Western film directed by Audrey Cummings and starring Heather Graham and Tom Hopper Corin nech Briel Robia and cowboy Saron the film was released on on August 23rd 2024 in January 2023 it was announced that Eric Goslin David Lipper were producers for the film for Gold Rush entertainment and Robert a dolly Jr for Latigo films Audrey Cummings was to direct from a Richard Taylor script with hopper and Graham in lead roles principal photography wrapped in Los Angeles in February 2023 women should be leading more westerns it leads to a different perspective and a change in the content itself the Emmy winning Netflix Min series Godless 2017 certainly helped set some things in motion and the recent Emily Blunt Min series The English was phenomenal in recent years it's fun to see household named Heather Graham Boogie kns The Hangover embraced the genre having recently starred in the last sun and finished filming the Gunslingers with Nicholas Cage and now there's place of Bones a western Thriller touted as a horror Thriller it's actually unfortunate that place of Bones doesn't lean into the horror elements of home invasion movies enough directed by Audrey Cummings and written by Richard Taylor place of Bones is generally straightforward with its Western tropes but Tom Hopper makes for a good villain and the female empowered energy throughout breathes fresh new life into the genre in place of Bones Graham plays a likable takes no crap mom Persona and hasn't lost any of the energy or Charm she displayed 25 years ago in Austin Powers it also helps that she's given a great symbolic name Pandora in her new Western but when we meet her it's already been a tough road for the reclusive Outlaw she's widowed with the place of Bones belonging to her deceased husband Buri just a matter of feet away from her secluded residence in the mountains it's a sad sight but a peaceful one as well with Pandora confidently living within a routine that works alongside her teenage daughter Hester Briel Robia Graham is reliably appealing in everything she appears in here she's Dawning a uniquely Southern accent as she whips her soul Offspring into shape all in the name of safety which of course becomes all the more threatened as we go just like any memorable Western Thriller will promise the threat comes in the form of a Gravely injured Outlaw who we later learn is named calhon Corin Pandora may be already versed in the Axiom when death comes knocking on your door because she doesn't exactly welcome Calhoun impromptu visit once he quite literally collapses at her front stoop with blooded leg torn up by bullets Pandora undoubtedly has a moral Center another reason why we favor the stern mother throughout this story which is why she doesn't exactly kid calhoon to the Wayside upon his unannounced Popin instead she takes him in tends to his wounds and feeds him but place of bones always thrives on a through line of female empowerment which means Pandora won't just bow down to the male before her she means business as depicted through Graham's beautiful but piercing eyes does she age by the way she wants him out ASAP especially since she's clearly intelligent and can pick up on Calhoun's increasing sense of shadiness once he comes to and starts dodging questions about what led him to this lowly State Calhoun as we finally learn is being hunted by a villainous bank robber and his gang of crooks the head honcho who's out for Calhoun's blood is called bear John and he's played with a certain ferocity from the Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper miles away from his recent Charming romcom role in space cadet at least half bear John provokes a healthy dose of shoot M up action in place of Bones just when movie aers might start to fret that things are sadly slowing to a halt at Pandora's home it's certainly comedic watching her and Calhoun vicker and fire Southern draw insults at each other once but the film takes much too long to essentially get to the point and as a result we don't get enough of Tom Hopper's great villain when The Showdown actually happens it fuels the fire in Pandora's Fierce and empowered soul and she more than and holds her own it's great to see Pandora Purge her grief through cathartic acts of violence but it's ultimately a by the Numbers conclusion that plays out in predictable fashion the film needed to lean more into the intense violence that was advertised with place of Bones never approaching the intensity and innovation of must SE Western Thrillers but it's still a serviceable movie with an appreciated focus on the life of a widow westerns seem to be having a Renaissance depending on your view of the genre that's either a good thing or something you're entirely indifferent to at their Best Westerns are small stories told in Epic ways where character and morality are always in the gray and survival is unpredictable the Best Western speak to the ju AOS of integrity and ignorance in the face of lawlessness for a land too large to oversee effectively the sense of Duty and honor often a Hallmark of the genre is also lifted directly from the samurai films in Japan that preceded them much like how the Mandalorian has done for many of their episodes this Resurgence of Western Nostalgia has also given us the chance to see these classic stories from different perspectives which is the case with place of Bones the newest Western Thriller from the Avenue and director Audrey Cummings does it challenge and expand the genre or is it just a hitch in the giddy up as fans of westerns the idea of them getting more representation again is exciting but also worrisome much like the horror genre westerns range wildly in quality and can feel worn out or redundant this matters little to fans of the films but even the die hards will acknowledge that the gap between the greats and not so great is filled with a lot of Soo movies that do some things right while still making some pretty big misses place of Bones is very much in that middle section which is not to say the movie is bad as much as it doesn't offer anything unique or Innovative in its approach with solid directing and admirable performances it is ultimately the script that drags this Homestead down Pandora Heather Graham and Hester Briel Robia alive alone in a secluded home built by the hands of themselves and their deceased husband faither their small slice of Tranquility is disrupted by the arrival of a wounded Bandit Calhoun Corin nech who becomes their reluctant house guest after losing his leg to infection Pandora is resilient and resourceful always mindful to ensure Hester speaks correctly and with dignity gram and Ria have great chemistry in the film and their relationship is one of the stronger aspects of the production nech is entertaining as the wise cracking and Rough Around the Edges Outlaw whose performance occasionally veers into caricature without going over the deep end the cast of Outlaws tracking down calhon are the same archetypes you've seen before and to some extent that is what holds place of Bones back it doesn't try to add a signature to the story so much as it just retreads well-worn ground Pandora is an interesting character and a welcome departure from the standard desolate Cowboy Pandora is tough rational and Vigilant even if the performance doesn't fully demonstrate it especially with an ending that robs her of some glory for the sake of a surprise twist speaking of the ending and the pacing of the film as a whole it wraps up so quickly and with such little Fanfare that by the time the credits roll you feel as though you miss something some of this has to do with the very long leadup to the forecasted confrontation in the synopsis so much about place of Bones hinges on the asso on Precinct 13 style showdown at the end but it takes all of 15 minutes and is quite anticlimactic ironically it isn't fair to say that place of Bones is boring given that it is shot with beautiful Precision making good use of the perfect Desert location which may be more Western asmer than anything else so much time is spent in the story talking about what's coming and by the time it does we are left wanting which brings me back to the script so much of the pacing and action could have been solved in the script by moving the action up sooner than in the last half of the third act and doubling down on the brutality despite being told danger is on Route nothing ever feels dangerous and the stakes never seem high enough there are moments when we see Pandora's craz hopeless look but it isn't consistent and never goes beyond a growl to a full-on bite all in all place of Bones gets the character development and aesthetic right but doesn't deliver fully in the story Department place of Bones takes its time building toward an inevitable Showdown on one side of this Western is a dual Thief who robbed a bank with a gang of Outlaws and subsequently took the money from his cohort on the other is the rest of gang led by the brother of the now dead Posas leader caught up in the middle of this are a widow and her daughter living on a remote and dried up farm with no neighbors of whom to speak and 95 miles from the nearest town the setup of Richard Taylor's screenplay is solid especially since it provides such a sense of isolation and helplessness for Pandora Heather grah and her daughter Hester Briel Robia who have somehow survived alone and without any obvious resources or any clear way of obtaining them if they wanted to in theory they can make do with what's at hand since they both seem healthy and not at all concerned with how they're going to get their next meal indeed Hester just wants a chance to see more of the world than her little home while Pandora's main worry is that her daughter occasionally doesn't use proper grammar when she