and podcast we are back with the second match reaction of the season I am your host Chris joined this week by Ian and nickel um we're going to jump straight into it um I think this one's going to be a bit of a Down one I'm not going to lie um there wasn't much to take from that game there's a couple of talk on points but we we'll go as always we go to the starting 11 um coming to youan first of all um once again there's a debate between the right back position if trips was going to come in or if Tino was going to keep his spot Eddie how mentioned a few times in his pre-match conference that the reason trips didn't feature in the first game was yet had only had 10 days or 10 training sessions or something like that um in preseason whereas Tino did quite well preseason um the shock to De was that Lewis Hall was dropped to the bench and Lloyd Kelly came in to replace him which I'll get your opinion in just a second but that shocked me a little bit I know Hall the week before against Southampton he had a bit of a tough time at times not throughout the full game but made some questionable decisions that back here which I keep on mentioning which put everybody back in own six yard box absolutely crazy then he at times but I wasn't expecting them to be dropped for this game I'm not sure what you thought no I was the same I think obviously up until sort of Kieran Trip's future at the club or status at the club is is decided I think you're going to have that sort of 5050 where does he start Tino or does he start start trip yeah um obviously craft coming in at right center half um because I I think it was discussion that maybe's Kelly could come in and play center half but then you've got a little bit of an unbalance with two left footed Center half so for the balance it made sense for for craft to come in I thought for the most part he did done quite well he's fairly solid against Alam when he came in like you say I thought thought Hall did struggle um last week but not to the point where I thought he would be dropped I think there was quite a few players last week that were were very below par and that that continued into this week it's interesting just touching on Eddie how's comments there with the reasons why tripier um isn't wasn't starting was because of the obviously the like a preseason time Anthony Gordon had the exact same amount of time as him and he's starting over Harvey Barnes and Harvey Barnes for the most part had a fairly solid preseason as well um so it's interesting that that's that's what his reasons for not starting tripier was um may be something more going on you don't know but yeah I was was a little bit shocked to to see Paul dropped um now we'll get into it later on when he come on I thought it was a was a positive change that was needed him coming on um and then the rest rest of the team picked itself so so the the opening start of the game nickel is Newcastle they came out the traps um probably what you would expect from from from a weir team at the start with we just just went for it for the first 10 15 minutes I would say um but obviously opportunities didn't arise to to to score which just allowed Bournemouth to to slowly get control of the game um um I would say after the 15th minute it it wasn't necessarily backs against the wall but you could just tell that that bouth what were quite comfortable at times and who had Joon had a an afternoon to forget at times because he everything he touched he just seemed to lose yeah um we had them couple of um half chances really with isak um getting past a couple of players and putting it across the face of goal but um no one was there to to sort of finish it off and then and then Bournemouth did sort of start to get the foot on the ball a bit more and start to dominate The Possession really um and then you know the first the first goal is unfortunately Joel Linton sort of dly Daring with it on the edge of his box um I think to be fair I don't think you had many options for a forward pass um but still you you can't really lose it in that situation and then from there um they went and scored and I think it was Tino at the back post who actually slept for the goal um but but um but yeah that was that was obviously a poor a poor start to go into half time with it it seems to be a common Trend I know only two games in Ian but just pissing about on the edge of a box a little bit too much at the minute Joel Lon obviously got got caught today um Hall last week almost at fall for conceding a goal um as well for doing a similar sort of thing um we used to Bruno doing it and and you always feel comfortable when Bruno does it um because he nor only wins a free get go gets himself out out of that that tricky situation um but if if you look at the the center of the field as well today um and and I'm going to mention Jan again everybody knows I'm a big Jon fan but I thought he struggled at times today yeah um like you say after the sort of first 10 15 minutes I thought for the most part it was quite refreshing to see were controlling a game um particularly after last week on I know obviously the red card didn't help but thought the Midfield were were pretty dominant and we playing some quite nice stuff where were playing the ball into joelinton he was just popping it off to Bruno and Bruno was playing in Long stuff and then W breaking and like Nicholls said were sort of getting isak in in a more wider area to put the ball in but I just after the sort of 10 15 minutes where I don't know if it was oh well we've been playing well we haven't scored I don't know if it was confidence but we just looked like we we had been playing for about two weeks or something we just look end of the season game didn't it yeah like there was there was no energy like you was struggling to get on the ball like like you say there was countless players getting caught in possession Kelly was another one um getting caught in possession put dangerous positions as well because him and Dan