training camp out there in Oxnard what was the number one takeaway for you as training camp comes to an end um you know I think the number one takeaway is I think we all got closer we all got better I think I seen a lot of jumps from a lot of players that you're like oh we need a big year from and you always like to see those things so you're not like hesitant or you're trying to think during the season so we've seen a lot of big jumps and I think that's the most important thing a lot of those jumps of course underneath the tutelage of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer what's it been like learning under him and uh having the first de coordinator change of your career you know Zim's good cuz he got a bunch of different variations of defenses and schemes and different uh combinations between one through eight you know you know different coverages and then you know the thing is uh I think he has a great eye for what's happening and I remember uh one day you know me and him was practicing going to play calls that practice he was like I was like maybe you should call this he was like no they're going to come out in 3 by1 I was like are you sure and sure enough they came out in 3 by1 he was like you just got to understand the Tendencies and things like that so his mind is so interesting on the field is in complete pass now you're going into a part of your career where you're now considered a veteran uh has that gone by quickly to this point in the fact that you've had three successful seasons in the NFL now and now you're going into year four with a lot of expectation yeah man I I it went by too fast me and Tre just talking about I can't believe you know I'm already going into year four um coming in here in 2021 man it's a great honor it's a kind of great honor to be a veteran you know people usually don't last and people don't usually start so well but you know I think that's what make the great ones consistency and I just want to be as consistent as possible you talk about that consistency how do you get there and take that next step as already an elite Edge rusher in the NFL but a chance to to move forward oh you got to move smarter you got to learn more you got to always try to be better you always got to find different ways to get better your work ethic has to get better so each year you know I just find a ways to work harder and find something more challenging for myself you know almost in the gin's mindset just always finding new ways to find pain and when you feel it out here it's almost nothing and it's like all day long he had a 29-minute press conference one day in oxar he's a very passionate player one of the more passionate ones I've ever seen come across the league it just comes out of comes out of him on the field love to see it he's trying to keep it all harnessed in right now unleash you here in a few weeks Elijah doson on the carry for the Chargers big pickup for him and it's going to be very intriguing to see how michah Parsons is used by Mike Zimmer in this defense he's going to be all over the place you know one of the early comments that Michael Parson had was in regards to him being able to utilize his gifts and talents but you not knowing where to find him at whether you're going to he's going to be over the center whether he's going to be a linebacker whether he's going to be a defensive end and that's a problem that DeShaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns are going to have here on their hands in about two weeks he gives Mike zimber a lot of flexibility with his with his speed Chargers continue to go with Easton stick at quarterback and he's in trouble and he is dropped whole bunch of cowboys in there on that one Darius Harris the former Kansas City chief Tyrus wheat was in there everybody was in there boom mike vigil coming up there taking a running back Harris comes off on a delayed what we call Green dog green dog is when the running back goes up to make a block on one of your one of your teammates then you know there's nobody responsible for you you can come on a delayed Blitz it's called a free 99 sack there Bill C you nothing and there I've seen another guy is's a former third round draft pick of the Bengals has a history with his coaching staff he was another guy he and Darius Harris were signed after training camp started two weeks into Camp it was like the Cowboys did it the opposite way this year instead of signing their free agents back in March they waited and see what they had once training camp started and then see where injuries occur like in the case of the Sam Williams injury and then you go get you some veteran Edge rushers and we got him some linebackers too have been bothered by some injuries as well ball goes on into the end zone and we are giving you a look around the star pish the team there from the 20yd line there's movement before the snap looked like Princeton Fant but I don't believe there's any back to your point Billy that's it's a crazy stat line in terms of guys that that were not on teams last year want people to remember that following today's game obviously on Tuesday as a final cut down there going to be 37 guys that are going to be looking for opportunities now obviously Cowboys have opportunity to bring back 16 guys on the practice squad but there's going to be over 1500 players dropped in a bucket all the same day so The Scouting department has a lot of work to do in terms of scouring for their last little holes they want to feel how about that got the first down inside the 45 yd line move the chains again going to continue to give a lot of props to Trey Lance there's a lot of quarterbacks in this league who are unwilling to sit in the pocket with pressure in their face he's he's he's a man of of large stature 6'4 200 what 20 lb 30 lbs he's solid but just because you're big doesn't mean that you're willing to take a hit he has been sitting in there amongst pressure through all these different changes in the offensive line and throwing good balls and eludes the rush this time a little fake and got back to the line of scrimmage anyway that's one thing that I've been really impressed by obviously he's had a handful of turnovers today in form of interceptions but prior to to those decisions he had one they both went to the same player but one of them was one heck of a play another one was a bad decision but he has over these three preseason games collectively taken care of the ball even amongst a lot of pressure again when you're rotating through different offensive lines tend to get a lot of pressure in your face down inside the 40 yd line cam Johnson that flag down holding 79 offense 10yd penalty repeat second down it's Matt wetco interesting for the Cowboys at the the swing tackle position you talk about the injuries that occurred for the Cowboys during Camp one of them on the offensive line a couple on the offensive line with chuma edoga as well as Earl bosk who was on the practice squad last year edoga was on the 53 man roster was a swing tackle last year and the Cowboys looking for a swing tackle to Tyler gon your starter at left tackle and Terence steel at right tackle that's Cam Johnson down inside the 40 and there's oh we've got the issue I have seen once before here at AT&T Stadium for those of you that looking at your screen trying to figure out why you looking at a bunch of socks on the screen their hel their helmets were stuck in case you're wondering how hard these guys are hitting I do remember that in a regular season game and I'm trying to remember who the players were involved in it that had the helmet stuck or the face mask got stuck and offensive and defensive player they try to figure out what the heck just happened there this is helmet on Jersey oh snag that is strange that that is yeah that's that's a first for me one that I remember was helmet to helmet contact had to be pulled away Lance going deep down the right side oh almost off the hands of Deontay Bernett with Matt henkins defending that was a ball not sure we're going to have an opportunity to get a look here I'm not sure going to see Snoop Conor he does a good job of picking up the blitz you don't see it on your screen but it gave Tre Lance a little bit of time to sit back there he still got pressure in his face and stood up there strong like I just referred to and dropped a nice pass upfield shoulder outside gave his receiver an opportunity to catch a touchdown got to come down with those plays when you're calling a really good game keeping the defense guessing well he had to live up to what Dak did last year with Will Greer the quarterback and Dak called plays last year in this last preseason game so the bar was set High saying Dak got benched today for his quarterback coach got double benched you're not playing and you're not calling the plays this time there's Scott toine former quarterback at Wisconsin long time with Mike McCarthy going back to the Packer days he was he played for Mike McCarthy with the Packers and he's been on the Cowboys staff ever since McCarthy took over here in 2000 had a nice college career at Wisconsin Lance using his feet bring up a third and short good job good job he's doing a good job you see him just panning here panning panning panning where's my next man up boom now use my feet get out of there once you make the decision to run be decisive get vertical try not to go towards the sideline get as many yards as you can and protect your body you see he wanted more he felt like he could have gotten more but either way it was a positive play you can see him just growing in front of our eyes here just his his pocket presence getting more confident what