speaks these are not the concerns of desperate people the thieves though at a component of danger they might not have faced until now they're ruthless in ways the two might suspect but of which can't quite be entirely certain the thief Hester finds near the farm for example admits he and his gang robbed a bank that the robbery turned violent and that he did Kill the other members of his posi Calhoun Corin neic insists though that he had to do all of these things in order to survive surely Pandora and Hester can at least comprehend some of that if anyone given their present circumstances there are a few Revelations here as the story which is unfortunately repetitive by way of its enclosed nature progresses but none of them save for one is much of a surprise that's fine of course because the one genuine shock of the story is so consequential but comes so late in the movie that there is no time for it to be explored or even for its significance to this tale to really register it might explain a thing or two about why events happen the way they do but that thought could be a stretch if it's Taylor's intention however it feels like an even bigger stretch anyway the final beat of this story is ultimately irrelevant if only because it comes across as a random albeit rather Wicked surprise for its own sake for the most part Taylor and director Audrey Cummings use the limited backdrop the basic premise and the Dynamics between these characters for a battle of wills and wits which gradually Rises toward a more straightforward kind of battle as the vengeful greedy gang makes their way to the Farm as such it's initially compelling because it presents us with two parties who should be at odds and still are simply because they're so different but have to reconcile their differences on account of the looming threat Pandora is a Harden religiously devout woman whose only motives are to protect her daughter the farm and herself and maybe in that order she has done a good job after the death of her husband and while nothing is growing on the farm she's hopeful things will turn around for the place while visiting her father grave the morning after hearing a distant gunfight Hester finds Calhoun badly wounded by multiple gunshots Pandora tends to those wounds including a leg shattered by a bullet as well as she can and when Calhoun comes to he explains about the bank robbery and the sadle bag filled with cash he took from his gang Pandora is willing to let him leave without his twice Otten gains but once Calhoun points out that notorious bear John Tom Hooper will be looking for the money and him Pandora realizes she and could probably use the injured Outlaws help if the criminal and his posi arrive Pandora and Calhoun argue a lot about his lack of morals and her moral stubbornness his traitorously Wy nature and her Stern bedside Manner and his insistence on getting out of here with the cash and her refusal to let a bad man get away with his foul Deeds the performances here make it work on a foundational level with graham as a woman who has become harsh out of necessity anemic showing the easy charm of a man whose words cannot be trusted quickly though the characters start talking in the same circles since there's not much for them to say and even less for them to do until bear John and his gang currently tracking Calhoun arrive they're a nasty Bunch as a scene at their Camp shows but when they discover the Dead gang members we realize Calhoun might not be the mere Thief he presents himself as such details don't play into the dynamic at the farm because there is after all the requisite Showdown which is smartly staged to get not to mention that final Revelation place of Bones may be patient in getting there but it doesn't quite fulfill the potential of its suspenseful character Focus setup Heather Graham returns to the Western genre with place of Bones Graham has explored a variety of genres throughout her celebrated career ranging from her early work in Gus Van Sans crime drama Drugstore Cowboy to John fao's buddy comedy swingers David Lynch and Mark Frost surreal Mystery Show Twin Peaks and Mike Myers Austin Powers The Spy Who shagged me among others situated among these are two prior Ventures as Calhoun Briel Robia as Pandora's daughter Hester and cowboy Saron as a member of bear John's gang hailing from she never die director Ashley Cummings the movie offers a refreshingly female driven approach to the Western genre in the same vein as Vigo mortenson's the dead don't hurt while also featuring a surprising ending twist in honor of the movie's release Screen Rant interviewed Heather about a mother and her daughter surviving on a remote Ranch in the Wild West Hester often complained to her mama about the scarcity of food with the nearest town 95 Mi Due West the mother and daughter barely had any resources to feed on but Pandora believed that God would provide them with food and they must never stop having faith in his Miracle every morning Hester visited her father's grave on the hill next to the ranch even though their land was Barren she was hopeful that if she continued to perform her daily chores with complete dedication they would manage to survive Hester and Pandora's lives took a turn when they came across a stranger on their Ranch he was badly wounded and they dragged into their house Hester and Pandora's biggest fear was the threat of the Outlaws and they were hopeful that the stranger they brought home would help them understand if they were in danger The Stranger Hester and Pandora had dragged into their home was a bandit named Calhoun he had recently stolen money from a bank and several Outlaws were already searching for him Pandora pulled out the bullet from Calhoun's leg and tended to his wound Calhoun did not expect to be in the company of two women and he was a little startled at first he assumed Pandora was interested in the money in his saddle bag but she firmly stated that she did not want any share of his stolen cash Calhoun defended himself stating that he and his friend Bob Kenny were going through desperate times and that was the reason why they stole money from the Union Bank Bob was shot dead as soon as they left the bank located on valty W the locals followed Calhoun but he managed to get away and to protect himself he ended up killing three men even though he was in a safe place he could not shrug off the idea that Pandora could take advantage of him he had a bag full of cash and he could not walk because of his leg injury there was nothing stopping her from taking the money he even offered her a little cash to feed him meat but Pandora refused he pulled his gun out of his saddle bag and threatened the mother but she told him that she had already taken out the ammunition the next morning Calhoun woke up to find that his leg had been amputated he screamed in pain and anger Pandora explained that he developed a ganging infection in his leg and she had no choice but to chop it off Calhoun could not believe that Pandora operated on him without asking for his permission he was concerned that his inability to move without assistance would make him all the more vulnerable even though it seemed Pandora and Hester were looking after their guest as good Christians are expected to Calhoun continued to be suspicious of the pair Pandora offered to walk him to Buffalo Creek and buy him a horse a saddle a bottle of whiskey and a change of clothes simply because she wanted him gone the proposal was too good to be true for calh and he wondered what her ulterior motive was Pandora explained that she expected Calhoun to give her details of the men who had followed him to the ranch the previous night as it turned out Calhoun had lied about his friend Bob Kenny Bob was with him along with Tech masters and Ed single and they had managed to escape from the town where they stole the cash the four got drunk that night and soon they lost control of their greed and the shooting began When the Smoke cleared Calhoun realized that he was the only one who had survived but Pandora soon found out that the trouble was not yet over Calhoun's friend Bob Kenny had a brother bear John a popular Outlaw known for his ruthless nature Calhoun believed that bear John would seek revenge if he found out that Calhoun had killed his brother bear John knew about the robbery and according to their plan they were all supposed to meet the next day Pandora guessed that bear John would arrive at her Ranch to seek revenge and he was not alone he was accompanied by three other men he had a Tracker Cherokee Jack Miner Wilson known for his vicious nature and Little Pete the harmless one of the lck Calhoun suggested the mother and daughter run away but Hester and Pandora had no intention of doing so instead they planned on fighting The Outlaws Pandora explained that she and her husband had built the ranch and she would never leave the place while the land had turned Barren over the years they once had a farm there with cattle and horses the place was a treasure Trove of memories for Pandora and she wanted to hold on to it till her last breath pester Pandora and Calhoun prepared to face the Outlaws while testing an old riffle they had at home Calhoun mentioned that his friends t Masters and Bob Kenny had great rifles and all of a sudden Hester came up with a plan she did not discuss it with her mother knowing that she would end up worrying about her Hester headed out alone in the desert in search of Calhoun's three friends who had died in a shootout after walking a long way she finally found the bodies and she grabbed hold of the rifles she did not expect one of the men to be still alive and she ended up stoning him to death when bear John came across the dead body of his brother he was determined to seek Vengeance