EA Sports Madden 25 Preseason Week 3 Minnesota Vikings vs Philadelphia Eagles game!

e e e the third and final week of the pre-season is here a fourth exhibition game is a thing of the past it's the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles coming up next welcome football fans to the birthplace of America the City of Brotherly Love the place where you'll find the best cheese steak made in this country and some of the best football played inside Lincoln Financial Field I'm Kate Scot Jo by Brock the here in the Bo and here we are Brock final week of the pre-season one last Tun Up for stars and starters and of course the game where a lot of these great camp stories will clinch a spot on that one loster and I never tired of these great kid stories and they come from all different backgrounds some are undrafted guys some are Bets with a restart on their career but they used the preseason this game in particular to springboard some momentum into the regular season bill reer has it all teed up and away we go at the link here's a return from the seven and he's brought down the offense will come onto the field so here come the Eagles for their opening drive they're L out by QB coming into his fifth NFL season out of Oklahoma it's Jaylen Herz Kate it's not often that we talk about quarterbacks having a nose for the endzone in football it's usually reserved for the running backs but Jaylen Herz has changed that conversation he has so much power so much strengths you get him into the short yardage situations around the goal line he finds a way to get in but it's not just there he's got a deep ball that's the Envy of many he's elevated his teammates around him and he's got a skill set that I know a lot of quarterbacks would sure love to have he's on the move and they catch up to him but not until he's got a huge gain and a first down it's a pick up of 26 and that's good for an eagles first down obviously a defense wants to take away all the reads and prevent any kind of big throw for the first down Fine well this QB he'll just lower his head and gash the defense with one of the biggest runs of the game one play in and this drive is already in the enemy territory trying to throw here out of the gun BS out of the pocket quick now here he goes again and just how they teach you he gets a chunky yard and slides down at the end to protect himself that play good for 17 and a first down you know Kate back in the day we had a slipp and SL of practice for moments just like that actually practicing how to slide and get out of Harm's Way nice gain on the play and denied that defense he had another chance to take a shot on him they'll run here on first down and he's able to keep it moving down to the 28 it's a four yd pickup and that's going to bring up second and six you know these are the kind of runs Kate that a balanced game plan and a balanced offense is built on it gets you good yardage it sets up your play action and it keeps that defense honest second and six now couldn't bring it in over the middle incomplete that just goes to show you can't take any completion for granted even on some of the shortest passes in the game [Music] plan so after that prior incompletion we've got third [Applause] down back to throw Herz that's complete here's Brown and he'll be brought down here at the 23 yd line those kind of completions are so frustrating Kate it's like a putt you got it online you feel good about it's going in the hole but you never want to leave it short looks like they will indeed try it fourth and [Applause] two hers he finds him beyond the marker and he's going to be stopped at the 17 yd line they come through with six yds there Brock and they're awarded with a new set of downs I love those moments of Truth we get to see exactly how they handle it when all the pressure the drives right on them turns out handled it pretty darn well and now they'll keep pushing on first down from the Red Zone pass complete to Campbell and they'll Advance this down to the 5 yd line it's a real solid pick up 12 yds and it rewards him with a first and goal boy they sure found the right route at the right time to hit the soft spot in that coverage in that slant it goes for big yardage this offense in position now it's first and [Applause] goal here's hers dumps it off to his running back and the defense gets there to force a small L when there's heat that Blitz coming off the snap that QB's eyes you could see it right away he got to his check down in a hurry but Kate here is the key quarterback and running back have to be on the same page the two were right there and it netted some positive yards HS to throw and he scores it's a Philadelphia touchdown the Eagles finish up an excellent opening Series it's a Devonte Smith touchdown well he couldn't ask for a better start to a game than that the offense taking it all all the way down the field and finishing with six these opening drives Kate are such tone Setters it is why every offense loves to script their first 15 plays right everybody knows what's coming allows you during the practice week to get into Rhythm but even better when you're that sharp that crisp and you finish off and get the early [Applause] lead that one right down the middle and they add one on to their first touchdown of the contest [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] to the to Victory Elliot all set for the kickoff this one's fielded at the four yd line and he's brought down just inside the 25 on the return here come the Vikings taking the field for their first drive of the game and we'll take a glance at their seventh year QB if we had asked Sam darnold coming out of USC as the third overall