had some hope with the arrival of manager Dick Williams the previous season Williams had won an Al pennon a skipper for the Red Sox in two World Series with the A's in the early 1970s the Braves were trying to recover from a slow decline into the Sellar in the 1970s they had won the no in 1969 but slowly declined into 101 lost team by 1977 so they hired a new firste manager for 1978 Bobby Cox he