according to his tracker calhon had betrayed his companions and ran away with the money he first shot Tech when he was fast asleep and he eventually killed the remaining two jerky Jack followed the footprints of Hester and they ultimately reached the ranch Hester was forced to lock herself in the barn and she stabbed Cherokee Jack when he attempted to kill her Pandora and the Outlaws tried to come to an agreement she was ready to hand over the saddle bag if they Dro their weapons but of course both parties knew the situation would not be resolved as easily Hester shot Cherokee and soon a gunfight broke out day had turned into dust and Pandora decided to help Hester step out of the barn bear John had been waiting for such a moment and the mother and daughter were immediately attacked while Hester managed to find her way back to her house Pandora ended up blocking herself in the smok house bear John struck her and Pandora was left unconscious johned dragged Pandora into the house and shot Calhoun he repeatedly kicked Pandora and assumed that the mother was now too weak to attack him John approached Hester and threatened to sexually assault her but thankfully her mother came to her Rescue Jon did not realize that Pandora was a strong woman who would do anything to protect the ranch and her daughter she had the cash in her hand and she threatened to burn it down to distract John The Outlaw promised not to attack her if she handed him the money but she could not trust him Jon cautioned her that he would kill her and her daughter if she burned the money Pandora had already started dropping the bundles of cash into the fire when Jon reached for his gun unexpectedly Calhoun stabbed The Outlaw with a pitchfork and bear Jon collapsed to the floor Calhoun was bleeding and he had no chance of survival Pandora thanked The Stranger for helping them Calhoun was proud of at least dying protecting a mother and her child he begged Pandora to bury him with his chopped off leg because he believed a would not get to meet Hades to his surprise Pandora responded that she had not stored his leg instead he had already fed him the meat this was not the twist calhon or even the audience expected Pandora and Hester had run out of meat and the stranger came to their rescue given that the nearest town was over 90 Mi away and they did not have a horse to ride there it only made sense that Pandora and her daughter had been relying on such blessings for quite some time she did not care about the money as long as Calhoun's presence guaranteed men for them to kill maybe Calhoun's leg was not infected by ganging maybe Pandora amputated his leg to immobilize him during place of Bones ending Hester grabbed a knife and slit Calhoun's throat they no longer needed him alive Pandora thanked God for providing them with food that would last them a long time she chopped the bodies of Calhoun and the Outlaws in the smok house while Hester as a sign of respect buried Calhoun's severed head in the ground Calhoun's dream of meeting the Greek god of the underworld assumably remained unfulfilled place of Bones ending confirms that Pandora and Hester were cannibals Pandora's overprotectiveness of her daughter was also quite concerning her nature was similar to that of her father who did not approve of Pandora and her husband's relationship and their decision to build a ranch Pandora despised her father because he had always tried to own her she was thankful to her husband for saving her from her father but unfortunately he was soon killed Pandora's father had hired a killer who came by their Ranch and shot her husband in front of her and her daughter Pandora killed the man and we can assume that that was her first desperate Act of survival it had been four years since her husband passed away and they had consumed all their cattle and horses and were waiting for a blessing Calhoun might not be the first man they have hunted given how confident and strategic the mother and daughter had been in their planning they waited for Bandits to come by their Ranch for help and they were grateful to God for always providing them with just enough food Pandora never allowed Hester to leave the ranch perhaps it was her overprotectiveness or maybe she feared her daughter would leave her for a man like she once did but Hester was a curious young woman who perhaps would one day leave her mother's Nest to discover the world beyond their Ranch will Pandora act the way her father once did we can only hope for the best place of Bones is is described as a horror Western leaning towards Western the film stars Heather grahami nights as Pandora possibly a play on Pandora's Box a mother who along with her daughter Hester Briel Robia lives quietly on their Ranch in the desert their simple way of living is chaos when a wounded Outlaw named kalhan Corin nimic seeks Refuge from a group of well-known bank robbers on Pandora's Ranch the robbers bear John Tom Hopper minor Wilson Donald cowboy Sone and others attempt to reclaim their stolen Fortune something about the notion of isolation drives home feelings of panic desperation and fear whether in Space the ocean or even desert Land The Singularity of one self- hits home this is something that director Audrey Cummings jinny and Georgia and writer Richard Taylor Stingray convey perfectly to the audience the chance that no one will hear screams of help comes through tenfold heck Pandora even says at one point to Calhoun we don't have a horse this shows they are all stuck in this location the film does suffer from an over dialogue heavy First Act but picks up speed during the beginning of the third act this isn't to say that earlier conversations throughout the film aren't important to the plot they do set the stage for the best part the final showdown so to speak the Final Act hearkens back to many dramatic films assault on percent 13 Prince of Darkness and Evil Dead the fight or flight feeling is constantly tugging at the cast until finally they dedicate themselves to fight mode Heather Graham is always a joy to watch perform she easily Dawn the protective mother here there's also a hardness to her that lies right at skin level a glowing don't mess with me or else demeanor cor and nec's name may ring a bell he was the lead in the classic television show Parker Lewis Can't Lose I've enjoyed nec's work in other films and was happy to see he was playing an outlaw neem's character Calhoun is a mbag baddy meaning not everything is as it seems through conversations in the film Calhoun goes from Angry for good reason Pandora amputated his wounded leg while he was unconscious he later comes to terms with his loss and becomes a vital part of their survival Tom Hopper the Umbrella Academy plays the cold-hearted bank robber bear John he's crude rude and full of tude Pandora and John clash as neither are willing to concede their stance Jon wants the money and Pandora wants survival the film ends strong and satisfying place of Bones is a decent film worth watching for the disheartening feeling of isolation Heather Graham is strong and plays well with Corin nech they have great chemistry Tom Hopper is quality in his role as the menacing bear John he stands toe-to-toe in a dramatic tour to force in the wild west Heather Graham's versatile career in Hollywood has landed her in films across every genre whether opposite Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin in comedies like B finger or Gary Oldman in sci-fi Adventures like Lost in Space she's well known for her charismatic bubbly character roles but in recent years Graham has been revisiting the horror Community flexing different acting muscles as tried to make sure sticks with her daughter Hester Briel Rabia it's never trust a stranger especially if that stranger is a man the pair have long been surviving on their Ranch far off the beaten path with only their own wits muscle their work ethic to keep them alive and Pandora knows that when others get involved it brings drama and danger that she's just not looking for in a cruel twist of fate after the pair of women discover a deeply wounded Outlaw Corin nech on their property with a bag of money affixed to his side they realize their quiet and peaceful lives are about to be overrun by Outsiders and these aren't just any Outsiders as the men who've come looking for the downed Outlaw and his cash stash are a Cutthroat gang led by a notorious bank robber Tom Hopper but this gang of deplorables don't know that they've met their match with a mother and daughter Duo who know no other reality than one that has forced them to fight to survive photography wrapped in Los Angeles in February 2023 women should be leading more westerns it leads to a different perspective and a change in the content itself the Emmy winning Netflix miniseries Godless 2017 certainly helped set some and director Audrey Cummings does it challenge and expand the genre or is it just a hitch in the GID up as fans of westerns the idea of them getting more representation again is exciting but also worrisome much like the horror genre westerns range wildly in quality and can feel worn out or redundant this matters little to fans of the films but but even the die hards will acknowledge that the gap between the greats and not so greats is filled with a lot of so so movies that do some things right while still making some pretty big misses place of Bones is very much in that middle section which is not to say the movie is bad as much as it doesn't offer anything unique or Innovative in its approach with solid directing and admirable performances it is ultimately the script that drags this Homestead down Pandora Heather Graham and Hester Briel Robia alive alone in a secluded home built by the hands of themselves and their deceased husband