he's looking to throw he looks that one in nicely to the 43 yd line and a first down for this offense and a nice job working the middle of the field I think it's so important to defense is honest and you can't just Dink and dunk outside you got to work the middle great job finding this wide receiver over the middle of the field and the Broncos are moving quickly down the field moving the running back forcing the defense to [Applause] adjust and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 and listen they didn't get the huge playoff of that but but I love the ability to show that and be able to show plays off of that that jet motion and just show them you're willing to complete it but you know get those little chunks at a time it doesn't have to always be a home run that's still a successful play quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver they able to get him stopped just shy of the first down mark and this offense just has to find a way to convert this third down or else they are really in trouble they'll try to run for it at the 35 he's open oh look out there he goes touchdown Western Michigan and once he found some daylight it was time to make a house call man I am a great play caller when I can hand it to guys like that and he can go that far to the house big plays showed you a little bit of vision showed you a little bit of burners when he kicked it in gear and got the long touchdown run lining up for the pat hit that one with some aggression for the point after an 84 yd drive there and man did he find a way to close with that 48 yd run for six almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown on the move from inside is five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back found a little bit of Running Room knocked down at the 24 after a pick up of four it's the emmo of this offense and they really put a lot on the offensive line to go out and really try and establish their dominance and their assertiveness and they've done a good job of that early in this game running the football solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six on the Run it's van Dy grabs it in the middle he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down it's definitely the wide receiver's job to create space right so whether you're running a go or you're running a hitch like this right here I got to find a way to push off legally or just create a little bit of space to get some positive yards on Third and short they'll try to pick it up on the ground here they get him on the ground but it's a first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive the Badgers will have it first and 10 he's going to pass pulls it in it's green he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down Slants against man that wide receiver has to win right now right now at the line scrimmage against that DB play in man coverage quarterback timing with the wide receiver put it on the money wide receiver's probably still going to get hit too and got to hold on to that thing he'll pull it on the re oh he just handled it poorly and it's a fumble and the defense got it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for itso and how about this defense coming up with the play you want make your quarterback a runner fine we're going to stop him and take the ball and they were prepared right this is a defense that looks like they studied film and they knew that this offense was going to attack them with the running quarterback on designed runs so great job by the defense recognizing what was happening getting to the football and bet yet creating a takeway quickly complete you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play this quarterback right now is in a Groove and doing a nice job in pre-nap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right got a little work done on first down now back to the line the playaction fake fires to the middle wide open down field and this defense is a half a beat behind they just can't quite keep up they've got it down to the 21 I just love the job this offensive line is doing in this game communicating pre snap they know where the pass rush is coming from and they're working their single and double teams and not giving up any ground just look how clean that pocket was for the quarterback to throw from give to the running back listen defense is about energy it's about passion it's about physicality they need a little bit more of that get the guy on the ground you can't let guys break tackles what could have been set up in a long yard situation now it becomes an easier situation because you couldn't get him on the ground halfway there on first down it's second and [Applause] five hand off from the shotgun he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three as we come to the end of the period Wisconsin has the lead they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game summary when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter now the play fake throws to the wide out he CAU it he was working his way toward that goal line they'll stop him at the two after the big play up top they absolutely had to have that third down to keep any glimmer of hope a lot and defensively that's exactly what I want make you get to third down the clock is your enemy multiple possession lead that is right where I want this offense they'll use the running game on first and goal and he's going to take it to the house touchdown Western Michigan that big score makes the end of this game very interesting no doubt the offense got what they needed more work to do but you had to get this part accomplished first they'll go for two here and try to climb within a field goal eight quick touch pass to the receiver he's in there for the two-point conversion and now they're within a field goal so that scoring Drive took only six plays and finished to deal with the short touchdown run from the two kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 and Wisconsin has its offense back on the field as it turns out the fumble on that last Drive set up the touchdown David and there's no bigger stat in football than turnovers you turn the football over they turn it into points Jesse that is not a recipe for Success good news though they get another chance right they can make amends with this drive right here that's all that's important you've got to execute and you got to lock in after the first down completion it's second and short out of the gun the inside get they'll Mark him down at the 37 it's a 10yd gain when the offense can run the football and you can feature a guy like this that will get more yards in this block that you can really depend on hangs on to the football like it makes offense super easy especially down the stretch when you want to eat that clock and you want to possess the football just nice to have that kind of guy they're going to