hello everybody Welcome in to the NBA front office show the countdown is on preseason is almost here the NFL is back tonight it's an exciting time in the Sports World I'm Trevor L joined by Kate Smith if you haven't subscribed to the front office show yet please make sure you do so over on the YouTube channel as well as the podcast side Apple podcast Spotify wherever you listen to podcast uh today we got to talk about a lot of stuff we got to talk about Evan forier actually turning down NBA deal we got to talk about Steph Curry owning an NBA team H who could he partner with I have some ideas uh and then a noow at Camp a camp holdout in the NBA not the NFL in the NBA we've got a camp holdout to talk to talk about here kind of camp hold out let's be very clear for podcast listeners Kei in air quotes there yeah for for Camp so in fact let let's just start there Brandon Ingram the Pelican that no one wants apparently because they couldn't find a trade for him look there's a lot of Brandon Ingram is a very good player there's a lot of contractual stuff the new CBA coming into effect all of that but the there was a informal Camp voluntary camp but the Pelicans did think that Brandon Ingram would be there and he did not show up is this a new contract thing is this just Brandon because he does want an extension is this just Brandon Ingram not happy with the Pelicans maybe he got the DAT wrong I don't know he overslept Kate what do you think is going on here yeah my guess is this is probably some amount of I don't want to get hurt and ruin any chances I have of getting traded uh there there's probably some of that in there we heard uh Damen Lillard talked about it in an offseason interview about how he didn't do anything while waiting on his trade from the Trailblazers last year and he felt like that had him way behind as the Summer started but he didn't want to risk getting hurt and having anything mess up as a option to get traded I guess opportunity to be traded so I'm guessing that's probably mostly what it was with Ingram this sounds like mostly organized by players to get together I don't love the idea of taking anything out on his teammates they're not the ones who want him traded they're not the ones who are uh not signing him or whatever it may be um so I think that's where just you let's be a little careful with this if you're uh you know Brandon Ingram like like we you know you don't want to turn these guys against you for any means but honestly I don't know that this is going to amount to anything what will matter is if he's not there and ready to go at the start of real training camp sure uh in a few weeks then that'll be a much bigger deal and that'll be something that actually matters I I think the the piece that does matter and you're right real Camp of course is much more important than than an informal players organized camp but the problem here is that the Pelicans believed he would be there if this was just brand look Daniel Ty wasn't there either but he had stuff going you know from the Olympics and all that but that was communicated they weren't expecting Daniel Ty to be there the the expectation was that Brandon Ingram would be there and then he didn't show up it wasn't like he communicated ahead of time hey I'm not going at least from what we know from the reporting around this he didn't communicate with them that he would not be there instead they believed he would be and then they were left looking around going where's where's bi where is he yeah and he didn't show up that that's that's not a good look I understand the whole not wanting to get hurt thing and all of that and that's fine that's a perfectly reasonable but you know what you can also go and not play you can go and be be there for your to sit on the side right just just hang out camaraderie all that that sort of stuff just not there's two sides to every story and we're only getting one side here but this is not a great look for Brandon Ingram yeah and I like I I think this is probably a little bit of all parties involved wish he had been moved on uh to whatever his next team is and as you mentioned off the top it's this is this is one of those ones that is very much it's like 5050 the the player in his game versus the player in his contract because what I think teams are looking at is Brandon Ingram very good player but probably not a Max guy by all accounts he wants a max deal on his next contract so teams are like we're gonna have to give up stuff to get him in trade because the Pelicans aren't giving him away and certainly not attaching anything to him to trade him then not only have you now giv up stuff to get him and trade but then you have to resign him and if you're not convinced like this is the guy who puts us over the top uh towards being something more as a team then you're probably in a spot where yeah it doesn't we we're we we're not going to make that big uh trade for brenon Ingram and that's that's a tough spot to be in some sure he's not happy the team's not happy the Pelicans the reality of their situation is they've got a real messy roster situation and I'm glad you pulled up their Capi those top six guys which is probably how it should be right those are their six best players well you can't start six guys and none of them are a center so two of that six need to go to the bench you're not benching Zion you're not benching Deonte Murray who you just traded for to be your long-term point guard you're if Ingram's still there you're not going to bench him because that's only going to damage so that means are we looking at herb Jones and Trey Murphy both coming off the bench like cirb Jones is one of the best defenders in the entire league and Trey Murphy's a guy we've been saying for over a year now he probably needs to start and play more so it's just that this Pelicans team is a really good example of it's not about collecting talent in the NBA it's about collecting talent that fits and if you don't have