it in the opener every season Saturday was so much fun just sitting on the couch and watching balad it it actually makes it feel like a holiday weekend a little bit doesn't it with with Labor Day usually doesn't feel that way so no sign me up I I I think a lot of people enjoyed it now I'm kind of kidding I would anticipate Saturday openers moving forward but that was If You're Gonna Play a Friday night game that's exactly it's exactly the time to do it I think a lot of people enjoyed it yeah I thought the crowd was awesome um student section was great had I mean considering the game had had a uh I mean blowout games like that you're going to see a lot of people from the crowd leave early and that happened but I thought a huge majority of the people stayed especially through that third and fourth quarter Break um which was really cool so yeah I I thought it was awesome let's dive into what we saw and let's start on the defensive side of the football just a dominant performance from U's defense CH as you went back through the film what really stood out to you well I I thought the the best thing overall is what the interior defensive line looked like and you saw a great play in moments from gosh pretty much everyone um from from your starters Jadon Jackson and Dominic Williams will I thought they were excellent some of the stuff that they were doing they run these little inside twists in the Run game that are just brutal on interior offensive lines uh they penetrate and then swing around basically you end up on a lot of the Interior runs you have three players trying to block two and they don't do a very good job of it so I mean you end up getting backers that that come clean because of it and the defense of linemen are are often showing up as extra players on the front side so I I thought Dominic Williams and Jay Jackson were really good I thought uh big DJ Terry was was the best I've ever seen him look as a sooner he was uh he was creating chaos in the interior now everyone knows that the offensive lines you go against are going to get better and better but you know you just got to grade it for what it is and um it was really good Grayson Holton was like you would expect all over the place penetrating creating uh problems in the back field Sears played well everyone saw marus strong come in late and and make an appearance Ashton Sanders so you got a ton of guys in the interior playing really well and I thought that was the strong point I I completely agree especially on the interior twists I thought that Jaden Jackson when he was the penetrator in those his quickness getting lateral and then getting on the other side of the line of scrimmage it it just ruined anything Temple was trying to do he looked he looked quick on tape yeah I mean he his quickness I I think he play and that's sometimes you don't know what you're gonna get from a young guy when they go out there in a game for the first time it seemed like his speed ramped up compared to what I had seen from him in practice and that I think that tells you a lot you a lot of what you need to know about Jaden Jackson like he was he embraced the moment man yeah and you know we both had highlighted one of the plays where little perimeter screen runs a game on the inside sees he's getting turn free shuts it down turns and Sprints out to the numbers to make a really nice tackle for a short game I mean it's just it's high level stuff for an interior defensive tackle as a true freshman and um can't say enough about him I thought the edge guys were strong um I I thought our Mason Thomas you could having him healthy is a game changer I thought he was active in the pass rush off the edge I thought he did really good controlling the edge of the of the line of scrimmage On The Run stuff sometimes he's containing sometimes he's he's the spill player but I thought he did really good Ethan DS was super strong so line of scrimmage I thought was really good second level with the backers one thing that I thought was great is the different combinations of players we saw we saw stutzman and Kip Lewis as the starting group we saw Kobe McKenzie and stutsman out there we saw Kobe McKenzie and Kip we saw knck and Lewis Carter we saw Lewis Carter and stutsman I think I mean they they mixed and matched a bunch of different guys at backer and even the the young guys that came in really late I thought performed really well nesa came out there got some St uh snaps ow and hinei um I thought they were really good stutsman was like you would expect on top of everything directing traffic it wasn't a massive statistic night really for any of the backers stman LED in tackles but you know I didn't count his reps but he didn't play a whole heck of a lot I mean he rotated out some series during you know what you would consider the On's main main uh go of it and then you know obviously he was out of the game pretty quickly late so I thought that was good taking care of him but the backers the big difference I could see from just one game this year compared to years past I thought the underneath coverage from those guys for the most part was really good Kobe McKenzie got picked off on a swing route on one manto man they started him in empty Outside the Box Salt was man motion back in and then kind of create a little pick situation and just window dress it to get your eyes off and and he got picked off there but um which by the way uh Robert Spears jinnings comes in with a just a fantastic late hit over there on the sideline sending the player into the uh into like the cabinet where they've got all the tape and everything that was that was pretty good but backers I thought overall really high marks like I said the biggest difference was the underneath underneath coverage tackled really well the blitz stuff was super super effective so I I don't know what you thought but I thought the backers as expected looked really sharp the thing that stood out to me about stutsman was the efficiency in the footwork yeah this is something you talk a lot about and you've talked a lot about in the past about false steps you know not seeing things clearly and let's be real that Temple offense was that's a terrible terrible offense that is that I think they have an argument as the worst FBS offensive line in the entire country that group is there's just no sugarcoating it they are awful awful but it looked like stman was seeing everything clearly he was in the right position every single snap that he was on the field and I just think that watching that group as a whole the linebackers they all seemed very calm the entire time on the field communication was calm footwork was calm what there was maybe two snaps of coverage you mentioned the McKenzie snap getting picked and then there was the Lewis Carter where he thinks the guy's running an over route so he kind of carries them tries to kind of tries to drift that way in zone coverage and really the guy runs out and runs a little sail route which is just a really nice play design and a nice route it other than that man it looked it looked pretty good yeah and I would say like on that even on that play like stutsman needs to help him out because you get you actually get four that way and he needs to be telling him to push out and you know that's just an experience thing knowing the coverage you're in and how they're going to attack it but yeah I no fire drills pre- snap and guys scrambling around now things get chaotic but in those chaotic moments the backers really they knew what they were telling people to do and getting the this stuff done so I thought that was great on the back end um back end was great Corners I thought the coverage was really good was tight several guys rotated through saw some nice plays by the corners uh you know coming up and run support safety Bowman was great Robert Spears Jennings was excellent pton Bowen came in and and did some good things he loved the dep Bogan boganowski came in was an absolute missile out there um jayen Hardy obviously had the interception so I mean safety I thought was you know and it's really hard they didn't have time but you pointed out the offensive line it made them look like we should make them look so you didn't get a whole lot of you know just straight drop back pass and the quarterback with plenty of time to let stuff get downfield so they could test us deep you didn't have a whole lot of that so really the back end wasn't tested a whole heck of a lot but kind of the same as the backers I thought the adjustments were you know from what I can tell they were crisp they were clean they got to where they needed to be you know some guys came up and did some really good things in run support uh right there on the edge coming in and making some good physical tackles Inside the Box um I skipped cheetah um Kendall Dolby I thought was great blitzing off the edge you know folding in in some of the Run game stuff where he'd come in and make a play and you know either close to a tackle for loss or did get those guys behind the line of scrimmage and I know we talked about him a little bit leading up to it you know curious to see how Oklahoma would adjust to some of the bigger Personnel packages I thought omo looked really good out there he looks fantastic physically that's for sure yeah I the only criticism I have of Omigo is hey man when it's your turn to Blitz there is a noticeable difference on the tape when dolby's coming and when igo's coming yeah Dolby blitzes like his life depends on it to get to the quarterback it's an experience thing the Nuance getting the timing right too you know whenever you're out separated from the box there's a little bit of an art of how long do you disguise when does it not