faither their small slice of Tranquility is disrupted by the arrival of a wounded Bandit Calhoun Corin nech who becomes their reluctant house guest after losing his leg to infection Pandora is resilient and resourceful always mindful to ensure Hester speaks correctly and with dignity Graham and Robia have great chemistry in the film and their relationship is one of the stronger aspects of the production mimc is entertaining as the wise cracking and rough around the edges Outlaw whose performance occasionally veers into caricature without going over the deep end the cast of Outlaws tracking down calhon are the same archetypes you've seen before and to some extent that is what holds place of Bones back it doesn't try to add a signature to the story so much as it just retreads well-worn ground Pandora is an interesting character and a welcome departure from the standard desolate Cowboy Pandora is tough rational and Vigilant even if the performance doesn't fully demonstrated especially with an ending that robs her of some glory for the sake of a surprise twist speaking of the ending and the pacing of the film as a whole it wraps up so quickly and with such little Fanfare that by the time the credits roll you feel as though you miss something some of this has to do with the very long leadup to the forecasted confrontation in the synopsis so much about place of Bones hinges on the asso on Precinct 13 style showdown at the end but it takes all of 15 minutes and is quite anticlimactic ironically it isn't fair to say that place of Bones is boring given that it is shot with beautiful Precision making good use of the perfect Desert location which may be more Western asmer than anything else so much time is spent in the story talking about what's coming and by the time it does we are left wanting which brings me back to the script so much of the pacing and action could have been solved in the script by moving the action up sooner than the last half of the third act and doubling down on the brutality despite being told danger is on Route nothing ever feels dangerous and the stakes never seem high enough there are moments when we see Pandora's crazed hopeless look but it isn't consistent and never goes beyond a growl to a full-on bite all in all place of Bones gets the character development and aesthetic right but doesn't deliver fully in the story Department place of Bones takes its time building toward an inevitable Showdown on one side of this Western is a dual Thief who robbed a a bank with a gang of Outlaws and subsequently took the money from his cohorts on the other is the rest of gang led by the brother of the now dead P's leader caught up in the middle of this are a widow and her daughter living on a remote and dried up farm with no neighbors of whom to speak and 95 miles from the nearest town the setup of Richard Taylor's screenplay is solid especially since it provides such a sense of isolation and helplessness for Pandora Heather Graham and her daughter Hester Briel Robia who have somehow survived alone and without any obvious resources or any clear way of obtaining them if they wanted to in theory they can make do with what's at hand since they both seem healthy and not at all concerned with how they're going to get their next meal indeed Hester just wants a chance to see more of the world than her little home while Pandora's main worry is that her daughter occasionally doesn't use proper grammar when she speaks these are not the concerns of desperate people the thieves though at a component of danger they might not have faced until now they're ruthless in ways the two might suspect but of which can't quite be entirely certain the thief Hester finds near the farm for example admits he and his gang robbed a bank that the robbery turned violent and that he did Kill the other members of his posi Calhoun Corin nimic insists though that he had to do all of these things in order to survive surely Pandora and Hester can at least comprehend some of that if anyone can given their present circumstances there are a few Revelations here as the story which is unfortunately repetitive by way of its enclosed nature progresses but none of them safe for one is much of a surprise that's fine of course because the one genuine shock of the story is so consequential but comes so late in the movie that there is no time for it to be explored or even for its significance to this tale to really register it might explain a thing or two about why events happen the way they do but that thought could be a stretch if it's Taylor's intention however it feels like an even bigger stretch anyway the final beat of this story is ultimately irrelevant if only because it comes across as a random albeit rather Wicked surprise for its own sake for the most part Taylor and director Audrey Cummings use the limited backdrop the basic premise and the Dynamics between these characters for a battle of wills and wits which gradually Rises toward a more straightforward kind of battle as the vengeful greedy gang makes their way to the farm as such it's initially compelling because it presents us with two parties who should be at odds and still are simply because they're so different but have to reconcile their differences on account of the looming threat Pandora is a hardened religiously devout woman whose only motives are to protect her daughter the farm and herself and maybe in that order she has done a good job after the death of her husband and while nothing is growing on the farm she's hopeful things will turn around for the place while visiting her father's grave the morning after hearing a distant gunfight finds Calhoun badly wounded by multiple gunshots Pandora tends to those wounds including a leg shattered by a bullet as well as she can and when Calhoun comes to he explains about the bank robbery and the saddle bag filled with cash he took from his gang Pandora is willing to let him leave without his twice ill-gotten gains but once Calhoun points out that notorious bear John Tom Hooper will be looking for the money and him Pandora realizes she and Hester could probably use the injured Outlaws help if the criminal and his posy arrive Pandora and Calhoun argue a lot about his lack of morals and her moral stubbornness his traitorously wiy nature and her Stern bedside Manner and his insistence on getting out of here with the cash and her refusal to let a bad man get away with his foul Deeds the performances here make it work on a foundational level with graham as a woman who has become harsh out of necessity and nimic showing the easy charm of a man whose words cannot be trusted quickly though the character start talking in the same circles since there's not much for them to say and even less for them to do until bear John and his gang currently tracking calhoon arrive they're a nasty Bunch as a scene at their Camp shows but when they discover the Dead gang members we realized Calhoun might not be the mere Thief he presents himself as such details don't play into the dynamic at the farm because there is after all the requisite Showdown which is smartly staged to get to not to mention that final Revelation place a bone bones may be patient in getting there but it doesn't quite fulfill the potential of its suspenseful character Focus setup Heather Graham returns to the Western genre with place of Bones Graham has explored a variety of genres throughout her celebrated career ranging from her early work in Gus Van Sans crime drama Drugstore Cowboy to John fav's buddy strength of its characters and the immersive setting the Simplicity of the narrative enhances its charm making it accessible while keeping the focus on the central conflict and emotional Stakes the storyline develops organically ensuring that each moment feels meaningful without overwhelming the viewer with too many moving Parts the acting is notably strong with each performance contributing to the film's gripping atmosphere Heather Graham shines as Pandora portraying her character with a delicate balance of strength and vulnerability Graham brings an emotional depth to Pandora allowing the audience to connect with her as she navigates the dangerous and unpredictable situations she faces Tom Hopper delivers a menacing performance as bear John the ruthless leader of the bandits his presence on screen exudes a palpable sense of danger with hopper effortlessly embodying the cold calculating villain whose sheer force of will makes him a formidable antagonist the tension escalates mother and her daughter surviving on a remote Ranch in the wild west Hester often complained to her mama about the scarcity of food with the nearest town 95 Mi Due West the mother and daughter barely had any resources to feed on but Pandora believed that God would provide them with food and they must never stop having faith in his Miracle every morning Hester visited her father's grave on the hill next to the ranch even though their land was Barren she was hopeful that if she continued to perform her daily chores with complete dedication they would manage to survive Hester and Pandora's lives took a turn when they came across a stranger on their Ranch he was badly wounded and they dragged him to their house Hester and Pandora's biggest fear was the threat of the Outlaws and they were hopeful that the stranger they brought home would help them understand if they were in danger The Stranger Hester and Pandora had dragged into their home was a bandit named Calhoun he had recently stolen money from a bank and several Outlaws were already searching for him Pandora pulled out the bullet from Calhoun's leg and tended to his wound Calhoun did not expect to be in the company of two women and he was a little startled at first he assumed Pandora was interested in the money in his saddle