talent that fits and there's not enough minutes for everybody it can get real ugly real quick this is a great Point Keith because you know in Laker land we've been talking all summer about when are the Lakers going to get a center when are they going to get a center why do they still not have a center what are they doing right all that's been the conversation they're banging my head against the wall but my God look at the Pelicans they don't have a starting center E Mei yeah we we like Mei but he's 20s a rookie you're not GNA slot him into a starting lineup Daniel Ty I guess becomes the starter but how many teams around the NBA right now would start Daniel Ty if you put him on their roster the Pelicans that and that's it right that's it that's and that's only out of necessity and that's not I like Daniel Ty I'm not saying that to knock him I think he's he's a backup Pig it's what he is and the Pelicans have put themselves in a spot where just to have a coherent roster a starting five that actually makes some sense they're going to have to start a guy that's not a starting caliber player at least not not in the NBA FBA maybe it's a different story but not in the NBA so it's a tough spot there for the pels right now they need to make a move if not moves plural and it seems like this Ingram situation has just kind of got them stuck where it is what it is I imagine we're going to see a lot of Zion Williamson at the five because you're not going to play Daniel TI 30 minutes a night I can't imagine so you're probably going to see a lot of small ball with the pells just to get their most talented players on the floor and mei's just not ready yet like he's very raw so so he's probably a yeah you could maybe get him 10 15 minutes a night in a regular season and be okay um but for now that's a developmental guy so yeah you're absolutely right this is a um spot for the Pelicans where good team good collection of talent but I could see this going sideways where because I love players but players are bad in their nature and it's part of generally what makes most of them great they tend to be very selfish and you're gonna have players you're going to look at and like I'm better than Daniel Ty why is he starting and getting 25 minutes a game they're not going to look at and like well I'm a backup guard like they're just going to be like I'm better than him I should play and the reality is you need a five out there you need somebody who can do that and that's not Zion not not for anything more than 10 minutes a night maybe five minutes to close each half something in that range kind of like the Warriors used to do with Draymond Green back in the day but for now yeah it gets real messy and I could see this being one where Willie Green is put in a really difficult position night to tonight of man I've got all these guys now I can't get them all minutes and I still don't really have a five so unless they're trading Ingram for five which like we talk how many times have we talk this summer about Ingram for Jared Allen or before they get to jonte maray Ingram for Darius Garland being trades that made sense both ways well those probably aren't happening at this point so unless there's a trade out there for a real five for Brandon Ingram that we just don't see right now I think this is going to be potentially one of those ones where we're sitting around New Year and we're like why are the Pelicans three games under 500 what what happened to cause this with this kind of talent um on this roster yeah that's a that's a good point where they just don't have the right fit that could put them in a tough spot and we've talked about this in the Western Conference you can dig yourself a hole that's very difficult to get out of now that being said winning does kir all and Kate their first three games of the season for the Pelicans they go Chicago Portland Portland so that's helpful and then a few games later they get Portland again so they why do we do that like is so annoy maddening you should not be playing you're and I get we have the look they have two of the baseball Series like back to back uh yep right in the first week of the season I get we're trying trying to reduce travel I get all that stuff especially for New Orleans I think technically on a map other than Memphis the most eastern um uh Western Conference team so get you're trying to only send them to Poland you're trying to only send them to Golden State once but like Poland you play him three times in the first week two weeks of the Season like that's not representative because then we're going to look back at it later and be like man instead of getting Portland on the schedule in March when we're trying to make a playoff push we're now get Dallas or Denver you know somebody like that like it's just yeah I we got to do this better we we got to be smarter about this I also I hate these things too like Portland of Pride doesn't matter as much like Golden State what if Steph Curry sprains his ankle the weekend before then you don't see Steph Curry either of those two games like then you're you're not getting a representative sample size of what did they look like against the Warriors so I that's just me getting up on the soap box for a minute here no we got to do better you're you're absolutely right I mean it I I had not looked in depth at the Pelican schedule until this moment and it's they play they play three teams in the first five games you go Chicago Portland Portland Golden State Golden State um it's just crazy and then again you get you get Portland again so you've got three games against Portland in your first what seven eight games there eight games that's that's crazy there's a bunch of bunch of winnable games there right Brooklyn's not going to be very good Atlanta is probably not going to be be great uh your home at least for the uh for the Pacers and the Cavs the gold those Golden State games are like look and then they play Golden State again a third time