pick in the draft to write the story of his career I don't think he would have written some of these chapters but in the end it makes you tougher it makes you grittier and playing quarterback in the NFL is a lot about that your ability to just withstand adversity and to continue to get up Time After Time After Time and Sam darnold has shown that kind of perseverance darnold that one Falls incomplete could make the connection deep down field his first Target doesn't lead to his first catch so it's second down coming up I think it's fair to say in the eye in the sky didn't line without that ball being tipped we were looking at the big game missed opportunity to push their offense in a great play on the other side to deny the throw second and 10 now oh put some heat on this deep ball left side he had it for roll but a complete defensive play to jarr lose incomplete you know he's not going to be Happ catch was almost made but he's going to be thrilled if he broke it up gives him a chance to do a little join after the play let that other guy know he just rucked him up and lost a big catch last pass unsuccessful and they have third down here here's Donald and even on third down he sees no choice other than to get rid of this not the play they wanted it's going to be fourth down so often so many these games in the NFL will they come down to a play or two in third down whether it's in a close game or already out of hands the coach wants to see them convert those fourth down and on comes the punt team and the kicks away and they bring him down to put a stop to that return nice kick there it's a punch of 53 yards and the offense ready to head back out onto the field [Applause] Eagles in a good spot here as they come up to the line first and 10 running left this is Barkley and he's brought down after a short game only gets a yard there to make it second and nine got some positive yards that's a good thing but too many plays like that it just is too hard to pile together get first downs and gets the better defenses in this lead here we go second and nine got him in over the middle complete and they're going to bring him down just on the other side of Midfield they'll get 14 yds and a new set of downs sure seems like he knew exactly what he wanted and he got it going right where he wanted to with the ball off the [Applause] snap first and 10 from a yard shy of [Applause] Midfield now hers rolling left trying to get away from the pressure but he can't and they drop him and the big play drives them back second down coming up and look at that all that effort and success from the previous play it is gone credit to this defense who snapped and clear that's part of this game you got to snap and clear give up a big play come back and make a big one for yourself and they do get home that sack all right here we go second [Applause] down another try following the sack escapes out to the left he tucks it and takes it off but once a play breaks down you're just looking for a running L just a little bit of room just a little bit of air in the pocket he found one of those two but the defense swarms towards him and denies him the other third and 10 can this offense get it [Applause] done shotgun snap looking to throw complete beyond the marer he's taken down at the 30 19 yd pickup and that's going to move the chains I'm not sure how this defense let that guy slip through him like that on third down nonetheless he took that snap as an opportunity man did he make an impact play first and 10 now from the [Applause] 30 so that connection for first will bring us to the end of the first neither sign separating much so far we'll return to the link right after this ready now for our second quarter the Eagles have the football they're looking at yet another first and 10 on this [Applause] drive tight end heels in the shallow throw and he's down inside the Red Zone before hitting the deck they get an even 10 on that play and that's a Philadelphia first down move the chains got to move them chains full momentum to keep that defense on its heels he brings the offense up now for a first and 10 out of the gun they'll give it to him inside and they make the stop but a lot closer to the end zone now he's got it to the 11 just a little short but still a nyd pickup that's going to bring up second and one well that doesn't net a first down you get yards like that in the Run game you will take it in the NFL nice spot here for the offense it's second and one her setting up to throw he's on the move oh he was on the move but show is the defense and they take him down that pushes him back third down coming up I know we talk about Rhythm a lot when it comes to music but it's the same thing with a quarterback in his protection this QB was in Rhythm but they knocked the notes out of him on that [Applause] one all plays on the table here for third and three they'll try and pick this up on the ground and he drives this forward to the six now hang on we do have to stop here for something that nobody wants to see a week before the season we've got an injured player there and it's somebody they can ill afford to lose [Applause] they'll break the Huddle and come up on first and goal they'll try and punch it in and he's brought down for a loss this is one of those situations Kate where I watch the body language of the running back because it'd be very easy for him to raise his hands up look at the sideline in his old line and go what am I supposed to do there there was nothing no time at all to try and escape and react instead it goes [Music] [Applause] backwards he gets it headed right and he is into the end zone for a Philadelphia touchdown the Eagles Take A 13-point