matter anymore and you just everyone knows you're coming but you still need to be there efficiently and come and dolby's got a really good feel for that that there's no doubt I would say my two favorite moments on tape from this game where I just chuckled number one bow sharp catches the ball a yard short of the first down and signals first down that was great I remember that watching that on the broadcast and thinking should I point that out nah I yeah just it's one of those moments you just chuckle and then kle Dolby breaking up the pass which led to the interception the Walker interception and Dolby not realizing it and just like stomping up and down and be like why why only to find out that they indeed intercepted the football the play is just running right past like the play is going by him as he's like no you're so stupid why he L light Point like we got the football we're going that was great and then you know another one the Taylor wine double uh the Happy Gilmore play I thought was just beautiful and you know it's it's I think that's one of those things that the coaches are just going to laugh at because it's not that bad you know he turns and like the first guy he sees is the quarterback that's jogging over there he goes and hammers the quarterback he's down and then he goes off and chases blasts an offensive lineman like right as the whistle blows it's just it's it looks exactly like the old D'Or uh clip of him hammering Chris Sims you know what it and you're right but Taylor wi is a he is a big dude just being down there on the sideline like that is that is a big athlete and as he was blocking the quarterback and then went and just yard sailed an offensive lineman all I could think was we sure we sure he can't play tight end we sure he can't do some of the split Zone and Zone insert stuff we sure we sure he's already wearing the number he's got 44 on it's he's already eligible we sure that's funny but to wrap it up defensively um I thought it was great seeing some of the young guys come in late I thought was great like Marcus strong made his presence uh felt late that was that was cool watching him um I I felt good about the defense coming in I think that performance is especially as as limited as that you know the the ready sheet the play calls for them they didn't do a whole heck of a lot which you know we knew for multiple reasons it's not just like we're not going to show anything it's like we're not exactly sure what we're going to get out of Temple you know you're game one you just want to be pretty basic in what you do um I thought again the interior I think like we worried okay these guys are going to be good against the the run but what is the pass rush going to look like we don't know for sure yet off of you know what we saw but I think it it makes you feel like hey I think the pass rush from the interior has a chance to to actually be pretty good we'll see if it continues to to get better and better forcing five turnos four five turnovers as a defense was pretty good pretty good pretty good and you know a lot of those came kind of effort plays you know popping the ball out we we were close on another one that one Billy Bowman come flying over the top there from the safety spot so yeah I I all in all really solid the only other thing I've written down was quiet night for the corners which is usually good yeah yeah I they were solid they tried a couple of things out there on the perimeter some comeback routes and and stuff on the sideline but timing was all messed up in the back field a lot of times the ball had to come out before the receivers were even done running the route so it like when you have a pass rush like that like we had on Friday night it really helps the secondary out a lot so hopefully we can continue that throughout the season anything else what you saw from U's defense against a just atrocious Temple offense they did what they were supposed to that's you can't you can't fault them for that I mean they they lined up and and gave it to him from the first play to the last play yep agreed I agree sir all right let's talk about what we saw from U's offense a a lot of conversation amongst the fan base about that but first fuel your journey at Loves Travel stops and say 10 cents per gallon on gas and auto thoughts Ted offense looks pretty similar to what it did last year with what we saw on tape in this game variations of inside Zone if that's what you want to call it let's let's not go down that rabbit hole again I've I I believe I've made my thoughts on that concept known but there's just not a ton of space Creation in the Run game with that inside Zone concept it felt like it was variations of that play and then RPO stuff built off of it where where Jackson Arnold is either reading the Box count or reading a certain Defender and at times s it looked good at times it did not one for 12 on third down with what the only conversion being the last play of the football game you had on offense being that touchdown that Taylor Tatum had on speed option that is not what you're looking for especially against a team like Temple but there are some things that were alarming and then some things that were extremely encouraging and I think let's hit the extremely encouraging stuff first yeah DED I thought Jackson Arnold looked apart man he wasn't perfect but dang he looked he looked pretty dang good I agree I I thought he was sharp I thought he was really pushing the ball down the field well um some of the deep stuff I know we didn't didn't have much but the Deep ball to Farooq beautiful the Deep ball to Hester down the sideline was perfectly played placed um you know the underneath stuff I thought he was sharp pulled it down and ran a couple of times looked athletic um yeah all in all from what I saw I thought he looked pretty good ball looked great coming out of his hand I mean he had some fantastic throws in the game you mentioned the throw to fruit second play of the game you're getting hit you hit fruit perfectly in stride for almost 50 uh the slot fade touchdown throw to Burks you cannot throw a better ball than that Y at the quarterback position and Burks told me after the game like Jackson checked to that like that was his call and hey you check the route and then you throw a perfect ball that's big time quarterback stuff man yeah I thought that' be the one I checked too as well I was up there yeah I'm gonna throw it to that guy I I thought the bow Sharp's touchdown on really nice y that's just a great example of two guys being football players yep hey the flats covered find some space I'll throw you into the space that is that's good football from both of those guys Jackson Arnold's best throw of the night may have been the incompletion on the Deep ball to JJ Hester yeah I thought that's as bad as about as good as you could throw a deep a deep ball and unfortunately Hester just wasn't able to reel it in could couldn't get his hands up some hand fighting going on there with the DB but yeah I mean that was it was placed right there in stride um and you know the numbers for Arnold and vbl pointed it out after the game he was s t of 25 with with four drops so the numbers would have looked quite a bit better and you know the four drops two of them definitely would have resulted in big yardage my complaints about what we saw from Jackson Arnold if he's gonna pull the rpos and not hand it off you got to throw the ball man gotta be decisive right you those those decisions if you decide hey I am pulling this we are not handing off the run you have to get rid of the football even if you're throwing it away you have to get rid of the football as you pull it you realize maybe you made a mistake you got to get rid of it you cannot take negative place I I think that is I think that's a fair criticism you saw you saw that that type of situation a couple times in the game and then and this is something you mentioned on the broadcast T thought he got a little impatient in the pocket a few times on a couple of the third Downs where if he just trusts the pocket routes our developing down the field in coming open and that I I like to think that will that will come as he trust the offensive line a little more as that group continues to get better but yeah that's those are really the only complaints I got that and maybe let's take a few less big hits yeah one of the big questions coming into the game was how is he going to finish runs well guy craves some contact apparently when you're playing some better teams and I interviewed him after the game with blike he said I didn't have a lot of opportunities to slide I just kind of gave him some side ey really that's what we're going with but yes I those it you need to pick and choose the moments that you're going to finish runs the way that he finished some runs in this game and those moments are when you really need to get a first down or you're at the Go line right well and those can still there's a wide range of even those plays of whenever you you know sell out to go get the the first down or the touchdown and like the opponent in the moment definitely matters but you know at the end of the day you like to see that he does have that competitive Spirit there and you're having to have that conversation instead of trying to get the guy to to have some fire and wake up and go do some things so I I do agree though you got to be careful the other quarterback we saw Mike Hawkins got a glimpse of what he can do with his legs he didn't really have many opportunities in the passing game but I think everyone in the stadium got to see what makes that guy special right now as a freshman and he he can just absolutely run he can run and you know I like even