[Music] and welcome into the ballpark happy to have you with us the show has an NL East matchup it's the Washington Nationals taking on the Miami Marlins first pitch coming your way [Applause] next just about set to go and our pitcher tonight Edward Cabrero and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout and a pitch good plate appearance there able to take the walk now this was a story we were paying attention to before the game we've seen him give up walks in the pass and it's an issue once again early on and stepping in the rookie left fielder James Wood swing and a miss and that one missed by a ton runner at first with no outs here swings through that one it's a strike out and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up C early in their career H I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting a ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further righty delivers fouls one away and now three and two [Music] got him swinging he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious andrees chaparo digging in for the Nationals swings through that one for strike two two gone but the the goahead run is at first and we're just getting started here in the top of the first runner takes off pitches low and that's a stolen base not even close I think that still kind of sets the tone not just for this game but for the entire series first inning game one so that kind of tells me they're going to be aggressive on offense and try to force the issue whenever they [Applause] can man it's second that one misses three and two now well with this many pitches thrown here in this first inning I mean you're giving the other team a really good look he's going to have to find a way to get some weak contact maybe a swing and Miss get into that Dugout and hit the reset button three balls two strikes the count and he walked him so here we go again with the walks it's been a real struggle finding the zone for him in the past now even if they get out of this Jam these walks add pressure and stress to the entire team so to a board in two outs scoreless game Jose ten getting ready to hit and another ball good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with Runners on look for him to be and a one-1 tapped in front of the plate over to First and a quick out number one9 now the number two hitter James Wood one out base is empty comes up empty that's strike two on the ground to short Lopez and that quickly two away well he didn't recognize change up earlier enough got out in front a little bit rolled over on it and beat it into the ground and now it's Luis Garcia though Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game that one misses and it's two and one it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens two down nobody on now a screamer into the Outfield and that is [Applause] that three up three down for Washington and we're still noted at zero ready to go for the last half of the inning and at the play for Miami David Hensley it's interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well so when you're looking at that position you're not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed but he does well he didn't get the call on the M the pitch before felt like he should have had him looking I think but you know that's good composure right there he found a way to come back with another good pitch to get him to swing and Miss here's the catcher and that's downstairs and [Applause] outside one down base is empty that's out to center field under it he's going through this middle of the order second time through we'll see what kind of adjustments are being made there's a swing and a drive Dives what a play and wow what a great diving catch singy stop pass says that was a near perfect route and it had to be and that's just a big part of his game I mean this guy's instincts just seem to always put him in a position to make special plays and right there he's done it again Jose tenna now at the plate that one finds the corner and the count one and [Applause] two swing and a miss struck him out pulled the string on the change up well that's always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as pitcher it really allows you to start expanding The Zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that's what leads to the strikeout and here it comes on the out good late cut for the strike out there that thing really got in on him man you know the cutter isn't really a huge swing and Miss pitch most of the time because it's not really meant to move a and Miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn't get him to offer at it next pitch is outside well they have had a hard time scoring in this one the pitcher out there on the mountain wants to keep attacking make sure that they don't get any confidence and there's Paul for pitch counts getting up there now and not saying that's the reason for this walk but this is the point in the game when every sign of wavering starts to get everyone's attention it appears Dave Martinez is ready to dive into his Bullpen as he comes out of of The Dugout to make the change DJ hers
