maybe the most baffling was a very late scratch of Christian mcaffrey on the prime time Monday night as the Niners hosted the Jets this was like right up against the wire if you're playing fantasy that's a tough one if you were loaded up with mcaffrey props well you get all that back uh what did you make and and does the NFL have an issue here with uh such a late scratch of such a high-profile offensive player whether there's gambling fantasy and all sorts of other things tied to him I mean geez he's usually a case for offensive player of the year when he's right uh and then to hear postgame that the running back Mason had a wonderful day shredding up the jet Ste he was like oh yeah they told me on Friday I was gonna start is there is is someone misspeaking are they trying to pump up Mason or are the Niners gonna be feeling a bit of heat from the league for not divulging potentially what plans they had on Friday with with an a slightly injured Christian mcaffrey I think it finds for sure incoming I mean I don't think it was necessarily A it was a slip up for Mason but I yes think what Shanahan was saying was true he was like oh yeah you know another coach might have just told him to get him hyped up for the game and I was telling him you know he might have you know a couple touches so get ready they probably knew by Friday mcaffry was leaning towards not playing so they knew I think a Fine's for sure incoming I would like to see it crack down because you know it does affect a lot of the betting and and everything and what just so just so a team could get a little bit of an edge like they're still GNA they still know the 49ers they're the Run heaviest team in the league outside of the Ravens they're going to run the ball no matter who's in the back field right and they did it really was like oh well it's Mason now we'll just uh we'll tackle him no you're gonna try to tackle mcaffry you couldn't really do that well and instead it was Mason you couldn't really do that well either like it just for sure and what do you do now SL of edges if any right what do you do now if you're the ners do you do you just run with the hot hand continue to arrest mcaffrey or if mcaffry is ready do you slot him right in I would think given that this is a Super Bowl or bust roster with what two trips to the championship game in the last few years neither resulting in a championship that it is not about Christian mcaffrey in weeks two three four five that you're measuring anything by it looks like Mason can run the ball incredibly effectively I want Christian mcaffrey 100% and I might even give him a little time after he gets 100% just to make sure he's actually at 100% if you know what I mean sure yeah no and I completely agree with that why why risk your All-Star running back a reinjury risk when it's Achilles and his calf like those we saw what happened to Kevin Durant like if you have like a little bit of tendonitis in there like it could definitely pop and then you're out for him out with him for the you know playoff run Super Bowl run that you were hoping for yeah they don't need that and it's all about uh what they look like in the New Year in 2025 when we turn the page in the regular season into the playoffs they're Super Bowl contenders for a reason and you need mcaffry to be great in that game so I think Del on the side of patience and look didn't hurt at all oh but look at this well hang on Christian mcaffrey says he's ready to go Tyson sure you can think you're ready to go your body might not agree with you well his body might agree with him his head coach might not agree with him be like I'm glad you're ready to go Christian if this is a playoff game I'm absolutely throwing you to the Wolves but guess what it's week two uh I I don't expect him to play I'm I'm not an Insider I just my feel is what do you have to gain even if he is 100% it's one less week to get injured if you play Mason who was great exactly there's no there's no like there's too much to risk if you throw him in over Mason who just had over 120 yards yeah was very good was very good they ran the ball against a very good defense or what we think is a really good defense