though you the the passing opportunities weren't great you you still get to see his quickness and and how quick he can get that ball out of his hand on some of that that quick stuff where it was just turning to the side and letting it Fly and yeah he whenever he gets out into the open field he can do some stuff now moving to wide receiver not I don't think it's really that hard to explain the lack of explosive plays down the field you you can say they were keeping it vanilla that I I kind of feel that's kind of a copout that feels like an excuse to me Temple just did a nice job of staying on top of everything deep and one of the reasons they did a nice job is because U's Run game was never effective enough to force Temple to commit an extra Defender to the Box yeah so you didn't have a lot of situations where wide receivers for OU are running one-on-one down the field they're just wearing a lot of those on tape let's start with faroo man I feel so bad for him that that happened to me when I was in high school senior year broke my foot let it heal re-broke it then went and had the surgery I just it's just brutal for Jalil Farooq and it's a big blow for this football team I I think at the at the very least for me it took almost 10 weeks to come back from that surgery you know when I was cleared I did not feel fast I did not feel explosive it like it took a while for for me to come back yeah and I just you start looking at the schedule when WS a really istic time for him to to return then you factor in hey this is a guy that's got he's got NFL Talent maybe he's got to make a business decision there I I don't know I just I feel terrible for him it's a big blow for him clearly personally it's a big blow for this football team because I think he was gonna have a great season and maybe if you're lucky somehow you get him for the last reg last couple games the regular season but you kind of just have to move forward thinking you're frankly not gonna have him at all I think I don't know just every everything's got to go right for him to contribute to this team in the regular season I don't know six to eight weeks I would I have to imagine that with the surgery how how much of that six weeks would be nonweightbearing you're in a cast and on crutches for a while yeah so I you're gonna my C was like non-existent yeah you're gonna have atrophy there it's hard for me to look at it and expect him to be back at all if if if it is I mean late no November or postseason but like you said like at that point he may have to have a there may be a decision to make about the future so yeah just it's brutal and it comes at a bad time I mean comes against temp yeah Nick Anderson is out need him back desperately and it sounds like he's he's going to be good go this week but we'll see well this is what we've talked about it's it's soft tissue stuff which you know I would say that perhaps if the opponent was different he would have played right so we expect him in week two but that doesn't mean that you're in the clear now right it we got a lot of we got a long season there's going to be a lot of wear and tear can he can he be a ailable for the rest of the season and the rest of the football games like that's a that's going to be a huge factor for us there's no doubt one thing that makes you feel better is how good Deion Burks looks yeah three touchdowns in his first game as a sooner first touchdown just great design he's wide open in the middle of the field a second touchdown great route great throw on the slot fade and then I think his best play of the night the third touchdown they go Sprint pass they get to the levels concept DB's grabbing him and sometimes we talk about how do you play the wide receiver position with physicality and a lot of times we point to blocking on the perimeter and how that can spring you know good runs into great runs well Dion Burks takes the defensive back who is grabbing him grabs him back and throws him to the side and goes runs open open and scores a touchdown that's how you play the position physically I mean he just said get off me little man get off me and I just love the energy that he plays with also I you never know what you're going to get from a guy on game day as far as blocking at the wide receiver position and that dude gets after it as a blocker my assessment of watching Deon Burks on tape is that he needs to be treated did like an NFL number one wide receiver in this offense he needs 10 to 15 targets every game yeah every game there needs to be a section of cth L tril's play sheet that just says get the ball to Dion I I think he's that good I think he's he's the most dynamic guy we've got a as a pass catcher and they need to continue to emphasize getting him the football yeah and the one of the systems that I love out there that does the best job at that is the Miami Dolphins with Tyreek Hill he is almost never a stationary player to start a snap in motion coming across the formation you know he he runs return routes where it looks like he's Crossing and he comes back he takes it deep uh he'll take it deep like a Crosser hook up in the middle of the field I mean there's all kinds of different things that you can do with a player like Dion Burke so I I totally agree um and you know even the stuff where they it's so easy for an offense to put in ways to get him the ball as almost as a running back you know whether it's it's some of the Jet Sweep stuff or you line him up back there I'll say I'll say it the Jet Sweep Dion Burks is a good football play yeah I said it I said it yeah the way he the way he's got a different level of speed and and quickness and he'll I think he'll get better and better at that the more snaps he gets one of the other things I like about him and you know you could tell a good receiver because he's often upset on the sideline because he wants the football get the man the football he's coming to the sideline a lot and there's a lot of okay yeah I know we're going to get it to you so I like that I I do as well other wide receivers quiet night for the other guys Brennan Thompson had four catches for 15 yards he ran a couple deep dig routes that looked good where Arnold just didn't get to him in his progression and then really think the only thing to say about JJ Hester is hey when you get your opport opportunities you got to make plays yeah if you don't make plays with your opportunities then you stop getting opportunities so I think other than that really nothing notable at the wide receiver position IM Jones carry on carry on huge yeah I I think that he is I I think he's gonna be a red zone factor for this team yeah that's just a that's a big guy yeah it's a big body so I I'm to see how creative Joe John Finley and Seth latr can get with him down in the red area but he looks like a tight end yeah he does he looks like he moves pretty good though I mean agreed it seemed like he was the when Hester had those those missed opportunities it looked like Kion was the guy that was stepping right out there in for him right yeah tight end I definitely think you know we're better at that position we've talked about it a lot throughout spring and throughout training camp saw a handful of snaps of 12 Personnel where Roberts is in line and then sharp is more of the move guy in those situations I I thought bar sharp did some good things in the Run game he's not a completely dominant blocker but he's as good as we've had a tight end in quite some time and he is a he's clearly a threat in the past game the the touchdown was a really good good play was just a smart football play by him and then he did a nice job getting open finding space in the middle of the field Jake Roberts guy just plays hard I mean he's in there he's there to be the gritty do the Dirty Work tied in and I think he understands his assignment I think I think he's got it I think he knows why He's on the field saw Kate McIntyre earlier in the game then I anticipated and I liked the way they used him they pretty much used him as a wide receiver they didn't ask him to do a bunch of things that you know don't fit his skill set which I think is smart coaching and then it was really encouraging to see Kaden Helms out there man he looked like he was moving well he looked big it looked like he was excited to be out there and we we'll see they kind of eased him in to to a few snaps we we'll see if he can get a little more comfortable and become a you know more of a rotation guy for this football team yeah yeah I you know I was I was watching I I go down onto the field for some pregame stuff um before every game and I was I was watching some of the tight ends do some stuff and uh Devon Mitchell is gigantic and he's got some time to come online and I I think there was whenever he reclassified and there was a lot of excitement and rightfully so um hopefully he comes around that dude is huge and Kate McIntyre's actually bigger than I thought you know that one of the things a year ago and and whenever he first got here is like it's going to take him time to put some size on he's still one of maybe the smallest tight end we have but I mean he's starting to knock on the door he's proba 2:30ish and he's there ain't any there's no body fat in that 230 he's he's rip so hopefully he keeps getting bigger we've we've got some nice depth that we can develop it tight end and it's it's still a exciting position group course yeah and I think their expanded role in the passing game is is significant for the offense I thought the the passing attack was that was solid in this game thought spun it well getting to the running backs saw a couple running backs on the field at the same time little 21 Ted and I actually like the concepts out