the life and memory of DeAndre Overton um he was a local kid from uh right here in Greensboro um he played college football at clemon um spent time professionally with the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the CFL and also with Philly G's Philadelphia stars and most recently the Memphis showboats um he was a young man uh only 26 years old tragically he passed away over the weekend after he was shot uh at a house party in Greensboro and if you're a long time viewer of the reala sports podcast you know uh we are definitely against gun violence we've been advocating uh to bring peace uh and gun violence awareness so uh definitely want to stick true to that and bring awareness to him and honor him with this addition of on the mark now kick things in the high gear officially DeAndre want us to do I got a little update for you guys before I get into college football real quick uh rip to the arena football league if you were following us over the spring and the summer I was bringing you the crazy updates and the crazy stories that was going on in that league players weren't getting paid the commissioner went MIA uh they completed their season but the teams who had the most stable uh ownership uh they decided to break away from the arena football league and form their own uh Arena Football League called Arena Football one that is set to launch in 2025 some of the teams involved there are going to be the Albany Firebirds the Billings Outlaws the Orlando Predators and the Washington wolf pack just name a few uh some of those have really good ownership really good attendance so I'm not surprised that they're going to uh carry the torch and and embark on a new era uh former Tennessee Titans suon Oilers head coach uh Jeff fiser I was brought on to be the commissioner of this new week so good luck to them yeah man uh he's the new commissioner uh of the Arena Football one he took over last year after the owners fired the former commissioner Mr Sutton and he got them through to the championship game but they're going to Pivot and go in a New Direction now so good luck to them when they launch in 2025 I'm behind it as long as they keep it in the mall as long as they keep that championship in a mall that's pretty cool bro yeah that was different I can't lie I had never seen nothing like that before it made me thinking WCW Nitro back wrestling be a champ there you go but uh getting into the world of college football man week two college football uh went down over the weekend we had some huge upsets so let's go ahead and get into it the biggest upset of them all man Northern Illinois the Huskies they went in South Bend they went into Notre Dame they came out with the w they beat Notre Dame 16 to 14 on the last second field goal shout out to them not only is it their first uh win against a top 10 team in school history his Notre Dame was ranked number five at the time they also got paid for it they walked away Notre Dame paid them $1.4 million to step into their house and beat them so shout out to Northern Illinois on the biggest win in their program's history and you really love it because their their head coach is one of us so you love to see it even more so shout out to Northern Illinois facts facts now during my great intro by The Host he he failed to mention one detail ladies and gentlemen and that is I am an alumni of the one and only Oklahoma State University baby I represent the Oklahoma State Cowboys who this weekend I think took a couple years off my life no pun intended uh that game is a thriller they welcomed uh from the Southeastern Conference is supposed to be the Crim de Crim in college football they they welcom the Arkansas Razorbacks in the boom picking stadium and they came with with the dub uh the Cowboys rallied from a 21 to7 deficit at halftime to win the game in double overtime 39 to 31 uh they stuffed Arkansas's running back on the fourth and goal and I could not be happier for my Cowboys another win against SEC they now who said that that they would win uhuh Billy G did text me they would win uh I can't lie I can't lie bro at half time host a witness I was sweating tried to screw us out of that game we weren't they shut oi Gordon down but hey my Cowboys came through discipline and toughness is not just a motto it is in our DNA that's what we do uh but shout out really to uh to ton Green Man the the new quarterback at Arkansas that brother was phenomenal he had over 400 yards to the air a touchdown he ran the ball he was all over the place and he was a playmaker shout out to him and also shout out to uh the running back uh Mr Andrew Armstrong as well he had almost 200 yards on the ground he was running all over our defense in the first half they had us in that first half I can't lie um I want to get props to them we came away with the Victory and thankfully I don't have to see Arkansas again until 2027 so thank God for that now to close things out y'all know how we do things on on the that's normally known for basketball when you think of college basketball you think of you know schools like UCLA Duke UNCC and also the Indiana hooers giving us guys like Victor Oladipo just the name a few well they put a licking on Western Illinois final score of that game Western Illinois three the Indiana hooers 77 a 74o beat down that is uh one of the higher scores we've had uh here on on the mark Beatdown of the week so shout out to the hooers shout out to Indiana shout out to the Big 10 a 77 to3 beat down of Western Illinois man hopefully Western Illinois can shake that loss off and get on to the next 77 to three I would have walked off at halftime I ain't gonna lie Von Davis huh I wouldn't quit I wouldn't quit I didn't say all that but we would have been halfway to Western Illinois at halftime like we would have been going back to the west side of Illinois or wherever they located call Uber come all the way down on the track not Uber hell out of here but that is uh on the mark I've been watching the media and everybody's been trying to say oh what's wrong with the Bengals why didn't the Bengals win the Bengals must be really bad instead of giving