before the end of end I'm just looking at it because you know in the west with that kind of a schedule in the early going there's going to be an absolutely brutal stretch coming um but but regardless yeah you're right you don't get man they have a lot of those back look at this what happened to the Pelicans Denver Denver Sacramento Sacramento Sac San Antonio San Antonio yeah Phoenix Phoenix why are they playing every one of their games as a baseball Series what is going on this is crazy oh look there's Houston Houston yeah at least that's Minnesota Minnesota it's surrounded by by games verse Detroit on either end is this a geography thing like because of where the PS are located it's just it's yeah like Minnesota is not that far for them no like that's it's not it's a few hours that's weird man what a weird schedule the things that we uncover on this show the didn't even wasn't even a thought process and this was not a segment for us by the way Keith you a few moments ago you didn't mean to but you gave me the title for this show the headline for the show okay what was it it NBA players are selfish go i g go I think that's a great head headline I mean it's not untrue it is true and it's I don't like you said I don't even mean it in a bad way like it's part of how they get there right it's it's it's like when you say like they're competitive to a fall like that's true if you're not super competitive you're not making the NBA like what he just drops in is like even the guys who don't care care enough to get there like that's the you know the then some of them yeah especially they get paid and yes there's a long history of guys who all of a sudden got paid and they're like I'm good like I I don't need to work very hard I'm kind of over this so yeah who's the first player you think of when you say that um it's this is like a poll that's like only so fans are going to kind of remember but Mark Blount kind of did that back in the day like he like got paid and then like completely was like whatever um who is the guy for the Knicks he he didn't really stop caring he just wasn't good in this Jerome James that that was the first one went I actually I just pulled up on my screen his player profile Jerome James who who got a big contract off a one playoff series that was the first guy I thought of for the sonics right for Sonics yep and then that wasn't as much he didn't care as just he just actually wasn't good in the nexts know to him for capitalizing on one good playoff series right I think the sonics did that with Jim mlane back in the day I think he played well for somebody else and the sonics overpaid him uh one year so yeah the sonics are the first team I ever think of with the whole a guy starts it's almost always a center starts plays like the first five minutes and then never plays again because they did that with um Irvin Johnson remember that back in the day remember he would start games and there was like Sam Perkins would play like the rest of the minutes for that Sonic team so man those Sonic teams they were so fun back in the when they made that run they got got the balls that one year with with Luke row and stuff when they were when they were really good or you going back farther I was going back way further than that like back to the pton Kemp years but yeah now yeah rid and cison like the pre prek KD they had rard and Ray Allen one random season where they suddenly were good and they and they were fast and they shot a lot of Threes And then they kind of dropped back down after that but they had that one year that was uh that was magical well you know what I love I love that you went to shot a lot of Threes because they probably took like 20 a game right I mean for the for the era they shot a lot of I 100% knew what you meant it's just very funny I always think about the so is the 2002 um Celtics that team that went to that very surprisingly went to the east finals um that year and it was like whoa these guys are in the East finals they lost to uh to to the Nets um before whoops did I disappear for a moment there no no I got you sorry um they lost to that Nets team that then the Lakers hammered in the finals but that Celtics team it was a huge deal because everybody he's like this team can never win shooting this many three-pointers and they led the league by a wide margin at 23.7 a game as a team now antoan Walker took eight himself and Paul Pierce took 6.3 but that was a Jim O'Brien year yep yeah yep that might have been when it came from H but yeah that very famous Antoine quote take for reference the the the lowest three-point attempts per game in the NBA last season was 31 that was the lowest who was it I'm m don't tell me I don't think you'll get it were they good or bad they were good I don't know it's the Denver Nuggets oh yeah that makes sense yeah because I remember nuggets fans chirping all year like they need to take more threes so yeah yeah 31.2 just barely ahead by 0.1 of the Orlando Magic at 31.3 and then my Lakers new Orlando GNA be low yeah Boston led the league right I believe yes yeah they led the league with 42 and a half they led the league by by three attempts per game yeah yeah over Dallas so much for three-point shooting teams can't win titles I think we've put that narrative to bed over the last decade I would hope it probably not it'll come back up again when we hit playoff time yep it will but it's uh all I don't think it's true anymore um okay well that's good we're 20 minutes in and we're one talk we're 20 minutes in and we' talked we've talked about the Pelicans and their crazy schedule and three-point shooting welcome to the show everybody 1990s NBA hey at least was all basketball talk this time that's we weren't talking Hoops there's no there was no scheduled nonsense or unscheduled nonsense that wound up in the Marvel universe or anything like that um okay let's get to to this let's go speaking of of three-point Shooters let's go with Steph Curry uh wants to