go right back to him on first down you want to make sure to maximize those those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three all right so I know the defense is going to be aggressive right they got their stop they forced a third down how aggressive does the offense want to be in response because if I throw the football get a first down I can run this clock almost out this defense has to make a choice but this offense how aggressive do you want to be third and long and he'll try to throw for it receiver looks it in it's complete and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop a nice job by the QB there timing out that drag throw it's Zone coverage so he's got to make sure he gets it to his receiver in a window to allow him to catch the ball and then turn it up field and the Badgers line up to punt it away they'll look to pin him deep signal goes into the air and he makes the fair catch at the 10 the Western Michigan offense ready to go back to work they took it down the field for a touchdown the last time they had it and now an opportunity to take the lead in this football game so they got got to be feeling good they did their part score your defense does your part Jesse this offense keep that momentum I would say stay aggressive here and just keep doing what you were doing on that last drive right well whatever was working for you just go back keep using those same play makers to allow you to go down here and score a touchdown quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver he is going nowhere stop at the line of scage the first thing you have to do to make these players successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I got to get my speed in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackle that guy for a l to throw it's wolf using the quick game really nice job to get it past the sticks pick up the first down at the 30 it's tough on the defense there third down your in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of Dage off the play fake on first down wants to throw and the pressure was all over him in the blink of an eye often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on to the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass throw a bit longer against this athletic seven on defense it's going to be tough after not getting a thing done on first down it's second and long from the 24 they'll run it out of the shotgun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and you can tell that play went nowhere from the start it was definitely a great play by that Defender oh yeah he got the back F so quick the running back had absolutely no chance ring as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down looking down field and he needs a bunch right on the money to the outside he dragged the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get if you like the stats and I know you do he's over 400 yards yeah if they win this game he's getting a game ball there's no doubt about it this guy has been on fire from the very start of this footb game he's just been throwing bullets all over the field he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit they'll have another opportunity to extend this lead after punting last time David and it's important to put that punt behind you over let it go get back to what you were doing that built this lead yeah and defense obviously they won a few Downs uh that last drive so we got to put them on their heels here maybe mix up a few Personnel groupings and try to show them some pictures they haven't seen yet able to pick up a couple on that last one it's second and eight from their own 27 running back searching for a hole surges across the 30 out to the 32 a 6yd run yeah a great job by the offensive line seeing the blitz picking it up and then it's on the running back running back finds the hole gets a little bit of a crease makes a nice run out they're facing a third down they'll try to pick it up on the ground R balls out they recover their own fumble somehow who knows how they got that thing back I don't know if it was luck or aggression or just a two in his bals but at least they've got the ball back one thing I do know ree this running back has got to do a better job with ball security you cannot turn the football over and expect to win this game they're very lucky they were able to jump on top of that one they're able to put a stop to that return right at the 30 yd line guys we're about to get another look at this Western Michigan offense that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they' like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line they'll give it to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one defensively you live by the Blitz and you die by the blitz that time they dialed it up into the Run play the linebacker able to make a nice tack these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down dropping back it's Wolf coming after him got his man down the middle that's a kind of play that can really get you going as they have a first down at the 43 well this guy has been a weapon all game long they've lined him up all over the field he's run all different types of routes the defense has not been able to cover him and he's got now over 150 receiving yards the Broncos come to the line with a new set of downs off the play fake on first down to throw and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in the incompletion leads to Second and [Applause] 10 wide receiver coming across in motion touch pass on the Run just a one yd gain leav him with third and n they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one they want to just keep throwing it unloads to the wide out not in locked step there with the receiver and now such a tough situation late in this game you're trailing but now it's fourth in Long like thing if it's Fourth and short this makes it even more difficult you got to have something died up you feel really great about and the Broncos send out the punt unit he'll try to really get into this one pretty solid coverage there and they'll stop him at the 26 and Wisconsin has its offense back on the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah the Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here one yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive they ran it on first down now on second on the ground it's meoi and he's knocked down but not before moving the chains and this guy really has the work for today he's made plays when his offense has needed them the most he's a guy who's reliable they know they can turn around give him the football and he'll go make things work out they're going to need him to finish this game he has to continue playing well after that big run [Applause] there might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again man it's so nice to have a guy that you