there Ben how was the weekend good went saw Hamilton yesterday you did how' you how' you like it uh spoiler Aaron Burr wins but he eventually loses by the way that isn't in the play but B and badly yeah and badly uh actually I learned a funny thing yesterday uh Aaron Burr got de so basically was penniless late in his life like a lot of you know politicians who don't really Thrive uh so he marries a rich Widow who's 20 years his Junior as he's old and dying and uh she finds out he's penniless and so she hired Ires a divorce lawyer to divorce him and she hires Alexander Hamilton Jr hilarious rub it in his face wow hilarious and the day his divorce is finalized he dies so not a not a great Final Chapter but I will say this with all due respect to one Alexander Hamilton uh challenging or accepting a duel we say accepting a duel with the vice president of the United States as a father of seven is a questionable decision that that's not the best dad move I've heard there's good parenting that might not be one of them you got to have some priorities and he had yeah right he had some questionable decision uh decisions that he made in his life and a rather bold personality bold but when you have seven kids at home it's not the time to be challenging the vice president of the United States to a duel well he was also the type of Personality not to to Really dive all into this but um had a Kush you know staff gig during the Revolutionary War like the kind of gig that you and I'd be like yeah sure I'll sign up for that that sounds that sounds pretty good why not I'm just if I'm going to desk yeah right I'm typing love it sure yeah pretty good with the written word yeah right and he was trying to get on the battlefield I think that's a certain personality type right there and any who did you enjoy it I saw it earlier in the run I loved it it's an amazing story he was an amazing person it's it's hard to leave not feeling patriotic well and the music's incredible incredible it's so good yeah it's uh there's a reason it became what it became I totally get it that dude Lyn man Miranda is very good he's a genius he is I did not care for the remake of Mary Poppins okay I don't think I saw it but we're not all perfect sure but he did Moana also right oh Moana is so good yeah the music in Moana is so good Brooklyn Heights what's that thing called oh in the Heights in the heights yeah which I actually have not seen so I only saw the movie I haven't seen the play but it's also he's just a great writer he knows how to do that you're a movie guy why are movies adapted musicals adapted to movies always so bad yeah they rarely work out well though I will say I like like Chicago was pretty good I tried to watch it last night and couldn't find it streaming anywhere so I had the same thought that you're on right now um I've liked I like the new Steven Spielberg Westside Story maybe we could do Christian put it down musicals throw it in there oh for what you got Wednesday that will be our least popular draft ever but I'm totally in oh I know UT tons there's a lot of guys secretly riding around listening to musicals with their kids because they can't listen to Big Punisher like Christian put on as we were riding in because of the language so they're listening to uh whatever what's the Hugh Jackman circus oh the greatest showman you mean you mean the only thing I'm allowed to listen to exactly exactly my seven-year-old hey Dad can you put on greatest showman right you know what not since Mary Poppins by the way though here's my here's my not since Mary Poppins has there been a musical that every song is a jam like it's the greatest showman in Mary poppin like I've seen a lot of musicals and there's a dud in there somewhere a skip no skips that like officer krup key song in the Westside Story like I I could take it or leave it you know what I mean I I got you like Mary Poppins every song is good greatest showman as much as I've heard it lately every song is good you like every song okay every song is good I'm I'm with you there's a lot of musicals out there where it's skip on like I'm not a greatest shman fan so you can wait until draft it it didn't do anything for me but I respect if that's your thing and my kids also are big fans of it so any who anyo NE so your weekend was good then which is not true cuz I I'm in the process of moving right so that really stinks um but it's gone smoothly and I've had plenty of help and and then I got to take a break to go to Hamilton which I live a Wonderful Life Would you hire somebody Ben it's a I live in a thousand square foot house I live in a I live in a closet so there's not that much stuff but it's amazing how much you can put in a closet that's what I've learned yeah I know well I'm glad I'm glad you moved that's nice and Hamilton's good right yep it's amazing it's amazing so uh can I confess something before we actually do something productive which I I suppose we could uh I am absolutely the victim of nostalgia and marketing okay and uh I guess I'm I'm not that ashamed to admit it I'm not the type of person who gets new shoes okay I've had my current sonooks actually the olai for like two years they're they're wearing thin and actually with my current lifestyle as a dad they're really not conducive to walking or standing and all that stuff so I went shoe shopping Ben okay and I bought rebok okay pumps or no pumps no no pumps just the like rebok Cas the Casual you know you