Lead sa Juan barckley the touchdown they kept it on the ground as opposed to airing out and that time well Brock the ground game paid off well these great rushing attacks down here that could score rushing touchdowns it takes the whole party getting involved yeah the burst of the running back was tremendous how about the launch of his blockers right off the line of scrimmage that's a touchdown the entire way and it took the entire group [Applause] offensively that one splits the uprights and they'll continue adding to their lead [Music] [Applause] [Music] on the to VI [Applause] atel set for the kickoff his return starts at the five and he's brought down the offense will come onto the Field Minnesota all set to go for it second try they haven't been able to get that offense going just yet Brock the deficit at 14 B at the 33 for first down they're going play action he's just going to get rid of this one smart move there when you saw the field it's going to be second down everybody wants to play quarterback until a play like that no resistance off the ball and the defense ready to mul you it was all he could do to get rid of it before he gets just caughted so to the incompletion here comes the second down call here's Darnell the throw pass is hauled in by the running back and he'll push this up field and earn them a new set of downs play like this that's exactly where you want to get him the ball right on the outside where he's got the space in a lot more more room to work new set of downs for him from the 46 throwing here darnold has the connection to hackinson and he reaches Midfield and starts driving into Eagles territory quarterbacks will look for their tight end short in just about any situation they take away the deeper options now there's their consistent source of positive yardage the trusty tied end second and three the Eagles swarm in and take him down and that pushes him back third down coming up even from the booth Kate I can hear it I can hear that front seven telling the guys on the back end hey all I need is a couple seconds of lock down from you guys I'm going to get to this QB you promise that you deliver and that's exactly what they did wasted no time in getting that sack wonder what's in the Playbook here as they come up on Third and 11 now darnold he won't be able to make the catch it's incomplete that one missed the mark so that brings up fourth and long so many coaches love third downs and practice them so much why cuz there're a money down in the NFL whether it's a close game already out of hand coaches know got to execute convert on these third Downs punt team is on now and they get this away and he'll bring in this fair catch at the 13 the Eagles and St CL Barkley ready to take over once again they have played lights out on offense scored their first two times out brck a chance to go three for three and grow that lead [Applause] here and the drive will start out with a first and 10 Barkley on the shotgun hand off and he's brought down down across the 15 to about the 16 yd line two on the pickup there and it's going to be second and eight you know kid I like to call these body BS body BS you got to be committed to running the football even if it doesn't move the chains I guarantee you that wear and tear will pay dividends later here's another carry for Barkley breaks the tackle green grass ahead and give him six on the run as that play takes us to the two-minute War [Applause] War third and a lone yard coming up throwing here herds to the sideline he goes he makes the play pass up both beer down it's a 13 yd play and that's enough for the first when you watch the combine you'll watch guys try to make this throw and without chemistry it's so hard to execute that was picture perfect that's a QB and receiver on the same page because that route that deep out to now we have a stoppage no challenges inside of two minutes and the half but replay official wants to take another look at this on their own we're all watching that sideline here seeing where those feet came down and no matter what they rule here Kate that was an outstanding effort just to make the catch now we got to look and see did he get both beat in with possession after review the play ring on the field stand so they sent it to a second set of eyes in New York and the call on the field is confirmed first down ball at the 36 hers looking to throw that one is incomplete couldn't hang on through the contact tough one to retain through that hit and it's going to be second down I think that was a throw Kate that just came a little bit too late what it did is it gave that defense time to come up and deliver a pop and knock the ball loose before he could secure it [Applause] fully another throw here on second down this one is tipped away and incomplete good positioning to make a play on it that forces third down perhaps a bit late breaking towards the ball but still just enough time to get a finger on it and knock it [Music] away no connection on the last play and outs third down back to throw hers completed here to use Z and he made a bit for Midfield there but stopped at his own side at the 49 they get 13 on the pickup and that's good for an eagle first down and those are the completions they rely on from their passing game first and 10 from a yard shy of [Applause] Midfield hers no hesitation and that one's caught and we'll get this through the Midfield strike but starts pushing the Vikings territory okay one thing I learned from the lake R Mike Leech is yeah the system was called air raid but it wasn't just attacking downfield his philosophy and it played out right there is you have to attack every inch of the field both vertically