bag but she firmly stated that she did not want any share of his stolen cash Calhoun defended himself stating that he and his friend Bob Kenny were going through desperate times and that was the reason why they stole money from the Union Bank Bob was shot dead as soon as they left the bank located on valty way the locals followed Calhoun but he managed to get away and to protect himself he ended up killing three men even though he was in a safe place he could not shrug off the idea that Pandora could take advantage of him he had a bag full of cash and he could not walk because of his leg injury there was nothing stopping her from taking the money he even offered her a little cash to feed him meat but Pandora refused he pulled his gun out of his saddle bag and threatened the mother but she told him that she had already taken out the ammunition the next morning C woke up to find that his leg had been amputated he screamed in pain and anger Pandora explained that he developed a ganging infection in his leg and she had no choice but to chop it off Calhoun could not believe that Pandora operated on him without asking for his permission he was concerned that his inability to move without assistance would make him all the more vulnerable even though it seemed Pandora and Hester were looking after their guest as good Christians are expected to Calhoun continued to be suspicious of of the pair Pandora offered to walk him to Buffalo Creek and buy him a horse a saddle a bottle of whiskey and a change of clothes simply because she wanted him gone the proposal was too good to be true for Calhoun and he wondered what her ulterior motive was Pandora explained that she expected Calhoun to give her details of the men who had followed him to the ranch the previous night as it turned out Calhoun had lied about his friend Bob Kenny Bob was with him along with Tech masters and Ed single toy and they had managed to escape from the town where they stole the cash the four got drunk that night and soon they lost control of their greed and the shooting began When the Smoke cleared Calhoun realized that he was the only one who had survived but Pandora soon found out that the trouble was not yet over Calhoun's friend Bob Kenny had a brother bear John a popular Outlaw known for his ruthless nature Calhoun believed that bear John would seek revenge if he found out that Calhoun had killed his brother bear John knew about the robbery and according to their plan they were all supposed to meet the next day Pandora guessed that bear John would arrive at her Ranch to seek revenge and he was not alone he was accompanied by three other men he had a Tracker Cherokee Jack Miner Wilson known for his vicious nature and Little Pete the harmless one of the lot Calhoun suggested the mother and daughter run away but Hester and Pandora had no intention of doing so instead they planned on fighting the Outlaws Pandora explained that she and her husband had built the ranch and she would never leave the place while the land had turned Barren over the years they once had a farm there with cattle and horses the place was a treasure Trove of memories for Pandora and she wanted to hold on to it till her last breath huster Pandora and Calhoun prepared to face the Outlaws while testing an old riffle they had at home Calhoun mentioned that his friends Tech masters and Bob Kenny had great rifles and all of all of a sudden Hester came up with a plan she did not discuss it with her mother knowing that she would end up worrying about her Hester headed out alone in the desert in search of Calhoun's three friends who had died in a shootout after walking a long way she finally found the bodies and she grabbed hold of the rifles she did not expect one of the men to be still alive and she ended up stoning him to death when bear John came across the dead body of his brother he was determined to seek Vengeance according to to his tracker calone had betrayed his companions and ran away with the money he first shot Tech when he was fast asleep and he eventually killed the remaining two Cherokee Jack followed the footprints of Hester and they ultimately reached the ranch Hester was forced to lock herself in the barn and she stabbed Cherokee Jack when he attempted to kill her Pandora and the Outlaws tried to come to an agreement she was ready to hand over the saddle bag if they dropped their weapons but of course both parties knew the situation would not be resolved as easily Hester shot Cherokee and soon a gunfight broke out day had turned into Dusk and Pandora decided to help Hester step out of the barn bear John had been waiting for such a moment and the mother and daughter were immediately attacked while Hester managed to find her way back to her house Pandora ended up locking herself in the Smoke House bear John struck her and Pandora was left unconscious Jon dragged Pandora into the house and shot Calhoun he repeatedly kicked Pandora and assumed that the mother was now too weak to attack him John approached Hester and threatened to sexually assault her but thankfully her mother came to her rescue John did not realize that Pandora was a strong woman who would do anything to protect the ranch and her daughter she had the cash in her hand and she threatened to burn it down to distract Jon The Outlaw promised not to attack her if she handed him the money but she could not trust him John cautioned her that he would kill her and her daughter if she burned the money Pandora had already started dropping the bundles of cash into the fire when Jon reached for his gun unexpectedly Calhoun stabbed The Outlaw with a pitchfork and bear John collapsed to the floor Calhoun was bleeding and he had no chance of survival Pandora thanked The Stranger for helping them Calhoun was proud of at least dying protecting a mother and her child he begged Pandora to bury him with his chopped off leg because he believed a would not get to meet Hades to his surprise Pandora responded that she had not stored his leg instead he had already fed him the meat this was not the twist calhoon or even the audience expected Pandora and Hester had run out of meat and the stranger came to their rescue given that the nearest town was over 90 Mi away and they did not have a horse to ride there it only made sense that Pandora and her daughter had been relying on such blessings for quite some time she did not care about the money as long as Calhoun's presence guaranteed men for them to kill maybe Calhoun's leg was not infected by ganger maybe Pandora amputated his leg to a mobilize him during place of Bone's ending Hester grabbed a knife and slit Calhoun's throat they no longer needed him alive Pandora thanked God for providing them with food that would last them a long time she chopped the bodies of Calhoun and the Outlaws in the smok house while Hester as a sign of respect buried Calhoun's severed head in the ground Calhoun's dream meeting the Greek god of the underworld assumably remained unfulfilled place of Bones ending confirms that Pandora and Hester were cannibals Pandora's overprotectiveness of her daughter was also quite concerning her nature was similar to that of her father who did not approve of Pandora and her husband's relationship and their decision to build a ranch Pandora despised her father because he had always tried to own her she was thankful to her husband for saving her from her father but unfortunately he was soon killed Pandora's father had hired a killer who came by their Ranch and shot her husband in front of her and her daughter Pandora killed the man and we can assume that that was her first desperate Act of survival it had been 4 years since her husband passed away and they had consumed all their cattle and horses and were waiting for a blessing Calhoun might not be the first man they have hunted given how confident and strategic the mother and daughter had been in their planning they waited for Bandits to come by their Ranch for help and they were grateful to God for always providing them with just enough food Pandora never allowed Hester to leave the ranch perhaps it was her overprotectiveness or maybe she feared her daughter would leave her for a man like she once did but Hester was a curious young woman who perhaps would one day leave her mother's Nest to discover the world beyond their Ranch will Pandora act the way her father once did we can only hope for the best place of Bones is described as a horror Western leaning towards Western the film stars Heather Graham boy nights as Pandora possibly a play on Pandora's Box a mother who along with her daughter Hester Briel Robia lives quietly on their Ranch in the desert their simple way of living is chaos when a wounded Outlaw named kongor and nimic seeks Refuge from a group of well-known bank robbers on Pandora's Ranch the robbers bear John Tom Hopper minor Wilson Donald cowboy seron and others attempt to reclaim their stolen Fortune something about the notion of isol drives home feelings of panic desperation and fear whether in Space the ocean or even desert Land The Singularity of one sell kits home this is something that director Audrey Cummings Jenny in Georgia and writer Richard Taylor Stingray convey perfectly to the audience the chance that no one will hear screams of help comes through tenfold heck Pandora even says at one point to Calhoun we don't have a horse this shows they are all stuck in this location the film does suff from an over dialogue heavy First Act but picks up speed during the beginning of the third act this isn't to say that earlier conversations throughout the film aren't important to the plot they do set the stage for the best part the final showdown so to speak the Final Act hearkens back to many dramatic films assault on percent 13 Prince of Darkness and Evil