own an NBA team interesting because well there's this other guy named LeBron James that also wants to own an NBA team and they seem to be pretty buddy buddy this summer to the point where there's been you know some could LeBron go to the Warriors could Steph go to the Lakers some of that kind of discussion it's extremely I'm like it's not happening yeah but could they go in and a team together maybe you know I don't know Las Vegas yeah I I think that could that could wind up happening it wouldn't surprise me at all yeah completely agree with with that too what's really if he's done playing yeah correct yeah obviously yeah because you as much as because I don't know if you saw there's a rem of Boston today that Fenway Sports Group within which LeBron is an investor um minority partner whatever you want to call it they are one of the teams that is maybe bidding for the to buy the Celtics so there's all these things about what if LeBron James owns the Celtics it's not allowed he would have to heest that portion of his ownership and all that stuff while he plays you can't even be a player owner on your own team like like he couldn't buy part of the Lakers right now now there is in the CBA there's that fund players can invest into to own like a a portion of teams but it's not like they it's not like you're the direct owner of the team because that would that imagine the salary cap circumvention then and be like well I'm on a minimum deal now and right it's no more so than if you own stock in Ford are you the are you making decisions for for are you owning the company not really that's not now what I do think is really cool is players between salaries and endorsement money they manage their money this is no longer like yeah really they're gonna buy a team like like these guys like they going to have you know if they do it right they're going to be in the billions when they retire now we're GNA see players obviously like Luca and wemy and those they're going to make a billion in NBA salary alone um by the time they retire just with where all the salaries are going but with like Cur and LeBron because remember when Jordan was like I'm gonna buy the the back when it was the Bobcats yep and everybody's like well that's only MJ because he's like because of Jordan and he's made you know billion dollars more money than he did playing basketball yeah yeah and there was like no one else is going to get to that point to be more than like a minority investor now we're at the point where like yeah you could have two three players come together bu a team and they probably have to bring in one majority partner like they can be heavily invested and involved at a level where they maybe couldn't have been previously which is is kind of cool to to to see it kind of come together that way for for guys it's just you know take care of your money that that's going to be uh the important part because otherwise you're not buying anything you know what would be fun is if Steph became part owner in Seattle and LeBron became part owner in Vegas and then they can continue playing against each other even after they they're not actually yeah' be fun yeah that' be fun okay uh let's jump over to this former Laker more recently former Utah Jazz player but Taylor Horton Tucker signs with the bulls Now Keith there was some misreporting on this this is not actually a partially guaranteed deal this is just a camp deal for tht with Chicago Lakers fans got a little bit of a chuckle out of the irony that the Chicago Bulls just traded away Alex kuso and then in some ways kind of replace him with ton Horton Tucker because we all know about the Epic mistake the Lakers made uh years ago but nonetheless ton Horton Tucker to the Bol still a very young player and I mean he's talented I hope that he he gets an opportunity to catch on with the Bulls team that is obviously in the middle of transitioning more towards a youth movement and a rebuild they're not there yet they still have some moves they need to make with Zack LaVine with vich but um tht you know he'll get a shot here in Camp to prove himself to Chicago which is his hometown by the way that's what I say yeah Chicago Kid too here's my issue with this where in the world does he fit on a team that's already got way too many guards as it is very true right because it's his his really only role in the NBA that he's been successful in is as an on ball playmaker scorer because he doesn't he can't shoot so he can't play off ball so you really need him to be on ball well you're you're starting out camp behind Kobe white I dumu Lonzo ball Zack LaVine at either of the Guard positions as far as being an on ball guy so so that's tough I I I don't know I don't necessarily see him cracking even the Bulls roster maybe he goes to the g-league with them and what he's probably looking at is if I'm going to the G League I might as well do it at home and right be be be home and I'll play for the windy city blls of the G league and we'll figure it out and he maybe even thinking hey maybe they move on from Lonzo maybe they finally get a LaVine trade done and then something opens up that way for me to uh you know join the team and crack the rotation that way and if if that's how it comes down okay sure like then no real you know issue with this for him I think it is pretty telling one he had to take an exhibit 10 I think anybody knows basically for the life of this show I'm just not a big fan because he can't shoot so I don't like I don't like ball dominant players who can't shoot because it's just it makes everything so difficult around them but he's still to me I would have looked at and said yeah he's at least a minimum guy like I wouldn't have thought but there's just there's just nothing out there for these guys right now right now yeah I was talking to someone in the league today and they were telling me like yeah there's just like this is like someone who works with players and he's like there's just nothing