of it I think that they will be able to build on that thought gavonte Barnes looked fantastic didn't see a ton of him but when he was out there it looked really explosive I think you can say the same thing about Taylor Tatum yep really like the way he looked I you saw him in early in the game in some of the two back stuff I think everyone really liked what they saw on the nice run where they're just running a little you know five Box Zone play and he bounces it out the back door and shows why he was the number one running back recruit in the country I Sawchuk was shockingly quiet and when he was out there I didn't think he looked particularly good I don't know if something was going on he just looked what's the best word for it hesitant and that was in in when he got the ball and also in pass protection I don't know it just looked he looked off to me it was strange I agree I agree I I expected to see some real Flash from him um I was surprised we didn't see more javante Barnes but and it's it's one week and like you're going up there's like a wide range of of what you're going up against but all that considered I thought Taylor Tatum he popped the most to me I he he looked like the guy that um in game one was the best but like I said he was later in the game game was decided how how was the temple defense feeling at that point I don't know so there's a lot of different factors there but all that to say he still looked like the guy that to me had the most moves and uh fluidity Vision all of that stuff he stuck out right spot we'll see if his snap count ticks up over these next couple weeks after showing after showing a little juice in the opener but yeah I sjuk just he just didn't look like the guy that you and I watched at training camp it was was a little strange we've saved the the most significant conversation for last the offensive like yeah just wasn't great in the Run game now really what you saw was them run you know that inside Zone play with the front side tackles take an inside footwork it does not create a bunch of space you at the backside kind of try to wash everything by and they go downhill and kind of cut it off it it they're just there was not a lot of movement we didn't see any wide Zone we didn't see any pin pole there were a couple of Gap schemes sprinkled in the best the best run concept the best execution of the entire football game was the first play of the second half 12 Personnel Roberts in line uh sharp in a wing and they just run they run GT counter to the tight end which also it may be the only run in the entire football game that went to the tight end and not away from them which you have to be able to have equal amounts of runs to your tight end and away from your tight end to make things challenging on defense you just have to but nice movement on the tra block cave everything down Jackson AR the backside Defender pulls it throws a one-yard completion to Deon Burks I think it's the right read but I was frustrated because that was the it was actually it was just a straightforward conventional football play that looked really really good I hope they get back to it moving on getting back on track I I think we can all agree that bill Bebo if he does anything he produces violent offensive lines it's what he wants from his players and I watched every play twice I went I went through the game twice with all this extra time on Saturday and I think I counted five what I would consider knockdowns meaning you put your guy on the ground just for perspective and I know there there were some rules that were a little different the cut rules were different back in the day when I was playing my goal as an individual for myself every game was 10 for just me our goal as a line was 50 they had five butet weu had two I have Spencer Brown down for two which one was them one was him trapping a guy in pass Pro just like knocking down his hands he fell on his face gave him a knockdown for that and I had he oida down for one I say all of that to say that's just not what you're looking for man yeah and just going through the guys individually Michael tarwin pretty much played a game that I expect from him to play he is not a dominant player but he is technically sound in the Run game he's technically sound in pass protection he did have one one bad play where he just in pass protection he just let the defensive end go and started working out to a secondary player which caused some confusion for him and Sawchuk you pointed it out on the broadcast Ted I just I I think I I got what I kind of expect from Michael tarwin in this G in this game he doesn't create he doesn't create a ton of movement but he's always blocking someone when the play ends which is which is a good thing uh Jacob ston thought he looked better at tackle than he did at guard when he had to bumped guard after Hickman's injury he just he's tall man and it's sometimes it's hard for tall guys in the interior I I did not think he created a ton of movement in the Run game thought his base got a little wide in pass protection late in the game which you know can make it hard to redirect especially for a tall guy we got 10 snaps of Branson Hickman until he went down with the ankle which is a different leg than the knee was dealing with in training camp so that guy is beat up but I did think he looked pretty dang good in his first 10 plays you just we only got 10 plays he rolled his ankle twice and we never saw him again I I I don't really know what to expect it felt visually just you know kind of watching it a as it all unfolded the offensive line was there was a totally different feel to the group after he went down like you get thinner and the Dynamics of the the whole group kind of changed as everyone moves around I I think Branson Hickman does a really good job of what I am always asking offensive linemen to do he grabs people and does not let go he grabs people and doesn't let them go smart it's how the position should be played but yeah you got you got 10 snaps of him so you've got this very limited sample size of what that looks like looking at Garen Hatchet so he starts at left guard then he bumps to Center and to me and I went back and watched some of his Washington stuff to kind of compare it and he looks like a guy that's kind of playing with one and a half arms that's what it looks like on tape very little push in the Run game uh rarely gained much ground with his footwork he gave up multiple QB hits in pass protection and I think it has everything to do with whatever's going on with his left arm because it's pretty obvious when guys go to his left arm at they go through his shoulder like he's he's struggling to grab people with that arm he got beat when he got beat it was over his left shoulder yeah pretty much every time so I think he's he's having an issue with that arm and Houston two lane everyone's going to see that on tape they're going to attack that arm I it's just if I see it they see it yeah so I that was that was unfortunate because his feet are good he's calm I I think he's he's got his eyes for the most part he's got his eyes where they need to be but when you can't grab people with one of your hands or you're you're experiencing some weakness in an arm and it just it makes it really hard to play interior offensive line even against Temple yeah and he's got what he got the big brace on yeah so it's not like I mean it's already sticking out on film that you've got a massive brace on that arm yeah so there's there's going to be a big Bullseye there is there any do you know should we expect that to get better I would not expect it to get better yeah typically if you're dealing with if you're wearing that brace it's for one or two reasons elbow or bicep yeah and typically playing football games and practicing football is not how those injuries recover right well I don't know hopefully hopefully Hickman is I hate that he's banged up but now that he's got got the ankle I bet the knee feels better one would hope uh fegi weu I I thought he was by far the best offensive lineman in the Run game he finished blocks the best he displaced defensive lineman the most he had a couple snaps in pass protection where it just looks like he's a little unsure of where he's working for example I know Spencer Brown is getting killed for the play where the defensive end makes the inside move right and goes in sacks Jackson Arnold and everyone say oh my God Spencer Brown is terrible well in that concept Fai we was supposed to be there if the inside move is made now Spencer Brown sets too far there's no reason for him to set that far but he makes an out call to the guy that is playing nickel and I know why he did safety stacked over the top you're like okay in that look why is the safety stacked over him he may be coming off the edge hey let's go out to him instead of going to the Mike who's in the AAP reasonable call I saw what he saw smart football Spencer Brown's got his eyes outside faet we's got his eyes outside but he's not where he's supposed to be with his body now Spencer Brown you cannot drift that far with your set there's no reason to he went too far but if that guy comes inside Fai Buu is supposed to be there so you got everyone saying Spencer Brown is awful when really hey you're supposed to be there 54 if that move if that move is made it's bad by both guys but that's just one of those examples where it's like hey man you cannot make that mistake he's too good of a player you cannot make that mistake but we was he's a little he gets lean in a little too much and pass protection and if he can just be a little more balanced he won't drifts so far whether he's kicking or whether he's post setting and defensive lineman won't