look like you're going to a tennis match the yeah yeah like I feel like I had this shoe when I was 14 and so I have no idea like Adidas bought Reebok and then spun rebok off in 2022 like the the company that made that shoe when I had when I was 14 and current Reebok is like not the same thing at all some random company bought this logo just because people like me are suckers sure hey I all the time I have no idea if this shoe is any good I know it it gives me more support than my last shoe but it would be impossible to give less but man it took me like 45 seconds to be talked into this shoes I'm glad you found something you happy about I I I'm a sucker for Nostalgia Christian are you old enough to uh buy into Nostalgia at this point and branding like absolutely absolutely I'd like to think myself smart enough to be like I'm going to find the world's perfect shoe yeah Christian Christian was doing uh Margarita Shooters all weekend he set the Salt Lake County record so this happens and if you don't realize it it takes a while to train your voice in radio by the time Friday rolls around your voice is pretty shot until you have worn it down which is why every person's radio voice except for Jake for the first three days of the week last week gets deeper and raspier you're really hard on your voice cuz we are actually not talking at a normal Cadence or level we're talking much louder than you would in Real Life Christian just took over the Saturday show and Saturday was his first day as the full-time host and his voice is going to be shot and for like six months until his voice adapts got to build up to listen as much crap as you both gave me last week for my bizarre sounding voice I'm not letting Christian off the hook Christian did 26 body shots on on uh on Saturday night out at the club celebrating his new show and uh you know what followed it up with nothing but half a dozen mea ladas for breakfast on Sunday and strolls in here with bad voice I'm not going to let him off the hook that's not not something I'm GNA do you say it's because he's getting adjusted to his new show Vault I say it's the quo actually think Christian said he developed cold over the weekend and uh that is actually the explanation for Christian's bad voice how did your show go on Saturday he can't talk thumbs up thumbs up he's got to save his voice for Saturday now all right well any so he's not doing top three stories we not what yeah we're gonna make him do that I'll read him okay I'll read him he's saving this no did he show up to to work today or not then he's did I did I when I sounded like some sort of clown last week did I did I leave ncky Mouse did work yeah you talking about all right Ben did you enjoy the college football weekend I had the most Bronco men and Hall experience I loved it it was the most Bronco game so I had it on I told you I've been moving so I had it on Saturday was taking it in because I wasn't actually get to dedicate three hours to New Mexico versus Montana State boom scoop and score right right away another touchdown driving the ball down the field basically zero passing yards just they found a way to run it great great great defensive scheme well-timed blitzes disguising the blitz I was just like this Bronco rules it was everything Bronco did at BYU to a te like less talented small guys teams hyped really well disciplined it was so Bronco they were up 17 to Zer start to let Montana State creep back in they go into the fourth quarter man they must have been up 18 I think it was and they could out scored 21 to zero in the fourth quarter because Bronco menal kept doing the same thing and the issue was they're less talented so you get late in the game and your less talented guys get tired you're not very deep and the other team which Montana state for in the long run shouldn't be more talented than New Mexico but it was exactly Bronco did at BYU a lot was overly reliant on the two things that he does which is running the ball and getting stops and when those things started to fall apart and they needed to complete a pass and a wide receiver drops it which is exactly what happened on a catch that would have ended the game they didn't have a lot of answers and I just I remembered all of it I remembered man this team is really fundamentally sound watching BYU was Bronco men Hall when I was watching Mexico over the weekend and then oh I want a little bit more because you're blowing game you can't afford to lose right now you need this game and if you win this there's a real chance I know we're thinking way far ahead that you're going bowling like you could get there this year and he just lost some of those games that you can't really justify losing being up by whatever three scores going into the fourth quarter and giving up a 21 to zero run so I had a ton of fun watching it I was both I love Bronco men and Hall and I enjoyed watching it and I was both pain I was also painfully reminded of why so many BYU fans wanted to change sorry for the synopsis of the game I recap the but I I'll take it in a little different direction because I had I had this thought about New Mexico listen New Mexico is awful like he's not inheriting a team he's got like 40 transfers it's awful I mean less than zero and Montana State I don't know you know Ben you're you're familiar with you we're into the Big Sky around here like they've got a ton of support there's there's a lot of reasons that football players go and play