no one had no one's even offering anything right now Beyond Camp deals this is very akin to Lonnie Walker having to take a camp deal with the Celtics um that's just that's what's being offered up right now that's the best you can kind of do and these guys just it's kind of take it or leave it they you know figure it out and at least at least this gets you something and get you close right and then then you then from there you know you wait and see does something else open up or you know how does it come together I mean you're right about the shooting you look at 29% from three for his career did shoot 33% last season which is an improvement but still that's not good that's below Le average 40% overall though which is not good yeah no yeah yeah not not good and that's like that's going to be a struggle he's got to improve there the free throw shooting 78% okay maybe there's something to that but this pretty low volume we're talking about a couple of attempts per game but what I wanted to highlight is three seasons in a row he's been a double- digit scorer now just barely 10 points sure but still he's been a double digit scorer for three seasons in a row and he's not getting a spot in the league right now um what do you attribute all this is this the new CBA that that's causing this or is there or is it just there's too much talent and this is just another nod to hey we need expansion what is this I think it's that second one more than the new CBA because I don't think because if he took a minimum deal and we're like man this guy should be getting at least the the taxpayer midlevel of five million or so and he was taking a minimum deal then you could be like all well that's maybe teams being cautious with the new CBA I think what we've seen happen which leads me to your last part of it's definitely time for expansion players are playing deeper into their career now than ever before you have now if we just pull it and like I don't not even sure where we would pull this but we just pulled all of the guys that are like 34 and over that list is going to be pretty long and that list it never used to be all that long it was right around 34 years old when most players were kind of Aging out and you were seeing them kind of drop out of the uh out of the league more guys are playing longer than ever then you have the draft picks coming in so when you get the draft picks come in behind them you're you're essentially you've got minus forfeited picks and all that you've got 60 drafted players or let's just call it 60 players because you have all these guys coming in to the league that are their taking spots away from guys then you have the older players they're just these guys are getting squeezed out they're just not there add on top of that a lot of teams are not filling all their roster spots you have the three two-way spots so it's like H we don't have to fill them all right now we could kind of get away with using our two-way guys for half of the Season or more and figured out so yeah oh so you found it there yeah I mean that's I did find it last year's yeah so these are guys that played in a game last year but it's crazy right like I mean that's got to be 20 we're going yeah yeah some of these guys don't don't have deals right now number yeah I mean look at this goes right but but you're seeing only a handful of these older guys age out of the guys you've kind of scrolled through only a small amount of them are are even out of the league right right now like most of these guys that are on this list are still playing somewhere so that does make it harder on guys like ton Orton toer who is a he's a good player but he's not a great player so it just makes it harder for a guy like him to stick in the league because yeah he's not old by any means but what is he like 23 24 believe he's 23 yeah so a team would rather have a 19 or 20 year old because maybe that guy becomes something versus and we kind of know what Horton Tucker is right now we don't we're we're not GNA invest a lot of time in a guy like him so yeah crazy kind of funny that that way isn't it like we've got these guys who are 35 up in the league but then you look at a 23y old and go ah he doesn't have as much upside cuz he's 23 he's getting old rather go get a 19-year old but it's not wrong the thought process there it's just sure a little funny yeah well it's not even like a Taj Gibson type right who's like right yeah we keep him around because he's a great locker room guy and everybody loves him and he's youo great to have in the locker room yeah would if basketball-wise is Horton Tucker more valuable to a team than Taj Gibson yeah probably on the court but it's almost like Pelicans conversation it's not all about that right it's it's sometimes it's about what what can you offer us you know so goty like Gibson he's going to be on rosters probably for you know another couple years if he wants to be he's like kind of like a new aonis Haslam where it's coaches trust him it's and guys I remember hlen there was so many discussions the last like four years of his career where he barely ever played why is this guy taking up a roster ball why aren't we developing a young guy well why it is is when the when somebody's like we need to have a players only meeting Eric spoler can walk out with the coaches knowing hm's not going to let it get out of control in there he's gonna control that when spoler rips I don't know Tyler herro when he's a rookie guard because he's made the same mistake you know and pick a roll coverage three times in a row Haslam can put his arm around Hero's shoulders and be like hey man you're gonna figure it out like and it just means something different coming from the guy who's on the floor with you the guy who's in the locker room with you versus the coaches that's why they keep some of these veteran guys around for years and years and years beyond their useful basketball playing ability and everybody says well just make him a coach then