burn just kept on passing the back and really well not just Dan burn but it it seemed to go from the ls of Kelly passing to to burn that was like five yards away but passing it that at some sort of force then Dan bur not really knowing what to do or then obviously going back to to P where P just has to absolutely smash it um and would done that B too many times comfortable with it and then then they had the the warnning shot of was that Seena hit the ball which was a cracking strike um so the warning signs were there we let them back in like I just see I don't know what's what's up with that the minute but we just don't seem like we're that that team that two seasons ago where intensity was our identity there's zero intensity at the moment and I genuinely don't know what's what's wrong and then obviously I think nickel touch on the Joon CAU up and and then Tino doesn't react to I think it's was it tieria that scored for them he just runs off him Tino sort of jogging back craft could he have swung a foot he probably could have but then the likelihood is that his weak I foot could that could have easily been an own goal but just the first half performance like the majority of the game I just thought was was so lackless to from it was almost like a bunch of like people that have won a competition and just said there you go you go play football there was no like direction or anything and then I think sort of after the that Seena chance I think Scott touched on as well like isak was would just couldn't get him in the game like Gordon again this week was so so poor like obviously you got the goal we'll touch on that later but there was like there was no intensity from him like even in sort of when he's getting the ball you have Gordon as like your explosive player to drive you drive you forward there was none of that um so it was very very frustrating and and Bournemouth to be honest deserved deserved a go in half time probably I'd say at least two nil up yeah um and then come out second half I don't I know Eddie how doesn't make changes I know a lot of Team like teams don't make changes at halim but I was very surprised that he kept some of them players on like Murphy today was absolutely honking like his passes were going over Thrones it was going five 10 yards behind where players were like um but yeah like I say would then make the changes if you want to touch on them and then sort Chang changes the flow of the game yeah when obviously the later on the second half n that's what when there's three different changes make each each time obviously like obviously you get the addition of trips coming on but then you get like will coming on and bonds which which was the two which interested me when those those came on and and you thinking right let's see what we can do because we said last week that it's probably the first time in a long time we had a strong bench and and you saw it again today so the options are there available and it just proved the worth of of having a squad today because um bnes in particular for me changed the game those those three well actually it was the third time look where we scored from it but barondes did that cross twice before it and and one of it was Jon's header which came off his shoulder which he should have done better with that chance but there a good sa either way um but yeah bonds really impressed me just direct gonna get to the edge of the box and was a lifted ball it wasn't necessarily what you would class as an old school cross it was just dink in wasn't it yeah yeah yeah I think we improved uh slightly but only for about five minutes when trippier and um and Barnes came on but then I think when he brought willik on as well in Hall I think that was like the um almost the Catalyst of when we actually were were really sort of pressing them back ws and and really having a goal um and then we I'm sure BS had a good chance with his left foot it just flashed wide that was just before weor yeah um and he he was sort of the danger man for us and and we were sort of pening them back a bit and then and then obviously we got the goal with the the little dink ball and then Gordon puts it into the back stick and um so I'm gonna I'm gonna mention at this point because I got I got a text message from from from my good mate Chris who you might be listening to this or watching back um he text us about 30 seconds before Gordon scored just basically seeing what commentator curse every single time and seeing that Gordon just doesn't look interested today 30 seconds later he sticks in the back of the net but it's typical isn't it when when a game obviously once again I'm going to use the fre backs against world but I don't think it was that sort of thing it was just bit of a lackluster performance but we managed to to grab a goal um because no fet well we kept on knocking on the door course we did for that 10 15 minute spell just knocking and knocking and knocking and you're thinking we're not really getting the chances that really are going to fall to it where a player can just absolutely Smash in the back of the net which eventually lands to Gordon it's a great finish from Gordon as well because it's it's quite a tight angle um behind the keeper though but it's a great finish and at that point Ian and I put in our WhatsApp I think we could go and win this now because it was all of us but as soon as we got that goal um I know Bruno got a chance as well which is another great save that because that's going to the top Corner as well um but bourou as soon as we get our goal they come straight back out with yeah it was almost like Bournemouth had had been sort of tricked into like a false sense of security as they don't have to like change gear and they can see the game out and it sort of give them a kick up the ass I think they had can't remember who it was it might have been so many it might be in T again um had one where Pope's know like don't get us wrong wasn't pop thought or anything like it was