can depend on like this offense is built around him for a reason just a a good running back you can see South doesn't dance picks up positive yards breaks tackles he's just a really good player and that's why this offense runs through got eight on first down now looking at a second and two from the gun running back on the move draged down at the 46 after a pick up of five and the first down well the defense didn't Blitz they didn't have everybody in gaps and the offensive line took advantage at the point of attack getting some push open up a hole and the offense ripping off a nice run there the Badgers are rolling down the [Applause] field quick completion to the right they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down now I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option rout and soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbx caugh behind the line it's py and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the spot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched up on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let him make plays they'll run it to keep the clock moving got the first down and more and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play well on offense you have got to love the way your offensive line is playing in this game they're getting tremendous movement Up Front Climbing in the second level and really giving these backs and ball carriers a lot of room to run all game long comes out throwing on first down gets it out fast they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down Hey listen on offense just take what the defense gives you quarterback looks out wide he sees the DB way off of the receiver throw the easy hitch pass you'll take that completion clock continues to run and they'll be happy to wind it all the way down before they snap it looking to throw it's van d got his man they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 using him out of the slot he has just been Unstoppable and I love putting Dynamic athletes in the slot that I can move around that I can put in motion that I can I can make him go in or out I can put him off the ball so you can't get hands on him and they've really featured this guy today looking to go up top on first down safe completion on the screen he's down at the one and they almost had the touchdown pass on that one one more yard on this second down might just put an exclamation point on this one slams ahead and you can forget running in the middle against this defense the offense will quickly use a time out well two things you're thinking about here offensively is one you want to take as much time off the clock but two you really want to score another touchdown to make this a two possession game you could almost ice it if you can find a way to get in the and makes his way into the end zone touchdown Badger and you know late in the games offenses sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were aggressive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to game away P unit on the field and the extra point extends the lead to double figures at 10 they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they capped it off with a one yd Pune about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out Western Michigan has it back as they send the offense onto the field that last Drive fizzled out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do to you and attack them clock is still running and they have to get everybody lined up dropping back it's wol finds his tight end moves up to the 34 yd line give him a 10yd pickup apparently some confusion as the offense calls the timeout it's their first of the half he'll come out throwing on first down good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the loss ball still on the 34 after the incompletion let's see if they throw it again on second and 10 he's looking to throw fires to the wide out makes the grab they get him down at the 49 but not before he picks up 15 quick timeout call by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible off the play fake on first down to throw can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down they've already got a bunch of sacks on them today and another quarterback pressure this offense has to try to find a way to get the ball out a little bit quicker to protect their quarterback a little bit more whether it's screens whether it's draws whether it's rolling your quarterback something has to change for this offense to protect the back a little bit better man how loud is it in this building this is crazy this these fans are going absolutely nuts and I used to love when the fans got involved and I'm on defense because it messes with the snap count it messes with the communication and it can really rattle on offense big third down as the crowd Gets behind this defense pocket starts to collaps working on the right he will step out of bounds but not before the up and a first down for this offense hey you know the defense here in this situation with a huge lead they've got to anticipate that this offense is going to be trying to throw the ball to the sideline so they've got to work different coverages to try to force the quarterback to go over the middle of the field with the football looking downfield it's Wolfe gets it out quickly and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short game clock's running and they'll try to get to the line warped speed for second down he spikes it clock stops as they try to rally late third and long coming from the 27 yard line you can make a field goal from here just don't take a negative play from the gun wants to pass spits it out to the back complete offense will use a timeout with 28 ticks remaining this is like he's orchestrating a video game out there I mean he's right at 500 yards he's a step or two or three ahead of any coverage he sees or 12 re I mean this defense just doesn't have an answer for him they've blitzed him they've played Z coverage they try to man up these receivers but the end result is always the same this guy right now is Unstoppable operating in the Red Zone here on second down he's looking to throw didn't have much of a choice there but to get rid of it third down in this crowd will pull out a vocal cord to help this defense from the gun wants to pass didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field go range what do you do here down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down lets it go to the end zone can't find his man it'll be incomplete and that is a heartbreaker this late in the game they'll go to the counter play he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first [Applause] down their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in Victory formation and they'll take a knee and watch this clock keep on winding winding it way toward a victory for for