it's then your management right it's it's like you know right it's it's like employees versus management and it's like now you're part of management and it just feels it we've all worked with a friend who got promoted into some management or supervisory role and then it just felt different you didn't feel like you you couldn't go complain about I almost really went into bad words there we try to keep it clean here you you you you you go complain about other people it's like you can't go complain to your buddy anymore because now he's your manager right so it's like well I don't really want you to do anything I just want to gripe about it it just it that that's what happens when players uh switch from you know the end of the bench in a in a sweatsuit to Suit and Tie you know on the don't really we suit and tie you know what I mean I'm as a coach now so it's just just a different environment yeah the times have changed and it and it changes when you're changing that role too all right let's get over to some unfortunate news here I mean we knew bad news was coming in terms of the the length of time he would be out um GG Jackson out three months for the Grizzlies again this is a Grizzlies team that was ridiculously injured last season so not the way you want to start off this season having a guy like GG Jackson out but fortunately it's not like a season ending injury I know Keith was it day before yesterday we talked about it's not going to be a Jones fracture that's what we heard so it is a fifth metatarsal that that he fractured three months and then hopefully he'll be back and the good thing is I I mean Silver Lining it happened before the season started so that starts the clock earlier it start had it happened in October okay then you're missing into January February of the NBA maybe then you're not back to the all-star break now at least you start that clock that three months get them back before the break and uh and there you go yeah so probably just off of this timeline but I would guess by the time we actually see him available to play because this will be three months and it's probably a couple weeks or ramp time so yeah we're probably talking middle of December you know maybe right around Christmas Even if it things you know if there's any kind of delay or setback so not the end of the world right it's it's it's just the challenge is we talked about it at the time Memphis is going to be trying to reclaim their status as a contender they're not going if he's behind this may turn into a bit of a Lost season for GG Jackson where if he could have had a strong training camp he might have been in a rotation I mean he could have even challenged to even be the starting three on this team uh this year and now instead it'll be all right let's figure it out there's probably gonna be some g-league time coming but he's very young I mean he was one of the younger players in his draft class so not the end of the world if he's got uh another another year of development in front of them and that just the good news is three months not the end of the world you know do your rehab do what you can to stay ready to go so then you know as you kind of come back you you can hit the ground running no pun intended yeah absolutely all right let's jump over to uh Amazon closing a deal to live stream 13 Bal NBA teams now we know they were having issues B was um and and now Amazon is is going to close a deal to be able to live stream these teams Now Keith I know you have actually the list of the teams that are included in this that are going to be streamed now I'm ass and I'm assuming this is gonna happen The Following Season or is that or is that this coming season I think it's like right now uh right now okay let's see uh I'm I'm just pull pulling it up here because I I like an idiot I closed it um all right so the teams are the Atlanta Hawks Charlotte Hornets Cleveland cavali Detroit Pistons Indiana Pacers LA Clippers Memphis Grizzlies Miami Heat Milwaukee Bucks Minnesota Timberwolves Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs two teams that weren't mentioned in there Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans they have already agreed they're going to do their own thing uh this year sounds like they're going to go the Suns Jazz route of Trailblazers in are now doing that as well they're going to do do their own thing but so what Amazon's going to do is they're launching a it says with the new streaming service I don't know really how that works like is if you already have Prime do you get it I don't really know what it is um but it says um fans will pay $20 a month for access to their home team's local games um there's going to be five MLB teams and nine NHL teams um and it sounds like this will launch next month with the start of the NHL in NBA Seasons this is all in the New York Post uh is where this is coming out of so obviously this is a very much a developing story and we'll figure that out but they're not going to be there now when this was talked about previous that Amazon may say hey B we'll buy these rights from you and show them one of the things that was talked about is it we still they'll still if you buy league pass and that's like if you're a um Hawks fan living in uh you know Idaho and you buy league league pass you'll still get the games through League Pass you're not going to have to buy League Pass not get the Hawks games and then by this too they'll still be available part of lead pass so no nothing changes with that that makes sense okay well I mean that'll be good for fans to be able to of course see their teams sure someday Keith someday we will realize the dream of all games no blackouts being in one place but until we get there we're going to have to piece it all together and figure it out but but good at least that there's going to be a way to see that because there's you know there there was that whole thing with I believe it was a Sons last year that were trying to to