just no when year it was quality strike they had a one where um that the new lad for them Evan neelson got his studs to the ball just couldn't direct it in they had another one where it was sort of low hard just went past the post and I was thinking I was thinking the exact same as you sort of that that 10minute spell that we had that they only looked like it was going to be one team that were going to go on and win um and like I said um Bournemouth then sort of changed gears and and caused more problems again there keeper made two really really good saves one off burn and like you say one off Bruno um and then you thinking that the game's probably going to pet her out and then I think I think that the initial chance that the corner that when we touch on it that they sort of score their disallowed goal from comes from because Dan Burns by Clos line there keeper got a boot in can't remember who it was but the run past Dan burn if he's not on a yellow card there he bring brings them down that doesn't happen so they get a shot off they get a corner and then if you want if you want to go through the hand ball because to me I know we got we got jipped last week with with v but so the thing obviously the burn it's it's not necessarily Clos line from bur but we'll get on DRS him back jumps in front of him just knocks him off balance he knows exactly what he's doing then I know exactly what you're talking about because burn gets a couple chances where you're thinking normally if he doesn't already have a yellow card he's just wiping this player out and that comes twice and I'm thinking don't do it don't do it but Lu he doesn't um but yes they get their goal um it's a great ball into the boxing it really is and you know what is for for us being renowned to have such this this tall defense and dominating defense in the year Dan burn he gets absolutely annihilated there in the six-yard box and Joel linton's just in front of him Jordan jumps completely misses it Dan Burns just it's just weird I don't know what Dan Burns doing in this situation but he tries to put the player off um ball hits the back of the net and you're thinking was it 92nd minute or something D like that that that they score and you're thinking a that that take him over then n it goes to V then you see the replayers and the commentators are saying it's gone to ve because they're checking for a hum ball yeah decision I am unbelievably shocked and grateful that that goal was ruled out because if that's the other way around I am spitting feathers at that because that's a disgraceful decision yeah you can see why Bournemouth were as um sort angry as they were one of the coaches got a red card didn't he towards the end but um yeah it was it wasn't what you call Clear Cut was it it was sort of I don't know it was where almost where the the sponsor of the the sleeve sponsor is um and on the on the slowmo Rec I didn't even know if it had hit burn and gone in so I that's what I had I thought it maybe hit him but um I was surprised they didn't send him to the monitor to go and check it because I thought in that situation that's the sort of thing they would send some on the mon yeah um but obviously just flashed up as disallowed and and then obviously we're grateful for that but I do definitely think we've got away with one um 100% like 100% no no doubt about it like yeah it's had to we we wanting to go for the of course of course well and what what do you know what it is like as Newcastle fans we we can sit here now and even if we had conceded and that go stands I don't think anybody stands say oh tall like should have been disallowed I think every right it is what it is the fact that it it was dis loud and we can say yeah and go got away with one there like and we we'll speak about another moment in just a second but what's really annoying me now is that we listen to the likes of the pundits afterwards and somehow I'm not I'm not disagreeing to saying that should have been dis allowed before people jump as but now people are saying that it didn't hit his his top of his arm and it hit his shoulder up yeah this is what the you can clearly see it's like hit what we said where the sponsor is it's still it still should have stood the goal should stood but let's not get out of hand say oh hit top of your shoulder like everybody saw way it hit it's still a goal at the end of the day but let's stop trying to change it like the referee got it wrong V got it wrong whatever great for us understand why they're booting right off because we would be exactly the same Tindle would probably thrown punches at people but it was sent off he would have been sent off around yeah I think a big thing that Jamie redup said in the the two minutes of Sky talked about at the end of the game was that uh none of our players like um appealed for it so that's normally italent sign as well so well that's what you see is okay but if you do if you watch the game back Bruno does run straight over to the referee and see ball a couple of players around him um it just didn't really highlight it much because it was just constantly focused on on like the ve and it was Strang in that maybe this is a new thing where the referee doesn't get end of the mon that we saw it a couple of times last week but if if they're going against the the onfield referee and getting him to check his decision why is he not checking it why are they basally say know you got that yeah I I was like giv update in the group chat even though kicked off with Daryl for doing the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago but like for for me it was I thought when the because the commentary the commentary team said something like oh Bournemouth aren't going to like the the outcome and I thought they were going to say oh they're going to go and check the the monitor I thought I thought even then when you check the monitor look at the replays I have to say I do think it came a little bit higher up than than the sleeve sponsor