What cameras and lenses I use to shoot high school football: It's the 1st game of the season!!!

it's PMR and this video is on what I'm going to bring to my first High School football game of the season let's get into [Music] it tonight's going to be my first football game of the season so I'm pretty excited um and as always I kind of think a lot ahead of time about what I'm going to bring and that will depend on what the field I'm going to as like in terms of like brightness uh it also depends on how crowded it's going to be like at an SEC game or something like that um and just you know where I can go will dictate what lens I'm going to bring today I'm going to bring the uh 300 mm 2.8 GM lens which I can't wait to try out with the new a93 uh this com combination didn't exist uh last football season the lens did at the very end of the season and I got to do that and I showed some pictures of that but I haven't shot football yet with the a93 so I'm really pumped about that um so basically I've got the a93 with a batter grip and two batteries in it that way I kind of know I'm not going to run out of juice you know partway through the game or whatever uh for this I'm going to be bringing the uh Sur p326 monopod which is a five section monopod that's actually smaller than the lens is with the lens attached at least this lens um and uh also I wanted to mention I'm using a Carl zemlin zemlin aftermarket lens shade he 3D prints these I think in his garage and they're excellent they're a little bit longer than the normal shade that comes in the lens stock from Sony which I very much appreciate when the Sun is setting and I might be shooting back lit back lit is one of my favorite things to do with any sport but especially football I appreciate Carl making these cuz like nobody else would unless he did so it's pretty cool so that's my like long glass setup I'm also going to bring a 14 teleconverter because um from now until the time change that happens in November we really have a lot of really beautiful light right as the game starts and the first couple of games we get you know the first whole quarter maybe or a little bit into the second quarter and then as the as the time goes on and and the Sun starts setting earlier at least I'm in Eastern Time Zone um we lose that light now eventually when the time change happens everything will be at night all the time under lights but right now we' got a combination so I'm going to bring this which will get me out to 420 mm F4 field of view um and of course I can punch in with it as is uh but I can also punch in with the 14 so if I want to shoot coaches or something really you know down the other end of the field that's not so impossible when I got serious about creating my YouTube Studio I knew I needed a solution for LED lighting westcott's l60 BS are fantastic and are the perfect blend of power control and price point It's always important to bring a second body when you shoot uh High School football um there's a lot of things happening on the field a lot of feature opportunities the fans are kind of crazy um the light is good maybe it's sunset or a moon's rising or some crazy thing you always want to have uh a medium to wide lens um or one of each if you're going to use primes what I'm bringing tonight is an alpha 1 without a grip there's no reason to have a grip uh it's the very unusual one time I wear this actually around my neck um because I want to be able to get to it quickly um the lens I've chosen is pretty cool and when I bought this originally I wasn't really thinking about football but the more I got to thinking about that this is going to be great um so this is a 24 to 50 f2.8g lens which is only a few months old I've been using it a lot lately I've used it on virtually I think every one of my assignments uh since I got a hold of it it's very very lightweight it's small most importantly it's a constant aperture Zoom so as you zoom from 50 to 24 the lens doesn't slow down at all when you're going from 24 to 50 so it's 28 at 50 it's 28 at 24 therefore it makes your exposure extremely predictable you know where you're at all the time I will be leaving that on 50 mm the whole time I'm shooting the game itself but this will allow me to uh you know if there's a really cool wide angle possibility with stands or the light or the sunset or something like that I can you know vary that I can go to 24 mm if I want to this lens also has a really cool feature that I don't think they sold very well I don't think they really talked about it too much but if you're at 24 millim in the slend you can go down to it'll focus to seven in so it's really kind of a poor man's macro in addition to being a really cool range of Zoom that's lightweight and small 67 mm filter size it's killer so um this camera will be set to 30 frames per second the alpha 1 um at 50 millimeter and that's what I'll you know if there's a pass play that happens right in front of me or some great tackle that kind of Runs Out of Bounds in my direction that way I can get 30 frames per second of that but honestly this even though it'll shoot at 120 frames per second this one will be set to 20 frames per second um because that's kind of where High School action in college you can justify 30 um but I probably won't be shooting much uh you know at 60 frames a second or and definitely not 120 football is just too slow a game for that so um for me anyway that's just my decision as a photographer but uh anyway um I will definitely do a video on what I get tonight um but I kind of wanted to just do something to start the season out with like what are you prepping what are you bringing um and I like this combination so I'm going from 2 4 to 50 of course if I punch in on this camera which I can do um it gets me like 48 to 75 I think um and then this one um you know 328 you know I it's just cool it's there's so many different things when you can punch in um but I'm bringing the teleconverter just in case because I want to keep that 24 megapixel going