for Montana State like really good football players there's not any good football players in New Mexico so I I you know they shouldn't have blown that lead certainly but I don't know they they were never making a Bowl this year that was never in the cards it's it's not going to be in the cards maybe for a couple of years but I was thinking about this Ben because Bronco takes talent and then makes it better because of a lot of the things that you uh you lay out there right um you know discipline and that sort of they even told the story to this point of everyone came in with no numbers and you had to earn your number throughout training camp which is a bronco classic and they put together a little unit of players that got to a sign every weekend who would earn their ability choose he does all that crap for for a reason it's it's the reason at BYU he said he wanted to coach at an academy I mean he's just got a unique he's got a unique way of doing things that doesn't necessarily apply to Ohio State and so at BYU he got the most out of the group of mostly LDS talent that He could put together and you know despite your PTSD about Broncos losses he won a 100 games at be he did he was great he won he probably averaged nine wins he won a lot yeah and then he goes to UVA which I actually thought wouldn't work because of recruiting reasons and that actually turned out not to be the case and what he did was got the most out of kind of the more po Dexter walk the straight line types because that's what succeeds at UVA and that's the type of you know attention that that Bronco can get and New Mexico I don't know what angle he takes because how do you get a player to New Mexico to get the most out of and I will be curious at what angle he goes because the way he should go in my opinion I don't think he's prepared to do he should go the last chance you type route like you're coming to Mexico as long as you have fewer than three felonies then we're going to give you a scholarship and we're going to make this happen and then get the most out of that and I I make jokes but that's that's a great thing you know giving people multiple chances and that sort of thing I think that's why a lot of people like last chance you that show which I've actually never seen but I think that's why people glom on to it because it is an admirable way to go um if you do it you know with The Young Person's best interest at heart in my opinion so would Bronco go that way be like we're gonna take you you're a project we're going to take you and I'm GNA put you through some discipline and this program is going to be good for you and we're going to get the most out of you I wonder if he goes that route um because they got nothing now but how do you recruit to Albuquerque how do you recruit to New Mexico you've got no support you've got no nil no one cares it's it's in a like New Mexico is a beautiful state from but what I can tell Albuquerque is not in the beautiful part okay I have never been well talk to Lloyd about it like Santa Fe apparently is gorgeous you Albuquerque is not better You' have a better ability to speak on this because you were working in the business while this was the case and I was not was Bronco there do you know the entire time Rocky long was there as the time no but he was there in the prime which if you go back and look at New Mexico State they made New Mexico New Mexico excuse me New Mexico made a bowl game five times in a six season run they go four and eight after that run in Rocky long leaves is done and they've just they' made it twice since then and that was 2008 uh was Rocky Longs last year they made two bowl games since then so I mean it's been a disaster but I'd be curious what Rocky's recipe was sure but Bronco was there when that happened and then the question is how relevant is that 20 years later it may not be relevant at all but like eracer is interesting and this is this is kind of a Utah approach like they took a bean pole safety and they envisioned him as a bone crushing safety hybrid linebacker mix thing and he turned out to be incredible you know that's that's Vision that's coaching you know yeah so maybe you find that maybe you go that route so I don't I don't know I'm really curious to see what what Bronco does but nobody who you know like you go to UVA you're looking for a I don't know Ben a sixf figure type job out of out of college and that's kind of your priority because you're going to have to work really hard like that's not New Mexico no Yu is similar and then you throw in the religious Factor there are other reasons to want to go to that University and listen to Bronco in New Mexico you know what's your Edge yeah I guess the question I can you be can you build a team and he did a lot he did this a lot of BYU where you are the best offer a kid has the question is how often is New Mexico the best offer a kid has that's how good that K right and then how good is that kid is a real question the best off if you're the if you're a BYU and you're a kid's best offer that is a better player than New Mexico is my best offer right if BYU has offered you generally not always there are kids who didn't have any other offers but generally you've probably got three or four other offers if you're at New Mexico getting an offer you might exclusively only have FCS offers and then can you build a team of 80 plus scholarship players that only have FCS deals elsewhere and they're off offering