make their games available over the air so you'd have to get an antenna and all that all that kind of stuff so good to see which honestly like I'm okay with that too right like because the Suns also launched their own streaming uh version too and I think the Jazz have their own streamer you can buy it direct uh from the team to get the game so there's still local area blackout restrictions apply that's again I've said this a million times this is not an NBA thing that's FCC regulation stuff on blackouts and all this because they adopted it a million years ago when I was like no will go to the local game if they can just turn it on in their living room like so they make it very hard to see local teams like the NFL was all about sellouts right if you didn't sell out the football game it wasn't like as a fan of the Patriots when they were awful and like a good season was like hey they went seven to nine and didn't lose 10 plus games um which yes for the younger that did exist in the pre Brady bich years very often as when during my youth they weren't on TV most weekends when they were home because they didn't sell out to home games and it was like well I'm not because who wants to go watch this team that might win three games like every was like nah and then that that was why half the kids I grew up with were like Giants fans because every week we got the Giants games because like well the packs didn't sell out so they're not on TV this week it was Giants and Bills fans every because that's like the teams we saw the most here's the the problem with all that that whole concept of like well you know we don't want to put them on TV because we want to drive fans to the arena and everything like have you been to a game recently have you seen how expensive it is to go to to go to a game like there's a lot of people who aren't going to go just because of just for financial reasons right more than than Comfort or anything else but it it's really expensive I get wanting to drive people to the games and if that's what you want to do then just make the games more of an experience make it something most people aren't going to be able to go all the time but make it something that people can go to once a season or something like that and make it a fun experience make it something special and that will bring people into the arena and again I know I'm preaching to the choir here and I just think that's such an Antiquated model to have this this whole idea of well we we better not put it on TV otherwise nobody's gonna come to the game no I think people want to be there people want to be in person and see these guys up close and and all that sort of stuff whether it's the NBA the n whatever MLB but I think reality is that the people aren't going to be going all the time and so you need to capitalize on getting as many eyeballs as you can on your club and you're going to do that by making it available on TV I think sometimes we go too far to make again not just NBA but we to make Sports inaccessible and I I really think we should be going the other direction yeah I agree I have a um on the plus side I so I have a Twitter list which like is on my tweet deck which which is just all of the NBA team accounts so I just and then it you know tweet deck just refreshes itself throughout the course of the day and I was in I was doing some stuff and I was looking at it and it was interesting I had like probably four tweets all at once from different teams all around the country about season ticket plans yeah and what is really smart that NBA teams have done is they all now offer these partial season ticket plans yeah but they have all different kinds like one of them was tweeting about hey our weekend plans are available which yeah for a lot of people like a week night game is can be hard right it's like the magic I have a friend he gave up his Magic season tickets but what he has now is he buys one of these partial plans because he's like I couldn't get to 41 games anymore he's like he's my last year he goes I went to 20 like I didn't go to half of them and he's like in some of them I plan to go and then by the time I was like I can't go or I'm too tired or whatever because for him it's like 45 minutes to get there yeah then it is the magic games are usually at seven so he's like for 45 minutes he's like that means I got to get out of work and make sure I can get down there Park go to the game then I haven't eaten so I'm gonna eat at the arena which adds an expense by the time the game ends 9:30 by the time I get out of the parking area you know you're talking 10 1015 he goes now 45 minutes home it's 11 o'clock and he's like and I'm wiped so like for him to switch to one of these partial plans which he did works out a lot better he's like now I lock in those I think he's got like 15 games or something think I lock in those 15 nights and have them planned out and I know so I think teams have been really smart about the way they've structured some of that stuff one of them was really was uh just division games so it's like okay in theory you're rival games right like that's you know and I know that's very much in theory because a lot of teams don't really consider those teams to be the rivals but like it like yeah like just smart about the way you put it together so yeah that's all no I I like that I think that's it makes a lot of sense to do it that way it's like a time share of a season ticket you know you're getting a fraction of it okay um let's go here Evan forier reportedly turned down to two your deal with the Wizards we reported the other day that he signed with olympiakos in in Greece so Evan forier had the opportunity to stay in the NBA looked at the Washington Wizards roster and said no thank you that's that's that's really this isn't he said this this is he said this on the record like that he said I wasn't interested in any kind of Mentor deal and I didn't want to go there to play for a bad team like a team that had no