but a strange Heisman Trophy race AJ McCarron sitting there in the number three position potentially could move up with a big game today Manzel down to Five Guys Like Mariota and Petty just falling away after that very strange Saturday and look at number two Andre Williams ladies and gentlemen a running back a senior from Boston College a school that hasn't had anyone close to the Heisman Trophy since Doug fluty won it 29 years ago and a month ago no one had that your running back anywhere on their grid but as some of the top quarterbacks have sputtered down the stretch Williams has just rumbled into contention he's at a monster November historic stats have put him in the 2K Club he's a punishing 230 pounder runs about a 444 he has a 3.0 GPA and he's helped carry Boston College from 2- 10 last year to seven-4 this season here's Todd mcet Boston a city known for its championship teams and passionate fans but in this Sports Town's backyard there's also a serious Heisman Contender emerging one who is barely recognizable even on his own campus last week the Heisman talk it was it was haha funny but you know it's it's getting pretty serious now I think it's a great moment for me and for BC Boston College running back Andre Williams goes through his dat today routine like every other student but on the field he's having one of the best seasons in college football history are you kidding me Andre Williams touchdown there's only been six other backs that have rushed for this kind of yardage his stats are unbelievable and that's with ninan fronts and 10man fronts and everyone in the stadium knows he's going to run it and he still runs it I don't think anyone had any idea that he was going to be rushing for you know 2,000 yards this season so you know it's going of surprise everyone including him Williams leads the nation in rushing with 189 yard per game but his last three performances have been even more remarkable where he's averaging nearly 300 yard not since Barry Sanders has a running back had a month like Williams 1988 the gold standard of a month was set by Barry Sanders so far through three games this month your 77 yards Beyond his Pace how do you wrap your head around that I don't even think I can that's saying a lot you know to be even talked about with the name is greatest Barry Sanders Williams may have trouble explaining his success but the film doesn't lie so this is last week against Maryland number four got the [Applause] message my goodness are you serious that's he's a freshman that's exactly how a freshman year should go that's got to go in the Highlight re right yeah you been running like this all year I've been I've been trying to you know I think I've gotten better as the season that's progressed I just been concentrating on on finishing my runs how do you mean better as it's progressed um I think I I've gotten better at you know finding the best way for me to get yards after contact and you know when I can use a stiff arm on different angles and when I should you know just lower the shoulder Williams is more than a feature back he has a 3.0 GPA he's a teaching assistant for a freshman class and he's even writing his own novel it's called a king a queen in the conscience if I had to put it in a genre I'd say it was a philosophical Memoir I'm really just pointing out the significant moments in my life that shape the way I think about the world it's really going to make for a good story the A train to the end zone and in take Andre Williams give us your pitch why Andre fisman well because he's a he fits the mission statement to the T he's a fantastic football player and he does it with Grace and with dignity and I think he stands for everything that I hold special about college football and I know we all do what's better than having a great football player that loves his team loves his university and is a great student what's better than that