you a full ride and $10,000 in nil because there's some billionaire in New Mexico who wants to fund the team and that's your best offer and then is that good enough to win seven games consistently in in in the Mountain West I don't I get your point and I I agree with it I suppose but I I don't like the comparison to BYU because I don't think I think BYU is a unique case they they get players they have no business getting and they have to take players they have no business taking so your comparison of your bottom line BYU scholarship being comparable to New Mex you know I don't know if it's comparable to anybody frankly yeah I think that's fair so but otherwise yeah I I I certainly get what you're saying uh I mean other college football out there Ben BYU their future opponent SMU uh did not cream Nevada in fact they had to come back to beat they did the biggest little football program in the country so I don't know maybe SMU not the returning Powerhouse house that some people thought um Nevada stinks sorry to go back to New Mexico uh I've got 247 pulled up and I've got their state rankings so you can go and you can sort it by every state who their top recruits how many leave what would be your guess on uh how many players in the class of 2024 have a scholarship offer coming out of New Mexico oh like one or two it's one and last year it was one so there is one D1 level player in state every year that's crazy because we have 30 in Utah now every year 30 kids get D1 well Utah is a little unique um High School football around here is is no joke and it's growing right and it's growing and our population is growing and New Mexico is not a big state no it's not so and a lot of it is really REM I mean we're talking about Albuquerque like that's the the big city you know yeah yeah I mean there's I mean I'm not kid there's 30 plus kids in class of 2023 in Utah who got D1 offer that's part of the point though yeah well I was honestly because I don't follow New Mexico recruiting all that much I was curious if you know can you get three of the top four kids it's like yeah you can have all the top kids they don't have offers anywhere you can get every player to come from the best high school in New Mexico they're not good enough that's the problem so yeah can you go chip off two players from Texas two players from Arizona two players from Southern California and do that enough time you know the 30th ranked kid in Utah UT yeah who's getting an offer only to Utah State and says well I don't want to be in Logan I I want to go out of state and I like the campus in New Mexico so I'm going to go down there but it's interesting I mean you wonder why these isolated places even ones you think it would be advantageous it's it's kind of a difficult cell with no resources and no whatever I mean like look at Hawaii I mean we can stick with with teams that played this weekend they beat Delaware state now Delaware State I think got off the plane and went and played cuz they missed their direct flight you know dress in the plane do you know they they had to take three flights because they missed their direct flight so they had to connect twice crazy uh but Hawaii won 35 to 14 why on Earth couldn't Hawaii have a a dominant football program you know there there's a recruiting base right there I mean not that you wouldn't have to recruit other but why can't you recruit from the mainland I mean it literally is Paradise it's Paradise kids would want to go spend their high school days there or college days excuse me no resources yeah and you talk to the people that want to come to the mainland from Hawaii it's because they're super isolated and for you and me Ben and we go out there for a five six day vac we think to ourselves like well my Atlanta this is incredible but like any growing up small town so I'm told you know there's a certain draw to go see what else is out there cuz being isolated is a commitment yeah but I if you ask lyd I hear the Mexican food in the Mexico's great is top-notch I I'd love to go I need to go to New Mexico I'd go to a game I'd be the only fan there you know that story right where Scotty's like Hey Lloyd give me heads up for uh some some Cuisine it's like oh gives him Mexican food restaurants that are like 60 miles away so Scotty ends up having Tepanyaki or what yeah right fine New Mexican you get to number three because it is a long headline number one it's game week what was that say it again I'm sorry I didn't I didn't hear that what Utah is taking on Southern Utah on Thursday ESPN plus BYU Southern Illinois on Saturday and Utah State taking on Robert Morris it was fun to just have sports on over the weekend it was fun to have college football on over the weekend I woke up I turned on college game day I had to hook up a little antenna so I could watch it live but I did and it was fun it's it's nice to have back I'm sure everyone did the same thing there were actually some shockingly good games as well but we can wait to talk about that at number two I'm excited for Thursday night there's a whole load of games this is a this is a really long list of games that are being played Thursday there's not a lot of yeah they're taking advantage of no NFL right is kind of the idea where you shotgun approach the start of college football yeah um I don't love Thursday night games per se but thus is a reality and uh obviously at the beginning of the year is a lot better than in the middle of the year so