and horizontally without routes or in routes just like that and there's a man there it's intercepted and the Vikings take possession of the football and just like that a really good drive is taken away in int sure was a lot of promas on that Series right that's a small silver lining for them at the very least but probably won't be much comfort now and it's going to feel even worse when this quarterback watches the tape tomorrow the Vikings with a football here late in the half they could use something to trim that deficit and enough time left to maybe get this near field goal range so good field position to start with for the Vikings this drive first and 10 darnold looking to throw no place to go so he just threw it away not on the same page that time and we'll see what they do here on second down you really want those throws to be like clockwork for your offense every team needs to hit passes in that short to intermediate range to effectively move the ball to throw again on second and 10 toward the sideline and he's got it impressive play but they are well shot in the first down I know I could sound like a broken record when I talk about timing and getting the ball out on time and on Rhythm but these out Cuts is so imperative in the best of them make it look oh so easy chance to move the chains here on third and four darnold now the throw he has the first over the middle and he's tackled after getting this to the opposing 46 the Vikings call a timeouts it'll be their first they'll have two left to work with before halftime [Applause] new set of downs for him from the [Applause] 46 darnold that's Jefferson he's got it and they get this down roughly to the 34 yd line Minnesota spends its second time out here and they still have one in their pocket for what's left of this half [Applause] here's first and 10 from the [Applause] 34 to throw here's darnold he'll get this to Jefferson and he's able to get this down to the 13 It's a 21 yd gain and it'll bring up a Minnesota first down you know K gear go my old high school receiver and I got together for a football camp I could still close my eyes and throw him that slant we've done it millions of times you get a QB receiver connection like that it's Dynam too far out of the back of the End Zone it goes incomplete you hear defensive coaches on every practice field we on preach not giving up the big play especially at the NFL level they'll need to stay vigilant cuz they're definitely going to use thater to take the lid off this defense [Applause] again and it is good no problems there on the shorter attempt we're at halime here in Philadelphia and the Eagles have soared to a lead at the break now we'll send you down the east coast to our Studios in Orlando Jonathan Coachman and the EA Sports halim report okay Kate thanks very much this the final game on the preseason schedule for these two teams after this comes final cutdowns and then we get started for real the countdown is on for the NFL kickoff game on the Thursday after laor day all right thank you coach and we are back and about set to begin the second half Elliot Elliot all set for the [Applause] kickoff return coming from the six and in the end he's able to get it to what used to be a Touchback it's at the 25 after the return out come the Vikings for the debut possession of our second half in the last Drive did end in points not as many as they wanted though they had to settle for that field goal despite advancing the football pretty well [Applause] offense ready to begin this drive first and 10 Straight Ahead they go with Jones and he's only going to get two or three yards on that one got to be Rush Hour Kate cuz there's a whole lot of traffic up the middle right there he ran right into some gridlock and he could only manage a few yards at most second down now seven to go from the 28 that one's complete right side and that's good yardage with a new set of downs you know I'm really not sure if that was an intentionally Brave play to challenge double coverage or just simply not seeing the two Defenders either way what a tremendous throw and catch that earns some [Applause] momentum on first down now'll run and he's caught behind the line for a loss well he was supposed to be the one who chipped away a few and got a new set of downs started right in Rhythm instead he's now forced to pick himself from behind the line thanks to a great effort defensively everyone's prepped it's second down now staying on the ground with Jones and he's going to bring it up to the 40 yd line before he stopped they'll get that yard back but no more it's third 10 [Applause] here's Don that's CAU for the first and they bring him down around the 34 that one goes for 25 yds and that's going to give the Vikings the first down nice to see that connection that chemistry working between the two of them [Applause] here's first and 10 from the [Applause] 34 now a give up the middle to Jones and that's good yardage there with a new set of downs to boot a split second all to kept the defense from making a stand right there it's amazing man this game of inches and Split Second reactions a nice bit of burst sech forward for enough to go get that first by a couple before they could finally drag him down they have themselves another first and 10 throwing with a blitz on the way he keeps those feed in and makes the catch as quarterback when you have an out route versus Man coverage you're just hoping and just praying your offense ni serani going to have the officials look at this one again he's throwing that challenge flat prev is under we're going to see how much of a sideline maven he is Brock this one very close whether he got the feet down or