chance of winning so this isn't like us like I think this is what he was thinking like no he said it was in a interview with a French outlet that he that he said all this he's like nope I just I'm out so yeah I think with fornier I kind of get it but also like you could it stayed in the NBA and my now what we don't know is from The Wizard side my guess from The Wizard side it was we had Bal kabali we have Alex SAR we've got a couple young French players y let's bring in a veteran French player who can kind of help them along in their career and for the Wizards it's probably yeah we're fine you know we're we're gonna be bad either way so giving fornier a job in a few minutes isn't really going to hurt anything but yeah but he decided he wanted to play good I mean good for him too for kind of looking at him being like I don't need to be in the NBA I he what have made the two years four million is reportedly what he got from olympiakos that's we would have got roughly that from the Wizards presumably if it was just the minimum deal so yeah why not like I guess if You' rather win and I mean the reality is he goes and plays well for olympos and is you know great he's gonna be a hero over there and know do well like uh um Sasha vezenov did right where he was like I'm I'm out of here I want to go back to to to Europe so you know why not and I wonder too what like two-year deal but was the second year you know non- guaranteed or something like that too whereas he had two years guaranteed with olympos that could be a factor with something like this yep yep and I my guess is his olympos steal it hasn't been reported yet my guess is there's an NBA out after this season so if he goes over there and kills it and A team's like hey we want to bring you back for next year on a you know5 million a year deal or something maybe he does it might I think the more likelihood is we've probably Seen the Last of Evan fornier in the NBA but he can play another five six years in Europe and and do just fine for himself all right let's finish up with this m mclung to the magic I more put this in like good on M mclung um obviously Dunk Contest Champion fantastic dunker but he got a partially guaranteed deal with Orlando but it's more like what about marel FS he's still sitting out there as a as a guard like it was surprising to see M MCL get a deal before and I like M MCL a lot but still surprising to see him get a deal before Marl Fon yeah I think this is Mac mclung can take this opportunity because he's a g-league guy so for him it's a great ala make something out of this and then if I make the team great Marquel folz has got to be thinking like I'm not g to go fight for a spot especially not on a team I've been on for the last five years whatever it's been because magic right now this is their back court Jaylen Suggs cavius Kobo Pope Gary Harris Cole Anthony Anthony black Corey Joseph that's six legit dudes yep like there's no room I mean I I don't think M mclung makes the team unless the magic look at him be like yeah Cory Joseph isn't cutet like he he can't really play anymore and they move on from him then maybe mck mclung grabs that spot but otherwise I mean those are all good good guys I mean anony Black's going to have a hard time cracking the rotation he's a young guard who needs development minutes so as long as they're healthy that that's a that's a good deep guard group and that's part of the reason why the magic are they're they're good they have pretty good depth they've got 10 11 guys that can all actually play and that's behind guys like banero and V fron Vagner were like Allstar All-Star level players so that that's why the magic have climbed up in in the uh standings fairly quickly here in the last couple years yeah yeah well well uh K it kind of goes full circle to that conversation we were having earlier about that there's no deals out there right now and part of that just being the amount of talent in the NBA Marco fults a prime example of that as well you know we talk about Lonnie Walker the deal that he took the T Horton Tucker the deal he took I would have to if there was an exhibit 10 deal I would have to imagine exhibit 10 would be on the table for marold somebody would give him that I would have to imagine but maybe he just he doesn't want that that's my guess my guess is he is he would rather wait it out see if there's an injury not that he's rooting for everybody to get injured obviously but just if there's an injury or if there is something happens there's a trade that opens up an actual rotation spot then he'll jump on it and that could be one where it maybe what we see is we've seen other guys do veteran guys do this maybe he does a couple 10 days in January when those start and he's like all right I'll do a couple 10 days just to show hey I'm I'm in shape I'm pretty good and I I you know I'm ready to go and and then the team may move move on a full full contract end for him or something like that but I it's probably going to be a little while before we see him uh show up on on a roster just because it's it's it's like we're we're teams are not filling rotation spots right now they are filling out camp roster spots it's it but to your point about expansion just think about it that's 30 more standard jobs plus six more two-way because I'm assuming at least two teams would come in sure so there's there's 30 guys that are we're looking at they could I make two good teams out of all the available players right now absolutely not they'd be awful but guess what expansion teams are awful they're usually really bad for the first couple years but 30 guys that are available that could be um you know on NBA roster yeah I could find you 30 guys with Rel TVs or guys who are on a roster right now but on a camp deal or on a two-way yeah we we could get there very very quickly right right exactly all right well I think that's gonna about do it for today make sure you guys do subscribe to the channel turn on those