I'm looking forward to seeing what exactly Utah's offense is going to look like how much are they going to run I mean will this finally be the year Ben where be or Utah passes more than they run I doubt it but I mean if there was ever a year Candace candidacy might be this year right so what's that going to look like uh really good article from Steve ble at KSL sports.com about the UTS and about this kind of dynamic of if you're going to throw the ball if you're going to run the ball and they certainly believe that they have the pass catchers this year with Dorian singer and then Brant keithy coming back in a very deep tight end group I think that's because they don't have a clear number one running back even though maai Bernard is listed as number one he's never been he's never been that guy so why would I expect him to be that guy and I don't expect Jaylen Glover to be that guy either the question is by week three or four as one of these younger players stepped up and established themselves as somebody who can carry the ball between 15 and 22 times a game depending on what the game calls and can get you 85 to 125 yards when you need need it now my question for you is Ben because once they do that UT would be fine doing that but is that player what are the odds that player is even playing running back right now because if the last two seasons have taught me anything yeah is that it might not be someone who's even playing running back two years ago it was a d quarterback right last year safety right right so you know maybe the backup punter really can run I don't know uh I think that's very fair uh will we see somebody like dejon Stanley play will we see Hunter Andrews play are those guys who are going to get reps in game one I would sure as hell try if I were Utah because in all honesty and I think Makai Bernard is very talented I think I I thought that was good to get him back at Utah I've not seen Jaylen Glover ever take that bll by the horns and and take over that that position group if he did he would be the number one right now and there wouldn't have been a question but he could have done that two years ago as well to your point of Son vak Moving over or jaquin Jackson moving over so yeah there's a chance it is somebody else entirely the nice thing is Utah should have the offensive line to be able to run the ball and the passing game that should open up the ability to run the ball so one of these guys needs to step up and do it well one one thing Bernard does do well is block and um if the season's going to be about keeping cam Rising healthy and productive you know that certainly is something you've got to consider whereas last year was who cares if you can block we need anything anything anything anything I don't care if you have to change directions three or four times in the back field just don't make us throw the ball what's that uh what's that silly meme that's out there and I haven't seen this show but it's a show I think it's a superhero show where the guy lands in the big crowd and he's got a really worried look on his face like I'm in real trouble and then people start cheering him in his face like lightens up I think it's the boys is that what it is I think it's the boys yeah it's a hilarious meme whatever it is that was Utah against I think it was Washington State last year when the vaky thing exploded like w won them the game that was them being like we're starting a safety at running back we have no quarterback we have no way of moving the football this could be really interesting and then all of a sudden it goes bananas and it's like what it's working it's working cuz you remember remember the the storyline after that was why didn't you keep that for UCLA cuz Washington State stunk right am I am I remembering the I think you're right yes I think you're right the order everybody was like oh man why didn't you keep that bottled up for uh UCLA Washington State stinks and the answer was they had nothing El like that was the last the last straw and it's like wow that was incredibly successful I will say this do you remember how creative Utah got with brand keithy like finding ways to use him in the Jet Sweep and kind of using him as a running back at times oh when they played Florida nobody else was on the team I won't be surprised if we see that at all if they find ways to get Brant keithy the ball where you're just saying you're bigger and you're really fast need you to be athletic you know you probably don't want to test his knee too much but they're going to find ways to get creative with Brant keithy and I want yeah yeah sorry go ahead no and then sorry to switch away from Utah I have no idea what to expect from by at all well can they run the ball I mean I don't know I I pretty I think the quarterback play might be pretty mediocre so can they run it where where do they dig deep and find a run game yeah that was not existent if it's just LJ Martin great and the and the offensive line is there to support it I think that would be perfect if you're asking Brett or excuse me red SLA to run the ball a lot in game one against Southern Illinois I think that's a big that's a big red flag you don't Jake redl out there running the ball a whole lot all right Christian what's next number two local shine in the final weekend of NFL preseason do you have some stats for us Christian jiren Hall has survived the first wave of Vikings roster Cuts uh he played over the weekend had two