I don't not quite as high as a shoulder but above there and then looking at the replays I don't I don't even think it it touches him I genuinely think it comes off Dan burn should and goes in um but for them to just outright like rule that out and and not have the referee double check it just to say like are you sure like we got off massively with that one I would be if that was the other way around i' would be absolutely fuming it just sums it up though when you when you look it we've got what we like half an hour after the game's finished and we've got three people here and all three of us are saying that's a different part of the but still still regardless what part of the arm it's a part of the arm that would have yeah um and then the to add further insult injury we go down the other end they try and do uh a quick break and then joelinton delivers a Clos line from hell you can't you can see what J's trying to do he's trying to stop the Cuba I don't think Jan realize where his arm is going at this point and he literally wraps he he's right arm like a a b constrictor around the neck of the keeper and you're thinking the referee runs straight over and boooks him and I'm do you know what is I'm thinking V might have a look at this because you know what it is Jan's a very very lucky boy to to stay on that field there because you would not be surprised if the referee had have been told that maybe you you should double check this one yeah definitely yeah like too I I genuinely again as a Newcastle fan I can sit here and say like I'm not biased toward it it's it's for me it's a red card like yeah it's a red card in my BS well yeah it's it's like it's it's effectively to be honest that's more aggressive and dangerous than what sh got sent off for there's like and again was Satia this time last week did a match uh reaction talked about V decisions we're doing the same again this week it's an absolute joke and if if there if there is any Bournemouth fans watching to be honest he's got absolutely robbed there like both of a goal and of a sending off like 100% And to be honest I wouldn't have be grudged I think the performance from us um I wouldn't have begrudged them winning the game because I thought they did they did enough obviously we did have that little spell in the in the second half soort of 10 15 minutes where we improve but I I just think it's the second game of the season and it would genuinely look like out on the feet it's like that that run of games where we played the same starting 11 for like four five games in a row that's the energy levels that they're putting out at the minute that's the second game of the season for me that's quite conent I don't want to be negative obviously I know that that there can be improvements there's literally a whole season to go but if if we're serious about looking at getting into challenging the European places there needs to be so much more put in from the the players that are going out that being said with two games in we're unbeaten we've got four points like but and and do you know what is we can't forget we never play well against Bournemouth that's not saying that we lose every game against Bournemouth but it's never really a great performance n struggle against Bournemouth Eddie house yet to to to get a result in the Premier League against Bournemouth um we'll beat them in the cup if I remember right but not in the Premier League um so it's it's tell and sign there straight away that Eddie House struggles when he when he comes up against Bournemouth and and you know what it's fair play to Bournemouth that they had a good go today like they really did um High Press as well so what you probably expect from our side were just constant on the on the heels of Defenders and not giving them a chance to breathe whereas we were shocked by it we really were right right the way through that game apart from that those brief spells that we did have slight control but we just couldn't capitalize on it I think to to agree with in I think bourman THS they they they've got every rate to be p pissed off really do because I'd be we we'd be sat here having a complete different conversation if it was either way around and we scored that that late winner and it gets cruy taken away from her right at the end as well not to mention the jaw Linton thing which I think they probably got over that bit that's that's nothing really hasn't really affected the the score line with it being to ler on but I don't know like I to to just address what what Ian saying nichel that yes with two games the the the performances so far haven't been what we probably expect from this team but we're can flip it around a little bit and just come back and say yes like you said it's it's two games it's four points performances haven't been great but we haven't lost a game yeah yeah I think well before the game I don't know about about you two but I would have taken a point anyway from this I predicted one1 from from your recent sort of History down there I know a lot of other fans were you know want we need all three points but I T the points first away game the season um given how we played last week although we had 10 men we looked fatigue then we looked fatigued again today um but given all the things that happened in the game and how badly we played for probably I'm going to say 70 minutes of the game um you SN you know snatching the hand off for a point um and we we just sort of we've got a bit of a big week coming up because we've got the cup on on Wednesday obviously and then Spurs at home next next Sunday um yeah which Str recently we do quite well in so hopefully we do SPS been were great the weekend though weren't they really were um yeah we've got we've got the cup game coming up and there is a match preview being recorded for the the cup game later on this evening um so that'll probably be out tomorrow being Monday um just to wrap it up I'll be back Monday night as well live at 8 o'clock with the