not and I'm so impressed by all these mavens because you've got to make that transition from college we one foot you're good yep but not at this level you've got to be a ballerina you got to get those toes both in in the replay Booth will be the judge of it after riew the on the field [Applause] after a good kick up they're set up with second and short back now pressure on its way this throw is CAU and he's tackled with the first down yardage it's a quarterback when you throw that curl right you know it's a tight window K but the minute that DB turns and can't react to the throw put it right on your receiver's num as he comes back and gets it and moves the sticks four downs now to get in here's first and goal option design here and he stopped just a little short of the goal line he's down to the two it's a pick up of five and that brings up second and goal that Run's not going to turn many heads but at the end of the year I promise you if you average over five yards a run he could be a pro Bower it's second and goal he gets another shot here and the defense is all over this one for a big loss Kate it's amazing how fast these guys are on the field and how fast your fortunes can turn second and short run you're feeling good about yourself with a negative play well now comes a critical third down they've held him out twice here we go now a third and goal here's darell to throw escapes the pocket and they get to him as he was trying to make something happen and that sack going to cost him some yardage this defense been trying like manad to do anything to disrupt the Rhythm get the QB off his spot it's got to be a massive relief to see their efforts paid off on that play so the Vikings will try a field goal on fourth down will rer headed out a very short kick here from the right hat and it is good no problems there on the shorter attempt and that brings the deficit back within a score eight points that's why they spend all the time on the practice field during the week that kind of operation perfect Rhythm perfect timing and a two for two for this kick [Applause] all right that lead cut down to eight after that score and the kick is away that's going to be taken in at the eight and a decent return ends as they bring him down inside the thir the Eagles ready to set up shop on offense they coming off their first interception of the game this drive now a chance to rebuild some [Applause] confidence they'll get this drive started first and [Applause] 10 hers to throw tight end cut across the middle and he's going to go down right along field it's a gain of 21 yds to pick up that first down I think the defense is still turned around looking for where the ball is is that QB and tight ends they got that ball out it a [Applause] [Applause] hurry only one play in Brook in this drive already to Midfield throwing from the gun here he sends this one in the end zone an alert play defensively there he got a hand on it to tip it away and that makes it second down I mean you can see it right there the trajectory of the ball changed as it was in Flight you know on shorter throws receivers it could focus it can adjust quickly but on a long distance throw like that a tip well it really Alters the course of the ball and makes it so tough to make an adjustment in [Applause] time the G here on second and he drives this across Midfield and down into enemy territory only two yards on the play and it brings up third and eight you know not a ton of yards but still showing that commitment to the ground game the type of run that keeps the defense from loading up in coverage and focusing entirely on that passing game it's third and eight need to get a chunk here Herz setting up to throw flushed out of the pocket he's running for it and they finally bring him down but that is a big gain in a new set of [Applause] down three quarters in the books from this one it's Eagles football trying to carry this lead across the finish line all right set now first and [Applause] 10 now Herz he's on the Move he's calling his own number again and he's brought down after a nice gain and a first down as long as these are the result he's getting they're going to be just following with him calling his own number he does such a good job of seeing the field and knowing when it's his time to take it himself and they've got themselves another first and 10 from the red zone now the shot to the end zone is incomplete took his shot at six that time and that'll bring up second down just something off in the rhythm of their passing game on that one time to recalibrate and keep throwing it to get back into Rhythm no dice on that prior pass here's second [Applause] down throwing here hurts and he scores it's a Philadelphia touchdown the Eagles lead by 14 it's a Devonte Smith touchdown his second scoring catch of the game exactly the play they were looking for Brock they saw it and he put it right on the money yeah it really was a perfect play this is what it looked like in practice but more importantly now to get it done in game time that's what you're looking for so we've got a stoppage now figured this might be coming we're going to take another look to see if this was indeed a touchdown previous play is under review well he sure made his best effort but did he manage to keep this one from hitting the ground and this is one of the most challenging calls for the replay Booth a number of years ago Kate it was fun I got to go sit at the replay convention honest to God they have them they have officials conventions replay conventions and these complete incompletes can be some of the most difficult to judge after review the play ruling on the field stand no change to the