Dead the fight or flight feeling is constantly tugging at the cast until finally they dedicate themselves to fight mode Graham is always a joy to watch perform she easily Dawn the protective mother here there's also a hardness to her that lies right at skin level a glowing don't mess with me or else demeanor Corin nec's name may ring a bell he was the lead in the classic television show Parker Lewis Can't Lose I've enjoyed nec's work in other films and was happy to see he was playing an outlaw neem's character Calhoun is a Miss bag baddy meaning not everything is as it seems through conversations in the film Calhoun goes from Angry for good reason Pandora amputated his wounded leg while he was unconscious he later comes to terms with his loss and becomes a vital part of their survival Tom Hopper the Umbrella Academy plays the coldhearted bank robber bear John he's crude rude and full of tude Pandora and JN clash as neither are willing to concede their stance JN wants the money and Pandora wants survival the film ends strong and satisfying place bones is a decent film worth watching for the disheartening feeling of isolation Heather Graham is strong and plays well with Corin neac they have great chemistry Tom Hopper is quality in his role as the menacing bear John he stands toe-to-toe in a dramatic tour to force in the wild west Heather Graham's versatile career in Hollywood has landed her in films across every genre whether opposite Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin in comedies like Bowfinger or Gary Oldman in sci-fi Adventures like lost and space she's well known for her charismatic bubbly character roles but in recent years Graham has been revisiting the horror Community flexing different acting muscles as the leading lady in features like last year love craft and suitable flesh and now a gritty Western Thriller from director Audrey Cummings place of Bones after our advanced screening for place of Bones colliders Perry nerov had the opportunity to sit down with graham for an exclusive queue and to discuss why the actress has found a special place in her heart for Horror in addition to digging into the making of This independent project and working with co-stars Briel Ria the silencing Tom Hopper the Umbrella Academy and Corin nimex Stargate sg1 Graham teases her next Johan reender they will kill you with zy Beats Deadpool 2 and Patricia are K Bonzo girl the old way of westerns is over and collider is thrilled to give our readers the chance to win Advan screening passes to the Avenue's horror Western Place of Bones and see how these women and handled the West before it fires into theaters Not only will you be among the first people to see the latest action pack feature to come from director Audrey Cummings but those lucky winners will also be treated to a cue and it a follow with the film star the one and only Heather Graham Boogie Night Bobby if there's one lesson Pandora Graham has tried to make sure sticks with her daughter Hester Briel Robia it's never trust a stranger especially if that stranger is a man the pair have long been surviving on their Ranch far off the beaten path with only their own wits muscle and work ethic to keep them alive and Pandora knows that when others get involved it brings drama and danger that she's just not looking for in a cruel twist of fate after the pair of women discover a deeply wounded Outlaw Corin nech on their property with a bag of money AFF fix to his side they realize their quiet and peaceful lives are about to be overrun by Outsiders and these aren't just any Outsiders as the men who've come looking for the downed Outlaw and his cash sta are a Cutthroat gang led by a notorious bank robber Tom Hopper but this gang of deplorables don't know that they've met their match with a mother and daughter Duo who know no other reality than one that has forced them to fight to survive directed by Audrey Cummings and written by Richard Taylor place of Bones is generally straightforward with its Western tropes but Tom Hopper makes for a good villain and the female empowered energy throughout breathes fresh new life into the genre in place of Bones Graham plays a likable takes no crap mom Persona and hasn't lost any of the energy or Charm she displayed 25 years ago in Austin Powers it also helps that she's given a great symbolic name Pandora in her new Western but when we meet her it's already been a tough road for the reclusive Outlaw she's widowed with the place of Bones belonging to her deceased husband buried just a matter of feet away from her secluded residence in the mountains it's a sad sight but a peaceful one as well with Pandora confidently living within a routine that works alongside her teenage daughter Hester Briel Robia Graham is reliably appealing in everything she appears in here she's Dawning a uniquely southern accent as she whips her soul Offspring into shape all in the name of safety which of course becomes all the more threatened as we go just like any memorable Western Thriller will promise the threat comes in the form of a Gravely injured Outlaw who we later learned is named Calhoun Corin NEC Pandora may be already vers in the Axiom when death comes knocking on your door because she doesn't exactly welcome Calhoun's impromptu visit once he quite literally collapses at her front stoop with blooded leg torn up by bullets Pandora undoubtedly has a moral Center another reason why we favor the stern mother throughout this story which is why she doesn't exactly kick Calhoun to the Wayside upon his unannounced Popin instead she takes him in tends to his wounds and feeds him but place of bones always thrives on a through line of female empowerment which means Pandora won't just bow down to the mail before her she means business as depicted through Graham's beautiful but piercing eyes does she age by the way she wants him out ASAP especially since she's clearly intelligent and can pick up on calhoon's increasing sense of shadiness once he comes to and starts dodging questions about what led him to this lowly State Calhoun as we finally learn is being hunted by a villainous bank robber and his gang of crooks the head honcho who's out for Calhoun's blood is called bear John and he's played with a certain ferocity from the Umbrella Academy star Tom Hopper miles away from his recent Charming romcom role in space cadet at least Hopper bear John provokes a healthy dose of shoot M up action in place of Bones just when movie aor might start to fret that things are sadly slowing to a halt at Pandora's home it's certainly comedic watching her and coun bicker and fire Southern draw insults at each other once but the film takes much too long to essentially get to the point and as a result we don't get enough of Tom Hopper's great villain when The Showdown actually happens it fuels the fire in Pandora's Fierce and empowered soul and she more than holds her own it's great to see Pandora Purge her grief through cathartic acts of violence but it's ultimately a by the Numbers conclusion that plays out in predictable fashion the film needed to lean more into the intense violence that was advertise with place of Bones never approaching the intensity and innovation of must Western thrillers but it's still a serviceable movie with an appreciated focus on the life of a widow westerns seem to be having a Renaissance depending on your view of the genre that's either a good thing or something you're entirely indifferent to at their Best Westerns are small stories told in Epic ways where character and morality are always in the gray and survival is unpredictable the Best Western speak to the juxa position of integrity and ignorance in the face of lawlessness for a land too large to oversee effectively the sense of Duty and honor often a Hallmark of the genre is also lifted directly from the samurai films in Japan that preceded them much like how the Mandalorian has done for many of their episodes this Resurgence of Western Nostalgia has also given us the chance to see these classic stories from different perspectives which is the case Pandora tends to those wounds including a leg shattered by a bullet as well as she can and when Calhoun comes to he explains about the bank robbery and the saddle bag filled with cash he took from his gang Pandora's willing to let let him leave without his twice ill-gotten gains but once Calhoun points out that notorious bear John Tom Hooper will be looking for the money and him Pandora realizes she and Hester could probably use the injured Outlaws help if the criminal and his posi arrive Pandora and Calhoun argue a lot about his lack of morals and her moral stubbornness his traitorously Wy nature and her Stern bedside Manner and his insistence on getting out of here with the cash and her refusal to let a bad man get away with his foul Deeds the performances here make it work on a foundational level with graham as a woman who has become harsh out of necessity and nimic showing the easy charm of a man whose words cannot be trusted quickly though the characters start talking in the same circles since there's not much for them to say and even less for them to do until bear John and his gang currently tracking calhon arrived they're a nasty Bunch as a scene at their Camp shows but when they discover the Dead gang members we realize Calhoun might not be the mere Thief he presents himself as such details don't play into the dynamic at the farm because there is after all the requisite Showdown which is smartly staged to get to not to mention that final Revelation place of Bones may be patient in getting there but it doesn't quite fulfill the potential of its suspenseful character Focus setup Heather Graham returns to the Western genre with place of Bones Graham has explored a variety of genres throughout