the attention to them let's Carr that I tried to tell people was really really good Cleveland had him at one point and then the dude that they ditched him for and did deadly poo squat for him but the but the guy that got rid of out there I think I did um I was worried though about puka going down for the Rams but I'd be stupid if I if I thought the Super Bowl winning quarterback not Baker Mayfield um you Pi the Lions huh huh you picked the Lions okay woohoo oh but no um I gotta say it again now let my throat so Mark can hear me the quarterback not named bear Mayfield that won a Super Bowl when he got traded to another team Matthew freaking Stafford Georgia Bulldog he ah just when I thought that he was out of the game man he just showed me why he is who he is Cooper cup showed up as always when he's healthy first game without Aaron Donald and they looked good they looked pretty good what about what about what about this let me let me ask you this phly G my my mind went blank because I'm trying to remember my question for you oh what do you think about what do you think about let's let's go both both sides here with the give me give me your take on the Rams in this game they look solid they looked good on defense without um Aron Donald um the secondary is kind of questionable without Jaylen Ramsey and that's about it h for the Rams what about the lions lions I see them going as far as they did last year again I think you know it's early to say that it's only week one anything can happen this season but the lions look very strong they looked strong in that game and they had grit to the very end it might have taken till overtime for them to win that game on Sunday but they did it running game looked solid the passing game look solid J Mo was going off um we already know what kind of quarterback we got in Jared go but there were some passes that were questionable like why are you forcing it you know well do you think do you think that the the all right so as you can see in the game Matt Stafford and Cooper cup that connection we've been seeing that for years so do you think that the the that connection right now because puk's out for four games that's yeah four games is a whole lot in the NFL so do you think that this that Matt Stafford Cooper cup connection could be enough for the Rams to make it into the playoffs I say just enough so what you say h no they're gonna have to rely on on Cooper cup now Cooper cup is gonna have to carry that team which he can but uh you know but do you think do you think that that Matt Stafford Cooper cup connection is enough to get them into the playoffs it's it's a maybe for me H but then again it's not just Cooper cup that he has like um a wide receiver that he has to throw to he has more weapons on that offense and even the names that they're not looking at I think it was a Jefferson and uh what's his um tight end is it Parkinson yeah Park he's got him yeah yeah no you good you good you good go ahead he's got him uh the uh the Rams last night or Sunday name sorry um and really impressed with both teams got a little bit of concern um with the Lions uh starting with the Rams uh I was incredibly impressed with Matthew Stafford he was out there playing behind the banged up offensive line yeah um he was hobbled himself he had a ankle injury he got early in the game but you really couldn't tell if you watch them play um and I think this is he Sunday night really uh personified the old say angle like in order to be an elite quarterback in the NFL you have to be able to win from the pocket he was making smart reads making smart decisions he knew his old line was banged up he knew his ankle was banged up so he was getting the ball out quick to his first read uh he was rarely like trying to stay back there and like scam the entire field and the throws that he were that he was making were on the money like he didn't really put the ball In Harm's Way even when uh PUK and noua went down Cooper cup picked up right where he left off in 2021 and went off and and their defense really came to play even without you know like Philly G said even without Aaron Don they were still rocking and rolling and had Jared g under constant pressure the entire game so I was actually really impressed with the Rams they were better than what I thought they were going to be this year so I think they can definitely they can keep this momentum going the NFC West is going to be tough uh because all four of those teams are playing really good football right now uh you know the Niners are kind of like the the ks that division but uh I really think uh the Rams have a good shot to try to get back to the playoffs and go hunt for another Super Bowl uh just based off what they did week one against one of the better teams in the conference uh from the Lions perspective I like how uh the running game was incredibly strong both jir Gibbs uh and David Montgomery went off in that game uh your boy from Alabama uh Jameson Williams let say his name right is it Williams or Williamson I think it's Williams J Mo for short but yes Jameson Williams and jir Gibb shout out to him BR your man our man Al Davis would have been looking at that game smiling seeing Jameson Williams play like if you know Al Davis you know he love a speedy wide receiver and that man was just flying down the field uh he was making some spectacular catches and if he can stay healthy and and contribute to them on offense along with that strong running game but that play action pass going to be something mean in Detroit but my concern is still with the offensive side of the ball um number one I know Jared gol was under a lot of pressure during that game but he made some really ill advised throws and his receivers had to bail him out or else those are going to be interceptions like at the end of the game Alan rth St Brown had to literally turn into a DB and swap the ball away if he didn't if that would have been intercepted the Rams would have won would have been no uh no overtime um but I'm also concerned with like where the hell was Alan Ross St Brown in that game uh he completely disappeared he had a very quiet