touchdowns looked good Zach Wilson uh is the best quarterback the Broncos have apparently 16 of 25 251 yards three touchdowns also a couple of good scrambles let Zach cook let Zack cook cut stum we'll see what happens they should absolutely cut stum uh yeah I look Z has potential I've been fighting for Zack I've been told you I've been really excited to watch him I thought was going to be the guy hey look they still kind of put out there am I right on this Christian you can just nod your head uh or give me a thumbs up or thumbs down STM started the game and only played one drive right and then they went to Zach Wilson this freaking Zach Wilson now could you give us a a play-by-play breakdown of performance well he he was two of four Christian he's doing he's he's miming He's miming it that's good for radio weak uh so they did play stum like they were protecting him they gave him one drive which is what you do with a starter and then you rest him now we know B Knicks has already been named the starter but they may very well have been showcasing Zach Wilson to try and trade him now we will see Zack Wilson's been great Zack Wilson's absolutely earned a spot if he sticks with the Broncos and maybe they just keep three quarterbacks Maybe that's their solution they just keep three and if they decide they need another couple of weeks to decide who they want to keep you can wave stum later can always do that Tyler Huntley also played well should mention three touchdowns 17 to 22 passing 146 yards not only should they cut stum but they should leak just horrible slanderous stories in the media so you ruin his career okay don't try and get a six round pick for him or something just ruin him just like you're out and not only are you out but you can never get a job again Christian uh just tweeted uh the hash thee boys reference and the the m I was talking about are you familiar with this show Christian it's a good show I like it what's the premise imagine like if the Justice League was corporate okay and they're evil what's the Justice League I really don't know is that the is that the underdog one Christian describe oh sorry Batman Superman uh Aquaman where's Aquaman from the ruler wait so of the Seven Seas where does this guy who's surprised aqu does can you name the seven C's you can't name them the guy who looks surprised though what's what's his problem he's he's evil Superman evil Superman okay and he thinks he's in trouble but then realizes everybody's stucked okay thank you Christian uh number three we did we put number two and three out there oh okay uh but we can get to number three uh number three Florida State loses to Georgia Tech this is why you play Southern Illinois and this is why you play Southern Utah in your first game Florida State how it's so underwhelming absolutely they are look I I had this game on too and I was busy in the morning and kind of going back and forth and I was just like did Georgia Tech go back to the triple option that's how you beat Florida State when you're Georgia Tech right no I mean they still ran the ball that was still their their methodology but they were just tougher than Florida state which is embarrassing you can't do that if you're Florida State you were an injured quarterback away from being the college football playoff last year undefeated and because your quarterback got hurt they didn't put you in the in the playoff and you've done nothing but prove the college football playoff committee right since there are some programs out there where you have so many advantages you should never be bad now I'm not saying never be up like upset you know never beaten by a team that you should I mean that happens this is college football or whatever but like Florida State should never be bad Florida state is ever be bad DJ OU unay how many times have we seen that kid get second and third chances which again I'm not hammering a college football player I I root for all the kids in all honesty I want them all to succeed but is his pathway was it or was it Clemson Oregon State now Florida State like Florida State you don't have a kid from Florida who's ready to step in and play you don't have a five-star kid who I get he was okay at Oregon State last year get it you don't have a guy who's better BYU fell for it necessarily like he was the best transfer quarterback out there but like people were still talking about him being drafted absolutely absolutely going up to the draft he's still that when you're it's not hard yeah well I mean we're talking about fire breathing already so like let's have the kids put together a big man SL bonfire and then teach the kids how to live in a tent for three days or seven days and I mean there already none of these kids are showering these kids all stink already so they're halfway to Burning Man already we'll do it without the uh craon that comes with being a part of burning man let's throw the substances throw Oliver on a bus and say we got you a ticket yeah it's GNA be Sandy figure it out it's gonna be Dusty it's really communal living get some Chocos or whatever the shoes are called have a good time have a good time see you in a few weeks if the flash floods come get out of there split find Chris Rock and and bounce yeah find the professional athlete but your odds of going to burning maners if you want to go you can go I don't think you're going to get this curriculum picked up in and probably pretty tough to ensure no I think