her celebrated career ranging from her early work Gus Van sans's crime drama Drugstore Cowboy to John fao's buddy comedy swingers David Lynch and Mark Frost surreal Mystery Show Twin Peaks and Mike Myers Austin Powers The Spy Who shagged me among others situated among these are two prior Ventures into the Western genre with the well-received True Story drama The Ballad of Little Joe and the Sam Worthington led the last son Graham stars in place of Bones as Pandora a woman living on a remote ranch with her daughter who is grieving over the death of her husband and struggling to provide them both a meaningful life on the harsh Frontier their quiet lives are thrown into upheaval with the arrival of calhon a wounded Outlaw on the run from a gang after a bank robbery gone wrong and killing a few of his posi as she cautiously tends to his wounds Pandora and her daughter must prepare for a potential confrontation with the ruthless leader of the gang alongside Graham The Ensemble place of Bones cast includes the Umbrella Academy Alam Tom Hopper as the gang's leader bear John Corin nech as Calhoun Briel Robia as Pandora's daughter Hester and cowboy Saron as a member of bear John's gang hailing from she never di director Ashley Cummings the movie offers a refreshingly female driven approach to the Western genre in the same vein as Vigo mortenson's the dead don't hurt while also featuring a surprising ending twist in honor of the movie's release Screen Rant interviewed Heather Graham to discuss place of Bones getting to bring a femin approach to the Western genre the unique challenge of filming on location for the movie The Joy of working with new young actor Belle Robia and her thoughts on her Twin Peaks fate and potential future Pandora Heather Graham and her daughter Hester Briel Robia live the secluded and rugged life in the Untamed Wilderness of the Wild West in 1876 their cabin perched in a remote Valley 90 miles from the nearest town is a testament to their resilience and determination since the tragic death of Pandora's husband they have relied on each other for survival learning to fend for themselves in a world that is both beautiful and brutal the Wilderness has become their only companion with days spent tending to their small farm and nights filled with the Eerie howls of distant wolves one morning their world is upended when Hester stumbles upon an unconscious man sprawled on their land his body drenched in blood the man Calhoun cor nemic is barely clinging to life despite the risk Pandora takes him in driven by a deep-seated compassion that remains unbroken even by hardship over the following days as Pandora nurses him back to health she learns that Calhoun is no ordinary traveler he is an outlaw carrying not just wounds but secret secrets that could endanger them all with his recovery Calhoun reveals that he is being hunted by a ruthless gang of Bandits led by the notorious bear John Tom Hopper a man feared across the territory for his brutality and greed bear John and and his men are after The Fortune hidden within Calhoun's saddle bag a cash of money stolen during a daring robbery by Sheltering Calhoun Pandora and Hester have unknowingly placed themselves in the crosshairs of be John's gang turning their peaceful Haven into a Battleground as Danger encroaches from all sides Pandora must navigate a perilous path between the Lawless West and the instinct to protect her daughter at all costs her once isolated world now brims with tension and uncertainty as she is forced to decide whether to risk it all by standing with Calhoun or turn him over to the Outlaws to save herself and Hester what unfolds is a highstakes battle for survival testing Pandora's courage and resolve as she confronts both the physical dangers of the West and the moral complexities of Justice loyalty and survival the plot is straightforward and flows relaxed allowing the story to unfold naturally without unnecessary complexity or confusion it doesn't rely on intricate twists or conv included subplots to engage the audience but rather on the strength of its characters and the immersive setting the Simplicity of the narrative enhances its charm making it accessible while keeping the focus on the central conflict and emotional Stakes the storyline develops organically ensuring that each moment feels meaningful without overwhelming the viewer with too many moving Parts the acting is notably strong with each performance contributing to the film's gripping atmosphere Heather Graham shines as Pandora portraying her character with a delicate balance of strength and vulnerability Graham brings an emotional depth to Pandora allowing the audience to connect with her as she navigates the dangerous and unpredictable situations she faces Tom Hopper delivers a menacing performance as bear John the ruthless leader of the bandits his presence on screen exudes a palpable sense of danger with hopper effortlessly embodying the cold calculating villain whose sheer force of will makes him a formidable antagonist the ention escalates whenever he appears keeping viewers on edge as they anticipate his next move suspense weeds its way throughout the film lingering in every scene and drawing the audience deeper into the unfolding drama whether it's in The Quiet Moments of uncertainty or the heart pounding confrontations the sense of unease never fully dissipates keeping viewers engaged in guessing the Chemistry Between the cast paired with strong performances enhances the tension elevating the film to a compelling story of survival loyalty and danger directed by Audrey Cummings place of Bones is a western drama Thriller about a mother and her daughter surviving on a remote Ranch in the wild west Hester often complained to her mama about the scarcity of food with the nearest town 95 Mi Due West the mother and daughter barely had any resources to feed on but Pandora believed that God would provide them with food and they must never stop having faith in his Miracle every morning Hester visited her father's grave on the hill next to the ranch even though their land was Barren she was hopeful that if she continued to perform her daily chores with complete dedication they would manage to survive Hester and Pandora's lives took a turn when they came across a stranger on their Ranch he was badly wounded and they dragged him to their house Hester and Pandora's biggest fear was the threat of the Outlaws and they were hopeful that the stranger they brought home would help them understand if they were in danger The Stranger Hester and Pandora had dragged into their home was a bandit named Calhoun he had recently stolen money from a bank and several Outlaws were already searching for him Pandora pulled out the bullet from Calhoun's leg and tended to his wound Calhoun did not expect to be in the company of two women and he was a little startled at first he assumed Pandora was interested in the money in his saddle bag but she firmly stated that she did not want any share of his stolen cash Calhoun defended himself stating that he and his friend Bob Kenny were going through desperate times and that was the reason why they stole money from the Union Bank Bob was shot dead as soon as they left the bank located on valy way the locals followed Calhoun but he managed to get away and to protect himself he ended up killing three men even though he was in a safe place he could not shrug off the idea that Pandora could take advantage of him he had a bag full of cash and he could not walk because of his leg injury there was nothing stopping her from taking the money he even offered her a little cash to feed him meat but Pandora refused he pulled his gun out of his saddle bag and threatened the mother but she told him that she had already taken out the ammunition the next morning Calhoun woke up to find that his leg had been amputated he screamed in pain and anger Pandora explained that he developed a ganging infection in his leg and she had no choice but to chop it off Calhoun could not believe that Pandora operated on him without asking for his permission he was concerned that his inability to move without assistance would make him all the more vulnerable even though it seemed Pandora and Hester were looking after their guest as good Christians are expected to Calhoun continued to be suspicious of the pair Pandora offered to walk him to Buffalo Creek and buy him a horse a saddle a bottle of whiskey and a change of clothes simply because she wanted him gone the proposal was too good to be true for Calhoun and he wondered what her ulterior motive was p D explained that she expected Calhoun to give her details of the men who had followed him to the ranch the previous night as it turned out Calhoun had lied about his friend Bob Kenny Bob was with him along with Tech masters and Ed Singley and they had managed to escape from the town where they stole the cash the four got drunk that night and soon they lost control of their greed and the shooting began When the Smoke Clear Calhoun realized that he was the only one who had survived but Pandora soon found out that the trouble was not yet over Calhoun's friend Bob Kenny had a brother bear John a popular Outlaw known for his ruthless nature Calhoun believed that bear John would seek revenge if he found out that Calhoun had killed his brother bear John knew about the robbery and according to their plan they were all supposed to meet the next day Pandora guessed that bear John would arrive at her Ranch to seek revenge and he was not alone he was accompanied by three other men he had a Tracker Cherokee Jack Miner Wilson known for his vicious nature and Little Pete the harmless one of the lot Calhoun suggested the mother and daughter run away but Hester and Pandora had no intention of doing so instead