night he's supposed to be their number one receiver um with Jameson Williams being there is that gonna take away some targets some almond raw like how is that gonna balance and work itself out I'm interested to see how they do with that the rest of the year because you need that team in full strength you need them clicking on all cylinders if they're going to go far in the playoffs and lastly on the a very personal note uh y'all been watching on the mark you know I cover the UFL and spring football it felt really damn good uh seeing my main man baits from the Michigan Panthers out there kicking field goals for the Lions man that that made my heart smile shout out to him I'm happy he's getting to live out his dream and play in the NFL so for those who say spring football don't matter and it's lower tier competition ask the Dallas Cowboys in the Detroit line talking about spring football matters so that's my take away from that game I'mma ask you this one since I asked Philly Philly G one but I'm g go with Detroit I'm ask you about Detroit now Detroit Detroit now got a bullseye on them right now they have a bullseye on them but how important is this win starting off the season at home given that the next they got two of the next three games is on the road I think it was good uh for them to get this win in the that they did it because they were tested it wasn't like they steamrolled a cupcake opponent week one or you know you know they didn't to piggy back off what Philly G said you know it's not Derek Carr going off against the the Panthers here they went up against one of the top teams in the NFC uh they had a big lead the Rams came back on a momentum swung the the way and the Lions stood fast stay true to who they were and they came out of the game with the w and getting a win like that and week one is is huge for the rest of the season because it helps set the tone like you know hey we can get off to a really hot start we can be tested a team can come back on us but if we just keep going and keep staying the course we can come out on top each and every time and they proved it so now when they go on the road and they have those tough road games they can look back on their performance week want and know without the shadow doubt we've been here before we can do it again let's go they ain't got nothing to worry about mhm I agree this game I agree with both of you guys the the atmosphere in Detroit is totally different uh this game had a lot of energy uh behind it shout out to the Detroit fans they love their Lions so they should because they came a long way and they've been suffering very very long time bro and for them to to come back like that but you know now you can see Detroit now ining Dan Campbell's energy you can see that now they they they are really a different team um and Jered G is a different quarterback I agree with Philo got you know those those throws they gota be a little bit more better um but but man the the the jets um first things first that undrafted free agent running back they had the Steed in for Christian mcaffry the last minute the brother bald out man he he he went the hell off uh shout out to to Kyle Shanahan because because Joe Buck and troyman kept bringing up that point throughout the game it's something about them Shanah hands man they can turn a late round draft or undrafted Fe AG in the freaking gold man it's unreal um but despite you know the offseason turmoil you know what auk holding out Trent Williams holding out 49ers came out there and they look really strong on both sides of the ball um auk had some drops some uncharacteristic drops but I think that's just because of the rust and him not being uh part of training camp but the dudes that were there during training camp uh they they they were looking sharp on Monday night Brock Pie looked great Jennings look great KD was getting involved like I mentioned the running back the offensive line was doing their thing uh it was a great game all around for San Francisco They controlled the line of scrimmage with the with the senior C Squad that is known as the New York Jets um no say to trigger Aaron Rogers really could have use sometime in the preseason to get in sync with his receivers I don't know why they set him and it was pretty obvious uh off rip he was not in sync with them they had a lot of three and outs um Garrett Wilson was trying to get some momentum and get some rhythm going with Aaron but it just wasn't there because they haven't spent uh hardly any time together you know with Aaron injury and then just him not playing in preseason I think they came back to bite him the defense didn't look as good as I thought they were they got man handled by that San Francisco offensive line any type of run the San Francisco wanted to do whether it was with the running back or with Debo they got it and they got chunks was just some two or three Y games it was P gone down the field so I don't know what the hell is going on robertt solid defense but I I will guarantee this and I'm not trying to overreact because like Philly G keeps mentioning it is only week one hey yo if Aaron roders and and and them don't don't make the playoffs this year I think that whole organization's about to go through a reset like from top to bottom new GM new coach new quarterback everything's got to be redone in New York and I hate to say it they literally wasted a very talented defense behind this crap uh because they couldn't get their quarterback situation straight and then you know offensive line is literally a senior citizen Squad they couldn't move anybody off the ball they got no push in the Run game they were all right pass protecting but you got to be able to run the ball to be able to have a balanced offense and when you can't run it and you're passing every every down and your quarterback isn't in sync with the receivers it's going to be a long season so hopefully they can re X as Mr Rogers likes to say and relax and get it together but if they don't man I think some heads is Gonna Roll Out of New York I think it's gonna be a fire cell for most of their talent man I think dudes are G to start