be able to feel that weight shift and like counter so quickly that is when you when you lean that way defensive linemen are trying to feel that and they counter if he doesn't lean as much if he stays a little more balanced I think he's gonna be I think he's going to be just fine I I really liked what I saw from him in the Run game and then Spencer Brown can I ask you something about fi real quick absolutely what do you think is his best like what's the best run concept for him you think gapsk stuff as a as a puller or as like a guy yeah Deuce block guy I he he did when he was on the back side of it's really not Zone it's ver but when he is on the backside and him and Spencer Brown were double teaming a down guy like that's where the best movement was created by the offensive line was those guys caving that backside and moving that guy up to the second level like he's he can move people in the Run game man he is he is 340 pounds and makes 340 look pretty D good so I I I think he is yeah he is a he is a road Graden type of guard that that's who he is but uh Spencer Brown I do want to say little banged up playing in the game want to give him a little credit for that but he's for the most part blocking the correct people and it's just not very imposing he kind of just holds on it's not it's not what you're looking for he is I don't know if you'd call it blocking or if he's just getting in the way like shielding his greatest strength is is is his link the dude's got incredibly long arms and doesn't really use those as weapons but he had issues against Temple if you have issues against Temple you're gonna have issues of against everyone that's left on this schedule for Oklahoma it just I I don't know what else to say other than that yeah well I don't know hopefully [Music] um I mean it's good to get we've got a little bit of time not a lot of time it's good to get a lot of this stuff on tape for those guys to see I mean there's you always learn so much more about yourself in a game than you do in practice so hopefully we we can see some good steps forward there some backup offensive line thoughts Logan Howen you got to be more violent with your hands and pass protection the feet are good the Anchor's good if you use your hands and you stop catching you're GNA be in business man and I think he's a player that's going to continue to develop and it's likely they're going to need him at some point this season he thida came in and actually moved some people with his opportunities m i mean that is a big dude so he he came in and thought he came off the ball well moved some people and then with Josh Bates I I know he's know was has been battling an injury through camp but it's it's a pretty big indictment on him that bill rearranged the entire offensive line instead of just putting him in it Center when Hickman went down yeah like if I was Josh Bates that would hurt me to my core like instead of just inserting me into the football game you rearranged the entire offensive line yeah how much of that you think is is he's battling the injury I'm hoping a lot yeah but for him I'm just going to need to I'm going to need to see a high level of play before I believe he's that type of player we just haven't seen it yeah it's not really what I've seen out of practice and it's we haven't seen him put any of that on tape so I thought he had had him down for 16 snaps and they were meh yeah is the best way I'd describe it like he was playing against Temple's backups like what am I supposed to take from that right I I don't know we'll see I feel like I'm not making anyone feel better about the offensive line but I'm just being honest this is this is and that's what we do on here like I watch and I kind of relay what I saw and you know guy by guy that's kind of what I saw so we we'll see I'm extremely interested to see what the Run game looks like against Houston and T Lane if it looks the way that it did against Temple then I'm going to be very discouraged and I'm not just talking about from an execution standpoint I'm talking about from a scheme standpoint yeah they do not have the o line to run it really efficiently with the plays that they put on tape against Temple just the designs just the concepts right so I'm interested to see how that run menu grows or maybe it changes pretty dramatically we'll see yeah well I think the the biggest thing is it's I think it's very difficult to actually um to know what we have with Taylor being out out with Hickman being banged up with a bunch of guys Spencer Brown fighting like everyone's fighting through something which you know it's football they're not the only offensive line in the country who's battling through injury problems right now trust me um it happens so hopefully we get some guys healthy and I mean I I think it starts with Hickman because you know if we can solidify this Center Spot then everything else feels like you know you can set it at least into place a little bit better and start working on some things there um yeah I I don't know got to get healthy but I'm with you on some of the Run game stuff it and I I've how many how many Clips did I send you this weekend of other teams running wide Zone running Concepts where there just it creates space and makes things difficult on the defense I just I don't get it man I just don't understand we we don't we don't make the backers move a whole lot it's all kind of just right in front of you you don't have to don't make them move at all no the reason Sam Franklin had his long run was because the front side backer for temple was just shocked that the ball actually went front side yeah I mean shocked stunned there was just no one in the egap for Temple and when you don't make the back ERS move play action doesn't work you know if if they don't have to move to fit runs play action has no effect on them that you're not you're not making them go anywhere so yeah I'm I'm with you hopefully we build on that and and get to some better stuff that we can start to build off of you can build off of some of those runs but you know we'll see get to call your shot let's hit a couple quick Ted Noah Holly say say want to see more from Thompson and we desperately need Nick Anderson back if this Same Old Line shows up in SEC play it's going to be a very interesting season yes um yes to all yes to all uh we've gone very quickly from hey this is going to be one of the deepest wide receiver groups that we've had in a long time to Jen Gibson gone for the season Jalil Faro gone for eight weeks at a you know at a minimum he's going to be gone for most of the Season uh Nick Anderson out and you start to look around really quickly and say like what do we do now like we had great depth now we're incredibly thin so yeah we've got to get healthy at that position it can happen fast this other one you're going to love this one it comes from at OU Mike 10 he says I don't know if this counts but when coach stops was on the radio broadcast hearing his dislike for the rough necks and this the story behind why was something I will never forget had me crack it up that was great that was great for those of you that didn't listen to our radio broadcast first of all what are you doing second of all coach stops told a story that i' had never heard before of him getting rolled up by some rough necks at the Independence Bowl which resulted in him like in a knee injury and him having to be on the couch for five days and Miss like an entire recruiting trip and he certainly has not dropped that Grudge he was like I don't mess with the rough neck stay away from me I mean it was such a funny story has been 25 years and it's like it happened yesterday offended by the the wound was still fresh he said they took me out no one even said sorry no one said anything to me that's great oh we we need to put that out put that out on social media from the uh from the Radio Twitter let's talk about but ultimately George's Talent George's Depp just took over in the second half uh they really got the Run game going in the second half found some creases that resulted they then built on that found some big plays in the passing game and I thought Clemson's defense should be very proud of the way that they played they just didn't they didn't get anything from their offense I mean it's all about playing complimentary football and Clemson's defense was just on the field for too long and Clemson didn't have they did not have the type of Playmakers on offense to to get much of anything done against a Georgia defense that oh I'm shocked looks like the real deal yeah it it felt like you know in a basketball game often times it's the score is somewhat easy early on but you could just visually tell that one side is getting buckets easily the other side it is an absolute grind to try and try and find a way to get the ball through the hoop and that's what it felt like with Clemson it was close but you could just tell that they were they needed like extraordinary things to happen and you know it was just it was very difficult to find any yards at all and you felt like at any moment the gates were going to swing open for Georgia so I mean it was a good job staying close for a while but too deep the talents just too much and honestly I thought the biggest difference for me I mean and there was a lot of it but Beck was I thought he was outstanding at quarterback he does such a good job for them making the right play making the easy play the smart play he had some really nice throws but a lot of it is just distribute the football pull it down and and pick up a first down every now and then it's just smooth efficient play at quarterback he looked a tier maybe two above Kade kumnick in this game just way more