call on the field that play is going to remain a [Applause] touchdown Elliot on now to attempt the point after that one right down the middle and they'll continue adding to their [Music] [Applause] lead and watch fly the to Victory Elliot all set for the kickoff return starts at the nine and he's brought down the offense will come onto the field now the Minnesota offense trotting out they're up on two scores Brock but we've got some time left so they still need to out a drive here [Applause] Drive starts out with a first and 10 now [Applause] darnold got him in over the middle complete he's up to the the 35 yd line as they reel in well there's a time to be a little finesse with the football put a little touchd on and then there's time to put your arm into it and let it eat throw it right through your Target's chest this one that one right there was the ladder smart to make a fast ball zing in before anyone could undercut the curl right hand off on second and short and he's brought down at the line no gain on second down and they need two here on third made it all look so simple didn't he that linebacker sorting right through the traffic finding the runner that's instincts come to life short yardage situation here it's third and two Jones what more and he'll get it up near the 38 yd line before going down it's a meager 2yd gain but that's enough to award them the first down yeah I get it fans will measure a running back's Merit by touchdowns yards it's the fantasy football world we live in but as coaches and teammates Kate they want something a little bit more they want to see plays like that a guy who will always get the short yards in a critical spot like that throwing here darnold got a man coverage lawon complete and this is down to the 28 before the defense HS it how about a big hitter 34 yards there and a new set of downs you know K we often talk about flipping the field in special teams te right a kick return a good punt well an explosive play like that does the exact same thing look at the difference in field position by hitting on that shot you've totally flipped the field in the tone of this drive and he's going to score touchdown Minnesota the Vikings making a nine-point game Jordan Addison the touchdown quite the throw from him on that play Brock I got to say he looked like he'd make quite the emergency quarterback for this squad if the need ever arises huh and Kate I know how this plays out all right they worked on it all week he he showed out during the practice week on the practice field and now he just showed out when it really mattered and everybody's going to hear about it and they don't mind because you're absolutely right that was a dime for [Applause] six that one splits the upright and they're a point closer now on the scoreboard Vikings 13 [Applause] all right that lead cut down to eight after that score and the kick is away his return start at the five and this drive will start inside the 25 and his Effectiveness hasn't been limited to what he can do with his arm this season on that last drive he reached a significant Mark for his efforts on the ground as well they're out and set first and [Applause] 10 out of the shotgun they'll give it to him inside and he's going to be brought down up at the 28 yd line give him five on that carry bringing up second and five a humble five to six yd gain on the ground not a huge gain not a game-changing play by any means but one that keeps you on schedule and takes some of the starch out of that front [Applause] seven he go to Barkley again and he'll take it up to the 30 before being brought down two yds on the pickup and that leaves him with third down and three [Applause] so that brings us to the two-minute warning in Philly Eagles leading by eight all plays on the table here for third and three back to back carries here and he'll go down and this'll St right at the 39 yd line the Vikings call a timeouts it'll be their first and they still have two available for them as we approach the end of this [Applause] game first down now ball at the 39 yd [Applause] Line running left it's gainwell and he won't win the race to the outside that runs bottled up at the line [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] to get some positive yardage here we have an offense out of the gun they'll give it to him inside and he's going to get this up to the 45 before he's brought down now the Vikings use their third and final timeout and they'll take a moment to ponder what the Call's going to be on third down [Applause] [Applause] another carry for him and he'll pick up enough to move the chains calm cool collected from this offense love to see it no Tunnel Vision on what down it was just focused executing the play in front of him first and 10 ball set up at the 48 and they'll take a knee this is situational football at its best there's still some time left to bleed off the clock the really important thing here is you've got to bleed every second of that clock that you can second down probably going to see him kneel it again [Applause] here and they'll kneel it down nothing left to do now Kate but celebrate on one side and watch on hopelessly from the other what a hardfought effort to get to this spot now you can enjoy the victory well Brock I think we're both thinking another KNE likely coming here on third down so beneath the chorus of Fly Eagles Fly it's a win for the Eagles and Victory is going to give them a nice shot of confidence as they work through the next couple of weeks and prepare for things to counts coming up in week one that'll do it for this one with Brock kenward I'm Kate Scott the Eagles are winners as we say so long from [Music] [Applause]
