Tennessee Vols STATEMENT WIN Over NC State | Nico Iamaleava Is HIM! | Josh Heupel PLAYOFF Bound?

Tennessee 51 NC State 10 y'all I'm just telling you now Nico and company made a statement last night in Charlotte made a statement on the offensive and maybe even as much on the defensive side of the ball too which you're for a Tennessee fan you're like wait a second now this Tennessee defense they've got a little bit of little bit of some giddy up to them we'll talk about all that right now first Instagram JD pel so last night was not perfect and you see 51 points on the scoreboard as an offense you're like SC I feel pretty good wasn't perfect Nico had two picks uh there were some things that you got to clean up just overall that you you know are going to clean up throughout the course of a season that show themselves in week two but like going back to what I said at the top of this video man this was a statement win by everyone involved in Knoxville and the statement was you're going to have to deal with this Tennessee team not just in September not just that that game that you Circle in October here in there you're like oh Tennessee could kind of be sneaky here no like Tennessee is a team you're going to have to deal with whenever you have a conversation about the college football playoff preseason we picked them picked them to be in the college football playoff I see less than no reason to change that take after what we saw last night offense and Nico deserves a ton a ton of conversation we will give it to them here in just a second because the defense last night 13 tackles for a loss holding holding NC State to 10 points like say what you want about NC State and what they're not bringing to the table offensively they got some work to do over there to have the showing they had in the box score is one thing but just let's take a step back what did your tell you about that Tennessee defense to me it was there is a standard in place to play hair on fire Smashmouth sideline to sideline with no seat belt kind of football and those are all just kind of like nice labels and some of them maybe are cliches here in the hair on fire and sideline to sideline but like to actually do it in a game and to actually embody that that was I think very encouraging for Tennessee F because here's the deal you haven't had a defense to go with an offense typically just yet and that's not like a a thing that you have to be overly upset about at this point in the Josh hyp era but like what you had last night I think was the culmination of what they've been building to since he's been there and I love that Josh hpel made a point to say this during the press conference the question was was answered and he had kind of finished what he had to say but then he said I want to make sure I say this the standard at Tennessee is to be elite on defense starts mentioning all the great defensive players that have come through roxville said this is the home of Reggie White Eric Barry like to to say that out loud as an offensive coach a guy who specializes on the offensive side of the football that to me told me a lot about what Josh hyp Tennessee teams are going to be here going forward because they've recruited now too to be able to have a defense that played the way they played last night and yes there's some pieces on the back end you're still trying to uh you know Tinker with and get all the way right but like the way that that defense got after Grayson McCall last night the way that defense was swarming and flying to the football your eyes told you everything you need to know about the intensity and the value they place on defense the value I think is the most important word we can use when we talk about Josh hyp and how he views defense as an offensive head coach says a lot it's going to take you uh take you a very long way if that's the defense that you have to work with here in Knoxville especially when and if you find yourself in that 12 team college football playoff now the offense anytime you score 50 is going to get a lot of ation and they should the best way I could describe this Josh hyp offense under Niam malava it's kind of like whenever your iPhone gets a new like iOS update like it's it's very similar to what you've seen in the past but it's usually a pretty slight to substantial upgrade from the previous iOS maybe Tak some getting used to maybe there's some Kinks to work out and how you operate it but overall man like this new updated Josh hyp offense under nicoo amalay yava to me I mean it is just it's gonna be something special and it's only his third start but you see what it can be with eight run in the show you see all the things that he brings to the table that not other quarterbacks haven't had but that Nico just has the volume turned up on like hden hooker's a great athlete runs the football to really Elite level seeing Nico IAM malava have that designed quarterback run go for a 30 yard touchdown and seeing the defense have to honor that throughout the course of this game even before he broke off that run that changes the way that the defense has to approach you that changes the way that the defense has to prep for you during the week and you saw the dividends you saw Tennessee run for over 200 yards last night what have we said about Tennessee yes the splash plays downfield get the attention they get the highlights on Sports Center they want to be a physical punch you in the mouth kind of football team in the trenches that's who they are Dylan Samson had a great day running the football again over a 100 yards by him like that is who they want to be and over the course of time when they wear you down and you start to have to add extra guys into that box to defend the run then you see the pop pass happen because you're worried about Nico's legs and you're worried about Samson coming downhill at you Holden stays gets the little uh little RPO action out there in the flat and he takes it up the sideline for a touchdown why because you're worried about the quarterback making something happen with his legs I'm just telling you now the complexion of this offense is drastically changed we said it all offseason we're saying it again by what Nico IAM malava can do with his mobility and this is the play that didn't count and it was a highlight and it would have been a top 10 play but when Nico is back there dancing around evading pressure scrambling around the mobility Factor we talked about all offseason and then finds a guy downfield it's okay you know illegal man downfield I believe it was kelman who caught the touchdown and he's just I mean wide the heck open why because you can't cover a dude for four to five seconds two to three okay but when it goes to ad Li mode when it goes to New play mode and you got to keep up with our guys for that period of time it's going to favor Tennessee it's going to favor Nico in that skill set it's going to favor these weapons that Tennessee has and so again this is a statement made by them that you are going to have to deal with them and I said this on uh the Paul fine bomb show during SEC media days and when I said it it got got got a little bit of push back and it makes sense why it did but I'm going to double down on it right now nicoo malava physically is the most gifted quarterback tennessy has ever had now that doesn't mean he's the best quarterback tenness has ever had I think there is a certain individual that wore number 16 in Knoxville that has a pretty uh pretty strong grip on that title but just from physical giftings nicoo malava through three starts I've seen enough like I I've seen enough to say okay physically he is a different level than anything they've ever had there okay so what you get out of that now a lot of that falls on nikam malava and how good he wants to be it falls a lot on what Tennessee is as a football team and how much they're able to maximize him and all those those things but like to have that kind of potential at quarterback to have that kind of juice at quarterback that's going to keep you in I believe every single football game that's going to give you a chance I believe to go to the college football playoff Make some noise when you get there this this win I I believe probably added a lot of confidence too to Nico and this whole football team like internally it's it's probably uh as impactful as the statement was externally because good football teams winning doesn't force them into complacency winning only turns up the the volume on their hunger and what they want to accomplish like good football teams they taste success and they're like oh we want more of that I say good football teams well- coached football teams desire more success and from everything I know about Josh hyp from everything I know about this Tennessee team so far I think that's what it's going to be for them I think that'll make them more hungry we're not crowning Tennessee as the champions of the SEC or all this that and the other but I do think just from what we have seen our eyes are telling us the truth here uh Tennessee and Nico are for real I cannot wait to see what they become this season because through two games in a top 25 NC State outfit last night at a neutral sight in a big spot in prime time you got herb Street and Fowler on the call um looks special looks very very special I think it was Fowler it could have been re Davis bottom line you got herb Street calling the game so like that in itself should uh should tell you all you need to know at the end of the today Tennessee it's a pretty good jumping off point to start