he was playing on time way more anticipatory throws more accurate uh took better care of the football than Club Nick did don't get me wrong Georgia's defense looks Elite they controlled the line of scrimmage Clemson could not run the football and when that happens if you want to win the football game man you got to have a special guy at the quarterback position to go out there and make plays and that is just not what k Club Nick is I I thought he underthrew several deep balls where Clemson wide receivers had a chance to go go win yep and it was just short and underthrown the interception is a perfect example but it's probably worth mentioning also that Georgia didn't have its top two running backs in this game and then Nate Frasier the guy that started running wild in the second half is a freshman georg's just got dudes dudes as far as the eyes can see that's the problem with them right now is even even if you can match them for a little bit they just the talent at some point overwhelms you and they've got the edge at probably every position on most teams in the country and it's just a matter of time before all of those those matchups that that they got the advantage in start to work themselves out in a football game it's just hard to keep Pace the conversation around dbos Sweeney and his refusal to use the transfer portal is going to ramp up you look at Georgia who has arguably the most talented roster in college football they've won two out of the last three national titles back shoulder throw on the touchdown Kobe young transfer from Miami London humph shallow cross catches it looks like they Clon lad makoni by the way but I mean takes the shallow cross to the house biggest play in the second half right transfer from Vandy I Clemson is not a serious National Title Contender anymore they will not be a serious National Title Contender until Davos Sweeny starts taking transfers that's just how I feel and I think I think this game was a perfect display of that and I as I watched Miami in Florida and watched cam Ward part of me started going what happens if that guy played quarterback at Clemson yeah not Miami how different does that game look and it just I that's just where I'm at with Clemson really good program gonna continue to produce a ton of Pros especially on the defensive side of the ball but I just they are they are not a serious National Title Contender to me anymore until Dabo adapts just where I'm at with them I I I think that they and I agree with you [Music] um as far as competing for a national championship I think they they lack they have lacked for a while a quarterback that makes everyone around them better if you just line up Clemson's roster right now across the board with most everyone in college football they're right there or better outside of you know just a small handful of teams the problem is they don't have a quarterback that accentuates the talent on the roster at all and that is going to be very difficult to overcome whenever you play the better teams like Georgia it became apparent very quickly that there's there's one guy on Georgia's side that does a really good job accentuating the talent that they have and on the Clemson side you don't get anything close to that so I I totally agree and it's a good point with Cam Ward because he was making plays for Miami Miami goes to the swamp and smacks Florida around 41 to 17 and it could have been worse this was a good oldfashioned whooping cam W just might be the best player in college football dude seemed in complete control of everything even his stupid interception looked cool it was a terrible decision but I was just like that is a that is one nice looking interception he just looked so calm his accuracy for the most part was really impressive the dude is not afraid to push it down the field used his Mobility when he needed to to pick up first downs as a runner used his Mobility to extend plays his ability to spin out of pressure is impressive some quarterbacks just have that yeah the environment did not phase that young man at all I thought it might incorrect he was I mean I was wildly impressed with what he just did that was that was fantastic and it makes me think that Miami has everything they need to go win the ACC yeah I I thought he was great and he's one of those players where every now and then you you come across guys where the bigger the moment the more difficult the environment the better play you get out of him and and he just might be that kind of guy so no I'm with you I thought Mii look like a really balanced overall well- coached football team which has been a problem for them over the years I mean Talent hasn't often been an issue for them it's do they look like a disciplined well coached organized football team and I thought that was one of the things that really stood out to me overall for Miami is they just looked put together that makes sense completely agree it's especially at the line of scrimmage thought Miami's offensive line did a really nice job controlling the game they ran it efficiently as a team and then cam Ward had all day in the pocket the majority of the game I I thought that defensive line for Miami other than Montell Johnson's long touchdown run on the P pin pull play to the boundary Florida essentially did nothing on offense and it was because that group of transfers from Miami on the defensive line it looks like that group's fitting well together they they got after a floa offensive line that some of the lack of effort plays by Florida's offensive lineman in that game if I was that o line coach I don't know how he didn't strangle a couple of those guys on the sideline now you have the tablet you can watch it you can watch the play like I don't know how he didn't fight one of them there's just a couple Graham Merz is getting killed and their offensive linemen have stopped it was insane I it was making me I was upset on my couch watching it I just don't know how you I don't know how you're okay with putting something like that on tape it's crazy to me but really really nice performance by Miami and I just how long does Billy ner last I don't know if he if he wants to save his job just put DJ lague in let him go let him trying to create some stuff and maybe muck it up a little bit in some games and can hang around yeah that guy's a physical specimen but move the pocket more QB Run game if you show some promise maybe you keep your job but what Graham Merz have like 91 yards passing it that was that was as bad as it could have gone for Florida Miami came into their house and smacked them around and made him quit that's as bad as it could have gone for Billy Napier and Miami probably could have scored more points yeah they uh they better get they better get better quickly because they may they may get the old Florida sweep oh that team they play UCF too right yeah you better come together because you may lose to Miami UCF and Florida State my last thought on that game it took me a while cam Ward reminds me of Kyler Murray really yeah play the the demeanor the the flare for the position the spinning out of pressure if you don't get too caught up in the size aspect of things which I know is hard with Kyler he's clearly there's very few quarterbacks on plet Earth that can run like Kyler runs but the mobility the arm angles he just plays the position with a and this is a positive thing like a nonchalantness I thought I was sitting there going who does he remind me of what is just getting back there buying time then whipping it with an incredible strong arm I was like that's I I am I am detecting some Kyler Murray Vibes here I'm gonna have to evaluate that I'll evaluate that I'll get back just file it away file it away let me know what you think we we'll watch him play again Notre Dame what a win went to cyfield place was going crazy and the Fighting Irish get it done 23-13 Ted I can only imagine how much you loved this game a whole lot of Defense in this one lot of Defense um physical football game I thought you know there were moments where I thought Texas A&M looked like they were it was just kind of waiting for something to happen there offensively and they could take control of the game but that never came and as the game wore on it became pretty clear that A&M's kind of holding on for deer life and Notre Dame is has has made it clear they're the better football team they're close but the offense for Notre Dame the playmaking at quarterback was just a little bit better I was not impressed with Connor Wegman at all I was not impressed with the A&M offense at all would they have 245 246 yards of offense I mean I understand playing it and calling it conservative because of the type of football game it was and and what you are on defense but I mean at some point you've got to open it up a little bit and and let your quarterback try and make some throws and they did that a little bit but I mean You' got to back some of those defenses off of you or it just becomes there's no way that you're going to move the football if you don't get people backed off the line of scrimmage I thought the biggest difference in the game was Notre Dame's ability to produce in the Run game and that was you know the long Jerian price touchdown run Jeremiah Love and what he did late in that game but but it also was Riley Leonard that guy's ability to run I I think the mobility difference between the quarterbacks was one of the biggest reasons why Notre Dame won the football game yeah and Riley Leonard is easy to cheer for that is a gritty dude I'm not sure he didn't play essentially that entire football game concussed after that targeting call early but he made he got hardfought yards he picked up first downs in