they planned on fighting The Outlaws Pandora explained that she and her husband had built the ranch and she would never leave the place while the land had turned Barren over the years they once had a farm there with cattle and horses the place was a treasure Trove of memories for Pandora and she wanted to hold on to to it till her last breath Hester Pandora and Calhoun prepared to face the Outlaws while testing an old riffle they had at home Calhoun mentioned that his friends Tech masters and Bob Kenny had great rifles and all of a sudden Hester came up with a plan she did not discuss it with her mother knowing that she would end up worrying about her Hester headed out alone in the desert in search of Calhoun's three friends who had died in a shootout after walking a long way she finally found the bodies and she grabbed grabbed hold of the rifles she did not expect one of the men to be still alive and she ended up stoning him to death when bear John came across the dead body of his brother he was determined to seek Vengeance according to his tracker calone had betrayed his companions and ran away with the money he first shot Tech when he was fast asleep and he eventually killed the remaining two jokee Jack followed the footprints of Hester and they ultimately reached the ranch Hester was forced to lock herself in the barn and she stabbed Cherokee Jack when he attempted to kill her Pandora and the Outlaws tried to come to an agreement she was ready to hand over the saddle bag if they dropped their weapons but of course both parties knew the situation would not be resolved as easily Hester shot Cherokee and soon a gunfight broke out day had turned into dust and Pandora decided to help Hester step out of the barn bear John had been waiting for such a moment and the mother and daughter were immediately attacked while Hester managed to find her way back to her house Pandora ended up locking herself in the Smoke House bear John struck her and Pandora was left unconscious Jon dragged Pandora into the house and shot Calhoun he repeatedly kicked Pandora and assumed that the mother was now too weak to attack him Jon approached Hester and threatened to sexually assault her but thankfully her mother came to her rescue JN did not realize that Pandora was a strong woman who would do anything to protect the ranch and her daughter she had the cash in her hand and she threatened to burn it down to distract Jon The Outlaw promised not to attack her if she handed him the money but she could not trust him John cautioned her that he would kill her and her daughter if she burned the money Pandora had already started dropping the bundles of cash into the fire when Jon reached for his gun unexpectedly Calhoun stabbed The Outlaw with a pitchfork and bear John collapsed to the floor Calhoun was bleeding and he had no chance of survival Pandora thanked The Stranger for helping them Calhoun was proud of at least dying protecting a mother and her child he begged Pandora to bury him with his chopped off leg because he believed a would not get to meet Hades to his surprise Pandora responded that she had not stored his leg instead he had already fed him the meat this was not the twist Calhoun or even the audience expected Pandora and Hester had run out of meat and the stranger came to their rescue given that the nearest town was over 90 Mi away and they did not have a horse to ride there it only made sense that Pandora and her daughter had been relying on such blessings for quite some time she did not care about the money as long as Calhoun's presence guaranteed men for them to kill maybe Calhoun's leg was not infected by ganging maybe Pandora amputated his leg to immobilize him during place of Bones ending Hester grabbed a knife and slit Calhoun's throat they no longer needed him alive Pandora thanked God for providing them with food that would last them a long time she chopped the bodies of Calhoun and the Outlaws in The Smokehouse while Hester as a sign of respect buried calhon severed head in the ground Calhoun's dream of meeting the Greek god of the underworld assumably remained unfulfilled place of Bones ending confirms that Pandora and Hester were cannibals Pandora's overprotectiveness of her daughter was also quite concerning her nature was similar to that of her father who did not approve of Pandora and her husband's relationship and their decision to build a ranch Pandora despised her father because he had always tried to own her she was thankful to her husband for saving her from her father but unfortunately he was soon killed Pandora's father had hired a killer who came by their Ranch and shot her husband in front of her and her daughter Pandora killed the man and we can assume that that was her first desperate Act of survival it had been 4 years since her husband passed away and they had consumed all their cattle and horses and were waiting for a blessing Calhoun might not be the first man they have hunted given how confident and strategic the mother and daughter had been in their planning they waited for Bandits to come by their Ranch for help and they were grateful to God for always providing them with just enough food Pandora never allowed Hester to leave the ranch perhaps it was her overprotectiveness or maybe she feared her daughter would leave her for a man like she once did but Hester was a curious young woman who perhaps would one day leave her mother's Nest to discover the world beyond their Ranch will Pandora act the way her father once did we can only hope for the best place of Bones is described as a horror Western leaning towards Western the film stars Heather gramy nights as Pandora possibly a play on Pandora's Box a mother who along with her daughter Hest Briel Robia lives quietly on their Ranch in the desert their simple way of living is chaos when a wounded Outlaw named kongor and nimic seeks Refuge from a group of well-known bank robbers on Pandora's Ranch the robbers bear John Tom Hopper minor Wilson Donald cowboy seron and others attempt to reclaim their stolen Fortune something about the notion of isolation drives home feelings of panic desperation and fear whether in Space the ocean or even desert Land The Singularity of one self- hits home this is something that director Audrey Cummings Jimny in Georgia and writer Richard Taylor Stingray convey perfectly to the audience the chance that no one will hear screams of help comes through tenfold heck Pandora even says at one point to Calhoun we don't have a horse this shows they are all stuck in this location the film does suffer from an over dialogue heavy First Act but picks up speed during the beginning of the third act this isn't to say that earlier conversations throughout the film aren't important to the plot they do set the stage for the best part the final showdown so to speak the Final Act hearkens back to many dramatic films assault on percent 13 Prince of Darkness and Evil Dead the fight or flight feeling is constantly tugging at the cast until finally they dedicate themselves to fight mode Heather Graham is always a joy to watch perform she easily Dawn the protective mother here there's also a hardness to her that lies right at skin level a glowing don't mess with me or else demeanor poor NX name may ring a bell he was the lead in the classic television show Parker Lewis Can't Lose I've enjoyed nec's work in other films and was happy to see he was playing an outlaw nec's character Calhoun is a mbag baddie meaning not everything is as it seems through conversations in the film Calhoun goes from Angry for good reason Pandora amputated his wounded leg while he was unconscious he later comes to terms with his loss and becomes a vital part of their survival Tom Hopper the Umbrella Academy plays the coldhearted bank robber bear John he's crud rude and full of tude Pandora and John clash as neither are willing to concede their stance Jon wants the money and Pandora wants survival the film ends strong and satisfying place of Bones is a decent film worth watching for the disheartening feeling of isolation Heather Graham is strong and plays well with Corin neac they have great chemistry Tom Hopper is quality in his role as the menacing bear John he stands toe to- toe in a dramatic tour to force in the Wild West Heather Graham's versatile career in Hollywood has landed her in films across every genre whether opposite Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin in comedies like Bowfinger or Gary Oldman in sci-fi Adventures like Lost in Space she's well known for her charismatic bubbly character roles but in recent years Graham has been revisiting the horror Community flexing different acting muscles as the leading lady in features like last years love craft and suitable flesh and now a gritty Western Thriller from director Graham Boogie Nights Bobby if there's one lesson Pandora Graham has tried to make sure sticks with her daughter Hester Briel Rabia it's never trust a stranger especially if that stranger is a man the pair have long been surviving on their Ranch far off the beaten path with only their own wits muscle they work ethic to keep them alive and Pandora knows that when others get involved it brings drama and danger that she's just not looking for in a cruel twist of fate after the pair of women discover a deeply wounded Outlaw Corin nech on their property with a bag of money a fix to his side they realize their quiet and peaceful lives are about to be overrun by Outsiders and these aren't just any Outsiders as the men who've come looking for the downed Outlaw and his cash stash are a Cutthroat gang led by a notorious bank robber Tom Hopper but this gang of deplorables don't know that they've met their match with a mother and daughter Duo who know no other reality than one that has forced