critical situations and you just didn't get that from Conor Wegman really at all I was I was very underwhelmed by what I saw from A&M's quarterback yeah and you mentioned the targeting call the A&M lost some guys throughout that football game too that were a big impact you know lost some a couple of difference making defensive linemen early in the game yeah yeah and that that was I thought that would ended up being a factor but you're right I it's the playmaking ability at quarterback the the ability to run around make some plays go pick up some tough first downs with your legs like if you don't have that in college football it's so you have to have a Difference Maker at quarterback you just do and not that Wegman's not a Difference Maker I think he's he's a good solid player but in this one Riley Leonard was the better player Notre Dame was two2 on third down how do you win a game when you're two2 on third down yeah sounds familiar you win the turnover battle 20 that's how that's how you win it and the only other thing on this game is I picked A&M to win the game I thought Conor Wegman was going to play better when I saw that shot of him just casually puking during the game I knew it was over I did not like where I was like well this seems like a game Notre Dame is gonna win that that's not a good sign if the quarterback's just casually duing coming off the field not not what you're looking for no yeah that's not good just I will say that Jason White used to puke before every game before is fine during is not right uh that's uh that was still it still a good football game I thought the environment was awesome um how do you think A&M A&M A&M fans feel the defense right Elco is a defensive guy he was brought in to get that defense rolling their defense played well enough to win the football game yeah the offense is what let him down and I think it's it's probably expected that the defense was going to be better at least in the beginning like it's going to take a while for the offense maybe to catch up but they probably feel like it's not a good sign but here's the thing that was a good type football game with a I think Notre Dame's a legit tot Tim football team don't you so I mean I don't know obviously you'd feel much better had you won the football game but I don't I don't think that A&M is far off I if some things can come around we got to remember Wegman still hasn't played whole lot of football so I don't know I guess I guess if I were A&M fan I would be optimistic for the upcoming season I think that I think they're they're going to be a tough football team this year record-wise I don't know but they're going to be tough to beat especially at home Notre daname may have some difference making skill guys Bo Collins could not look better in utre Dame jersey I agree I don't I don't know what it is but he looks better in a utre Dame jersey than he did at clips of Jersey he looked incredible and then the running backs like love and price they both those guys looked explosive those guys looked like they had juice and that's what's been missing a lot of the time for Notre D that's been the conversation like do they have enough speed and size at the skill positions you factor in Riley Leonard's ability to run Notre Dame fans got to be excited as hell they it they feel like a lock for the playoff at this point yeah I would say the only thing to look out for is like one of the es in that game was Riley Leonard's ability to make plays with his legs it has to make you nervous every time he takes off you know took the injury last year if you know he a big this was a big game and those are big moments so you got to go do it but he needs to be selective this year on whenever he's selling out with his body to pick up first downs he does have one or two moments every game he plays where you're going o is he G to get up yeah yep heasy got to root for though I don't totally agree I don't like Notre Dame having a quarterback that's easy to root for doesn't happen often yeah let's let's give him some time and see if we'll that as the season yeah we as the season progresses all right let's finish up with our winners and losers of the weekend but first new sponsor alert Schwab meat swab meat loves football they shootout okay I no you don't you are a liar from a from afar I like a shootout from from afar and nothing is better than winning a big time instate rivalry that's why for my winner of the week I've got to pick Texas Tech getting the win over abene Christian 5251 get the stuff on the two-point conversion walk off Victory and to see those Tech defensive players celebrate after getting that stop it just it makes you feel good this is what football's all about I where where is your Club troll is it hid are you hiding it behind your back like that was I was so confused when you were setting that up that was an alarming game for Tech yeah normally and for those of you that didn't see it Tech beat abene Christian 5251 in overtime yes and Tech didn't turn the ball over they just got sliced and diced by abalene Christian what was the quarterback's name like Maverick what a great quarterback name I'm pretty sure Maverick mver or something like that Maverick was just carving them up that is did you see the shot of them show the players and then show Joey Maguire oh yeah dude it's like I you could write a novel with just that those two frames team in absolute celebration for stuffing the two-point conversion abene Christian then it goes to Maguire taking the headset off with the walk to the the Walk of Shame to the 50 yard line to shake the opposing coach's hand oh man hey they got the win right and I feel a rivalry developing between AAL Christian uh now a big time player in division one football in Texas Tech everything runs through lck they they didn't turn it over they were eight of 15 on third down they gave up 615 yards of offense to abene Christian 506 through the air oh oh it hurts it hurts stop Baron Borton played well yeah I thought he looked good with what I saw but yeah that's one where if you're a tech player a Tech coach a tech fan yes you got the win but that's an alarming result in an open yeah well because it wasn't a fluky 600 yards of offense and 51 points they just carved you up through the air yeah you didn't turn it over four times you didn't like there was none of that yeah one of the things that you don't want to do in season is like just go out and bear all of your weaknesses for the entire world to see in your first game and some folks did that uh Tech did it in the passing game you could say Oklahoma did it with you know our offensive line I mean yeah that's now you have to start very early defending against what what people are going to attack so uh good news is you can't get better that is the good news and you won the game winning winning that one feels a whole lot better than losing it okay y who do you have is your loser of the weekend do you remember the I'm sure you've seen um Gladiator right oh one of my favorite movies you remember early on when they're off fighting the a battle and uh he ask why can't people tell when they're conquered I feel like the NCAA needs to recognize when they're conquered why are they coming after Oklahoma State why are they fighting this battle I mean what tech why did they kill our qar code fun I know I think like technically I think they're right but still do you got to pick your battles I guess and maybe you have to battle everything if you're the NCAA but it was just I don't know I I was frustrated by it I thought it was a cool fun idea by Oklahoma State um whatever but NCAA the fun police once again Counterpoint M them telling Oklahoma State they can't have the QR code on their helmet only brings more attention to it and it's actually the best thing that could have happened for Oklahoma State I see where you go with that that yeah I think you may be right first of all that football game olly Gordon's still very good at football yep I thought Bowman looked good too Oklahoma State they they've got so many guys back it's such an old team like they look good and Sou Dakota State all signs point to them going and winning another championship this year that that is a that is a solid football team they're better than Temple yeah but which is not saying much but yeah that's I think that's where I'm at with the with what happened I think that that brought more attention than actually having the QR code on their helmet would because the vast majority of college football fans they would never donate to Oklahoma State why would they right unless you're an Oklahoma State fan but I do feel we're all kind of United Under This Hate umbrella for the NCA and you could get a couple guys that had a couple Cold Pops in them on a Saturday go you know what screw the NCA I'm giving him five bucks yeah yeah here's here's the QR code to help help fund our legal battle against the NCAA G you talked about it after the game basically said hey I don't want anybody in the NCA trying to drop the hammer on the player I love he goes if they came after me I'd love it I mean good good luck I continue to love Mike Gundy Mike Gundy produces absolute gold at least once a week via press conference he's he is he is has to be one of the best press conference coaches of all time there's some really good ones out there um part of it's the longevity he's been he's been a really good press co uh press conference coach for a for a long time can't miss entertainment for sure all right let's get to my winner and loser but first we're brought to you rules and rest restrictions May apply for my winner of the weekend thought about going with Caitlyn Clark dropped 31 and 12 against Chicago Sky probably probably sealed the deal for Rookie of the Year treating Angel Reese's team like that but really the reason I'm uh I'm bringing up Caitlyn Clark guess who I'm going to watch today oh you going to watch Caitlyn Clark yeah Dallas Wings Dallas Wings Indiana today Ted a little WNBA action I'm I'm actually really excited it should be awesome that be cool that'll be cool packed house it is sold out every SE so I am you say what you want about Caitlyn Clark she sells tickets I will report back on Wednesday about how uh how the Caitlyn Clark experience is in person but my winner of the weekend and I'm pretty sure this is a first in the history of the podcast give me the Vanderbilt commodor okay the fighting Clark Le give me the doors Ted because Bandy was a 13 and a half Point home dog to Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech has been kind of a hot pick a hot pick come out of the ACC possibly a lot of people talking Darkhorse Heisman candidate with Kiren drones this game everything in the fourth quarter everything you could possibly want Vandy blew a 17-point lead they're down 27 to 20 then Diego Pavia just goes off leads him on a fourth quarter drive it starts making think hey this one could go to overtime will they get a stop they get the stop Vandy sets up for the game-winning field goal 43 y crane in the background Construction in the end zone the future of Andy foot ball so bright wide right we're going to overtime I got to tell you we I was flipping around all day and we were all outside and we came across that game and started watching like oh my God so they're lining up for the field goal I was like there's no way he makes this field goal he's gonna Hook It Wide left there's there's no chance and I'm telling you when he pushed it to the right we all just died laughing I feel kind of bad about that they pan to the uh Vanderbilt sideline and they're all like running on the field celebrating and then Clark Lee's like oh it has to put his headset back on ah it was if if you like torture that was what you had to watch that so it was I was glad to see that they came back and won it roller coaster of emotions for Vinnie yeah they get it done in overtime I iron drones cramped in overtime it just wasn't out there Brit pry after the game said he ran out of gas like dude what gas can't run out of gas can't can't happen he is I like him yeah he's gonna be one of those QBs that shoots up draft boards I will be I'll be very very surprised with his size and athleticism an ability to push it down the field I'll be surprised if he's not a first-rounder the quarterback play was really fun to watch in this one Diego Pavia transfer from North or from New Mexico State wow guy is wildly entertaining to watch runs around he's got good speed good athleticism just Gunslinger mentality all the confidence in the world after watching his postgame press conference guy legitimately thinks he's the best player in the country I love it that's the kind of guy Vandy needs to win this is a this is a massive win for Vanderbilt who knows what the rest of the season looks like but very very few people thought that they would win this football game I mean at a minimum it makes it it makes everyone's schedule look a little bit different you know if they're going to be like if they can continue some of this play um where it's still a game you should win but it's going to require a bigger percentage of your effort than maybe you had anticipated great win happy for Clark le happy for that football team do want to put out point out one situation this football game where I immediately thought of you okay third quarter it's Fourth and 10 VY has the ball at the plus 35 No Man's Land are you going to go for it on Fourth and 10 are you going to try to kick a 52 53 yard field goal you Tred are you going to punt it and try to pin him deep Clark Lee defensive guy punt it let's try to pin him deep the Vandy punter punts it eight yards deep into the end zone in the air just it's one job Ted that's it just don't put it in the end zone one job but it gets better it gets better Virginia outdoes vand punters atrocity they have two guys on the field on their punt return team that are both wearing number zero they get a five-yard penalty they replay the down Clark Lee said hey I just watched my idiot punter booted into the end zone let's try the field goal guy buries a 53 y to go up 20 to1 well that makes the decision a little easier from now on doesn't it good night can we the competition committee needs to address the number situation right it's so stupid with all of the duplicate numbers we either need to make duplicate numbers illegal so we don't have to deal with this crap or on special teams play can we eliminate the duplicate number problem that we have where guys are switching jerseys and announcing crap is it really necessary it is it's one of the shenanigans that makes college football football what of what are the little intricacies that we you just have to love about the sport I yeah loser the weekend thought about going with Oregon did not expect the to sweat one out against FCS Power Idaho wow I was Gabriel had massive numbers yeah yeah he was what was he 41 or 49 something crazy like that threw it like 50 times yeah and it's it's probably not a good sign that he had to throw it 50 times against Idaho but and I don't mean to disrespect the Big Sky the mighty Big Sky but that that's maybe exactly what Dan Lanning needed for that team right oh everyone's picking you know to possibly win the Big 10 to go to the playoff to be some people picking you to win the national title hey you barely beat Idaho guys let's lock in yeah we'll see I I didn't get to see any of it you just saw the you know the box score and stuff and we were talking about it some last night um it you know the efficiency is not surprising one because we've seen Dylan Gabriel but two because I saw what B Nick's efficiency looked like last year the dude was like 77% completion percentage for the season or something crazy last year so I guess that wasn't all that surprising I wonder looking at that low score though like how are you 41 of 49 but you only put 24 points up like that's interesting it's a it's one of those when you go look at the Box Store you go what did I miss how how is this possible yep my loser of the weekend pains me to do it because Neil Brown's our guy West Virginia a lot of people thought this could be possibly a dangerous situation for Penn State you even had the super long weather break on your side if you're the Mountaineers and it didn't matter Penn State just kind of smacked him around in Morgantown they just could not get much going offensively couldn't score touchdowns when they actually did get into the Red Zone turned it over three times maybe this is the best way to put it everything they needed to do to pull off an upset against a really talented Penn State team they pretty much did the opposite Ted yeah I it was I was frustrated for Neil Brown watching that unfold because you had this big buildup big noon was there uh like the atmosphere looked awesome massive sellout crowd you've got all this good energy in your stadium and then you've got a long delay and it just it was it was it was frustrating to watch and I will say this one of the things I was really interested about with Penn State was watching that cotal Nikki offense you and I big fans of what he does looked pretty good A more explosive Place yeah for Penn State thought Drew Aller looked pretty solid he did I mean that little I thought he was maybe a little slow to get going but definitely made some big plays and big throws they got the running game going in the second half Nicholas Singleton with a couple of massive runs including that long touchdown run I just there's a couple other things in this game number one West Virginia tried to run the tush push on fourth and one with Garrett green they do not have Jason Kelce at Center and they do not have Jaylen Herz at quarterback that seemed like a very misguided weird odd decision yeah yeah I I me I I mean it can be something that when run well and done properly with the right Personnel obviously as we've seen is Unstoppable that was not the same that was not the same level of uh execution as we've seen with the Eagles the start of this football game it it's the shenanigans of college football Ted Penn State massive mistake to start the game turn it over on a snap it goes off through all's leg kicks around West Virginia jumps on it huge turnover by West Virginia's defense place is going crazy only for West Virginia to turn it up right back to them when they hit a guy with the snap a guy going across in motion it was the next play wasn't it just brutal college football is the best I I walked inside and then came back out and I was like what happened my brother like that they fun was at first play not good Shenanigans I still think West Virginia is gonna be a good football team this year though I do too I do I do too that's just when you think about the situation you're right the buildup big new being there you you wanna like if you lose to a really good Penn State team but you play really well and you're walking off the field feeling you never feel good when you lose but if you're walking off the field feeling like hey man we really competed in that game that's a really good team and we're a couple of plays away here or there from from getting that win you're feel you're encouraged for sure that's not what happened nope birthday shout outs welcome to the world David let me try that again welcome to the world David Dale Davis IV awesome and welcome to the the world Violet Grace Powell happy second birthday to Bandy Powell happy ninth
